The Humans saw their creature die. And they worshipped it for dying and as dying.

Gods do not die. Yet this one dies, as the words of worship make it so. Yet it lives, as the power of worship makes it so. The Undying God screams. The Carrion Lord rots, yet the Immortal Emperor grows in power.

The Undying God screams……and is heard.

It starts in the Throne room but gradually spreads throughout the Palace. Why should they fear or hate it? The words of their Lord are met with joy. Their changing bodies accepted with honour.

(What if the presence of the Emperor's Death had...side effects? Soul-bound to Him as they are, surely his Dearest Companions would change with Him...)

Tips for Writing Character Descriptions

(Starring Shaw, an OC from Constellations as he is a bastard and I love him) Let's start with a very boring description as a baseline.

'He looked more like a vampire than most of his kind. His skin was unnaturally pale and his eyes all black. His bald head had metal plates riveted into it. His throat was in a collar with wires that burrowed into his skin. His grin showed a lot of sharp teeth. His gauntlets were tipped with long claws.'

Oof, that's boring. The list-like sentence structure has already put me half to sleep. Sounds like you've described a Halloween prop instead of a character, Shaw sounds very lifeless.

1. Remove pronouns You have just introduced your character. The next paragraph is the description and that is why it is a separate paragraph, the Reader will still be able to follow when the paragraph after that is back to the narrative. The Reader does not need constant pronouns to remind them who is being described.

'Looked more like a vampire than most of his kind. Skin was unnaturally pale and eyes all black. Bald head had metal plates riveted into it. Throat was in a collar with wires that burrowed into his skin. Grin showed a lot of sharp teeth. Gauntlets were tipped with long claws.'

Even though some of your sentences don't make sense any more, it's still more exciting to read, isn't it? Your eyes are enjoying all those different capital letters.

2. Change your sentence layout Since we're going with minimal pronoun usage, sentences will need to change to make sense. But let's go a little further and switch some of them around.

'Looked more like a vampire than most of his kind. Skin unnaturally pale and eyes all black. Metal plates riveted into his bald head. Throat was in a collar with wires that burrowed into his skin. Sharp teeth showed in a grin. Gauntlets were tipped with long claws.'

Oh yes, much better. However, he still sounds like he's just standing there. Well, maybe he is, but he can't be completely lifeless.

3. Tie in some actions Animate your character. What are they doing while being described? Think about your setting but also what sort of person they are. Or maybe they really aren't doing anything. So, describe the setting, the light, the atmosphere.

'Looked more like a vampire than most of his kind. Skin unnaturally pale and eyes all black. Dim lighting played over metal plates riveted into his bald head. Throat was in a collar with wires that burrowed into his skin. Sharp teeth showed in a grin. Gauntlets tipped with long claws flexed lazily on the armrests of the throne.'

Looking good! In all honesty you could stop there, but maybe it just needs an extra touch of something to finish off and make him truly memorable.

4. Abstract imagery Similes and metaphors! Yes, doing these last, now that we a have a feel for the character. And let's keep away from 'x like a' and 'x was a' wording. Not just similes and metaphors though, let's change up some of our words and actions. Choose words and imagery that make the Reader feel how they should feel about this character. E.g. don't tell me someone is shifty, tell me their words are slippery and that they never meet my gaze for more than a second.

'Looked more like a vampire than most of his grotesque kind. Corpse-white skin around pitted eyes that gleamed like tar in the dim light. That same light played over metal plates riveted into his naked scalp. Throat clasped in a collar with maggot wires that wormed darkly into his skin. Sharp teeth flashed in a crocodilian grin. Gauntlets tipped with long claws flexed lazily on the armrests of the throne.'

Now this is great! In this one short description you've not only described Shaw in an exciting, interesting and fun-to-read way, but put him in the setting and introduced his personality.

Now the Reader knows what Shaw looks like, but also that his collar is hurting him(maggot wires/wormed darkly), he's laid-back and considers his high position secure while being willing to defend it with force(long claws flexed lazily) and that he uses deception and sudden overwhelming violence to get what he wants(crocodilian grin).

Now he sounds like a memorable character!

first draft of Blue’s updated design! still not 100% on the palette but considering her nickname it had to be mostly blue hfgkjxdhlfgf

Blue is SIk’s older sister, although he hasn’t seen her in ages. her reputation as a “bad influence” meant that she wasnt able to spend a lot of time with him, but he remembers her fondly and Kara reminds him of her a little bit.

she’s very impulsive and speaks without thinking, which can cause her to be pretty insensitive, insulting, or inappropriate. it doesn’t help that she reacts negatively to even the smallest form of criticism: it sounds like you’re supposed to either take her with her flaws or not take her at all. she... doesn’t actually think that, though. Blue’s fully aware that she’s a flawed person, and struggles with a lot of internalized self-hatred that leads to her lashing out at people because she feels like they’re telling her things she’s already telling herself over and over and she’s tired of hearing it.

