your imprint's on my soul || Cha Hyun-Su x Reader
summary: When Hyun-Su's monster shows up at your door, he teases you and implies that Hyun-Su wants more with you than what you've shared before so, when Hyun-Su wakes up, you decide to act on that.
word count: 4.1k
warnings & tags: canon-typical angst, fluff, smut, explicit consent, dry-humping, thigh-riding if you squint, handjob (male receiving), they're both virgins and are both painfully awkward, this is very soft tbh
first one-shot ¡ previous one-shot
This one-shot can be read independently as there is nothing intense plot-wise that requires having read the other parts, but I do recommend reading them for context.
A/N: sooo, we've reached the first smutty installment for this series, though this feels so tame and so soft I don't even know if it deserves that name. It's what felt right to me for the development of their relationship and what I think makes sense for their characters! I hope you'll enjoy it!
Hyun-Su always knocks. It doesnât matter that youâve told him he didnât have to anymore, doesnât matter that youâve offered to give him a key. He still knocks, a soft rap against your door that youâve learned to recognize from anywhere you are in the house â itâs probably the first time ever that you are truly thankful for the terrible soundproofing in there. When Hyun-Su isnât there, you spend your time waiting to hear it again, whether consciously or not.
So when you hear something brutally hitting your door, the sound echoing through your silent house, it doesnât cross your mind that it could be him.
You stumble through the house to grab your bat, heart beating so fast itâs threatening to fall out of your chest. Whether itâs a monster or a desperate survivor trying to get in, you need to be ready to defend yourself.
Youâre slowly approaching the door when whoever â or whatever â is outside hits the door twice more.
âCâmon now, I havenât got all day.â
You still. You recognize the voice instantly, of course you do, but what you donât recognize is the tone, or even how loud it is, for that matter.
âHyun-Su?â you call out quietly.
Itâs not the smartest decision, because if itâs not him, it lets whateverâs out there know youâre here, but you canât see yourself leaving him outside.
âYou could say that,â the voice answers, and itâs still obviously Hyun-Su, and itâs still wrong, somehow.
But, after a couple seconds of further hesitation, you decide to open the door anyway. Youâve heard it before, that tone, you think, even if itâs blurry now. Plus, you cannot bear the thought of letting Hyun-Su out there, if it really is him. You tighten your hold on your bat, and carefully open the door.
The second you do, Hyun-Su walks in like he owns the place. It is so unlike him that you get ready to swing, but he spots you and grabs it from your hand easily, using his pull on it to get you closer to him, his other hand coming to your waist to stabilize you with a gentleness that contrasts with the abruptness of his movement. Once he does, he shoots you a grin that makes you knees weak, and, as his blue eyes stare straight into yours, you finally understand what is going on.
âAll that for me?â he asks, glancing at the bat.
You donât bother to answer him. You remember too well the state he was in last time you saw thisâ wellâ version of him, and your eyes run over his body, followed by your hands, checking for injuries. But while his sweater is in worst shape than usual, and you find blood that you think is fresh on there, his skin is intact under your fingers.
When you look into his eyes again, you find him staring at you, amused.
âYou can keep going,â he teases. Your face starts burning and you take a step back, embarrassed, but he follows right after you, eyes devouring you. âCome on, you know you want to. Why not just give in?â
Your back hits the wall, and he leans closer, like a cat playing with a mouse. The difference is, though your heart is hammering in your chest, you donât feel that scared. Nervous, sure, but there is no actual threat to his tone, or even to his attitude.
âIâm notâ Iâm not doing anything Hyun-Su wouldnât want,â you answer, and you somehow find it in yourself to lift your chin defiantly as you do.
Meeting this version of Hyun-Suâs eyes sends a rush of heat through you once again. Beneath the amusement, there is so much more. Fascination. Adoration, even.
He lets out a brief laugh at your words.
âPlease,â he practically purrs, âyou canât think that he doesnât want this.â You stare at him, and his grin widens. âMaybe you should ask him, then.â He leans closer to you, mouth so close to your ear you can feel his breath tickling your cheek. âAsk him what he thinks about when heâs alone at night.â Your cheeks are on fire. âAsk him what he thinks about when youâre lying in bed next to him.â Your breath catches in your throat. âAsk him what he thinks of doing to you.â
He laughs again, and Lord, you donât know how your legs havenât given up underneath you yet.
âCome back to me if he still doesnât have the guts to do anything,â he whispers in your ear. âFor now, I think weâll take a nap.â
Thatâs all the warning you get before he collapses into you and you can do nothing but slide down to the floor, holding Hyun-Suâs now unconscious body in your arms. You curse the monstrous part of him under your breath, but you know, deep down, that itâs less about that and more about the fact that heâs leaving you with your whole body practically vibrating with feelings and desires youâve been having more and more as of late.
Your relationship with Hyun-Su is good. Itâs great. It makes you happy, so much happier than you thought would ever be possible after the world ended.
But youâd be lying if you said there hasnât been aâ yearning, a longing for more. Something you havenât put precise words on, something that is almost fully new to you, because though you had fooled around with the boyfriend you briefly had at the beginning of college, the two of you had never gotten really far. You suspect itâs even more foreign to Hyun-Su.
You do know you have an effect on him, youâre not blind. You know how he can get when he loses himself in you, when he finally lets go of all the weight he carries on his shoulders. You, however, also know how embarrassed he gets when his body reacts to you in ways he canât fully control. Youâre just not sure heâs ready for taking the relationship further and, if youâre being honest, the fear of rejection has kept you from bringing up the subject.
Except that after this conversation, the monsterâs words are swirling in your mind, and you can no longer pretend that the desire that makes your pulse quicken isnât there.
Nowâs not the time for that, though. You do your best to carry Hyun-Su to the couch, something you doubt you could have done before the Apocalypse forced you to put on some muscle, cover him with a blanket, just in case, because his sweater is starting to have more holes than fabric, and sit by his side so his head rests on your lap. All thatâs left to do now, is to wait for him to wake up.
Itâs fine, though.
Youâre used to waiting for him.
Hyun-Su opens his eyes, and at first, he just feels warm and good and safe. For once in his life, nothing hurts. Your handâs in his hair, fingers brushing against his scalp pleasantly every now and then andâ
And he doesnât remember coming to your place or seeing you.
He jumps up, eyes surveying the apartment, which looks the same it always does, then you when he turns around. All he sees there is mild confusion.
âDid you have a bad dream?â you ask.
âDid you see him?â he asks in reply.
You frown for a second, before understanding passes on your face, and Hyun-Su feels the blood draining from his face.
Last time, the monster had been with you for a couple minutes, at most. This timeâŚ
He hadnât thought he would come here. Heâd been far away, when the group of humans had gotten attacked. Intervening had been the right thing to do, heâd thought â until heâd started getting shot at. The words theyâd hurled at him, heâd all heard before, during a time of his life he wished he could forget. With his attention split between the monsters still trying to get past him on one side, and the arrows and bullets coming from the other side, the monster had managed to take over.
And maybe, just maybe, he hadnât fought it as hard as he should have.
He had never thought youâd get caught in the crossfire.
âIâm sorry,â he whispers. âAre youâ Are youââ
Hurt. Angry. Disgusted.
âIâm fine,â you answer him. You donât hesitate to reach out to gently touch his face, and your smile is so sincere itâs almost blinding. âNothing happened.â
He leans into your touch, unable to stop himself, and though he still feels the need to protest, it gets easier to believe you each time you reassure him you donât despise him.
âIt didnât do anything to you?â he asks, voice low and quiet.
You shake your head, but he canât miss the way you glance away briefly, avoiding his eyes at first.
âHe didnât hurt me,â you tell him, and he can tell itâs true, butâ
âWhat did it do?â Thereâs urgency in his voice, panic even. He grabs your arms to look into your eyes, the window to the soul, they say, but he cannot read into you, no matter how much he searches.
âNothing,â you say, but again, he can tell that thereâs more to it, and he doesnât let go, until you cave in. âHe just said something.â
âWhat did he say?â Hyun-Su presses on. Fear is invading his every bone, wrapping its vines around his heart and squeezing it.
âNothing important,â you insist, but it only makes him more desperate, because if you donât want to tell him, it must be something bad, must be something deep and dark and twisted, must be something that could make you hate him. When he doesnât let up, you sigh. âHe just said to ask you something.â
Hyun-Suâs mind goes quiet.
âAsk me what?â
His mouth is dry, his lips move painfully.
âJustâ He said, I should ask you what you want toâ to do to me.â
Itâs like a bomb just went off.
Hyun-Su lets go of you. It feels as if his whole face is burning. Shame and embarrassment overtake him, and suddenly he canât look at you anymore, just wants to run out the door, but his body is refusing to move. Heâs stuck in place like a rabbit in headlights.
âIâm sorry,â he says automatically, whipping his head in the other direction, since that all he can do.
âSo, you, um, you⌠are thinking about it?â you ask, your voice piercing straight through his heart.
âIâm sorry,â he repeats.
âNo, no, Iâm, uhââ
You grab his hand, scooting closer to him on the couch, until your knees touch his. And it grounds him. Slowly, reason starts to creep back up from under all the thoughts, and he hears the eagerness in your question.
âJ-just so weâre on the same page,â you say, as he slowly turns his head to look at you once more, âyouâre thinking about⌠having sex. With me.â
Itâs precious, how you lower your voice to say âsexâ, and then frown in annoyance at yourself. Hyun-Su still wants to tear his hand from yours, run away before you can tell him how much of a freak, of a monster you think he is. But he canât.
He thinks heâd rather you rip his heart out, as long as you do it with your bare hands, than to live without your touch ever again.
Slowly, he nods. His face and ears are tingling, and heâs sure heâs bright red by now.
âI shouldnât,â he mumbles. Youâve given him so much already. So much he hadnât dared to hope for in years. He shouldnât ask for even more. He doesnât deserve more.
But your hands tighten around his. Your mouth opens, closes, your tongue comes out to wet your lips as you hesitate and fidget nervously.
âNo, you, uh, you should,â you stutter before catching yourself, closing your eyes like you donât want to see whatâs in front of you before you take a leap of faith. âI meanâ I think about it. About you.â
A light buzz starts again in his ears.
âI didnât know,â you keep mumbling. âI mean, I wasnât sure that youââ Your gaze goes from his hand to the floor, everywhere so you donât have to look at him. âThat you wanted me. So Iâmâ Itâs, uh, itâs good to know.â
âI want you,â Hyun-Su blurts out without thinking, and of course then you look at him, with wide, pretty eyes, and if he wasnât blushing before, he sure is now. His face could burst into flames any second. âI hate that I canâtââ His eyes fall on your legs, with the dress youâre wearing riding up on your thighs. ââtouch you.â If he wasnât so scared, if he was braver⌠âI justâŚâ A whisper. âI donât want to hurt you.â
âYou wouldnât,â you say patiently. âI trust you.â
âBut I donât,â he mumbles, looking down at the floor. âYouâre soâ fragile. If I lost control for a secondâŚâ
He sees you hesitate. He expects you to tell him, again, that he wouldnât lose control, maybe that the monster inside him wouldnât hurt you. Thing is, you might be right, but it doesnât matter how unlikely it is. Thatâs not a risk he can take.
âOkay,â you say instead. âOkay. But what ifâ what if I was the one touching you?â
He almost wishes you hadnât said it, with how badly he immediately wants it.
âYou donât have to do that,â he says. His throat is dry. His whole body is aching for you.
âAnd if I want to?â You tilt your head, all pretty, and oh, how can he deny you anything?
âPlease,â he whispers.
Your lips part and your breath seems to stutter, before you lean in and kiss him, and itâs like heâs finally come home. It starts off soft, slow, no different from any kiss the two of you have shared in the past weeks. Your hand comes up to cup his face, thumb stroking his cheek.
Hyun-Su melts. He parts his lips to welcome in your tongue, lets you take the lead and set the pace for the kiss without thinking about it twice.
Then he feels you move. Itâs barely there at first, your hand thatâs not on his face coming to rest on his shoulder, and all that is known territory. Even if your fingers actually touch his skin there, because of the numerous holes in his clothing, he can handle that.
His eyes snap open again, though, when you move your leg over his so you can come sit in his lap, straddling him. You notice immediately.
âIs that okay? We can stopââ
âNo, Iââ
He doesnât want you to stop. He wants more with you, so bad, and though he would never say it out loud, heâs desperate for you to show him that youâre not disgusted in him. Every time you kiss him, every time you touch him, every time you take his hand and lead him in bed with you, he comes closer to truly believing it.
But, ah, with this last conversation, even if itâs not the first time heâs had you in his lap, he feelsâ heated. He can feel himself growing hard, and heâs still embarrassed at the thought that you can feel him. Despite what he said, his hands are on your waist, holding tight. He doesnât remember if he chose to do that.
After all, his desire for you aligns with what the monster wants so closely that heâsâ scared. Heâs so scared of losing control. But youâre looking at him so lovingly, and he wants you so bad⌠Can he be selfish? Just this once?
âDonât stop,â he almost begs, and seeing how eagerly you nod in reply is like an explosion of warmth in his chest.
Your lips crash against his again, harder, with more purpose. Your fingers card through his hair, and the feeling of your light pull on them goes straight to his core, more enjoyable than he thinks it should be, though heâs in no position to linger on it, not when the next thing you do is to experimentally roll your hips on top of him.
From your perspective, itâs a clumsy movement, one youâre unsure of. From his, itâs a rush of pure pleasure when you rub against his hard cock, one that makes him openly moan, his mouth falling open enough that he breaks the kiss. The second he realizes what kind of noise came out of him, he raises his hand to cover his mouth, cheeks turning crimson.
Heâs not daring to look at you, not at first anyway, until he feels your lips brushing against his fingers, pressing soft kisses against his hand.
âStill good?â you ask.
And he is, but heâs not trusting his voice all that much for now, so he just nods. A smile dances on your lips as you kiss down his jaw.
âAlso,â you add, âIâm notâ I donât have muchâ experience, in all, uh, that. So you shouldâ you should let me know. What feels good. What doesnât.â
âThat felt good,â he admits quietly, and your smile turns into a grin against his skin.
âI could tell.â
What you donât say is how hot you found both the sound and the thought that you could affect him like that, how badly you want to press your legs together so you can alleviate the ache youâre feeling down there, how youâre worried you actually want him even more than he wants you.
Instead of saying all that â it would make you feel so naked and so vulnerable, and disarm you completely, which doesnât seem like a good idea for now â, you start trailing your kisses down his neck. Thereâs one spot there that makes him whimper, more discreetly than before, but you latch onto it all the same, tongue coming out to flick against the skin, pulling on it softly between your teeth. He writhes and whines under you, and when his cock rubs against you just right, you gasp against him.
Youâre delighted to see reddish skin when you pull away. Heâll heal, and there will be no trace of it by morning, but thereâs something satisfying about it â and the glassy look he gives you, lips swollen and parted, hair a mess on the back of the couch, with that proud mark right above his collarbone⌠is purely sinful.
Your fingers hook in his hoodie.
âCan I?â you ask.
Heâd go to the moon and back for you.
He nods.
You pull it over his head, struggle a little when it gets caught in his hair, then manage to pull him free and kiss him again with a giggle. Itâs sweet. Youâre still wearing your dress, but itâs the first time he feels your hands directly on his skin all the same, and even if his bodyâs burning up, your touch sets him ablaze.
You explore his body with hungry eyes and hands, follow the shape of his pectorals, then move down to his abs. You trace the muscles, slowly, and as you move down, closer to his crotch, he can no longer suppress a shiver. You still for a second, and he watches you with wide eyes, waiting for you to keep moving, so badly wanting you to keep going. Finally, your fingers brush against the button of his jeans. Silently, meeting his eyes, you ask for his permission. He swallows, nods again.
Heâs nervous, almost painfully so, but he notices that your fingers are shaking as you have to try three times to get it open, and it reassures him, in some ways. It reminds him that, for all the issues he has, this is new for the both of you. There are no expectations to meet, just the two of you discovering, together, what works for you.
Once the button isnât in the way, you, very carefully, move your hand under his jeans, but over his boxers. The second he feels your hand hesitantly closing over his cock, even through the fabric, he throws his head back, trying his best not to moan again and only half-succeeding.
You watch his reactions closely as you keep touching him, slipping your hand under the boxers after a few seconds. This time he does moan, a high-pitched noise that you take to mean youâre doing something right â even if you have no idea what youâre doing. How tight should your grip be? How fast should you move? Should you be saying something? Should he be saying something?
His cock is rock hard between your fingers, harder than youâd have expected; larger, too. It seems to have been that way for a while, maybe since youâve started kissing, based on how wet with precum it is. You tighten your grip around it a little, then slide your hand down, slowly, down to the base. He moans again, and you feel him twitch between your fingers.
âUm,â you mumble, âI, uh, I donât really knowâ is thatâ is there anything I shouldââ
Hyun-Suâs looks up at you, flushed and panting. One of his hands comes to your thigh, and now youâre the one shivering under his touch. You donât think he even notices though. Youâre dripping wet yourself, but for now you just want to make him feel good. If things go well, if he stays open to this sort of things, thereâll be plenty of time to deal with that⌠later. At the moment, all you want is to show him that pleasure doesnât have to lead to anything negative.
âJ-just, keep going,â he mumbles. âYou can, ah, you can go a little faster, if youâŚâ
The rest of his words gets lost in the next moan as you follow his advice, moving your hand up and down his cock, the wetness helping the movement. Despite yourself, you rock your hips against his leg, the pressure of it between your legs feeling so delicious, you canât deny it to yourself at the moment.
Under you, Hyun-Su is lost in pleasure. Your rhythm is hesitant, youâre not holding him quite as tight as heâd like, but oh, your hand is soft and gentle, and it still feels so much better than his own. The fact that youâre all pressed against him, your breath against his neck, your scent filling him, itâs all much more than what he had imagined â because, yes, in shameful moments, heâd pictured this kind of scenes, but they had never felt as good, pleasure running through his veins and flooding his body.
Any time he indulged in them, though, he came faster than usual, and now, with the real thing, he realizes too late how quickly he is approaching his climax.
âWait,â he hears himself mumble, âIâllââ
But heâs already coming, and the strength of the orgasm leaves him breathless as he humps against your hand, trying to make it last longer.
âOh,â is all you comment, and even through the haze, embarrassment spreads through him as he realizes that thereâs cum on your hand and on his stomach. At least he cannot turn any redder now.
âSorry,â Â he mumbles, âsorry, Iââ
âNo, Iâ I thought that was pretty hot, actually,â you say, giving him a smile, and thank fuck youâve taken his hand off him, because he wouldnât want to have to explain why thatâs making him twitch again. âIâll justâ you probably want to get cleaned up.â
âIâmâ Yeah, butââ He glances down at your body. He felt you rocking against him earlier, even if he wasnât exactly in the right mind to say something about it. âDonât youâ Donât you want to, uhâŚâ
âAh, Iâm fine, I justâ I just wanted to make you feel good for now.â
And just as he thought his heart rate might go back to normal at some point, there it is, spiking again.
âWe can do thatâ some other time. If youâd like to.â
There is nothing he wouldnât give to you.
âI would. I would like that.â
Your smile is a promise for more, your kiss is sweet, and for the first time in forever, Hyun-Su forgets about the monster.
Heâs in your arms, and itâs all that matters.
iâve been trying to figure out what to put here. i already feel like iâm kinda begging for comment on my posts, which i donât like doing, but i figured iâd try to explain at least once what iâve been feeling lately â plus i'm starting a new job on Monday and i don't know how much time i'll have to write after that. truth is, the lack of interactions iâve been getting on here, on these stories, has been kind of depressing to me. i know people are reading them, considering the amount of notes, and itâs hard not to question whether itâs my writing thatâs not good enough to make people want to leave a comment, or if it's just how fandom is now and in that case it just might not be for me anymore. i mean, i write for myself first, but i post because i want to share with others, i want to see their reactions, know how my writing makes them feel⌠and lately it just feels like iâm screaming in the void and nothing else. itâs been hard to stay motivated honestly. so, yeah. you donât have to leave a comment, especially if you didnât like it, i get it, iâm not trying to guilt-trip you. i just. feel the need to explain this at least once, in case it changes someoneâs mind, and if it doesn't, i'll know i tried. if you've ever commented, reblogged with tags, sent an ask, know that i'm so thankful for you and you truly keep me going.

Hi I saw you added sweet home to your list, could you do Any fic or something where the reader hurts his ankle or something and hyun soo and his monster are being overprotective please?
BOTH SIDES
Cha hyun-soo X GN! reader
Warnings: mentions of injury, S2 spoilers, kinda comedic
A/n: I know this is probably not exactly what you had in mind but I wrote it in school. Again.
Note: bold: hyun-soo monster side.
Normal: hyun-soo
Italics and (): (hyun-soo in his head )
Bold, italics and (): (hyun-soo monster in his head )
You ran after Ah-yi, who had decided she'd ran off to chase some kind of monster while hyun-soo had gone to look for necessities.
She slid under a tall metal fence, you definitely didn't fit under that. You made the drastic decision to jump over it, and as you landed, you twisted your ankle.
"Fuck." You groaned and stood up with difficulty. "Ah-yi?!" You called for the young girl you had been chasing. She appeared from behind a tree, running towards you.
"Yes?!" She asked, her adorable smile on her face. You've been calling out for her for the past half an hour. Yet that's all it took. You inhaled sharply to compose yourself.
"We need to get back home, hyun-soo will be back soon too" you tried and to your surprise she agreed fairly quickly, she yawned and made grabby hands at you.
You sighed but picked her up, hissing at the pain that shot through your ankle in the process.
It took some time, and the kid had fallen asleep in your arms but you made it. As you neared, you made out hyun-soo's voice, looking for the both of you.
You limped your way up the stairs, careful not to wake Ah-yi up. "We're here." He immediately rushed to you. "Where have you been?" He whisper yelled at you.
"She ran off to chase something." You explained handing him the child.
He carefully took her to the small room behind him and tucked her in by the corner. You followed him slowly, closing the door behind you. You sat down in the opposite corner, a groan escaping you as you felt your ankle stinging.
"Are you okay?" Hyun-soo asked, moving to sit by you "I'm fine, just hurt my ankle it'll heal." He reached out to examine it but you pulled back "let me see?." He asked as calmly as possible
You shook your head "I'm okay, really."
"Let me see." You looked up, his eyes now a piercing blue colour unlike his usual calm dark eyes.
You threw your head back, resting it on the wall "Fine." You said gesturing to your ankle.
He checked your ankle, once you Looked back down, his eyes where back to normal and he was wrapping it with some gauze and tape.
"You should be more careful out there." He noted turning to look at you once he had finished his job.
"I'm sorry I was trying to get to Ah-yi. My ankle was the least of my worries at that moment." You defended yourself.
"I understand, but if something happened to you i-" (we.) "We don't know what we'd do."
You chuckled at the "we". You'd gotten used to his monster, you treated him like a friend and You never kissed hyun-soo while he wasn't in control.
You smiled and hugged the boy "I'll be more careful then. Promise." You assured. You felt him peck your cheek, then he leaned back, eyes closed and leaned in to kiss you.
You placed a finger over his lips "open your eyes." And he did. Just as you expected they were blue. You raised an eyebrow, and in a second your hyun-soo was back.
You pecked his lips and messed his hair a bit.
(Just once!) (Actually, shut up.)

ââââ°* Dating Cha Hyun-Su Includes: *â°âââ
A/N: In honour of the second season of Sweet Home, this was mandatoryyyy đ just started off with some relationship hcs first but feel free to send some imagine or other headcanon requests through my inbox for Sweet Home characters if you're into it! These headcanons cover season one and two. Enjoy reading đ¤
Warnings: Sweet Home series spoilers, mentions of violence
đŠ¸â˘ Starting from the beginning of this monstrous series of events, the most likely way you'll meet Hyun Su is at Green Home a bit before the monster outbreak and apocalypse comes along. All you'll see of the quiet, sullen young man is his weary, unfocused gaze that briefly trails up from the ground to glance up at you in acknowledgement as he bumps into you somehow while moving into his apartment in the complex. The only sign of his interest in you from first looks is his stare lingering for just a beat longer than he'd usually bother... and that's about it. Boy's too shy and broken and tired to feel like he's good enough to do much else, let alone have a shot at even being friends with someone like you, so he'll just admire you from afar every once in a while and leave you to live your life while he despises his.
đŠ¸â˘ HoWeVeRrR-
đŠ¸â˘ The apocalypse unleashes its hell before much else can happen, and before you know it, you two are out surviving in a ruined world riddled with horrifying monsters and mutations, hiding out inside Green Home as you form the group together with the rest and try to fight off the monsters inside the building along with it infecting and warping others into gruesome, inhumane figures.
đŠ¸â˘ This boy's absolutely damaged and drained from all he's been through before moving to Green Home, and so it takes a lot of energy for him to slowly, slowly break out of his shell and reach out to you in return. But he will. He just needs time and patience, and Hyun-Su will find himself making the tiniest amount of small talk when you're together with the rest of the surviving group in the apartment complex. Or, most likely, it'll be him giving you most of his food when you're eating by silently and gently pushing it over to you, no eye contact, no words.
đŠ¸â˘ Before you, he didn't have the slightest will or reason to live, and so the only idea he can think up while dragging himself around the wreck of Green Home along with the rest of the group of survivors is to follow you around and protect you. The way he wants to die is for you, shoving himself into the way of the monster or whatever else the danger is to take him instead. Hyun-Su's absolutely fine with that idea...
đŠ¸â˘ Until he starts falling in loveee- đđ¤
đŠ¸â˘ Everyone gets used to the sight of this boy following around after you like a moon-eyed puppy, having a tall, slightly dropping shadow trailing behind your own whenever you go somewhere to find food or weapons or whatever you've been sent to find. From Season One, where Lee Eun-Hyuk tries forcing him to do everything and using his monster side as an advantage, if it involves steering clear of you or putting you in any danger, boy's had enough. Hyun-Su will defend himself in his own quiet but intense way, his dark glare bleeding into Eun-Hyuk's with a few mumbling words of a threat before he wanders off to find you again.
đŠ¸â˘ Hyun-Su does consider trying to completely leave you alone, since everyone's aware that he's dangerous with his monster brimming to the surface from inside of him and his other symptoms and dangerous instability being infected, but it feels like the worst form of torture. He's alone again, in a world grimmer than the last, and he has no idea what to do with himself except feel like crying and telling you everything about everything when you sit by him and ask him if he's doing alright.
đŠ¸â˘ I think that this guy would be mega touch-starved after living in isolation for so long after all the bullying and tragedies with his family, so having you as a comforting voice of reason and warmth is something he can't help but melt into after you've been unspoken friends during the apocalypse and doesn't have the fight left in him to reject you if you try to clean bloodstains and patch up his wounds after a nasty confrontation. After that, it's safe to say that out of the whole group of survivors together in Green Home, he'll always be naturally apprehensive and distrusting towards them all, but if it's you that's trying to point something out or is worried about something; let him go get his weapon, he's coming with you.
