So I’ve been wondering… What makes Hua cheng’s obsessive-stalkerish love more appealing when compared to your average stalker scenario?
Is it because Xie Lian isn’t bothered by the 800 year stalking?
Hello, @under-my-pillow,
what makes it so appealing…a good question…
1.I guess this reason you mentioned is one cause for that reaction:
Xie Lian does not bother…
in fact Xie Lian´s reaction is one reason why I personally don´t really like that relationship. I know that it is implied that he does not dare to think of them as a romantic couple…but honestly…sometimes I´d really wished there was more thought process on Xie Lian´s part. He is just fine with everything Hua Cheng is giving him without even wasting more thoughts regarding it. And all this just so that they don´t come together immediately…
2.Since Xie Lian´s backstory is handled in that way that we should feel sorry for him..(It is tragic, but it also is partly his own fault)  many people might feel that Hua Cheng deserved this relationship, since he has always stayed by his side
I mean he followed Xie Lian who was left behind by so many people…that he was the one who pushed these people away for the most part..oh well…might be not so important…However Hua Cheng…or better Hong…followed Xie Lian…watched him…for 800 years..tried to help him .And he did not even know, if he would ever reciprocate his feelings…I mean imagine that. What would have happened if Xie Lian did not like Hua Cheng that way?
I mean building so many statues of him…for years and years…I could totally understand Mu Qing and Feng Xin when they freaked out…
Personally it is a chilling experience…Just think about it…having a person around you that watched you basically for years…following you everywhere…
3. Hua Cheng´s deeds are most likely interpreted as “care”
The author toned down any kind of behaviour that could be interpreted as inappropriate…except for following around and watching him basically…Hua Cheng or better Hong tried to help him as good as he could…Later we see him nicely withdrawing his attempts to approach Xie Lian, if he feels that Xie Lian is uncomfortable…
So the relationship may appear “healthy” in the eyes of many people…but actually that is not the case...it cannot be the case since Hua Cheng´s world revolves entirely around Xie Lian and he is the only person that matters to him…and instead of moving past that very strong focus on just one person…He keeps that trait until the end of the series…
Honestly, don´t you consider him rather as a sad human being…completely dependend on the existence of “Xie Lian”? Actually I had hoped to see a change, when Hua Cheng seemed to have minded that Guzu may could have developed some bad habits due to being in the company of a ghost that consumes human beings like chips…but unfortunately not…
4. Hua Cheng is pretty much constructed to be extremely pleasing…
He is extremely bright, has a vast knowledge ( Is there a character that knows so much besides HC?), is beautiful, is very attentive, can do basically everything…Really…he may appear as the perfect love interest…
Besides the author used so many “romantic tropes” like in basically no other work that I have read yet…”the red string of fate”, a ring with the ash that signifies his weakness, the butterflies, the flower that reappears always between Hua Cheng and Xie Lian, 3000 lanterns,…It is really like she tried to make it the “most romantic work” of all three…
I think she overdid it a little, but good…the romance in this work was an entire miss for me. So basically she diverted the attention away from his rather problematic aspects…
5. The last point that comes to my mind is basically this:
Hua Cheng is a character that is coherent in its making….but there are so many holes…that you can basically interpret many things into him. I mean his backstory is more or less mentioned very briefly…I mean the parts that have nothing to do with Xie Lian…as if everything that doesn´t directly concern the main character is not important.
Personally I consider it a little sad…”Luo Binghe” of her first work “Scum Villain Self-Saving System” resembles Hua Cheng very much…but sorry to say…is a better depiction of a person that was abused…I know somebody like this myself and the depiction is very accurate (Though I must admit not everybody becomes like this…but the fear…the jealousy..the manipulation….are barely really a topic with Hua Cheng…They are there in some way, but nobody reacts to these traits….
The more problematic parts of Luo Binghe´s personality took central stage in Scum Villain…But that was also the reason why the work was not “well-received” ..The depiction of the main characters was pretty good, the plot coherent…but the romance lacked…since every idiot could see that the relationship was not “exactly healthy”. Still…I prefer Luo Binghe every time, since he feels real...like with Hua Cheng in order to appeal to the broad masses…his more problematic traits were diminished or were only an afterthought...

THE BOY WHO LOVED Ch. 14
-The Worst Birthday Day After-
-----
As soon as Marti opened his eyes for the first time he regretted it immediately. The sun was blazing inside his room, dazzling his eyes. And let´s not start talking about his head.
It. Hurt. Like. Hell.
Fuck.
He sank back into bed, throwing his arm over his eyes, trying to stop the sunlight from shining into his eyes.
Fuck alcohol! He´ll never even look at it again, ever!, he thought to himself whilst rolling around in bed slightly, trying to find a comfortable position and let out a groan.
He was about to stand up and go and get some aspirin from the bathroom as the memories of yesterday night came back to him. The bar. His friends. The girls. Niccolò. Their almost kiss.
Niccolò. Their almost kiss.
An instant smile appeared on Marti´s face.
He nearly kissed Nico. Nico nearly kissed him.
The boy he fell in love with.
The smile on Marti´s face became even wider and wider, thinking back to yesterday evening, their talk outside, Nico`s words.
And I like you, Marti. A lot.
The headache and hangover forgotten.
But only for a short time as his head started to roar again soon after.
He let out another groan before he turned around to take a look at his phone.
It was already noon, him having slept through the half day already.
And there where some new, unread messages.
 Il Contrabbandieri di Luchino
Luchino
Yesterday was SIcK
And Nico is so nice
Glad that I´ve invited him huh?
 Elia
Normally I would tell him to fuck off but I have to agree with him for once
Niccolò is a pretty nice dude
 Gio
He is!! It was nice meeting him
Marti looked down at his phone, smiling. His friends liked Nico. And his hopes were still there that they might not have a problem with them being more then friends. Boyfriends, maybe.
He looked at his phone again, seeing that there´s an unread message in his and Gio´s chat, clicking on it.
 Gio
Really Marti, Nico is a really nice guy
I´m glad you´ve met him
And I´m happy that you´ve found someone you get along with so well
Don´t forget me buddy
Marti had to laugh at Giovanni´s last message before he texted him back
 To Gio
Oh come on fuck off
As if I could ever forget you
 Gio
And you know you can talk to me whenever you want okay?
Marti starred at his screen for some time before he managed to type a simple answer.
 To Gio
Okay
Thank you
 Gio
No problem
He knows that he could talk to his best friend, tell him everything, about the way he feels, about Niccolò. But that small part in his brain, the one warning him of the possible outcome of him not wanting to talk to Marti anymore, is still there, standing in his way.
As he looked down on his phone again he saw that another message came in. A message from Nico.
 Nico Bookstagram
Good “morning”, Marti ;) Already awake??
Wouldn´t be surprised if not
It got a bit late yesterday
But it was nice. Thank you for inviting me!
Or let´s say thank you to Luchino and to you being so graceful to allow me to come ;)
Marti had to smile at Nico´s messages, the corners of his mouth drawing up immediately.
 Nico Bookstagram
And you´re cute when you´re drunk btw ;)
Nico called him cute. He thinks he´s cute.
Marti probably shouldn´t be surprised by such comments anymore. Nico had it proven to him over the time now that he likes dropping those from time to time, making Marti blush all the time. But still, even if he´s kind of used to it by now, his heart started beating faster and a big smile appeared on his face.
He sighed happily and content before he texted Niccolò back.
 To Nico Bookstagram
Haha very funny
 Nico Bookstagram
I know, I´m funny indeed huh?
Marti could really picture him grinning down at his phone right now. Having a smile on his lips, the same as yesterday, the same as he leaned in, wanting to kiss him.
 To Nico Bookstagram
The funniest
 Nico Bookstagram
I know I know
 To Nico Bookstagram
Anyway, are you free today? Would you like to meet?
 Nico Bookstagram
Oh, so no hangover anymore? ;)
 To Nico Bookstagram
Hangover`s still there
But seeing you might make it better you know
 Nico Bookstagram
Ah I see, that´s how it´s working now ;)
But I`m sorry Marti, I´m already meeting up with a friend of mine today L
What about next week
Marti caught himself pouting at his screen.
  To Nico Bookstagram
Next week sounds good
Have a nice day
 Nico Bookstagram
Thank you Marti, you too! :D
He sighed before he put his phone on his night stand again and finally stood up.
