A gijinka sketch of Bryony!
Bryony was partially blinded defending the oasis from another higher being that sought to found a kingdom around said oasis. Bryony didn't take too kindly to the intrusion, and though not strong enough to kill or even wound that Higher Being much, the intruder found them to be too obnoxious to be worth the effort, and Bryony seems bizarrely impossible to kill (its the oasis xjdnxh)
I might go with slightly lighter skin for Bryony, and any other Knells I might make in the future, cause I want to save this silhouette appearance for the vessels, although I might give them white hair, idk yet cause I haven't thought to try gijinkaing any of em. Hdbxhd
Bryony has 9 gems in total, so they're decently strong
Knells belong to the lovely @spool-knight , you should definitely go check them out

Do u have like a ranking of the characters starting from your fav
oh gosh like as in the rogues (i hope so because that's what i'm doing now)??? i like a very specific set of rogues (although it gets bigger every day lmao) but you asked for it so i will not PUNISH YOU in ways you never even thought possible by rambling on for quite some time 💚 so anyway feel free to suggest new rogues to me or try to change my mind because i listed rogues i don't care for and ones i wanna fall in love with too u-u
ok let's start off nice and easy by saying i don't like catwoman. i find her hard to read, she's cold, she's mean and i she would make me cry. i hate her. and i also hate ra's al ghul god damn.
ANYWAY ON TO THE GOOD STUFF
Number One: The Riddler
my beloved disgusting green man 💚 there hasn't been a riddler i've met yet who i wouldn't kiss on the head and then fuck hard and long like i am obsessed with every iteration of him. you want me to rank them, i can't, but please know that arkham and capullo are up at the top fighting each other (shirtless, covered in oil, maybe kissing too i dunno, maybe not just shirtless either maybe we're talking just hanging dong, bouncing around all over the place, rubbing against each other I GOT SO DISTRACTED HOLY SHIT LMAO)
Number Two: The Penguin
just something about a silly little guy with a silly little smile and a silly little tummy that does it for me. this is very specific to farrell and gotham penguins but honestly, i've just finished reading one bad day and i'd fuck him too 💜
Number Three: Scarecrow
i want him so bad you don't even know, like i want jonathan crane to read me a book, then fuckin fear toxin me and then i want scarebeast to rail me sorry but i'm also not sorry. he also just seems like such a nice man which don't even come at me
Number Four: Two Face
such a handsome, handsome, charming, well-dressed man battling his inner (outer) demons like??? what more could you really ask for??? get you a man who can do both, be super smart and cutie and also absolutely unhinged and hot
Number Five: Harley Quinn
i struggled ranking ivy and harley but ultimately she's so cute and bubbly and fun and i want her to squish my cheeks and let me touch her butt, like i don't like margot robbie something about her bugs me but i still loved birds of prey, that's the lure of harley ;-;
Number Six: Poison Ivy
yeah yeah ivy is hot everyone knows it, yes cool eco-terrorism sure thing, but ok so also while we're here, fat ivy. fat ivy fat ivy fat ivy. i would sell my fucking organs to fill my grabby little hands with her body >:(
Number Seven: Victor Zsasz
love you chihuahua man u-u mostly gotham zsasz because he radiates mischief, just a cheeky lil guy, visiting his bub and getting ice cream with his pals, and he's so funny???
Number Eight: Victor Freeze
freeze gets to be ranked on my list PURELY because he's a mad scientist, he's nice to his wife (romantic what????) and MOSTLY because of that one shot of nathan darrows in gotham with the low-rise fucking trousers like good LORD in heaven the stranglehold that has on my clit you wouldn't believe
honourable mentions of rogues i kinda fuck with but not enough to rate or rank yet:
black mask, but absolutely the fuck not ewan mcgregor
mad hatter, i want to love you
joker, i hate him but i want to fuck him sometimes it's complicated
bane
professor pyg
hugo strange
solomon grundy
rogues i want to fuck with in future:
clock king
music meister
huntress
the creeper
batmite (what the fuck is he i love him???)
jeremiah arkham
flamingo
cluemaster
calendarman
firefly
hush
rogues i know but don't give a fuck about:
killer croc
manbat
clayface
killer moth
king shark (except i wanted to fuck him in assualt on arkham)

hii I love your blogs sooo much you're really talented (I just needed to say it sorry) so straight to the point, I already made 2 requests to you and I really enjoyed your writing so I would like to make another again. As I'm clueless about what to request I'll just ask for random hcs for konoha 11, idk if it's too much but if so then you can do with Neji (I love him so much), Kakashi and Naruto. Thank you in advance and sorry anything ^^
RANDOM KONOHA 11 HEADCANONS!
FEATURING: naruto, sakura, shikamaru, ino, choji, neji, rock lee, tenten, kiba, hinata, and shino
WARNINGS: mentions alcohol, drugs, food, bugs, and the tiniest nsfw mention if you get the joke. hehe
A/N: AHHHH ANONN this seriously made my day, im so so glad you enjoy my work!! 💖
NARUTO
you know how we all have “the chair”, where we throw all of our dirty clothes onto?
yeah, imagine that, but from the seat to the fricking ceiling
its just a GINORMOUS MOUND of clothes, you wonder how he even goes through that many clothes so quickly???
definitely shoves it under his bed whenever guests come over (somehow)
holds chopsticks really weirdly. but it works.
asked tenten to put his hair into space buns to mimic his sexy jutsu and went around flirting with the village
jiraiya was so proud of him T-T
comes up with the WORST pickup lines
they’re so bad, its almost charming. almost
has gone AWOL multiple times, disappearing from everywhere, just everywhere
it scared you a little, so you searched the entire village for him
you finally found him sitting on the ledge of a cliff, gazing out at the vast sea
concerned and panicked, you cried out to ask him what was wrong
he turned to you with a crestfallen, devastated look on his face and said,
“i bought shrimp ramen instead of chicken ramen.”
you’ve never searched for him after his disappearance ever again.
SAKURA
100% makes origami shurikens and chucks them at you
they are deathly precise and deathly sharp. seriously, how are these not illegal weapons yet???
writes threatening motivational notes to herself on the mirror
“u got this!” “make sure to smack naruto today!” “ino sucks!”
her backpack would always be way too high up on her back. idk why but. it would
does her hair all nice and pretty before she goes out but once she arrives to her destination SHE KEEP. TAKING. IT OUT. and redoing it over and over and over again
like it’s impossible to make eye contact with her because she’s holding a bobby pin between her teeth while braiding her hair
her guilty pleasure would be hostess treats
ding dongs are her favorite. don’t ask me how i know, i just know.
eats the yellow starbursts just to spite naruto and all her haters
loves small lap dogs, she think’s they’re so cute and cuddly
but she especially loves chihuahuas
they’re so feisty and naruto HATES them, so of course she had to go and get one for herself
dresses the poor dog up in little bonnets and jackets and ties its tiny fuzzy hairs into pigtails
she and the chihuahua are not that much unlike <3
SHIKAMARU
this man is a god at shogi but he absolutely SUCKSSSS at cup pong.
is this an ick? idk. but he is absolute trash at this game.
it gets even worse when he’s got a couple drinks in him
tries to calculate the velocity and acceleration and angle and shit but his shot is always a good two feet off BYE 😭
just mutters an “aw, shit” before awaiting his turn again
hates checkers, loves chess
“checkers is for WUSSIES” - shikamaru nara
i said this in another post, but he is Very Good at whistling
like that’s his hidden talent
can copy any tune with the perfect pitch and rhythm
speaking of, he can do really cool tricks with his tongue
like making a four leaf clover, touching the bridge of his nose with it, flipping it upside down, you name it
he has slanted, scrawled handwriting, to the point where it’s almost illegible
wbk he cheats in school SO OFTEN. but he never gets caught. he’s not stupid, he just couldn’t care less about his classes.
thinks weed and e-cigs are stupid, cigarettes are where it’s at
you just can’t replicate the feeling of taking a drag from a cig after a long, tiring day
plus he looks hella cool while doing it B)
INO
teaches the boyz™️ how to braid their hair
like they all gather in a circle around this feisty fashionista and fail attempt to braid their hair
sakura was just fuming in the sidelines
“OI, INO-PIG, THAT’S A DUTCH BRAID, NOT A FRENCH BRAID!!”
yeah, ino 🙄
the only one that can actually do it is neji because a) this man is talented af and b) he’s got the long hairrr
ino probably envies his thick, sleek hair because hE’S a bOy
also asks everyone for their blood type and zodiac signs and tells them if they’re compatible with her or not
and definitely judges you for your sign 😣
“oh, you’re a gemini? hmm, what a shame...”
makes bouquets for her favorite people and kin assigns everyone a flower
only assigns the pretty nice ones to the people she likes (sorry sakura, you’re out of luck)
one of her favorite hobbies is crafting! she’s really good with details and small things so she loves making those miniature dollhouses and stuff
also really good at watercoloring. especially painting flowers and landscapes
also i feel like she would be really good at playing any instrument because of her skilled hands
can play a badass flute solo. period.