đŠ¸â˘ His general aim and instinct is to protect good people and be some source of help and comfort that's been so unfamiliar to him personally, but with you, instinct is boosted 10000000% because it's you. You're too good for this world, way too good for him, and if you die, he dies. This concept basically becomes something Hyun Su isn't even fully aware of until the point where you might almost die somehow being confronted by monsters with the others, which is where you'll witness himself having a full-on freak-out in his mind and using all his strength and darker, monstrous side to come out on top to save your life.
đŠ¸â˘ After the danger's gone and you're alone in a quiet room to recover and process what happened, that's all the time you need to make it official, hugging him tightly and thanking him, while Hyun-Su shakily pats your back in return before giving up and hugging you back equally as tightly, staying in a protected embrace as long as time will let you.
đŠ¸â˘ There's so much raw love and trust and protection in a relationship with Hyun-Su, it's unbelievable đ he's so clingy and sweet and ridiculously romantic in private with you until you point it out, which results in a blushing red sight and not being able to look you in the eye in bashfulness for about a straight hour before he gets over it. In public, it's still obvious that you're together, with smaller signs of affection and togetherness like holding hands, or doing that coupley thing where you whisper together in the back corners of rooms or give each other brief, subtle looks that say everything you need to understand what it means and where to run or go or something.
đŠ¸â˘ At first, he is a little reluctant to get too close to you because of that lingering fear of accidentally hurting you or his monster side popping out to ruin everything, but with some time and small steps, he'll eventually give up trying to be overly cautious and let him be wholly soothed by you, which was the biggest relief of all for him.
đŠ¸â˘ But just as you're getting properly closer and in touch with each other as romantic partners as well as best friends and survivors in this mess together, his monster alter ego personality will find it the perfect time to mess around with his head and find a way to overpower Hyun-Su, meeting you properly in the process.
đŠ¸â˘ Now, his monster side is a whole other story when it comes to personality, but if you think that means you'll be left alone or hated or something, think AgAiN, and then again, because no :)
đŠ¸â˘ Hyun-Su's monstrous side is darker, daring, dangerous, and with you, madly possessive and protective. I mean, he won't even try to hold himself back from taking things to extremes and spilling as much blood as necessary if he gets a weird vibe from someone around you, or if someone outrightly tries to attack you. Even if it's a monster like him, there's enough threat in thrashing them through a few solid walls and leaving some biting words behind before stalking off.
đŠ¸â˘ Monster Hyun-Su's a massive starer by the way, so those unnervingly blue eyes are going to be a sight you'll have to get used to, like literal inches away from your face when you wake up, studying you for wounds, or just studying you in general. There's something about you that's just so fascinating to him, and this side of him literally does not know what boundaries are, so he's all up in your face studying you in curiosity with a soft but dark smirk on his face, while you're just "đ"
đŠ¸â˘ Kind of gross but Monster Hyun-Su has the weirdest affection ever. Like, he enjoys feeding you when you're hungry, mostly questionably bloody-looking things until you get it in his head that you're not Hannibal Lecter and just want a breakfast bar or something đ and when this guy goes to hug you, it'll be ridiculously tight, sometimes his wing breaking out of its shell to wrap over you, which is kind of sweet. Until he goes to kiss you and it's not a kiss at all, it's more him living up to his monstrous reputation by licking at your skin like some kind of dog until you squeal and push him away, which he always finds hilarious. Meanwhile, normal Hyun-Su's mortified đ
đŠ¸â˘ Normal Hyun-Su and Monstrous will most likely make an agreement between them to make sure you're kept alive and as unharmed as possible, protect you from any sort of danger, so if you thought you had a shadow following after you before the split between them, you've got a much more threatening one now, so it'd be very hard for much damage to come to you at all. And good luck if you want some time alone to wander and think by yourself, because if he doesn't straight-up follow you out with no buts like usual, he'll be watching you somewhere close at all times.
đŠ¸â˘ I feel like Hyun-Su's monstrous side would find it funny to make you jump, like falling down out of nowhere from a building or something right in front of you when you thought you were alone or something stupid like that. You'll give him an annoyed glare of protest, and he'll just smirk smugly and teasingly with a fake-innocent shrug of "something wrong?"
đŠ¸â˘ To sum up the whole. predicament you've gotten yourself into here, falling in love with Hyun-Su would pretty much protect you from ninety per cent of the apocalyptic mess of the world while being showered with all the lost love and affection and longing he thought were dead along with all the rest of his hopes and energy from the beginning. And then to keep you on your toes, you've got the monstrosity inside of his head coming out at random moments to obsess over you before Hyun-Su can come back to reality again. But whoever's at the surface, and wherever you two are, he'll always, always be there watching you and with you, one way or another.

Floating Above Those Dark Skies
My Navigation and Masterlist
My Sweet Home Masterlist
My Cha Hyun-su Masterlist
Pairing(s): Cha Hyun-su x Fem!Reader Summary: Living with the love of your life and the girl you love like a daughter is perfect. Except for all the bad parts. Warnings: Season 2 spoilers! Follows the dialogue of the episodes relatively strictly (I know some people like that but some people don't so it's a warning), Reader being like a second mother to Ah-yi, Hyun-su being a great big brother/father figure, slight talk of previous suicide attempts (The National Suicide and Crisis Hotline is 988. There are so many people who care about you and would love to help you. You are not alone), injuries, underage drinking (but they're in the apocalypse so who cares), canonical death, hurt with comfort, the appearance of (soft and kinda ooc) monster!Hyun-su, no use of (y/n), reader has the nickname "Lucky". Word Count: 17,132 (wow, what a doozy)

Hyun-su led the way as you all walked to his home. Halfway there, Ah-yi complained about her feet hurting and it was then you noticed she had been barefoot this entire time.Â
âWe definitely need to fix that,â you thought.Â
Before Hyun-su could even open his mouth, you crouched down and extended your hands out to her. She rushed forward to jump into your arms with a tired smile. When you straightened back up, she rested her head against your shoulder and was out like a light within a few minutes.Â
âShe seems to like you a lot,â Hyun-su whispered fondly as a gentle smile laid itself on his lips. After making sure she was secure in your arms, you smiled back at him and dropped one hand from holding her to hold his hand.Â
âI guess Iâm just a toddler whisperer. I think she likes me better than you,â you joked and he let out a scoff while squeezing your hand.
âYeah, sure. Whatever,â he told you in an offended tone you could tell was fake by the smile threatening to break his facade.Â
After a few minutes of comfortable silence as you walked, you asked the question that had been burning in your mind since you saw him again with the girl in your arms. âSo⌠who is she?âÂ
He let out a heavy sigh before pushing a tree branch out of the way for you to walk through since your hands were full.Â
Always the gentleman.
âSheâs Seo Yi-kyungâs baby.â
You let out a quiet gasp. âWhat? But she hadnât even been pregnant for half a year? And this is at least a 4-year-old child!â You whisper shouted at him, completely shocked by the information.Â
âI donât fully understand it either, but I do know sheâs hers,â he assured you and you let out a sigh, your eyes wide as you tried to process the information.Â
âSo, is she a monster-human mix as well? Is she like you?â You asked. You hadnât noticed the way Hyun-su snapped his head towards you because you were too focused on the girl in your arm, letting out small breaths that tickled your neck. The way you said the sentence was so unlike anything he had heard before - especially relating to talking about monsters and neohumans. You sounded so soft, not an ounce of judgment or resentment in your voice. You sounded like no matter what the answer was you wouldnât treat her any differently. You would adore her just as much as you were in that moment with your face buried in her hair as she let out quiet snores in her sleep. He gave a soft smile at the thought.Â
âI think so. She's grown so much since I first met her. Her actual age is around 5 or 6 months.â
âWow,â you breathed and he couldnât help but marvel at the way your voice embodied adoration and your smile was so bright it set the sky on fire despite the sun falling over the horizon. âThatâs⌠wow.â
The rest of the walk was spent in silence. At some point, Hyun-suâs hand moved from holding yours to circling your waist as you hugged Ah-yi to your chest protectively. Eventually, the three of you arrived at a dock where a large boat was parked.Â
You werenât all too surprised to find he had lived on a boat for the past half-year but you couldnât help the small part that didnât believe him when he told you.Â
He hopped up onto the boat first before helping you, careful not to wake Ah-yi. After the two of you were safely atop the boat, he led you to the captainâs quarters and helped you lay the girl in your arms down onto the nest of blankets and sweaters assembled to make a bed. Her dress had dried surprisingly quickly on the way to the boat, the only thing left to be damp was her hair.
 You werenât so lucky.
Your clothes stuck to your skin uncomfortably but you refused to complain, giving a - hopefully convincing - smile to Hyun-su when he saw you detach your shirt from your chest with a grimace. He walked away for a few moments and you sat down at the entrance to the captainâs quarters, resting your head against the door frame until his soft footsteps brought your attention back to him. He stood in front of you with a pair of folded clothes in his hands.Â
âI have these if you want to change into some fresh clothes. I donât have any towels but this might help.â
The hesitant and shy look on his face made a smile break out on your own. You gave him a nod and took the clothes from his hands. You didnât comment on how they were exactly your size but it made your heart flutter.Â
âThank you,â you told him genuinely.
He nodded back at you before pointing to a door inside the quarters. âIn there is a bathroom for whenever you want to change. Iâll wait for you out here.â
You nodded and turned before the smitten smile overcame your face stupidly at the thought. He just said he would wait for you and you could feel your heartbeat quickening alarmingly while heat rose to your cheeks. You walked into the bathroom and looked at yourself in the mirror. It was kind of scary. You hadnât seen your reflection in a few months, never venturing into any areas with cars and rarely going near water. All the mirrors in the women's locker room back at the stadium had been broken after a monster outbreak and the monster breaking all of them because she was âtoo ugly.âÂ
You honestly almost forgot what you looked like, but you were beautiful. You had always thought of yourself as a relatively attractive person but never the kind that would make someone turn their head. Now, you found yourself unable to look away. Your skin was glowing, whether that be from the sweat collecting from the walk or the water, you didnât know. Any blood that had collected on you over the past few weeks had been rinsed off in the lake and you relished in the feeling of being clean of it for once, despite how the stickiness of the wet clothes you were still wearing still made you feel a bit dirty.
Snapping out of your amazement, you quickly took your old clothes off, replacing them with the ones Hyun-su had given you. It was a simple pair of dark gray sweatpants and a maroon short-sleeved shirt. You took off your unbearably uncomfortable socks and replaced them with the soft wool socks he provided as well. Now dry, you exited the bathroom to see Hyun-su had stuck to his word and was waiting for you as he leaned against the door frame of the room, though this time in a different, dryer outfit.Â
âHey,â you said softly to get his attention. He looked over at you and smiled when he saw you all dressed and dryer than before.Â
âHey,â he whispered back. He held his hands out for you to give him your wet clothes and you did reluctantly. He walked over to the edge of the boat and laid them over the edge so they could dry before returning to you. âWell, you should get some sleep.â
As if his words were magic, you suddenly felt the events of the day hit you like a truck and you yawned, nodding your agreement. âI think thatâs a good idea.â
You gave a quick look around the room before deciding to sleep next to Ah-yi with your head using a part of her âbedâ as a pillow.
Hyun-su winced as he saw you settle against the hard floor of the boat and walked forward without thinking. He gently grabbed your shoulders, lifting you and then settling you against his chest while you sat in between his legs.Â
You blushed but said nothing as you settled with your cheek pressed against his chest, his heartbeat echoing against your ear and calming your nerves.
âSleep,â he told you and tightened his grip around you. âIâll keep watch.â
Your tongue felt heavy with sleep as you spoke your next words with a slight slur. âBut what about you?â
He let out a soft laugh as he heard your breathing even out almost immediately after your sentence ended. He let his head rest against the wall behind him as he kept his gaze on the door.
âIâll be okay,â he whispered as he briefly looked down at your peaceful sleeping face. âAs long as youâre here with meâŚâ
âLucky.â
~A Week Into The Apocalypse, In Green Home~
It had been a week since the apocalypse started, and you had barely seen Hyun-su. The way the other residents and survivors treated him caused you to be so angry. You were thankful that at least one person - Eun-yu - didnât treat him like a monster.Â
She wasnât much different though, considering she still avoided him most of the time.Â
It was after the reappearance of Yi-kyung and the failed mission to retrieve medicine for Ji-su and her surgery that you got the chance to talk to him for more than just a quick goodbye or hello.Â
âAll alone?â You asked him as you approached the staircase. The candle in your hands burned a bright yellow and smelled of cinnamon sugar. His head looked up at where you were approaching and nodded as you settled yourself on the stairs with him. Although he appreciated you trying to give him space and sitting a short distance away, he couldnât help but wish you were closer. You smiled at him and smoothed your hands along your pants when you were seated.Â
âAre you scared?âÂ
The question through you off guard. Giving a quick look around the room, you didnât see anything that you would consider to be a threat so you werenât really sure what he was talking about.Â
âOf what?â You asked, tilting your head in confusion at the boy.Â
He mirrored your head tilt with a confused look of his own. Inwardly you laughed at how the two of you must look like confused dogs when their owners told them a command they didnât understand.Â
âOf⌠me?â He questioned again and a small laugh left you when you finally realized.Â
âOh, Hyun-su,â you reached over to gently grab his hand as you looked him deeply in the eyes. âI promise you I could never be scared of you.â
He looked down with a small smile at that and you could see the small hints of red on his ears and cheeks.Â
âSo, Iâve been meaning to ask you,â you started and gently released his hand. He immediately felt cold at the lack of your added warmth. âI never tried because I wasnât sure if you even wanted to talk to me, but is there a reason why you never came by? Even after you were given a choice to leave the quarantining room?â
He paused as he thought for a moment. âI thought you didnât want to see me. You were the only person not put on guard duty so I figured it was because you asked not to.â
You let out a sad sigh. âShit, Iâm sorry. I promise thatâs not what happened.â
He looked up at you with sad, confused little puppy eyes. âItâs not?âÂ
You shook your head. âThe first, and only, time I was put on guard duty, I tried breaking the lock on the door,â you told him and looked away sheepishly.Â
âReally?â He asked after a moment of stunned silence.Â
You nodded in assurance. âAfter that, Eun-hyuk tried to do whatever he could to keep me as far away from you as possible. I was hoping that would change since you got out but now I know why it didnât,â you smiled at him sweetly and he felt the heat rise to his cheeks so he looked away. âYou know,â you continued. âI always saw you stop by my door right before you would leave, but you never said anything. Was that also because you thought I didnât want to talk to you?â
âPartially. It was mainly so I could just see you before I left. Every time I thought I was going to die I thought about returning so I could at least try to fix whatever was happening,â he told you. Now he was the one who looked sheepish as he scratched the back of his neck. âI always backed out at the last minute though.â
You smiled and scooted closer to him on the stairs, moving down so you were on the same level and making it so only half a foot of space separated you. âI guess I was like your lucky charm then, wasnât I?â You teased and lightly bumped your shoulder against his.Â
âYeah, I guess you were.â
~Back To The Present~
It had been about a month since you reunited with Hyun-su. Youâd grown closer to Ah-yi in no time. She looked up to you and it seemed she just needed another girl in her life to have around. Your favorite part about growing closer to her was she had upgraded your honorific from âMissâ to âUnniâ which made your heart clench adoringly every time.
The first time Hyun-su decided to make a trip into the city to collect some supplies, he was so hesitant to leave the two of you alone. You promised you would protect Ah-yi and yourself with whatever it takes; that seemed to be enough for him to be comfortable enough to leave. He never lost his hesitancy to leave the two of you alone despite each time he came back the two of you would be fine.
The most recent time was no different. You sat on top of a large, red, metal shipping container with Ah-yi as the two of you drew using the chalk you were fortunate enough to find a few days ago.
âThat looks beautiful, Ah-yi! You are such a good artist,â you praised her on her drawing and she visibly beamed. It was a simple drawing of some flowers and her, you, and Hyun-su. It was clear it was made by a child but it was so beautiful in your eyes.Â
âThank you, Unni!â You ruffled her hair which she squealed at until you noticed Hyun-su walking towards the two of you with a smile on his face and a hand hiding behind his back while the other supported a red bag over his shoulder. âOppa!â Ah-yi exclaimed and you smiled at her excitement.Â
He rounded the corner of the large container and brought the hand hiding behind his back out to place a pair of pink shoes on the top. Ah-yi gasped while you had a big smile on your face.Â
âCome on!â You urged her and she sat on the edge of the box so Hyun-su could slip the shoes onto her feet with the cutest smile ever on his face. Once the shoes were on, he held his hands out for her and she eagerly jumped down, having full faith that he wouldnât drop her. Once he set her down, he reached his hands out for you to take and you gave him a funny look.Â
âWhatâs wrong, Lucky?â He voiced his thoughts with a confused tilt of his head. You rolled your eyes at him while smiling. Your heart fluttered at the nickname. Heâd started calling you it more often since the two of you reunited and yet it still gave you butterflies. Â
âIâm okay, I can get down by myself,â you reassured him and turned around while you slowly lowered yourself from the canister, your front facing the metal.Â
You heard Hyun-su softly breathe out a laugh from behind you before a hand grabbed onto the back of your shirt and pulled. You let out a yelp as you felt yourself falling only to land bridal style in Hyun-suâs arms. You clicked your tongue in faux annoyance and crossed your arms while he tried to hide the smug smile on his lips.Â
âGoing full âknight in shining armorâ mode, are we now?â You teased him and he blushed, pointedly avoiding your gaze. Suddenly, your stomach dipped as you felt him pretend to drop you and your arms wrapped themselves around his neck while he looked at you with another self-satisfied smirk.
âWell, it looks like my âprincessâ needs her âknight in shining armor,ââ he said softly as he looked away from you and you slapped his chest. He kneeled down when Ah-yi ran up to him. Knowing exactly what he was offering, she used one of his extended hands along with yours to help prop herself onto his shoulders. Hyun-su regained his grip on you as he grabbed the red bag he had set down and stood back up to his full height before starting the walk in the direction of the boat. You rolled your eyes, knowing any protests about him carrying you would be brushed off. Instead, you just snatched the red bag from his hand, placing it on your lap and holding it tightly to your body as you gave him a challenging glare. He just rolled his eyes with a fond smile and continued walking.Â
The three of you made small talk as he carried you. Ah-yi explained what you and her had done while Hyun-su was venturing off and you chimed in every now and then with a comment. Hyun-su explained how he saw a peculiar monster today.
âIt was like a mermaid with wings.â
Then, you both went on to explain what a mermaid was to the child.Â
When you arrived at the boat, Hyun-su set the both of you down and Ah-yi started pulling you to the edge of the boat. You laughed as you walked up to the contraption. It was during your first week that you made the efficient self-fishing machine. It was a relatively simple mechanism that was made of a bunch of fishing poles and a homemade weight sensor. Whenever one of the poles was tugged on by something in the water, the device yanked it up and whatever was attached to the hook was left dangling in the air. 7 times out of 10, the hook was caught on litter in the ocean or a monster that was able to detach itself but there were the 3 times where you would catch a fish or two and the three of you would share it for dinner.Â
It became a bit of a game for Ah-yi and yourself, guessing if the day would end with a fresh meal or a degrading empty can with barnacles growing on the side.Â
As Hyun-su smiled at the two of you, he walked over to the stairs leading to the roof of the captainâs quarters and sat on the top, watching the sunset. No matter how many times you invited him to join the two of you, he always refused. It was nice you had a special activity to bond with Ah-yi over and he used that as his excuse every time.
It wasnât even 10 minutes later as you were skinning the rare fish youâd caught with Ah-yi watching attentively as you explained the different anatomy parts to her that Hyun-su noticed a familiar face climbing the steps of the boat. He climbed down and started walking over to her while the two of you stayed distracted. You only looked over and noticed the two when you heard their footsteps. You carefully set down the knife and fish, wiping your hands on a stray towel beside you, and stood up to walk over beside Hyun-su. Ah-yi followed up behind you, grabbing onto the back of your shirt shyly.Â
âI came too late, didnât I?â Yi-kyung asked from in front of you as she looked at the girl shyly standing behind you. You decided not to answer considering you still werenât sure how you felt about the whole situation of her leaving her child. Instead, Hyun-su answered her question.
âNot at all. Youâre here now, right?â
She looked down and you could see the guilt and regret on her face. Slowly, you turned around to face Ah-yi. âThatâs your mommy,â you told her and she looked at her hands shyly. âWhy donât you say hi.â
You lightly pushed her in the direction of Yi-kyung and the woman kneeled so she was face to face with her.
âHi there,â you heard her whisper to the girl while you stood up to your full height. You wrapped your arms around Hyun-suâs waist and leaned into him while you watched them interact. Yi-kyung brought her into a hug and you smiled at the relief that settled on her face.Â
Over the next few months, you and Hyun-su traveled through the city together, occasionally going back to visit Yi-kyung and Ah-yi but mainly wanting to give them the privacy a mother and daughter should have. It was adorable to come back and see the markings on the wall increase where Yi-kyung marked her daughterâs growth every day. Everything seemed to be going perfectly for the family of two.
Up until that day.
You had an awful feeling in the pit of your stomach for the entire day, feeling as if something bad was going to happen and you needed to get back to the two girls on the boat. When you shared your feelings with Hyun-su, he didnât question it for a second, immediately going with you to rush back.Â
When you arrived at the boat, you found a teenage girl covered in blood wearing the same dress as the little girl youâd grown to love while sitting on the bed blankets and jackets. You walked slowly towards her and she snapped her head up when she saw your feet enter her vision from where she had her head hung low. You kneeled in front of her, tentatively reaching a hand out to hold her cheek and she leaned into it.
Just like Ah-yi always did.
You let out a shaky breath as you finally voiced the question.Â
âAh-yi?â
She nodded, her eyes filled with fear.
Fear of resentment.
Fear of abandonment.
Fear of your fear.Â
You just let out a sigh, whether it was from relief or surprise, you didnât know. What you did know was that this was your Ah-yi and you would love her no matter what form she would take. You wrapped your arms around her and brought her in for a hug which she returned immediately. Relief coursed through her body so evidently that you could practically hear it.Â
âItâs okay. Everythingâs okay,â you dispelled her fears, bringing her closer and rocking her as she cried into your shoulder and told you what happened. You smoothed down her bloodied hair, not caring about how she was staining your clothes with the blood coating her.Â
Once she calmed down a bit more, you gathered a rag from the bathroom.
âIâll be right back, okay?â You promised her and she nodded. You turned and left, closing the door behind you and giving her a playful wink through the window which she giggled quietly at. Hyun-su followed you as you walked down the stairs of the boat and to the edge of the water. As you kneeled down to dip the rag into the lake's water, you started asking the questions on your mind about what Ah-yi told you happened.
âHow did they even find this place? How did they find out about her being mixed?â You asked Hyun-su. His lips twitched into a small smile when he heard you refer to her as âmixed.â He remembers you telling him the reasoning behind it like it was yesterday.
âI donât like the word âmonster.â I always associated the word âmonsterâ with someone who acts evilly and neither of you are like that. I know youâre not entirely human anymore but I refuse to call you monsters. Human or not, you are still a good person.â
It was the moment he had set it in stone that you were the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.Â
âI donât know,â he answered your questions. âBut I have a bad feeling about the whole thing,â he paused momentarily before continuing. âWhat do you think we should do about the whole⌠touch thing she has?â He asked you and you frowned in thought.
âWell, I donât think we should do anything. Itâs a part of who she is and she shouldnât feel the need to be ashamed of it. I donât necessarily think she should use it on people, least of all those undeserving of it, but she can learn to control it. She doesnât have to live in fear of herself.â
Just as Hyun-su was about to reply to your heartwarming statement, the two of you were interrupted by Ah-yi screaming and crying from the boat. You both ran in the direction of the scream and when you got there you saw Yi-kyung with her head down as blood dripped from her eye while Ah-yi was rubbing at a wound on her forearm.Â
âWhatâs going on?â Hyun-su questioned in a panic. Seeing the bloody knife on the ground as well as a bloody pencil, you pieced together what happened. It seemed Hyun-su did too, if his sigh was any way to tell. âWhy did you have to do this?â
Yi-kyung let out a few heavy breaths as she breathed through the pain coursing through her eye. âIâm her mother. No matter how she changes, or what form she takes⌠I need to recognize my little girl. I wonât ever lose her.â
It was then you realized the wound Yi-kyung inflicted on Ah-yi was black. You let out another sigh, anger, and understanding fighting for control of your emotions as you realized the purpose of her actions. She may have had better intentions behind the action, but how she carried it out was not the way to go.Â
As Yi-kyung rose and left the scene, you sat down in front of Ah-yi, carefully reaching for her left arm where the wound had already healed. You gently used the rag to wipe down her arm, then her other arm, and then her face. You wiped down all the blood that tainted her smooth skin while she sat there silently, most likely in shock by what just happened. The domestic act, despite the violent acts that brought it about, brought a wave of emotion over Hyun-su as he watched the two of you.Â
It made him realize how much he wanted a family with you one day.Â
After Ah-yi was all clean, you gave her a pair of clothes to change into while you and Hyun-su went to the opposite side of the boat to talk while you waited for her. When she came out, you walked over to give her a hug which she gladly accepted. She squeezed you just as tightly as you squeezed her. You wished you could engrave it into her brain that you would never, could never, be afraid of her.Â
Afterward, she went to sit on a barrel, swinging her legs back and forth while you watched her and leaned against Hyun-suâs embrace. It was all so calm until Yi-kyung appeared from the boatâs stairs and walked towards Ah-yi with purpose. Ah-yi, still angry at her mother for what she did, hopped off the barrel and started walking away but was stopped when Yi-kyungâs hand wrapped around her bicep and aggressively pulled her back. The woman shoved her daughterâs hands into a pair of pink gloves connected by a rope that she placed behind the girlâs neck.Â
âDonât take those off no matter what. Understand?â Yi-kyung told her daughter. You rushed forward, feeling anger simmer beneath your blood at the sudden display of aggression she started showing toward her daughter.Â
âHey, donât you think this is a bit extreme?â You told her, standing in between the two girls. You felt Ah-yi grip your shirt from behind you. You could tell even if her body had grown more, she was still used to her childhood ways of having you protect her.Â
âSheâs my daughter, I will do as I see fit,â Yi-kyung told you sternly before swiftly turning around and walking back down the stairs of the boat, leaving the three of you alone.Â
You turned around to face the girl and sighed when you saw her speed-walking to her sleeping space in the captainâs quarters and locking the door behind her. You and Hyun-su decided to just set up camp outside the door, leaving her alone for the time being so she could sort out her thoughts.Â
The next morning, you woke up to the sound of Yi-kyung panicking. You instinctively looked around, looking to protect Ah-yi until you realized she wasnât there. You rushed to stand up and ran to where her mother was breathing heavily and pacing back and forth.
âWhatâs going on? Whereâs Ah-yi?â You questioned and she turned to face you.
âI donât know! I was looking for her this morning and I canât find her anywhere!â
âShit,â you muttered to yourself. Your thoughts were racing, trying to think of any place she could possibly be. When you finally landed on an answer, you started walking off.
âWhere are you going?â Yi-kyung called out to you and you scoffed, not bothering to face her as you continued walking.Â
âTo find your daughter.â
When you got to the garden dome, the rusting doors were firmly closed unlike the previous times you were here with Ah-yi. Not deterred in any way, you rammed into the doors, successfully sending them flying open. You winced at the loud noise and walked in.Â
âAh-yi!â You yelled out, praying your instinct was right and she was here.
