this time its splatoon and love, ghostie! its only been a little bit but i love this game so much already im hoping it gets more popular so i can see more fanart of it ^v^
i want to get more comfortable posting doodles and stuff without feeling like i need to polish them too much... in general i just want to post more of my stuff without worrying about quality. so im doing that now! ☆
explaining the designs under cut:
for calathea i knew immidiatly i had to make her a leaf sheep, for obvious reasons. ive actually never drawn them before but it was vrry fun :3 i kept her dress mostly the same, and added a scarf meant to mimic the leafs she has in her original design. i also gave her some sandals, one of those really practical and outdoorsy sandals idk sandal terminology. btw im not very good at scale so i mightve made one of them too tall or short compared to eachother if so that wasnt intentional
for chamel, i made them a mimic octopus to mimic(heh) the fact they like to dress up and pretend to be someone else! i decided to make their hair like a long slicked back braid that ends in a swirl to sorta look like their tail. i imagine it can curl up like marina's tentacles. i also stuck to the original outfit but modified the dress to be shorter and added the skirt you can wear in splatoon instead. also added the lil devil horns °w° also i made their skintone the same as their og color, i figured its ok since that guy in wet floor has turqoise skin too. for some reason the color is vastly different on my ipad than my pc/phone idk why. only that color too
maybe ill redesign them more properly one day, with more unique outfits and stuff but i like this

My Personal Love, Ghostie Ship Ranking
I have spent an obscene amount of time and brainpower on this game so now it’s your problem.
I should clarify that what I’m ranking here are more the relationship stories as they were written than every couple’s actual potential as a ship. Because they all have potential. The game wouldn’t work otherwise! All of these ships have plenty of cute factor, there is not a neurotypical brain in this manor so all the ships are nd4nd and thus a little bit peak automatically, and most of all, these are all basically good people with the capacity to recognize and work on their flaws for the person they love – so yes, all of these ships could work excellently. It’s just that the developers had to write 66 of these little vignettes so they’re not all going to be winners and they’re not all going to show off these couples at their best. And of course, even then, what counts as “at their best” is my personal opinion!
Anyway, here goes! I'm going up from least favorite to favorite (and don't worry, most of it is under a Read More).
66. Gerard/Mina – I’ll get this out of the way: Gerard is my least favorite character. Most of the time I love emo sadboys! But Gerard specifically is just such an asshole about it, and he’s at his absolute nastiest here. Mina makes a completely reasonable request of him, to not scream his head off in the middle of the night, and in response he plays a really mean prank on her and justifies it by saying she was suppressing his right to express himself. And they make up! Let it be stated before we go any further that they always make up and that’s wonderful! I just hate that it acts like Mina was at all in the wrong here.
65. Sky/Ollin – Now, surprisingly, I don’t dislike Ollin as much as Gerard. I think he’s a nice, quirky guy who was just raised kind of weirdly. At the same time, though, there is a big concentration of Ollin at the very bottom because when he’s bad, he’s really bad. He’s just absolutely condescending to Sky here. “I worry about other people judging you” is such a patronizing thing to say, and Sky is just too nice to react as angrily to this as it deserves. I also don’t like this story because it subjects me to the mental image of Sky’s feet sweating inside plastic bags.
64. Felix/Ollin – I adore Felix and his wonderful, interesting, unique brain, and I love how patient everyone in the manor is with his quirks and the misunderstandings they cause. Ollin is the only one who is not patient. Not only does he lose his cool with him (and post a list of grievances on his door??) but he actually makes Felix feel stupid and self-conscious. Unacceptable.
63. Felix/Wobbles – Okay yes so I was just saying how much I love Felix, but in this one, he is too stupid. He is cartoonishly stupid, like unable to care for himself stupid, and it feels like an extreme that’s out of character for him. Wobbles feels like a home care worker more than a girlfriend. And maybe that’s an inherent issue with the two of them, that Wobbles is too nurturing and Felix doesn’t deserve a partner who will coddle him, but I mostly chalk it up to the writing in this story.
62. Gerard/Chamel – Gerard is the absolute worst throughout this one. He’s relentless. Even into the epilogue, he’s still trying to snoop on Chamel’s room and their secrets. And as sincere as I feel he is when he says “You look beautiful even without the cosplay!” it still feels smarmy. What saves this from being dead last is that him offering to do a cosplay of Chamel so they can see what he sees is actually a really sweet and clever solution.