CHOJI
would honestly rather die than get anywhere NEAR an asparagus
he just thinks they’re so gross and bitter and NOT SALTY
he always eats his yakiniku a little bit undercooked because he’s way too impatient to wait for it to cook fully. who do you think he is??
whenever he cloud gazes with shikamaru, when asked what he thinks a cloud looks like, he just says some sort of food
“oi, choji, what does that one look like to you?”
“a... yakiniku grill... with... pineapple rings on it! ooh, and a wagyu steak right there!”
he thinks pringles are an abomination to society. where’s the crisp? where’s the grease? where’s the saltiness?!!!
asks ino to teach him how to do his hair all fancy and the two of them devote an entire day learning different hairstyles
it’s his new favorite thing to do now :D
he really likes crayons!!!!
like he’ll write with them, draw with them, color with them, do everything with them
he’s even tried to eat them. he said they tasted good.
definitely had the 128 crayon pack WITH THE BUILT-IN SHARPENER, and everyone thought he was the coolest kid in town
he ate it UP, he even scored some bbq dates with the ladies
i also feel like he loves basketball, and he has a MEAN slam dunk
like his vertical isn’t that high, but the man can REACH
he loves when people laugh at him when he challenges them to a 1v1 and then proceeds to absolutely destroy them <3
NEJI
he seems like a cucumber kind of guy.
just cucumber
like i feel like he puts it in everything; soba, salads, sandwiches, his face, yeah
it’s mellow and cool, just like him!
speaking of, i feel like he lives for spa days and facials
it just lets him be alone in his little cucumber scented world for an hour or two and he gets damn clear skin from it as well
seriously he has PERFECT skin. flawless. not a single blemish. his cheeks feel like baby butts they’re so smooth.
i feel like he’d be a god at solving rubik’s cubes, don’t ask me why
like if anyone scrambled theirs on accident they would just take it to neji and he’d solve it in the blink of an eye
CAT PERSON!!! loves the little meow meows
who are we kidding, neji basically is a cat; agile, aloof, does silly things without trying to, very cute
he just feels akin to the little fuzzballs and he thinks petting cats are extremely therapeutic. good for the soul
he is a golf man. he would take his juniors golfing and everyone thinks he’s uncool. cmon neji let them go to the skate park at least T-T
also very good at karaoke, definitely surprised everyone once he got a few drinks in him since he started serenading you
LIGHTWEIGHT!!! do not get more than one shot of alcohol in him. he will go berserk.
i also feel like he’d really love photography; not taking pictures of people, but of nature
he loves taking a quiet stroll through a pretty forest and snapping pictures of all the unique flora and fauna
it’s so serene ︶ ‿ ︶
ROCK LEE
100% milly rocks everywhere
gai got in on it too once he asked what lee was doing
“is that what all the youthful cool kids do these days!”
they also dab together. a lot
DO NOT BE SEEN WITH THESE TWO!!! you are not associated with them.
definitely is the one breakdancing in the middle of the dance circle at a high school party
he’s mad skilled at it too
headspins and windmills galore
challenged naruto to a dance-off and completely OBLITERATED him
lee then asked if naruto wanted a rematch, this time with one hand tied behind lee’s back
naruto obliged, and he STILL lost
RIP naruto and his fangirls, they all scrambled to lee afterwards T-T
i feel like his favorite subject is science
not the boring physics equations and laws and theories but the fun EXPERIMENTS
definitely has singed all of his hair off one time and he went to gai blubbering to help him grow back his precious hair
but he loves experimenting with different combinations and chemicals to get different reactions each time
created a potent love potion and carried it around with him all day one day
and it was actually working
girls were flocking to him left and right, staring at his lips and his face
he was so abashed at the sudden attention
heck, it even worked on sakura
“oi, lee-san!”
“hehe, yes, sakura-san?”
her eyes shifted downwards to his lips and his heart thumped harder
“hey... lee-san?”
“what is it?”
“you have something on your lip. we’ve been trying to tell you all day but you just winked and blew kisses at us.”
legend has it lee has still not recovered to this day.
TENTEN
has THE prettiest handwriting. and she can write SUPER fast
it’s like a superpower
like she transcribed five pages of a report in less than two minutes with perfect handwriting
naruto is so jealous.
she is also super good at origami! those diligent, accurate hands aren’t just for throwing things
taught sakura how to make shurikens but does NOT endorse any violent uses of them
she can replicate all of her weapons with paper and they can actually function, it’s so cool
made paper kunai knives one day and the wholeee village wanted to get their hands on them
i feel like she’d listen to mitski. idk i just get those vibes
LOVES BIG DOGS!! especially fluffy wuffy samoyeds
like man’s best friend?? no, GIRL’S BEST FRIEND!!
hugs and cuddles and squishes all the big dogs
she thinks small dogs are spawns of satan
sakura and her have definitely quarreled over this
but at the end of the day, all dogs are adorable fur babies, so she lets it slide :,)
KIBA
kiba always looks SO GOOD in photos you take of him, candid or not
like you could just whip out a camera and snap a photo of him at any given moment and he would look perfect
you framed a picture of him yelling at akamaru for peeing inside the house
it’s pure artwork
i feel like he tries to swagger around with his hands shoved in his pockets but it fails MISERABLY and the girls are wondering if he broke his leg or something 😭
kiba just walk normally. for the love of god please just walk normally.
he tries to slump back in his chair really low but one time he slouched way too low so he slipped off of his chair and onto the ground LMFAOOOO
he just wallowed there... in shame...
also.. he LOVES when the girls put makeup on him!!
he tries to act like he hates it. but it secretly gives him so much confidence
not to mention the girls hyping him up are a huge ego boost
okay the inside of his jacket hood is the warmest. thing. EVER!!!
seriously, no wonder this dude is so happy-go-lucky all the time, he’s living in literal heaven 24/7
it’s like you’re sleeping on a cloud inside a warm, cozy bed during a cold winter morning
10/10 would recommend letting him give you his sweatshirt when you’re chillin with a hair tie ❤️
HINATA
always smells like lavender soap. always
also has the cutest pencil pouches with little puppy faces and kawaii things
oH and she has those mini yoobi highlighters, she thinks they’re so cute (and functional!)
everyone flocks to her to try them out and marvel at the cute tiny highlighters
and they try to steal them from her but she doesn’t even stop them because she’s too timid to 😭
naruto goes BALLISTIC over them
she lets him have all of them <3
tennis girl!!! tennis girl.
all of her opponents always underestimate her because she’s so timid and shy and quiet
but she has a KILLER serve
and then she takes her opponents to the slaughterhouse with a complete shutout ;)
she’s really athletic believe it or not, she can beat most of the boys in a mile run and she has incredible endurance
i feel like she really loves velvet scrunchies
she just thinks they’re so pretty and they keep her hair soft so they’re cute and functional
also takes the PRETTIEST notes!!
color codes, dividers, headers, you name it, it’s all super readable too its insane
everyone asks her for her notes, not to study but just to appreciate the pure artwork that it is ^w^
SHINO
shino is SO easy to prank
“how do you catch an eyemaster?” *cue naruto and kiba snickering*
“eyemaster bait. that is because—”
even when everyone’s laughing their asses off, he still continues to explain his answer since he does NOT GET THE JOKE
tried his hand at writing haikus
here’s his best one so far:
“Bugs are amazing. That is because they are bugs. Bugs are very nice.” - Shino Aburame
VERY proud of it, since it took him weeks to perfect
praise it, pls
had one of those ant farms and bug-catching kits as a kid
and he would fill the kit TO THE BRIM. LIKE IT WAS HEAVY BECAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY BUGS.
he loves the little chitters of the different bugs
he had jars of different bugs all lined up on a wall shelf in his room
collects silkworms off of trees and sticks them into his pockets (no i definitely did not do this as a kid...)
