hello hello~~~ it’s lunar new years. To me it’s a super special day, because it’s a day to start out on a new slate, as well as honor the dead. I drew Steven in a traditional outfit that we would wear on this day.

Saeyoung and Saeran being pokemon trainers who start late, Jumin being the Steven Stone of a pokemon AU, Zen being into pokemon musicals and contests, Jaehee running a pokemon cafe-
Pokemon AUs live rent free in my head-
You're right and you should say it, anon!!
They have to start late but that's okay, they can travel with Yoosung. He isn't the best trainer, but he makes excellent Pokeblocks, Poffins, and Poke Puffs!
I could see the twins becoming coordinators, since Saeyoung is flashy and eccentric, and Saeran prefers the emphasis on beauty & skill instead of just knocking your opponent out. Plus, when your evil dad is the Champion, it's hard to register for the Pokemon League without risking your safety....
I could see V as an archaeologist in like, Sinnoh. We know he loves digging up secrets and investigating! But he could also be a photographer who works for a professor. Who do you think gets all those crisp photos for the Pokedex?
Rika... Would she rule the region's evil team? Or is she a case like N, who's not actually evil but being manipulated into thinking she's doing the right thing?
All I know is that Unknown, specifically, kins Silver and he's not ready for that discussion.

So like, how would you succinctly describe how you interpret/write Ghost?
To elaborate on what I said here, I keep several qualities in mind when writing Ghost.
They are an experienced traveler. We don’t know how long they spent beyond the kingdom, but, they are recognized as a kindred spirit by people who are very experienced or traveled despite seemingly being fairly young, or at least in a kind of undead-child-limbo state where their years haven’t affected them much.
Their body language is very orderly and composed. They are not incapable of making mistakes, or struggling or failing- if anything they are likely used to this- but the implications of the Shade system suggests that they hold themselves to a high standard and that failure weighs heavily on their mind.
While this is more personal headcanon than anything, I feel like they would be sparing with any form of communication available to them. It isn’t merely that they’re silenced by lacking a voice- they also seem to be quite a taciturn and stoic soul by preference.
(I kinda like to think that if they were in a situation where they were talking using some workaround or another, the result would come off a bit like Garnet from Steven Universe- brusque, authoritative, not mincing words, and even potentially rude or cutting, but more warm and verbose around people they are closer to)
They are relatively young, or again, in a kind of limbo that means the passage of time hasn’t brought age. They doze off easily if left on the benches. There are things they haven’t experienced and a kind of innocence to their curiosity for the world. I can see them, subtly, having a streak of those kids who perceive themselves as extremely mature and wise but then... they can have some fun splashing around the hot spring.
Understated but very present is that Ghost definitely has an angry streak and a hunger to prove themselves. They don’t care so much about petty reputation (they don’t seem inclined to do much to attack or punish Zote when he lies about them to Bretta) but are drawn to try and prove themselves in the eye of the Hunter, or in the Colosseum of Fools. Even very early on, when Elderbug cautions them about the numerous dangers of Hallownest, the overall trajectory of the game suggests they don’t pay him terribly much mind, or meet it with a kind of ‘challenge accepted’. And again, the Shade system suggests Ghost takes failure very harshly- believing they can’t afford to fail or should be above it or, likely, a complex tangle of sentiments.
They can certainly have something of a haughty and cold streak that rears its head towards certain people- they don’t seem to hate Zote but they don’t think much of smacking him around in the Colosseum, either, to say nothing of their less than reverent treatment of PK’s body or Millibelle.
At the same time, though, it is hard not to see them as very motivated by loyalty to those they love, and interpersonal curiosity. Your only option in the game to leave Zote for dead happens before you talk to him- so, basically, as long as Ghost has listened to him even once, they don’t want him to die. They follow Hornet into Greenpath the moment they spot her. The cutscene in the City of Tears, with the slow pan up Hollow’s statue and the image of it “weeping”, as well as the way that almost the first thing we see in-game is Hollow screaming in pain, the boss title of the Lost Kin, and even the shift from judgmental (“False Knight”) to compassionate/tragic (“Failed Champion”) when Ghost realizes that he was trying to protect the other maggots.
To pull this all to a central thesis: Ghost is a complex bundle of emotions kept under a heavy lid. Young, brittle, lonely; haughty, proud, and vicious- curious, compassionate, and earnest. Reserved, superficially proper, they seem to have a strong self-identity as a knight (I’ve talked before about how the game’s noncanon prototype has Ghost address the player directly in a way that seems to illuminate their thinking for the main game).
They also seem genuinely curious about history. Quirrel and Lemm have a lot of dialogue, and while Lemm is an optional encounter, the text for the Void Idol is given by him, and not from a conversation Ghost and Lemm have ‘in canon’ which would imply Ghost visits and listens to him more than we are necessarily shown in-game. Many characters also make sidelong comments into Ghost’s inquisitive nature and their desire to ‘dig deeper’. (visit the Snail Shaman after obtaining Desolate Dive, for example)
In a more trivial sense, I operate on the read that the first half of the Hunter’s Journal entries reflect Ghost’s perspective, while the second half can be attributed to someone else, usually the Hunter- and the tone of those entries further seems to betray Ghost’s thought process. They have several habits that rear their head in those entries:
They are curious about weapons and consider them important. They note the relative uncommonness of great nails, consider Ogrim skilled (and his white defender form, gallant) and despite disrespecting Zote, note that he seems to have made his weapon himself and the name he calls it by.
They are very interested in knights and orders thereof, as can be noted in both Ogrim’s entries and the city guard.
Highly motivated by their siblings- they seem to be the one who name the Sibling enemies (Hunter’s entry suggests he has never seen them himself), and the Broken Vessel / Lost Kin, not to mention acquiring the Abyssal Shriek by using Howling Wraiths to ‘give voice’ to stone faces in the abyss.

