History of Finance in India
The Evolution of Financial Management in India and Its Impact on the Economy
India’s financial management history is a fascinating journey that has significantly shaped its economy. Let’s explore this evolution in simple terms.
Early Beginnings
Financial management in India has ancient roots. Historically, India was known for its rich in nature trade and commerce. Ancient texts like the Arthashastra, written by Chanakya, provide insights into early financial practices, including taxation and statecraft.
Colonial Era
The British colonial period brought significant changes. The establishment of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Kolkata 1935 marked a pivotal moment. The RBI became the sole central authority for regulating the country’s currency and credit systems. However, the financial system was primarily designed to serve colonial interests, focusing on trade and revenue and tax collection.
Post-Independence Reforms
After gaining independence in 1947, India faced the challenge of building a robust financial system. The government nationalized 13 major banks in 1969 to ensure financial inclusion and support economic development. This move aimed to extend banking services to rural areas and promote savings and investments.
Liberalization in the 1990s
The 1991 marked a turning point with economic liberalization. The government introduced reforms to open up the economy, reduce state control, and encourage private sector participation. The Multi National Companies across the globe were invited, encouraged to set up their businesses in India for cheap labour. To initiate this government also provided tax benefits to these companies.
These reforms led to significant growth in the financial sector. The stock market expanded, and new financial instruments like mutual funds and insurance products became popular. The liberalization era also saw the establishment of regulatory bodies like the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to oversee the capital markets.
Digital Revolution
In recent years, digital technology has revolutionized financial management in India. Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana aimed to provide banking services to every household. The introduction of UPI or Unified Interface payments made transaction so quick and safe that today India is the largest country with the most number of online P2P and P2M transactions.
Impact on the Economy
The evolution of financial management has had a profound impact on the Indian economy:
Economic Growth: Financial reforms have fueled economic growth by attracting investments and promoting entrepreneurship.
Financial Inclusion: Nationalization of banks and digital initiatives have improved financial inclusion. The number of users of credit cards, online payments, loans and Bank account holders has increased significantly.
Stability and Regulation: The establishment of regulatory bodies like the RBI and SEBI has ensured stability and transparency in the financial system.
Innovation: The digital revolution has spurred innovation in financial services. Mobile Banking, Digital loans and Online Serices has made the work easier and efficient.
Conclusion
The history of financial management in India is a story of transformation and resilience. From ancient practices to modern digital innovations, each phase has contributed to shaping the economy. As India continues to evolve, its financial system will play a crucial role in driving sustainable growth and development.

MileApo in the Associated Press article on Dior's collection!! They were one of the few stars highlighted in the article.
(courtesy of AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool)
In case you aren't familiar with how AP works, it's one of the oldest English press syndicates in the world. The stories are distributed to members, U.S. newspapers and broadcasters with the exact same text and content so dozens of press junkets run the same story with the same photos!!
What is fashion? On Dior Fall 2023's Gateway to India collection
I also wanted to take a moment to share some of the pieces from the show, which once Elle India shared them, I was like ...oh... this is actually a good collection. (Kim Jones needs to stop being allowed to dress MA)
First of all, some important context from the AP article:
Dior has had a long association with India through the Mumbai-based atelier Chanakya, which works with artisans and underprivileged women.
“I personally wanted to celebrate and showcase the incredible knowledge India offers to the international world of fashion in the field of embroidery, the mastery of the artisans who continue to work on this craft, and the commitment of Chanakya’s founders to preserving India’s history and culture, portrayed by each embroidery technique,” [Dior women's creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri] said in an Instagram post.
(courtesy of AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool)
There's this brilliant post detailing one of the dresses, the Peacock Dress, from colonial Britain that had thousands of detailed sequins and embroidery made by expert dressmakers in India who were never given credit for their work. The style and couture expertise of these Indian dressmakers who were subjugated to colonialism was stolen and claimed as British culture.
recently [Cathy Hay] been more outspoken of the fact that British colonisation really enables these wealthy western Europeans to wear gowns that almost look impossibly beautiful, but rightful credit was of course never given to the people who made it [...] I always wonder about the craftsmen behind so much of history's most beautiful art. They're never named because the one who commissions the work, the patron, is usually given all the undue credit.
