Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life. You are not your past and the future is not here yet, all you have is the present moment. Don't cry over the past, it's gone. All the challenges you have been through were lessons in disguise. Now is the time to allow yourself a glimmer of hope that you can move on from the experiences so they stop weighing you down. If you keep reliving the memories of the past it is like dragging around old scruffy suitcases, they are comfortable but they are a burden and a right pain in the backside. Don't stress about the future, it hasn't arrived. Here is your solution: http://www.mikayla-holmes.com/blog/posts/the-secret-power-of-your-breath

How to build your resilience
This video is a starting point so that you can discover How to build your resilience.
youtube
Resilience or grit is your determination to keep going. Everyday challenges add up and they become heavy burdens. The baggage gets heavier and more awkward to carry.
If you are like I was I just could not magically ‘let it go – stop thinking – relax’ I kept searching answers and discovered this ridiculously simple technique to help guide you. You have everything skill you need inside you already, you just have to find it.
You have probably mastered most pieces of life’s puzzle and yet some elude you – money, partner, job security, kids, mortgage, or enough superannuation, or what ever is missing.
Self-help is not selfish, it’s a gift. You can self calm or you can self harm.
It’s a gift to become calmer. Organised yet flexible. Laugh more. Find the pieces of your puzzle. You show your kids by example and not by words. Do you ask ‘do I look fat in this’, say things likes like a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips. I am terrible at saving money. I am not worthy yet I want someone to love me.
Accept what you can’t change and change what you can.
On any flight you are told to that when the oxygen mask drops from the ceiling to help yourself before helping others. Only you can help yourself and be the change you want.
Join me to help you find your calm, conquer your chaos and discover acceptance. How to really and truly be in the present. Find out what makes you happier, more fulfilled and with calmness you can conquer your chaos.
Resilience is something you learn and if you practice it day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute and breathe by breathe you will become calmer. You have the ability within you to build resilience and you have come to the right place, so welcome and follow the links to discover your resilience.

Life is too serious to take too seriously
This could be one of the most serious messages you get but have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously.
youtube
Confused yet?
If you are like me, I take everything too seriously and found out the hard way that I was not perfect, I could have everything but not all at once, I made mistakes, I am a mother but also learning on the job without a job description.
My kids didn’t come with an instruction manual either. Or maybe I left that at the hospital in all the chaos of dealing with a new born, feeding, hormones, nappy changing and to top it off the haze and confusion due to lack of sleep.
My kids are now teenagers and some days I think I have everything under control yet chaos enters my world and I realise that the only control I have is how I react and if I want the situation to be different I have to change the way i view the situation. The only influence I have is me, my thoughts and most important are my feelings.
How I feel greatly effects how I react or respond.
Do I curl up in the corner in the fatal position blubbering? Or look at the situation for what it is and not what I ‘think’ it is?
There is so much more I want to share with you. Check out the link below to find your calm and discover the world of possibilities so that you can have the cake, enjoy it, laugh about it and not take life or yourself too seriously.
This is fun, it will make you smile and you will laugh at how ridiculously simple yet effective my first aid calm technique.
Check out the link and have a super awesome day

Conquering your chaos by building your resilience
Life is full of changes and challenges and the more resilient you are determines your ability to bounce back and manage coping with the ups and downs of life. Being stretched allows you to grow and be more accepting of change.
youtube
Resilience or grit helps us deal with stressful situations, crisis, trauma, death and adversity. It is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity. This is important because it is how you behave and act during the crisis and chaos as well as how you view the event after is what matters.
Have you felt stretched and unable to cope under pressure? We all face challenges daily and our ability to get through them strengthens you or brings you to your knees.
A simple explanation of resilience means bouncing back after an adversity. Through dealing with adversity, problems and setbacks it develops your resilienceand ability to cope with certain situations.
The dictionary states that resilience is a way of describing the quality of something that goes back to it’s original form after it has been bent or stretched.
Once you have learnt something you can’t unlearn it. After you have been through a traumatic experience you are changed and can’t undo the experience. Once a rubber band is stretch it never goes back to its original form, it is stretched and expanded.
Life is full of changes and challenges and the more resilient you are determines your ability to bounce back and manage coping with the ups and downs of life. Being stretched allows you to grow and be more accepting of change.