How does one become a gym leader or elite four member and what sort of duties do these positions involve aside from battling?
When it comes to gym leaders, the process usually begins with a recommendation from either a current gym leader/Elite Four member or a high-ranking member of the Pokémon Association (the international governing body that oversees the leagues—and yes, the champion is typically one of these members by default). Why a candidate might receive a recommendation tends to vary pretty wildly. Some gym leaders elect their own kin (such as in the cases of Lavaridge, Violet, and Fuchsia), while others choose trainers who impress them (as in the case of Petalburg or Lumiose). In rare cases, the Association recommends winners of local tournaments (Viridian, Veilstone) or unofficial gym leaders who defeat local gym leaders (Saffron).
Regardless of the reason, once elected, the candidate is then subjected to a test administrated by Association officials in the form of a battle. Should the candidate pass (i.e., win), they’re given official gym status and placement in their regional league. (Side note: There are many, many unofficial gyms out there. Anyone can open a place, call it a gym, and make a badge to go with it, but non-sanctioned gyms don’t count towards league requirements and often don’t follow league rules. It’s therefore not a good idea to challenge these gyms.)
Once sanctioned, a gym leader may serve a number of functions in their community, depending on that community’s needs and the gym leader’s abilities. Many gym leaders serve as teachers and offer classes on pokémon care, battling, or related local customs to local trainers and trainers-to-be. Others support their town or city’s law enforcement and/or public safety offices, and most gym leaders serve key roles in their area’s tournaments and festivals. Ultimately, all gym leaders are public figures and role models, and as such, they are, in general, expected to act on their best behaviors to serve as examples to their communities.
Of course, this is in addition to other, personal duties. Many gym leaders hold second jobs, not so much because the Association doesn’t pay them enough—believe me, the majority of them get paid more than I do as an Association member—but more because it’s something to do when they’re not maintaining a gym. The Unovan gym leaders, for example, consist of a fine artist, a museum curator, three restaurateurs, a teacher, a pilot, a model, and the owner of Unova’s largest construction company. For another example, one Kantonian gym leader runs a perfume company, two others are researchers, one is in medical school, one is still technically active in the American military, and the Cerulean Sisters apparently fancy themselves as “water ballet performers” … not that I have anything to say about that last one. The point here is that although a gym leader’s primary duties consist of maintaining a gym, battling, and serving in their community, this isn’t as hefty a list of tasks as one would think, and gym leaders are free to do whatever they wish in their spare time (within reason, given the aforementioned note about being a public figure).
The Elite Four is very similar to the above, but the requirements, both in becoming one and in performing as one, are more. For starters, it’s not possible to be recommended by a gym leader for a position in the Elite Four; candidates can only be chosen and recommended by high-ranking members of the Pokémon Association or Symposium. (To give you an idea of how high we’re talking about, I can’t recommend someone for membership into the Elite Four, but Steven Stone or Professor Kukui can.) The exam that follows is often harder than the one administered to gym leaders, and it often consists of battling four of the region’s topmost trainers (that is, the current Elite Four in most cases). And finally, while gym leaders are expected to serve their specific communities, the Elite Four is expected to serve their entire region. This means that if, for example, a threat to the entire region surfaces (to the scale of the Hoenn Incident a few years back), usually, the Elite Four is called into action to help the regional government with defense. Usually, anyway. As in, we don’t normally send single preteens out to battle the forces of nature, but for whatever reason, that’s been a trend as of late, which means the Elite Four has been called upon fewer and fewer times.
Besides that, Elite Four members are often asked to engage in regional events (such as the exhibition matches that typically take place before championship tournaments such as the Silver or Lumiose Conferences), teach new trainers whenever possible, and generally maintain their reputations as upstanding members of society. It’s just that as highly public figures, maintaining a certain public image is even more important to the Elite Four than it is to gym leaders, and oftentimes, it’s actually easier to be kicked out of the Elite Four due to violating the Association’s standards of conduct than it is to be kicked off the badge circuit. (I realize that sounds rather ghastly, but it’s important to keep in mind that the Elite Four are also the faces of their respective league. Any misconduct from them is a direct reflection on their region as a whole. It’s politics, in other words, only the leagues tend to take things a bit more seriously than actual politicians.)
Of course, as with gym leaders, the Elite Four (and champion, for that matter) can also opt to take second jobs, especially since they’re often called into action fewer times than gym leaders are. For example, it’s completely possible for Siebold of Kalos to run more than one high-ranked restaurant in Lumiose or Diantha to star in at least one feature film a year because, well, aside from the occasional challenger to the Elite Four gauntlet, the Kalos League rarely requires the services of its Elite Four.
In short, if you’re considering joining either group, anonymous, best of luck, but consider beginning with the gym circuit first. Impressing a gym leader enough to get a recommendation is far easier than impressing an Association member.
