Chuang Tzu

There is a beautiful story about Chuang Tzu, a great mystic of China. One morning, sitting in his bed, he looked very sad. His disciples had never seen him so sad. And never after waking up had he remained in his bed, sitting. What had happened? Was he sick? They gathered around and asked him, “Master, what is the matter?” He said, “The matter is really difficult, I cannot solve it; perhaps you may be of some help. I will tell you what is the matter. In the night I dreamed that I had become a butterfly, and I was moving from one flower to another flower.” The disciples said, “This is nothing to be sad about. In dreams we all do strange things; and this is not a bad thing, to be a butterfly – colorful, beautiful, moving from one juicy flower to another juicy flower. Why are you so worried?” He said, “You have not heard the whole thing. The problem is, now I am awake and I am wondering whether Chuang Tzu dreamed that he is a butterfly, or now the butterfly has gone to sleep and is dreaming she is Chuang Tzu.” Both are possible. If Chuang Tzu can dream that he is a butterfly, what can’t a butterfly dream that she is a Chuang Tzu? The disciples remained silent; there was no answer to it. Chuang Tzu was pointing towards a certain phenomenon that all religions have been teaching – that everything is a dream. The butterfly is a dream, Chuang Tzu is a dream. Then what is real? The real is far away. And in this dream, don’t get disturbed. Whether you are a camel, or a donkey, or a monkey – it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you accept it without any resentment so that you can reach one day the real world of God.

Ho parlato di questo Tarocco e di quello che ci vuole comunicare, proprio questa settimana con un paio di amiche. L'Imperatore Chang Tzu sogna di essere una farfalla tutte le notti, tanto da arrivare a chiedersi se non sia una farfalla che sogna di essere un imperatore. In realtà è entrambi, Imperatore e Farfalla, esattamente come noi siamo sia spiriti che esseri umani. Il benessere nasce dal giusto equilibrio fra le parti. Entrambe cercano la realizzazione in questa esistenza. Stare bene nello Spirito permette di stare bene nella Materia, che non significa che diventerai milionario. Significa che avrai quello che ti serve per sentirti appagato e nell'abbondanza. Per alcuni sarà l'appartamento di proprietà, per altri una casa in affitto e per qualcuno un camper con cui girare il mondo. Ogni Spirito ha una sua storia, che influenza l'indole del corpo in cui vive. Ascoltati, e saprai cosa significa per te divenire un Imperatore/Farfalla. Between We and I is an idea for a dialogue between myself and Iris Changtzu to continue a synesthetic correspondence begun in our improvisation collaboration with Yifeat Ziv, Joseph Johnson and Kyrin Chen.

In an agreed timeframe, one of us will starting by making a sound / drawing / sculpture etc (or even something that shows a natural occurrence like the pattern of lavender dropped on a page) which will then be interpreted in synesthetic correspondence i.e. a sound goes from aural to visual in a drawing or visual to haptic in sculpture.

‘[A] proposed definition, dialogically means that human expressions are in interrelationships with other’s expressions: any single expression, such as a spoken utterance, a written text, a thought (even if not yet exteriorized) is a reply to other’s utterances, texts or ideas […]

Nella vita è tutto scritto? Assolutamente no! Ci sono alcuni momenti che sono stati stabiliti come incontri o avvenimenti fondamentali, ma la maggioranza delle nostre azioni sono decise da noi, con tutte le conseguenze che ne derivano. Secondo alcune tradizioni, Chang Tzu, ritratto nel Sei di Pentacoli, chiede a Dio di andare in battaglia e Dio lo accontenta, ma viene ferito a morte (ben lontano da quello che lui si immaginava succedesse). Mentre è in agonia chiede a Dio il perché e Dio gli risponde: "Perché lo hai voluto tu". Quindi, caro lettore, sii cosciente del fatto che tutte le tue scelte avranno delle conseguenze, nel bene e nel male. Chang Tzu ha terminato la sua esistenza terrena. Ricorda che per il tuo Spirito quello che stai vivendo ora è solo un frammento di una esperienza millenaria. Lui, se cambia corpo, problemi non se ne fa.
