Chüebodengletscher ❄️🏔 . Frozen lake on top of the Gerenpass 2700m high up in the swiss alps. The „pond“ only appeared a few years back with the climate change caused retreat of the glacier located directly above it. It’s a fast changing landscape with the ice expected to be gone as soon as 2030. 🥺 You definitely feel small high up in those mountains. Trapped Iceberg ❄️ . A piece of ice that detached from the „Chüebodengletscher“ and now floats in the lake below. With the lake now frozen, this Iceberg stands still untill further notice. Next summer it will float again until it eventually melts away... Repatching in progress. 🩹❄️ . Iceberg trapped in the frozen lake on top of the Gerenpass, high up in the Swiss alps. I was hopeing to find the lake in it‘s turquoise and Icefree state, but instead found a winterwonderland where icebergs and thin surface ice melt together. This Iceberg will have to wait for spring to be free again and move around until it melts away in the hot summerheat. The Chüebodengletscher is loosing large quantities of ice each year. The short winter periods will not save him and only act as a patch.