âGo away, Unni,â you heard her soft voice tell you from further into the garden.Â
Sighing, you walked closer until you saw her sitting on the grass flooring while playing with a flower.Â
âAh-yi, why donât you come home?â You tried but she just shook her head. When you realized she wasnât going to say anything else, you walked closer.
Imagine your surprise when she scrambled away from you, desperate to keep the space between you two.Â
âAh-yi, whatâs wrong?â You asked gently, stopping in your tracks to give her the space she desired.Â
âDonât touch me! I might hurt you!â She exclaimed fearfully through a sob and you cursed her mother for putting that image in her head. Taking another slow and gentle step toward her, you internally cheered when she didnât move away. You took more steps toward her until you were sitting right in front of her and your hand reached for hers.Â
When she pulled back, you gave her the best reassuring smile you could muster. âSweetie, I know that you wonât hurt me. I promise.â
She hesitated but when you reached for her hands again she let you take them. You gave her a smile and squeezed her hand before pulling her into your chest. Your arms wrapped around her shoulders and held her tightly while she started crying more, her body wracking with the violent sobs she let out.Â
âI just donât understand why she hates me so much! Those men hurt me first!â She sobbed into the crook of your neck and you softly caressed her hair, brushing the loose leaves and grass strands out.Â
âI know, Iâm so sorry she did that to you. You definitely didnât deserve that,â you reassured her and lifted your chin to rest your head on top of hers when you saw Hyun-su leaning against a wall while watching the two of you with a frown. You used a hand to wave him over and he slowly walked over so he was sitting about a foot away from the two of you. You looked back down at her and kissed her forehead lovingly. âI donât want you to be afraid of yourself. You did what you had to do in that situation and no one is blaming you for it. Your mom is justâŚâ you hesitated, looking to Hyun-su for support on how to explain the girlâs motherâs actions in a way that wouldnât drag her name through the mud any more than it already was.
âYour mom was just worried,â Hyun-su intervened when he noticed your pleading gaze, bringing a hand to rest against Ah-yiâs back comfortingly. Ah-yi jumped a bit, startled, but otherwise didnât do anything. âIt was a shock to her to not only see you grow 10 years older in a few seconds but also to see how you dealt with those men. She didnât want to lose you.â
âYou mean she was scared. Scared of me,â she argued.
The both of you stayed quiet for a minute before you spoke again. âI know it doesnât seem like it now because of what happened yesterday, but I promise you she loves you,â she started crying again and you just hugged her tighter to you. âAnd if you donât believe me, at least know that I love you.â
It was the first time youâd expressed that to her in words and she looked up at you in surprise.Â
âReally?â
The pure innocence and surprise in her tone were enough for a genuine smile to break out on your face.Â
âOf course,â you told her sincerely and brushed her overgrown bangs to the side of her face.Â
âI guess I should trim those soon,â you thought to yourself.Â
âHow could I not love you? Youâre amazing!â You teased her lightly and she grinned at you. âYouâre like a daughter to me, Ah-yi. I canât see a life in which I wouldnât love you.â
She dug her head into the crook of your neck again at your words.Â
âI just stopped crying,â she complained with a whine that made you laugh. âDonât make me start again!â
âOkay! Okay,â you caved and leaned back to look at her again. âWhy donât we go home now?â She hesitated for a moment before nodding decisively.Â
The three of you stood up and you offered your hand to Ah-yi without a second of hesitation, something you could see in her eyes she appreciated.Â
âAh-yi,â Hyun-su said as the boat came into view in front of you all. Youâd stopped by the lake where you saved her all those months ago on the way back and spent a few hours there. Both of you could tell she didnât really want to go home yet so you extended the day as long as you could.Â
She hummed and looked over at him from where you had her propped up on your back in a piggyback ride. She had stepped on a rock and dramatically complained about it until one of you just decided to pick her up and bring her along.Â
That someone being you.Â
âIâŚâ he hesitated and you freed up a hand to reach over and give his hand a reassuring squeeze. âI need you to do me a favor. When we get back, I need you to go easy on your mom.â
You could feel her body tensing on your back, not expecting his words to be that. You quickly intervened. âWe donât expect you to forgive her anytime soon. Hell, I donât really expect you to ever forgive her, but I think we both agree that you should give her another chance,â you told her. She huffed and rested her chin on your head childishly. âWeâll talk to her whenever we get back and tell her what she did was wrong, but she was only trying to keep you with her.â
There were a few moments where Ah-yi stayed silent as you walked and you got nervous about what her reaction would be until she sighed.Â
âFine.â
You sighed in relief and smiled. What you wouldnât tell her is that the âtalkâ you would be having would most likely be a screaming match between the two of you while Hyun-su tried to be the mediator.Â
It had been about a month since that day and youâd stayed with Ah-yi and Yi-kyung for about half of it. The rest of the time, you and Hyun-su traveled through the city together, enjoying the feeling of being free with each other and occasionally spying on the soldiers of the stadium when they went out on their supply runs.Â
âI have a bad feeling,â Hyun-su told you one day while the two of you were washing a muddied shirt in the river.Â
âLetâs go check it out then,â you told him, standing up and wiping your hands on your trousers but he held his hand up.Â
âI⌠I donât think you should come with me.â
You looked at him, feeling shocked and slightly hurt but masking it under a calm exterior. âO-oh. Oka-â
âI just mean it feels dangerous. I donât really know how to explain it,â he interrupted you quickly, hesitantly taking one of your hands and squeezing it reassuringly.Â
You gave him a small frown. âBut I donât want you to be in any danger either.â
He smiled confidently at you and stared deeply into your eyes. âI promise I will be okay. Just stay in the shed until I get back. Iâll be back in a few hours at most.â
After a moment of hesitation, your eyes flicking between the broken down shed behind you and Hyun-suâs dark mocha brown eyes, you nodded in agreement. He smiled at you before turning in the opposite direction and starting to walk away. Just as he started to get out of arm's length, you tightened the grip you had around his hand. He turned back to you, tilting his head in question but your head was down, your eyes focused on his hand where you gently played with his fingers.Â
âPlease return to me,â you whispered, barely audible to him and he sighed. Taking a step forward, he wrapped his arms around you, one resting on the back of your head and the other around your waist.Â
âI will, Lucky. I always will.â
Eun-yu walked down the empty street of the city, darkness clouding every corner and making her jump at every noise. She wasnât nearly as experienced as you when it came to venturing off alone and outside of the stadium so it was all new to her. This was her first time out of the stadium, let alone all by herself, and she had barely any idea of what to do or where to go. It all started when she was waiting for you at the exit you used to go through when you went on your personal expeditions.Â
She wasnât dumb. She knew you were leaving every day and trying to hurt yourself, yet every day you came back safe. Maybe a little broken and bruised at times, but alive nonetheless. Despite the two of you not being close, she still cared about you more than anything. You were the closest thing to a friend that she had. She was positive you didnât remember this, but she had helped comfort you one night as you cried after another - but also thankfully your last - attempt to leave this world. You told her about the force that kept you alive, protecting you from monsters and from yourself. You told her about how you blame yourself for Hyun-suâs disappearance and how he was most likely dead. You told her everything. Afterward, you ended up passing out in her embrace and sleeping the entirety of the next day away while she stayed by your side to ward off anyone wanting to wake you.Â
Once you woke up, you seemed normal. The same expressionless look on your face as you went on with your day. It stayed that way for a long time. Eun-yu tried her best to do subtle things to help you; to make you feel more wanted and make you blame yourself less.
Until one day, you never came back.Â
You leaving and never returning is what led her to be standing at the exit not even a week ago, feeding some of her rations to a small stray kitten. Itâs what led her to stay there even when Chan-young approached her and asked her what she was doing. Itâs what made her stay even after a young girl she hadnât recognized revealed herself. Itâs what made her stay despite the pleas to go back inside from Chan-young and allowed her to see the woman she thought had died show up and take the girl with her.Â
It is also what led her here, all alone looking for you or the girl or Yi-kyung. Whilst finding you was her main goal, she would be satisfied with any of the three.Â
She lost Chan-young somewhere along the way after he was poisoned by the girl accompanying that old man but she didnât let that deter her.Â
Now, in the dark shadows looming over the alleyways she walked through, a long metal pipe clutched in one of her hands, she searched the abandoned city with the need to find you forcing down any fear she was feeling. The unoccupied hand had an old piece of clothing wrapped around it, protecting any dirt from getting into the wound where she protected Yeong-su from that soldier.
She often wondered if you knew how much you inspired her to be brave and protect those around her.
After some time, she found herself standing in front of a large greenhouse. Most of the windows were broken and she could see the plants inside had overgrown their once pristinely gardened form, but it was gorgeous regardless. The moonlight shone through the broken glass and cast spotlights of glimmering luminescence across the vegetation. She took a moment to admire everything, noting how you wouldâve loved a space like this until she heard a growling sound from behind her and her guard immediately went back up. Moving the pipe so it was tightly grasped in her hands like a baseball bat, she held it defensively and slowly crept closer to the source of the growling. The large crater in the ground made her sick, reminding her of the tragedy that happened less than a year ago when the government tried to kill as many people as possible in order to âsave humanity from itself.âÂ
As she got closer, she raised the pipe over her head, ready to strike at any moment. The growling of the monster got louder as she approached and she prepared herself to swing until-
âHe wonât attack you.â
Eun-yu turned around, facing the new voice and seeing the same girl from before. She lowered the pipe, letting it hang loosely at her side as the girl took slow steps toward her. Since she was almost positive this girl would have nothing to do with you, she instead asked about Yi-kyung. âIâm looking for Yi-kyung. You know where she is, right?â The girl stayed silent, gradually getting closer as she continued with her measured footsteps. âI have to meet with her.â
The two girls stared at each other as the younger girl approached. Silence stilled the air until it was broken.
âMom⌠the people⌠theyâre all bad.â
âDid you say âMomâ?â Eun-yu questioned, her face portraying her confusion and shock.
âShe couldnât mean Yi-â
âYouâre no different,â the girl concluded, taking her last few steps forward more quickly and launching Eun-yu down into the hole behind her. Feeling the ground disappear from below her feet and the wind rush through her hair, she screamed.Â
A scream.
A scream was what stopped you from continuing your washing of Hyun-su and your clothes. You snapped your head in the direction of the noise so fast you were worried you got whiplash. Unconsciously clutching the current piece of clothing youâd been washing in your hands, you started sprinting in the direction of the noise. As you got closer, the area around you got brighter and you noticed it becoming increasingly more familiar to you. It was when you saw the familiar metal canisters that you realized you were near the boat.
It was also when you realized the boat was on fire.Â
You gasped as you saw the flames licking away at the deck in the distance, pushing your body past its limits as you forced yourself to go faster, faster, faster. You were beyond terrified at the implications the fire had.
âWas this the bad feeling Hyun-su had?â You asked yourself. You tried your best to stay as positive as possible until you got there but it was difficult with all the possibilities swirling in your mind. However, there was one possibility you clung to: while the boat burning was bad in itself, maybe nobody was on it.
Maybe.
When you got to the stairs of the boat, you climbed them as quickly as you could, ignoring the pain in your foot when you slipped down one and ended up stepping on it wrong.
âThatâs a problem for later.â
You got to the top, not seeing anybody in the burning embers surrounding you. Quickly covering your mouth with the still-damp piece of fabric in your hands and thanking yourself for unconsciously holding onto it, you ran around the top of the deck, looking for any signs of life while simultaneously praying for none. Seeing nothing, your mind ran at a hundred miles per hour as you tried to decide if that was a good or bad thing.Â
âCha Hyun-su!â You screamed out, the use of his last name representing your evident panic. âSeo Ah-yi!â It was when you circled the captainâs quarters that you saw a familiar lean body. âSeo Yi-kyung!âÂ
You rushed forward, sliding down to your knees as you reached her and turning her onto her back. You winced as you saw the burn marks and ash littering across the side of her face. You brought the wet clothing down from where it covered your mouth and nose, quickly replacing it with the cuff of your jacket as you used the wet fabric to cover Yi-kyungâs nose. The fire caught onto your pants and you scrambled to put it out, letting out muffled screams into your sleeve as it burned your skin.Â
You watched as the small baby monster you knew to be Ah-yiâs friend approached you and Yi-kyung. You were mainly confused about why it showed up here willingly, usually, monsters were terrified of fire and would avoid it at all costs but that didnât seem to be the case.Â
âGo away! Get out of here!â You screamed at the baby but it just babbled at you, running up to you and setting out the fire on your pants. Then, it began to circle around the two of you, using its body to roll out any fire that got too close. You quietly sobbed, your tears feeling like ice against your flaming skin. âThank you,â you whispered to the small creature, feeling so grateful yet guilty for the way it was putting itself in danger for you.Â
Suddenly, as you felt yourself fading out of consciousness, the exhaustion from the run over, and the pain in your foot getting to you, you heard a familiar voice call out for you.
âLucky!â
Hyun-su...
Eun-yu screamed out as she fell until she quieted, accepting her death to be by falling down a large hole while not knowing if her only friend was dead or alive. Just as she lost all hope, the sound of something whipping through the wind above caught her attention along with a familiar large wing made of bone and muscle only. It was only for a moment that she caught a glimpse of the boyâs face before his arm wrapped around her body and they shot up.Â
Reaching the top, Hyun-su swung around so his body would take the brunt of the fall and they crashed. Sliding across the concrete, he used his wing to slow them down as much as possible and keep her as unharmed as he could. Barely taking a minute to breathe when they came to a stop, Hyun-su opened his arm and rolled Eun-yu off before standing back up.Â
âCha Hyun-su,â the girl tried, struggling to lift herself from the ground. Receiving no response as he continued walking toward Ah-yi, who was watching curiously from the other side of the crater, she tried again. âCha Hyun-su!â She finally made it to her feet as she screamed.
Hyun-su let out a breath. He took a moment to force his eyes to return to their natural state instead of the endless void that would consume him when in his monster state before slowly turning around to face her.
âAre you really just gonna leave like that?â She asked him, more quietly this time as he faced her. His wing flapped lightly at his side, whistling through the wind in an ethereally beautiful way.Â
At least, thatâs how you would often describe it.
âWere you expecting a hug or something?â He asked her in a blank tone and she looked at him with exasperated annoyance.Â
âYeah, I was. I expected at least a âGlad to see you. Howâve you been?ââ She retorted back at him, getting angrier by the moment at the completely blank look on his face.Â
âBut Iâm not glad to see you,â he told her and she couldnât help but expect it. She knew they werenât close. Nowhere near as close as you were with Hyun-su. You always tried so hard to make him feel included, to fight for his rights even when Eun-hyuk kept you as far away from him as possible. After you tried to break the lock of the door that one time, he gave strict instructions to everyone who had a guard duty that they were not to allow you near the room. You would always leave Eun-hyuk with the same phrase after each failed attempt to see the boy.
âYouâre a coward. You wonât go up the stairs to retrieve the residentsâ items yourself and then you treat the man who does do it like scum. I canât believe you.â
It was what made her like you in the first place. While she knew you and Hyun-su had known each other for a brief period before the apocalypse, she couldnât help but admire how you stood up for the boy without a second thought. She was pretty sure she realized your feelings for him before even you did.Â
âYou werenât supposed to know how to leave the stadium. You shouldâve just stayed away,â Hyun-suâs voice broke her out of her brief flash of memories.Â
âIt was you all alongâŚâ she started, taking a stuttering step toward him. âThat night with the rope⌠all the times she tried to kill herself⌠it was you who saved her, wasnât it?â
By the lack of surprise or questioning on his face, she knew her answer. They stayed silent for a few more seconds, Eun-yu waiting for an answer and Hyun-su trying to provide one. Though his face remained monotonous, he was trying to come up with an answer that wouldnât give her too much information but would satisfy her concern and need to know.Â
âWe crossed paths. I figured since we werenât strangers I might as well help her out. I know what itâs like. She doesnât deserve that kind of a death. Thatâs it. Nothing more,â he looked at her, making sure his words werenât just floating in one ear and out the other. âYou understand?âÂ
Without waiting for her to respond, he turned around again, rolling his eyes.
âI have to get back to-âÂ
âThatâs bullshit and we both know it!â Eun-yu yelled from behind him, interrupting his thoughts. She took fast purposeful steps toward him as she continued to speak. âYouâre in love with her, she was your everythin-!â
Hyun-su brought his wing down and scraped the concrete behind him, only a few feet away from where Eun-yu was standing. She held her breath, waiting for his next move and cursing herself for the shiver of fear that ran up her spine at his actions.
âYou would never fear him like this.â
Seeing him not make any more moves, she tried again. Prying her feet off the floor from where the strange acid was kicked up by the large appendage, she started walking again only for Hyun-su to slam his wing down again. This time, the toe of her front boot had melted off and she could see the black socks she wore underneath peeking through. She mentally slapped herself for how the breath she let out was shaky. Forcing herself to peel her boots off the ground again, she tried to take another step when suddenly a hand latched onto her bicep and pulled her back, sending her tumbling to the ground.Â
âAre you trying to get yourself killed?â The large man, Ho-sang+ asked. His shoulders were draped with a homemade camouflage outfit made of grass and hay. The man raised his shotgun, aiming it toward Hyun-su who had still yet to turn around. âYou monster piece of shit, what are you doing here?â The boy turned to look over his shoulder at the new voice. âGet gone!â
Right as Hyun-su turned back around to keep walking, Eun-yu spoke up again.
âWait!â She scrambled to her feet, intending on running over to Hyun-su but the older man grabbed her shoulders and held her back. âCha Hyun-su. Cha Hyun-su!â He came to a halt again and it was enough of a tell he was waiting for her to continue. âSheâŚâ she began, hesitating to tell him this in case her gut feeling was wrong. âSheâs been missing for months. Do you know⌠I mean⌠is sheâŚâ She couldn't force herself to get her words out, only able to speak in between shaky breaths as she started to think of the worst possible outcomes. If her gut feeling was wrong and you werenât really with Hyun-su, she didnât know what she would do. Â
Hyun-su turned back around to look at her over his shoulder. Keeping eye contact with her for a few moments as he debated whether to tell her or not, he relented.
âSheâs alive.â
Turning back around, he could hear the breaths of relief Eun-yu and the older man both released, albeit for different reasons.Â
Following Ah-yi, they both walked away from the two humans. He waited until they got to the edge of the river to start talking.
âWhy did you do that?â
âI don't like her,â Ah-yi responded.
âSo why don't you like her?â He pushed,Â
âEvery human is the same. Sheâs no different,â she yelled angrily before her voice dropped to a mumble he was just barely able to hear. âThe only human to be an exception is Unni.â
Hyun-su looked at her when she stopped, the anger being shown clearly on her face and he was confused about why she was so riled up. The quiet atmosphere was only interrupted by the hooting of the owls in the nearby trees.Â
âI was curious about humans at first⌠because both Mom and Unni are human. So I said âhiâ and theyâŚâ She took a shaky breath in before continuing. âThey hurt me. They yelled and they pushed and... and they hurt me too. And they killed all my friends and monsters!â She screamed out, her voice heavy with raw emotion. âLeaving just me.â
âThey were just scared,â Hyun-su tried to soothe her anger and pain as her eyes filled with tears. âAfraid of losing someone.â
âThen I'll give them a reason. Show them how scary it was,â her heavy breathing slowly evened out and Hyun-su sighed. He knew you would be able to help her with a situation like this better than he would. From the very first day, you always seemed to have a way of calming her down and helping her through the more difficult times.
âLet's get out of here. Yeah?â He suggested as tears began to fall down her cheeks, hitting the pavement below with an imperceptible plop.Â
âThere's no place for me. My house is gone,â she told him.Â
âWhat⌠do you mean?â He asked after a few silent beats.Â
âI⌠no longer need you. Not you, or MomâŚâ she paused to calm herself but couldnât stop the sob that came with her next words. âOr Unni. Not anymore.â
Hyun-su let out a slight gasp before sprinting in the direction of the boat. He hoped his suspicions were wrong. He hoped Ah-yi wouldnât do that to her mother.
But he knew she would.
Heâd heard the countless nights you spent with her in your arms as you consoled her and reassured her about her motherâs love when she was positive it no longer existed. He knew how much she hated the woman who gave birth to her, hated her for the love she once had but lost on that fateful day.Â
Hyun-su ignored the sharp pain in his lungs as he sprinted toward the boat, cursing lightly when he saw the fire engulfing it from afar. Finally reaching it, he ran around looking desperately for Yi-kyung and screaming her name.Â
It wasnât until he found both her and you lying on the ground that his panic started to take over.Â
âLucky!â He screamed, running towards you and dropping to his knees. He quickly picked both of you up, the weight not a struggle for him but the positioning of your bodies being a bit awkward. He ended up with Yi-kyung on his back piggyback style and you being held in his arms like his bride. Seeing the small creature passed out only a few feet away, he picked it up too and put it on your lap as he walked off the boat, letting the home full of memories burn itself to the ground forevermore.Â
Hyun-su walked towards the swan boat about a quarter mile away from the boat. Gently setting Yi-kyung down first, he placed you down with your head in his lap. He cursed himself. He couldnât believe he had just left you alone. He couldnât believe you would go into such a dangerous place willingly.Â
But then again, he couldnât be surprised. You were like that, so selfless and kind. If you saw the boat on fire you would never allow yourself to stay behind while there was a potential of the people you loved being on that boat.Â
He was thankful you at least were smart enough to cover your nose and mouth when you were there. The ripped and slightly scorched shirt covering Yi-kyungâs mouth was one he recognized to be yours. And although it wasnât a great replacement, he saw how the cuff of your jacket sleeve was loosely placed over your own mouth, slipping once youâd fallen unconscious.Â
As he was picking the bits of seared wood and singed fabric from your hair, a small whisper of his name drew his attention behind him to Yi-kyung.
âHyun-suâŚâ
He turned around, making sure not to jostle you around too much as he looked at her. Her face was burned, fresh wounds scarring the flesh of her cheeks that would forever alter her appearance.Â
âAre you okay, Yi-kyung?â
âItâs all my fault itâs like this,â she started. Hyun-su stayed silent as she continued. âI just wanted her to be safe like you were,â she whimpered, it was unclear whether it was from the pain on her skin or the pain in her heart. âAll I wanted was for her toâŚâ she sobbed but no tears came out yet. She was dehydrated and wounded and it was clear she wouldnât make it without medical help they no longer had.Â
âIt wasnât your fault,â Hyun-su refuted.
Yi-kyung groaned as she sat up, leaning heavily against the edge of the swan boat. âI shouldâve killed her.â
Hyun-suâs eyes widened at her words. While he knew that was what she had wanted when her baby was first born, he didnât know it was still something she thought about.Â
âIn the back of my mind, I always had that thought. I know she mustâve felt it when I had those thoughts,â she breathed heavily, her breaths sounding gritty and labored. She looked at the girl lying in Hyun-suâs lap, feeling angry, regretful, and jealous, but mostly grateful. Grateful she had at least you to look up to and show her the way when she couldnât. âI know she would always tell her about how she hated me,â she pointed at you weakly. âI know she always saw her as more of a mother than she did me.âÂ
âYouâre wrong,â Hyun-su protested. âWhile Ah-yi loves Lucky, she needs you as her mother. I know because I was there too through all those days,â he looked down at you, eyes still shut and sweat clinging to your skin. âSo was she,â he breathed out a sigh and looked back at Yi-kyung. âYou said you were a bad mother, but you know thatâs just not true.â
âThe fault is all mine,â tears fell down her cheeks as she spoke, a soothing touch to her wounded face. âI was the one who made her like this,â she blamed herself, Hyun-suâs reassuring words either not registering in her brain or being completely ignored. âNo, this is good,â she accepted. She knew her end would be soon. âIt turning out like this is for the best. This way, I⌠I donât have to kill my daughter.,â she sobbed.
âWere you really going to kill her?â He asked incredulously. At her lack of response, he continued. âWhy? Youâre her mother! So why?âÂ
âI donât deserve to be,â she cut him off. âI could never be worthy of her, not when I treated her so differently than you did. Than she did,â she explained. She couldnât fathom saying your name, feeling unworthy of being near you when she always had those terrible thoughts of hurting her own flesh and blood. You had always treated her so much better than she had, treating her like your own daughter, whether it was by blood or not. âI had the same thought hundreds of times. âWhy is she cursed like this?â Why?â She started sobbing again, the guilt and blame she put on herself for the past year torturing her soul. âItâs all my fault. My awful thoughts and desires turned her⌠into a⌠monster.â
Hyun-su scoffed. âYeah, so what?â He looked at her and the surprise of his words stopped her crying. âAre monsters really all bad?â
Yi-kyung sighed and just as Hyun-su was going to continue talking, the soft babbling of the baby monster sounded out again, drawing both their attention to the mini creature. He gently picked it up, holding it in his arms as he spoke again. âThis one saved you. Saved both of you. Saved you because youâre familyâŚâ his eyes filled with tears but he refused to let his voice break. âYou see, monsters feel and recognize people. Because they were human once too.â
He hugged the monster to his chest, and the conversation ended when Yi-kyung faded out of consciousness.Â
The group sat around the campfire, Ha-ni snuggled up against Chan-youngâs side while the other two sat alone.
âSo, which is it?â Eun-yu asked. âA brother? A boss? A dad? What are you to each other?â
âWhy the hell does it matter? Just eat and get lost,â the older man evaded the question.Â
âUm⌠why donât you come back with us? Youâll be safer there,â Park Chan-young offered and Ha-niâs head perked up in excitement.Â
âAre we getting married then?â She asked, moving closer to his side and resting her head against his shoulder.
âUh, thatâs⌠thatâs not what Iâm saying,â he repudiated.Â
âSafe? You guys have just been lucky,â the older man rolled his eyes at the suggestion. âThat, or you donât know better.â
âI think you might be underestimating some of us.â
âI donât trust humans, okay?â He concluded.