61. Noir/Ollin – As a goody-two-shoes who would die of anxiety before I ever did a minor crime like sneaking into a movie, this story just stresses me out too much. Like, I can’t even rewatch it like I have been for all the others, that’s how bad it is. And it’s an absolute shame, because these two fancy-pants fashionistas should have been perfect for each other. Noir just does this thing sometimes where she forces people to do things they’re uncomfortable with, and for some reason they decided she should do that to Ollin when they should have just bonded over expensive clothes. I can get behind the disguises but not the doing crimes together.
60. Apollo/Ollin – The little prince actually makes Apollo angry, now that is quite a feat! And not a good one! As opposed to some of the lower Ollin pairs, I understand in this case that giving Apollo memorabilia is just his misguided way of showing affection, and he says as much. Somehow, though, after what transpired I don’t quite believe either of them when they say they have feelings for each other.
59. Chamel/Ollin – It comes off more like a business relationship than a romantic one. By the end of it, Ollin is still treating Chamel like a servant, and yeah, they seem enthusiastic about it but I’m not sure being in charge of a prince’s wardrobe is quite the win they think it is.
58. Wobbles/Sky – This one is just the two of them having a bizarre little argument about nothing and it doesn’t paint either of them in the best light, but what I like the least about this one is that it centers around them celebrating their month-a-versary. I’ve always been able to abstract the amount of time these characters have spent around each other, but am I really supposed to believe it’s only been a month? Are all of these stories happening after only a month? I don’t like that tbh.
57. Ami/Calathea – Okay, I’m going to renege on what I said before about all of these couples having the potential to work, because I think this story reveals a fundamental incompatibility between Ami and Calathea. Calathea is extremely finicky and particular, and in concert with Ami’s impulse to try and fix everything, it seems like it would be a disaster waiting to happen. Much like the disaster that actually does happen in this story. I also don’t like the mix of Calathea getting angry on a dime and Ami’s tendency to burst into guilty tears.
56. Noir/Mina – Yet again, Noir is forcing someone to do things that make them uncomfortable. Even though Mina enjoyed herself, she was still embarrassed by the whole experience in the end and Noir really should not have made the picture into a locket. What I do love here, though, is Mina saying she’s excited to be an unstoppable power couple during the epilogue. That’s the dynamic these two should have and it’s why I paired them together in my first playthrough.
55. BEEP0/Noir – Noir’s vengeance is so toothless that it almost just counts as charming teasing. Almost. The fact that BEEP0 is too literal-minded to grasp what she’s trying to do to them does make the meanness seem less awful. I like that she promises to redirect her wrath for BEEP0’s benefit in the end.
54. Apollo/Calathea – I don’t think Apollo is a good match for Calathea, either. Obviously, it’s good to be willing to make concessions and do things out of your comfort zone for your partner, and the fact that they do that is what makes me prefer it to Ami and Calathea. But these two are at such extremes of extraversion and introversion that being quiet and making small talk, respectively, seem to cause them active distress. Add to that how non-confrontational Apollo is while Calathea is energized by argument, and I really don’t think these two are it.
53. BEEP0/Ollin – I am angry about the fact that they are doing the same thing in the Polaroid that I am doing right now. This was the first couple I ever made – not because I loved them, but because I hated Ollin at first and wanted him out of my house. Movie tickets are a lame apology for the offense he caused BEEP0. One thing I do like about this one, though, is the fact that Ollin is sweating nervously in the Polaroid. Obviously he does not share BEEP0’s enthusiasm for shipping, but he’s letting them infodump and that’s the greatest gift he could have given them.
52. Ollin/Mina – Mina using Ollin’s face as a ladder is really funny, although if that’s your impulse when you look at a guy you probably shouldn’t end up dating him. In general, I do really enjoy Mina’s angry energy in this one. Up against Ollin, it’s cathartic. It gets points for both of them making really genuinely sweet gestures at the end.
51. Apollo/Gerard – Can a lover and a hater really get along? I’ll be honest, as a lover it’s something I’ve asked myself many times and I’m not entirely sure the answer is yes. I’m being petty by ranking this low but honestly I think Apollo deserves better.