Resilience helps us deal with stressful situations, crisis, trauma, death and adversity. It is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity. This is important because it is how you behave and act during the crisis and chaos as well as how you view the event after is what matters.
Have you felt stretched and unable to cope under pressure? We all face challenges daily and our ability to get through them strengthens you or brings you to your knees?
What can seem like mild stress one day can easily escalate when situations are compounded and stacked one on top of each other. Also what might seem like mild pressure to someone can seem extreme to another person.
Resilience is about maintaining flexibility and balance in your life as you deal with the chaos. Find your calm, conquer your chaos.

Celebrate Small Successes
Tumblr media
On a typical day I sat down to make a few calls, a few I had been putting off because I knew it would take a few minutes to either chat or navigate around the menu, push 1 for this option, 2 for this option etc. The first call was to the dentist to book a clean, we confirmed a date and time and I wrote this down.
I don’t know about you but I forget if I don’t write it down then I stress about trying to remember it. I write everything down as it enforces it in my brain. Especially goals, if you write them down you are more likely to achieve them as you set your intentions.
youtube
Before I had even hung up I moved straight to my next item on my ‘to do’ list. Call medical insurance because they denied a claim for my daughter which I knew I was entitled to.
It had been a long process which I won’t bore you with but let’s just say, 3 dental opinions, general anaesthetic procedure, braces, poor kid with sore teeth for two weeks, bills, anaesthetist, hospital fees, medicare and this was the final piece at the end of all this drama.
After entering all my details and navigating through the phone automation, I was finally chatting to a real person and once I had explained everything this was his actual response “Sorry but we only looked at the first line of the form and that item was not claimable so we stopped, denied your whole claim, and didn’t look at the next item.” Sincere apology, the refund will be in your account tomorrow.
As he was saying this I had mentally ticked this off my ‘to do’ list and was already thinking of my next call.
Wait.
Stop.
Congratulate myself on small successes. This is my ridiculously simple technique.
Stop thinking. Take one deep breathe. Smile. That is it and it only takes seconds. Not minutes or hours.
So in between calls I celebrated. Dentist booked. Medical claim finally complete and a refund, happy dance.
Stop. Breathe. Smile.
Join me to find out how this can mathematically and scientifically be explained with the chaos theory. One small change right now, radically changes the outcome. The effect might appear random and insignificant and yet it creates order out of chaos.
Its ridiculously simple and that’s the best part. It takes no effort, is so simple yet extremely effective.
You can concentrate much better on the next call. Feel accomplished and have you laughing at how ridiculously simple your calm cue is to help you find your calm and conquer your chaos. Check out this link.

Get out of your head - Stress, Anxiety and Chaos
Tumblr media
The famous scientist Albert Einstein, knew a thing or two and spent his lifetime trying to understand the workings of the world. He explored science, physics, astronomy and spirituality and left school at an early age because he didn’t fit into the student mould as set out by his teachers.
He said, The basic laws of the universe are simple, but because our senses are limited, we can’t grasp them. There is a pattern in creation.
There is an order to the chaos. We only see a tree but there is more to a tree including its roots and the oxygen it generates. Flowers a beautiful and smell sweetand they are there for the bees to pollinate other plants.
Albert said, Out of clutter, find simplicity, from discord, find harmony.
In the middle of difficulty lies opportunities.
youtube
Many times Einstein would make a quote that was related to his work, but it also could be applied to other areas of life in general.
He also said, No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.
So try something new.
Look at a situation from a different angle.
Walk away and sleep on the solution instead of simply doing the same thing expecting a different result.
A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.
This final quote is one of my favourites as I am constantly learning, reading and trying to figure out what my life purpose is and how I can be of service and I see little miracle every day.
There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though everything is a miracle.
So try something new now and discover that there is calm to be found in any chaos. There is order to chaos and you can stop the chaos or at least manage yourself in the midst of chaos.

LOA Why You Need to Let It Go
Tumblr media
This week I was asked a great question and I got inspired to share my view on the LOA. Keep focusing on your desire and when to let it go.