âIâm not surprised. But you donât trust monsters either?â Eun-yu integrated herself into the conversation once more. âAnd what about her?â She asked, tilting her head at Ha-ni. âYou trust her?â He didnât respond and it was silent for a minute. âSure seems like it.â
Ha-ni, noticing how the atmosphere was turning strange and uncomfortable, interrupted. âLetâs go with them. Letâs go together, teacher, hmm?â She insisted, leaning forward in her seat to emphasize her wants. âHey, letâs go!â
The older man looked thoughtful for a moment, considering his companionâs words before noticing something in the distance.Â
âWhat are you doing here?â He screamed accusingly, raising his shotgun threateningly toward the figure approaching.Â
Hyun-su walked forward. Yi-kyung was tied against his back using the long-sleeved shirt you used to cover your mouth in the fire meanwhile you were held in his arms, cradled against his chest protectively.Â
He raised his head slightly to look at them, continuing his stride forward despite the threat of the gun in front of him.Â
In the blink of an eye, Ha-ni appeared next to Ho-sang as he held the gun and moved his arms, forcing it to face the ground just as he pulled the trigger. It hit the rocks harmlessly and she looked at Hyun-su curiously.Â
Taking a deep breath, he slowly lowered himself to his knees and placed Yi-kyung on the ground after untying her. Keeping you in his arms as he rose again, he held you close as Eun-yu rushed forward. Stopping just a foot in front of him, she looked down at you in shock. She reached her hand out to caress your cheek but stopped herself at the last second.Â
âPlease help,â Hyun-su begged and Eun-yu lifted her chin to look at him. âThis was the only place I could turn to.â
Both Chan-young and Ha-ni walked over to where Yi-kyung was lying on the ground, kneeling down to properly assess the damage on her body.Â
âHow did she get like this? And the kid? The girl who left with you?â Eun-yu asked before looking down at you still in Hyun-suâs arms and finally allowing her fingers to skim along the feverish skin of your cheek as she whispered your name, stunned. âAnd what about her? Is she okay? Why isnât she awake?â
âFirst, letâs get them both inside,â Chan-young stopped her questioning before Hyun-su could respond. Ha-ni helped him prop the woman on her back, fully intending to bring her into the trailer until a gunshot sounded.Â
Eun-yu froze in shock, paralyzed by seeing Hyun-su stumble back with a gunshot to the shoulder. He fell to his knees once more, his grip on you loosening but refusing to let go. He gently set your lower body down onto his lap, his now free hand going to hold his wounded shoulder while the other held your upper body to his chest. He ignored the anger that stirred in his chest when he saw how close the shot came to your face, just missing by a few inches. Clenching his eyes closed tightly and blocking out the sound of everyone talking and screaming around him, he forced the familiar feeling of his monster down. When he finally looked up and opened his eyes he saw Eun-yu holding Ha-ni against her chest with blade centimeters from her neck.Â
â- and Iâll cut her fucking head off.â
Ha-ni scoffed at her words with an annoyed smile but didnât try to fight back or move away.Â
âWay to prove my point about humans,â Ho-sang told her, not lowering his gun. âPulling this shit after I saved your life is rich.â
âI said Iâll take him with me. I said Iâll take them so just⌠what's your problem?â Eun-yu begged the man, tears forming along her waterline as the situation continued to go downhill.Â
âYouâre with monsters,â Ho-sang explained, glaring at her from his spot. âThat makes you a threat. And you call yourself human? Jesus.â
âYou call yourself human when you just almost shot a girl in the face? He might not be human but she is!â She screamed at him and continued when she saw the flicker of guilt in his eyes. âAnd what makes you special? How can you be sure youâre gonna stay immune?â She questioned but he stayed silent. âWhat if you were to start showing symptoms? Seems a bullet is your only option. Since monsters have to die.â
Hyun-su groaned in pain before trying to stop her from baiting the man. âStop it,â his words were spoken weakly as more blood spilled from his wound. He covered it with the fabric of his shirt, trying to avoid getting as much blood on you as possible but the splatters of blood across your forehead and cheeks told him it was already a bit too late for that.Â
âAnd her?â Eun-yu continued, ignoring the boyâs warnings and protests as she started to speak about Ha-ni. âCould you put a bullet in her?â Her words were spoken softly but Ho-sang heard it loud and clear. He stayed quiet again, not willing to speak of the situation he feared the most. âHow about I save you the trouble?â She offered.
âOh, yeah. So this is who you are,â he finally spoke, nodding in disdain at her actions.Â
âStop it,â Hyun-su tried again but again was ignored. âDonât do this Eun-yu,â he begged.Â
Suddenly, Ha-ni grabbed the wrist holding the knife to her throat, and twisted it away from herself, spinning around so the knife was now in her possession and the tip was pointing directly at Eun-yuâs neck. There was a collective gasp from everyone watching and Ho-sang lowered his guns in shock. âHa-ni!â He yelled at her as she stuck the point of the blade in Eun-yuâs neck, causing a trail of blood to leak out.Â
After a moment of tense silence, she pulled the knife away and dropped it to the floor where it clattered against the rocks loudly. Pushing her forward, she walked over and entered her car, entering it and called for Ho-sang to join her.Â
âIn this life, we werenât meant to be,â she started, talking to Chan-young as her companion got into the car and started it up. âMaybe the next one. Get rid of the girl though.â
The group watched as the two drove off before Chan-young turned to Hyun-su. âAre you okay to move? Howâs your shoulder?â
Hyun-su pulled his hand away, the wound already having closed and the blood surrounding it was the only reminder that it was ever there in the first place. He nodded. âItâs okay.â
Chan-young took a few steps closer to him before kneeling beside him and looking at where you rested in his arms. The pain from your ankle and slight burns showed on your leg but you luckily didnât seem to have any difficulty breathing or major damage. âAnd her? Are you still okay to carry her?âÂ
Hyun-su nodded once again while he moved his empty hand to once again rest under your knees and stood up. âYes, Iâm okay.â
âI think weâd better go. Monsters may have heard the gunfire,â Chan-young concluded and walked behind Hyun-su as he started the path to his chosen destination, whatever that place may be.
Eun-yu kneeled down to grab her bag and knife before looking back at Hyun-su. âLetâs go.â
He sighed as she started to walk behind him, taking a moment to look at you and make sure you were alright before he followed. He would have to wipe his shoulder down and clean the blood from your face before you woke up. He didnât feel like worrying you about his injury just yet.Â
Sighing once more, he turned around and started to follow the two.Â
They arrived at the destination Chan-young had brought them to. It was a hospital, or at least it used to be. As they got inside, there was broken glass everywhere and scratches from an unnatural creature lining the floor. It was clear it was no longer the medical place it used to be.Â
Setting Yi-kyung down on the hospital bed they found, Chan-young turned to Hyun-su and asked, âWhat happened to her?â
âA fire started where she was staying,â he started to explain, still holding you since all the other hospital beds they could find were not exactly clean. At least the one Yi-kyung was lying on didnât have any blood stains on it. He didnât mind though. âI think there was no way out. She was already unconscious by the time I made it in.â
âItâs carbon monoxide poisoning,â Chan-young concluded from the evidence provided before standing up urgently and turning to Eun-yu. âSomething like a small gas tank should be lying around. Go look for some,â he then turned to Hyun-su who was getting ready to stand and help them. âYou should probably stay here,â he told him and Hyun-su stayed silent for a moment as he looked at you in his arms before nodding in agreement. He moved to lean against the wall as the other two went off in different directions to search for the gas tank.Â
After a while, there was the faint sound of someone yelling, âI found one!â Soon after, both Eun-yu and Chan-young returned to the bed, the boy carrying a gas tank in his hands which he set up next to it. Expertly, he plugged the tube into the tank and turned the air on, testing the pressure and how much oxygen was left in the tank.Â
âDoes it work?â Eun-yu asked just as the arrow pointed to âREFILLâ and Chan-young sighed. âWhat? What is it?â
âItâs out of oxygen,â he explained.
âSo what happens now?â
âHer organs will start to fail without⌠without a steady supply of oxygen,â he told them before his head fell forward. âFuck me.â
âEnough of that crap. Is there any other way?â Eun-yu begged, unwillingly to give up so soon.Â
âItâs already too late.â
âDonât say that unless youâve tried everything,â she told him seriously, she then moved over to start picking Yi-kyung up by her arms. âPark Chan-young, help me carry her. Letâs get her to the stadium. We have to leave now,â she ordered but he didnât move and Hyun-su just buried his head in your hair emotionally. âI said help me carry her!â She sobbed, setting her back down when he still didnât try to help her and covering her face with her hands.Â
The group just finished moving both you and Yi-kyung to another room, this one finally having another bed that wasnât stained with blood and smelling of a rotting corpse. Chan-young helped Eun-yu carry Yi-kyung to the room while Hyun-su held you close, only letting you go when they found the bed for you to lie on.Â
Despite how his monster body protested, he allowed Eun-yu to have a moment alone with you and Yi-kyung in the room, choosing instead to wait on the bench outside. He saw through the crack in the door how she held your hand gently and spoke words he couldnât hear. He watched as she set your hand down across your stomach and retreated from the room to sit on the bench with him, leaving an empty seat between them.Â
âAre you feeling better?â Hyun-su asked her once she sat down. She sighed quietly and he took that as her response. âWe did the best we could.â
âAre you comfortable with this?â She asked him, not understanding how he could be so calm in a moment like this. âIs leaving her to die like that really the right thing to do?â
âNow that I think about it⌠I think itâs what she wanted,â he construed and she turned her head to look at him.Â
âWhat?â
âHer boat was deliberately burned, but she chose to stay aboard.â
âWhy, though?â Eun-yu whispered. âWhy would Yi-kyung do that?â
âI wanna ask you something,â Hyun-su told her and she stayed quiet as she waited for him to speak. âHowâs everyone doing? Iâve tried asking Lucky but she always gets really quiet when I do.â
Eun-yuâs lips quirked up minutely at the familiar term of endearment but the memory of her grief overwhelmed it. She took a few deep breaths to compose herself before answering him. âHye-in and Su-yeong are dead. And Yoon Ji-su, too.â
Now Hyun-su knew why you would never talk about it, why you would always get quiet and have that far-away look in your eyes when he asked. He always figured you just didnât know, that maybe you got separated at some point, but somewhere deep down he knew that was just wishful thinking. While he hated that you didnât confide in him, he understood where you were coming from. Even a year isnât always enough time to heal enough to talk about something so tragic.Â
âJust like that, theyâre all gone,â she continued in a whisper. He turned his head away from her as a tear fell down his cheek before she spoke up more loudly this time, masking the emotion in her voice with false confidence. âNow let me ask you a question,â she said. He turned to look at her but she was looking in the direction of where you lay on the hospital bed, head tilted to the side as you breathed easily. âHow is she doing, really? Is she better?â Her voice almost broke as she unwillingly thought back to how you were feeling during your time in the stadium but she was able to mask it with a cough. While she was hoping you were doing better now that you were with Hyun-su and hopefully didnât blame yourself for his disappearance anymore, she had to be sure.
âSheâs doing good. She still has her bad days but overall sheâs doing better.â
She breathed a sigh of relief, a single tear falling down her cheek. âThank you.â
He turned his head to look back at her and saw she was now staring at him. âHm?â
âYou brought her back to me. I donât know what I would do if I didnât at least see her one more time. If I didnât make sure she was still alive. So thank you.âÂ
He nodded. âOf course.â
âI also,â she continued. âWant to thank you for returning to her,â she shot him a watery smile as her eyes brimmed with tears. âGod knows she deserves it.â
When you woke up, the first things you saw were the blaring lights of the white lighting fixture above you. Groaning, you brought a hand up to cover your eyes and turned your head only to gasp when you saw the burned face of Yi-kyung on the bed next to yours. Quickly throwing your legs over the side of the bed and standing up to check on her, you let out a yelp of pain as you stepped on your wounded ankle and crumpled to the floor.Â
Breathing heavily, you cursed yourself before hearing the sound of fast-paced footsteps entering the room you were in. You leaned up on one hand and saw a face youâd longed to see for weeks.Â
âEun-yu?â
The girl snapped her head to where you sat and gasped out your name, running toward you and crouching down. She grabbed your arms and helped you stand up, making you sit on the edge of the bed so she could check out your foot.Â
âHow are you feeling?â She asked, concerned but all you could think about was the woman breathing unevenly on the bed behind her.Â
âFine, fine,â you said dismissively, only half listening to her concerns. âHow is Yi-kyung? Is she okay?â
Eun-yu slapped your arm lightly. âYou were passed out for half a day, let me worry about you.â
You gave a small chuckle at her words, reaching your arms out to wrap around her shoulders. âItâs good to see you, Eun-yu. Iâve missed you.â
She exhaled slowly, wrapping her own arms around you and letting herself relax in your embrace.Â
âWait, what am I doing here?â You asked as you softly pushed her away from you. âWhat are you doing here? Why arenât you at the stadium? Are you okay?â You gasped, firing questions at her like a machine gun prior to grabbing the sides of her puffy jacket sleeves and pulling her a few inches closer as you looked her over for any injuries. Other than the small wound on her neck, she seemed to be relatively unharmed.
âThat doesnât matter right now,â she scolded lightly and lifted your wounded and swollen ankle up. âFirst, we should fix this up. Iâm sure thereâs some tape or something around here,â she started to walk away but turned back to look at you. âDonât move,â she scolded with a finger pointed at you accusingly. You held your hands up in a surrender motion and laughed.Â
After a while of looking around the room, she walked back with a wad of medical tape in her hand. You watched in awe as she started to expertly wrap your foot with the medical tape in a way that would help keep it in place. Noticing your stare, she explained. âI used to do ballet. I sprained my ankle and had to do this every day.â
âWell lucky me then,â you told her with a smile that she returned once she finished. She then cut the ripped pant leg off at the knee and cut the singed parts off. Using the burned-free part of the fabric, she gave you her hand to squeeze as she poured the clear liquid inside a bottle of vodka on your burns. You screamed and stuffed your sleeve into your mouth, both stopping yourself from breaking your teeth and muffling your pained noises. After finishing disinfecting the wound, she got to work on wrapping the cut fabric around your burns to prevent any further dirt from entering it.
Breathing heavily through your pain, you grabbed the nearly empty bottle of vodka after she set it down and lifted it to your nose.Â
It looked like vodka.
It smelled like vodka.
Taking a sip, your face scrunched up in displeasure.Â
Definitely vodka, although something was off.Â
âWhy is it so watery?â You asked her. Eun-yuâs head snapped up to see you bring the bottle to your lips again to take another sip.Â
Grabbing the bottle away from you, she smirked and brought the bottle to her lips, drinking the last of the liquid while you whined. After sighing overexaggeratedly, she smiled at you and handed the bottle back to you. You shot her a glare âFor one, when are you ever going to find a steal like that again? Had to make sure it lasted!â You laughed. âAnd second, regular vodka is too potent to use as a disinfectant by itself, you have to water it down so you donât burn away your nerves.â
She secured the fabric with the medical tape and tapped your knee to signal she was finished. She helped you down from the table and let you wrap an arm around her shoulder as you limped over to the bench outside of the room. You thanked her just as you saw another familiar face appear around the corner. âPark Chan-young? What are you doing here?â
âAh, youâre awake! How are you feeling?â He asked instead of answering your question.Â
âIâm feeling okay, my ankle hurts a little but not too bad,â you told him with a smile before it faded and your head turned to look at Yi-kyung through the still-opened door. âSheâs not going to make it, she?â
You heard the two of them sigh behind you and you let out a shaky breath. Tilting your head up, you tried to stop the tears from falling.Â
It was silent for a while, the only sounds were the ragged breathing from Yi-kyung in the next room until Chan-young spoke.Â
âCha Hyun-su, was it?â He asked and your head snapped up to look at him while Eun-yu who was sitting beside you didnât even flinch. âThatâs the monster that killed Mr. Kim, right?â
You opened your mouth to ask what he meant when Eun-yu spoke before you could.
âIt gets on my nerves when you use the word âkillâ.â
He sat down next to her and leaned forward in his chair with his elbows resting on his knees. âWell, nonetheless, thatâs how it went down.â
âYour curiosity will cost you someday,â at his silence to her words, she sighed and continued. âMr. Kim was displaying symptoms.â
The news of this story was no surprise to you. While you werenât there when it happened, you do remember how Eun-yu had relayed the story to you only a few nights after the incident. You didnât know she knew it was Hyun-su though, and to be honest you felt slightly betrayed.Â
âI donât know when itâd begun.â
âWait,â Chan-young started, gasping at the new information. âBut why didnât you say anything? You were branded as a murderer.â
âThe Chief and I have had⌠a long-standing grudge. Yet we all lived because she opened the stadium to us. I canât deny that. I just couldnât screw her over like that.â
You quietly gasped. Despite the information not being new to you, you hadnât known the reason she never spoke up was because of that.Â
âLee Eun-yu,â Chan-young said softly.
âEun-yu, you shouldnât have done that to yourself,â you scolded her quietly.Â
âDonât get me wrong. That wasnât the only reason,â she continued, leaning back in her seat. âI didnât know it was Hyun-su, but⌠either way, I didnât want to tell Crow Platoon.â
Oh. So Eun-yu didnât know it was Hyun-su. That definitely made you feel better than the idea of her knowing this entire time and just not telling you.Â
When a sudden gasp was heard from the room Yi-kyung was in, all of your heads snapped up and Chan-young and Eun-yu rushed into the room. You stood up, hopping over to lean against the entrance when you slipped.Â
Just as your hand missed grabbing the frame of the door, you felt an arm wrap around your waist and pull you back up. Turning your head to look at your savior, you were surprised to see Hyun-su with his arm supporting you and Ah-yi standing beside him, looking at you with just as surprised eyes as you were at her. The boy moved you so you were propped up against the door frame before he stepped into the room.Â
âCould you step outside for a moment?â He asked the two as they stood beside Yi-kyungâs bed. They hesitated but eventually made their way out of the room. As Hyun-su walked up to the woman, leaning over her as she breathed raggedly, you wrapped your arms around Ah-yi and brought her into a hug.Â
âOh sweetie, Iâm so sorry,â you expressed your condolences before pushing her away just enough so you could see her face. âHow are you doing?â You asked her as you caressed her cheek and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.Â
She shrugged her shoulders, looking away unconvincingly. âIâm fine. She hated me anyway. I only came for Oppa.â
You tsked and brought her back into your embrace. âYou and I both know thatâs not true.â
She didnât respond and Hyun-su turned back to look at the two of you, motioning for Ah-yi to walk in. As she passed by you, you smoothed down the back of her hair and squeezed her shoulder reassuringly.Â
Hyun-su walked past her, letting her have her final moment alone with her mother on her deathbed. Instead, he walked over to you, wrapping his arm around your waist to help you walk as you all moved further down the hall to give the girl some space. Once he decided it was far away enough, he moved you over to the wall so you could lean against it and stood beside you. You leaned your head against his shoulder, wanting to give and gain comfort from the action. You all stayed there, silently, for a few minutes until Ah-yi walked down the hall.Â
Hyun-su popped off the wall and she turned to face the two of you, mainly Hyun-su as he started to speak. âWhy are you out here already?â
You leaned forward, grabbing onto his arm to support you as you looked at her. âYou should stay with her a while longer,â you insisted softly. Her eyes fluttered down to where the medical tape peeked out above your shoe and the pant leg was taped in place around your calf before she fluttered her eyes back up to yours.Â
âMomâs not going to die. So stop crying, please.â
The way she said it gave you a bad feeling and the clattering that came from the direction of the room didnât help to ease it. Hyun-su turned, making sure you were balanced before rushing over to the room. You glanced at Ah-yi before heading that direction as well, having Eun-yu and Chan-young help you.
âYi-kyung!â You heard Hyun-su exclaim just as you all got to the doorway. When you looked into the room, you saw Hyun-su on the ground with Yi-kyung held in his arms while tears fell down his cheeks.Â
You covered your mouth in horror as your own tears started to form. You stayed there, supported only by the door as you all cried over the loss of your friend.Â
Your eyes shot open when you heard the sound of bones cracking. Her head was thrown backward and her back arched to the point where you were sure that was the bone-breaking sound you heard. The skin on the left side of her body started to turn black, almost as if ash had been painted across it. She started thrashing around, her body contorting inhumanely and her skin releasing a dark, unnatural smoke. As she rolled onto her stomach the bones in her back crunched loudly and she shot up.Â
You barely had enough time to move out of the way before she ran into the door you were leaning on. Disoriented and dizzy, you couldnât bring yourself to focus on what was happening around you until you heard the ringing of a gunshot and Yi-kyungâs half-monsterized body fell backward at the waist.Â
âNo, donât do that!â Hyun-su screamed, rushing forward and moving Chan-youngâs hands away while he held fast to the gun.Â
âItâs too late for her. Sheâs already gone!â Chan-young yelled at him.Â
You looked back at the woman to see the gunshot wound already gone, now covered with the same black markings that covered one half of her body. âH-Hyun-su,â you whimpered weakly and both men turned to look back at Yi-kyung. You let out a soft sob as you saw the tear slide down her face.Â
âYi-kyung,â Hyun-su whispered and she raised a hand toward him. Reaching for him, she started to walk forward before her other arm, the remaining human arm, reached out to grab her own hand, almost as if to pull her back. âYou guys should go back,â he whispered to you all. âTake Lucky with you, she canât walk on her own.â
âNo! Not without you!â You protested but Hyun-su didnât turn to face you. Eun-yu looked at you hesitantly before turning back to him.Â
âWhat about Yi-kyung?â She let out through a sob. âHow could she turn so suddenly? She wasnât showing any symptoms.â
âHer daughter did this to her,â he explained hurriedly.
âAh-yiâŚâ you whispered in realization.Â
âShe turns people to monsters?â Chan-young questioned, still aiming the gun at Yi-kyung. âMonsterization is uncontrollable by humans.â
âSheâs not a human,â you said lowly.Â
âWhat the hell are you talking about?â Eun-yu screamed at you just as Yi-kyung rushed forward to jump out the window of the room behind you.Â
âLeave! Now!â He yelled at them before jumping out the window after her.Â
âHyun-su, no!â You cried out, trying to lift yourself to your feet to no avail. Eun-yu and Chan-young, ran to the broken window, looking out as you continued to struggle. âEun-yu!â You screamed at her and she turned around to face you with widened eyes. âPlease! You have to help him! Donât let him get hurt, please,â you begged her.
She nodded, determined. Turning to Chan-young, he nodded at her and they set off in the direction of the stairs to the bottom floor.Â
You sat against the glass doors of the room Hyun-su was resting in. For the first hour, you were in there with him, holding him while he cried. After he fell asleep, though, you decided to give him some space. You waited outside, leaning your head back against the cool surface of the glass with your uninjured leg bent and held to your chest while the other was extended outward.Â
Down the hall, you could see Eun-yu watching you until Chan-young approached her. You looked away as you saw them staring at you. Both had sympathy lacing their gazes that you couldnât stand to see. Sympathy meant you had something they felt sympathetic towards. You didnât want to think of what that thing was. All you wanted was to be back at your shed, doing laundry with Hyun-su while Ah-yi sat down on the edge of the river bank with her feet dipping into the water.Â
But those days were over, at least for the time being.
âWhat are you gonna do now?â Park Chan-young asked Eun-yu, her gaze still locked onto your form curled up across the hallway.Â
âI donât know,â she admitted. âI found her, and sheâs alright. Thatâs good enough for me. I know sheâs in good hands with Cha Hyun-su. I donât want her to come back to the stadium with us. Not when she was so miserable there,â she told him, thinking for a moment before giving a conclusive answer. âIâm gonna wait for Hyun-su to wake up. Iâll wait with her until then. Then Iâll say my goodbyes and return to the stadium. You?â
âI should get back there,â he decided. âIâve been gone for too long.â
She nodded in agreement. âYeah.â
Chan-young gave a final look back at where you sat now with both your knees bent and your face buried in your arms. âSend them my regards, both of them,â he told her and she nodded up at him. âIâll see you at camp.â
With a moment of hesitation, he turned in the direction of the stairs and started walking toward them.Â
It had been a couple of hours since Hyun-su fell asleep. Eun-yu had dozed off about an hour ago but you couldnât bring yourself to shut your eyes for too long. So you sat there, your eyes staring off into the distance, unfocused and blurred. It wasnât until the sun started to set, the light shining through the blinds of the windows and casting a golden orange glow onto the tile floor that you snapped out of your daze. Carefully bringing yourself to a standing position, you turned around, opened the door, and walked through. Your eyes immediately went to where Hyun-su was previously lying down, but when you didnât find him there, you panicked. Raising your eyes, you let out a breath of relief when you saw him sitting on the bed next to the windows, leaning back on his right arm and swaying slightly.Â
âHyun-su?â You asked softly but received no response. Walking closer, you saw his eyes were closed as he continued to sway. It seemed like he was barely conscious and his body kept falling right before he caught it, over and over again. Reaching the point that you were standing right in front of him, you reached up to place your hand on his right cheek, a feeling he immediately leaned into. âOh, lovely,â you whispered. âLetâs get you back to bed.â
About to pull your hand away from his cheek to clear the pillows and blankets piled on the bed behind him, you stopped when his left hand shot up and grabbed onto your wrist, keeping you in place. Confused and concerned, you brought your other hand up to hold his other cheek. âHyun-su?â You asked. âAre you okay?â
He slowly opened his eyes and you gasped once you saw them.Â
Youâd only seen him like this once before and it was after he protected you from a particularly strong monster. Halfway through the battle, all of his mannerisms changed and he moved completely differently. It wasnât until the monster ran away, Hyun-su covered in its blood yet not a scratch on him, that you saw his eyes.Â
You werenât scared. You could never be scared.Â
Not of him.Â
Never of him.Â
But it did surprise you.Â
After he returned to his normal self, he told you about how he tried to never go into that state of being because he wasnât in full control. Despite the honest way you told him he would never hurt you and that you trusted him, he still kept the monster side of him tucked away as much as possible.Â
It seemed that wasnât the case right now, though.Â
âWhy are you here?â You whispered to him, your voice not at all accusing or scared, not even a little bit tentative.Â
âYou donât want me here?â He questioned. It was so strange to see Hyun-suâs body and hear Hyun-suâs voice but know it wasnât him, at least not completely.Â
âI didnât say that,â you told him, your eyes lightly scolding him in a way that made his lips quirk. âI just asked why you were here. Is heâŚâ you hesitated, still unsure of how to fully phrase questions when he was in this state. âAre you okay?â
âHeâs hurt. Let him rest for a bit,â he explained as he leaned more into your palm. His grip on your wrist hadnât been all too tight to begin with but it still softened to a loose hold as he kept eye contact with you.Â
You nodded at his words, brushing your thumb along his cheekbone and your lips curving into a subtle smile when his eyes closed contently. âIs that why youâre here?â You whispered, not wanting to break the calm atmosphere. His eyes opened again and he stared at you. âTo help him with the pain?â He nodded and you sighed. It wasnât the physical pain on his body either of you meant, and you both knew that. The pain of losing Yi-kyung, and then losing her again at his own hands was too much for him. It most certainly would have been too much for you, so you couldnât blame him. Not that you would have anyway.
He tightened the grip he had on your wrist and gently brought it away from his cheek before releasing it completely. He turned his head to look forward in the mirror in front of him and used the hand once holding your wrist to move the collar of his shredded jacket away from his shoulder. You winced as you saw the wounded skin there, bringing a hand up to do something but hesitating. Instead, you looked around the room before your eyes lit up as you found what you were looking for. You released his face from the hand still holding his cheek and turned around, taking a step forward with your good foot. He leaned forward, leaning off his right hand and using it to grab ahold of your wrist. You looked back at him.Â
âStay,â he said simply and you smiled.