After quickly brushing his teeth and getting something to eat from the kitchen, Marti went back to his room, standing in front of his bookshelf now. It took him some time till he picked up a new book to read, “The Shining” by Stephen King, but he settled in on his bed real quick afterwards, opening the book and started reading.
“Jack Torrrance thought: Officious little prick.
Ullmann stood five-five, and when he moved, it was with the prissy speed that seems to be exclusive domain of all small plumb men.” …
-----
Time always passes fast, maybe even too fast when Marti is reading. And it doesn´t feels like it. Not at all.
About an hour later, Marti being on page 153 now, he put the book away and took a break from reading. He stretched himself a bit before he grabbed his phone again.
No new messages to answer so Marti decided to take a look on Instagram. He scrolled a bit through his timeline, liking and commenting in a few posts.
And then he saw that Nico had posted a new Insta story. He didn´t hesitate and clicked on it immediately.
It was a selfie, Nico smiling bright into the camera. The face he made was truly adorable. Next to him, a brown-haired girl, hugging him around the waist and smiling into the camera too. They seemed familiar.
The caption “What a beautiful day <3” added to the picture.
And only now Marti saw that Nico seemed to have tagged her.
@madda.lena
He knows that it shouldn´t bother him, that he shouldn´t be kind of jealous of her spending time with Nico and he also knows that he shouldn´t do this. But he couldn´t help and clicked on the name and started scrolling through her profile.
A few selfies of her, a few pics with friends Marti guesses. According to her profile she seems to study medicine, and then there were a few obligatory sky-pictures. And then he found a selfie of her and Nico.
His heart was bigger than his brain at the moment so he immediately clicked at it.
Nico was kissing her cheek on this one, a content look on both of their faces.
madda.lena: to the moon and back., said the caption of the post.
And even if he´s not sure about it, doesn´t know if it´s a good idea, Marti clicked on the comments and took a look on it.
giulia.bian_chi: Aww you both are still the cutes couple out there
de.luca_sofia: I wish my relationship would be as nice as yours
1alessia23: @de.luca_sofia Finally Dump his ass, he doesn´t even deserve you girl
de.luca_sofia: @1alessia23 Oh come on
nicoissurroundedbymuggles: I love you! <3
madda.lena: @nicoissurroundedbymuggles same, so so much. <3
nicoissurroundedbymuggles: @madda.lena <3 <3
 I love you! <3
I love you! <3, I love you! <3, I love you! <3
Nico loves her.
Her. Not him.
He looked down at his phone for another minute, reading the comments over and over again. He knows he probably shouldn´t do it but it´s as if his eyes are glued to the screen and he couldn´t look away. A single tear was slowly wandering down his cheek. And his heart was broken. In thousands of little splitters.
And this was the moment his crush, Nico, the boy he thought would be special, different, the boy he thought that could like him back, the boy he loved, it was the moment he turned into one of his stupid, hopeless crushes again.
-----
Well... here we go again, a new chaper. Wuhu :D Yes, it might be a bit too dramatic at the end but, as weird as this might sound now, it was actually fun writing it. Even if it´s not the most "happy-one" I hope you still enjoyed reading, well at least a little bit, and I would love to hear what you think of it in the comments <3

Words:
Summary
He was so broken and afraid of Love. Never thought he would return one’s love in full anymore.
a/b  you might realised that this part is much shorter compared to the other chapters, it was mainly because the story will come to an end really soon :’) I’m sorry for saying this, but don’t worry. The end of this series, doesn;t really mean the end.
Hearts beat fast as the skin brushed against each other. Fingers intertwined, tightly as it was glued. Eyes closed, mouths opened, breathing heavily as two beings made love to each other. Lust was taking over, while love was almost forgotten.
Once in a while you fought for a dominance, took in the sweet taste of his naked self, before you took turn, giving him the full control of yours.
That night, was heated. Moonlight shined in from the gap of the thick curtain of the window, shooting lights to the fabrics that was scattered on the floor.
Clock was ticking, intentionally not reminding the two beings what time it was until they passed out of exhaustions that sent them into a deep slumber with arms wrapped each other tight, under a blanket they shared.
It had been months since he asked you to be his lover and you didn't have the power to said no and that was not a wrong choice.
Being his lover automatically gave you a VIP pass for and to everything. From Dinner at expensive restaurants, parties at the top floor of the building, meet a lot of important people, bosses, businessmen, politicians even the controversial Japanese mafia to enjoying a champagne at 41 thousand ft above the ground on a private jet, when the owner, Yoo Kihyun, had to move countries for a meeting. But being his lover also gave you automatic hates from women who had a crush on him, which was a lot of them. Some would sneer at you when you walked passed them or even tried to spilled their hot coffee to your outfit.
Everything was basically all right, since you were now living like a queen, but one thing surely was still bothering you and it was Yoo Kihyun himself.
Yoo Kihyun snuggled and buried his head in the crook of your neck as your eyes looked at the ceiling above.
"You're awake already?" He realized as he let out a warm breath onto your skin. "It's five in the morning." He said lazily. His voice were hoarse, which you always found it sexy when he screamed out your name on the bed.
Pulling his fingers and locked them between yours, you the back of his hand softly. "I love you." You said.
He hummed and smiled with his eyes still closed. "Are you inviting me for a round two?" He chuckled lazily.
Blushed at his blunt attack, you smiled. "Well, it's only five in the morning, we still have—"
He cut you by kissing your neck, marking you again as he slowly moved up, trapped you between his body and the bed.
"I'm surprised you are not tired after what we've done last night." He smirked as he bit your lower lip a little too rough that made you moaned at the sensation.
"Kihyun," you called his name as he traced your lips with his soft finger.
"Hmm?" He hummed as he planted kisses on your collarbone.
"I love you." You said, one more time. You could feel his smile on your skin. "Babe,"
"Hmm?"
"I said i love you."
He stopped what he was doing and he looked at you. His face was just an inch away from you, lips almost touched as he began to speak. "I know."
"I know?" You repeated what he said. "I just said i love you and you replied with i know?" You protested.
"Babe. (Y/n), i know you love me. What do you want me to say, then?" He smiled.
"Well, the last time i heard you say i love you was... never." You sneered.
Kihyun put a strand of hair behind your back and brushed your cheek. "Are you going to talk about it now?"
"Do you love me?" You asked, which sent the boy to looked down and his hand fell from your cheek to the sheet beneath. "Answer me. We've been doing this for months yet you never said you love me. Not even once, Kihyun."
"(Y/n)," he exhaled.
"You brought me to parties and introduced me as your partner, your lover, but you never even once said you love m—"
"I don't." He said, calmly. You tried to digest what you just heard from his pretty mouth. "I don't love you." He made it clear.
Your hand flew right on his cheek. Slapped him hard enough to left a red mark on his pale cheek.
"Get off me!" You pushed him to the side and you quickly get off his bed, taking your oversized t-shirt from the floor and walked out of his room.
And he didn't even stop you from running away. He sat there on his bed, with his lower half covered in warm bed sheet and him looking at his own reflection on the translucent window, agreeing that he deserved the slap.
————
You never showed up at the office since that day. You ran from his penthouse, took nothing with you and spent your nights on your high school best friend's tiny apartment and worked at the café nearby at days.
Kihyun didn't seem to try to find you either, looking at he didn't send one of his men to your current place. Well, you think it was true. He didn't love you at all, that he only used you to get over his loneliness, saying that he needed you to help him to forget his late ex as an excuse to fuck a girl and in this case, to fuck you.
Your days were dull ever since. Getting up, shower, breakfast, get to work, get home, dinner, sleep, or sometime a movie night with your best-friend who was kind enough to let you sleep at her place without asking you to pay the rent.
You missed him. You missed his touch, you missed his existence, you missed... him.
"One chocolate croissant and one muffin." You handed the customer's order with a fake smile plastered on your face.
You turned around to get the next order ready. Two Americanos.
"Be careful giving this to him." Your colleague teased you as you poured the dark brown substance into the cups.
"Oh, Don't worry." You replied cooly. Turning around you shouted the order and the name written on the cups. "—for (y/n) and Ki..." you stopped reading it out loud as your eyes met a pair of familiar eyes.
"Yep. Mine." Kihyun stepped forward. "And as you read, that one is yours." He pointed at the drink he meant.