Question:
I just saw 'Law of attraction' on the side bar of your blog page and I’m yet to read your posts about it. I have been dying to ask somebody a question regarding LOA without sounding delusional to the sceptics. Just wondering your thoughts on this one because I’m beyond confused with all the information I have read. Everyone says to focus on your desire with intense feeling until you get it, but others say ask, believe- LET GO, and then receive. I have tried the letting go part and it does work but which is it supposed to be? Any ideas?
Answer:
That is actually a great question and one I tried and tried to feel and get my head around. My thoughts are:
The LOA is about focusing on what you want and not what you don’t have.
When you focus on what you want you create a desire to have it.
You need to focus on the feeling of already having what you desire which is where the 'let it go' comes in because otherwise you create doubt. What I mean is that when you only focus on what you want you probably attach feelings to it from a place of not having it. And then when your desire doesn't show up you keep focusing on 'why me, what is wrong, the LOA doesn’t work, every time I ask for something it doesn't show up' and the doubt intensifies.
When you know for sure that you want the desire, you need the desire, it will show up, only then will you have no doubts, then the desire will show up.
Ask.
Believe you already have it.
Each day feel the feeling of already having it.
Let it go so your doubt can't creep in.
Receive, be open to the opportunity for it to show up.
Life is all about the journey to get your desire and not the destination. When you only focus on the end result you miss the present moment and the energy to create in the NOW.
Let go of the end result and enjoy the opportunities that are around you when you are aware and open. This helps to cement your desire and make you really want it or tweak your desire.
Check out my other blogs about the Law of Attraction

How do I breathe to get Calm
Tumblr media
How do I breathe to get Calm
Breathing is something that we do naturally and yet so many of us are doing it wrong. Consciously breathing is certainly NOT a high priority on busy people’s radar. You might not even be aware of your breathe until you are exercising.
I have even read that it is a new age practice. Correct me if I am wrong but breathing is critical to every human being and should be done not just daily but all the time.
There are circular breathing techniques, counting while you breathe in and holding your breath before exhaling, sleep techniques, the win hof method, transformation breathing, holotropic breathwork and the list goes on. The apple watch has a circular breathing graphic. Calm app has a breathing button too.
There are so many benefits to discovering how breathing properly can help you. My technique is not to be underestimated as just simply breathing. It is a technique I have spent 10 years figuring out and is a combination of a number of modalities combined to make it your first aid technique to use when you are stress, anxious or depressed.
My technique might seem ridiculously easy yet all I have done is made it sound so simple that you will want to do it a few times a day because it feels so good and the benefits can be felt immediately and long term.
A google search gave me this result “Breathwork is a general term used to describe any type of therapy that utilizes breathing exercises to improve mental, physical, and spiritual health”
The benefits of doing breathing exercises are:
Lower heart rate
Lowers high blood pressure
Relieves stress
Reduces tension
Increased your oxygen supply
Relaxing and calming
Self healing
Emotional stability
Brakes the chaos of your thoughts by giving your brain something to focus on other than your worries
I am not claiming any of these health benefits, my intention is to share what works for me and I encourage you to do your own research and discovery.
This is my calm technique:
Stop - Stop thinking
Breath - Take one deep breathe
Smile - Smile one positive thought
To even try and stop thinking is nearly impossible so I shift my focus to my diaphragm.
Place your right hand at the bottom of your left ribs. This anchors your intent to breathe deeply. Your hand anchors positive beliefs.
Breathe in deeply and fill your lungs and stomach. Slow deep breaths.
When you breathe consciously you mind stops racing and overthinking as you are giving it a task to do.
Check out this video where I demonstrate how to use my #calmcue First Aid breathing technique.

Do coincidences really exist? Do they?
Tumblr media
I don't think anything is random. Sometimes you have to look back at all the events leading up to the coincidence and realise that everything happened for a reason.
You made choices along the way to get where you were for the coincidence to show up.
You can analyse it till the cows come home but sometimes you just have to go with the flow and jump at every opportunity that is in front of you.
You might not know where it will take you but if it feels right then jump. Of course, if it feels wrong then that is your warning system and you should listen.
I will share with you a string of events that lead me to having my first article published in a magazine.
It was a normal weekend towards the end of last year and I was flicking through a local magazine, you know the general, what happening around town magazine that gets thrown on your driveway. I was sitting in bed having a coffee and wondering what to do and also relishing the fact that there was nothing scheduled, no where to be, no sporting event to run the kids to etc. You know the joys of being a parent and some weekends it’s unrelenting.