âIâm not going far.â
He held onto your wrist for a while longer before softly sliding it down to the tips of your fingers and slowly releasing you, all the while keeping eye contact. You felt the heat rising to your cheeks and turned before he could tell how flustered you were at the simple action. Taking another step, you tried to hide the limp in your walk and mask the pain on your face as you grabbed the materials and returned to where he was seated. Setting the medical supplies down next to him, you reached for the pillow behind him and took off the pillowcase surrounding it. Grabbing the mostly empty bottle of rubbing alcohol, you poured some onto the pillowcase before using one hand to pull the collar away to reveal the dirty wound underneath.Â
You raised your gaze to his eyes only to find them already looking back at you. âThisâll probably sting,â you told him sorrowfully. You waited a moment for him to acknowledge your words but he just continued to stare at you with a blank, yet almost soft, look. You used your other hand to hold the alcohol-soaked pillowcase and bring it up to his wound where you carefully started dabbing away the blood and dirt. Looking over at him every few seconds to see if he was in pain, you found none each time whilst he didnât take his eyes off you. Once the blood was cleared away and the pillowcase was thoroughly stained, it was clear to see the wound was much smaller and less serious than it originally seemed. A fact that made you sigh in relief. Â
Before you could reach for the bandages to cover his wound with, Hyun-su grabbed your waist and pulled you to stand in between his legs.Â
âWha-?â You started to question but stopped when his arms wrapped around your waist in a hug. His head turned to the side and he rested it against your stomach. It didnât take long for you to return the hug, albeit a little confused and startled.Â
âYou know I love you, right?â
The sentence sounded slightly muffled, and you werenât sure which version of Hyun-su was speaking, but regardless, you answered, âI know.â
His arms tightened around you, a comforting and promising squeeze. âAnd you know Iâm never letting you go again,â he paused, turning to look up at you. It was both a surprise and yet not when you saw one of his eyes was still the bright blue he had in his monster form, but the other had returned to his natural brown. âRight?â
You placed your hands on his cheeks, leaning down to leave a tender kiss on his forehead.Â
âI know.â

hyunsu ? x gn!reader
genre: what. mutual pining?
warnings: sweet home 2 spoilers, mentions of blood, injuries. hyunsu himself is a warning lowkey if u watched the last ep u probably get it⌠thatâs all!
synopsis: You know Hyunsu so well. One year apart couldnât possibly change that. Except if Hyunsu isnât alone anymore.
authors note: realized at the end of this fic that i cld compare hyunsuâs current situation to venom like a little bit and that just makes everything so much easier somehow. anyways i donât really like this but i needed to post smt for him after s2 so!
One year ago, you and Cha Hyunsu wouldâve been sitting near the entrance of Green Home apartments, and he would be listening to you talk. One year ago, you wouldâve firmly believed that by now, the world wouldâve been restored to some kind of peace. It had, in a way, but certainly not in the one your past self would have hoped for. And certainly not the one Hyunsu wouldâve wanted for the two of you.
Nevertheless, you remained grateful through everythingâ As much as you could manage. The shelter was as organized as possible and conflict was a surprisingly rare occurence. Things were alright. As long as you didnât give time for the grief and terror to catch up to you.
But things couldnât be calm forever. Especially not in the current state of your world.
When Eunyu disappeared with that man from the military, it only took a day before you grew restless enough to depart from the stadium. After all, Eunyu was the closest thing to a friend you had here, at this point. It only felt right to try and find her. And you did, surprisingly, along with a few familiar faces and an unknown one.
You didnât expect for the evening you found your friend again to be the very same you would see the person you had considered closest to you at Green Home for the first time in⌠Over a year.
âFinally asleep.â you sighed quietly, watching Eunyu get the rest her body had probably been begging for. It was difficult to convince her you would stand watch and wait for your friend to wake up in her stead, but her exhaustion made her stop arguing eventually.
You turned towards the room he was in.
Cha Hyunsu.
You crossed your arms and sighed. One year without a single trace of him anywhere. And now he⌠Just reappears? You wanted to be surprised, but part of you really wasnât. You were angry, just a littleâ Spending all this time telling yourself he was gone, only for him to come back as if nothing happened felt like a slap to the face. Still, you couldnât blame him. Yet. You had no idea what happened to him during that time span.
You felt relieved, if anything.
After some hesitation, you walked over to the glass door. Your hand settled on the handle, pushing it open, before your eyes widened. Hyunsu was sitting on the hospital bed, stretching his neck quietly, not at all perturbed by anything. Hell, he even seemed peaceful.
More peaceful than youâd ever seen him.
You stepped inside quietly and let the door close behind you. Hyunsu continued to move his head, slowly, as if trying to relax, and didnât acknowledge your presence. His shoulder was bloodstained, still, and his hoodie had cuts here and there. Messy as he appeared, this was your friend from Green Home, there was no denying it. You hadnât even dared hope he could still be alive, after all this time. You couldnât give your heart such a high possibility of suffering if he turned out to be gone.
And now he was here. So calm.
He opened his eyes with a soft sigh, before turning his gaze to you. âFinally decided to talk to me?â he asked. His tone was different. Too different. This did not feel like the kind of change that happened in a year. He smiled a little at your silence, tilting his head curiously. âNo? Do you need more time? That would be too bad.â
He hopped off the bed with a huff and slowly walked over to you. The closer he got, the clearer it became that his eye color was different. Long gone was the blank, dark brown gaze that looked back at you when you two would talkâ Replaced by a vibrant sky blue. A stark contrast from what you were used to, as was everything else about him, apparently. Be it his tone or his mannerisms, it all felt deeply wrong, like it wasnât him at all. You furrowed your eyebrows but stood still, letting him walk to the very edge of your personal space.
âIâve been waiting to see you for such a long while.â
âHuh?â
Hyunsuâs eyes widened a little before he grinned. This wasnât ⌠Him. Not exactly, at least. Not the one you talked to so much. But special-cases, or MH, essentially coexisted in one body. The monster forms around a personâs strongest desire, or whatever it was that scientist at the shelter said.
So perhaps, all the times you and Hyunsu had talked in the past had also been conversations that this side of him had been listening to.
A bit scary. You couldnât really focus on that, though. You took a deep breath and looked at him.
âIs he well?â
He clicked his tongue, expression growing sour. âHeâs fine. Let him get some rest. Heâs tired.â
You nodded softly, gaze averting. That sounded fine enough to you. He was right, too, earlierâ You had been avoiding talking to him since you met again. With the excuse of focusing on Yikyung and scavenging through the hospital, you had plenty of reasons to act as if you werenât seeing the person you cared the most for after a whole entire year of thinking he was dead.
But you did feel his gaze on you the whole time. It was heavy, and remorseful. Youâd planned to talk to himâ In fact, thatâs why you decided to come over to the room he was in. You hadnât expected things to turn out this way, however. Seems like you couldnât talk to your friend, yet.
âItâs nice to know you care, though.â he hummed, gaze never leaving your face. âHe thinks about you so much, too.â
You looked back up at him. If this was the so-called monster part of Hyunsu, then what was his deal? A lot of questions about this situation flooded your head. âWhat are you playing at?â
He chuckled softly, before backing up just enough to hold up his hands in an innocent gesture. âNothing as evil as you probably think.â he said, voice steady. âI just wanted us to talk. Just us.â
âHuh.â
âYou see, your Hyunsu has an interest in you.â he said, tilting his head slowly. It felt as if he was analyzing you. It was a bit unsettling, but you didnât bother breaking eye contact this time. âBut I do, too. Iâd say maybe⌠Even more than him?â his grin widened at his own words.
âI find it hard to believe you care about people.â
âAnd yet.â he scoffed, expression dropping to a blank one, seemingly annoyed. He dropped his arms to his sides and sighed. âWe decided to work together. Couldnât have him die on me, it wouldnât be nice for anyone involved.â
You decided this Hyunsu seemed to mean it when he said they made a deal, just about as much as when he said he had an interest in you. So placing your trust in his bloodied hands for the time being, you tried to be less on guard. He wouldnât kill you, or most importantly, Hyunsu. That was enough for now.
âOkay.â you sighed, crossing your arms. âSo you want to talk?â
He smiled a little. âYes.â he stated, before taking a step towards you. Only this time, he didnât bother keeping a safe distance. His face was a touch too close to yours. âIâve wanted to for a while.â
âYouâŚâ you paused for a moment, thinking. âDo you usually go around talking to people while getting so close to them?â
âI donât go around talking to people.â he mocked your tone before scoffing, a grin pulling at his lips. He brought a hand up to your face, holding your cheek firmly. His focus turned to his hand, eyes narrowing in its direction. You felt his fingers loosen a little, as if he was trying to control how tightly he was holding you.
Which he was. Now it felt gentle. Almost unfitting. Not only that but the Hyunsu you knew was never this comfortable with anything close to physical affection. It felt so out of place.
âDoes it bother you?â he whispered, eyes flitting over to meet yours again. He moved in closer, just enough for your noses to touch. He seemed to be having fun switching between looking at your eyes and at your lips. âAm I too close?â
Before you could think of a way to answer, you froze. The unfamiliar color in Hyunsuâs eyes dissipated, the cocky expression you were almost beginning to get used to replaced by a soft, almost startled one. His voice, much quieter now, whispered your name. Your eyes widened and you sighed in something akin to relief.
âHyunsu.â you breathed out. The latter looked at you with a stunned look, struggling to find anything to say for a while. He looked into your eyes like he was making sure you were okayâ Making sure you were really alive. His thumb moved back and forth softly over the skin of your cheek, his gaze scanning you in an almost panicked manner. He sighed shakily, before he brought your face into his shoulder. He seemed to be almost trembling.
âIâm sorry.â he exhaled, wrapping his other arm around your shoulders hesitantly. Still terrible at hugging. Youâd missed those awkward displays of affection so much. âI⌠Iâm sorry, itâs been⌠A very long time.â
âGod, youâre so cruel, Cha Hyunsu.â
He tilted his head down into your neck. Now you felt his tears on your skin. He really hasnât changed, you thought. It was obvious when he came running for help when Yikyung was badly injured, when he did everything to help her and went all the way to look for that kidâ Cha Hyunsu hadnât changed.
âIâmââ
âQuit apologizing.â you huffed, holding him tightly. âI missed you, too.â
Hyunsu sighed quietly, tightening his hold on you a little. He was relieved to finally have you with him again, but he couldnât shake off his worries.
âYou talked to⌠Him? Right?â
âI did.â you said, pulling away enough to look at him. The concern on his features was undeniable. âAnd it went fine. Itâs okay.â
Hyunsuâs frown deepened. âI donât know if itâs alright. Me staying⌠So close to you.â
âDonât even think about disappearing on me again.â you warned, eyes widening. âI donât care about any reason you give meâ Donât leave again.â
The boy sighed, averting his gaze for a moment, before slowly bringing it back to you.
âI wonât.â he assured, âI wonât leave you again.â
He closed his eyes and pulled you into another hug. He had to believe his existence on its own wouldnât cause more problems for you to deal with. He had to trust that even if it did, you meant it when you said you didnât mind. He knew you did. You always meant it.
He opened his eyes and looked at his reflection in the glass door just a bit further away. Seeing you in his arms should have been reassuring. But the blue hue of one of his eyes and the nagging voice in his head seemed to be laughing at his naivety. He pressed his eyes shut again and buried his face in your shoulder.
This is our priority, now. (I know.) No one else comes first. (I know.) Donât let them get hurt.
I wonât.

someone cooked here. LMAO anon you're a genius
rememberance
đŠđđ˘đŤđ˘đ§đ : cha hyun-su x gn!reader
đ đđ§đŤđ: hurt/comfort(?)
đŹđŽđŚđŚđđŤđ˛: you died by his hands, and he never forgave himself for it. that was until he saw you standing alive and well in front of him.
đđŽđđĄđ¨đŤâđŹ đ§đ¨đđ: i didn't know if i wanted to make it an established relationship or not, so that's up to you! also when i finished this i thought it was way longer than it actually was. hopefully you still enjoy it!
đđŤđ§đ˘đ§đ đŹ: mentions of death, blood, basically anything you'd see in sweet home
"it's not your fault."
your voice echoed in his mind continuously. part of him wishes he could forget, the other part of him wishes it'd stay forever.
he remembered the way your arms wrapped around him, even when your skin was pierced by his wing.
"it's not your fault," you whispered, your grasp slightly loosening due to your injuries. you could feel yourself slipping away.
you used your final breaths to reassure him, relief taking over your features when his wing turned back into his arm, and the pure blackness of his eyes returned to the eyes you'd stare into with adoration.
once he fully processed the situation, he held you tightly and cried into you. you held him back for as long as you could, and once he felt your arms let him go, he cried harder.
he remembered how your lifeless body felt. the weight of you was still there, but everything else that made you you was gone.
it had been a year since it happened. he thought it'd get better with time, but it hadn't. he catches himself thinking about you more often than he should, but he can'tâhe won'tâlet himself forget you.
he didn't think that his determination to keep your memory alive would lead to hallucinations of you. was he hallucinating?
eun-yu stood next to him, and upon seeing you, she ran up to you and hugged you. you hugged her back and gave her a soft smile. she pulled away, and your gaze landed on him.
he definitely wasn't hallucinating.
he looked different than when you last saw him. his hair grew out a bit more, and you observed his shirt.
it looked cut up, and you could only assume it was from his wing. the same one that "killed" you. you winced at the memory, convinced you could almost feel the tears in your skin again.
you had changed, too, though. your hair was different, more suitable to the outbreak of monsters, and your choice of clothing was, too. it's not something he expected you to wear, but it looked good on you.
he walked towards you and you stood before him, unmoving, just as shocked as he was.
"hyun-su?" you reached out to touch his face, and once he felt your touch, he gave a shaky sigh and tears began to fall.
you wiped his tears and gently shushed him, pulling him into an embrace. he buried his face into your neck, mumbling apologies.
"i'm sorry," he cried into you, just like he did when your pierced skin leaked blood onto him.
"i know. it wasn't your fault." you held him tight, expressing that your grasp wouldn't falter this time, and you let him stay in your arms as long as he needed to, because this time, you weren't going anywhere.

â nsfw alphabet
cha hyunsoo (sweet home) x fem!reader
summary: a nsfw alphabet with hyunsoo
warnings: language, nsfw,
A = Aftercare (what theyâre like after sex)
hyunsoo usually falls asleep before any aftercare can be done, because he just gets so worn out and tired that he basically just plops on top of you and passes out. if he lasts longer without falling asleep then heâll get you some water or anything you need.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partnerâs)
hyunsooâs favorite part of your body is your hips and thighs, which he grips incredibly hard and sometimes leaves bruises on your skin. favorite part of his body is likely his hands, theyâre quite skilled with all the video games he plays.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
when hyunsoo cums, he lets out the prettiest groan mixed with a whine you will ever hear.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
hyunsoo has always dreamed about getting a blowjob while on the mic playing video games, but he has yet to admit it to you.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what theyâre doing?)
hyunsoo is not experienced at all, but with some help and encouragement, he learns fairly fast.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
missionary or cowgirl, as long as he is able to see your face while he's fucking you, he's good with it.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
hyunsoo is a more serious person in general, so he's more serious when having sex, however, he might chuckle at a joke or when you struggle to get his belt off.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
let's be honest, he probably doesn't groom much down there, it's not like terrible or irritating, but there's definitely a patch of hair.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
sooooo romantic when it comes down to it. he just wants to hold you and make you feel loved even if he gets rough with you, he's still incredibly romantic with it.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
hyunsoo definitely jacks off when you aren't around and he's horny, if you leave a piece of clothing in his apartment he will hold it close to him while he does it to be reminded of you and how he wishes it was you.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
praise, duh, overstimulation, edging, maybe some roleplay
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
in the privacy of his apartment or your place strictly
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
when he sees you wearing his clothes, when youâre cooking, when you pull on his hair while kissing, lots of things
N = No (something they wouldnât do, turn offs)
anything where he is hurting you physically, he can degrade you to some extent but his hands are not hitting you in any shape or form, even on the ass
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
hyunsoo doesn't have a preference, he loves getting head as much as he loves eating you out, he surprisingly knows how to use his tongue almost expertly against you
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
it really depends on his mood, most of the time he is pretty slow and more romantic with it, and then there are other times where he is just blowing your back out into the mattress
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
hyunsoo doesn't like them that much, he likes to take his time with you and have a nice buildup, so unless he's randomly horny at some point, it's not gonna happen
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
heâs open to experiment to some extent, he won't try anything really crazy but the more normal stuff he's okay with. he doesn't take a lot of risks, either
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
in the beginning, like two rounds and he's done. now, he's up to a steady four before passing out beside you
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
he never had toys at first until he met you, then he realized how fun they could be, he definitely prefers to use them on you than having them be used on him
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
hyunsoo is not one to tease that much, unless he feels like it, then his hands are grazing across your body and waist while he mumbles what he wants to do into your ear. he loves when you tease him though
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
hyunsoo is pretty quiet, letting out a few occasional groans or whines, but he gets louder the closer he gets to cumming and will get so whiny and just starts babbling about how much he needs you
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
hyunsoo loves when you're on top as much as he loves being on top, he enjoys seeing you above him working yourself and him to an orgasm to the point he will flip you over just to pound into you
X = X-ray (letâs see whatâs going on under those clothes)
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
it's definitely on the higher side, because of him never having the opportunity to actually have sex instead of just jerking off, so be prepared in the beginning especially for him to be constantly asking for you

hands shaking from holding back from you || Hyun-Su x f!reader
summary: Spring is here, and Hyun-Su offers to take you out on a date, which soon leads to more between the two of you
word count: 3.5k
warnings & tags: some fluff, angst because it's sweet home, kissing, heavy make-out session, gets pretty suggestive but never explicit, monster!hyun-su makes an appearance, the pronoun 'her' is used once in reference to the reader
first one-shot ¡ previous one-shot
A/N: to give a little context, reader and Hyun-Su were in high school together, reader was only there for a year before going to another high school, and therefore has no knowledge of the bullying which hyun-su was a victim of. this one-shot can be read independently (there's nothing intense plot-wise that requires having read the other parts), but I do recommend reading them for context.
There is something strange about spring returning in a forever changed world. It had been so fitting, the apocalypse starting with winter, when everything was dead and desolate. Now, nature is starting to bloom again. The streets should be filled with noise and people, and you should be studying for your exams. Instead, youâre rationing your food, and you havenât been outside in forever â you donât need to, now that you have a knight in his torn hoodie to make sure you have everything you need.
Hyun-Su truly is the silver lining in the situation. The only good thing in the world as it is. Heâs been more confident around you lately, more at ease. Still, it surprises you when he comes by on a sunny afternoon, and offers, with this soft, cautious voice of his:
âDo you want to go out today?â
Youâre putting away some fresh fruits he picked for you, and you turn around in confusion.
âWhat do you mean, out?â
âOutsideâ is dangerous. âOutsideâ is a place you only go when youâre desperate, and you plan as efficiently as possible, to ensure you spend the least amount of time there. âOutsideâ, everything is a threat, and you can only breathe when youâre back at the house.
âOutsideâ regularly takes Hyun-Su from you.
Sure, heâs around a lot more, these days, but he still has to leave every now and then. Youâve come to understand that youâre not the only one who relies on him, but he hasnât provided an explanation, and you havenât pried. It burns a little every time he leaves, and yetâŚ
And yet, the fear that he wouldnât answer if you asked is worse. The fear that he might not come back if you didnât let it rest. The fear that if he had to choose, he wouldnât choose you.
âItâs nice out,â he answers, and you notice him retreating even as heâs still speaking. âBut you donât have to, if you donât want toââ
âNo, Iâd love to,â you cut him off before he can doubt himself further. âI justâ Wouldnât that beâ dangerous?â
âOh.â He smiles, and itâs mesmerizing. Itâs not the bright, joyful smile you were used to seeing, back in high school, but being more subdued doesnât make it any less genuine. âIâll keep you safe. I promise.â
Thereâs no cockiness in his voice, just confidence.
âThen⌠Sure. Iâd love to go out with you.â And youâre not usually the type to say that, because you donât have the guts for it, but you feel comfortable enough with Hyun-Su to lean towards him with a playful smile. âItâs a date then?â
He lets out a brief, surprised laugh, then glances down at his feet while his cheeks and ears turn red.
âSure. Itâs a date.â
Even if you were the instigator, you still feel your face burn at how soft his eyes are when he looks back at you.
He looks at you like youâre one of the seven wonders.
You see him lick his lips as his eyes fall on yours. You could always take the step to fill the distance between the two of you, but Hyun-Su rarely initiates, so you want to give him the chance to do so. When he does, itâs always so soft and so careful, like heâs afraid of breaking you. After a few seconds, he clears his throat, looks away again â and itâs alright. You wonât rush him.
âIâll go get ready,â you hum, stepping out of the room.
You miss the way Hyun-Su follows you with adoring eyes.
When you emerge back from your room, Hyun-Su is waiting for you, and you follow him, heart rate spiking when you go through the door. Being outside again, without the need to go get some specific and vital item, isâ strange. Your eyes dart around you, constantly taking in your surroundings. There are surprisingly few monsters, compared to the chaos that was early winter. In front of you, Hyun-Su walks casually, seemingly without paying much attention to what is happening around him. You trust him, you really do, but thereâs you still find it unnerving about that.
When you jump at some faraway sound, that turns out to be just birds flying away, scared by your approach, he offers you his hand, an amused smile on his lips. He might even suppress a laugh, but you canât tell for sure.
âIs that okay?â he asks you softly as he closes his fingers around yours.
He treats you like youâre made of porcelain.
âItâs much better,â you reply with a smile, even if you feel a little sheepish.
For a second, he stares into your eyes, before he looks away and lets out a deep, long exhale. You donât question him, just give his hand a squeeze, hoping it comes off as a silent reassurance.
He squeezes back, then pulls you with him as you keep going through the city.
âIs thereâ Is there nothing here anymore?â you ask. It feels like you should have seen a monster by now.
âTheyâre here,â Hyun-Su replies casually, like monsters arenât a death promise. âThey just know better than to approach.â
You swallow. You understand what he doesnât say â they know better than to approach him â but itâs not that much of a reassurance, for you. You quicken your pace to stay closer to him. It says a lot about how far heâs come that he doesnât jump when your shoulder brushes against his.
âTheyâre not all dangerous,â he says. You know he intends for it to be reassuring, but all you can do is grimace in response.
âThey might not be,â you answer â you remember a flash of wings as an unseen monster ripped the snake-like creature that was trying to enter your home â, âbut itâs not like I have a way of knowing which ones are safe and which ones arenât.â
Thereâs a long silence as Hyun-Su keeps walking.
âBut isnât that true of humans, too?â he asks you in the end. He sounds soâ sad, and yet you donât know what to tell him to make it better. Heâs not like them, you want to assure him. Youâd never conflate him with the ones that tried to murder you â but itâs not like you can forget about them altogether either. Being wrong about trusting a monster, being wounded once could sign your end.
âIt is,â you reply slowly. Itâs especially true in this new world, where humans have dropped all their inhibitions. âI guess itâs justâ Humans have been less of danger to me, you know?â A brief laugh. âBut itâs not like Iâm running after them either, right? I havenât stepped foot near the shelter.â
Your dad didnât trust the military, and youâre distrustful of authority. There might be strength in numbers, but you wouldnât feel safe being surrounded by men with machine guns while you have nothing.
Hyun-Su hums at your answer. It does seem to have brought him some comfort, and yet you feel the need not to leave it at that.
âYou know I trust you, right?â He freezes and turns to look at you. âBoth sides,â you insist. âI know youâre safe.â
His lips part as if to say something, before he closes them again and his Adamâs apple bobs up and down. Finally, he nods.
âI feel safe with you, too,â he says. The sentence catches you by surprise, almost makes you want to laugh, becauseâ who in their right mind would think youâre a threat? But Hyun-Su says it with such gravitas that you can only assume that thereâs something that you donât know about under there. Truth be told, thereâs a lot you havenât talked about with him. Heâs not talkative, not anymore at least, and itâs hard to know which questions you can ask before reaching a painful subject. And there are countless of these, for everyone, since the Apocalypse hit. âCome on,â he adds after a few seconds. âWeâre almost there.â
He pulls you towards a half-broken down outside staircase. You canât make your way up on your own, so he grabs you by the hips to help you up, and you let out a surprised yelp when strong hands pull you close to him, his chest against your back, to lift you up. Immediately, his body tenses up and he stills, which means youâre all too aware of how close he is now, of his breath on your neck and his body against yours.
âSorry,â he says. âIs that okay?â
Gosh, heâs sweet to ask, but youâre really happy he cannot see your expression right now.
âItâs fine,â you squeak, âjust caught me off guard. Donât worry about it.â
He seems to hesitate for a second, and oh, youâre so aware of his fingers on your hips, before he lifts you up as if you weighed nothing, first on his shoulder, then easily higher, so you can grab the bottom of the staircase.
âAll good?â he asks once youâre up there.
âAll good! Do you needââ
But heâs made his way up before you can finish your sentence, and you blink. Right. Some people are athletic.
âGo ahead,â he says, gesturing towards the stairs. âIâll catch you if anything goes wrong.â
It shouldnât feel reassuring, should make you think that youâre at risk, but you meant it when you said you trusted him. Knowing heâs there to watch over you⌠Itâs like having your own personal guardian angel.
There are no issues, however, and you soon arrive on the rooftop â which takes your breath away. This had to have belonged to someone with money, because there is a whole garden there. Overgrown grass, flowers, and even a few trees. Birds are chirping, and it feels⌠Well, it feels like the kind of places youâd go to laze around on a sunny afternoon with your friends, like an actual park. Being secluded and high up, it is however much safer than any park you could actually go to now. When you turn around, youâre met with an impressive view of the city. It looks peaceful from up here, just a quiet spring day.
Then you notice that Hyun-Su is staring at you, and what you see takes your breath away. Heâs smiling. Actually smiling. Wide and bright.
Youâre quick to look away, embarrassed by the emotions youâre sure are obvious on your face. Tilting your head up, you let yourself receive the sun.
Itâs been a long time since youâve been this happy.
Hyun-Su often feels that, when heâs with you, all he can do is stare. He likes watching you when youâre at home, going about your day in the house, or sitting by a window and reading. It makes him feel soâ welcome, knowing that he can just be there, with you, and that youâll never mind his presence, never ask him to leave.
Never ignore him and pretend he doesnât exist.
It makes him feel like he belongs, being around you, makes him feel at peace.
Or, at least, it did, because the emotions swirling under his skin right now are much more complex than they used to be.
He met you, or met you again, in the winter, when you were bundled up under coats and scarves and layers upon layers of clothes. Heâd be lying if he said he hadnât noticed the change in your wardrobe lately.
It makes sense, of course. Days are getting warmer. Not only is there no need for you to keep wearing pullovers and disappear into huge coats. But the way your clothes are hugging your body these days, how they accentuate your curves, how your t-shirt rides up to reveal the skin of your stomachâŚ
He canât say that it makes it more difficult to be around you, because he doesnât think that anything could do that. You make him feel like he can breathe again, like heâs finally coming up to the surface after spending ages lost in dark waters, not knowing which way was up and which way was down. Itâs just that itâ takes a lot of place in his mind.
He can already barely stop thinking about you as it is, knows that the Kid and Yi-Kyung have noticed already how his mind always seems to wander away from them. This, though, this is a whole other can of worms. Because he doesnât know how to act about it. Doesnât know how youâd feel if you knew. Doesnât know if youâd look at him with pity, if youâd tell him you never want to see him again, if it would disgust you.
Yet, no matter how much he tries to stop himself, he always comes back to staring. You tilt your head up towards the sky, close your eyes.
Youâre beautiful.
If he was another man, heâd walk up to you to wrap his arms around you, heâd whisper something in your ear, heâd kiss you.