"Thank you, but i can't receive it." You smiled, acting like you didn't know him. "Have a good day."
"(Y/n)," he called. "Do you have a second?"
Turning around, you rubbed your hand with a clean towel before proceeding on making another drink. "Don't you see i'm busy?" You smiled again, sarcastically.
"Well, then. I think i just have to wait."
You rolled your eyes as you saw him walking to the table on the corner. He sipped down his coffee as he typed something on his phone, which you were sure it was a business-related, since he was never separated with his phone. Once in a while he read a red-covered book that he brought with him and he watched people getting in and out the subway station when he was bored.
Sun slowly disappeared between the dark clouds that was covering the sky and replaced by the moon. There were already three empty cups on his table. Kihyun sat with his legs crossed and his eyes stared far to the street.
"I'm sorry, but we're closing now." One of your colleague approached him.
"Oh, yeah. Sure. I'm going now." Kihyun smiled at her but his eyes were somewhere else; looking for you.
Wearing your jacket, you tried to avoid him, but you failed. He successfully recognized you just by the way you walk.
"(Y/n), we need to talk." He grabbed your wrist, stopping you right in front of the shop.
"There's nothing we need to talk about." You brushed off his grip.
"(Y/n), wait!" He grabbed your wrist again.
"What, Kihyun?" You snapped.
"Please give me a chance to explain everything. Please!" He begged. His eyes softened.
"There's nothing to explain, Kihyun."
"I was wrong."
"No. You're right. You never loved me. I get it."
"No. I love you." You stopped walking. "I just didn't realise it." He walked closer. "After you left, i felt... empty. I miss you."
"Bullshit." You scoffed as you turned to him. "Then why didn't you try to find me? Why did you come to where i work weeks after i left when you said you missed me?"
"You really did think i didn't try to find you?" He loosened his tie. "Do you think why would your friend didn't mind you living with her without paying rent?" Your eyes squinted. "And why do you think you could got the job that easy?"
"You..."
"Yes, i paid your friend a good sum of money as the pay rent and i bought that café because i know you'd apply for a job there." He explained. "And remember when you were almost slipped at the stairs at the metro station and someone helped you—"
"Was he your person?"
"I sent a guy to watch over you."
Now that you recalled everything that happened after you left his house, you realized everything was running smoothly.
"I love you, (y/n). I was just too late to realised that." He grabbed your hand. "Now, Will you go back to my house?"
————
The elevator stopped and once it dinged, you stepped out your feet out the elevator, following Kihyun who had his fingers trapped between yours.
"I miss this house." You commented as the door swung opened.
"I miss you being in this house." He kissed your forehead before marching to the living room.
"Yeah, if only you were not stupid enough to reali—"
"Will you tell me who is she, Son?"
You both flinched at the sudden feminine voice from the kitchen bar. A sight of a middle age woman sitting on the stool with a glass of dry wine in her hand, caught your attention.
"What are you doing here?"
"Is that how you greet your mom?"
You quickly fixed your standing position after you heard the word 'mom'.
"And you haven't answered me. Who is she?"
Kihyun pulled you closer to him and squeezed your shoulder softly. "She's my girlfriend." You looked startled.
"I don't know you do girlfriend-boyfriend thing after she passed away." She responded as she made her way closer to you, observing you from head to toe– no, judging you.
"What is her father's net worth? He's on the B right? 50?" She asked. You stayed silent. "40? 30?" You kept silent, didn't know what to answer. "10?"
"Mom, stop."
"I knew it. She doesn't come from a rich family." She sneered.
"What if she does not and what if she does?" Kihyun looked at his mom's eyes intensely.
"Broke up with him." She ordered, before gulping down her wine.
Your eyes widened. "And leave the house by tomorrow morning."
"What the fuck are you saying?" Kihyun defended.
"Yoona will be moving in starting tomorrow and your marriage with her has been arranged." She brushed Kihyun's cheek softly. "Be prepared, dear."

I have already read all the backstory about YW and still I don't like the guy at all (I really wish that HB goes to America and finds a person that really appreciate and loves him, not some a***ole like YW), once again sorry to all the YW lovers, but try to be realistic about him for a minute, the only good thing about him is his undeniable love for his mother, being handsome shouldn't be enough to forget all the damage hi has caused so far to wonderful people (JM and HB).
Why I still don’t like him? well, first: a shitty childhood can’t be enough to forgive all the actions of YW until this point, so If he steals his friend’s jar all shall be forgiven ‘cos he is a child and he’s just jealous?, sorry but nothing excuse a person to steal another person possession and what is more amazing is how he is totally incapable of some sort of empathy with other people feelings, he has always thought about himself and his mother without thinking about how all his actions have hurt a lot of people in the process (Semi, JB, JM) and he actually doesn´t even care, so why exactly should YW be liked? all because of his face? that’s all you look for in your SO? I don’t think so.
Second: in ch 84 is evident that all for him is a game and he just want something fun to past the time, because he’s always bored and needs some new entertaiment (HB in this case T_T), he admits it “at the start, it was a joke” so he didn’t kiss HB out of love (be realistic, he wanted to make HB nervous and he succeded, he wasn’t think “oh, how cute looks HB or I kind of like him”, nope, everything was a big fat joke to him, har har ¬_¬).
Third: I don´t really care if after that kiss he began to fall in love or whatever, the facts are that he toyed from the begining with HB insecurities and feelings, is that a good start for a relationship? then, let´s keep going, they start dating, so why not use a girl and her feelings for me to date another guy without suspicions, great plan, ‘cos that’s what YW wanted at the time, meanwhile HB’s father finds out about their relationship and I’m totally sure he threatens his own son and beat him up a few times (ch 21 flashback can be a perfect example of what HB had to endure to be with YW), and after all that drama YW realizes that the most important thing is his mother and his future, so nothing else matters, even after all the suffering HB has to go through for his selfish whim.
Fourth: so because of YW arrogance and confidence about HB’s feelings for him, after thinking for a while, he just breaks up with him in the most painful possible way for HB, and when he finally realizes about the progress in JM and HB relationship, YW finally understand that HB is not a puppy that will wait all his life to get his feelings returned, not HB, he’s a normal guy and one’s life should go on, you can’t possible expect that a person’s love will continue forever and ever without the right nourishment (and even less when he was throw away to be picked up later without even knowing the oh so great plan of YW), that’s not how it works and if YW really thought that HB will be his puppet and will dance to his rhythm he was awfully mistaken and now he has pay the price, what really satisfies me.
To summarize I can’t like a person that starts an homosexual relationship with an innocent and lonely guy just for fun (YW has mentioned a couple of times that HB is funny and fun to be with), makes him go through rough times with his violent father, then breaks up with him but when someone else show interest in him, he just made up with him as if nothing had happened and expects that all goes just the way he wants until the end without really understanding the pain and sorrow of HB, and actually has the nerve to tell his mother that “I foolishly looked past how much she(he) was hurting”, sorry but he is just a pretty a***ole to me.)
OH MY LORD ANON YOU WROTE A BOOK I RESPECT YOU. okay hold on i’m gonna try and respond to everything i can cause this is really interesting! i’ll answer them in the order of the reasons you listed to make things less messy ^^;; i’m also putting this under a cut cause it’s gonna be SO LONG
1) for me, i think author-nim showed yoo won’s back story to really drive home one thing aside from furthering the plotline/giving insight into his background: it was to show that yoo won was a character with flaws as well. of course, stealing the jar wasn’t a bright idea, and it shouldn’t be something to be waved off because “he was just a kid”. but it showed that yoo won, this person we’ve been seeing as this perfect and beautiful guy everyone admires in the present timeline, also has had his low points. he’s made mistakes and that makes him more human. in terms of his lack of empathy, i put that all on the circumstances he was put through. i mean, this kid was in fifth grade when his so-called first friend beat him up in front of his class, got completely ignored by everyone, and even openly teased by others in front of the teacher without repercussions. his personality drastically changed after that, and i think that made him sort of numb to others around him ever since he started closing himself off from anyone getting too close. and we can’t forget the reason why he’s started to only focus on his mother is because dong rae, the person who completely changed his life, gave him that one piece of advice before leaving: to live for only one thing and bury the rest in your heart. yoo won undoubtedly chose his mother, and has been following dong rae’s mantra all the way into his college years. he isn’t intentionally ignoring how his actions might be affecting others, i just think he’s grown used to not attuning himself to others since he lost his trust in their sincerity because of past issues
2) i can see how this kiss could be controversial since it’s evident that yoo won wasn’t taking this whole “wanna go out” thing seriously, but i still think there was some genuine interest on his part when he went in to kiss hee bum. HONESTLY, i don’t think he’d planned on going as far as kissing him until hee bum asked “but why do you want to date me?”. his internal monologue proved that when he stated that had hee bum not asked that question, he would’ve just been another hoobae yoo won liked to tease. so yeah, although him starting it off as a joke wasn’t really a romantic (or nice) start, i don’t think yoo won did everything for the sole purpose of messing with hee bum, since he has shown a lot of interest in getting closer to hee bum prior to this.