I think it's obvious I don't love (Kim Jones') Dior, but what collaborations like these do is elevate Indian fashion and couture expertise beyond the level of cultural fashion to high fashion, as something worth celebrating for its luxury and specific vision and a rightful label that was stolen from them by British colonialism.
And by using Indian models -- of a variety of skintones that reflect the diverse population of India -- and also naming and openly celebrating the atelier Chanakya and its dress makers, it gives an opportunity for Indian fashion and dressmakers to share their specific vision of fashion as ART with the world.
Is it still branded under Dior? Sure, but Dior is the vehicle that facilitates this publicity. It's so important that Chiuri highlighted Chanakya as a collaborator driving this collection with their vision. And it gives this atelier and other Indian designers an opportunity carve out names for themselves that might mean eventually their own brand is the highlight. Don't forget that Marc Jacobs led Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford led YSL and Gucci before their own brands became big enough.
This isn't a restorative justice, it doesn't right any wrongs, but a way to create opportunities for people who were always a driving force of fashion. It's economic opportunity. And it's art. So there is still a place for fashion in the world.
Check out the entire runway collection on HypeBeast here.
Now back to our regular MileApo programming.

Why Ancient Indian Literatures are Extinct today?
Ancient Indian Literatures were high even before few hundred years ago but now except few university courses under UGC India and some foreign enthusiasts in University of Michigan or University of Heidelberg etc, general students avoid reading those old articles.
Argument of this topic is why Indian students or their parents are not suggesting Indian Ancient History or Ancient literature as a career in today’s world?
If we go back to those beautiful pastimes of Indian education, from 3600 plus years ago, almost all great courses in Art, Literature, Science, Philosophy etc, were being taught only in Indian Universities.
Taxila or Takshashila University
Mithila University
Telhara University
Sharada Peeth Temple University
Nalanda University
Vallabhi University
Pushpagiri University
Odantapuri University
Vikramshila University
Sompura University
Bikrampur University
Morena Golden Triangle University
Kanthalloor Sala University
Jagaddala University and so on…
Some Indian scholars in Mathematics were Aryabhatta, Baudhayan, Brahmgupta, Bhaskaracharya, Mahaviracharya. Some famous scientists were Kanaad, Varahamihir, Nagarjuna. Medical Science was also highly developed in ancient India. It is hard to name all of them. Based on my minor research I have only few names as below.
“Sushruta Samahita” on Principles of Surgery and Medicine – by Sushruta, 100 BCE.
“Aryabhattiyam” on Principles of Astrophysics - by Aryabhatta, 476 CE
“Artha Sasthra” on Commerce & Business Administrations – by Chanakya, 375 BCE
“Pancha Sidhanta” on Treatises on Astronomy – by Varahamihir, 505 CE
“Patanjalayoga Sastra” on Principles of Yoga – by Patanjali, 2BCE
“Charaka Samahita” on Principles of Aayurveda – by Charaka, 200 BCE
“Rasendra Mangalam” on Science of Alchemy – by Nagarjuna, 150 CE
“Vaiseshik Dashan” on Principles of Atomic Theory – by Kanaad, 6 BCE
“MahajyanayanaPrakara” on Principles of Calculus – by Madhava, 1340 CE
When ancient Indian sages discovered that the great details on Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Philosophy, Astronomy, Health, Linguistics etc., were all there in Vedas which were that time in the form of “Shruti” which were only in the form of “what was being heard” from early Sages, they converted them into “Smriti” which were nothing but story telling or narrations of Vedas. This is to make things easy for the readers with more explanations on each branch of studies. Also, to make Vedas easy for the readers, ancient sages have concluded almost all details in texts distinguishing each part of Vedas (they are – Samahitas , Aranyakas and Brahmanas) for easy understanding.
Those great maestros (ancient Sages) not only have left these great treasures for the future generations but also tried in multiple ways to distribute that precious knowledge into various education systems in terms of texts, narrations, debate, explanations from past times (The Puranas) and conclusions (The Siddhantas) through help of Kings.
It is on us to consider this premium knowledge still available in various forms or reject it and again keep hunting for the remakes in more cosmetic and customized way. The irony of remakes is most of times the core values and ideologies would dissolve in versions.