50. Ami/Gerard – I wanted to rank this one so much lower. It’s definitely the least interesting story in the whole bunch. The entire thing is just one evening when they tried some spicy chips together. It doesn’t give me a read on what their relationship would be like at all, but I guess I can’t say it would be bad? It is funny when they fall down, too.
49. Felix/Mina – As we start getting higher up, we’re going to see a new category of ship where I don’t find anything about the story particularly offensive but at the same time it doesn’t feel specific enough to one or both of the characters. This one is the worst of those. Neither Mina nor Felix give any indication anywhere else that they like anime – and yeah, the point here is that it’s a secret they’re both keeping, but then couldn’t a similar story be told with pretty much any of the characters? And besides, Felix wouldn’t keep it a secret. I think the devs just couldn’t think of anything else these two could have in common and honestly I can’t either.
48. Ami/Ollin – I’m more concerned by the lore implications than taken by the couple.
47. Gerard/Noir – I maintain that Noir has a dark aesthetic but she is NOT emo. She wasn’t emo at the start of this story, at least, but by the end she’s spouting nonsense about “My life feels like it’s raining all the time and I’m at work on a holiday.” She feels like a poser here! She’s posing to get the emo boy to like her! And that is the last thing Noir would actually do! It gets points for the “He/she is really something” that bookends the story, though. I can tell they’re into each other.
46. BEEP0/Felix – Felix has a lot of really sweet moments in this one: taking note of how much BEEP0 loves making their observations, trying to act more elephant for them, hanging out with other machines to learn more about them. I’m just kind of weirded out by the romantic gesture BEEP0 ultimately makes. Making a scientific study of your boyfriend? And only your boyfriend? BEEP0 sweetie, no one is gonna read that book.
45. Ami/Chamel – There’s something transactional about a lot of Chamel’s ships. If they’re not using people for cosplay parts, other people are using them! I just don’t like how Ami keeps breaking the wings and being like “Can you make me another pair?” I still think they’re kind of cute, though.
44. Sky/Ami – I kind of dig the vibes of Sky sitting off on the sidelines while Ami goes nuts like “Look at her go, she’s so cool.” I almost feel like he doesn’t understand why putting the wrong soap in things was a problem in the first place, though.
43. Apollo/BEEP0 – I don’t have a lot to say about this one. It gets points for being a really funny story conceptually, but I don’t necessarily see the chemistry between the couple.
42. Wobbles/Gerard – It’s a really cute concept but it’s one that doesn’t really feel specific to Gerard. Wobbles could have had this same story with anyone and they all would have played along similarly. Maybe how well Gerard does at the scavenger hunt is supposed to indicate that he’s especially perceptive, but that feels like a stretch.
41. Wobbles/Chamel – The way this ends is absolutely lovely. I love the Polaroid of them dressed as each other. There’s just too much secondhand embarrassment before that point (how does Chamel not realize who they’re cosplaying, and why does Wobbles not call them out earlier, aagh it makes me uncomfy). I suppose these two are Secondhand Embarrassment, The Couple, so it makes sense.
40. Gerard/Ollin – Obviously, these are the two worst guys and it starts with them both being nasty to each other, with Ollin being dismissive of Gerard’s tastes and Gerard throwing Ollini’s gifts in the garbage. I really like where it ends up, though! I’m noticing that Ollin has a lot of Polaroids that have him being matchy-matchy with his partner, and this outfit weirdly fits him super well! I enjoy him being a casual T-shirt convert. It’s a cool direction for him to go in!
39. Wobbles/Noir – I think that one of this game’s strengths is that it prioritizes doing activities and enjoying things together as a couple. This makes it a little disappointing to me when a story just emphasizes the vibes of a couple and not what they would do together: Wobbles would be nervous to confess her feelings and Noir would think it’s adorable. It is cute, but I would also call this another instance of Noir forcing someone to do something that discomforts them; she should have just eased Wobbles’s mind and told her she knows and that she likes her back. Why put her through all that?
38. Apollo/Sky – I am also mad that I don’t like this one more. On paper, these two are a great, nerdy pair, and the choice of mystery board games as an activity they can share together is fantastic! But it pisses me off a little because Sky isn’t usually this stupid. I think he’s supposed to be really immersing himself in his character, but it comes off like he’s stupid and blind to social cues. Brought down by the writing and not the couple themselves!