HELP I FEEL LIKE he would record a timelapse of his ant farm growing and upload it to youtube with a movie maker title screen that says
“my ants”
if you enjoyed this post, likes and reblogs are much appreciated :) feel free to request here, and make sure to read the rules first! have a lovely day everyone <3

I find it hilarious that people are saying that chihuahuas could never survive on their own. my own dog is a chi mix that was a street dog before he was rescued, and I have no doubts that he did fine on his own. he’s a mighty little hunter of bugs and lizards and squirrels and he’s a sturdy little dude who stands up for himself. he’s a little survivor. people that say that chihuahuas are a special kind of fucked up have no idea what they’re talking about and have most likely never spent much time around the breed.
I was talking about this with someone else on a phone calm but basically it really rankles me because people esp on social media go on and on about how they think pariah dogs and feral dogs and primitive dogs are 'natural dogs' and somehow better because they can survive on their own, but then talk about how they don't like chihuahuas either for shitty human problems forced on impossibly tiny dogs or for pariah/feral/primitive dog holdover behaviors.
I can almost guarantee any reason to dislike a chihuahua boils down to one of those two and it's super frustrating because they're fantastic little dogs with a lot of personality and charm that still behave like they're surviving the life the breed came from in the first place.

Sneak Peek | Lalo Salamanca
Obviously people are enjoying the whole Lalo Salamanca Fanfic idea, because I received LOADS of followers since I posted the synopsis. Even though I only got two people in my ask/inbox the first time, the support I’m receiving now is a lot bigger than I originally had figured. I thought I would only get those two, maybe a few strangers along the way, but there is so many of you now. 👀
But I thought to give a sneak peek of what I’ve actually written, since I already gave you guys the plot and the vibe I wanted to produce. Much like the Jesse Pinkman story, it’s going to be taken place in the third person POV, with Lalo being the focus. I want a little Nacho Varga stuff going in there, because the drama between those two men is too tempting NOT to write about lmao.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the first few paragraphs of Diosa. Each chapter will be 3000+ words long with loads of juicy stuff.
Have fun!
WARNING: This chapter has yet to be finished and edited, so what you read here may or may not be different than the final product.
Follow me for more updates on these projects as well as see other things related to House M.D. and Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul :D
DIOSA | LALO SALAMANCA
Half an hour after Eduardo “Lalo” Salamanca crossed the border of Chihuahua into the empty desert plains of El Paso, Texas, his search for Gustavo Fring’s daughter had ended. Bottles of Modelo had piled at the edge of his hands, the light Cumbia music still played in his ears, almost an echo, beating like his heart thumping through the wind and laughter of the girls surrounding her, amplified from the adrenaline flowing in his veins like fine wine, both lifting his spirits and smashing it with their southern belle laughter, chirping and unruly. Trucks skid across the desert paths, the lights flickered above, a cheap commodity by the sheer looks alone, and the bartender, gruffy face, lean shoulders and firm shut mouth, didn't quite fit the picture he had in mind.
The hour he spent in that 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo had him dreaming of a hot, desert Mexican bar, with squeaky boards, the tumbleweeds, the leftover rot of termites and bugs festering in the pores, but he had forgotten, even in El Paso, that the Americans would slobber pretty trinkets and tourist memorabilia against the shattered walls, the fine skin of a peach, not realizing maggots had already infested the core.
The bartender noticed his staring as he popped open the top of another bottle, sliding it into his hand and Lalo took a sip, all without removing his eyes like a snake awaiting his prey. Dark, the curves of his smile and the lightness of his brows not reflecting the rest of his body. The bartender, going by the name of Scrubs, had caught onto those cues like a hawk since Lalo strolled in with those all-Mexican made leather boots, the rolled up sleeves of his pattern shirts, his strut, the tattoo edged close to his elbow. Scrubs had seen the likes of him before. Years ago, if he remembered right, when the saltiness of white hadn’t been sprinkled in the combed back hair, but the smile, the markings in his skin, even the bronze belt slapped at his waist, hadn’t changed. He knew he couldn’t quite forget a face like his, an aura like his. Menacing, yet charming, in a strange, strange way.
“Interested in something.” Scrubs has asked, making another cocktail for a different set of girls in the back. The fruit-flavored ones, with little umbrellas and garnished pineapple, the same one she had been drinking, he noticed. Lalo spotted a spec of whipped cream at the corner of her mouth, cherry-red stained lips matching the stemmed fruit settled on her napkin, her nails, hell, even her shoes were a rich scarlet. It complimented her deep sun-kissed complexion, bringing out the whiteness of her teeth, the black smoke around her eyes covered in deep, lush lashes that fluttered whenever her eyes had peered down at her camera rummaging through the flash-stained photos of her activities. The shadows curled at the opening of her back, revealing decorative moles and dimples just peeking above her jeans.
He could see her laugh, catch the light rosiness of her cheeks as she turned back towards the dancefloor with a half-empty drink in one hand, and her camera in the other. She had spotted him then, giving a polite smile before disappearing into the music with the others, but his, oh, it spelt more than just the mischief coursing through his bloodstream, it had that fire, the burn of embers leaving a mark in her memory.

Hello! I was wondering what sort of requirements pigeons would have and the whole breeds thing. (Sorry long ask) How much room would a pidge need? Like cage size and also, how would one go about excersizing them? Do you reccomend letting them fly free for the day and come back at night? Would they possibly get hurt or catch a disease/parasites out there? Are they expensive to keep? And what breeds are the most friendly/affectionate? Thank you :) 1/2
You know how some dogs have been bred to look nice but have a multitude of health problems (ie pug, chihuahua, great dane ,dachshund ect) does that happen in pigeons too? And if so, how does one know which might be genetically predisposed to getting problems later on or just generally wont have the best quality of life? 2/2
Whuf!
These are really broad questions. I’ll have to break them down and answer ne at a time, so I apologize in advance for the length of time it will take me to get this ask out.
“How much room would a pidge need? Like cage size...”
Pigeon breeds range in size from the tiny Valencian Figurita and Portuguese tumblers (vying constantly to be the worlds smallest breed) to the literally chicken sized Giant Runt.
So the amount of space required depends on the breed’s size and energy level.
Homers are about the average.
Here is an old picture from before the loft’s redesign of two of my breeding pair in their pens.
These are labrador sized dog crates, outfitted with a rabbit’s corner litter pan as a nest box and a garden stake cut to length as a perch.
Pigeons need flat perches because they are cliff nesters. Round ones like branches or dowels hurt their feet.
If yours is going to be a house pet, the cage should be what a crate is for dogs: A safe place to sleep or wait for you to get home until it learns the house rules.
Pigeons are intensely social birds that are happiest with the freedom of motion to come see you when they want, and go occupy themselves when they don’t want company.
The nice thing about pigeons is that they don;t need to be all over you all the time. They are independent enough to go do their own thing, but want to be able to come check on or spend time with you.
Which dovetails nicely into your next question: “how would one go about exercising them?”