3) even if eldo’s claims that she was used as a shield were true, in the end i still think she still had the choice of breaking away from that role if she chose to. yes, yoo won might have had asked eldo to hang occasionally because it seemed more natural as a trio, but eldo also decided that she would pretend to get along with hee bum because she wanted to get yoo won’s attention. and in terms of hee bum’s dad (who i hate), i definitely don’t think yoo won was completely blind to the abuse. yoo won mentioned that even when the dad did find out, hee bum didn’t say anything about breaking up because he still wanted to be with yoo won. i can’t put the blame on yoo won for that, that’s all on his dad for being a terrible and abusive person. and don’t forget that yoo won did try to break it off with hee bum at the beginning. hee bum was the one who was completely in denial that they would break up, even chasing yoo won down to the academy to try and get back together. it wasn’t as if yoo won was forcing hee bum to stay in a relationship with him regardless of the abuse he was going through. hee bum was even more adamant on staying together.
4) this one confused me a bit because hee bum was the one who broke it off with yoo won, not the other way around. but you’re right that yoo won getting dumped was when he realized that hee bum wouldn’t be waiting around for him in the back, constantly giving him love. i think that realization is an important starting point for yoo won to address that he’s really closed himself off too much from others, even hee bum, while trying to prioritize his mother’s health and happiness. for me, i saw it as a precursor for yoo won to really develop in terms of how he treats others and putting the whole “throw away everything but one single thing” idea into a new perspective. i don’t particularly think yoo won is a bad person for this, though. just a pitiful person. he grew up believing he couldn’t really rely on anyone and followed the last advice given from a major significant figure in his childhood, and that led to the distant and whimsical way he was treating his relationship with hee bum.
5) but while it might have started off as a joke, like yoo won said, they did seem to develop to the point where both of them were equally committed to the relationship. i don’t think hee bum was forced into it, since he has the personality and nature to easily rebuff and back away from something he doesn’t like. i definitely don’t think yoo won made hee bum go through his father’s abuse. it’s not like yoo won told hee bum’s dad to hit hee bum for being in a relationship with him. even still, hee bum kept pushing to pursue the relationship even after yoo won broke up with him. for the last subpoint, i do think this only happens because of miscommunication on both ends. yoo won had the belief that hee bum would always be there for him and so he didn’t put much effort in maintaining that relationship because of it. but hee bum also never really voiced his concerns to yoo won. all those things about “feeling like he loved yoo won more than yoo won loved him” and being upset about it - these were all things he told jumi, not yoo won. i think yoo won was oblivious to just how much it was bothering hee bum because he never even mentioned it around him, which is why he kept thinking that hee bum was still in love with him and that everything was perfectly fine. that’s why i think they both need to talk to each other, fully and openly, so that these issues stop driving them apart.

Devoted - Ch. 37 - Feathers
Tumblr media
The carriage traveled through the forest for a long while, before coming to a stop in front of a quaint little cottage. The women stepped out with the babies, as the man unloaded their luggage.
Tumblr media
        “Anything else, Princess?”
“Yes… I’m sure my husband will come questioning you very soon. Please have some discretion as to whom you tell of our location.”
“Say no more, Your Majesty.” He didn’t blame her for running away from Loki. All he knew of the Prince was that he was intimidating and mean. He bowed and mounted the carriage.
“Thank You.” She said as the man clicked his tongue, leading the horses away.
Sigyn sighed as she turned and looked at the lovely little home. She approached the door, and knocked timidly. She could hear shuffling steps on the other side, and the door cracked open. A bright eye peeked out, growing very wide when it saw who was on the doorstep. The door was thrown open and a man dashed out.
Tumblr media
“Sigyn? My daughter!” He put his arms out to hug her and then noticed the bundle she was snuggling tightly. He was very confused. He looked from the baby, and back to Sigyn. She moved out of the way, and her father saw Asta carrying an identical bundle. His mouth dropped open.
        “Father, may we come in?”
“Of course.” He cupped her face with his hands. “I never thought I would see you again after what happened between us.” He kissed her forehead. “Come on.”
Sigyn nodded, and the five of them entered the home. She looked around before sitting on the couch. Nothing had changed since she was taken to the palace many years ago.
Tumblr media
“Father, this is Asta, she is my dearest friend.”
He looked at her and smiled. “I’m happy to have you in my home, Asta. Sigyn… would you introduce me to the little bundles you both have in your arms?”
“Yes, Father… this is Vali… and that is Nari. They are my sons.”
His eyes filled with tears. “These are my grandsons?”
Sigyn smiled. “Would you like to hold them?”
He didn’t speak… he just nodded. She stood and placed Vali in her father’s arms. He pulled back the baby’s blanket, and gasped. “He’s beautiful, my daughter, look at those cheeks!” She took Nari from Asta, and placed him in her father’s other arm. He looked at Nari, and smiled. “It’s just like holding you when you were a baby, Sigyn. Look…”
He tilted his head to the painting on the wall of Sigyn as an infant… it looked just like Nari, only Nari had a bit more hair.
“Oh… they are both perfect.” He looked up at her, addressing the awkwardness that hung in the room. “What’s happened, daughter? Not that I’m not overjoyed that you are here, I am… I just know something is wrong, otherwise you’d be up there in that palace.”
Sigyn looked down at her clasped hands, as more tears began to slide down her cheeks. Asta moved to sit beside her and grabbed her hand.
“I don’t know, father. It’s a very long story, and I’m not sure I want to go back over it so soon.”
“Does it have to do with the Prince?”
She looked into her father’s wet eyes. “Yes.”
He nodded, as he knew the answer before she had said it. “Well, I will be here when you decide to talk. You know you can both stay here as long as you’d like.”
“Thank you. Asta, let’s move our things into my old room.”
The girls went to deposit their bags, as Eirich sat and stared at his tiny grandsons. They were perfect, in spite of who their father was. He clearly remembered the day Loki showed up on his doorstep asking for Sigyn’s hand. He had told him a very firm no, because he knew what Loki was… He knew that his daughter would end up hurting because of him. Apparently that was not enough, Loki got what he wanted anyway.
Sigyn warmed up some soup and sat with her father as she ate. She hadn’t eaten since the day before, and she was positively starving. Asta was making herself a pallet to sleep on in the floor in Sigyn’s room.
“Daughter, I didn’t even know you were with child. It has all happened so fast. I assume you married the Prince?”
“Yes.” She could see the disappointment cloud her father’s face. “I found out I was with child a month after we were married. It did happen very fast. We held a naming ceremony for them a few days ago. I half-way expected to see you there.”
“I had no idea. I don’t usually get event invitations all the way out here, otherwise you know I would have been there.”
She smiled at him. They sat in silence while she finished eating. It was nice to see her father, even though she missed Loki. She took the babies and placed them in her bed, lifting her nightgown to nurse them. She laid beside them, stroking their tiny heads, wishing she was back in her bed in the palace. Asta fell asleep on the pallet she had made on the floor, and the babies fell asleep shortly after. Sigyn laid awake thinking of everything that had happened, and if there was something she could have done differently to prevent all of this. She was so exhausted, mentally and physically, but as soon as her eyes closed all she could see was her husband and that whore in her bed. She sighed, realizing she just might be up all night…
 ————————————————
The feast was finally over, and Loki couldn’t wait until he could get back to Sigyn… maybe she had a change of heart, and would be sitting in her chair when he returned, ready to talk to him. As he walked down the hall to his door, he noticed it was very quiet. Usually there was something going on… Asta cleaning, or bringing dinner… the babies crying… but all was silent. His eyebrows furrowed, and he got a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach. Loki entered their chambers slowly, and noticed the nursery door was open. He began to search for Sigyn and his sons. They weren’t in the nursery… they weren’t in the bed… He loudly knocked on Asta’s door, and got no answer. He knew something was wrong. He looked in Sigyn’s closet, and noticed her clothes were gone.
