THE THUNDERBOLTS

In reaction to the appearance of marvels across the globe, President Osborn has initiated a special project to collect some of these individuals and put them to work. They serve as experiment subjects, as bodyguards to POTUS, and as a secret strike team operating at Osborn's behest. Many members of the team are criminals waiting for promised pardons in exchange for their service, though others may offer themselves willingly out of a sense of patriotism and duty. Whatever the case, the Thunderbolts make their headquarters beneath the prison on the Raft.

THE HAND Formerly a high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Victoria Hand was recruited to organize the Thunderbolts project using her extensive experience and skills. She has a reputation for pragmatism and abiding by the letter of the law. It's said this is why she's sided with the President over her former organization, but it may be that she acts as a double-agent. Hand walks a delicate line between authority and trust, and has been tasked to keep together a dysfunctional group of ex-cons and murderers.

THE GOBLIN The son of a wealthy industrialist, and now President of the United States, Harry has always lived simultaneously in the light of fame and in the shadow of his father. Out of loyalty to his patriarch, Harry took part in an experimental treatment meant to give him superhuman strength, speed, and durability. While the serum was successful in that sense, it also fractured his psyche. Harry struggles with a "goblin" persona, that preys on his baser instincts to greed and vengeance. Nevertheless he tries to live up to his sense of duty by acting as de facto leader of field operations.

THE WIDOW A star graduate from the Russian espionage program, the Red Room, Yelena Belova has been a spy almost as long as she's been alive. She took the title of Black Widow after its former holder proved to be disloyal, and earned a reputation for herself as one of the most crafty, elegant, and deadly agents in the world. When captured by U.S. intelligence, she was accepted a position in the Thunderbolts project in exchange for a future pardon. One could just as easily argue that the deadly widow has infiltrated the project rather than become its unwilling servant--only time will tell.

THE WARMONGER From another dimension known as Olympia, Ares the God of War was ejected into this realm due to his incessant attempts at conquest. Ares now walks the mortal plains where he was once worshipped as a god, yearning to find purpose--which President Osborn was happy to provide. Within the Thunderbolts, Ares was promised to wage war against the enemies of the United States, and has taken up his spear in their name.

THE NINJA Trained by an ancient cult of ninjas, Elektra Natchios is a Greek socialite turned bounty-hunter and murder-for-hire. As an opportunist captured by U.S. intelligence, she knew a good deal when she saw it, taking pay from the Thunderbolts and the cleared record they offered to continue what she does best. She's an expert in infiltration, martial arts, and has an unmatched killer instinct.

THE SONGBIRD As a girl, Melissa Gold was forced to learn to survive after her moment was imprisoned, leaving her with her alcoholic father. She took to the streets and developed the cold persona she'd need to live, and took opportunities where they came. This included taking part in an bionic experiment that altered her vocal chords and physiology, allowing her to make powerful sonic blasts, force fields, and even solid constructs. It didn't take long for the Thunderbolts project to find her, and her rap sheet. The project has used her troubled past, and a promised pardon for her mother, to bring the Songbird into the fold.

THE SOLDIER Officially listed as Killed In Action, Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes was taken prisoner by HYDRA and subsequently brainwashed and experimented on, made into a Manchurian Candidate for the evil organization. After having lost his arm in the incident leading to his capture, the bionic replacement had hence become his most defining feature--otherwise he was a ghost. The Winter Soldier assassinated many influential people throughout the years, without leaving a trace beyond the whisper of a rumor. He somehow found his way into the Thunderbolts project, where he's been welcomed with open arms by the commander-in-chief, and given a chance to serve his country as he always wanted.

THE MOONSTONE Dr. Karla Sofen was a renowned psychiatrist, catering to the rich, famous, and influential. Behind-the-scenes she enjoyed manipulating her patients for her own means, bettering her position through the influence of the clients she controlled. It was through one of these clients that she gained access to the "moonstone", an artifact that when merged into her body endowed her with magical energy, giving her superhuman physiology, flight, and the ability to cast energetic projectiles. She serves as the Thunderbolts official team psychiatrist, and unofficial heavy-hitter.
