chanon and pom keep missing opportunities to see each other.

chanon knows of pom working as a teacher (i believed in you, always), he knows of pom working with the director (this is not what we fought for, pom), he knows and he knows and yet he's not seen him.

you see, 14 years is a long time to forget someone. forget the way they smile. forget the way they bunch their shoulders up before bursting into a fit of laughter. the way their eyes glint under the harsh sunlight. the way their knees feel brushing against yours when you're crammed in a booth together.

chanon had forgotten him once, just a hollow chamber in his heart where pom used to reside. chanon remembers everything with stark clarity, now. all of pom's memories tinted with the betrayal, the understanding despite it all, the disappointment inspite of all his muddled emotions clenched inside his fist.

they keep missing opportunities to find each other. to meet each other. chanon knows that if he lingered outside the door for a second longer, if he took a wrong turn when he visits the school over and over, he'd see pom again.

chanon doesn't know what he'd do if he saw pom again.

fate has a funny way of thrusting chanon in situations he is not prepared for.

he sees him in a grocery store, of all places.

he looks older now, his jaw is a little sharper, his shoulders, a lot broader.

suddenly, chanon is 15 again, sitting on the cold tiled floor with a boy who makes him feel like the world can fit between their tightly held hands, forever and ever.

chanon's world narrows down to this: the ugly, fluorescent lights of the grocery shop, tired eyes meeting chanon's before widening in recognition, the sharp hitch of pom's breath heard even against the rapidly quietening hustles of everything around them, the pen that chanon had gifted still (still!) holding a place in pom's pocket above his heart, pom–moving in chanon's direction until he stands just a breath away, pom–stretching his arm as though he wants to touch chanon's cheek, pom–clenching his fist to his side, his eyes filling up with tears that chanon feels brimming in his eyes.

chanon thinks about shrugging him off, about feigning the fact that he doesn't remember him at all, about simply turning away and walking. his mouth, however, seems to have a mind of his own.

He tries to soften Wave's heart by pouting his best. Since the other boy makes a visible effort to ignore him, he has stuck his face as close as possible, almost between Wave and the screen (not quite, because Pang still has some survival instincts and knows better to obstruct his sight of his laptop). So when Wave turns his head to ask him something, Pang's lips are right here, at one breath of his own. Wave counts the kisses between them, until he can't count anymore (it's Pang's fault).

Chanon blinks at him. He breathes out, and it’s louder than he wants to be. Schools should never be quiet, he thinks, as he searches for footsteps down the hallway, laughter in the class one room over, shouts from the grounds - and finds nothing. It’s eerily silent, even if it was only the Gifted Class XV that was sent home. Chanon can still see their faces in front of his eyes, mumbling their tired goodbyes and see you in two weeks to each other, backpacks slung over their shoulders as they rubbed at the black circles underneath their eyes.

“What do you mean?” he asks, barely trusting his own voice.

In the wake of the aftermath, Chanon and Pom try to figure out who they are and what to mean to each other, after all these years and a chance at a new life with one another.

Just for a second, we get to see this plane fly, just because of the way it was built, from what we understand of physics. I think, in the same way, we’re transitory. Our lives are just one of the Earth’s long breaths, and then we give out. A friendship sparks into life and sizzles out after a while."

Chanon moves in with Pom after everything, unable to put the feelings that he has carried his entire life for him into words. But then Pom propositions him with an offer he can't refuse.

(Or: Chanon and Pom have sex to feel a little less lonely, a little more held. Somewhere along the way, the love they hold for each other becomes too big to keep locked away in their hearts.)

Wave and pang are so gay just like. so gay

its not even the Point. its not even Important. except it kind of is.

like? its a thai drama so theoretically if they’d wanted a bl couple they Would have made one. 

but at the same time like. Pang/Wave are literally the parallel to Claire/Punn. Narratively their scenes parallel each other, their breakup is for the same reasons, the scenes the pairs are in mirror each other, the scenes both pairs are in are Because pangwave is paralleling clairepunn. 

like we definitely have duo and trio friendships in the plot paralleling each other which are all worth noting. for SURE, we have: Ohm, Pang, Namtaan and Grace, Third, Time and Supot, Yuth, Nate. We have some duo pairs paralleling each other through the generations - primarily Chanon/Pom and Pang/Wave, but also Yuth/Supot once Nate is sick. (and there’s a whole case on its own to be made about what the fuck Chanon and Pom are and their entire relationship with its complications and tragedies).

ClairePunn is used in the storyline to parallel PangWave though. That’s a big storytelling point in all of season 2 the Gifted Graduation. Pang ultimately leaves behind his ‘trio’ he started with in his generation of friends, and long term in the story becomes primarily associated with his partnering with Wave. 

