forgive me, I know I could do this myself but I am both incredibly lazy and incredibly curious -- you have a detailed list of which Vice Versa universe each gmmtv show is in? Could we... have a peek? if not that's all right haha

*cracks knuckles* ok so it's probably not fully complete (it's been a bit since I last watched and I apparently didn't note everything down) and I've also included some other shows too but here's what I have

Vice Versa:

Universe 1 (the starting universe): Theory of Love is a show and Gun is specifically mentioned as being a real person, Tay Tawan is also a real person/actor in this universe

Universe 2 (the one where we spend the most time in): Theory of Love is just regular reality with all the characters being real people in it, Akk and Theo from Enchante are also just regular real people in it, Tay Tawan has a slightly different name and is a delivery driver not an actor, there's a vet named Mix played by Mix Sahaphap who is a vet irl

Conclusion: most gmmtv shows exist as shows in the first Vice Versa universe, while the shows are real life in the other, except for shows starring Tay Tawan or Mix since they're regular people in that universe. This also seems to set the idea that the shows in one universe are reality in the other.

But Vice Versa isn't the most complicated one. No, it's trying to untangle the web of what My School President establishes that's tricky

Bad Buddy is a tv show in their universe and Ohm, Nanon, and Mark are all referenced to be real people in their universe, however almost the entire main cast of My School President had minor or supporting roles in Bad Buddy so there's a lot of doppelganger stuff going on here

P'Aof makes a cameo as a different person (Tutor Nop) and references ATOTS with A Tale of Thousand Scores, but P'Aof directed Bad Buddy which is a show here so another doppelganger

Now the special Our Skyy 2 episode takes place in an alternate universe and there they make references to Bad Buddy, A Tale of Thousand Stars, and He's Coming to Me

In the Bad Buddy and ATOTS Our Skyy episodes, they reveal that they take place in the same universe. I posit that this gives weight to the idea that He's Coming to Me also takes place in this universe.

BACK TO MSP, I saw a post that shows that there is like background easter eggs that show that MSP and The Eclipse also share a universe.

The Eclipse is then a tv show in Wandee Goodday, meaning that MSP is probably also a show in Wandee Goodday's universe

CONCLUSION: The characters of My School President are real people in the Universe 1 of Vice Versa and are characters in Universe 2. This is because of the existence of gmmtv and recognition of the actors and whatnot. This also means that the characters in The Eclipse are real people in universe 1 and characters in universe 2. Which means Bad Buddy, A Tale of Thousand Stars, He's Coming to Me, and Wandee Goodday would take place in universe 2 (which might be why we Mix as just a vet instead of an actor because his characters are real people), and Wandee Goodday would be a tv show in the MSP/The Eclipse universe.

Also, gay marriage is legal in Thailand in Universe 2. Tian and Phupha get engaged in the Our Skyy 2 special and I jsut saw that Fluke said that Oyei and Cher are married in Wandee Goodday, which also adds water to this theory!

Am I overthinking this and none of this was actually intentional by the people at GMMTV? Absolutely! But it's fun to think about and as long as you allow for the existence of doppelgangers (and ignore that the changes Vice Versa established as being true in Universe 2 doesn't appear at all in the shows that supposedly take place there) it doesn't completely contradict itself!

Now don't ask me if Midnight Museum fits into this because I have no idea where to begin with their multiverse

You know, it just hit me how brutal this really was for the grandmother - because if Phaya's parents are gone, that means she's already experienced losing a child. And then Phaya almost dying as a child, and then almost dying again here, and then disappearing...this poor woman!

Also, I adore the look she gives him when he says he was worried she wouldn't approve of him dating a guy. The words were sweet, but this first look is definitely a "you dumbass child".

Ok, this may seem like a really little thing, but after eons of shows where characters like this are shown as oblivious to danger, I love that she immediately picks up that something is wrong with the new cops.

