"Oh yeah?" Ember's gaze was flirty and playful. She leaned against Jesse's shoulder, looking into the brightly blazing bonfire the Crescents were gathered around. "You going to keep me safe from all of the wolves and scary monsters in the woods? Or just keep me safe from that moonshine still when it finally explodes?"

"Dude, you picked up a keg of beer and split your damn pants down the ass. That's not funny, that's hilarious. You're just lucky Hope ain't taught me to use this phone yet or I'd have posted the pictures on the internet by now," Jackson was still quaking with laughter. "Here, gimme the thing - go change before the whole pack knows what color underwear you've got on, alright?"

"Engaged?" Jackson clutched his chest. "Quick, kid, did my hair all just turn grey?" He felt a hundred years old all of a sudden. But a moment later he laughed, clapping Jesse on the shoulder. "I want to hear all about her. How you met, how you proposed, everything, alright? I'm incredibly proud, and glad I'll get to be here for the wedding now."

"then i probably shouldn't overwhelm you with the news that this whole-ass man is also engaged." there was no hiding the pride he felt when speaking about his engagement. skyla was the love of his life, and with his father gone he had not had the opportunity to announce his plans for a proposal to him, and while the other members of the pack were just as much family, but none were a father figure. telling jackson now, felt like the universe was giving him the opportunity that was taken from him.

"No, you're just not listening. You asked me about my home, and I told you I didn't have one. Sky and me bounced through foster homes like a ping pong ball, the hollow where our real family lived is all gone. I don't have a home - I'm okay with that."

Jackson hadn't been looking for Jesse - hadn't been looking for anyone as he fought a defensive holding action, really - but he caught sight of the young man and he felt his heart sink. Any Crescent wolf knew that look. The look of someone who'd done something they could never take back, something that had activated a part of them most wished could stay latent forever. He'd seen it too many times - he'd been one of them. And so when he approached, it was slowly and cautiously. "Jesse," he called softly from a few feet away. "We're gonna get you safe now, okay? We're gonna take you home. Promise."

he always thought that if he ever were to do it, it would be in the name of protecting those he held close and loved deeply. being selfless wasn't new to the young wolf, he'd gotten that from his mother, but as he wandered through the streets of what used to be new orleans. one left and he'd be in the town of mystic falls and yet that was less out of this world than what he was feeling at the moment. every emotion raced through him but he felt shock most of all. sweat beaded down his temple mixing like watercolor with the blood splattered on him. he had triggered his curse. he took human life tonight, something he'd tried so hard to avoid, only for it to happen when he was backed into a corner and forced to defend himself. coming up on a light post, jesse pausing in his trance to lean against it. a hand raised to steady himself only to be confronted by the evidence of what he had done, dirty blood soaked hands that for the first time looked foreign to him.

"Amazing how it changes perception when you see a person as a little kid one day and a whole-ass man the next," Jackson agreed. "My lips are sealed, on all counts. I'm pretty sure I could still tell you that story myself, and technically the last time I heard it was eighteen years ago."

"i guess i sort of did, especially to you." jesse laughed, shrugging it off while running digits through his blonde hair. "it was, but don't tell her that, she gets upset when people say that. she likes to think i'm her spitting image, and i don't need to hear about how long she labored with me. trust me, i know the story."

Jackson reached out his fist automatically, though the use of his name was briefly confusing. When Jesse explained who he was, there was an odd moment of doubling in his vision as his brain tried to overlay the Jesse he remembered with the grown man in front of him. "Damn, kid. You sprouted like a damn weed, didn't you? Must have been your father's genes, because your mom's short ass didn't do that for you."

"hey, jackson, i think they're good!" he nodded in greeting, setting down the last of what he was helping them with. the girl that had been unloading alone offered her thanks for his help before closing up the truck, leaving them. jesse turned back to the other, extending his fist for jackson to bump. "you look like you found the fountain of youth, wait-- im sorry, that means you might not even have met me yet. i'm jesse kenner, charlie kenner's first born." all of this was going to take some time getting use to, how many relationship would he have to start over? how many are just gone now?

Jackson had wandered out the back after a time, looking for a breath of fresh air and some evening light. It'd probably be a while before he stopped feeling strange not being a wolf, and that would mean needing to take some time outside to acclimate as necessary. He could see the delivery truck and the staff unloading the kegs and boxes, and wandered over in that direction. "Y'all need a hand?"

he'd parted from his fiance to help out some of the staff who had been bringing the new supply of refreshments. he wasn't that surprised to know that they were already low on beer-- he could only assume the crescents had something to do with that. jesse couldn't blame them either, it felt odd that when this town showed up in their city, that one of the residents were so quick to bring everyone to their mansion when everyone had hardly had time to take in everything that had happened.