her original concept in Shattered Worlds was that.. okay, without going into too much detail, for a little while SK was a multiple system i guess? not really the best portrayal of one, though, this was before we realized we were plural. Blue was one of her headmates, so in Chaosverse a lot of her redesign is callbacks to SK’s various designs in SW (some of which stuck around when she got retooled into Sik). it was fun to work with!

she doesnt have a big role in CV just yet, but im hoping to have her be a central character in a post-Forces arc!

oh yeah ive been talking to charlene on dA abt rly old characters of ours, like as part of the same convo that had me pull out the unfinished pic of Frost, so: here’s one of my middleschool Sonic OCs, Sol! no relation to my fursona. in fact she got renamed to Juno in Chaosverse as a reference to... some sort of AU i don’t remember the details of. human AU?

her design was heavily inspired by Julie-Su from archie comics but... before i read archie at all? in fact i think i just like, stumbled across her in a sprite comic or something (potentially Power Rings) and thought she looked cool, so she inspired Juno. (i actually remember someone at school seeing me draw her and asking me if she was part of the dark legion or w/e its called but it entirely went over my head lmfao)

her original colourscheme (top) is. wonderful. waow.

ANYWAY YEAH i was working on redesigning her for cv but first pass was as a non-cyborg bc i didnt want to have her involved in the vent/aile/brenlo plot, and she was also a treasure hunter of some sort i think? but she’s due for a Lot of revision. mostly bc i wanna bring her closer to her origins again

her entire original concept&backstory is that shes a cyborg that’s prone to malfunctioning, none of her built-in abilities (flight, laser cannon, etc) work correctly when she needs them to, she’s just a downright disaster that did her best anyway. she’s specifically an experimental creation (with her full name occasionally being listed as “Mechafusion Test Model SOL”, or “Mechafusion Combat Model” in one incarnation), and i think was at one point specifically created to be a guardian superhero of her home city (originally Sol City, with her being named after it). so i guess she’s like, capable, bc despite being a test model she IS a hero and apparently was quite famous in her hometown before joining up with Team Brennan to help take down somebody named Guy who i remember nothing about

she later got replaced with the original version of Seven after we all came up with like, a new generation of characters, and there was some kind of hinting somewhere that they were related or at least knew each other but that got derailed once Seven’s original backstory came together where she’s like. a runaway from Nocturne and Shade’s sister. (none of this is in Chaosverse.) and Sol got kinda put to the wayside and i dont think she even made it into Shattered Worlds. so like, she was exclusive to a story setting i had w/ irl friends in middle school. which is really wild.

You Know... Rather than me and @chaosverse-mainblog, I've never seen anybody else draw fanart of Xena (my EXE OC), and I'm kinda sad about it.

Bro, I don't only want fanart of her, I want people drawing fanart of her meeting their EXEs, i want them to even redesign and/or reinvent her and make her a true EXE that looks terrifying or uncanny. I want that level of famous.

But I'm happy someone else drew her, I'm cool with that.

What's the chaosverse?

its a Sonic au i came up with in, like, 2017, building off a lot of my headcanons about the characters and… then kinda just going rampant? as well as having a shitton of OCs in it that mingle w/ the canon cast while also having their own storylines lmao

most of it is redesigns and things like that:

as well as some game plotlines going in a totally different direction than canon, eg Forces being rebuilt from the ground up, Lost World taking place as part of Colours (and Tails getting permanently modified), Zero Gravity having an OC team as the primary focus rather than Team Sonic (although theyre still involved), etc

there’s also a lot of messing around with backstories and identities; Sonic’s a trans girl and has some relevance to Project: Shadow, and most of the cast (both canon and OC) is LGBT+ and/or neurodivergent because im LGBT+ and neurodivergent so it kinda just… ends up like that.

i havent really done much with it, but i started an askblog @askchaosverse and ive been drawing some comics and ive made attempts at fanfic that i havent shared bc of being extremely incomplete. the actual story stuff is named Checkpoint, w/ Chaosverse being the setting it all takes place in, but… i usually just end up using CV to refer to Checkpoint and the setting interchangeably. :,)

im not totally sure what im gonna do with all of these ideas just yet but AskCV is a good starting point :>

ACTUALLY I JUST STARTED WONDERING IF SHE’D NAME HERSELF “RIPLEY COMEBACk” AND IM SCREAMING either way, Ripley was originally a SRB2 oc! in CV, she was created as a joint project between Double, Copy, and Wayne (and using some data from Vent... and from NICOLE). originally she’s an AI, but then she gets a rad android body based off of her preferred avatar

...she also happens to have memories that line up pretty eerily to her Shattered Worlds self. with no one knowing how t he hell that even happened.

(ripley also has a chronic phobia of doors due to incidents in her “false” memories. attempts to coach her through it, especially once she’s downloaded, have been unsuccessful.)