A pigeon allowed to free range indoors will exercise themself plenty.
If you cannot let them free range the entire house, letting them out in your bedroom while you are home will be fine for most breeds.
“Do you reccomend letting them fly free for the day and come back at night?”
Absolutely not!
“Would they possibly get hurt or catch a disease/parasites out there?”
That possibly could be turned all the way up to a guarantee.
Performance breeds like racers, rollers, and tumblers are over bred to make up for the losses during training flights from inclement weather getting a bird lost, hawks snatching them out of the air, and diseases picked up from wild birds and brought back.
“Are they expensive to keep?”
After the initial cost for set up and the vet check to make sure they don’t have parasites and aren’t ill, the upkeep for a few is shockingly cheap.
You can get a lab sized kennel for $50-70. If you want an even bigger space, Great Dane kennels are about $80.
You can buy a wooden garden stake from pretty much any hardware store for about $5.
The bunny corner box is not required if you aren’t breeding. Pigeons will just as happily use a dollar store dog bowl to nest in.
My vet bill for a new bird is $70: $35 for the exotics wellness exam, $20 for a throat swab, and $15 for a fecal test.
I expected feral and lost birds to have lice, worms, parasites, and infections, but was floored when every single show bird I ever purchased from breeders did too!
You’re better off in the long run assuming something needs to be healed, cleaned out, or cleared up and just finding out from the vet as soon as they get there what needs treating.
Clear it out then, and an inside bird is pretty well set.
You can buy 50lbs of feed for $20 at Tractor supply.
And 50lbs of calcium supplements for $11.
I have 36 pigeons and 2 ringneck doves right now, so 50lbs lasts me a little over a week.
But a single bird will eat off of that for over half a year.
“And what breeds are the most friendly/affectionate?”
Most of the Exhibition breeds are pretty friendly, but from most to least kennel space, here are the ones I have enjoyed the most hands on:
Utility kings
These are the size of chickens and will need a LOT of flight time.
They are a meat breed, so they are genetically predisposed to docility, but also obesity.
They do best free roaming the house full time. It’s really hard to find a cage big enough to comfortably accommodate them.
Giant Homers
Utility kings are a squabbing breed, designed for constant production of big squabs, so they are more bird-shaped than the Giant Homer, which was bred to be eaten as an adult, and then for the aesthetic of a fat round bird.
Like the Utility King, Giant Homers are known for their mellow, gentle temperaments. But after having worked with them for a few years, it seems mostly to be that they are simply too big and heavy to evade effectively, and they know it.
Along with being prone to obesity, their sheer weight puts tremendous pressure on their feet and they can develop huge, painful calluses.
I like my mixes better than their purebred parents, because they inherited the temperament with out the bulk that causes painful or dangerous health issues.
Lahore
Named for the city in Pakistan where they were developed, the Lahore is a huge, gorgeous bird.
Their wing span more then the size of their actual body makes them difficult to cage, so it’s best they have the run of at least a bedroom.
these are laid back and mellow, but not exactly touch me birds. If one gets on your shoulder or in your lap, feel honored.
Frillbacks
For the same reason as the Lahore, Frillbacks can be difficult to pen indoors.
An individual can be happy in a Great Dane sized kennel, but frankly won’t fit comfortably into anything smaller.
These are very laid back, not especially flighty, and quite friendly. Young birds are very much cuddle bugs, and the individual pictured still comes up to me to nurse between my fingers.
No known associated health issues, but individuals with especially long muffs can stay especially still because the shaft of the feather under the skin of their feet is bigger around than the bones of their toes, making walking painful.
Show standards require large muffs, so it can be hard to find them with muffs like Bean’s here.
There is one breeder that raises hers with short muffs and entirely clean legged. I’ll be happy to link you.
Voorburg Shield Cropper
These leggy, slender birds are a pain to house because of their height, but the only breed I know of with points taken off in the show standard if they are not friendly enough to try to court the judges.
This sweet flamboyant temperament makes them an absolute delight to work with!
These are the first on the list with no known health issues associated with the breed.
Show Type Racing homer
This is an elegant exhibition breed, easy to house in the example set up we discussed at the beginning of the ask.
They are bulkier than racing homers or flying type show homers, VERY tightly feathered.
This is a wonderfully sweet tempered breed that tends not to be especially flighty.
Some of that is due to the sheer bulk of its musculature, but most of it does genuinely seem to be temperament.
Old Dutch Capuchine
These have a reputation for being docile, but I have found them to be quite flighty.
Mixes incorporating this breed, though, tend to be quite bold and out going.
Racing Homer
This is the most commonly available pigeon breed.
Bred for endurance racing, this is a very high energy bird that needs a LOT of time out of the pen to fly.
They have the strongest immune system and highest intelligence of any of the pure breeds.
though some individuals can be hair-trigger flighty, this breed is keenly intelligent and highly curious, and those individuals can learn to overcome their flightiness if their handler can learn to be aware enough of their comfort levels not to startle them with too-quick motion.
Lucerne Peak Crest
Named, like the Lahore, after the city in Switzerland where the breed was developed.
The Lucerne is an extremely temperature hardy breed.
It’s among what are called the Owl Breeds; small, compact breeds with short to mid length beaks, round faces, and large, round eyes.
Most of the owl breeds are mellow and sweet tempered, boldly curious, and not generally prone to be flighty.
Their beaks being a little short makes their nasal slit narrow and the opening to their sinuses wide, so small seeds like Millet can get stuck in the nasal cavity of some individuals.
Classic Old Frill
Oh, this is my favorite purebred.
The total pidge package: Small, friendly, shockingly beautiful, devoted parents.
There is absolutely everything to love about this wonderful cuddle bug breed.
Nun
These are a gorgeous breed, often described as being friendly because they are not smart enough to be wary.
They are unspeakably awful parents, prone to literally treating their eggs like an especially large, uncomfortable poop.
Old German Owl
Another absolute delight of a charming little Owl breed.
These are as stubborn as they are sweet tempered, which can make them a really fun challenge to train.
These are cuddle bugs, for the most part.
Chinese Owl
These are tiny little clouds that range from intensely curious and strongly treat motivated to absolute refusal to have anything to do with anything even remotely human shaped with very little in between.
Small and easy to house.
Portuguese Tumbler
This is a tiny bird, not much taller than a conure.
They are bred purely for aerial performance, so this is a SUPER high energy breed that, like the racing homer, needs a LOT of out time.
They are very bold in their friendliness, eager to check up on you and steal a cheek-smooch before zooming off to resume doing their own thing.
Unfortunately, their breed standard requires their back toe not to touch the ground. They go on tippy toes when they are happy, excited, or relaxed, which makes something like a human hand or shoulder physically difficult to balance on, and there for uncomfortable to stand on.
So trying to pet one throws their balance and stresses them severely.
Mixes with stronger feet are thrilled to have the affectionate attention of human flock mates.
Valencian Figurita
The tiniest owl breed, currently just barely winning out over the Portuguese tumbler.
It’s known for its trapezoidal head shape and upright stance.
This is a bold, plucky little bird that in my experience loves shoulders. ^v^
They are bred a little too small, though, tending to only lay one egg to a clutch, with many dying in the shell with out space for the peep to develop.
Their hatchlings are often given to ringneck doves to foster.
“You know how some dogs have been bred to look nice but have a multitude of health problems (ie pug, chihuahua, great dane ,dachshund ect) does that happen in pigeons too?”
Oh, god, you would not believe the number of pigeon breeds that aren’t even bird shaped!
There are nearly twice as many severely distorted breeds as fit, bird shaped ones.
Check the Modern art Pigeons tag.
“And if so, how does one know which might be genetically predisposed to getting problems later on or just generally wont have the best quality of life?”
Pippin is a feral pigeon.
This is about the closest you can get to the base line natural shape of the species Columba livia.
The more pigeon-shaped the breed, the better.
Ferals are, genetically, a blend of the homers, rollers, and tumblers that survived getting lost on training tosses or during performances.