I saw an ad for the mind, body, spirit festival and it happened to be on today. My husband said I should go. You see I wasn't feeling in a happy place so it was probably a message of 'go and enjoy yourself' mixed with 'I know you will be happier when you get back after a few hours away'.
The decision was made in the spur of the moment and to be honest I probably could not race out the house quick enough for some 'me' time. The festival was only a few minutes away which was also an added bonus.
Within 5 minutes of arriving there was a guided meditation starting. My first reaction was that I wanted to jump in and see the festival, all the stalls and soak up the atmosphere.
There was something about the way the lady at the front desk told me about the meditation and I made the decision that it was probably best for me to relax, find some calm and clear my thoughts. Half an hour later my energy had completely changed and I was not only calm but probably the calmest I had been in weeks.
I wandered around the brightly coloured stall, sampled the wonderful food, smelt the incense and plucked up the courage to talk about my second book Free to be me that I was days away from finished.
At one of the stalls I met Sharon Rowland, the editor of the Oddities e-Club Magazine. I mentioned my book Free to be me and she offered to review it. I was over the moon. It still took me a further couple of months before the book was ready for release but I remembered to send it to Sharon.
Little did I know that I would be invited to write an article for the magazine and contribute more stories.
I am pleased to share with you the latest edition for you to check out https://www.magloft.com/app/oddities and their website www.odditieseclub.com
So had I not read the local magazine, or mentioned the festival, or been pushed (in a loving way) to go, or talked to Sharon, then this would never have happened. So you decide, do coincidences really exist or was this just a string of events that lead me to the right place at the right time?

Tips to Calm Down and De-Stress with Calming Music
Tumblr media
Tips to Calm Down and De-Stress with Calming Music
I was inspired to write this based on my experience yesterday. After yet another terrible night’s sleep I found myself wandering round in a daze and my head was spinning with confusion. Most of the time I sleep ok now that I have a few strategies in place and incase you haven’t read it here is my blog on how I cured my insomnia.
I used to sleep well until a few years ago I suffered under a huge amount of stress and despite the stress being over it still plagues me. It has taken me years to reflect on why, how and what I am doing to self-sabotage myself with my sleep patterns.
My main cause is over thinking which I am sure most of you can relate to. I will wake in the early hours and start thinking of an unresolved issue, awkward conversation or what I have to do today. It’s just plain exhausting and after a few nights of restless sleep it really catches up on me and I am beyond exhausted.
One strategy that works for me is chanting. There are so many sayings to chant that I definitely don’t want to overwhelm you but share some of my favourites. Some of these will resonate with you right away and others will probably send your brain into more chaos. So songs you like to listen to over and over again and some you only like when you are in a certain mental state.
For example calming music is of course awesome for calming you, however, when you are inspired and in flow and have a deadline to meet you will probably want very upbeat lively music. Of course you would not listen to loud beating wake up music just before you go to sleep. The same is true first thing in the morning, the last music you would pick would be sad slow sleepy music when you are getting ready for work because it would probably make you want to jump right back into bed and not face the day.
My solution yesterday to my foggy brain was to sit quietly and ‘try’ and meditate. I say try because I have learnt to recognise that when I am in this state it is almost impossible to stop thinking and actually get out of my head. My to-do-list seems to grow 10 fold when I am in the chaos state and the more I try and relax the more I want to add to my list. So my meditation went something like this:
Find a quiet warm spot where I was not going to be disturbed for half an hour.
Set an alarm for the desired time and that allows my brain to relax a little knowing that I am giving myself this precious time and also that I will still have plenty of time to get up and keep going about my day.
Have a pen and paper handy and right in front of me. When I have an idea or remember more to add to my to-do-list I can scribble it down and this then allows me to know I won’t forget it and therefore I can put it out of my mind for now.
Problems keep arising when I am in this state and I don’t get cross with myself which causes more stress and confusion. I allow the thoughts to rise, write it down and then send the thought floating away in a pink balloon.
Listen to chanting music.
The biggest tip and trick I really want to share with you is how I calm my monkey mind down with chanting.