Wave is THE line for Pang. The line at which point Pang would be willing to abandon his morals and beliefs, sacrifice the other things he cares about. We get hinting that Wave will be the LINE all the way back in season 1, when Pang purposely tries to form a partnership with Wave already knowing he and Wave do not 100% agree and cooperating is Still worth the benefits to Pang. This is notable because in prior relationships, Pang generally does not compromise on any of his morals/ways of doing things and instead tends to take the lead and try to convince others to support him. 

Many times in the show characters push Pang’s limits, trying to get him to break and give up, or things just falling apart around him. None of those times succeeds, until its Wave’s life on the line. That is the breaking point, the line, the limit at which Pang is pushed enough to give up on the other things he values (or at least prioritize Wave more). Its very much like Kirk in Search for Spock being willing to give up his career and the Enterprise itself (which he’d been established to refuse to ever give up prior) if it meant helping Spock’s soul. Pang’s partner Wave is his line. (Oh the KirkSpock parallels).

Why are they so gay? why am i not shutting up about it. oh because the biggest media parallel i’d jump to with mutant partners who rely on each other would be Professor X/Magneto. But Professor X’s line (generally - i haven’t read every comic) is not necessarily Magneto, or vice versa. Generally, while the homoerotic magnetism and initial shared goal for the future is there, the teamwork partnership is there, in the end both of their morals are not things they will ever compromise on (At least in the old and certainly in the new X-men movies). Unlike Professor X, well it looks like Pang does value his partner more than his morals. 

Pang loves Wave so much.

It would be interesting to explore if the vice versa is true, in a way. Because I think Wave would have been willing to die before surrender to Supot - its just Pang won’t ever let them choose a plan where Wave dies. But if Pang was the one dying, would Wave pick Pang over their goals? I think Wave would, considering the way he loves his friends, and how that love clearly started with getting close to Pang and them trusting each other. I think Wave values his loved ones surviving mattering more to him than his goals. Or at minimum, I think Wave’s determination to win long term would allow him to be willing to surrender in the short term to save lives he cared about, even if he didn’t give up his goals long term. This is all personal opinion, because we don’t know what Wave would choose. But he did willingly choose to take the virus and presumably he thought ‘if it kills me its worth it’ to help Pang and see Pang. Wave trusts Pang so much he thinks Pang would continue to pursue their goals even if he dies, he thinks dying for Pang is worth it because he cares about Pang himself so much just being safe. Its probably safe to say Wave loves Pang enough to die for him specifically, regardless of if their goals could be pursued or not.

So Wave sure does love Pang a lot too. 

I just. If you want homoerotic mutant partners in love going to the ultimate limit to save each other over even their ideals, Pangwave sure is it.

Please give me the director's cut commentary on "All the stars of the sky come to rest in your hands" because honestly... The fic. Gorgeous. It actually was so engaging and interesting to me I read it before I finished the Gifted. IN FACT I then gobbled up the series as fast as I could so I could go back and read it again knowing whomst everyone was.

So please your mind ..... How did you come up with the idea? What drew you to the pairing (besides they're clearly in love!!) Tell me all the things 👀👀👀

how I come up with the idea - it's in fact a conjunction of a lot of elements.

I spoke a bit in the notes that I miss drinking with my friends (a staple during my student years, clearly), so a lot of the interactions before the stargazing is heavily inspired by that (at the exception of the yearning - it was just Chanon being himself).

For all the part about Chanon being an astronaut, it comes from these fics https://archiveofourown.org/works/26314498 and https://archiveofourown.org/works/28590429 (both of them being true masterpieces), and the stargazing from this one https://archiveofourown.org/works/29924757 (I'm in love with this one too).

Also I started curating a playlist before writing the fic, starry nights and memories, and it drove my writing a lot (I love making playlists for my fic, but it's more for me to have a background when I write, I find that it easier for me to express feelings? It's why I always say I work with vibe more than a plot, because I know what I want the story to express, but I have no idea what it will happen in it except like a first picture (and again, it's not granted)).

So the playlist was a first step, and after the idea to go for a last day on Earth/ no potential UA... I don't exactly remember. I think I was playing with what would happen without potential - an version of the story where everyone is normal and kinda happy. So of course Chanon is an astronaut in this version of the story (even if working in IT is not so bad Non) and Pom is still a teacher, because it was his dream. And of course they need a moment softly dramatic to stop their pining, because they are, softly dramatic I mean - so yes, the last day on Earth (for like 6 months, but, do I need to say it again, dramatic).

What drew me to the pairing - Like you say, they're clearly in love: one is ready to give up his dream and his life and even his memories for the other, while the other erase his own mind to not live without him (okay it's guilt too, but yeah, I'm pretty sure it's love). And after that, them in tgg? They're husbands, I can't believe anything else.

Also the fandom around them! Okay it's small, but everyone is so lovely and talented - so many beautiful gifsets like x, x and x, pretty, and fics!

Finally - I just think they're neat.