          She had left him.
He thought quickly… there was really no place for her to go. He was just with the entire palace at the feast. Thor, Odin… everyone was there, so there was no way they could have helped her leave. The only way she would have gotten away from the palace with the babies is by carriage. He took off in a sprint toward the stables. When the stable boy saw Loki approaching, he began to tremble.
“Boy, have you seen my wife and children?”
The young boy’s voice cracked as he spoke. “Um… Uh… I don’t remember, Your Majesty.”
“Oh, for mercy’s sake. This is important!”
He pushed past him to the older man in the back. The man saw him, and immediately bowed. “My Prince. Should I retrieve your horse?”
“Yes, right after you tell me where you took my wife.”
The man began to shake. “My Prince… I cannot tell you that. She swore me to secrecy. I’m sorry… please have mercy on me, Your Majesty.” The man cowered before Loki, half expecting for the Prince to hit him. Instead, Loki wrapped his fingers around the man’s throat, lifting him into the air and slamming him up against the wooden stable wall. The man began to sputter and spit as Loki tightened his hold on the man’s neck. As a blue hue came over the man’s skin, Loki loosened his grip so the man could breathe. He looked into the man’s eyes, as he struggled to catch his breath.
“You will tell me where you took her, or you will die. Are you prepared to go to Hel?”
“No, My Prince… but I cannot betray the Princess. You must understand.” The man began to cry as Loki towered over him, laughing menacingly.
“Ahh… well, your allegiance does not lie with the Princess…”
He reached into his coat to retrieve his dagger, as the man caught the glint of the light reflecting off the steel. Loki pressed it to the man’s throat.
“… it lies with me, and you are asking me to understand?”
Loki spat in his face. “This is what I understand… My wife and children could be in danger right now… and you won’t tell me where you took her? If anything happens to her, I will hang you up by your ankles and skin you alive… just like a deer. Understand?”
The man closed his eyes and whispered. “Please forgive me, Princess.” He fell to his knees and began to sob. “Your Majesty, I took her to a small cottage in the dark woods. I don’t know who lived there. It wasn’t my place to ask…”
Loki pulled the dagger from the man’s throat, and wiped the tiny smudge of the man’s blood onto his pants. He knew exactly where she was.
        “Get my horse.”
He nodded as he saddled Byr, leading him outside. Loki took the reins and mounted the steed, clicking his tongue and digging his heels into the horse’s hind end, making him race ahead. Loki rode the path for what seemed like an eternity, finally arriving at the small cottage. He dismounted Byr, and tied his rope to the post in the yard. It was dark in the house, signaling that everyone was already in bed, but that did not matter to him. Approaching the door, he used his fists to beat on the weathered wood.
“Sigyn!” He yelled. “I know you are here. Please come out and talk to me.”
She gasped and sat up in the bed. The sound didn’t bother the boys, as they slumbered soundly beside her. She jumped as Loki rapped loudly on the door again. She heard the creak of the front door hinge, as it was opened, and heard her father’s voice outside.
“My Prince, Sigyn is asleep with the boys. You should come back tomorrow, maybe she will be ready to talk to you then.”
“No, I won’t, I am here now. You do not understand. My heart is in there in that bed… Sigyn and my sons… They are my heart, and I cannot live without my heart!” Loki was becoming irate.
Tumblr media
“Your Majesty, I do not know why Sigyn is here. She did not tell me, and I didn’t pry. Whatever you did to her…” Eirich shook his head. “It must have been pretty bad for her to come back to me. Quite frankly, I would love nothing more than to gut you for hurting my daughter, but I won’t, because she loves you. You need to love her while you have her, because coming from experience, you never know when she won’t be there! I wish every day that I still had my Kari, but wishing doesn’t bring her back. You have two perfect sons in there that I know you don’t want to lose.” He sighed. “You need to give her time. She will talk to you when she is ready.”
Sigyn heard her father come back into the house, and lock the door behind him. After that, all was silent. No more yelling… no more knocking. Had he left? She didn’t know, but she laid down, pulled her boys to her and finally drifted back off to sleep.
The next morning she awoke to the smell of bacon and eggs cooking on the stove. She sat up and stretched, seeing that Vali and Nari were both awake and babbling at her. She smiled, and leaned down to kiss each of them on the cheek. She went ahead and fed them before wrapping her robe around herself, and venturing out into the kitchen. Eirich was at the stove cooking, as Asta sat at the dining table drinking tea.
Eirich spotted Sigyn first. “Good Morning, daughter.”
“Morning, father.” She offered him a small smile, before sitting down in the chair beside Asta.
“Should I get the boys?” Asta asked.
“No, I just fed them and they drifted back off to sleep.”
Eirich put a full plate in front of each one of them, as he sat down. “Sigyn, you had a visitor last night.”
She nodded. “Yes, I heard. I am sorry.”
“He’s still out there.” He said as he put a slice of bacon to his mouth.
“He’s…what? Asta, will you keep an eye on the boys?” Sigyn immediately stood, and walked to the door. She put her hand on the knob, and very quietly and slowly cracked it open. Peeking out, she saw Loki, sleeping on his back atop the dirt in front of the door. His skin had a sheen to it, as it and his armor were covered by the morning dew. He was going to make sure that no one left that house until he talked to her.
She opened the door, and stepped over him. She had never heard of a Prince of Asgard sleeping in the dirt before… all she knew was that he deserved it. She walked over to the paddock where her father kept his horse, got a bucketful of hay, and brought it over to Byr. She held the straw to the horse’s mouth as she heard Loki stirring. He let his eyes adjust to the light, as he wiped the wetness off of his face. He sat up and saw her feeding Byr, running her fingers through his long black mane. It took all the strength that he could muster not to run over there and wrap his arms around her.
Tumblr media
“Sigyn?” She heard him say her name, but she didn’t turn to look at him.
He stood, stretching his stiff body, and carefully approached her, tip-toeing like he was approaching a wild, unpredictable animal.
        “Darling?”
She finally turned to look at him, and she could truly see the sorrow in his face. His skin was even more pale than normal, and he had dark circles around his eyes. He was still wet from the dew, and when the moisture mixed with the red dirt from the ground, it created large clumps of mud in his hair.
“You look horrible.” Sigyn said bluntly.
He looked down at the ground, and his jaw clenched.
“Sigyn, you have no idea how sorry I am. I know I made an enormous mistake. You have to believe me, I did not touch Elena.”
Sigyn winced at hearing that name.
“I swear it. I desire you, and only you. I do not want that girl! I just wanted you to be jealous. I saw you and Thor in the garden together… and I just lost it. Sigyn, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Ever since I used that potion…” He shook his head. “I hear these evil voices in my head saying horrible things… tempting me to do things that I know are wrong. My heart still knows better, but my head is full of darkness, darling, and I don’t know how to fix it.”
Sigyn wondered for a moment if all of this was her fault. If he hadn’t have had to use that potion on her, then none of this would have happened. Her husband wouldn’t be going through this darkness, and they would probably be happy together right now. However, it wasn’t her fault that the dark elves attacked, and it wasn’t her fault that she was slain. Loki did what he thought was necessary by using the potion. She was still very angry at him, but she would not abandon her husband at the most desperate, dark point in his life.
“You must be hungry… and you could really use a bath. It’s a long way back to the palace.”
He looked at his filthy clothes, nodding his head.
She thought for a moment before inviting him in. “Well, come on. Take your boots off outside.” She walked through the door and Eirich and Asta looked up at her, not expecting for Loki to be following her. Asta stood and bowed.
        “My Prince.”
“Sit down, Asta. I’m afraid I don’t really deserve that right now.”
He looked at Eirich, and noticed the man looked disheartened at seeing him. He couldn’t blame him. Sigyn led him to the only bathroom, and got a towel and washcloth out of the cupboard, laying them on the side of the tub.
“I will get you some fresh clothes… I’m sure my father will have some you can borrow.”
“Thank you Sigyn. You are being incredibly kind, and I am not worthy of it.”
She smiled. “No, probably not, but you are my husband and I do still love you.”