If you are an A-type personality like me then just doing one task at a time if not enough. I just can’t do it. Trying to meditate and only focus on my breathing gives my mind plenty of opportunity to get bored and wander off back onto the track of all my chaos. Just telling myself to stop thinking is impossible!
Chanting gives my mind something to do. Breathing deeply gives my body something to do. When I sync my chants to my breathing and another key point I want to share is that I breathe into my heart. This is one of the most powerful tips you can do. Try it… When you brain waves and heart energy is connected you will find an inner calm. The rhythm is like slow dancing to your favourite song, it is effortless to slowly sway in time to the beat of the music and it is very relaxing and calming.
There are times I really love guided meditations and yet as I said before sometimes it’s the wrong time of the day and I get frustrated listening and it is not resonating with me. Other times I only want music with no words at all and other times white noise and nature soothe me.
In summary
Now that I am familiar with these chants I will repeat one phrase over and over in the early hours of the morning and now I go back to sleep within minutes. Without these chants I would lie awake for hours as I just could not turn my brain off. I don’t get upset with myself for waking, I just breathe and chant.
Try all different ways to relax before you go to bed
Vary the music and chants you listen to depending on your mood and the time of the day

My Vision Board Worked
Tumblr media
I started working for an international medical company and learnt that each year they awarded a first class, all expenses paid trip to the top 12 sales people and one other lucky recipient. To win the prize you had to smash your sales targets.
The one other recipient was someone who can complete their job above and beyond what was expected. It was voted for by peers and the directors. I decided that it would be a dream come true if I won. I set the intention (to win this award) and wrote the goal down on a piece of paper that I taped behind the headboard of my bed and then I moved on. I didn’t dwell on it, I didn’t get upset that it wasn’t coming true, I just set the intent and forgot it.
I continued working the best I could for a year and a half. I enjoyed the annual overseas trips from Australia to Paris and the Netherlands to attend meetings. I travelled around Australia, sometimes flying into a city, working for a few hours and then flying home. It was an extreme goal as there were 10,000 employees all eligible for the one prize.
One morning I woke up and checked my phone to find 10 missed calls and messages from my boss wanting to speak to me urgently. I called her back worried that something may be wrong and we needed to ship out a medical device for a patient urgently.
Thankfully I was wrong. My manager quickly said Hi to me and then said “hang on a minute” and She hands the phone over to the President of our company who is in a room full of our staff from all over the world. He introduces himself and explains the setting they are in and then he proceeded to tell me that I Had Won the Award.
I couldn’t believe it.
I was so shocked.
I was happy.
I was excited.
I was honoured to have received this award from all of the staff around the world.
I was screaming (once I got off the phone).
I won the trip for my husband and I to go to the Caribbean.
I few days after I had taken the phone call and the joy of the trip and the reality of what I had just achieved had sunk in, I remembered about the goal I had written down and showed my husband the piece of paper. I had not told him about it in case he laughed or hadn’t taken me seriously. I also wanted to show him that when you have a dream that is huge there is nothing you can do to control the outcome you have to trust in the process that the universe has lined this up for me.
The ‘how’ was taken care of. Yes I took action daily by not just turning up to work but going above and beyond what was expected of me. The reward was mind blowing. It involved a 10 day trip to LA, Miami and Antigua. Cocktail parties, private boat trips, zip lining in a rain forest, jet skiing and business class flights and five star accommodation. (Feeling very special). We had one free night, which happened to be our wedding anniversary and we celebrated it in style with a romantic private dinner on the beach. We had a meeting with the chef prior and he had arrange the special 3 course meal just for us. The meal included cocktails, wine and our own waiter. Best of all, it didn’t cost us a cent.
Months prior to winning the trip I had also put a picture on our vision board. The picture was at sunset, a table at the end of a pier, candles and table cloth to show it was a 6 star experience. A romantic dinner for two in an ideal tropical location. Presto – I was living it! Two dreams came true at the same time.
My vision board worked – jump over to the Facebook page and let me know what’s on your vision board and when one of your visions came true.

See New Things
Tumblr media
Eckhart Tolle’s new book is titled A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. I saw him on Oprah and decided to read the book to see what the buzz was all about.