Here is Wilson, another purebred Racing homer.
Because this breed is designed to fly marathons literally hundreds of miles, it’s a lot more compact and muscular than Ferals and genuinely wild Rock Doves, who only need to fly as far as it takes to find enough to eat in a day.
The farther off this base line you go, the less physically fit the breed.
The American Fantail is an especially heinous train wreck.
Its chest is out thrust over its head, its neck curves parallel to its spine, and its head is propped up by its own tail feathers.
youtube
This pitiful creature is not just displaying.
youtube
Their skeleton is permanently stuck in that shape.
Parlor rollers are bred with a combination of neuromuscular defects that throw their balance when ever they flap their wings, sending them into a panic as they flail to right themselves.
youtube
Parlor Tumblers have a less severe version of the same group of deformities:
youtube
We talked about the Old dutch Capuchine above.
Jacobins are the extreme “modern” version of the ODC.
You could trim their feathers to clear their field of vision
But their very long necks tend to collapse into their shoulders with age.
The male Barb’s huge, wrinkled wattle and ceres block off their nasal passages and deform the eyelids so that they may not be able to fully close.
Cocks usually go blind with in three years, but that doesn’t matter to their breeders because their peak show and reproductive performance is between their first and second year of age.
The Short Faced Budapest’s show standard requires its eyes to telescope as much as possible.
Its eyes are literally bigger than its skull, and don;t fit in their sockets.
The eye lid is all that holds them in.
And some can’t fully close their eyes.
This is the Oriental Frill, also called the Modern Frill.
they have literally no beak.
Turbits have a longer head, but a nearly inverted beak.
These birds can;t feed their own young, and struggle to preen themselves.
Aaaand here is the Egyptian Moraslat
This is a very typical attitude among breeders of these birds with extreme body shapes.
I also have a series on weird, but physically sound breeds, and would be happy to go more into those in another ask.

10 Great Apartment Dogs
Are you thinking about adopting a brand new puppy? It can be difficult making a decision on which type to get when all of their faces are just so darn cute! Whether you’re living in an apartment complex now or are about to move, you know you at least want to learn more about dogs that are best suited for apartments. We thought you might. That’s why we compiled this list of the most apartment friendly dogs for your consideration and although we’ve narrowed it down to the top ten, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of great pups out there! Use this list as a jumping off point to get you going in the right direction.
1. Pug
This snorting, wrinkly-faced little character with a cinnamon-roll tail is one of my favorite toy dog breeds. He’ll grow to be about 18 lbs (unless you over feed him and make him a big fatty!), follow you around the house, and want to sleep in bed with you. If you can’t stand snoring, then the pug is not your dog. He’ll wheeze louder than your drunken grandpa, who’s passed out in front of the TV. And his beauty is unique. But how can you stare into his cartoon-like eyes and feel anything but love? Unfortunately, due to those bug eyes, pugs are prone to eye injuries. But they’re easy going and affectionate, getting along well with other dogs and with cats too. So if your girlfriend’s high-maintenance Siamese has to stay, you won’t worry about your pug making a meal out of it (he might wrestle with it instead, so let’s hope the cat’s a fighter!).
Take your pug on daily walks and everyone in the neighborhood will admire his cute wiggle as he struts around town. Just be careful not to over exert him. Because of their brachiocephalic (fancy way of saying flat-nosed) faces, pugs can have breathing issues, especially in warm weather. So when you’re outdoors, watch your pug carefully for signs of overheating.
Grooming level required: High. This guy needs you to clean out his facial wrinkles on a daily basis to remove dirt and debris, and also requires daily brushing. Pugs shed a lot, so invest in a decent vacuum cleaner!
Noise level: Medium. Pugs aren’t going to bark without good reason.
Kid friendliness: High. If trained well, pugs enjoy children!
Exercise: Low. Don’t overwork or overheat this little sausage!
2. Bichon Frise
Your Bichon Frise will get along well with other animals, should you already own any. His energy level is high, so be sure to take him for walks in the park and to play indoor games as well. Except scrabble. He’s intelligent, but c’mon, he’s still a dog. If left alone for long periods of time, the Bichon suffers from separation anxiety. Workaholics who spend all day and night at the office will break his fluffy little heart!
Grooming level required: Low. The Bichon’s coat barely sheds, so this breed is good for people with allergies. Bichons do need daily brushing to keep their fur from matting. Also, a monthly bath is required to keep your dog’s coat white.
Noise Level: Low. He’s not prone to yippiness like the poor excuse for a dog that belongs to that crotchety old lady down the hall.
Kid friendliness: Medium. Bichons are good with children, but puppies should be handled by kids only under adult supervision.
Exercise: High. Get your Bichon out of the house regularly for a game of fetch, and practice teaching him tricks at home.
3. Chihuahua
I know what you’re thinking. Yo quiero Taco Bell. Three crunchy tacos supreme, please! But there’s a reason that the adorable Chihuahua is the star of commercials and Hollywood movies: she’s got that it factor! This little baby weighs in at 2-6 lbs, so she can definitely fit in your Fendi handbag. But you don’t need to be a reality show has-been like Paris Hilton to walk around toting one of these babies. Chihuahua’s can be bigger divas than J-Lo if overindulged, so remind your doggie who’s the boss. That being said, they’re affectionate, intelligent and fast learners.
Your Chihuahua’s larger-than-life personality means she’s loud and talkative. Forgetting her size, she’ll probably challenge the Doberman down the block to a fight, so be careful when you’re on walks together. This go-anywhere companion needs a loving owner to take care of her for the next eighteen years. If that scares the bejesus out of your commitment-phobic self, this dog is not for you!
Grooming level required: Low. You only need to brush once a week.
Noise level: Medium to high. These dogs like to talk!
Kid friendliness: Low. It’s too dangerous to have these tiny dogs around children under the age of eight, because your Chihuahua might get injured. But do socialize her around kids.
Exercise: High. Chihuahuas need 20-30 minutes of daily exercise, and are eager to keep playing, so make sure your dog doesn’t wear herself out.
4. Poodle
There’s a reason there are so many -oodle bred dogs (goldendoodle, labradoodle, schnoodle, etc)! Poodles are one of the best-behaved and even-mannered breeds you can own. They’re also hypoallergenic so people with allergies won’t have to worry! The poodle is the second most intelligent dog breed which makes them incredibly skillful and quick learners . Although they are slightly larger in size, they’re also skinny so tend to fall under most apartment weight limits. They are relatively quiet, don’t have large amounts of energy, and tend to get along well with other dogs and humans. Basically, Poodles are every apartment accommodating personality trait rolled up into the perfect pup!
Noise level: Low. You’re more likely to hear your neighbors getting rowdy during a game of Pictionary than hear your Poodle make a racket.
Kid friendliness: High. Poodles love kids. Simple as that.
Exercise: Medium. Poodles do have a good amount of energy but that doesn’t mean they need to be running around in open spaces all the time. Exercising their minds with thinking games and training inside your apartment work just as well!
5. Shiba Inu
This member of Japan’s six native dog breeds is known for her fun personality, pointy ears and agility. Your friends might point out that your curly-tailed Shiba resembles a fox and is like a Ninja Warrior! Weighing in at 20 lbs, she’s nimble, quick, keen and alert. The Shiba is fiercely independent, which is why it’s important to socialize her early with other dogs. This smarty-pants may think she knows what’s best, so look for a trainer who understands this breed’s unique mindset.
Another thing- your Shiba doesn’t like to share her toys. She’ll guard her belongings with her teeth bared. Be sure to give your Shiba Inu enough exercise with a neighborhood walk or jog. But if you take her off leash, be careful-she’ll chase cats (if you live in an urban neighborhood like mine) or squirrels, and could potentially be aggressive with other dogs. If you don’t appreciate her firecracker personality, the Shiba might not be for you. But give her love and she’ll love you right back, charming you with her spunk and loyalty.
Grooming level required: Low, though she’ll shed heavily twice a year. Ready to splurge on that Dyson vacuum yet?