Just as the thought crosses his mind, his leg twitches. It takes him a second to understand that itâs not just an involuntary muscle reaction. Inside him, the monster is swelling, clawing its way up towards the surface.
If you donât do something about this, I will, it whispers inside him. And letâs be honest, maybe that would be for the best, because what could you do? At least I wouldnât be afraid to touch her.
Hyun-Su tries his best to force it back down, to ignore the sting of the words, but the monster refuses to let up. Finally, he takes a step in your direction, then another. The closer he is to you, the less the monster puts up a fight â but it still refuses to go down completely.
You turn to look at him when he reaches you, tilting your head in quiet questioning.
Hyun-Su feels himself lifting his hand to touch your cheek, and itâs so spontaneous, so natural that he canât really say whoâs in control there. Your skin is soft under his, and as he leans in to kiss you, he cannot forget how fragile you are compared to him. How one wrong surge from the creature he harbors inside himself could end it all, how careful he needs to be.
And, when his lips brush against yours and you kiss him back without hesitation, heâs reminded of how you either donât know that or donât care.
There must be something in the air, because without thinking, his hand comes to your waist, then the small of your back, pulling you close to him. Again, he canât tell if itâs the monster making its own decision, or if itâs just natural and heâs just doing what he truly wants to do. Both thoughts are worrying.
But youâre not aware of all the questions going on his mind, and all you do is tilt your head up to give him better access to your mouth â and it makes his pulse rush and his mind goes haywire.
Normally, heâd know better. Right now, he feels your hands, trapped against his chest, gripping his hoodie and pulling him down towards you, just a little closer, because there isnât much space left between the two of you anyway.
He tilts you back now, still without thinking â there isnât enough space for that in his mind at this moment, not when itâs so filled with you you you â hands firmly holding you against him. His tongue pushes against your lips, and you part them almost immediately, welcoming him in your mouth. His blood is pumping, his whole body feels scorching hot, and youâre right there, running your fingers along his jaw and over his neck, leaving burning trails everywhere you touch.
His tongue intertwines with yours and he feels, more than he hears, you whimper into him.
Immediately, a sense of urgency forces him to pull back. One second, heâs pressed against yours, the next, heâs taken two steps back, and your eyes open in confusion.
âAre you okay?â he asks, searching for a way heâs hurt you, anything indicating that somethingâs wrong. But all he finds is swollen lips that you press together as you glance away from him.
âUm, yeah, everythingâs fine,â you mumble, and it takes an embarrassingly long time for him to understand what kind of noise that was.
Oh.
Oh.
Heâs immediately desperate to hear it again.
He brings you back against him to kiss you once more, and there it is, coming from the back of your throat.
Heâs not sure what happens, who initiates what, if heâs in control at all, but soon he knows that your back is against the grass, and heâs above you, kissing you just as fiercely. Your hands are wandering now his shoulders, first, then his arms, then tracing the muscles of his chest and down to his abs. He wants to respond in kind, wants so badly to feel you, but the second he moves his hands, fear assaults him again.
âIs thatââ He breaks the kiss to look at you in worry. âIs that okay?â
He illustrates the question with the softest of touch on your skin. You let out a brief laugh â not a mocking one, though.
âYou really donât have to keep asking that,â you say, and your eyes are adoring. Then, when he stays still, you push yourself on your elbows to press a kiss to the corner of his lips. Then his jaw. Then his neck.
Hyun-Su can only stay there, frozen in bliss, as you pepper his skin with kisses. Finally, as youâre reaching his collarbone, you take his hand in yours to bring it back on your body, and then you lie back down, allowing him to take the lead now.
His hand is shaking as he slides it under your t-shirt, all of his senses overwhelmed with need. He wants you so bad, he has a hard time understanding it. Kissing you is familiar. The way your body arches against yours, pushing into his touchâ isnât. His immediate want for more, more of the sounds you make, more of your body, more of you, that is all new, too.
He feels feverish as he mirrors your previous actions, kissing down your neck and lingering in one spot when he discovers it makes you whimper. Now that youâre not muffled with his mouth, your sounds echo louder, and theyâre music to his ears, in a way that fuels the fire youâve lit inside him. His hips press down into you, and a jolt of pleasure jolts through him, which when he realizes that heâsâ
He tears himself away from you for the second time, stumbling back to end up just a couple meters away from you.
âSorry,â he mumbles, âsorry about that.â
You sit up, looking a little confused.
âAre you okay?â you ask softly.
Itâs his line, and it takes him a while to piece together what you could mean by that. Itâs not like thereâs any way for you to hurt him. If anything, you should be disgusted by him. Thereâs no way you didnât feel him, which means you know heâs hard. But youâre just looking at him in concern.
âSorry,â he repeats. âI shouldnâtâ I shouldnât haveââ
âHyun-Su,â you call gently as you scoot over towards him. âItâs all good. I didnâtâ umâ I didnât mind. But weâ we can stop here for now, if youâd rather.â
Inside him, the monster protests vaguely, but this time Hyun-Su has no issue sending it back to the abyss it came from. Heâs overwhelmed, heart beating erratically, and he doesnât know what would happen if things kept going. He wasnât in control, not really, and heâ he canât risk it. Not with you.
âSorry,â he repeats, feeling miserable.
Slowly, you put your arms around him. Thereâs nothing suggestive about it. Youâre just doing your best to bring him comfort.
âItâs okay,â you whisper. Your fingers run gently through his hair in appeasing motions. He rests his head against your shoulder.
Heâs not alone.
Youâre just there, talking to him, touching him, right against him. Youâre not doing anything to move away, not looking at him like heâs some mistake, and it feels like his heart is trying to jump out of his chest.
âThank you,â he mumbles.
Your fingers still for a moment, before you go back to your ministrations.
âFor what?â
And, God, the fact that you donât even know, that you donât even realize everything youâre doing, everything youâve done for him since that first day when you spotted him in the street and ran after himâŚ
He draws in a trembling breath.
âThank you,â he just repeats.
You donât ask any more questions, just keep gently playing with his hair.
The skyâs blue, the birds are singing, the town is quiet. Itâs just you and him, sitting in the grass, on the rooftop.
If someone were to miraculously pass by and see the two of you there, theyâd probably think that you were, indeed, on a date.
okay, I hope you're enjoying this little series! I'm not sure what I'll work on next. i know i'm eventually going to write smut for them, though it's going to be very soft because... well it has to be between them lol. someone has also said they wanted to see them tackle the world together a bit more, so I'm also thinking about writing a one-shot where they meet ha-ni and ho-sang, because i thought that ho-sang's intense dislike for hyun-su could imply they've met before. anyway, yeah, i have a couple different ideas.
i would really appreciate it if you left a comment, whether here, in the tags or in a reblog, and tell me anything you're liking in this series! interactions really motivate me and keep me writing :)

Hi , i have a request, I wanted to know if you could do a cha hyunsu x fem reader , where in season 1 , reader is pregnant but doesnât get a chance to tell Hyun su , and in season 2 , reader and baby boy run into Hyun su and everyone at the hospital, so baby boy runs off after friend (monster) or something and Hyun su /monster form finds out about the tie son with reader đif so thank you so much Iâve been asking so many peopleđđ
hello!! thank you for your request, it was really fun to write but im so sorry it took so long to write!!𫶠hereâs the fic for you ( i also adjusted the timeline so that it makes more sense, so rather than it being less than a year time skip like the show, itâs now a 1 year and 6 month time skip) <3 i feel like this could have a part 2 but im unsure so lmk what you think!!!
cha hyun-su x f!reader for @dadyscumslutprincess20
warnings:none
Masterlist
you stared down at the pregnancy test in your hand, your breath shaking and your hands trembling. you were in complete disbelief. there was no way it was real. right?
with a gulp, you wrapped the pregnancy test in some tissue and shoved it into your pocket. you were trying to think about the timeline and ways to tell hyun-su specifically. after all, he deserved to know the most.
when was the best time to tell him? how would you bring it up? and how would he react? these were all the questions that ran through your mind.
as time went on at green home apartments, you tried to approach the topic when you were with hyun-su but each time for some reason you found yourself unable to do so. whether it be because of certain circumstances or whether it be because your words kept getting caught in your throat.
for some reason you were unable to tell him.
and then when you finally built up the courage to tell him, hyun-su had given himself up to the military.
after making it out safely from green home apartments, you separated from the rest of your friends and tried to look for hyun-su.
but as months passed, you began to lose hope. you also had other things to focus on. as your due date approached you hid out in an abandoned hospital. it was the best place to be as it was safe and convenient.
and soon enough you gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.
before you knew it, it had been over one and a half years since youâd last seen hyun-su. and your baby boy was now just over 10 months old. he was already starting to crawl and life keeping him hidden and safe was harder than ever since heâd always manage to crawl away when you least expected it.
the day started like usual. you woke up early, fed your son and began your daily tasks of making sure the abandoned hospital was as safe as it could be.
you carried your son on your hip as you made your way to the area you usually would sleep in. you were going to put your son down for a short nap, that was until you heard noises that sounded like feet.
you put your son down and drew out your gun. you checked the entire floor you were on just in case but there wasnât anyone or anything that you could see. you let out a breath of relief when you didnât find anything but when you went back to your sleeping area to check on your son, your heart dropped.
he was gone.
you began to panic.
maybe heâd just crawled somewhere?
you searched the entire floor again but he was no where to be found. you hurriedly rushed to the floor below. you cautiously looked around, you knew that sometimes start monsters would wander the halls.
your heart beat pounded in your chest. you could hear a baby cooing. you followed the sound and rushed to the room it sounded like it was coming from.
as soon as you entered the room, you saw some familiar faces.
you immediately recognised eun-yu and hyun-su. but you didnât recognise the third person with them. on the floor nearby, there sat a small monster playing with your son.
ây/s/n!â you breathed a sigh of relief as you ran to pick up and cradle your child.
ây/n?youâre alive?â eun-yu couldnât believe her eyes.
you let out a smile and nodded your head and she rushed to hug you.
âis he yours?â she then asked and you smiled as you handed him to her.
âmeet y/s/n, my sonâ you whispered and she looked towards the guy youâd never met before.
âthis is chan-youngâ eun-yu briefly mentioned and you sent him a smile.
your eyes then wandered to hyun-su. something about him was different, his eyes were a deep dark blue colour and his expression wasnât one that you recognised. his whole demeanour had changed and yes, while you hadnt seen him im over a year, you still knew him.
you furrowed your eyebrows trying to figure out why he was so different and as soon as you saw him smirk, you instantly knew.
this was hyun-suâ monster form that was out.
ây/nâ he eyes looked you up and down as he licked his lips.
âhyun-suâ you swallowed hard as hyun-su then made his way towards you.
âhave you missed me?â he tilted his head to the side and brought his hand up to brush a stray piece of hair out of your face.
âyouâre not hyun-suâ you brushed him off.
âbut i am, i know all his thoughts, feelings and desiresâ he looked at your lips when he said the last part.
âleave her alone!â eun-yu suddenly snapped and you turned to her.
âitâs okayâ you reassured her and gestured for her to go out the room with your son.
she soon left and chan-young followed.
âwhereâs hyun-su?â you turned to hyun-suâ vessel in front of you.
âit just hurts now y/n. i am hyun-su but, if youâre talking about our weak side then you should know heâs currently healing. if i didnât take over he wouldâve died so you should really thank me. you must know i canât have him dying on meâ he let out a scoff towards the end.
âwhen will the other hyun-su be back?â you questioned.
ânot for a while..so letâs catch up. it seems that a lot has happened- you have a child. is it ours?â
âitâs hyun-suâ childââ you corrected him.
hyun-suâ monster form chuckled. he noticed all the little details. how you played with your sleeve when you were nervous and how you shifted your weight uncomfortably as you tried to avoid looking directly at him.
he was going to use it to his advantage.
âso, that baby is part mine tooâ he leaned close to your face and you felt your heart beat quicken âyou know? i feel what hyun-su feels and more. tell me y/n, what do you want?â
you closed your eyes, skin tingling as you felt hyun-suâ breath on your skin because of how close he was.
âi-â you began but were cut off when your son suddenly ran into the room.
in an instant you picked him up and he squirmed in your arms as he then tried to reach over to hyun-su.
you were hesitant but there was a slight glint in hyun-suâ eyes that seemed familiar so you handed the child over to him.
âand who might you be?â hyun-suâ tone changed as he tickled the little boy.
you raised an eyebrow, confused at how quickly hyun-auâ monster form was able to change his demeanour to resemble something similar to the original hyun-su.
maybe they werenât so different after all.

okay so my request is;
monster cha hyun su (in season 2) x reader.
the reader helped hyun su escape when those people tried experimenting on him, hurt him etc and when the reader was in danger his monster side saved us
(iâm so down bad for him đ)
Warning: mention of guns/gunshot wounds, season 2 spoilers
Monster Cha Hyun-soo x reader
In the eerie silence of the laboratory, the stench of chemicals hung heavy in the air as you, determined and courageous, guided Cha Hyun Soo through the maze of confinement. His eyes, grateful and haunted, and confused as too why you're helping him. At first he didn't believe you he was hesitant but when you grabbed his hand and pulled him along with you.
"I won't hurt you" you said these words to him looking him in the eyes. He couldn't help but feel a sort of connection with you his monster side pulling at the edge of his mind
The flickering lights overhead barely illuminated the desperation etched on his face, a silent plea for freedom. As you navigated the dim corridors, distant echoes of approaching footsteps heightened the tension. The oppressive atmosphere bore down on you both, but your shared determination fueled the escape.
Suddenly, the silence shattered, replaced by the sound of alarms as the experimenters discovered your daring breakout. Dr. Lim probably behind everything as he always had a eye on you.
Panic set in as you griping Hyun Soo hand tighter you both sprinted through the complex, evading capture at every turn. His monstrous strength, became a shield against the relentless pursuit. As you reached the exit, a hail of gunfire erupted, catching you off guard.
A searing pain ripped through you, and you stumbled, clutching your wounded side. Hyun Soo's was relieved when they finally made it outside. Smiling he turned towards you but the smile dropped as he saw you standing looking like you saw a ghos, holding your side where the sight of blood started to coat your hand.
His protective instincts kicked in the monster inside him coming to surface at the sight of you hurt.
With a shout, he shielded you from further harm, his strength overwhelming the attackers. As the chaos subsided, he knelt beside you, the monstrous facade fading to reveal the haunted gaze of a man who had experienced too much.
His gentle touch met the wound, a mix of worry and guilt in his eyes. In that moment, the bond formed in the crucible of escape became something deeper. You, the person he least expected a scientist no less helped him escape, now found solace in his protective embrace, a silent acknowledgment of never letting you get hurt clouded his mind making Hyun-soo tighten his grip on you.

and i wonder / when i sing along with you / if everything could ever be this real forever
pairing: cha hyunsu x gn!reader genre: fluff (?) word count: 747
notes: (cw: mentions of blood/nondescript injuries) i have not seen anything past s1 so apologies if this is ooc or for any canon divergence !! not proofread, pls forgive any mistakes !! title from foo fighters - everlong
CHA HYUNSU IS BLOODY. it stains his skin and clothing, seemingly painting the world around him in a sea of red. he doesnât know if itâs human. he doesnât know if itâs his.Â
his hands tremble as he continuously turns them beneath his gaze. fresh cuts and new bruises litter his knuckles. hyunsu canât remember where theyâre from. holes litter his sweater, allowing the cool breeze to meet his bare skin. goosebumps arise against his skin, making him shiver.Â
âhyunsu?â a soft, familiar voice forcibly breaks him out of his daze. he freezes in place. was he hallucinating?Â
hyunsu blinks, disoriented. his head spins. you stand before him, a few meters away. your clothes are unfamiliar and oversized - likely stolen from some department store or borrowed from another survivor. a layer of dirt stains the fabric, though neither of you seem to care.Â
hesitantly, you take a step forward. thereâs no fear in your movements, only caution - as if heâs a stray animal youâre afraid of scaring off if you move too quickly. your voice is just as calm and steady when you say, âyouâre bleeding.âÂ
hyunsu remains still. he watches your every movement as you slowly close the distance. his fingertips grip the fabric of his oversized sweater, anxiously tugging at the stray threads near the ends - a nervous habit he had picked up during high school. hiding his bruised hands was easier than fielding questions about why he was hurt.Â
you only stop when there are mere centimeters between your bodies. hyunsu is almost sure you can hear his heart beating erratically in his chest and each shallow breath filling his lungs. his breath hitches when your fingertips brush against the fresh cut in his bottom lip. though already healing at a rapid pace, the wound still stings slightly at the contact. âdoes it hurt?â you whisper.Â
âno.â hyunsu swallows, shifting nervously beneath his gaze. âit doesnât.âÂ
you donât believe him. hyunsu can immediately tell; from the way that your lips curl into a soft frown and how your gaze lingers on the cuts littering his skin for a little longer than necessary, youâve never been the best liar. especially not to him.Â
ây/n,â hyunsu hesitantly reaches up, wrapping his hand around your wrist. his skin is warm against your own. his thumb brushes against your knuckles, tracing against the days-old bruises that linger there. a fresh feeling of guilt curls into his stomach before he pushes the thought aside.Â
his eyes are that ever-familiar shade of deep brown when hyunsuâs gaze meets your own. they shine like honey in the sunlight. âiâm okay. i promise.âÂ
your eyes flutter shut for a moment as you take a shaky breath. your hand slips from hyunsuâs grasp to reach up. his breath catches in his throat - the breath inexplicably stolen from his lungs. his heart rate speeds up in his chest, much to the enjoyment of the voice in the back of his head.
hyunsu resists the urge to shy away when your hand brushes against his cheekbone. your fingertips trace against bloodstains, both new and old. âi know,â you smile softly. âbut no amount of super-healing will ever stop me from worrying about you.âÂ
if hyunsu didnât know any better, he would have called you a liar. the words hang heavy in the air. it feels like his heart has skipped a beat in his chest. it feels foreign to him - someone caring. it had been months since he had any interaction with a person who didnât just want something from him; it had been years since he was given any semblance of kindness.Â
he remains still, all but frozen in place when you step closer, hesitantly wrapping your arms around him. squeezing his eyes shut, hyunsu hides his face into the crook of your neck. your hands gingerly rub against his back, careful not to disturb any possible injuries any more. shivers run down his spine whenever your fingertips ghost against his bare skin through the holes in his sweater.Â
âiâm here,â you whisper, so soft that hyunsu nearly misses it entirely. his fingers curl into the fabric of your t-shirt, keeping his body pressed closely against your own. âitâs okay.âÂ
tears prick at the corners of his eyes before hyunsu blinks them away. he takes a shaky breath, clinging to you a little tighter as he ignores the mocking voice in the back of his mind that begs him to ask for more.Â

âI guess you donât know why Iâm doing this to you,âÂ
Kim Do-hun sighed out with a condescending tilt of his head. His hand readjusted his grip on the wooden stick he used to beat Hyun-su only minutes ago. âI promise, I have a good reason.âÂ
âYou scum,â Hyun-su cursed under his breath as he glared at him. He was lying on the floor, blood flowing from the cut on his cheek and bruises scattering themselves across his body. His, once white, shirt was now splattered in red and muddied from the dust and dirt collected on the floor.Â
âYou look pretty angry. I guess you werenât beaten enough.â
âDo-hun, stop, please!â You pleaded from your place on the side. Tears you were unable to hide streamed down your cheeks as two of your âfriendsâ held you back from rushing forward and stopping him from continuing with the beating toward the boy who held your heart.Â
You could faintly hear Hyun-su whispering for you to stay out of it, but you focused your attention on the boy standing above him. He lazily tilted his head over to look at you and his lips quirked up into a smirk. âYeah? And whatâll you give me if I do?âÂ
âAnything. What do you want? You already have money and popularity and loyalty from all the fucking asshats that surround you, what more do you want?â You seethed out.Â
Your breath caught in your throat when he approached you. He raised a hand and you flinched when his knuckles skimmed over your cheek. âI want you,â he said simply with a grin.Â
âWhat?â You whispered, praying he wasnât asking what you thought he was asking.
âI want you to be my girlfriend,â he took a step forward and you stumbled back, feeling betrayed but not surprised when your âfriendsâ instantly let go of your arms when they saw what he was doing. âI want to have you by my side every day while I walk down the halls of the school. I want to introduce you to my dad and arrange for us to get married. I want you to be mine.â
Your back was pressed against the window of the classroom as he cornered you, your eyes wide with surprise and fear. You didnât want to marry this asshole, you didnât want to be within 30 feet of him.Â
But you desperately wanted him to stop hurting the boy you loved.Â
âHell no. Sheâs not getting with a guy like you,â Hyun-su protested, trying to get up from his position on the floor but failing. He whimpered your name through a pained gasp and started talking directly to you. âI wonât let you do this. Stay out of this, okay?âÂ
The two of you held eye contact for a bit, arguing nonverbally about what you would do before you sighed sadly and looked away.Â
âNo, Do-hun. I wonât be your girlfriend,â you spoke quietly, not looking him in the eyes. He sighed airily before turning back to where his victim resided on the ground.Â
He clicked his tongue, almost teasingly. Shooting you one last glance, he asked, âAre you sure?â You didnât respond or even look at him. âOkay, your call,â he sighed before turning to face a classmate of yours who was sitting at a desk. âHey, four eyes.â
Park Ju-yeong looked away from Do-hunâs direction, hoping he wasnât talking to him but luck wasnât on his side.Â
âYou,â Do-hun tried again and the boy turned to look at him warily. âYeah⌠Itâs your turn now.â
Ju-yeong watched as he placed the wooden stick on his desk with a soft clacking sound. âBut he looksâŚâ he stuttered out, glancing at Hyun-su and seeing the state he was in.Â
âSo?â Do-hun taunted. âWere you close with him or what?â The boy looked down, silently confirming the statement. The bully scoffed. âAll these guys used to be friends with him too.â
Everyone looked away, either in shame or embarrassment from being called out on it. You quietly seethed as you watched the scene play out in front of you.Â
âDonât do it if you donât want to,â he offered him. âIâm not forcing you. Oh, by the way,â he started as he walked to stand behind his chair, leaning down so he was speaking right next to his ear. âWho were your friends again?â
You scoffed.Â
âNot forcing youâ my ass.Â
Even though you expected it, your heart still started racing when you saw Ju-yeong close his fingers around the stick and stand up, moving to stand in front of Hyun-su.Â
âNo,â you whispered and gradually got louder with your protests. âNo, no. No! Stop!â You rushed forward to stand in the way but two pairs of hands wrapped around your arms to pull you back. You were practically completely immobilized and forced to watch everything in front of you.
Do-hun scoffed out a laugh as he glanced at you before turning back to Ju-yeong. With his hands placed in his pockets, he nodded back to him. âKeep going.â
You could see how Ju-yeong hesitantly looked over at you and your pleading face before facing forward again and raising the stick over his head. You let out a sob when he whispered a small apology and brought the stick down upon your best friend. No matter how many times you pleaded and begged for him to stop, Do-hun would always tell him to keep going. It wasnât until you fell to your knees sobbing that you finally said the words he really wanted to hear, but your best friend dreaded.Â
âIâll do it,â you sobbed out, barely coherent through your staggering breaths.Â
Do-hun raised a hand, signaling Ju-yeong to stop what he was doing. Hyun-su wheezed, trying to say something, to protest what he knew you were planning, but unable to because of the pain coursing through his ribs.Â
âWhat was that, Doll?â Do-hun asked as he took a few steps toward you and crouched down in front of your form. You had curled in on yourself with a hand clutching the fabric of your chest. The boys holding you back from interfering let you go when Do-hun reached forward to grab your chin. The gentleness with which he did so contrasted his actions toward Hyun-su so much it scared you. âWhy donât you repeat that?â
You stared at him as you tried to get your words out without any sobs or cries interrupting you. âI-â you let out a shaky breath. âIâll do it. Iâll be your girlfriend. Just st-stop hurting him. Please.â
His smirk grew as he listened to your begs and how you seemed so helpless in front of him. So desperate for your friend to be released from this agonizing torture.Â
âSo pretty when she cries, isnât she Cha Hyun-su?â He jeered while you closed your eyes and tried not to flinch away from his hand caressing your cheek. He wiped away the tears that continued to fall and cooed at your soft whimpers.Â
âN-no⌠sto-â Hyun-su tried but it abruptly was interrupted by him falling into a coughing fit.Â
âAw, you donât think sheâs pretty when she cries? Thatâs just not nice. Maybe you need another beating to appreciate her.â
Your eyes widened as you heard him say that and he stood up to face Hyun-su again. âNo!â You screamed, scrambling to stand up and grab onto his sleeve hopelessly. âYou said you wouldnât hurt him, please.â
He wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you into his side and you froze. You couldnât move; couldnât breathe; couldnât think. All you could do was stand stiffly in his embrace as he pretended to think.Â
âAlright. Iâll make you a deal,â he started and you held your breath.
Of course, it wouldnât be that easy. Why would it be? He was a bully after all.
âI wonât hurt him anymore, as long as you follow everything I say.â
Your exhale was shaky when you released it, your heart thumping rapidly against your chest and your mind screaming at you that this was a bad idea. Ignoring the way your body - and Hyun-su - protested, you nodded. âOkay. Okay, Iâll do whatever you say. Just donât hurt him.â
He smiled at you, his eyes gleaming with a familiar look that brought you back to all the first interactions you had with him.Â
You were running down the halls of the school, cursing yourself for not waking up to your alarm. You would definitely be marked as tardy, if not absent.Â
Disheveled and panting from exertion, you held your Math and History textbook in your hand with your backpack hanging on one shoulder. You were trying to force the books into your bag but with the way you were walking and not thinking clearly, it was hopeless.Â
Your tie wasnât even correctly done.Â
Turning the corner, you looked up just in time for your face to slam into someoneâs chest. The both of you got knocked down to the ground with your books falling from your hands. Letting out a gasp, you immediately scrambled to bow your head and apologize.Â
âIâm so sorry! I wasnât looking and Iâm late for class and I- Iâm so sorry,â you rambled. Looking up, you saw a boy youâd never seen at the school before. Your eyes lit up in realization before you practically crumpled in on yourself. âOh, and youâre the new kid too, this is such a terrible first impression!â You whined and put your head in your hands.Â
When he let out a small laugh, you looked up. He was sitting more upright now while looking at you. His head tilted and his eyes filled with a look that you couldnât quite place. âItâs alright, Doll.â
You frowned at the nickname but brushed it off. âAre you hurt?â You asked frantically while simultaneously shoving your books into your bag and helping him gather his own things. You stood up, holding his backpack in one hand while yours remained on the ground. With your other hand, you reached down and offered it to him. He looked at your hand for a while before taking it in his.Â
âNo, Iâm not hurt.âÂ
âWell, I am so sorry but I am still late for class, so Iâll see you around, newbie. Let me know if you need help with a tour of the school or anything like that!â You waved him off after handing him his backpack and picking up your own.Â
You were unaware of how he watched you walk away until you were out of sight.Â
A few hours later, it was lunchtime and you were outside with a few of your friends playing soccer. It was your favorite thing about lunchtime except for the times when you would eat with your best friend, Hyun-su. During the times when the two of you werenât eating together, he would often watch you on the sidelines as you played soccer or occasionally be with another friend.