He cupped her chin, and tilted her face up to meet his. “You do? You still love me?”
“Yes, Loki… I will always love you, even when you are not worthy.” She backed away, until she was out of his reach. “I will be back with your clothes.”
He nodded as she went in search of something that would fit his tall, lean body. He disrobed, and submerged himself in the hot water, seeing it turn red with the clay dirt coming out of his hair. Sigyn knocked, and returned to the bathroom with a stack of clothing.
“This is all I could find, it will have to do for now. When you get done, come and eat. My father cooked breakfast.”
He smiled and she shut the door behind her. He relaxed for a moment, and he heard the soft cry of a baby. He had missed his sons, and just hearing them made him feel much better. He scrubbed every last inch of himself, and stepped out of the tub using the blue towel to dry off. This bathroom was much different than his in the palace. He barely had room to turn his tall body around in here without hitting something. He grabbed the shirt that Sigyn had brought him, and slipped it on over his head. It was a plain light brown linen tunic that had leather laces in the front, and a pair of deep brown linen pants. They were loose on him, but hopefully he could keep them cinched around his waist.
He stepped barefoot into the hallway, and heard Sigyn’s voice coming from a bedroom down the hall. Instead of going to the dining room, he followed her voice. Peeking his head around the door, he saw Sigyn laying on her side on the bed feeding Nari. She was softly singing, and Loki could barely make out the words…
        “Sleep, sleep, my darling, sleep;
What’s there to fear when I am here?
        Sleep, sleep, my baby, sleep.”
He smiled as he crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe. He watched her until she noticed him.
“Loki, you need to go eat.”
“Watching you with my son is feeding my soul more than food could ever feed my body.”
When Nari finished and had fallen asleep, Sigyn tucked herself back into her nightgown, and led Loki into the dining room. Eirich and Asta had eaten and retired to the living room, so Sigyn directed Loki to sit down at the dining table while she fixed his breakfast plate. She placed it in front of him, and he began to greedily eat his bacon and eggs. She poured him a glass of freshly squeezed juice, and sat down beside him.
“Will you come home, darling? I can’t stay there without you. It’s so empty without your bright smile and the boys tiny noises.” He placed his hand on hers, and ran his finger over the golden band that she still, thankfully, wore. “Please, darling. I am not above begging.”
She had to look away from him when his emerald eyes began to bore into her blue ones, and she felt a twinge rooted deeply inside of her stomach. This man affected her like no other and she knew the longer she looked at him, the quicker her resolve would fail. Sigyn wanted to go home with him that very moment, but she held fast and resisted. She needed more time. “We will possibly come home tomorrow, or the next day… I need to spend at least one more night here with my father.”
She could see the sadness spread across Loki’s face. He thought about what Eirich said about giving her time, so that is what he would do.
“If that is what you need.”
She nodded. “It is. I will send for a carriage when I am ready to come home…” Loki thought getting Sigyn to come home would be much easier than that, and the fact that she was choosing to stay with her father pierced his heart like a poisoned arrow. “Speaking of carriages, I cannot believe the man that brought us here told you where we were. He swore to me he wouldn’t.”
“He certainly didn’t want to, darling. I forced him with my dagger.”
“My gods, Loki. You didn’t kill him did you?”
“No, I didn’t kill him. I just promised to string him up by his ankles and skin him alive if he didn’t tell me where he took you.”
Poor guy. She felt guilty that he had been assaulted by Loki just because he was trying to obey her.  They both heard Vali let out a tiny whimper, and she rose to go check on him.
“After you finish your breakfast, you should probably get back to the palace. People are going to wonder where you are.”
He reluctantly nodded his head, as she turned her back on him and walked down the hall. He finished his eggs, and ran water over his plate, finally depositing it in the sink. He walked back to Sigyn’s room and peeked his head around the corner. She was facing the other wall, as she pulled her nightgown over her head leaving her nude. He took in each tiny freckle that delicately adorned her back and shoulders, and the dimples he loves that are placed right above her bottom. She knelt on the floor in front of her bag as she pulled out underwear and a dress, placing them on the bed beside her. Loki was in awe of this woman before him… his wife… his lover… the mother of his children. She was graceful and lovely, and he smiled… she was still his. She reached around herself, hooking her black lace bra into place, then bent over to pull on her matching panties. She unfolded her dress, and tried to shake the wrinkles out. When she packed she was in such a hurry that she just threw everything into her bags, and now all her clothes had creases in them in consequence. She heard Loki clear his throat behind her, and she jumped straight up into the air like a cat.
        “Shit! Loki! You scared me.”
He chuckled at her. He knew he had really scared her for her to swear like that. “I’m sorry, darling. I didn’t mean to.” He approached her as she stood before him in her underwear, holding her dress in her hands. His hand brushed against her cheek, and she silently prayed that she would remain strong. “Thank you for loving me, Sigyn. I would be meaningless without you… I realize that now.”
She stepped away from him, wanting to limit as much physical contact as possible… knowing that the more he touched her, the more she wanted to surrender to him. She pulled her casual, thin-strapped dress over her head, and smoothed it into place.
“Loki, you need to say goodbye to your sons, and get back to the palace… please.” She could see the hurt and pain in his eyes as he scooted onto the bed beside the babies, kissing them each on the forehead.
“You boys have to take good care of your Ma until you come home. You have to be strong little men for her. I love and miss you more than you know.” Standing up, he wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed Sigyn on the forehead too, before he walked out of the room. He gathered up his dirty clothes, and walked into the sitting room.
“Eirich, I would like to thank you for your hospitality. You have been more kind to me than I would have been, if I were you. I promise you that when Sigyn comes home to me, I will take much better care of her than I did before.”
Tumblr media
Eirich gave Loki a quick nod. He wouldn’t mind it if Sigyn stayed here with him forever… but he knew that she truly loved her husband, and it wasn’t his place to keep her here. Her duty was to him and their children now. Loki turned to Sigyn, who was leaning on the kitchen doorframe watching him.
“I will walk you out, husband.” She led the way, with Loki following her closely, and she did not stop walking until they reached Byr.
“I hope to see you very soon, Sigyn. I will be miserable without you, you have to know that.”
Sigyn thought very carefully for a moment before she spoke. “Loki, when I come home, Elena must be gone. I will not look at her again.”
He nodded enthusiastically. “Do not worry. As soon as I get back to the palace, she will be gone.”
He reached out to her, wrapping his long arms around her, and squeezed her tightly. Suddenly, every tear that she had been trying so hard to repress in front of him flowed out of her eyes like tiny rivers. He felt her body tremble, and pulled her even tighter to his chest. She clenched her eyes shut, and buried her face into his chest, sobbing like a child.
“Please don’t cry. I am so sorry, this is all my fault. I don’t know what I was thinking…”
“Every time I close my eyes, I just see you with that whore in my bed, Loki! It’s tormenting me! How can I trust you now?”
He cupped her face in his hands, and looked deeply into her eyes. “You must believe me, Sigyn. I desire no woman but you, and I never will. I hurt you, I know, and I will make it up to you, I promise… you just have to give me a chance. Please…”
She nodded. She hoped he was being truthful, and that nothing had really happened between him and Elena. She had no way of knowing for sure, she would just have to trust him. He leaned down, placing a sweet kiss on her lips.
        “I love you, Sigyn.”
        “I love you, too.”
He smiled at her as he placed his foot in the stirrup, and mounted Byr.
        “I will see you soon?”
Tumblr media
She nodded, trying to reassure him. She wrapped her arms around herself, as she watched him ride down the path, keeping her eyes trained on him until she couldn’t see him anymore. Not wanting to go back into the house just yet, she found a seat on her father’s wooden swing in the middle of two large trees. He had built it after Sigyn had learned to walk, and she had wonderful memories of sitting in that very swing with him just talking. He loved to tell her tall tales, and whether they were all true or not didn’t matter… they were all larger than life, and she adored them.
She noticed a bird’s nest that had been built in a plant beside the swing, with beautiful speckled eggs in it. She was wondering where the mother bird was when her thought was interrupted by her father’s voice.
“I didn’t have the heart to destroy that nest. Isn’t is amazing?”
She nodded and wiped her tears quickly, even though she knew Eirich had seen her puffy eyes and red face. He sat beside her, grabbing her hand and patting it.
“I love you, Sigyn. You were the only person, besides your mother, that ever mattered to me, and I am worried. I wish you would talk to me. What has happened?”