Noise level: Medium. She shouldn’t bark unless something suspicious is going on, or another dog is making her feel threatened.
Kid friendliness: Medium. The Shiba Inu will be friendly towards children as long as they treat her with kindness and respect. No tail pulling!
Exercise: Medium. Getting outside is important for this breed. Make sure she gets a good daily workout.
6. Chinese Crested
Some refer to the Chinese Crested as the worlds ugliest dog? But if you’re sick, your Chinese Crested will lie in bed with you for hours. This 12 lb sack of love will fall in love with you, make you her world, and never leave your side. If you’ve just gone through a soul-crushing breakup, the Chinese Crested will nurse your blackened heart back to health.
This heat-loving canine can lounge in the sun like a lizard, so if you live in the Arizona desert, a Chinese Crested is for you. However, he has no tolerance for cold, and can’t be exposed to it as a means of ‘toughening up.’ Please don’t torture your dog, let him be comfortable!
Like that time you sent your ex-boyfriend two hundred text messages, your Crested also suffers from separation anxiety. Be careful, this David Blaine-esque dog can escape from almost any enclosure, and will dig, bark and climb if he’s freaked out. But he’ll play games, cuddle affectionately, and love your family with all his hairless little heart.
Grooming level required: Medium. Even though he’s hairless, the hair he does have needs to be trimmed. Also, he needs to be bathed regularly.
Noise level: High. Yep, this guy’s a talker. He’ll bark to protect his home, and sometimes he’ll sing!
Kid friendliness: Medium: They do well with kids, but small children could be a danger to the dog because he’s so tiny.
Exercise: Low. Chinese Crested dogs will tire out after about 15-20 minutes of play time and want to go back to their den. But they can jump over low fences, so be careful not to let them escape!
7. Boston Terrier
This tuxedo-wearing gentleman is a dapper and affectionate dog. The only problem? He might be too smart for his own good. 10-25 lbs of stubbornness in a handsome black and white coat, Boston Terriers can be hyperactive at times. But they’re so incredibly cute, all bad behavior is forgiven. Just look at those big round eyes! Not to say that Boston’s are all trouble. Like Matt Damon’s character in Good Will Hunting, they’re fighters on the outside, but loving and affectionate at home. Because they’re in the same class of dogs as pugs (brachycephalic), these guys are prone to over heating. Their funny antics will amuse all your friends, as will their snorting, drooling and flatulence. That’s right- don’t get a Boston Terrier if fart jokes make you uncomfortable. These dogs are usually quiet, but like a true Bostonian, they’ll get scrappy if another male invades their territory. How about them apples?
Grooming level required: Medium. Brush your Boston weekly and wash his face everyday, to check his eyes for redness or irritation. Like the pug, these big-eyed dogs are prone to eye problems.
Noise level: Low, except when another male is on his turf.
Kid friendliness: High. Bostons love children!
Exercise: Medium. These dogs are fairly inactive indoors. He’ll take a walk with you, and he loves to play, but then he’ll tire out and take a nap.
8. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
You fell in love with her as Elizabeth Taylor, Charlotte’s dog in Sex and the City. (If you’re a chick, then like me, you’ve probably seen every episode more than once). The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is intelligent, sweet and tail-waggingly cute. Cavaliers are attached to their owners and like to be spoiled. They shouldn’t be left alone for long, so part-time workers or stay-at-home moms make good owners. Cavaliers are too friendly to become good guard dogs. Please don’t rely on your girl as an alarm system! After barking at an intruder, she’ll probably try to lick his face off. At 13-18 pounds, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the perfect size for apartment dwellers. Cavaliers enjoy a good game of chase; therefore, cats should be ready to play tag. But your parakeet will get eaten…seriously. So yeah, don’t own a bird. You can’t take the hunting instinct out of this English lady!
Grooming level required: Medium-High. Brush their coat 3-4 times a week and bathe the dog when necessary.
Noise level: Low. The Cavalier might bark when someone comes to the door, or she’ll just ignore it and keep quiet.
Kid friendliness: High. She’ll sit on your daughter’s lap while watching Spongebob.
Exercise: Medium. Take her out for walks, but don’t let her off the leash. This poor little princess has no street smarts whatsoever, and might run in front of a car.
9. English Bulldog
There’s a reason the English Bulldog has been chosen as a mascot for so many universities and sports teams. The breed is known for being tough and tenacious, but personally I think the bulldog’s squashy face is too adorable to be intimidating. I mean, look at that broad head and those stubby legs, that funny under bite and all those wrinkles! The laziest of dogs, this 40-50 lb guy is perfect if you want someone to cuddle with. Though they’re courageous and protective of their families, bulldogs are also friendly and playful. You might think it’s cute when your bulldog snores (not so cute when he farts), but beware of the many respiratory problems they’re prone to. You better start pumping some iron at the gym because you’ll need to be able to lift this fatty when it’s time to take him to the vet! Your bulldog will sleep until it’s time to eat again (just like your good-for-nothing ex-husband), so don’t expect a lot of activity from him. Though he loves children, you won’t find your bulldog playing fetch at the family barbecue. He’ll be sitting next to you, waiting for his hamburger patty.
Grooming level required: Medium. Brush his coat once a week and clean the wrinkles of his face every day with a damp cloth. He’s an average shedder: brushing more than once a week will reduce the amount of hair.
Noise level: Low. They are too lazy to bark. In fact, he’s probably asleep.
Kid friendliness: Very high. This tolerant sweetheart will let your toddler torment him.
Exercise: Low. He won’t want to go on a walk, but you need to take him anyway. Once a day is fine. But keep him away from swimming pools and hot tubs. He can’t swim!
10. Bitsa
What’s a Bitsa you ask? A bitsa this and a bitsa that! In other words, a mixed breed, a mutt, a few little slices of heaven all mixed into one great dog. Mixed breeds are great because they tend to not have any super dominant traits. Since they’re a mix of different breeds, their personality traits tend to blend together into a much more mellow mutt. A mellow temperament helps this dog breed adjust to a variety of households and living conditions more easily. Bitsa’s are also statistically proven to be healthier than purebreds, so if you’re spending extra on pet rent or a deposit, you’re more likely spending less at the vet. Lastly, because they are a combination of breeds, you’re more likely to be allowed to have say a pitbull-mix than, unfortunately, if your dog is predominately pitbull.
Noise level, kid friendliness, and exercise all depend on the specific dog you have but can be highly affected by the way they are raised!

Embellished: Ep. 7
“Alright Sertia, what’s the plan?”
“Main I don’t know! I’d tell you too be yourself, but you’re definitely thinking about this too much for that advice to be useful. Look, just wing it, play it by ear. I’m sure you’ll be fine as long as you keep your cool and don’t say anything stupid.”
“Gotcha, thanks.”
• • •
Salvador had been sitting in bio for the past hour in the dark, listening to the teacher’s boring lecture. All she ever did was sit there and go through powerpoint presentations and have her students take notes.
Salvador sat in the back at one of the lab tables, primarily because it was in the back near the window and it had a little fish tank on it. The fish tank contained a few guppies and some crabs, who all had names given to them by Salvador and his friends.
He found it hard to pay attention to the class sometimes, because his friends, Felix, Lucas, and Damian. Felix was a very close friend of Salvador’s, an Irish boy almost a year older than him. He was pudgy, and had always reminded Salvador of Samwise Gamgee. He had a hairy face and legs, which was known by his friends because he always wore basketball shorts. Lucas was a sporty boy, who played in futból clubs outside of the school. He was very cold, yet always funny. He simply had little to no regards for others, and even if he did, he never showed it. He had a quality about him that made everything he did inexplicably hilarious to Salvador. Damian had been present in Salvador’s groups of friends for years, but they had never become that close. He was more someone that Salvador could kinda idly laugh at, but not usually talk to. He was a known troublemaker, and Salvador would never, but he could see that deep down, Damian was a good kid who only wanted to feel the validation of his peers.