Quite a lot of my friends have the book, but haven’t yet read it because they find it too much of an effort to plough through. I had already started to write this book and got stuck. I didn’t feel I had enough information about how to use signs and why I felt it was so important to have a visual reminder to stay focussed. I was fortunate to be flying to New Zealand alone for a long weekend to celebrate my father’s 70th birthday and was getting excited about having several hours to myself to read and not be interrupted, disturbed or needed for mother or wife duties. I started reading the book and was instantly hooked. I was organised with highlighters, pencil and page markers and absorbed myself with what he was saying.
Tumblr media
The first page simply sang out to me because of the silent sermon that Buddha gave about a flower. Therefore I am dedicating a whole chapter of my book to his book, to tell you the messages I got from it, because what I learnt had such a profound effect on me. I finally got what my life’s purpose is: to write this book, to get this message across to as many people as possible. I hope to affect your life in a positive way to help you. So this chapter is a summary of Eckhart’s book in the hope that you read and learn from it too.
I want to simplify his messages and encourage you to read his books, and many others including the Bible, to help you be happy and find your luck. But that is just some of my purpose. My purpose is also to enjoy every moment of every day. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow has not yet appeared, but I am here, right now, writing this and you are here, right now, reading this. That is the point. I finally understood what all the books I had read were saying. My heart is pounding while I write this because I can’t type fast enough to say how excited I am about how I found my enlightenment.
Tumblr media
I have been searching for more than 20 years, and suddenly it hit me like a bolt of lightning. Even now, I need to remind myself daily to be happy, because I need to give myself the time to contemplate and be in touch with my spirit. Buddha used the lotus flower, and the dove signifies the Holy Spirit in Christianity. Visually reminding ourselves every day is awakening.
Your sign is your own personal signpost to shift your focus and attention. It really is hard to see the wood for the trees. In order to see what’s in front of you, you need to stop looking at the forest and start trying different angles. In the forest there are trees, grass, flowers, birds, insects, leaves, sunlight and space. That is a small list of what you can see if you look. Now imagine what you can’t see. The roots of the trees underground that allow them to grow, worms to aerate the soil, ants, ladybirds and spiders, or even caterpillars just waiting to be butterflies! Simply changing where you stand to see the forest allows your mind to see it differently. What would the forest look like from above?
Tumblr media
By running through this exercise, you can start to think outside the box. Then you can stop letting your emotions, vision and preconceived perceptions dictate your reality. Create a space that opens your mind and heart to see and feel more. The original voice in your head which told you what to think when you see the forest is now not entirely accurate. There is more to the forest that you imagine when you take the time to stop, look and feel it. The same can be said about what we think we are; Eckhart says, “The voice in my head is not who I am”. I am encouraging you to realise that you are more than the labels you have given yourself. Seeing who you are not is part of realising who you are.
Even Buddha said, “Life isn’t as serious as my mind makes it out to be”. Stop and see the trees. Try and enjoy “just being”, and remember that “just being” must be felt and not thought. We are our conscious mind and our subconscious mind. Dreams help resolve the conflict between the ego and consciousness. We are our egos, I and me at the same time. We are living our own reality. What we are living right now is our experience; how we interpret and feel about it will affect how we react and feel. Practice enjoying reading this. Smile. Breathe in and out four times.
Look around you and find something beautiful to look at. Look to your left, look right, look up, look down. I rented one of the worst rooms in a bedsit in London once. I had a room with two single beds and found myself with a Spanish roommate. We shared a kitchen with another bedroom that was occupied by an Italian girl. The whole floor shared a communal bathroom. There were rooms within rooms, behind doors and down a large corridor. Floor after floor of rooms full of strangers. The rent was cheap for London prices, but it really was depressing and dismal.
The owner would come in and go through our belongings and my roommate had her heater confiscated, which left us cold in the winter. The reason I share this story is because if I was reading this chapter and looking around that room, the most miserable place on the coldest of days, I would struggle to see anything good. I understand how dark surroundings can be depressing, and yet I have very fond memories of laughing a lot there, and chatting till the early hours in broken Spanish and Italian. The bright side of life was my roommates and not the surroundings.
I got a night job as well as a day job and saved even harder to get out of there, but that was the experience I needed at the time. Had I realised then what I know now, I would have stuck the biggest, brightest, blue butterfly at the foot my bed as a reminder to stay focused—a visual reminder to look on the bright side.