Thai BL Favorites List Tag Game

favorite bl: never let me go (nobody is surprised) it's unique, innovative, the first gmmtv bl series based on an original script rather than adapted from a novel. the lovechild of cringe 90s thai action dramas and BL tropes that p'jojo flirts with or fucks with depending on how he's feeling. palm and nueng live in my head 24/7 and the cinematography of the series drove me to learn how to make gifs (something i would not recommend you do if you value your freetime lol)

favorite pairing: palmnueng :) power imbalance, social expectations, and simmering sexual tension that all breaks loose at the seashore. duty turned to devotion and loneliness turned to love. two 18-year-olds whose life circumstances couldn't be more different yet find mirror images of their own insecurities and lack of self-worth in each other. clinging onto each other only to let go in the name of love. but always returning to each other, their other half, their soulmate. literally everything i could ever want in a pair. bonus: they kiss each other like they actually want to.

most underrated actor: sing! he's great in comedic roles (had me wheezing with laughter in unidentified mysterious girlfriend). but completely slayed as todd in not me. toddblack scenes make me genuinely sick. i would love to see more of him in dark dramas. also you really just have to respect his dedication. he survived infamous early series like slamdance (he was paired with drake) and put his whole pussy into the puppy play in warp effect.

favorite character: palm pannakorn jannaloy my most beloved boy. breaks my heart and heals it at the same time. he's just such a fundamentally good, kind person. and pretty much nothing in his life makes that easy. eternally self-sacrificing, without much love for himself but so so much love for others. even when they leave him behind. look! the very first gif i ever made was of him - see below and kindly disregard the quality.

favorite side character: pa jindapat out of all the series i've watched, pa is probably the character i relate to the most. that's why she's my pfp! i love her messy buns and glasses and over-sized t-shirts. she just feels very real in all her interactions with pat and her cluelessness about her very big crush on ink. the little tremble in her voice in the dark room scene when she tells ink "i liked it. i liked it so much i thought that i was special to you" makes me tear up. she's funny and she's bold and she holds her ground and i love her. very much.

favorite scene: the farewell dance - never let me go, episode 9 there's no dialogue. just music. grief-stricken palm and nueng dancing slowly, somberly in a motel room palm will wake up alone in the next morning. nueng knows he's leaving; deep down, palm probably knows too. their steps slow and palm seeks comfort in a kiss that quickly turns desperate because they're both hurting and the only thing that will numb the pain is each other. the feeling of tears running down palm's face forces nueng to pull away. the look on nueng's face as he wipes palm's tears away is possibly my favorite thing phuwin has ever done. he looks so goddamn heartbroken and guilty, because nueng feels like palm's brokenness is his fault. also one of my favorite performances from pond - and he was in the hospital earlier that day!!

favorite line: "i love you. and i want you to love yourself too." ayan to akk; the eclipse, episode 12, part 1/4. speaks for itself i think.

most anticipated bl and why: dangerous romance although i'm definitely excited for only friends, i have a soft spot for underdogs and this series seems like one (especially if it airs at the same time as only friends). i love perth especially and both chimon and him are crazy talented actors. i hope despite the silly title of the series, the script gives them something good to work with. and i hope that "i hate you" kiss in the rain from the pilot is better in the actual series lmao. the bts photos are making me super excited! also: viewjune let's gooooooo

healthiest relationship in a bl: heartliming these two make me cry. really just the epitome of finding a safe space in another person and providing them with a safe space in yourself. everything about them is beautiful. the amount of effort and care they put into learning how to communicate with each other is incredible. i love that they fight alongside each other. and: "i love it when i'm with him" - sometimes it's really as simple as that.

most toxic relationship in a bl: going to second @firstkanaphans here and say tharntype this almost feels like a cop-out because it's so obvious, but it's true. nothing will ever excuse the things tharn did to type without his consent, and type's internalized and externalized homophobia wasn't dealt with satisfactorily in my opinion. there are good kernels in every story, but the bad overwhelmed the few good ones in this series for me.

guilty pleasure series: love by chance guilty because it's mame and i don't love how aggressive they make ae (the sweetest, gentlest boy) toward the end. to be honest i skipped everything except for the aepete scenes when i watched this so i can't comment on the rest. but i often find myself returning to episode 4, in particular, because ae's feelings realization journey is lovely and soft and seeing baby perth and saint is always a treat. i liked it enough to gif it, so...

bonus! most underrated series: my only 12% created this bonus category so i can beg you to watch this one if you haven't. trust me and suffer through the bad haircuts and slow burn. i knew it was different from other series when seeiw cries while watching a queer movie with his sister, recognizing his own feelings onscreen, then sneaks downstairs to watch the rest by himself in tears later that night. that experience is so fucking real. this series seared me with its portrayal of the nostalgia and grief of childhood friendships and eventual separation, and the role reversal post-reunion is so well done it makes me insane. i was sobbing in my room at 4am and that's the best review i can give a series.