37. BEEP0/Sky – I love the message that you need to have something you do for yourself that you let yourself be bad at. There’s just one problem, and it’s that this is a lesson that Sky teaches his partner in two separate stories, the only real redundancy between any of them, and I don’t think the BEEP0 one sticks the landing quite as well as its twin. I’ll explain more in depth when we get to the other one.
36. Felix/Calathea – I’ll always kind of associate these two with each other because they were the last two characters I met on my first playthrough, but I don’t know how well the story written for them jives with the vision of the two I have in my head. They’re both outdoorsy and they go to a field, but I would have liked to see them do something more active than just looking for a lost shoe.
35. Ami/Noir –I don’t mind Noir losing her temper so much here because a. she did just get smacked in the face by a falling hamster and b. she realizes right away that she’s being too harsh. I like that she recognizes Ami’s “guts and originality” (exact words) – these are the things these two have in common, and I’m glad the game recognized this.
34. Felix/Chamel – I was really unfair to this one in my initial evaluation of it. I said in my intro that there isn’t a neurotypical brain in this manor, which is true, but I didn’t realize it immediately. And because Felix and Chamel are the most obviously neurodivergent characters, I was putting a lot of pressure on them to be the nd4nd couple and was disappointed to find it lacking. For me, nd4nd is all about growing and coping together, and at first it felt like it was mostly just Chamel being the one to make concessions and try to improve. Obviously, this was unfair of me; Felix can’t exactly resolve to have a better memory in the same way Chamel can resolve to stick up for themself, and he’s trying, he really is. I’m still not 100% sold on them as a couple, but I don’t actively dislike it anymore.
33. Ami/Mina – Smol squad! You’d think I’d have the same problem here that I did with Ami/Calathea, yeah? Mina is much more volatile than Calathea, and it still brings Ami to those tears. But the difference is that there’s quite a bit of maturity in how Mina ultimately handles the situation. She recognizes the anger in herself, says “I need some time to cool off,” and decides that they should start over from scratch. I have hope for these two. And, and also… smol!
32. Noir/Calathea – This is another vibes pair, and very similar to Noir/Wobbles in a lot of ways. But I like this better than Noir and Wobbles because despite her nervousness, Calathea brings up the nerve to confess herself, rather than Noir pressuring her. Calathea also brings out an uncharacteristic awkwardness in Noir, which I think is really cute. Unfortunately, I don’t like how them getting together is brought together by a string of bad coincidences.
31. Chamel/Mina – It really is just about grabby claws, isn’t it? Literally just that? I can’t help thinking how lame that is, but I still kind of love what’s done with it. These are two people who are both really preoccupied with how people see them, but they decide to be openly goofy together. That’s good.
30. Apollo/Noir – Yet another Noir ship that’s just her and someone else liking each other and it’s just vibes. I have to give this one the edge because of Apollo being an absolute himbo. Noir calls him “you sweet fool” and that is how this man was born to be referred to.
29. BEEP0/Wobbles – It’s a really cute concept with a lot of moments that are absolute gold, especially the mental image of BEEP0 shoving spaghetti in Wobbles’ face. My issue is that it’s not really that character-specific. They’re both cute and clueless, sure, but they’re far from the only ones in this game who are!
28. Wobbles/Mina – I’m so torn between thinking “I don’t think this is an activity these two should be doing together” and “Hell yeah, girls, fight your limitations together and be determined!” There’s something about their banter that really like.
27. Felix/Gerard – Gerard says some nasty things, as always. But he’s not as nasty as usual, and overall he seems genuinely invested in helping Felix make his own art. It’s sweet how much Felix admires Gerard so much and wants to emulate him! It takes him a few tries but we really get some profound feelings out of him, which is rare and really nice to see.
26. BEEP0/Calathea – This one has the cutest Polaroid, it’s not even close. Once again, this one could have easily had the same issue as Ami/Calathea, especially considering that BEEP0 creates a genuinely dangerous situation for Calathea with the 99% humidity, but they’re so eager to correct their assumptions and even learn to care for themself the way she does. It’s easy to forgive BEEP0 their mistakes and I think Calathea would agree.