Today seemed to be one of the latter days as you played soccer. You couldnât see him anywhere on the sidelines, but you did see his backpack. It wasnât too uncommon for him not to be there so you just decided to let it be and continue focusing on the game.Â
You had the ball but you had nowhere that could be a good shot and one member of the opposing team was persistent on messing up any dribbling you tried to do. Your only choice was to pass it, and you did. You passed it to Seo-joon. The boy had only started playing with your group about a week ago but he was a pretty good kicker.Â
The only thing he needed to work on was his aim.Â
The ball went flying out of the playing field and crashed into the vending machine where two familiar boys were.Â
âSeo-joon!â You exclaimed just as you heard a voice call out.
âBe careful, watch out!â Hyun-su yelled to Seo-joon as he ran to retrieve the ball.Â
âOh, sorry! Are you okay?â He asked but didnât wait for a response as he passed the ball and the game continued. You rolled your eyes and jogged over to the two boys. You realized the other boy, who had fallen backward from the shock of the ball flying toward him, was the new kid, Kim Do-hun.Â
âOh my god, Iâm so sorry, are you two alright?â You asked, placing your hands on your knees while you panted from the run over. âSeo-joon might have a really powerful kick but he canât aim all too well,â you joked.Â
âYeah, Iâm okay,â Hyun-su confirmed before turning to where Do-hun was sitting on the floor after falling back in shock. âAre you okay?â He reached out his hand, offering him a way of getting up but it ended up not getting taken.Â
Not paying Hyun-su any mind as he stood, Do-hun turned to you. âIâm fine. Thank you.â
You nervously glanced over at Hyun-su before looking back at the boy and shooting him your most charming - yet still slightly awkward - smile. âPerfect. Well, Iâm going to go back and continue playing, but Iâll try to keep you guys from getting any more balls being shot in your direction!â You reassured playfully before turning and placing a hand on Hyun-suâs arm. âIâll see you after school, yeah?â
He shot you a grin and nodded enthusiastically. You returned it before turning around and running back to the game. Hyun-su missed the way Do-hun glared at the place where your hand touched his arm, instead watching as you were passed the ball and started dribbling toward the goal.Â
You could see it now. The look he gave you.
It was obsession.Â
He was obsessed with you; with getting you on his side, and if he had to use force or the use of othersâ pain to get that then he would. No hesitation.Â
âDoll,â you heard and returned from your daze when fingers snapped in your face.Â
âHm?â You looked away from where you had zoned out looking at your best friend and up to see the brown, haunting eyes of Do-hun in front of you. He let out a laugh.
âHm?â He mocked and you bit your tongue to stop from making any remarks. âIâm taking you home,â he told you. There was no room for argument in his voice and you noticed everyone who had been in the room except for Hyun-su, Do-hun, and yourself were all gone. Hyun-su had moved from lying on the floor to leaning against the cubbies on the wall behind him. He wheezed every time he tried to open his mouth and all you could do was watch helplessly as you came to terms with what exactly you were agreeing to.
But still, even with the feeling of Do-hunâs hand around your waist and his fingers on your jaw that guided you to look back into his eyes, you couldnât bring yourself to regret it.Â
âIâm taking you home,â he repeated more sternly. You could tell he was getting annoyed but you couldnât help yourself from asking your next question.Â
âCan I keep him as my friend?â You hated that you had to ask for that simple action. You were practically giving up any control you had over your social life and that was heartbreaking.
But as long as it kept Hyun-su safeâŚ
Do-hun scoffed and his hand tightened uncomfortably around your waist. Your blood ran cold as you felt his fingers digging into your side, knowing how much power he had at the tips of those appendages and how hopeless you were against them.Â
You werenât even talking about it in a physical aspect. No, you were talking about the power in society he held. It wasnât a secret how he was the son of a very successful and important businessman, especially with how much he boasted about it. He could ruin anyoneâs life at the drop of a hat and they wouldnât know what hit them.Â
You were mostly worried about Hyun-su and his family. You were well aware of his dadâs boss being Do-hunâs father and how he used that to threaten him on a daily basis. It scared you how out of your depth you were in this battle you waged against him.Â
And like striking down the leader of your army, he dug the blade through your heart with the next words.Â
âYouâre not allowed to even look at him ever again.â
You let out a scream as you thrashed around. The smell of cigarettes burned your nose as it filled the air around you. Your hands fought to pull against the grip holding you by your hair and forcing you to face your worst nightmare.Â
You cringed at the hot breath that blew against your ear as he spoke. âThis is your fault. I wouldnât have to do this if youâd just followed what you were told and stayed away from him,â Do-hun condescendingly told you. He made it sound like he was sorry and remorseful at having to do this but you knew he was loving every minute.Â
âJust stop! Stop it! Please!â You sobbed, your hands going weak as they limply held the wrist of his hand holding your hair. The pained groans and gasps coming from Hyun-su on the ground in front of you echoed in your head relentlessly.
Itâs your fault.
Itâs your fault.
Itâs your fault.
âPlease let him go. Iâm sorry, Iâm so sorry,â you pleaded helplessly but he just clicked his tongue in disappointment.
âIâm sorry too,â he lied. âBut the only way youâll learn is if you see that there are consequences to your actions,â he explained before forcing you to walk forward and fall to your knees in front of Hyun-su. You let out a small whine as the grip he had on your scalp tightened and he leaned in again. âThese are the consequences. So take a good, long look and remember it every time you think about going back on your word.â
Itâs your fault.
Itâs your fault.
Itâs your fault.
More tears fell as you did as told and took a long look over your wounded friend. There was blood splattered across his white-uniformed shirt as well as the grey undershirt he wore. Blood collected around his mouth from where he had spat it out along with the cut on his bruised lips. On his left cheek was the laceration from last time that had reopened and was sending streaks of blood down his face. His nose had a small gash along the bridge and both eyes, one still bruised from the last time he was beaten up in the classroom and the other luckily unharmed, were opened wide as he stared back at you.Â
Hyun-su reached out a bloodied hand to your cheek to instinctively wipe away the tears that had fallen there but you were harshly pulled away just before his fingers could skim your skin.Â
His eyes shot back up to Do-hun as he looked bored by the interaction. âLet her go,â he demanded in a quiet voice.Â
âI will, if you jump off,â Do-hun bargained and the look Hyun-su sent over to the edge of the roof sent you into a panic.Â
âNo! No Hyun-su, donât you dare!â
âOh, shut up, Doll,â Do-hun rolled his eyes before he forced you to look at him again. âDo you want him to get another beating? Huh?â He questioned, mockingly. âI thought I told you not to talk to him, yeah?â At your silence, he degradingly tapped his knuckles against your temple. âIs there a brain in there that can answer or are you just an empty shell?â
âNo. No, I donât want him to get another beating,â you rushed out, trying not to make any remarks about the belittling way he spoke to you.Â
Hyun-su seemed much braver than you. âDonât speak to her like that.â
Do-hun scoffed and pushed you backward so you crashed into the chest of another boy in the group. His arms wrapped around your chest and stopped you from moving while Do-hun crouched down in front of Hyun-su and lightly flicked his forehead. âIâll talk to her however I want. Donât forget, sheâs my girlfriend now,â he laughed under his breath. âAnd do you know how it feels to figure out my girlfriend has been cheating on me? Texting you, talking about how you left your clothes at her house? It breaks my heart,â he said with a sarcastically sad tone. Â
Hyun-su sent you a glance and you begged him with your eyes not to say anything. Whether he denied or confirmed the situation, it would only make things worse for the both of you. He just looked down and away from you, avoiding Do-hunâs irritatingly patronizing gaze as well.Â
âBut donât worry. Iâll make sure you get your clothes back soon enough, though I canât guarantee what their quality will be like,â he joked and all the other boys on the roof laughed along with him. With that, he stood up and walked back over to you. The boy holding you let you go but his arms were immediately replaced with Do-hunâs as he wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you tightly to his side. Tugging you toward the entrance of the roof, his posse of sheep following close behind, he sent a dismissive wave over his shoulder to Hyun-su. âBetter hope your bestie doesnât misbehave anytime soon, or else this will happen again. Although, maybe youâre into that.â
You didnât dare turn around to shoot him a glance goodbye, but you could feel his eyes on the back of your head until the door closed behind you and you were left alone with Do-hun and his friends once again.Â
7:30. 30 minutes before school started.Â
You walked down the stairs, heading for the back exit of the school where the outdoor staircases were - yours and Hyun-suâs designated spot to meet up in the mornings. It was a very dark day. Deep gray clouds crowded out any blue in the sky and revealed only little bits of the sunâs rays through the diminished light that shone through them.Â
Although it hadnât started raining just yet, you brought a raincoat and change of clothes just in case you got caught in it when it inevitably did.Â
Opening the door to the back of the school, you immediately saw Hyun-su sitting on the steps with a white square gift box in his lap, a light blue ribbon wrapping around it beautifully. His foot was tapping along to a beat from the music playing on his phone, the headphones stuffed into his ears and playing loud enough that you could hear it as you approached. It was a habit you always tried to make him break, concerned for his hearing, but he never did.Â
When he saw you walking toward him, his eyes lit up and a smile grew on his face. He stood up to greet you before you both sat down again and started talking.Â
âThis is for you,â he told you, placing the white box on your lap excitedly.Â
âHyun-su,â you complained lightly. âI didnât get you anything!â
He brushed you off with a smile. âThereâs no need. Just open it.â
You did and when you saw the contents inside, you laughed. âWhat is this?â You asked, picking up the patchwork teddy bear. It wasnât the most well-done stuffed animal but it reminded you of something specific that you couldnât put your finger on.Â
His smile turned a bit bashful and maybe nervous as he scratched the back of his neck. âItâs⌠itâs your baby blanket,â he told you and you gasped. âI had your sister help me with it. I know that it meant a lot to you and how it wasnât in the greatest condition, so I came up with the idea,â he explained in a rush, worried over how quiet you were as you stared at the stuffed bear. âSo⌠Do you like it?âÂ
You couldnât contain the smile anymore as you turned to face him. As calmly as you could, you placed the stuffed animal back into the white box and set it to the side before throwing your arms around him in a tight embrace. âDo I like it? How could I not like it? I love it!â You pulled back to hold him by his shoulders and stared deeply into his eyes. âThis is the sweetest thing anyoneâs ever done for me. Thank you, Hyun-su.â
He smiled at you before bringing you in for another hug. The two of you stayed like that for a minute until you felt a cold wet plop on your head. Pulling away and looking up, you received another raindrop on your forehead.Â
âShit! Itâs raining!â You quickly turned and put the white lid back on the box before reaching to grab your bag. You were quickly stopped when Hyun-su grabbed your arm and pulled you back. Looking back at him, you let out a nervous laugh at the mischievous look in his eyes. âHyun-su⌠no.â
âHyun-su, yes,â he joked before grabbing both your hands and tugging you farther away from your bag. He laughed as you yelped from the light sprinkle turning into a full-on downpour and your clothes immediately getting soaked to the bone. You gaped at him while he spun you around.
âYouâre such an idiot,â you said, trying to keep your tone serious but eventually failing as you burst out laughing. âOh my god, youâre so lucky I brought a change of clothes today!â
âDonât worry, Iâll get those wet too,â he promised with a cheeky smile.
You raised your eyebrows playfully. âWow, Hyun-su, I didnât know you were so dirty-minded. And in public no less!â
âWha-?â It took a second for him to understand what you were saying but when he did he pushed your face away from him with his hand. âOh my god, if thereâs anyone here whoâs dirty-minded, itâs you.â
You laughed and it seemed like you couldnât stop until the bell rang with how much the two of you were joking with each other. In the end, at least your bear was safe and dry.
The same couldnât be said about the two of you.
You held the white box in your hands as you walked down the hall. The lid was slightly brown with water damage and was fraying in some areas but you couldnât help the fuzzy feeling you felt when you looked at it.Â
Do-hun walked beside you. As a little ârewardâ for being on âgood behaviorâ as well as a graduation gift of sorts, he was allowing you to give Hyun-su his stuff back, as long as he stayed with you the entire time.Â
The two of you walked toward the back of the school to Hyun-su and your spot. It had been so long since the two of you met here and you couldnât help the emotion building behind your eyes and stinging your nose. Do-hun droned on and on about something but you werenât listening to a word he said as you focused on not bursting into tears. Instead, you focused on keeping the letter pressed to the bottom of the box. You kept it a secret from Do-hun and you just prayed, for both yours and Hyun-suâs sake, he wouldnât see it.Â
Opening the door, you werenât surprised to see Hyun-su sitting on the steps. The way his form seemed so much sadder and lifeless than he had all those months ago when the two of you danced in the rain had your heart clenching painfully.Â
His head lifted as he heard your footsteps approaching and you nearly sobbed at the bandages covering his face. He scrambled to his feet, eyes mostly set on you but flicking over to Do-hun every once in a while.Â
You couldnât handle speaking, so all you did was hold out the tattered white box to him. You saw his eyes light up in recognition of it but he didnât say anything. His hands reached out and grazed yours as he grabbed it. The way his eyes locked onto you when he did made you know he felt the paper. It wasnât anything too special, just a simple note asking him to keep in touch with your new phone number and the home address you knew Do-hun and you would be moving to once you graduated. It meant a lot for you to have him in your life, though, and you wanted him to know that.Â
âWow, Doll. After all this time, you donât even want to say your final goodbye to your ex-bestie?â Do-hun taunted, wrapping his arms around your waist, pulling you away from the boy in front of you and into his chest instead. âSeems like you donât care about him anymore.â
You cleared your throat and looked down, your arms retracting from where theyâd stretched in front of you to give the box. âLetâs just go,â you told him quietly. Luckily, he obliged and turned to walk away with you glancing one more time at the boy you loved.Â
You stood outside of the church, debating back and forth with yourself on whether you should go inside or not.Â
It hadnât been long since you saw Hyun-su, only having graduated a few months ago, but it had been a long time since you had interacted with him. You were still with Do-hun. His father arranged for the two of you to get married and your parents did nothing to help. They were persuaded with money and the promise of a good life all in exchange for the freedom of yours. The engagement ring weighed heavily with betrayal and manipulation at the bottom of your black dressâs pocket.Â
Today had been the first day in weeks that you hadnât been within five feet of Do-hun, and it was all for the same reason - the same person - you gave yourself to him in the first place.Â
Cha Hyun-su.Â
Even after everything, after every attempt to destroy your feelings Do-hun tried, you still loved the boy with all of your heart.Â
And now he probably needed you more than ever.Â
Your hand rested on the doorknob as you hyped yourself up to open it when you suddenly heard yelling. It was muffled and you couldnât understand it but it slowly got closer and closer until Hyun-su came rushing through the door, a few men on either side of him dragging him out. You could hear the shouts now and they were all coming from him. Each was about how his parents abandoned him, leaving him to live alone in the world.Â
The shouts came to a stop when his eyes locked on you, your black knee-length dress and black flats showing you dressed for the occasion while he stood disheveled in a loose t-shirt and sweatpants. His hair was disheveled and most likely tangled, grown out from the lack of attention heâd been giving himself since the bullying started. Â
You tried to help him behind the backs of everyone else. You mainly left little snacks or water bottles on his desk before class when you knew he hadnât eaten, but occasionally you provided first aid kits for him on the occasion you âmisbehavedâ and he paid the price for it. You never knew if he took them but you continued to do it, every day, without fail.Â
You watched as Hyun-su shook off the arms of the people holding him and they walked back inside. You had to hold yourself back and bite your tongue at the insults they called him on their way. It was only after the door clicked and it was quiet outside the church that you spoke.Â
âHi.â
You said it so softly you werenât sure he heard it, but then he replied. âH-hi. What⌠what are you doing here?â He looked away from you as he asked it, shoving a hand in his pocket while the other came up to scratch the back of his neck. You almost smiled at the nervous habit he seemed to have kept.Â
âIâm here for you,â you explained, taking a hesitant step toward him and inwardly celebrating when he didnât move away. You took more steps forward until you were right in front of him, only a foot of distance between the two of you. You closed the distance as you wrapped your arms around his middle and pulled him into you. It was gentle at first since you were hesitant whether or not he would push you away, but your hold tightened when he returned the embrace. He buried his face into your neck as you rubbed his back comfortingly and you could feel the tears falling onto your skin. He sobbed into your shoulder all while you just held him. It was the first time in months you had held each other like this and it was a relief for you to feel him like this one more time. âIâm so sorry, Hyun-su,â you whispered to him, feeling the tears welling up in your eyes too but desperately trying to blink them back for his sake. He needed you to be the strong one right now, you couldnât cry.Â
âIt wasnât your fault. None of it was your fault,â he emphasized with a hoarse voice, bringing you closer. You let the first tear fall. It was such a relief to hear him say that when all youâd heard from everyone, specifically Do-hun, was how it was your fault. How you were the one who ruined Hyun-suâs life.Â
But you still blamed yourself.
âBut I could have done something! I didnât do anything and you paid the price for it all! I should have done mo-âÂ
Hyun-su pulled away from you and in an instant pressed his lips against yours. The words left your mind as you immediately melted into it. He tasted like the salt from his tears but you didnât care. All that mattered at that moment was that he was there. He was kissing you and he was there. You didnât think you deserved it but he was there.Â
He pulled away slowly, resting his forehead against yours and breathing heavily. âNever blame yourself for what happened,â he demanded. His lips skimmed yours with each word and you felt yourself longing for the feel of them again. âYou will never be at fault for what happened.â
Instead of saying anything back, you just pulled him back in for another quick kiss. The two of you might have been abandoned by your families but at the very least, you had each other.Â
Or, you did until you felt arms wrap around you from behind and yank you away from him. Your eyes grew wide as you recognized the familiar expensive cologne of your betrothed. You stiffened under his arms as they tightened painfully around you and Do-hun smiled at Hyun-su.Â
âLong time no see, Cha Hyun-su. Why are you kissing my fiance?â He asked, his grin still as condescending as it was in high school. Hyun-su looked shocked by the news, looking at you with anger boiling inside him but it fizzled out instantly as he saw you standing petrified in fear. âI donât care. Itâs not like youâll ever see her again,â Do-hun cut him off right as he opened his mouth, walking backward and dragging you along with him. âWell, maybe you will, we might even send you a wedding invite!â He yelled as he forced you into the passenger seat of his sleek black, definitely more expensive than any vehicle Hyun-su had ever sat in, car.Â
Another wave of fresh tears fell down his face while he helplessly watched you stare hopelessly out the window as the car started driving down the road and out of his life.Â
August 13th. That was the day the world officially ended.Â
It started off as a normal day for you. You stayed in bed for the first few hours of the morning, only getting up when your stomach felt like it would eat itself. Then, you sat on the chair on the back porch of your house, watching the butterflies fly around your gorgeous flowers and petting the stray cat that would always find its way into your yard. Youâd come to name it Dong-ee, meaning sunrise. Do-hun always scolded you when he saw you with the animal, talking about what diseases it could have, but youâd stopped responding to his words months ago.Â
He tried threatening you every day but it never worked.Â
After your sister died and he found out about - and stopped - the letters you sent to Hyun-su, you had nothing left to lose.Â
In the massive house you lived in, with servants cleaning everywhere and greeting you each time you passed by and your âhusbandâ never far, youâd never felt more alone.Â
It started with a single nosebleed. One of the servants started bleeding profusely out of their nose and onto the crystal blue couch sheâd been vacuuming. You told her it was fine, rushing her off before your husband found out and immediately spraying some stain remover onto it. You know he would have scolded her at best - which was never a fun experience with the way he would degrade someone until they felt like dirt beneath the heel of his perfectly shined black shoe, or fired her at worst - which was a big way to get someone out of a job for life. He often blacklisted the employees he fired.Â
The nosebleeds seemed to increase, not only in the one girl but in the other servants as well. It wasnât until one of them turned into a tall monster with sharp claws and extended canines, trying to kill Do-hun when they saw him, that you knew the world would never be the same.Â
It took time, but Do-hun and his guards - which in reality were actually just his guards following his every word while Do-hun sat in the background, just like in high school - were able to force the monster out of the house. After that, Do-hun decided what he thought was best and decided to do the worst thing you could have imagined.Â
He forced everyone out. Everyone who worked there and resided in the large house, they were forced out of the house and left to die in the streets roaming with monsters. You screamed and struggled as you watched them all be shoved out the doors which were barricaded soon after with thick wooden planks.
What he did next though, was what made you seriously fear the man called your husband and fear for your life.Â
He brought out a gun you didnât know he even owned and shot silver bullets into the foreheads of all his most trusted guards. The same guards who just sent the servants to their death sentence as they forced them out of the house.Â
The air filled with the foul stench of blood and you nearly threw up. You backed away as he approached, getting closer and closer to you with the gun still in his hand. His finger may not have been on the trigger but it was terrifying nonetheless.Â
Eventually, you were backed against a wall with nowhere to escape. Do-hun cornered you against it, playfully and gently tapping the muzzle of the gun against your forehead.Â
âIâve been waiting to do that for a while,â he confessed, smiling down at you. âNow you can be the perfect housewife you were supposed to be. Itâs all worked out.â
You shuddered, flinching away as he leaned in to kiss your forehead. The one thing you were thankful for was the fact that Do-hun accepted consent when it came to anything sexual. You knew he would never do anything to hurt you like that, but he wasnât above physically hurting you if you didnât do as he said.Â
âNow, why donât you clean up that mess over there,â he pointed to the dead bodies near the front door and you followed his finger slowly. âAnd Iâll watch from the couch. If you do good, Iâll consider making you some dinner.â
The world was ending.Â
And you were stuck with your psychotic murderer of a forced-marriage-provided husband.Â
You were fucked.Â
It had been a few weeks since the apocalypse started. You often heard the sounds of roaming creatures as they passed by and shuddered at the thought. Despite everything, you were at least glad to be able to stay in a relatively safe place when everything went to hell.Â
Do-hun didnât make life easy for you, though. You could feel him hovering over you every second. Now that he didnât have work and there was nobody around to stop him, he didnât hesitate to be by your side the entire time and give you no privacy.Â
During everything, you couldnât stop thinking about Hyun-su. You wondered if he was alright; if he was a monster or not; if he could possibly be one of those special infectees; if you would ever see him again.Â
You found your answer sooner than you expected.Â
You had no idea how much time had passed since everything started. At first, you tried counting the days, but you lost track after 80.Â
Now, after what you assumed must have been more than half a year within this hellhole, you sat on the couch nearest to the window. Though you couldnât see through it anymore with the way Do-hun had boarded it up, using the curtains and whatever furniture he could find, you could imagine the way the birds and butterflies fluttered around your rose bushes and sunflowers as they often did when you would watch them through the glass. On days like those, you would often be having a glass of your favorite tea along with a new book of your favorite genre.
Youâd since had to resort to a sliver of water from your designated drinking water supply and a book youâd already read several times over.Â
Do-hun had gotten especially protective and obsessive over you since the start of this hell. He never let you out of his sight, even more so now than before when he could entrust you into the hands of his guards. He would scream at you for hours at a time when you would ignore him. He would force-feed you your rations on the days you felt you couldnât do anything but sit in despair. It was a strange, aggressive, display of his âaffectionâ for you.Â
You stopped ignoring him as often, part of the reason being he would scream at you for hours at a time when you did, just to get a reaction, but also because you just felt so isolated and alone. He was the only source of any interaction you had, human or otherwise; and while all of that was entirely his fault, you couldnât really hope for a different situation when you knew it would never happen. Sometimes, when things got bad with him, you envied the servants who were forced out.