Are You Emotionally Stressed
Tumblr media
Every time you think or feel an emotion, it has an effect on your body and your body releases chemicals. When you feel happy your brain creates serotonin, dopamine or oxytocin. When you are stressed your body releases cortisol.
These chemicals make your body react in different ways either positively or negatively. In reality, there is not actually a positive or negative, only your perception of it! When you understand this, then you will realise you have a choice about how you feel or react. Our perception of an experience is everything and yet the first step is accepting the situation as it is and how you feel.
The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. This might just be a play on words but the word “loneliness” was created to express the pain of being alone, and the word “solitude” to express the glory of being alone. Is it a play on words or more about how you perceive them? Don’t try to understand everything. Sometimes it is not meant to be understood, just accepted.
This is exactly why I try and look at the positive in everything. The difficulties in life are intended to make us better, not bitter. Emotions and experiences are energy and your body processes and stores them. This can make you healthy or sick. Your body is connected to your mind, you can have destructive thoughts, and this creates bad feelings.
Tumblr media
When you feel happier you give off that vibe and your body feels happier. Is it “your sign finding you” or “you finding you sign”? Does it matter how your sign finds you? No! Some days I wear butterfly jewellery just so I know I am surrounded and protected. Other times I see butterflies as tattoos or stickers on cars.
No matter where I encounter my sign, I consider it as important in some way. I have butterfly stickers on by bathroom mirror. Some days I just don’t notice them. Looking for your sign or seeing it is the same thing and either way it doesn’t matter. Encountering your sign is always a positive thing.
Do you feel lost and confused?
Are you constantly second guessing yourself?

Dealing With Adversity
Tumblr media
Rainbows are my second sign:
I am fascinated by how they appear and I think they are the most beautiful spectacle nature has to offer. Rainbows are in fact very simple; they are just a case of optics. In basic terms, we don’t see the white light that goes into a prism yet we can see the rainbow at the other end.
Tumblr media
In a similar fashion, perspective works for us. What we put into our subconscious reflects who we are. You can look at a glass and call it half full or half empty; it contains the same amount of water. I want you to view yourself, life, love and nature differently. Shit happens; how are you going to deal with it? The author of the following tale is unknown, but it is a provoking story that will hopefully make you think about how you react when adversity knocks on your door.
Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? A young woman went to her mother and complained about how hard her life was. It seemed as if as soon as one problem was solved a new one arose. She said that she did not know how she was going to continue and just wanted to give up: she was tired of fighting and struggling. Her mother took her to the kitchen. Her mother filled three pots with water: in the first she placed carrots; in the second she placed eggs; in the last she placed ground coffee beans.
Tumblr media
She put all three pots on the stove and let them come to a boil without saying a word. About twenty minutes later, she turned off the burners. She fished out the carrots and put them in a bowl. Then she carefully lifted out the eggs and placed them in another bowl. Finally she ladled the coffee into a third bowl. Turning to her daughter, she said, “Tell me what you see”. “Carrots, eggs, and coffee”, she replied, monosyllabically. The mother asked her to feel the carrots, which she did, noting they felt soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it. As the daughter took off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg inside. Finally, the mother asked her to sip the coffee and the daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, “So, what’s the point, mother?”
Her mother explained that each item had faced the same adversity—boiling water— but each reacted differently.
The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting, but after being subjected to the boiling water, became soft and weak.
The egg, that had once been fragile and runny inside the shell, had now hardened as a result of the boiling water.
The ground coffee beans were unique, however: they thrived in the situation and worked to change the water, not themselves.
“Which are you?” she asked her daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?”
Think about yourself, both how you are normally and how you react to challenges:
Are you the carrot that seems hard, but wilts and softens in the face of adversity? You appear as a weaker version of what you once were, a limp character without any strength.
Are you the egg, which starts off fluid, but hardens as a result of the difficulties faced; perhaps a death, a breakup, a divorce, or a layoff? Your shell looks the same, but your spirit and heart have toughened.
Or are you like the coffee bean and thrive in the face of adversity? If you are like the bean, you excel and flourish when things are at their worst and you actively work to make things around you better.
Put simply, things happen to us that we can’t control. But how we react to the situation will determine our level of happiness. Change sometimes feels like being on a rollercoaster. The ups and downs can make you quite sick and some days make you want to scream “Get me off”.
