He could only between the kisses punctuating each declaration of love, leaving him smiling against her lips and leaning his head into the touch of her hands. When she stood, he watched her like she was a goddess, and he was just the mere mortal allowed to look upon her, sitting up slightly, his legs shifting to leave her space without another thought. His body was just always in sync with hers, moving when she did. With her kneeling on the bed with him, he slowly slid his phone away so that he could actually devote his entire attention to her. He slowly slid his own hand to rest on her hip, watching her with a similarly lovesick affection. "Good. I don't think I ever want us to have to leave. Maybe we could just move everything out here, have your kids come and visit. Nora and Jace could come and stay too. I could work every day right here..." he teased, though it was a nice fantasy. "Which reminds me...I think I might have to pop out for a bit later," the explanation spun itself before him. "I saw a little something I was going to grab for Jace." And stop at the jewelry store he had been eyeing on one of their previous outings.

Glancing over at Augustus, the words of Alice's mother rang through her memories, a conversation she hadn't thought of for a long time. With Alice, crying into her shoulder asking her mother why they were bound for heartbreak. Her mom had told her that one day she'd find the man that she deserved, and the hurt would make it all the more beautiful. Watching the lines across Augustus' face as he smiled up at her, Alice knew - without so much as a flicker of doubt - that she'd found him. What a wonderful fairy tale she'd written for herself. "Mm... well in that case, I love you, I love you, I love you," she said, stamping each statement with a small kiss to his lips, running her hands over his sun-warmed hair. "And I will never get tired of hearing you say that." Scrunching her nose up, she pretended to be deep in thought as she stood up. "Missing my kiddos? Um, yes, just a bit." Alice moved to kneel between his legs, careful not to disturb his book as she did, and setting her drink back on the table between their beds before resting her hands against his abs, tracing them with a lovestruck grin on her face. "Missing anything enough to wish more time away from this? With you? No. I think I'd stay here forever if I could."

location: carnival somewhere

Amongst all of the controlled chaos of the carnival, Augustus squinted at his phone, slowly scrolling through his Twitter feed. His brow furrowed and he slowly shook his head, sighing quietly as he heard someone speak to him. He dragged his gaze from his phone, though he kept his finger on the phone, not quite attentive. “What was that? I apologize, can’t quite keep work away.”

Before Alice, Augustus would never have spent his time away from work and on a vacation of all things-- and if he had to take a trip, he would have taken a bustling city, somewhere where all of the hotel rooms looked identical and he would know exactly what to expect. But then she had helped him wake up-- and he enjoyed their vacation. He had left his work phone back in the room and all he had to think about for the entire afternoon was the book he held cracked open in his lap and Alice. He was already watching her with a smile when she looked over at him and he chuckled, "I'm always happy to hear it more." He turned his book over, laying it on his thigh to keep the page open, before leaning over to grab his own drink (a dark 'n stormy, two lime wedges). "But I love you too." And he did. He really, really did. Speaking of which-- he turned over his personal phone, trying to be somewhat subtle about the gesture-- no text back yet. "Missing home yet?"

alice was, quite frankly, in a daze. in fact, she was still not certain she hadn't dreamt this whole thing up. she felt doused in luxury in this fancy resort, but moreover - shrouded in love. just that morning, she'd woken up tangled in augustus' arms, the sound of exotic birds chirping outside the open window that was letting in the soft scent of the ocean on the other side of the glass. she'd always believed in heaven, she just never expected to experience it while her heart was still beating. now, laying beneath the sun as it baked her warm skin, a strawberry daiquiri in one hand because it didn't even matter what time it was - this pool had a freaking waitress that brought drinks to your pool bed?!, her head lolled over to smile at augustus. "have i told you enough times today that i love you?"