Sigyn didn’t answer him immediately, she stared blankly at the ground not knowing exactly what to say.  “Loki has hurt me, father.”
Eirich’s face began to grow red. “Has he abused you? Has he placed his hands on you?”
“Oh, no… nothing like that.” She sighed. “It’s something that hurts much worse… my heart.”
He pulled Sigyn to him, wrapping his arms around her, and she laid her head on his chest. They stayed like that for what seemed like hours… Her father rocking her like he used to do when she was a little girl. He saw her golden necklace hanging from her neck, and he picked the pendant up with his fingers.
        “This is unusual…”
Sigyn looked down at it, and smiled. “Loki gave that to me on our wedding day. I was almost wed to Gunnar, as you know… until Loki stopped it. The feather meant freedom to him, which is what he said he was giving me by marrying me. Unfortunately, it’s been quite the opposite.”
Eirich didn’t like hearing that… instead of having freedom, it sounded like she was more of a caged bird, having to gain permission before flying.
“Sigyn, you know that you do not have to stay with him. You could come home. You know I would help you raise Nari and Vali. They would have everything they needed out here, and I would enjoy getting to see them everyday.”
She quickly denied her father’s offer. “No, I love my husband. He has a side to him that is gentle, loving, incredibly warm and affectionate. It’s his other side that bothers me. That side is unpredictable and jealous, and sometimes I don’t know which side I will get. He is a wonderful man, really… just a bit misdirected at times. I will have Loki as long as he will have me. He loves me, and he loves his boys… I just have to figure out how to help him.”
Eirich kissed his daughter on her forehead, as he continued to study her necklace. “You see all those feathers in that bird’s nest?”
        Sigyn nodded her head.
Tumblr media
“The mother bird lined that nest with her own feathers… she sacrificed her beautiful feathers just to make it comfortable, warm and safe for her babies. She is so strong, that she sits out in the rain, in the wind… and weathers anything else that gets thrown her way, just to protect them. We don’t always have all the answers, Sigyn, and I certainly don’t know why things happen the way they do, but the constant thing in your life are those twin boys in there. They are perfect in every way…”
Talking through the tears trailing down her cheeks, she asked, “So you are telling me to use my feathers to protect my babies?”
“Mmm-Hmm… and also use them to protect your husband if you choose to be with him. Wrap your wings around the three of them, and do everything in your power to make sure they know you love them. You never know when that will be taken away. You will find a way for your family… just like that mother bird does.”
She tucked her head against her father’s chest, and closed her eyes. She thought Frigga always gave her the best advice, but what her father just said was possibly the most important thing she thought she would ever hear.
“Princess, the babies need you!” Asta shouted from the door.
“Okay, I am coming!” She looked up at her father. “Thank you.”
He wiped the tears from her cheeks. “You are welcome, daughter.”
Sigyn hurried into the house to nurse the boys, as Eirich stayed out on the swing for a while thinking. He really had a remarkable daughter, and even though he wanted to do everything in his power to protect her, he knew that she had to spread her own wings and fly.

“I’m not jealous.” for Rei and Theron because they are great.
last time i tried to write this it turned into the beginning of a three part family drama fic so let’s try again. (it got away from me again oops)rei/theron, set early during kotfe. on AO3 and FFN as ch. 8 of Parallels.
A flashof lightning lit up the hangar bay, and the resulting thunder rumbled ominouslythrough the mostly-empty room. The occasional gust of wind drove rain into thehangar, leaving the floor wet for a few meters at the entrance.
Rei and Zaara were much further inside, inno danger of getting wet; the area they’d set up to spar in was closer to the backof the hangar, not far from where Beywan typically oversaw what little militaryforce the Alliance currently had. Theron himself was up on one of thecrosswalks, looking down into the hangar bay. He’d originally stopped by tospeak with Beywan, but had found himself somewhat distracted by the sparringpractice going on.
He hadn’t known that Rei had any skill inhand-to-hand combat, though he’d practiced with Zaara, a few times, when shewas still trying to get back on her feet after being released from thecarbonite. Theron watched as they went back and forth, unable to keep frommaking notes to himself; they were both quick, but Zaara was more precise andRei never missed the opportunity to make a strike.
As another crack of thunder boomed throughthe hangar, Zaara took two quick hits that knocked Rei off of her feet — Theronwinced; it was a hard fall, even with the mats they’d set up to train on —but Rei rolled and popped up, still grinning.
“I’mdone for the day,” Zaara surrendered, holding her hands up and taking a stepbackwards. “But it was good.”
Theron couldn’t make out Rei’s response, but shedisappeared off to the side as Zaara slowly made her way up to the crosswalk. “Somethingtells me you’ll be sore in the morning,” he guessed, giving the agent anunderstanding smile as she joined him.
“You’rejust—” a groan, as Zaara sat down beside him, “—jealousthat I got to spend—”another groan, this time accompanied by a pained laugh as she leaned backagainst the wall and closed her eyes, “—the entire afternoon with yourgirlfriend.”
“Consideringshe just kicked your ass? I’m not even a littlejealous.”
“Giveme some credit,”she defended weakly, one eye cracking back open. “And how can you say that? Youdon’t want the pleasure of having a Sith lord leaving you all bruised and sore?”
Theron raised an eyebrow, amused by Zaara’s theatrics. “I’m smartenough not to let her,” he shot back, turning back to lean on therailing. Below them, Rei had reappeared, dragging one of the training dummiesout into the center of the hangar; it was taller than she was and probably atleast as heavy, and after a few steps of awkwardly struggling, Rei gave thedummy a push with the Force and stomped off after it. She was still facing awayfrom them, but Theron could easily imagine the little scowl she no doubt wore, nose scrunched and brow furrowed.
“Besides,”he added, eyes still locked on Rei as she perused the collection of trainingweapons, hands planted firmly on her hips, “we get enough of bruised and sore without the extra sparring sessions.”
With as loud as the rain and thunder were,Theron almost missed Zaara’s low, quiet laughter. “Getting a bit personal there, aren’twe?”
Theron rolled his eyes, even though he wasstill facing away from her; Rei had no interest in sleeping with him or anyoneelse, and Zaara — whether because she was nosy or because she was friends withboth of them — knew that. “Very funny.”
“Ithought so. Have—” Her words were cut off by a particularly loud crack ofthunder, and when the hangar returned to relative quiet, Zaara repeated, “Haveany of the others shown up? There was a betting pool for who would last thelongest in a match against the commander, and I have credits on that Sithinstructor with the good hair. You know, the one who used to be an overseer?”
“JustRei, for now.” She was back in the center of the room, circling the trainingdummy and holding what looked like a simplified electrostaff. “And there’sreally a betting pool?” Theron asked with a shake of his head, glancing back atZaara before turning back to where Rei was rolling her shoulders, taking thestaff in both hands.
Zaara scoffed. “Of course there is. You know, as worried as everyone was about putting aSith in charge, she’sreally brought the whole Alliance together. Not... quite how we wanted,” sheadmitted, “but it’s a start.”
There was a loud, echoing thwack as Rei gave the training dummy anexperimental hit with the staff. She took a step back, and — evidentlysatisfied — dropped into a lower stance and began a series of complex steps andmaneuvers; her movements were practiced but far from graceful, and the attackswould’veseemed almost sloppy if not for the ease with which she performed them and thepower that she put behind each hit. It was different — almost startlingly so —than how she typically attacked with her light-saber, where each movement wascrisp and sharp and deliberate.
This was… desperate. It was little more than bruteforce.
“Neverwould’ve guessed anything but a lightsaber would be a Sith’s weapon of choice,”Theron commented, thinking out loud more than making conversation.
Zaara sat up straighter, glancing out intothe hangar bay. “Doesthat really look like something they teach at the academy?” she asked, voicedripping with sarcasm. “That’s from before. So is everything she knows aboutvibroblades — which is as entertaining as it is embarrassing to watch.”
“Before?”
She cocked her head to the side, hesitating. “Reihasn’t told you,” she guessed.
That was enough to fully redirect Theron’s attention. “Told mewhat?” He didn’t know much about Rei’s life before joining the Sith — and as hethought about it, he realized he knew nothing abouther life before the Sith. It hadn’t bothered him up to that point; afterall, Rei had been on the Dark Council when he’d met her, and any informationthe SIS had on her and anything she’d been willing to discuss had all involvedher being Sith. Logically, he knew there had been something before then, but he hadn’t put too much thought into it.
