Ivy Kekoa — I really think that Ivy would be a badass, protective friend for Claudia, and that they would definitely have that kind of “Someone will die.” “Of fun!” dynamic that I always love in media.

Bailey Taylor — Claudia and Bailey are pretty similar, I think, even if Bailey might have a bit more of a temper, but overall I think they would be the sweetest pair of sweetheart besties.

FOR ARIEL BERRY:

Parker Holloway — sarcastic besties! I think Parker and Ariel really have a pretty similar aesthetic, so it definitely wouldn’t be hard for them to get along and have fun judging people together.

Bruno Keeley — I think Bruno and Ariel could be a fun expected duo. Ariel would be willing to beat people up for Bruno, and Bruno could provide a more level head in situations where Ariel’s pissed off.

FOR FRANCESCA:

'Andrew Garfield and Tom Hardy are to play the iconic roles of Winston Smith and Big Brother in an audio adaptation of George Orwell's world-famous novel, 1984.

The dystopian tale is set in a nightmarish future, where a superstate named Oceania is held in the grip of a totalitarian leader, whose forces ensure freedom of thought and expression is harshly restricted.

The story unfolds from the perspective of Winston, the archetypal 'everyman', who begins to question the regime and – together with his colleague and lover, Julia (Cynthia Erivo) – seeks out a resistance group called The Brotherhood.

This latest adaptation also features celebrated Fleabag and All of Us Strangers star Andrew Scott as O'Brien, a mysterious figure who crosses paths with Winston and Julia on their journey.

This full cast for the audio drama also features Romesh Ranganathan as Parsons, Natasia Demetriou as Mrs Parsons, Chukwudi Iwuji as Charrington, Francesca Mills as Syme, Katie Leung as Ling and Alex Lawther as Ampleforth.

For Lawther, 1984 marks a reunion with director Destiny Ekaragha, who previously helmed episodes of Channel 4 comedy-drama The End of the F***ing World, which proved to be his breakout project.

Ekaragha said: "This is my first experience directing an audio drama, and what an honour it was to work so closely with a cast of this calibre. I can't wait for everyone to hear what the Andrews, Cynthia and Tom have done with these iconic characters."

1984 will be available to listen to on Audible from Thursday 4th April 2023, marking exactly 40 years since Winston's first diary entry in the classic novel. The title is available for pre-order now through Audible.

In addition to the high-profile actors, the production also features music from Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri (Informer), who have crafted an original score performed by a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road studios.

The soundtrack includes two re-workings of Muse songs.

Aurelie de Troyer, Head of Regional Content, Europe at Audible, added: "This is 1984 like you've never heard it before.

"We've assembled a top team of creatives across the board, and the combination of the principal cast and Matt and Ilan's epic soundtrack is something quite extraordinary.

365 Day Movie Challenge (2019) - #100: This Man Is Mine (1934) - dir. John Cromwell

This Man Is Mine is one of the weakest offerings from Hollywood’s pre-Code era of talkies, but at least the blame belongs with the subpar writing, not the actors. Adapted by Jane Murfin from the play Love Flies in the Window by Anne Morrison Chapin, the film follows a couple, Tony (Irene Dunne) and Jim Dunlap (Ralph Bellamy), whose wedded bliss implodes when Jim’s former fiancée, Francesca Harper (Constance Cummings), returns to their small town after many years away. Jim’s heart was broken by Fran once before, but she has only one plan in mind for her homecoming: to steal Jim back from Tony.

Despite my general affection for Irene Dunne and Ralph Bellamy, they are hopelessly bland in their roles. Scenes are only good when featuring Constance Cummings’ lively performance as the glamorous homewrecker, as well as Kay Johnson (director John Cromwell’s wife and the mother of renowned character actor James Cromwell) playing Dunne’s wisecracking best friend and Sidney Blackmer as an unscrupulous playboy with designs on Cummings. I just wish the story were as saucy as it tries to be, although one line of dialogue stands out for its shock value, considering the Hays Office’s watchful eye: after a dalliance, Fran asks Jim whether he has any makeup smudges on his face, then answers her own question in the third person: “Any lipstick? No... Fran’s careful where she puts it.” How the censors ever let a line alluding to oral sex go by unnoticed is anyone’s guess, so this mostly disappointing film is worth tolerating for that moment alone.
