In 1893, H.G. Wells was showing off his Time Machine that he had constructed to a small group of select friends. What he didn’t realize was that one of the friends was actually Jack the Ripper. When the police came close to capturing the murderer, the killer used Wells’ machine to escape to 1979.(Time After Time, Flm)

RACCONTAMI SHAKESPEARE allo Spazio Teatro No'hma  - Milano il 17 & 18/01

Jack the Ripper escaped the past in a time machine built by H.G. Wells and ended up trapped in 1979. Wells followed the murderer from the past and a game of cat and mouse began in the future world… at least to them. (Time After Time, Flm)

Missing is a 1982 American biographical thriller drama film directed by Costa-Gavras from a screenplay written by Gavras and Donald E. Stewart, adapted from the book The Execution of Charles Horman: An American Sacrifice (1978) by Thomas Hauser (later republished under the title Missing in 1982), based on the disappearance of American journalist Charles Horman, in the aftermath of the United States-backed Chilean coup of 1973, which deposed the democratically elected socialist President Salvador Allende.
It stars Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Mayron, John Shea, Janice Rule and Charles Cioffi. Set largely during the days and weeks following Horman's disappearance, the film examines the relationship between Horman's wife Beth and his father Edmund and their subsequent quest to find Horman.
It received four nominations at the 55th Academy Awards; Best Picture, Best Actor (for Lemmon), Best Actress (for Spacek) and won Best Adapted Screenplay. The film created significant controversy in Chile and was banned during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship; neither Chile nor Pinochet is mentioned by name, although the Chilean cities of Viña del Mar and Santiago are. "It's just so silly to think that somebody else can help anybody, isn't it?"
I liked the part with the cat food.
With a solid mix of cold cynicism and hopeful romanticism, Klute kept me well entertained. The strength of its writing for characters and dialogue more than made up for the somewhat subdued plot.
Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland's performances were both excellent; Their characters felt grounded and believable, and the relationship between them that made up the core of the movie was compelling. Charles Cioffi's character was quite undeveloped for someone with such a significant role in the latter half of the movie, which was certainly an odd decision.
Nice camerawork throughout, with paranoia-inducing shots and some great uses of light and shadow. The scene with Klute pursuing the suspect through the abandoned apartment had an incredibly tense, creepy tone. There were a couple of unsettling bird's eye shots, of an industrial elevator ascending in complete silence, that were particularly effective.
Michael Small's score worked really well with the material, giving it plenty of breathing space, but coming in strong during emotional and tense moments. There was a bit of an issue with pacing, particularly with the interspersed psychiatrist conversations, and the ending was pretty anti-climactic all things considered. I think I liked the idea of Klute just a little more than the actual implementation, which was a shame.
A moody neo-noir thriller with great atmosphere. Very good.