With all of his things packed and ready for home, Salvador put on his backpack, and looked at Soorja from his table in the back. She sat pretty much dead center of the three rows of tables in the front, only a bit to the right. As she made her way to the door, Salvador realized that this was his opportunity to walk out with her and get closer to her.
He quickened his pace a bit, and caught up with her right as she got out of the doorway.
“hey,” he said, coming up behind her.
She turned her head to him, as if surprised to see him.
“Oh hey, what’s up?”
“Oh nothing, I was just behind you and decided to say hi.”
“oh, well then hi,” she said, with a smile that melted his heart and shattered all the emotional armor he had forged over the years.
“So uh, where are you off to then?”
“Well, Salvador, I’m off to the Metro, where are you off to?”
“The bus, but I’m sure I could spare a moment to walk with you. How far is it?”
“Too far, trust me, you’d miss the bus. I can get home safely myself, thank you very much. I may be a princess, but I don’t need a knight in shining armor.”
Yeah, you certainly are a princess, and I’d give anything to be your knight. Though he.
“Well alright then, you get safely then, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Until then, ‘Prince Charming’”
She smiled at him again, with the same power that she had just moments before. Salvador just stood there looking at her, completely dumbfounded. Had she meant it? No, the undertones of sarcasm were too strong. She was just joshing me. Salvador realized that he was just standing there bug-eyed, so he shook his head to snap out of it, smiled at her, and waved. She was standing a bit in front of him, half turned and looking at him smiling. Proud of her work, she smiled at him and turned, leaving the boy lovestruck for the first time in his life.
• • •
That night, as Salvador slowly worked his way through his math homework, his phone lit up with a message. It was from Soorja. Salvador’s heart skipped a beat. All day her had been thinking about her, but he was too afraid to message her.
The message was nothing special, she had just slid into his DMs with a meme about a dog. It was a cute dog, a good dog, so that’s what Salvador said about it.
“You know normally I despise being interrupted in my work, but this dog is worth it.”
“Oh so you like animals then?”
“Like them? I love them! Hell, I have a dog myself. HIs name’s Fenrir.”
“Fenrir... what a cool name.”
Salvador was pleased that she was showing interest, so he decided to ride the wave as far as he could.
“Yeah, he’s a 9-year-old Chihuahua/Daschund mix.”
“Oh that sounds adorable! Can I see him?”
Salvado called his dog over to him, and sent a picture of the lad to Soorja. He retook the photo at least eighteen times, because of something in the background that he was overthinking. As expected, she reacted with lots of praise for Fenrir’s adorability. Salvador realized that there was nowhere left to go with Fenrir, so he inquired as to whether Soorja had any pets.
“No, but I’ve always wanted one. It’s just that my parents won’t let me.”
“Not even a fish or something?”
“No. But besides, a fish isn’t the same as a dog.”
“Oh well that sucks.”
“I’ve noticed.”
Most people, when texting their crush, expect an answer immediately, and believe that they also have to answer within seconds of receiving a text. Although he would have done this normally, Salvador was too busy trying to do his math homework to be able to think too hard about his dying conversation with Soorja.
After about a minute and a half had passed, Salvador had the sudden realization that the conversation had died. He wasn’t sure if he had to say goodbye or something, so he came up with a plan that would either revive the conversation or give him the opportunity to say goodnight.
“So whatcha doin’,” was his genius solution.
“ah yes, a brilliant one-liner to rekindle the flame,”
“y’know Soorja, you see right through me.”
“Of course I do. Nonetheless, I’m working on that Spanish project from before”
“Oh the earthquake one?”
“that’s right.”
“Well I speak Spanish, maybe I can help you out. What’s this project of yours about?”
“Mostly vocabulary and stuff. Do you have any idea how to say ‘mall’?”
“oh for sure, that’s ‘centro comercial’”
“oh duh, thanks”
“yeah for sure”
There was a short pause as Salvador closed his books and prepared his backpack for the next day of school. Once he was finished. he messaged her once more.
“Hey man, it’s already ten o’clock, you should go to bed”
“ok DAD”
“um... what?”
“well cause that’s just such a dad thing to say.”
“fair enough, but I am honestly quite tired, and you should be too. If you need anymore help with Spanish, feel free to hit me up anytime, goodnight.”
“thanks, and I will. goodnight!”
Salvador sat there at his desk for a good fifteen seconds, considering how her face must’ve looked during their conversation. He noticed she was very sarcastic, but not in a bad way; in a cheerful, joking, light-hearted kind of way. The kind of sarcasm that requires finger guns, playful winks, stuck-out tongues, and happiness. He thought about that as he prepared for bed, and the more he thought about it, the more he liked it. She was already in the process of stealing his heart, and he didn’t even know that much about her. What a wild thought. He thought to himself as he got under the sheets. But I still hope it works out.

Disney Plus UK movies and shows revealed: here’s the full list at launch
Home
News
The full list of Disney Plus UK films and shows coming in time for launch has been released, and you’re in for a treat. Among the 500 films, 350 shows and 600+ episodes of The Simpsons, you’ve got close to a complete set of Marvel movies and every Star Wars film minus The Rise of Skywalker (which is coming at a later date, Disney UK confirms).
Below, we’ve reproduced the full list, which comes courtesy of Disney and is noted as being correct at the time of issue. Other highlights on Disney Plus UK at launch include James Cameron’s Avatar, the Home Alone trilogy, a payload of Pixar movies and even all of Fox’s X-Men movies (minus more mature films like Logan and Deadpool). You’ve also got 2019’s live-action Aladdin and The Lion King movies to look forward to.
If you like what you see, you can sign up to Disney Plus for a year at just £49.99, which is £10 off when you pre-order before the March 24 release date.
You’d be hard-pushed to find many gaps in there, and you’ve got a lot of TV to get through. Shows like Agent Carter and The Runaways are well worth checking out on the Marvel side, even if their canonical status is a bit dubious.
The full list is gigantic, and it comes direct from Disney, so you’ll have to forgive the odd formatting of some of the content on here. Have a look, then, at the full list of films and shows coming to Disney Plus UK on March 24…

What To Remember When You Bring A Dog Home
(and I don’t mean from the bar… *ba dum tss*)
Is it just the nature of summer or something? My friends seem to be acting with a hive mind lately. While I’m busy sanding things, digging in the dirt, doing demo in the bathroom (yay!), and working on a half dozen other things not yet ready to be revealed (some of it is coming next week, and stay tuned for a furniture DIY on July 1st!), all of them have collectively started adopting fur-babies.
One found a litter under her garden shed. One just adopted a 2-year-old chihuahua mix. One couple keeps Snapchatting me updates of their new puppy (believe me, that’s not a complaint!). Basically, my social media feed is full of furry new additions and the inevitable lessons that come with budding pet parentage. And as a veteran owner of a wild and crazy, roof-sitting, fence-jumping, car-ride-loving dog of my own, I can’t help but be amused by witnessing each of these roller coaster rides take place.
Do they really know what they’re in for?
While I’m not really familiar with what to do with a cat (I never owned one as a kid, and I’ve only ever had dogs as an adult), I figured that with so many people I know bringing home a new dog, it would be a good time to share my own experience since I first brought Charlie home. Looking back, there were plenty of things I expected (taking her out for walks, training, buying toys and food), but there were also things I wish I had known or wish someone had told me. Plus… I kind of promised a few of them I’d write these posts just for them, so I’m trying to make good on that!
So, I’m declaring this my own personal Pet Week (the official National Pet Week was actually in May, so this is unrelated), with two back-to-back posts all about:
what to expect/remember when you bring a new pup home (Part One — that’s this post) and
what products I’ve learned about over the years that have made life with Charlie far easier (Part Two)!
With any luck, my friends will find something helpful in these notes, and you can pass this along to any friends of yours who have caught the new-puppy-bug, too!