Life just doesn’t let you off though, but when things calm down, like the ride finishing, you can reflect on what you learnt. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.
The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can’t go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
“I am a coffee bean”. That is my current mantra. It is easy for people and books to say “don’t stress” or “go with the flow and great things will come”, but sometimes it’s impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. That’s why we need to work on staying positive and motivated. Zig Ziglar astutely said, “Motivation doesn’t last. Bathing doesn’t either. That’s why I recommend it daily”.
Do you feel lost and confused?
Are you constantly second guessing yourself?
Lack self-confidence and self-esteem?
Do you have no patience and snap at the kids?
Does your heart race and beat so loud and yet you can’t explain why?

Snakes and Ladders
Tumblr media
Life’s a game. When you realise that, you can see it is entirely up to you how you choose to play and what character you will be.
Any game should be played with integrity and honesty to fully enjoy it, just try and have fun along the way and really live life. One fabulous weekend away staying with friends, the most amazing conversation started at about 9.30pm. We openly discussed our late teens and early twenties and what we would have done differently if we had had the knowledge we have now. Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing, but the light-hearted, story-telling conversation quickly turned into a deep discussion about how we can help and influence our own children with the knowledge we have gained.
Our journeys through life have taught us valuable lessons and our experiences have shaped us into who we are today. No amount of teaching can prepare us for living through the real events. Consider the jobs we have as teenagers, for example. I won a supermarket scanning competition; I had to stand on the stage, greet the customer, scan the groceries, exchange money and give correct change as well as pack the groceries correctly to ensure nothing got squashed or broken.
Another friend had won the Golden Spatula from McDonalds for greeting, ordering and packing the drive-through orders correctly. It was a bit of silly fun which was appropriate for teenagers, and we enjoyed being recognised as a great employee. It’s interesting how these seemingly trivial things shaped our views and inspired us to greater things.
It’s impossible to measure how important these events are as we can’t go back and undo them; they are intrinsically embedded in our fabric and they help shape our perspectives and goals for the future. There are lessons and obstacles in life that we parents can’t teach our children, but we can try to prepare them to deal with the ups and downs life will throw at them. During the conversation we discussed whether life should be difficult or easy—how much of what we did was influenced by rebelling against our parents or by learning the hard way. We were not trying to decide who was right or wrong, but rather, just trying to understand how we have achieved things and how we might teach our children to aspire to be happy and successful.
Tumblr media
Two hours later we had still not solved the world’s problems, and I went to bed thinking it all over. It was very early in the morning when I realised we were all climbing different ladders, like the Snakes and Ladders game. You probably played it as a child; I still play it now with my kids. If life is just a game, then imagine it is one giant game of Snakes and Ladders. You roll the dice a few times to get going, and slowly but surely, step-by-step you start moving forward.
Everything is fine for a few turns and then the game starts. You feel pretty good until your next roll brings you to a snake’s head and you tumble all the way down to its tail. You feel you have gone back several steps to where you were previously: one step forward, two steps back. It’s our ability to overcome these setbacks that is important. When you are on the back foot and the others in the game seem so much further ahead of you, do you give up or keep on rolling and hope that you catch back up to them? As it’s only a game and we were taught not to be sore losers, we continue to play.
Then, as we move forward again, we see our competitors start to slide, allowing us to catch up again. The other half of the game is the ladders. Suddenly we roll the right number and land on a ladder that shoots us up higher and faster than we thought possible, right past the other players.
Now we feel great! It’s just a game, but life is like that. If you land on a snake and slide down, treat it as a learning curve. See opportunities along the way and climb the ladders of life. We have all rolled the dice to the elusive six that landed us on a huge ladder and boy it felt great. We’ve all played with team members who seem to always be lucky, but wouldn’t it be nice if you were the lucky one?
You can be responsible for your own fate based on how you feel.
Do you feel lost and confused?
Are you constantly second guessing yourself?
Lack self-confidence and self-esteem?
Do you have no patience and snap at the kids?
Does your heart race and beat so loud and yet you can’t explain why?
Mental heaviness weighting you down making you exhausted?
Not sleeping well and constantly tired and foggy?
Constantly helping others and racing around but have no time or energy for yourself?
Feel guilty all the time and out of control?