On other days, when things were even worse, you envied the guards you had to clean up afterwards.Â
You closed your book with a sigh when you read the same sentence over again for the twentieth time. Do-hun looked up from his own book with an annoyed glare before rolling his eyes and focusing on the pages again. Sighing, you stood up and gently placed your book in your spot before walking away.Â
âWhere the hell are you going?â Do-hun demanded and stood up abruptly. His book limply fell to the floor and he stormed closer to you. On instinct, you took a step back before steeling your nerves and looking him dead in the eye.Â
âAway from you.â
He huffed angrily and grabbed ahold of your wrist and started walking back towards the couch. âNo, youâre not. Youâll stay right here where I can see you.â
You roughly yanked your arm away from his grip and pulled away. âNo. I wonât.â
Do-hun slowly turned around to look at you, his eyebrows raised slightly in surprise. This was the first time in a long time youâd truly fought against and denied a direct order from him. âWhat did you say?â He took a step toward you and your breath caught in your throat.Â
âI⌠I-I said,â you stuttered, cursing yourself for the lack of control over your shaking hands.Â
He widened his eyes, imitating your fearful expression. âY-y-y-you s-said?â He mocked over exaggeratedly and you opened your mouth again to reply when a large shadow blocked the limited light coming through the fabric covering the windows. It got closer and closer, larger shadows casting over the floor behind Do-hun as it did. Your arm raised to point at the approaching creature when suddenly a sharp pain exploded across your cheek. Your head snapped to the side painfully and you brought a palm up to cover the reddening area where Do-hunâs hand had slapped you. Although the pain shocked you, you werenât surprised by his actions. Nor were you surprised by the sadistic smile that covered his lips. âGot no words, Doll? You were so confident just a second ago, whereâd that attitude go?âÂ
Despite his taunting words, your attention was solely focused on the silhouette of a large wing rising into the air behind the curtains of the window. Just as you saw it come swinging down, you ducked down and covered your head with your arms.Â
Do-hun didnât see the image of the creature behind him, so the action of you ducking down and the loud sound of shattering glass both confused him and gave him a fright. The fabric of the curtains was able to prevent most of the glass from getting through, but you were unfortunate enough to have a piece nick your right knee right below your dressâ hem. It started bleeding immediately and it streamed down your leg to stain your sock-clad feet. The blood was enough to smear across the floor when your foot moved.Â
Unfortunately for you, Do-hun remained unharmed from his standing position.Â
You crawled away from the wall and hid behind the white-marble kitchen island, unaware of the red trail you left behind from your bleeding limb, as Do-hun turned around slowly, taking the gun he kept in his belt at all times into his hands and pointing it at the figure still hidden by the furniture stacked high. The couch, with two dining room chairs stacked on top, screeched against the hardwood floor as a large wing made of only muscle and bone sent it flying across the room. You covered your mouth to hold in your yelps as the chairs loudly tumbled to the floor. Your eyes clenched tightly together and you tried to stop the sobs from wracking your body. Instead of focusing on the fight, you covered your ears tightly, making sure no sound could get through, and rocked yourself back and forth, trying to calm your erratically racing heart.Â
Outside of your covered ears and hearing range, Do-hun started speaking to the intruder. âOh,â Do-hun laughed his usual taunting and narcissistic laugh, a sound that was unfitting considering the situation. âItâs you. You didnât get enough in high school?â
Hyun-su smirked as the dust cleared and he clearly saw the face of his high school bully. He let his eyes travel around, looking for the one person he was truly there for but not finding her. His face almost fell until he saw a strange trail of fresh blood leading behind the large kitchen island. There wasnât any blood on Do-hun, so he knew it couldnât have been from him.Â
âYou know, I really thought you might have changed after high school. Maybe youâd mature and see the error of your ways,â Hyun-su started, putting his arms into his pockets. He had transformed both arms back into their human forms for the interaction he was going to have with the bully, really wanting to see the fear on his face when he saw how powerful he really had become. âI guess I was wrong. Youâre still scum.â
Do-hun scoffed and released the safety on the gun he still had pointed at the boy. âAnd I thought you would have killed yourself by now. I guess weâre both disappointed,â he smirked, tilting his head tauntingly. âBut I got something you didnât,â he leaned forward as if telling a secret but kept the distance between them. His lips formed a sadistic smile that made Hyun-su sick. âI got the girl.â
The boy who held your heart felt his own heart drop to his stomach, but he refused to let it show on his face. âOh really? Well, I donât see her,â he pointed out, giving another glance around the room and still not seeing you anywhere. The blood stain still held his interest but he would save that until afterwards.Â
âWell, you wonât need to see her. Iâll make sure she sees you though, when I put a bullet through your chest and make her clean up the mess afterward.â
The anger rapidly rose in Hyun-suâs soul like a forest fire. He clenched his fists, hating himself for not being able to come sooner. With adopting and raising Ah-yi along with trying desperately to find where you lived - which was much harder than he expected in a technology-free world - he took much longer than he wanted to.Â
âSurrender.â Hyun-su heard in his head. He looked behind Do-hun and saw the monsterized version of him standing next to him in the large mirror on the wall. The eyes of his double remained the deep black color heâd come to accept as a part of himself. âLet me help you. I only do what you want, remember?â The other version of himself reminded him.Â
âAny last words, Cha Hyun-su?â Do-hun asked him, now looking bored with the conversation and placing his finger on the trigger of the gun.Â
âSurrender. Iâll find her. Weâll find her.â The monster insisted, speaking over and over in his head. Hyun-suâs thoughts were running all over the place, unsure of what he wanted to do.Â
He could turn over his control to the other side of him, but that side was unpredictable. Even though he knew he would never hurt you, no matter what version was in control, he was still worried.Â
On the other hand, if he stayed in control, he would have to fight through the pain and beat Do-hun on his own. It wouldnât be that difficult but he just knew from how his finger fiddled with the trigger, that this apocalyptic version of Do-hun was a trigger-happy person.Â
He wasnât sure he could handle that kind of pain.Â
He let out a deep breath, releasing his hands from his pockets and closing his eyes.Â
âOkay. Go ahead, just keep her safe.â Hyun-su told his other half, slowly feeling himself lose control and fading away.Â
âYou know I will.â
When his eyes reopened, they werenât the magically gorgeous deep chocolate brown that he had grown up with. Instead, they were a beautiful and vibrant sky blue. Do-hunâs eyes widened in surprise, but he didnât show any other signs of a change of emotion.Â
âI think I should be asking you that question,â the now monsterized version of Hyun-su asked Do-hun, referring to his previous question after a moment of silence. He could tell the eerily excited grin that lit up his face unnerved the boy in front of him and it sent a sick sense of satisfaction down his spine.Â
âAnd I think you're forgetting who has the upper hand in this situation,â he reminded him before his finger pulled the trigger.Â
You heard the loud sound of a gunshot go off even through the protection of your hands over your ears. The small whimper of fear you made might not have been heard by any human, but with Hyun-suâs unnaturally advanced sense, he heard it loud and clear.Â
The bullet did indeed pierce through Hyun-suâs chest, but he just sighed in disappointment at the attempt on his life. âIs that really all youâve got?â He asked cockily despite the blood oozing from the hole in his torso. Do-hunâs facade finally cracked and Hyun-su could finally see the fear lingering in them. He let out a small noise of excitement and his grin widened even more. He slowly, teasingly, took a step toward the bully who quickly, fearfully, pulled the trigger again. This time, the bullet missed Hyun-su completely and he tutted. Do-hun went to pull the trigger again, but in a flash, Hyun-su appeared in front of him and twisted the gun out of his grip, putting his arm into a wrist lock and pushing lightly. Do-hun let out a loud noise of pain at the feeling of his wrist nearly breaking under the pressure. With his other hand, Hyun-su wrapped his fingers around his neck and grabbed it tightly while pulling him close. The boy let out a loud yelp at the feeling of his wrist still being held hostage and now the feeling of no oxygen getting into his lungs.Â
âIâm not going to ask if you have any idea what youâve put me through, what youâve put her through, because I know you know very well,â Hyun-su started. His tone was scarily calm as his finger tightened and loosened teasingly around Do-hunâs neck. One moment the boy could breathe in a drink of air, and then next he would be suffocating until the process repeated again. âBut, if you tell me where she is, maybe Iâll consider letting you go,â he bargained.Â
Do-hun nodded emphatically before using his free hand, which had been scratching at the wrist Hyun-su used to choke him, to point behind the kitchen island where you were currently holding your breath to stop yourself from hyperventilating. Hyun-su turned his head to look over at where he was pointing and was pleasantly surprised that he hadnât lied to him about your whereabouts. With a grin, he faced him again and released his neck. âGood boy,â he mocked, praising him like a dog before his grip around his locked wrist tightened and he twisted it sharply. The bone of his forearm popped out of place and Do-hun let out a scream, looking at Hyun-su with something like betrayal in his eyes. âI only said I would consider it, not that it was a promise,â he taunted him. Do-hun breathed heavily until Hyun-su once again wrapped his hand around his neck and blocked off any airflow. This time, his grip was relentless; he refused to let up until the face of his former bully and abuser turned blue and his body went limp. Just for good measure, he snapped the boyâs neck and made sure he was dead for sure.Â
Hyun-suâs monster let out a deep breath, feeling content with the revenge that had been boiling in his bones for years, only now getting let out in the way he best saw fit. The original Hyun-su would never admit it but he had pictured hurting Do-hun the same way his monster just did on occasion, wishing he could do that so he could get revenge for himself and for you.
You.Â
Now, Hyun-suâs monster knew he should probably give control back to the original Hyun-su now that the threat was dealt with and he just needed to find you now, but he was the result of Hyun-suâs desires, and his desires were very selfish when it came to you.
He wanted you all to himself. Ever since the kiss the two of you shared after his parents and sisterâs funeral, he hadnât been able to get over the guilt and wished for you to return to him. When the letters stopped, it was even worse for him. He could still remember the last letter you wrote to him. He often read and reread it over and over again. It got to the point where he had the entire thing memorized.Â
Dear Hyun-su,
Itâs not your fault. It never will be. You didnât do anything wrong. I refuse to let you ever think that even for a second, so if those thoughts ever intrude in your mind, think back on my words and let them remind you.Â
It isnât what I want, but I wonât be able to keep in touch any longer. I havenât been as secretive as Iâve intended, not that being secretive is at all possible around Do-hun. I donât have much time so I wonât be able to make this nearly as long as I want. Iâm not even sure if it will make it to you, but God do I hope it does.
Please, never let the world change you.Â
That was the time he really considered killing himself. The only thing that held him back was the thought of you and how he knew in his soul he would find his way back to you.Â
However, since he wasnât able to see you and you werenât there anymore to stop him, even if you didnât know it, his self-harm got worse. He was able to get clean a few months before the apocalypse, but the scars on his skin felt constantly fresh with the loss of your presence.
Yes, he was selfish. And his monster side was even worse. His monster hadnât personally met you yet, so he decided right then and there that he wouldnât return the control, not just yet. He wanted to meet you himself, to see you in the flesh through his own unnaturally blue eyes.Â
Hyun-su snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the, unfortunately familiar, sound of your muffled crying. He walked over to the kitchen island, his feet not making a sound on the wooden floor - a trick he learned at the start of the apocalypse. When he reached the corner and the top of your head was revealed behind the white marble, he let out a sigh of relief. It felt like the weight of the world tumbled off his shoulders and he was free again. He saw you and the sun seemed to shine after a thunderstorm.Â
He tiptoed around to be in front of you and kneeled so he was at your level. His heart, infected or not, broke at the sight of your knees pulled to your chest and your hands covering your ears. To not hear was also to not see, and to not see was for it to not exist, he supposed. Your eyes were clenched shut and your cheeks were stained with tears that continuously ran down them. Instinctively, he reached a calloused and bruised but gentle hand forward and wiped the tears off your left cheek. What he should have expected, but it still seemed to surprise him, was the way you screamed and launched yourself to the side to avoid his touch. Another instinctive action he did was grab onto your arm and pull you back to him. You reacted negatively to this as well. It seemed you weren't able to recognize the familiar face in front of you in your panic, but he was determined to make you realize it was him.Â
You screamed and cried, swatting and kicking at the unfamiliar yet familiar and comforting touch of, what you presumed to be, a monster holding onto you. It was only when you heard the familiar voice speaking the syllables of your name that you froze. Your hands rested on the figureâs chest as you breathed heavily and slowly raised your gaze to their face.Â
It was him.Â
The boy youâd longed to see for months.Â
âHyun-su?â
He smirked. It was so weird to see it because it looked so confident. Cocky, even. This was not the Hyun-su you knew less than a year ago. This wasnât the Hyun-su Do-hun had broken him down into.
But it reminded you of the Hyun-su you knew before everything happened. The Hyun-su who would mess your hair up and then run away with a mischievous grin as you chased after him. The Hyun-su who dragged you into the rain so you could dance with him despite the water soaking through both of your clothes.Â
It was comforting.Â
What surprised you the most, however, was the blue color that took over the brown eyes you longed to see.Â
âYour eyes are blue,â you softly told him as if he didnât already know. Your hands came up to lightly rest on his cheeks, so lightly that it barely felt like the touch was there at all.
The loose grip he had on your arms tightened slightly to keep you close - just in case you got scared and tried to move away from him again - when your eyes widened in realization. âYou figured it out quicker than I expected you to. Smart cookie. And only because my eyes were blue?â He questioned, teasingly.Â
Your eyes were still wide as you answered, but he was pleasantly surprised to see no fear in them. âHyun-su wouldnât act this cocky.â
He kissed the back of his teeth, shaking his head with a smile. âThatâs where youâre wrong, sweetheart. Iâm still Hyun-su. We are one and the same.â
âAre you one of those âspecial infecteesâ?â You asked, bringing your soft touch away from his cheeks to make air quotes with your fingers. He frowned, not liking how the places your fingers had touched felt cold without you but nodded nonetheless.
Your head tilted to the side and your left hand went back up to his cheek so you could cup it, almost unconsciously, as you stared at him in perplexment. He leaned his face into your touch just like how Hyun-su always did. You didnât do it often in the past, especially after you got with Do-hun, but he would always lean into the warmth of your touch whenever you did.Â
Do-hun!
Your eyes widened again and you turned to the side to try and see where he was. Your head didnât turn far before Hyun-su cupped both of your cheeks and directed your attention to him again. âDonât look over there, okay? Just look at me.â
You nodded, your eyes flickering back and forth between each of his eyes while you regulated your breathing. You knew he was protecting you from what was sure to be a gruesome sight.Â
âA sight that he created.â
The thought fluttered through your mind but it didnât affect you in the way you expected it to. You expected to feel at least a sliver of guilt or maybe even fear of the boy in front of you for what he did, but instead you felt none of that.
You just felt relief. You were finally free of the person who put you through hell for almost a year.Â
The hand not cupping Hyun-suâs cheek found its way to rest on his left shoulder. You didnât keep it resting there for long when you felt a sticky, warm liquid stain into the creases of your hand. You pulled it away and your eyes quickly widened in fear.Â
It was blood.Â
You ripped your hand away from his cheek, an action that caused him to pout, and tore the collar of his shirt down past his shoulder. You gasped heavily when you saw the bullet wound right below his collarbone. Because of the black color of his shirt, you didnât notice it before nor did you see the blood on the palms of his hands, the hands that had been holding your arms gently since you saw him.Â
âYouâve been- youâre- oh my god-â You panicked, pressing your hands against the wound that was still bleeding so you could stop the blood flow. âI need to- I have a first aid kit. We need- you need-â You couldnât get your words out, heavy breaths interrupting each one and not allowing you to think properly.Â
Suddenly, a pair of warm, surprisingly still-soft lips met yours. You were still breathing heavily so you couldnât really do anything except try to hold your breath as he kissed you. It was a feeling you didnât know how much you craved to experience again until the moment it happened. Once he pulled away, you slowly let out the breath you held and just stared into his blue eyes.Â
âCalm down. Iâll be fine, okay? Just show me where the first aid kit is. Iâll even let you patch me up if itâll make you feel better. Is that what you want to do?â He asked, his face still only inches apart from yours. You could feel his breath hit your lips with every word and it just made you crave his taste again.Â
You replied without looking away from his eyes. âItâs in the bathroom.â
He nodded, his lips tilting upward slightly into a small smirk. His eyes slowly flickered back and forth between yours, his head tilted slightly to the side as he spoke. âAnd what do you want to do? You wanna come with me and help clean me up or do you want to stay here until Iâm done?â His voice was slightly teasing with a hint of a mocking undertone. It surprised you but you didnât particularly dislike it.Â
You gripped onto his collar tightly, scared heâd leave you. âPlease donât leave me alone,â you whimpered softly. The smirk on his lips grew a bit bigger at your words before he suddenly leaned forward and wrapped one arm around your back, the other going under the backs of your knees. He lifted you so effortlessly you were astounded at how little effort he seemed to use in order to complete the action.Â
He made his way down to the bathroom, you in his arms as you gave him directions, and set you down on the large white marble countertop that the sink resided on. You watched as he kneeled down to open the cabinets below and rummaged through them messily until he found the first aid kit.Â
He was only doing it for your sake, knowing that - especially in his monster state - he healed quickly and didnât feel much pain.Â
He took off his ripped muddied and blood-stained shirt while you grabbed the materials you needed while nursing his wounds. It wasnât until you looked back up at him that you noticed his apparent lack of a shirt and your eyes caught onto his defined muscles. It was obvious the apocalypse had at the very least done wonders for his physique, thatâs for sure.Â
The man was even more attractive than youâd thought he was in high school.Â
And youâd thought he was so hot in high school.Â
It took you a moment to snap out of your stupor, but you did and purposefully ignored the arrogant smirk on his face while you honed your attention in on his wounds. He noticed the way your face warmed at his silent teasing but he decided not to comment on it and risk breaking the intimacy of the moment, especially when you started to clean his wounds and he felt your hands touch his skin.Â
He slowly skimmed his hands up from where they had been resting on your knees until they reached your hips. He purposely avoided causing any fabric from your dress to rise since he didnât want to make you uncomfortable. You appreciated it greatly, but couldnât help the want that grew inside you for him to take it further.Â
The cleaning of his wounds, specifically the bullet wound - which took extra long because you had to make sure the bullet wasnât still inside, which it thankfully wasnât - took a while but you got them done. It seemed they looked much worse with all the dried blood and mud stuck to them than they actually were. The bullet wound had practically fully closed, and the same could be said about the majority of his other wounds. You were grateful he was an infectee, otherwise he wouldnât have survived.Â
He also wouldn't have ever been able to get to you in the first place, which was another bonus.Â
Once the areas surrounding the wounds were cleaned, and he adamantly insisted he didnât need the bandages you were so willing to cover him with, you grabbed a towel from the towel rack on the wall and wet it in the sink. Hyun-su looked at you curiously when you did and you just looked at him shyly.Â
âItâs a filtration system using rainwater. I set it up before the whole apocalypse started, not that Do-hun appreciated me doing that,â you explained with a hint of pain in your voice, recalling the painful memories of when you put your self-taught engineering skills to use.Â
âSo you got to create it after all. I remember the first time you mentioned wanting to do something like that. I always knew you could,â he praised with a devilishly handsome smirk on his lips. The sight of it erased all the painful memories you felt - something Hyun-su had always been able to do. A hot feeling settled in the bottom of your stomach and it caused a damp spot to form on your panties. Hyun-su could smell the intoxicating scent of your arousal, and his hands tightened around your hips to hold himself back.Â
âThank you,â you whispered with a slight blush before focusing on wringing the cloth out and bringing it to the dried blood and dirt on his chest, gently wiping it away. Each time your fingers lightly grazed against him, he could feel his resolve slipping just a little more.Â
It was only after the first swipe of the cloth that you realized just wiping it might not be enough for him to get clean.Â
âI think⌠it might be better if you just take a shower,â you told him hesitantly. You wanted him to get clean and feel more comfortable but that would also mean you would have to leave the bathroom.Â
He stared at you for a minute, trying to figure out what was troubling you but not quite being able to. Instead, he answered with a simple, âOkay.â
You gave him a small sad, scared smile - one that broke his heart a million times over - before you gently pushed him back so you could hop down and off of the counter. He watched you carefully as you crouched and grabbed a fresh towel for him from under the sink. When you handed it to him and fearfully turned to the door, he finally realized what was wrong.Â
âSweetheart, I donât think you leaving is a good idea,â he warned, wanting to relieve you of asking to stay and instead just giving you the option openly.Â
You sighed in relief and took your hand off the handle of the door. Turning back around to face him again, you looked into his eyes so seriously but with a hint of concealed desperation. âAre you sure? I can leave so you can have some privacy.â
He would be lying if he said the way you cared about his feelings and how considerate you were in general didnât turn him on, because God knows it did.Â
âIâm sure. You can wait for me on the counter. I wonât be long,â he promised and you nodded, hopping back up on the counter.Â
While the regular Hyun-su wouldâve avoided thinking about it at all costs, his monster had no qualms about imagining impaling you on his cock on that countertop; about making it hard to tell whether the steam fogging the mirror was from the shower or from your hot bodies colliding together with each thrust of Hyun-suâs hips; about making you cry out his name in pleasure while your dead husbandâs corpse listened in from the next room over. He almost regretted killing Do-hun off so soon, especially without proving to him that he never had the girl in the first place.Â
He started unbuckling his pants and your eyes widened before you hastily covered them with your cheeks heating up to dangerous levels. He chuckled quietly which caused you to blush harder. âYou couldâve warned me,â you chastised.Â
âBut whereâs the fun in that?â He teased, dropping his pants and boxers to the ground with a slight clatter and stepping out of them both. You whined and his already half-hard dick twitched. The sound of your whining and the sight of you in front of his naked body caused him to nearly blow his load right then and there.Â
He smirked at you - not that you could see it - before stepping into the frosted glass shower and turning it on. He was honestly a bit surprised that you had soap in the shower but decided not to question it too much.Â
Just as heâd finished washing his hair and torso, he heard the soft and imperceptible to anyone without his supernatural hearing sound of you gasping and your breathing picking up. It was when he looked over that he saw you completely turned away from the shower door and clutching your chest.Â
It didnât take a genius to figure out youâd snuck a peek at him through the window and evidently liked what you saw.Â
He cursed under his breath, the sound concealed to you by the sound of the showerâs running water. He could smell your arousal despite being doused in water and it was making him go crazy.Â
He leaned his back against the shower wall with a heavy breath and brought a hand down to his hardened cock, looking at your silhouette through the frosted glass and listening to your flustered breaths. He groaned under his breath as his hand stroked up and down on his cock. He imagined it was you in there with him, your hand instead of his. He could imagine the way your hand would barely be able to wrap around it if it even could at all. He held his breath to keep any sound from coming out as he squeezed and stroked his cock, the water covering his labored breaths.Â
It wasnât enough to cover the banging sound that happened when he slammed his head back against the wall as his fingers ran over the slit of his penis.
Your head perked up but you still refused to turn around.Â
âHyun-su? Are you okay?â You asked cautiously in a soft tone and god, he was a goner.
His dick twitched in his hand as he came all over the shower wall, coating it white with his seed. He breathed heavily as he came and almost completely forgot about the question you asked until you spoke up, this time more worriedly.Â
âHyun-su?â He could hear your breathing and how it picked up speed in fear for his safety. It made his heart swell just as much as it made his dick harden again.Â
âIâm just fine. Iâm not hurt,â he replied calmly as he grabbed the soap and cleaned off the lower half of his body like he hadnât just masturbated to his best friend with only a transparent shower wall to separate them.Â
You let out a sigh of relief and nodded to yourself. âOkay. Good. I got worried when you didnât reply.â
The shower suddenly turned off and you felt a presence appear behind you only a second later. You turned your head quickly to look in the mirror but you closed your eyes just as fast when you saw your, very naked, best friend standing behind you. Your cheeks lit on fire and you let out a surprised little sound that went straight to Hyun-suâs cock.Â
âI left the towel on the rack,â you explained, thinking heâd maybe just missed it. Instead, he leaned forward so his breath hit your neck and brushed your hair behind your shoulder.
âI know,â he said simply as he leaned forward and started pressing kisses along the expanse of your neck. Unconsciously, you leaned your neck to the side to give him more access and he smirked against your skin. Water droplets fell from his hair and skin onto yours and they slid down slowly. Hyun-su watched with hungry eyes as one slid down right between your cleavage and down to your stomach. He brought a hand up to your shoulder where he carefully traced the same path the droplet made, stopping once he reached the top hem of your dress. âMay I?â He asked patiently. It made you feel sure he wouldnât be upset if you wanted to stop right there and then. It honestly made you feel like you were floating.Â
Instead of answering, you turned your head to face him and brought your right hand up to pull his face into yours, your mouths crashing in an intimate and passionate kiss. Meanwhile, with your other hand, you brought it up to grab his hand which was still resting right above your cleavage, not going any further until you gave your consent. You gently wrapped your fingers around his wrist and moved his hand around your body so it was at your back. Separating from his lips for just a moment, you whispered against his lips, âHelp me unzip?â
You could feel the smirk against your lips as he reconnected them and sensually, with a painfully slow pace, unzipped your dress, the straps falling off your shoulders and pooling around your hips. Hyun-su pulled away for a moment to marvel at your bare breasts. âYouâre so fucking perfect,â he whispered and leaned in so he was mouthing at your chest. At this point, you had turned so you were facing him directly while still sitting on the sink countertop. Your hands gripped his hair as he gently tugged on your nipples with his teeth, his hand playing with the breast he wasnât paying attention to. Your head leaned back as you let out soft moans of his name that made him work harder and rougher to make them louder. He couldn't help looking up at your face and marveling at how drop-dead gorgeous you looked with your eyes closed and mouth hung open in pleasure.Â
You tugged at his hair harder as you felt the hand not playing with your breast brush against your inner thigh, slowly going further up with each second until it was completely covered under the fabric of your dress. You let out an embarrassingly loud whine as you felt his fingers brush over your clit and through your folds over your panties, feeling the wetness inside. You bit your lip to silence your sounds when Hyun-su kissed his way up to your neck and bit down harshly, leaving a mark and causing you to let out a moan of mixed pain and pleasure. He left a wet kiss over the bite mark before leaning up so he was whispering in your ear.Â
âIâll only say it once. If you try to cover up the sounds you make again, I assure you Iâll force them out of you.â
A wave of arousal ran through you and it was obvious Hyun-su noticed by the way he let out a soft laugh in your ear before leaning back down to your neck and giving you as many love bites as he could. Meanwhile, he snapped the fabric covering your heat in half, allowing his fingers to continue running through your folds and to rub at your clit. Though you were curious to see what he would do if you continued to hold back your moans, you didnât want to risk it and so you let them fall freely, your head falling back against the cool glass of the mirror.Â
After a while, he decided it was time to stop teasing you and slowly inserted a finger into your cunt. Both of you groaned in unison as he did. âYouâre so fucking tight,â he moaned out while you let out soft whines as he caressed your clit with his thumb, trying to make you ease up enough for him to add another finger. He slowly thrusted his finger in and out, hitting multiple spots inside you with each thrust that had you seeing stars.Â
âHyun-su,â you whimpered out, gripping his hair harder as you forced his head up so he was looking at you.Â
âWhat is it, sweetheart?â He asked with a slightly teasing lilt.Â
You brought his face closer to yours until your lips were touching as you spoke. âMore.â
He smirked at you slowly gaining more confidence and taking what you wanted as you joined your lips together in another kiss. He obliged, slowly working another finger in until his middle and ring finger were both snuggly set inside your pussy, thrusting in and curling on their way out without fail. The moans you let out sounded heavenly to Hyun-su and his monsterâs ears and he wished he could hear them every day.Â
Scratch that, he would make sure he heard them every day from here on out.Â
You came on his fingers with your face hidden in the crook of his neck, the sound of your moans traveling and not only sounding directly next to his ear but vibrating through his whole body.Â
He slowly took his fingers out of you and shushed you as you let out a small whimper from the loss. Bringing his hand up to his lips, he stuck the two fingers in his mouth and moaned at the taste, his eyes closing as a result.Â
âCome out so you can fuck her, Iâve had my fun,â Hyun-suâs monster told him, his control over the boyâs body fading away as the original Hyun-su regained consciousness. The first thing he noticed when he came to was the sweetest taste heâd ever tried in his mouth. He opened his eyes and saw something heâd been imagining for years, but something he never thought would actually happen.Â
He saw you, halfway naked with your chest bare and rising as you took in deep breaths. He nearly choked in surprise but was able to calm himself down as you opened your eyes to look at him. Your own eyes widened at the sight of his once blazing blue eyes turned back to the magnificent brown you adored.Â
âHyun-su?â You whispered, bringing a hand down from where they still were gripping his hair and caressing his cheek.Â
âYeah,â he replied softly, âItâs me.â
You smiled at him and he felt his cock - which he just realized was as hard as a rock and standing tall in all his named glory - twitch.Â
âFuck,â he cursed, âIâm sorr-â he tried to apologize and move away when you used the hand still gripping his hair to pull him back into you and connect your lips. It seemed you pulled too hard because he crashed into you, his cock slapping against your still-sensitive core and his bare chest colliding with yours.Â
You moaned into his mouth while he gasped in shock from the feeling. His hands instinctively fell to your waist where he gripped you roughly, much rougher than he was trying to but you didnât mind the bruises his rough treatment would most likely leave. His hands slowly traveled down to your hips, pushing the fabric of your dress down even further. He gently pulled the dress up and over your head, making you just as bare as him. Then, he roughly grabbed your ass and hoisted you up so you were supported in his arms with your legs crossed around his hips. You gasped loudly which gave him the perfect opening to take control of the kiss, entering his tongue into your mouth and dominating it instantly. While he did that, he took careful steps out of the bathroom and down the hallway towards the only bedroom in the large house. Once he got in there, he gently set you down on the bed and crawled on top of you, never breaking the kiss. He broke the kiss only to lean his forehead against yours and give the both of you a second to breathe.Â
âI love you,â you spoke through heavy gasping breaths. Hyun-su, whose eyes had been closed, opened them instantly to look at you in shock. You looked determined but a little insecure as you said it again. âI love you, Cha Hyun-su. I have since the first time you brought me out to dance in the rain and then when you cared for me all of the next week when I got sick. I canât stop and I havenât stopped despite not seeing you for all this time. I donât think I could ever stop loving you.â
He stared at you in complete and utter shock. âReally?â He asked, disbelief coloring his tone. You nodded timidly before he cut off any other insecurities with a passionate kiss. âI love you, sweetheart. I have since the moment I met you. I knew you were the one for me and there would never be another who could compare. I want to be by your side until the end of time,â he confessed and you smiled a blinding grin. He smiled back as he interlocked both your hands together, subtly pinning you against the bed as his look turned from loving and adoring to loving and adoring and lustful once more. âCan I prove it?â
You smiled at him even brighter. âI would love it if you did.â