Happy Reading….

INDIES TOP 111 HINDI TELEVISION SERIALS OF ALL TIME!
INDIES TOP 111 HINDI TELEVISION SERIALS OF ALL TIME!
Of a time when Indian television, in its nascent stages, in it's first decade as a independent entertainment platform, format & medium, extending itself beyond the 3/4th century old Indian cinema tradition, was able to maintain a storyboard soul structure, alongside it’s much heralded beautiful traditional rich deeply cultured exposition of drama, all whilst giving voice to longer more patient more marinated forms of storytelling within its fold.
Till the new millennia & the few yrs just preceding, that is, (barring a very few modern exceptions, decent enough to mingle with the greats, & included herein), with its commercially driven sloth in keeping the beating of the dead horse on, till viewers & makers themselves lost all sense of carriage, motion, plan, direction, or vision, birthed a collective numbing & dumbing down of societal viewership consciousness, in front of our very eyes – a veritable genetic mutation of sorts of collective taste, just like that.
So here we are at Indies - remembering the old glorious normal, for pleasure & posterity - & for our future generations deserve to have a semblance of sense of our once golden cultural humanity. For no generation, howsoever materially satiated, can thrive w/o deeper hope !
Of our blessed past. And the latent magical shelter of it's proficiently fulfilling, heart-tugging narrative. 🙏

[ad_1] RevSportz and Tata Steel (PC: RevSportz) There can be no better day than Diwali/Kali puja to make this announcement. I am delighted to say that Tata Steel and RevSportz will continue to be partners going forward, and the 2025 edition of the Trailblazers Conclave, presented by Tata Steel, will now be a two-and-a-half-day affair between March 6-8, 2025. One of the fundamental pillars of this collaboration has been our emphasis on multi-sport coverage. To support Indian Olympic and Paralympic sport and tell the stories which will inspire the coming generations. Cover events on ground, and create forums for dialogue between all stakeholders of sport, including athletes, policy makers and administrators. At the conclave, which is by far India’s biggest and best sports forum, we have had athletes from across the spectrum come and talk to us. Also, it is a forum where athletes and policy makers talk to each other, something that is hardly seen in the ecosystem. Take the case of Manu Bhaker. She was at a low ebb in 2023 when we invited her. At RevSportz, we have always stood by athletes when they need it more, and I remember Manu asking Abhinav Bindra a question on how to deal with adversity. Now, Manu is a double Olympic medallist and the narrative is different. But, in 2023, it was fascinating to hear Abhinav speak to her about dealing with challenges and not getting overawed. Our two other key areas of interest are women’s empowerment and paralympic sport. In para sport, India has turned a new leaf by winning 29 medals in Paris, and the chances are that we could make it to the top 10 in the medal table at Los Angeles 2028. The important thing is to make sure that the momentum is sustained. That we don’t forget our para athletes, and wake up only two years from now, ahead of the Asian Para Games in Japan. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here RevSportz Trailblazer (PC: RevSportz) To do so, we have decided to invite a number of our champions to the conclave, and also possible stars of the future, to interact with each other and tell us their stories of adversity and triumph. Each of these athletes has a story full of life lessons that we all stand to learn a lot from. A number of India’s leading Paralympic athletes and medallists like Sumit Antil, Harvinder Singh, Navdeep Singh, Yogesh Kathunia, Nishad Kumar and Manasi Joshi have already confirmed their participation. As it happens, 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of International Women’s Day, and it is only fitting that we celebrate women’s empowerment on March 8, 2025. Paris was the first gender-equal games and it is time every other sports event takes strides towards becoming so. The support from Tata Steel will help us make the conclave even bigger, and further help us in making a tangible difference to the Indian sports ecosystem. In fact, I still remember my first interaction with Mr TV Narendran, MD, Tata Steel, three years ago. I was on the verge of setting up RevSportz (we complete three years on December 1), and had reached out to him for support. His first question was whether I was keen on supporting Indian Olympic and Paralympic sport. Since then, the partnership has only grown stronger, and the work done speaks for itself. Here is to more stories and more meaningful work. A sincere thank you to Mr Narendran, Mr Chanakya Chaudhary, Mr Sarvesh Kumar and everyone at Tata Steel for the support.