Thai QL Favorite Tag Game

Oh this is going to be fun! Thank you sm @rocketturtle4 for the tag. I feel special 😄.

Anygay... I got into BL about a year ago when I stumbled upon a Bad Buddy reaction video. I watched the first 10 minutes and my brain lit up. I remember thinking - ok Orya, this is something else. You NEED to go watch this show. Now! and that's what I did. I binged BBS and rewatched it a few times until I felt I was ready to dive into the world of BL. My only other QL media experiences were western so this felt very different.

I do have to say that in addition to watching the shows - being here, reading, and taking part in the discussions around these shows has helped me process some things that I haven't had the ability to do in my day to day life. So, I have great appreciation for the genre as well as the wonderful humans that are taking part in these discussions.

And with that said - shall we...?

Favorite Thai QL - I have to say that for me it's a tie between I Told Sunset About You and 180 Degrees Longitude. Both these shows have managed to touch on some very specific queer experiences, to say very specific to me. These shows have managed to make me cry about my own experience (as opposed to just feeling for the characters). watching these shows was a therapeutic experience for me, and I will forever be grateful to them for it.

(However, I will NOT forgive the translators of 180DL for translating Mol as mom 98% of the time! So if you're watching the show take into account that almost every time the subs say mom - Pond is actually calling her by her name.)

Favorite Pairing - I think my favorite pair is First and Khaotung. They have great chemistry and it's always fun to watch them together. Even in MLC where they hardly interact, once they are together on screen they are ON. I also like the way they talk about their friendship.

Most Underrated Actor - in the wake of the most excellent La Pluie, I will have to give it to Title and Pee. They are seriously good.

Favorite Character - so many to choose from... Why are you making me choose?!

Well, if I HAVE to choose, I think I'll go with Ayan from The Eclipse. He is a menace, he is damaged, he really loves Akk, he really loves his mother, he has a purpose, he will fight for his beliefs. And I am here for all of it.

Favorite Side Character - I'm going with two characters (please don't make me choose)

Chot from Step by Step - in addition to the fact that I simply love him, I think he provides very important rep and allows a discussion about the complexities of being queer in non-queer spaces.

Ink from BBS - she is very real. She knows what's up and she will call you out on your bs. I also think that her presence in Pat and Pran's life gives them perspective. It's like she's there to bounce ideas and feelings off. Especially Pat who comes to her to check himself and his feelings (if this makes sense...)

Favorite Scene in a QL - again, I had to narrow it down to 3 and I can't choose. So 3 it is!

For the family and agenda - The group dinner at Pat and Pa's room with Ink and Pran. first of all I love that they have each other and can have this family time with people they can truly be themselves with. Then, I think the conversation they have around the table is important and offers a glimpse into P'Aof's BL-to-QL agenda.

For the beauty and feels - this! From Not Me

For the personal queer experience - Step by Step and the Jeng Intervention. Jeng sitting in a room having to listen to people discuss his sexuality like he's not even there, talking over his head, othering him and leaving him no room to offer anything to the discussion other than an apology, when actually, bottom line, they want the gossip. Say what you will about Step by Step, but this scene depicts an experience that I haven't seen addressed in other Thai bls.

Favorite Line in a QL - this is the first thing that came to mind 😄

Most Anticipated QL (& why?) - I'm gonna have to go with almost everyone and say Only Friends. Why? Because first, Jojo. Then, I think that this is going to be something very different to what we usually get to see. The fact that this show is allowed to have all the mess + partner switching + gays that are gay and want to be gay with each other? It's a win in my book!

I don't mind that they will probably get together with their 'official' partner at the end, but just the fact that they are allowed to have a queer past (or present) with other characters, that is present on screen, is very different. We get that a little bit with Allan and Wen in MLC and I'm looking forward to seeing this in Only Friends.

