HISTORY !

charley is originally born as jaiyi to a family that had recently immigrated over from hong kong. they are given most of what they wanted by their family and have an older sibling that would do anything for them. they are a quiet child, choosing to sit and follow their father around as he does his daily tasks or annoy their older sibling for attention.

the first big change in charley's life comes when they start school and people begin to make fun of them for their first name. the teachers do nothing and over christmas break, jaiyi becomes charlotte. it's easier to make friends this way, even if some of their peers still make fun of other things from time to time.

charley finds a drum set at a yard sale and begs their parents for it. they eventually agree and soon charley is happily filling up the silence in the zhao household with noise. it makes them happier than they care to admit and neither parent can be too angry with charley.

school continues to become an issue for charley, who quickly realizes they aren't like most of the girls in their classes. especially as they all get older and the girls drift towards pretty dresses and make up. charley barely makes it through high school but graduation feels like freedom.

charley meets someone who helps them through their gender issues and introduces them to being genderfluid or not having to chose just one gender at all. it opens their owns and soon charley is asking for everyone to call them by they/them pronouns. it takes a while, especially their parents. but chelsea is there to help push them in the right direction.

charley sees a flyer for a band looking for a drummer and doesn't look back. electric touch gives them friends that they never would have met otherwise and they are continually grateful for everything the band has given them. they eventually get an apartment with theo, knowing that it's better to room with someone they like rather than risk a random roommate.

but the idea of being famous scares charley, they don't want the attention on them or the media to start picking away at their band. it's enough to make charley want to drop out of the band completely, to give up on this dream of being in a band.

the one that helped them through their gender struggle: this person is obviously not cis and helped charley when they needed it the most by explaining everything and slowly helping them through everything. a gender mentor if you will. best friends: charley needs friends they really do. exes: charley has dated around a few times, with relationships ending badly or as friends. just give me all the exes.

The two men didn't even notice Rachel left, talking on and on about City of Combat.

"I hope I'm not keeping you here, by the way," Roman said, looking around the venue as more and more people started coming in.

"You're not," Trent assured him. "I have said hi to all our biological relatives today. All I have left to say hi to is the extra guests. I wanted to greet Evren's family, but they don't seem to be here."

Roman raised an eyebrow. "Evren's family aren't here?"

Trent nodded. "I guess he had bad luck with them," he said. "People don't choose their families, after all."

"They don't," Roman agreed, thinking back to his own.

"But you and Rachel have, I take it, given you've adopted," he said, looking down at Martha.

Roman paled. "Uh, no, this is mine and Rachel's baby."

Best friend squad download: Charlotte

Charlotte was born the bastard daughter of Queen Charlotte Siew in Pleasantview. Her other parent is an associate grim reaper, Eliza. As a supernatural creature, Eliza wasn’t able to be around for much of her daughter’s life, but she loves Charlotte deeply and saw her whenever she could.

Charlotte was raised by her standoffish mother, and her loving step-father who gladly adopted her as his own daughter. She still felt different her whole life, as she didn’t really resemble her half-brother and sister and her mother was only happy with her so long as Charlotte did what she was ordered to do.

She was engaged to Leo, who like her was the accidental bastard of royalty. Charlotte gladly helped him elope with her best man, and ran away from her life to start something new that she chose for herself. She managed to travel with her reaper mother for a few months, but was called back to her old life when her parents were killed and her ten year old brother needed a guardian. She sacrificed her own dreams of travelling the world as a nobody to assume her mother’s throne and married a near stranger to keep her country stable and out of a potential war.

Luckily, she and her wife Theodosia really hit it off and work as a united team to better their countries for everyone. Charlotte still dreams of travelling the globe and frequently walks around town in ordinary clothes, hoping no one will recognize her. She doesn’t plan on having kids for a long while but is dedicated to raising her brother Ben, and Theodosia’s child from a previous relationship Theodora. Charlotte puts on a strong front publicly, but really is happiest just playing with her dog in her sweatpants.
