The real problem for Johnny right now, though, wasn’t “nothing,” it was that she had been staring. Not shooting daggers, not checking him out, not examining him the way one might appraise a new car—just looking. Taking him in.

Johnny was used to people staring at him, of course. Taking him in. Happened on the regular when his heart was still beating, and could he blame any of them? He was Johnny S/ilverhand, the legendary rockerboy at the epicenter of every Night City citizen’s cesspool of desire. Back then, every set of eyes took him in as he walked by.

But this look Velvet gave him was not lust. Johnny and Velvet were something to each other now—something along the fine line of “partners”—and his ability to categorize her myriad of emotions had become uncanny. He’d spent so long in her headspace that he’d taken his time getting to know the ins and outs of his new home, and lately she’d been seeing him in a different light—a light he couldn’t put his finger on, and this was odd. He’d been able to discern everything about her, from her mommy issues to the exact way she felt about bean and cheese burritos.

Velvet seemed to be redefining his place in her head, uprooting him and planting him somewhere else, and for the first time he was clueless as to where.

Then there was the other thing—the thing that really bugged him. That feeling Velvet had? He felt it too. And he didn’t know whether it was emanating off of her like some fucking radioactive biohazard or if it was an entirely different thing growing inside him on its own. Being handcuffed to her made it tricky to tell, but it was getting harder to deny the latter.

And to him all of this was a nice steaming pile of shit left right on his doorstep. He should have called it like he saw—would have—if not for the dread of doing so sticking to the pit of his stomach. So he dealt with it the only other way he knew how.

Johnny crossed his arms and looked straight at Velvet from beneath his glasses, setting his shoulders straight. He lowered his gaze to himself. “My cock is down here, Samurai.”

And suddenly Velvet burst out laughing, a gravelly shriek of sheer joy and delight he never could have expected to bubble out of her. He thought she’d finally roll her eyes, tell him to fuck off—hoped for it, even, as her irritation would have been easier to endure. But, fuck, if he wasn’t stunned into silence. Had he ever heard her so happy before? An old memory maybe?

Damned if he were to say it out loud, but he rather liked her laugh, and he didn’t mind her staring at him so much now if this was what he got out of her.

He watched her in turn. Just looking at her, taking her in. She didn’t notice. Still too busy laughing.

Before he knew it, he was laughing too.

honestly she may not look it but velvet is a lover. once she grows an attachment it’s hard to let go. she’s the type to make excuses for bad behavior when it comes to someone she loves,, except for johnny ofc they have that carnal hatred/enemies-to-friends-to-lovers thing

eh they’re fine. she doesn’t really want to have kids, they don’t mesh with her lifestyle. she’s not going to be a dick to them though

it’s chin-length and kinda fluffy (w bangs !!). it’s sort of a peachy pinky orangey color—definitely not natural. her natural hair color is a dark dark brown.

no. velvet knows next to nothing about her father other than the fact that (according to her mother 🥴) he was a good for nothing merc with a bad inclination towards nicotine. growing up, her mother made it very clear she doesn’t like cigarettes.

brute force/guns blazing lmao girlie has NO sense of subtlety

7. tattoos? any significant ones?

yes!! a V between the second and third knuckles on her ring finger and a heart (for her cousin harley) on the side of her middle finger. she has other miscellaneous tattoos but all of them are small. i’m contemplating other finger tattoos tbh they’re so cool. also contemplating something like this one (but if it were on the back of the palm) but i’m not so sure. ALSO the johnny + v one ofc <33

5. favorite food.
