While we had overwhelmingly interest from sensitivity readers, we were not able to find readers that had experiences with certain subjects, were not able to get feedback from a reader in time for posting, or we ran into a “conflict of interest” with matching a sensitivity reader (such as the author themselves being the only to volunteer that had experience with the disability).

As such, we decided to include these fics with the additional warning they have not been vetted by a sensitivity reader. The below fics could possibly show inaccurate portrayals as a result. July is disability pride month! In honor of the month: The Torchwood Archive will be accepting submissions for fics focused on disability for our newest fest.

Unlike in past fests, where every submission is included on our master doc at the end of the submission period, we will be doing something a little different this time.

We are looking for volunteer sensitivity readers who have first hand experience with neurodiversity, physical disabilities, and/or chronic pain that are willing to read over some of the recs we receive— so we can ensure we are rec-ing fics that are accurate and respectful in their portrayals.

This would require reading a small handful of fics of various lengths and giving us a yes/no on if it was, based on your experience with the subject matter, a fair representation of the disability within. We’re hoping to get enough sensitivity readers that each individual would only be tasked with reading a few fics at most.

Submission will be for any fic that includes topics such as neurodiversity (autism, adhd etc), physical disabilities, deaf/hard of hearing characters, mental health related conditions (ptsd, anxiety, depression etc.), and anything else that falls under the umbrella of the disabled community.