Healthiest Relationship in a QL - PatPran hands down. And I feel more stongly about this after the Our Skyy 2 ep. These two are together by choice and that is what will keep them together. They talk about things, they are aware of their issues, and they are willing to listen and compromise for each other. I loved that the OS2 special helps us see how their 2 years separation (on bbs 12) is not such a big deal for them. They know that they choose to be together and that it's not a temporary thing. Therefore, what are 2 years in the long run...

Most Toxic Relationship in a QL - I'm going with a non-romantic relationship here and I have to give it to Wang/sasiwimol from 180DL.

Guilty Pleasure Series - House of Stars! I LOVE this show. It is insane and unhinged and peak soap opera. The subs are only vaguely related to what the characters are saying. People are jumping in and out of each other's beds. I said it before and I'll say it again - I am here for all 4,971 episodes of multiple generations of this hot mess! 😂

After episode 6, I feel like I need to talk about color symbolism in the series. Usually, I am not one to pick up on any symbolism reading, but in this case, it is just too visible that I couldn't ignore it anymore. To start, I am just going to say, that this post will focus on color symbolism specifically in Thailand. Please let me know if you find any of what I write here is incorrect since I am not a Thai and I could not double-check this open-source-based information.

The color symbolism in Thailand:

(1) The country's flag colors. The flag uses three colors to represent the main concepts of Thailand: red, white, and blue. Red represents the nation, the people, and the blood of the people. White represents the purity of Buddhism as the main religion in the country. Blue represents the king and the monarchy. I think it's worth mentioning that the flag is consistently shown in almost if not all episodes as one of the establishing shots. Also, in the special episode, Neo (who plays Kan's character) said. "The Eclipse talks about a whole country minimized in a form of a school". So, if we took the flag as the representation of the country, I guess we could think that the series will somehow have all three symbolisms as part of its elements.

(2) Colors and political statements. Red is the color linked to the democracy supporters, while yellow is the color linked to the monarchy supporters. However, this doesn't mean that these colors are always off-limits beyond political protests. For example, people wear yellow on Father’s Day as the color linked to the King while they wear light blue on Mother’s Day as the color is linked to the Queen.

(3) Colors and religious influence. Red, the color of vermilion used in temples, represents the power of love, desire, passion, and energy. Orange, or saffron, the color of robes used by monks, represents spiritual ascension, radiance, and enlightenment. Parts of the robes may have brown color.

(4) For a visually obvious reason, I need to mention black. Black is the color of sorrow and mourning, usually worn in the event of an unfortunate monarch’s death.

(5) There is also a discussion about colors in everyday life (i.e., lucky vs. unlucky color of each day in a week). But I will not talk about this as I haven't found its relevance in the series thus far.

Now, here's the color symbolism in The Eclipse based on the colors mentioned above (*I only rely on my memories without doing any rewatch, so I might miss some details*):

(1) Red, as in blood red, is mainly used as the color of outfits. The most visible is Teacher Waree with her dress in episode 4. Other uses are the 'blood' curse and the color of one of the food stalls during the scene of Wat and Teacher Sani in episode 6.

(2) White is also mainly used as the color of outfits; both Teacher Waree and Teacher Sani once wore the color for their dress and suits respectively. Also, white is part of the color of the school uniform (i.e., the shirts and the socks), as well as the color of the undershirt/t-shirt used by some students. As for other uses, this might be irrelevant, but the scene of Kan and Thua working at Kan's place, and then Kan bringing them two glasses of milk, screamed 'white' to me.

(3) Blue is used as the color of the school authorities' uniforms and students' tracksuits, as well as the color of Suppalo's logo. We've seen the principal, Teacher Chadok, Teacher Waree (although in a flashback), Teacher Sani, Teacher Dika (also in a flashback), and one other teacher-whose-name-I-don't-know who's present during Teacher Sani's interview (also in a flashback).

(4) Yellow, as in bright yellow, is the color of one of Teacher Waree's dresses, while light blue is the color of one of Teacher Sani's suits.

(5) Orange and brown are the colors used on a wall and an announcement board in the Student Welfare Department's office. Orange/saffron/brown is also the color of Akk's tops in that last scene of episode 6.

(6) Black is the color of uniforms of the students and the teachers in general. It is also the color of Ayan's jacket.