“Notmy place,” Zaara said with a shake of her head. “And I’d suggest waiting untilshe doesn’t have a weapon in hand before asking aboutit. It’snot exactly her favorite topic.” Before Theron could ask anything else, shepulled herself up and began making her way back down the crosswalk. “Reiyaxa, dear,” she called out, voice just loud enough to be heard over the storm, “Theron’sfeeling neglected. I’d remedy that, if I were you.” She turned to give him agrin and a wink before disappearing through the door to the rest of the base.
At any other point, Theron would’ve been grateful. Butconsidering whatever secrets Zaara didn’t want to spill, he couldn’t help butfeel a bit uneasy. “Don’t worry about me,” he assured Rei. “I’m more than happyto stay up here and enjoy the show.” She grinned up at him, and Theron was leftalone to mull the situation over in his mind as she continued with the trainingdummy.
There couldn’tbe anything in Rei’s past that was much worse than being Sith, and Theron wouldhave to take that little bit of comfort until he decided to breach the subject.

Devoted - Ch 32 - Lessons
Tumblr media
“Sigyn, darling? I think the babes are hungry!” She opened her eyes after a couple of hours of sleep, to find Loki sitting on the edge of the bed with an exasperated look on his face. The poor man looked like he had been through war after only two hours alone with the babies. She wanted to giggle at him, but he had tried so hard, that she kept it to herself. After unbuttoning her gown, she took Vali, and put him under one arm, offering her breast to him. He quickly latched on and began to suck hungrily.
She looked at Loki, and found his eyes trained on her breasts with his lips pressed into a tense line. They were already starting to swell with his children’s sustenance, and all he could think about was wanting to spend some private time with his wife. Unfortunately, he knew it would be a while before that happened again.
“Loki, will you put Nari underneath my other arm? I can feed him at the same time.”
He cleared his throat, after he realized he was staring at her. “Oh… Yes.”
He gently placed the baby on Sigyn’s lap underneath her arm, and as she cradled his head, Nari found his dinner.
“See? You are already warming up to motherhood.” He smiled lovingly at her.
        “I hope so.”
After both babies were satisfied, Sigyn laid beside them on the bed and cuddled them, taking her time to memorize each small detail of her babies faces. Vali, the larger twin, was chubby already, with fat rosy cheeks and perfect little pink lips that were parted as he slept peacefully. What hair he had was black as night, just like Loki’s. Nari, on the other hand, was smaller and had a more defined bone structure. He seemed much more delicate than his brother, and she hoped that as he aged he would catch up with Vali in size. His hair was sparse and blond, the color matching hers exactly. He slept with his head turned to the side, and his fist brought up to his chin. She giggled, because he looked like he was deep in thought… contemplating this amazing new world around him. She had seen her husband make that exact expression many times. The babies had a perfect mixture of both hers and Loki’s traits, and they were extraordinary.
Loki rose from the chair he was sitting in as he heard a knock on the door. Asta had brought their dinner tray, and was trying to be as quiet as she could. She sat the tray down, and tip-toed over to the bed, beaming brightly.
“May I sit, Your Majesty?” she whispered, motioning to the bed.
Sigyn nodded, and sat up slowly. She was beginning to feel the soreness of childbirth creep over her, and winced every time she had to move. Asta leaned over looking at each baby, as she began to tear up.
        “They are beyond beautiful, Princess.”
“You are very kind, Asta. I wanted to thank you for helping me get through the birth today. I know it was a tiring experience for everyone. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.”
“I would not have been anywhere else.” She replied, grabbing Sigyn’s hand. “I will retire for the evening and let you and the Prince have your privacy. Goodnight, Princess.” She turned toward Loki and bowed. “Goodnight, Prince. Congratulations on the birth of your sons.”
He looked to her and nodded. “Thank you.”
He fixed their dinner plates, and sat beside Sigyn on the bed, handing her a plate. She took the plate, barely looking up from the boys, and she didn’t even say thank you.
“She doesn’t care about you anymore… Liar.”
His head snapped up. “Did you hear that?”
Sigyn looked at him confused. “Hear what?”
        Loki shook his head. “Nothing.”
He recognized that voice… he hadn’t heard it since he woke up, yet here it was. It was back.
The more he thought about Sigyn ignoring him, and paying attention only to the babies, the more infuriated he became. In his heart, he knew that was ridiculous. She needed to be paying attention to them. In his head, however, laid a bomb ready to explode. He watched her… she would take a bite of food, and then smile and coo at the babies… never even looking at him. In his heart, he felt guilt… but in his head, the seed of hatred had been planted. He threw his plate on the floor, shattering it.
Sigyn jumped. “Loki! Are you okay?”
He smiled, but it wasn’t a pleasant smile, it was a smile filled with disdain and contempt. He leaned over to put his face mere breaths away from hers.
“So, now you want to pay attention to me?”
“Loki?” She placed her plate on the bed, and painfully scooted over closer to the twins, shielding them from her husband. “What is wrong with you? This isn’t like you!”
“Oh yes it is, my darling. It’s just like me, you just don’t know it yet.”
“Don’t you want to come back into the darkness with us? You belong here. She doesn’t deserve you… We do.”  The voice taunted him.
“Shut up!” He shouted, making the babies wake and begin to cry.
“Who are you yelling at, my love? You are scaring me!” Sigyn pleaded with him to sit back down, and calm himself, but he couldn’t.
Loki sighed. “I’m taking a walk, I will be back later.” He strode through the door, slamming it behind him.
Sigyn looked at the babies through the tears in her eyes, and tried to console them.
“Shhh… It is okay, my boys.” She laid down beside them bringing them both against her chest, and snuggling them until they calmed down. She laid there beside them for hours… only moving to nurse them, change their diapers and go to the restroom. It was finally bedtime, and Loki still had not returned. She threw on a clean nightgown, and dressed the babies for bed.
She was in a lot of pain after just giving birth hours earlier, each movement hurting more than the last, and she resented Loki for leaving her alone to care for their children. She grabbed a stack of cloth diapers and climbed into bed, pulling the covers up and the twins close to her and fell asleep until it was time for them to eat an hour later. Her night fell into a predictable routine. The twins would wake crying every two hours to eat, so she would nurse them, change their diapers and get them back to sleep… just to be awoken soon after that. Right before dawn, she woke and found Loki sleeping, facing her, in the bed. He had come home at some point in the last two hours, but hadn’t bothered to wake her.
Nari had woken and was rooting into her side, so she pulled him to her breast, hoping he would be sated before his brother decided to wake as well. Loki slowly opened his eyes to look at his wife. She laid there on her side nursing his son, and she was gently rubbing his tiny blond head, humming to him. He was silent, listening and watching… He didn’t understand how he could mistreat Sigyn, nor did he know what was wrong with him. He felt like he was two different people, using one body, and it didn’t take much to set him off anymore. He did not want to hurt his wife, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not control that part of himself. He felt like evil had taken up residence in part of his mind and he had no way of knowing when it would make it’s presence known.
Sigyn felt eyes on her, and raised hers from her son to her husband. His expression was much different now than it was earlier. No longer did he wear the hard, hateful expression… now it was loving, caring and warm. He looked at her with respect and appreciation… the sacrifices she had made for their little family already measured far more than he could ever dream of.
He gave her a tiny smile. “Hi.”
Her expression was vacant as shifted her eyes back down to her son. “Hi.”
He reached over to place his hand on Nari, who was still greedily eating.
“I owe you an apology, my love. I should not have left you to care for the boys all night alone… I don’t know what is wrong with me, Sigyn. I could not control my anger.”
“Your anger toward me is misdirected, Loki. I did nothing to wrong you.”
“I know that, Sigyn. If anything, I should be praising you… not acting like a petulant child. I am sorry. Can you forgive me?”
She thought silently for a moment.“Yes, I can. I am glad you came home.”
“I will take Nari and change his diaper, while you feed Vali.”
“Thank you.” She smiled, glad for the help.
Loki carried Nari into the nursery, and after a moment she saw him poke his head out of the door.
“Um, darling, I have no idea how to do this…”
Sigyn laughed as she carefully stood and took Vali into the nursery.
        “Time for a lesson, then…”