Charlie’s first snowfall
Oh, and for the sake of simplicity, I should probably just make some kind of banner with one of those cheesy spokesperson-sounding voices, like
“Sarah’s Pet Week is brought to you by Swiffer! Swiffer: because when you clean up after your pet this often, you’re going to be using us all the time.”
Sorry, I’m being goofy today as I write… but the gist is that online advertising rules require me to disclose any material relationships I currently have if I mention their products in a post, and because we’re talking about pet hair and paw prints, I’m going to wind up mentioning Swiffer anyway because I use them all the time for cleaning up after Charlie, so I’m going to just declare that these posts are sponsored by them even though I’m mostly just sharing pictures of puppies… k?
Oh, and also: I’m not a vet, nor have I ever studied animals as a profession. This is not meant to be professional medical advice, just general tips to my friends who are freaking out right now (oh, blogging disclaimers are so fun these days, aren’t they??). Alrighty, let’s get on with it! *Affiliate links may be used below*

Ten Things to Remember When Bringing Your New Pup Home
1. Expect them to be tired… at first. Don’t think that just because they were all sweet and snuggly in the adoption center that this is any indication of their true personality or energy level. Chances are, they got picked up and cuddled by a lot of people all day out of sheer cuteness (that’s one of the reasons you adopted them, after all), and that would tire out anyone. Or maybe they’ve just been fixed and are still drugged up. Once they get their energy back, there will be moments of pure energy that will really have you confused on whether or not someone replaced your little fluff with a hellion bent on destroying your sanity and sleep. The secret: get them tired again with lots of play time. Or pawn them off temporarily on friends and family who want to cuddle up with your new pet.
What she was like at Atlanta Humane Society…
What she was like 24 hours after getting her home…
2. They might come home with a cold. Putting a bunch of dogs together in a single spot like an adoption place or boarding facility, even if they’ve all been vaccinated, might lead your pup to get sick. Watch after them for a little while and definitely take them to the vet if they show any signs of distress (it could be something as simple as allergies or anxiety of adjusting to a new place, or it could be more serious, like kennel cough or canine influenza). I distinctly remember holding Charlie as I signed her in at her first vet visit, and she sneezed a huge green bubble right on her face. She looked pretty embarrassed and pitiful, but we went home with some antibiotics after that!
3. You might have a few regrets… or a lot of them. The first night after bringing Charlie home, I was so proud of myself. She made it through the night with zero accidents and we both slept sound. But as soon as I put that little rat on the floor, she looked me dead in the eye and peed a giant puddle on my carpet. The next few days were a lot of adjusting to how often puppies need to go outside (setting alarms for the middle of the night, etc.), her first bath, and a lot of scrubbing nightmare fuel out of my carpet (it wasn’t always the same, er, type, ifyouknowwhatimsaying). There were also a few tears, because I was just about to start grad school and realized I probably made a horrible mistake out of loneliness (if you remember, this was also just after a long-term relationship had ended and the emptiness of my house was real without his dog around). Second guessing your choice to adopt is totally normal. It usually fades once they let you get some sleep and they survive their first full day without needing a bath. Charlie and I ultimately got through it, and I’m so glad we did.
4. Take as many videos as you can. Taking pictures will come naturally, but try to get video of them if they’re still a puppy. I didn’t take enough of Charlie, and I regret that.

5. They’re surprisingly like humans… but also not. Within the first few weeks, there will be more than one moment where you are in awe of how clever your dog is and how much personality they hold in their little body. Their facial expressions. Their reactions. When they sneeze or yawn. It doesn’t take long for you to realize that they simply see the world differently than you, and they’ll use that to their advantage. Places you’re sure you’ve made impenetrable? They’ll just squeeze right by it:
It’s the cutest thing… until you smell poop in an unexpected place.
And did you know they can use medications that were developed for people? While this of course comes with a HUGE disclaimer that you need to check with your vet first, some OTC medications such as Benadryl, Neosporin, Pepcid AC, Pepto Bismol, and others have been ok’d in some situations for treating your dog’s ailments. Charlie even has a prescription for Xanax for when she gets her nails clipped!
But again: they are not babies. It’s going to be fun to baby them, to enjoy their cuteness, and to laugh when they have personalities and attitudes like humans. And it’s easy to assume when something is safe for you, then it’s safe for your dog. During those first few days in a new house, they are going to push the boundaries like crazy and familiarize themselves with their environment mouth first. We’ve all heard about chocolate, but other unexpected foods (like avocado, grapes, garlic, onions, etc.) are a big no-no to feed them. There are household plants they might eat and household cleaners sprayed on surfaces that they might lick. It is so easy to overlook these things! You’ll need to quickly become familiar with what’s harmful to them before you good-intention your way to a sick pup. And don’t forget about trash cans in easy access like the bathroom (a solid recipe for “trash gut”). Here is an excellent list. Learn it.
6. Speaking of cleaners… have a lot of those (safe ones) around, too. I had to use a TON of cleaning products when Charlie first moved in. Lots of them aren’t healthy for pets, so be sure to check the labels. Now that she’s older, I don’t have as many messes, but I still use a vacuum for her tumbleweeds of fur and Swiffer’s Wet Jet for cleaning up paw prints and drool spots (particularly around her water dish and food stand). P.S. If you’re planning on getting a gift for a friend who just got a dog, they will all be very happy to get a box of Swiffer products (I actually gave some to my sister and my parents and others). Most of my friends have been really excited when I offer to gift them a box!
7. They’re definitely going to chew or destroy something you liked a lot. Maybe it was your new running shoes. Maybe it was your favorite pair of sexy-but-not-uncomfortable panties. Maybe it was the wooden bun foot you were using for a DIY project (yes, that happened). But no matter what, you’re going to be forgetful that you have a new member of the family, and they are going to get into something you didn’t anticipate. And you will mourn the loss of that item. And then, surprise! It will happen again. Eventually, you’ll stop being a dumbass and learn to not leave valuables out for the dog to get a hold of (or you won’t, and you’ll continue to underestimate the cleverness of your dog). Hide your stuff, if not for your wallet, but for the fact that they can eat something that will make them sick or create a blockage… which means you’re basically spending huge chunks of cash on replacements and vet bills.
8. Never underestimate the power of an empty water bottle and a cardboard box. Dogs like to chew. They like things that squeak and make crinkle noises. And to my surprise, a plain, empty water bottle would work like a charm.
They also like to shred, so as long as they aren’t eating the items (which could cause an obstruction), for me, a plain box or stick was often easier to pick up after than the cheap fluff they sometimes put into dog toys (that stuff seems to multiply). Charlie couldn’t get enough of either as a puppy, and it saved me from a lot of eaten shoes.
Charlie loved to get her paws on paint sticks, too. I have to hide them out of sight, now!
9. You’re going to worry a lot. The first few days are really hard, especially if you work in an office during the day. Are they upset? Are they eating ok? Are they getting enough sleep? Do they have fleas? Did you get the right food? Why is their poop runny this time? Is *google item they just ate* toxic? You will feel a lot of strong feelings about all sorts of things that never occurred to you before. You’ll feel guilty just for being at work when your pup is at home missing you. Your mom will send you text messages when you’re traveling that your dog is staring at the door, waiting for you to come home. As much as people like to joke (and even some get offended, but whatever) and liken a puppy to a human baby, this is often a learning experience for how to care for another living thing for the first time. They are entirely dependent on your care, and it’s scary at first. You’ll talk about it to everyone you know.
10. It will pass. As with most adjustments, you’ll eventually get used to your pet’s limitations and needs. You’ll get used to making weekend plans that include blocks of time to come home to your pooch. You’ll have a lot of fun with it, and there is nothing quite like the pure joy you see on their faces when you come home and they’ve missed you with their whole body. Charlie is a part of the family, and very few decisions in this house go without factoring her in (whether the fabric on the chair is Charlie-proof, how fast I fix the A/C if it gets too hot, so many things!). You will worry a lot, but you’ll be fine.
Take deep breaths. And welcome to the Puppyhood. Enjoy it!

Enjoy it!