25. Apollo/Felix – Rainy day boxes are a pretty corny thing to center a whole story around, but I can’t be too mad. What is this game if not corny? It allows for some emotional vulnerability from both of them; it’s hard to imagine Apollo not being okay, but I like that he can admit that he’s sometimes not okay around Felix.
24. Wobbles/Ollin – Ollin is absolutely right, Wobbles deserves to be lavished in gifts! And not only does he do just that, but he’s understanding when she expresses discomfort with how precious his gifts are. I like Ollin so much better when his way of showing affection is not trying to make his partner act like a prince alongside him but acting like they already are one.
23. Apollo/Ami – I’m surprised this one didn’t dive more into Apollo’s nerdy, scientific interests (and you know what’s weird? Besides Apollo/Sky, none of Apollo’s stories really do this). But I still really like it. Apollo matches Ami’s energy well, in conversation if not in activity level, and the Polaroid is super cute.
22. Sky/Noir – There’s something about a haughty woman like Noir seeing a guy like Sky and being utterly charmed by his loserboy swag that I just love. I like that Sky tries to class things up for her in the Polaroid by wearing a little bowtie over his sweater.
21. Felix/Ami – I’m going to admit that I didn’t really understand Ami until I saw this story. I thought she just made inventions because she has a pathological need to fix things. Now I truly understand that making machines to help people is her way of showing love and affection. After seeing this, it recontextualized how I saw a lot of Ami’s ships, but a lot of them still couldn’t beat this one because of how enthusiastic Felix is about her cool inventions. He likes to look at them, even if he doesn’t understand them!
20. Sky/Calathea – So this isn’t exactly the angle the game approaches this story from (it more frames Sky’s growth as him learning about what’s important to Calathea), but I really like the idea of Sky learning how to take care of plants because I know firsthand how learning how to take care of something else can really turn things around for someone lazy and aimless. I love Calathea here for guiding Sky through that. And yeah, I do like the game’s angle, too. The fact that Sky takes initiative and tries to learn about plants on his own for Calathea’s sake, even while she’s still angry with him? Sky is my favorite character, I like him a lot.
19. Apollo/Mina – I wish this story focused a little more on these two playing dodgeball together instead of the weird trading card thing, because dodgeball is a weirdly perfect activity for them to share. I’m glad that the game even suggests it.
18. Sky/Gerard – This is the one that has the same message as the Sky/BEEP0 story, about letting yourself be bad at things. I think this one works much better than that one for a couple of reasons. For one, this one shows Sky being really concerned for Gerard’s well-being after he hasn’t seen him for a while and gives him the advice out of that concern. With BEEP0, he just made an out of pocket, kind of rude observation about him. Sky’s calm is also a wonderful contrast to Gerard’s emotionality, which BEEP0 doesn’t share.
17. Calathea/Ollin – Symbiosis between a plant that hates bugs and a frog that eats them… yes… I mean, it’s never stated as much that that’s why Ollin is helping, but I get the implication. Ollin is at his absolute best here.
16. Gerard/Calathea – So obviously I tend to like the ships in this game that are totally wholesome and I don’t like the more antagonistic relationships. But there’s a conflict here that really works for me! We already know that Calathea likes being argumentative, and she uses that for good here by reading Gerard for absolute filth and he really does seem to grow as a result of it.
15. Sky/Mina – The Odd Couple dynamic is an obvious one but I go for it every time and it’s executed really well. My favorite thing about this one, though, is when Mina says “I know Sky speak” in the epilogue. She’s made the effort to understand him, that’s really cute!
14. BEEP0/Gerard – Gerard is really soft and gentle here, and so is BEEP0 in turn. I’m realizing as a write this that, as seen with BEEP0 and with Felix, Gerard does have a strength in that he’s patient with people who have genuine problems with understanding his behavior.
13. BEEP0/Mina – This one is tooth-rottingly cute, and I can’t believe I initially docked this one points for Mina not getting angry at all, as if that made it out of character. Loving sweets is also a huge part of Mina’s character, though! These characters are pretty multidimensional, that’s something that makes this game great!
12. Noir/Chamel – Can I just say here how much I love that this game isn’t shy about these animal characters being animals? This one delves into how Noir and Chamel’s insecurities are specific to them being a sheep and a chameleon, and how they both channel those insecurities into their fashion, and I think it’s a lovely connection. Noir is still acting a bit too cool for school at the end and seems genuinely reluctant to do the cosplay with Chamel, but it’s still good that she does have a geeky side; her excitement over the anime shows as much.
11. Apollo/Wobbles – I found this one kind of boring in my first playthrough, so much to the point that I maxed out their relationship on my first playthrough but ended up not committing them and pairing them both with someone else ultimately. But it’s grown on me an awful lot. These two are really similar and kind of perfect for each other in that way, and those plushies are really precious.
10. Chamel/Calathea – Damn they really got me with fake dating to real dating, huh? I have never understood the appeal of that trope before but when it’s done with the right characters? They’re both socially awkward characters who are stressed out by dating and feel more comfortable acting, so it’s really the perfect way to get the two of them together.
9. Calathea/Mina – Now these are crimes I can get behind! They’re both high-strung and nervous about it and it’s really fun and cute. I’m a fan of the character development in Mina going “That’s what I get for helping people!” in the first scene and eventually helping Calathea with her plants unprompted. It’s really lovely.
8. Felix/Noir – This one has the lamest Polaroid, they’re literally just holding hands and standing there. But that aside, I think it’s pretty wonderful Felix is as delightful as he’s ever been and has my favorite line in the whole game (“I read the dictionary! You’re looking very Table of Contents today.”). And as for Noir, I love that, despite it taking her a few tries, she’s really going out on a limb to be vulnerable. It’s similar to Noir/Chamel in a way, but the difference is that she’s not getting angry with Felix first and having to apologize by being heartfelt afterwards. She just realizes organically that Felix is someone she can be fully sincere with.
7. BEEP0/Chamel – I hope it’s come across in this ranking that gender is not an object. Whether a ship is M/F, M/M, F/F, or involves one of the nonbinary characters generally has no impact on how much I like this game’s ships. This is the one and only exception – the fact that this ship involves the two nonbinary characters really enhances it. I’m cis as all hell but even I can recognize the gender exploration subtext of these two people who don’t fit into the gender binary using cosplay to become things they would rather be. It’s lovely.
6. Wobbles/Calathea – I’ve complained a lot about stories that just coast on a couple’s vibes and dn’t offer any activity that they can do together. But this one is just that, and it’s absolutely perfect. Their chemistry is evident from the very beginning and that Polaroid is still one of my favorites. The fact that other stories let us know that these two are particularly inexperienced with dating really paints their awkward excitement around each other in an even sweeter light.
5. Apollo/Chamel – Apollo pulling his own fur out to make Chamel feel better about their shedding might be the sweetest and also the stupidest gesture anyone has made in this game, and it’s wonderful. You know, when I picked my original four tenants, I chose these two because I thought Apollos outgoing nature would do well to bring Chamel out of their shell. I ended up not pairing them together until almost the end, but it turns out I was right from the start!
4. BEEP0/Ami – The trust and the intimacy of BEEP0 letting Ami take them apart! This game is the most sexless romance game I have ever played, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it doesn’t have to change! But I still find myself craving some kind of deeper intimacy between the characters I ship, and this game manages to deliver in the form of an engineer convincing a robot to let her give them a diagnostic test.
3. Sky/Chamel – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, every ship in this game is nd4nd. But this ship in particular is the one that gives me the representation I truly crave! Chamel is too anxious to answer the door. Sky is too lazy (which I choose to read as a symptom of depression) to answer the door. So they resolve to open the door together. Sky in particular is so gentle helping Chamel with their anxiety. I really love it. And I love him.
2. Felix/Sky – It’s only second place but it’s absolutely peak, don’t get it twisted. It’s very much a “birds of a feather” ship, and I love that their story starts with them already having hit it off, because duh, of course they would have. I also appreciate the fact that Felix was raised by polar bears so they share a culture; I’m always a proponent of culture exchange but these two having this thing in common is wonderful in its own way. There are no misunderstandings here, just the consequences of two doofy dopes of guys being too wonderfully similar, and it’s really cute and charming.
1. Wobbles/Ami – I absolutely adore the idea of these two accident-prone ladies protecting and caring for each other! I tell you, these top three changed order a lot as I was writing this, and what ultimately put this one on top is the absolutely tender look on Wobbles’s face in the Polaroid. They’re just really sweet and adorable. They’re everything.
