Note
If you had to assign animals to the characters, what animals would they be?
Dawn would probably be a dove. Peaceful, very loving. I have doves in my garden that come for cuddles every day and of course they sing as a dawn chorus would :)
To keep on the theme of birds, Arthur would be an owl. The regular depiction of being wise and gentle are more than accurate with him, and he spends a lot of his nights up in thought.
Cerys would be a cat. Territorial but affectionate on her own terms, very motherly but works on her own time and boundaries, as she should.
As typical as it sounds, Kynes would be a dog. Something strong and intimidating with wiry fur and a strong bite that will kill for its own but also can be swayed to domesticity after enough trust and love.
Jax would be a dog in the other sense: loyal to no end, playful, cheeky when needed and an absolute rock through the other times. A lifelong companion, no doubt.

Star Trek Aliens Names Bank
Compiled for your convenience, a bank of canon names for the most common aliens of Star Trek.
These are compiled from Memory Alpha and Memory Beta. I tried to distinguish given and surnames as best I could, and generally did not include a name if it was too unclear. Same goes for names of individuals without a specified gender, since we don't know if or how names are gendered for these various cultures. This is also the reason why names are split by gender at all. Beta canon was occasionally used to distinguish given names v. surnames for Alpha canon names (such as Dukat being specified as a surname). For characters that were spies disguised as another species, if their alter ego had a distinct name, I gave each name to their respective species. If not (i.e. Seska), I did not include the name because its unclear to which culture the name derives from. There is a good amount of guesswork in here, and undoubtedly errors.
Species included are Andorians, Bajorans, Betazoids, Bolians, Caitians, Cardassians, Denobulans, Ferengi, Jem'Hadar, Klingons, Orions, Romulans, Tellarites, Trill, Vorta, and Vulcans.
This can be used for general reference at the sorts of names appropriate to each species, or for random generation based on phonemes, such as can be found in Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator, whose namesbase feature was the base concept used for this.
Several of these have very small sample sizes, and may produce janky results in phoneme generators. Male names are overrepresented for pretty much every species. Make of that what you will
Andorian
Andorians in Alpha Canon are generally referred to by only one name, but in Beta Canon have an expanded naming system (only names aligning with this system are included), with a given name, a surname prefix (ch' for chan, sh' for shen, th' for thaan, and zh' for zhen), and a surname, generally taken from the zhavey (zhen parent). They also tend to have nicknames, which are included on a separate line. Chan and thaan are often considered to more or less correspond to masculinity, and when dealing with binary species, tend to use he/him pronouns, with shen and zhen being the same towards femininity and generally using she/her pronouns.

Klingon
Klingons generally use a given name and a patrynomic (i.e. 'Son of Mogh'). Houses do sometimes change name based on whoever is currently heading it, but sometimes retain a name of a noted prior member.

Romulan
Romulans in Alpha canon seem to have a simple given name surname system, but are said to have three names: one for outsiders, one for family, and a true name. In Beta canon, Romulans have a given name, may or may not have an additional middle name, and have a surname. There are prefixes as well, with gendered prefixes (t' for female, tr' for male, and s' for groups (and presumably non-binary); omitted in familiar settings) for surnames and prefixes for middle names (i' when using the full name, ir' for formality lacking one or more names), as well as T' occasionally being added to any part of a female name.

Tellarite
In Alpha canon, we only have singular names for male Tellarites. Beta canon gives most Tellarites a given name and surname. There does appear to be some sort of naming system at place, with uncapitalized middle names, but I haven't read any books featuring Tellarites and don't know what it may be. If someone does know, please pass it on. These middle have been included with the surnames.

Vulcan
Vulcans have family names, but these are said to be unpronouncable by humans and generally never mentioned, hence not being shown here. In general, 'T' starting a name indicates its being feminine, and 'S' starting a name indicates its being masculine. Multiple characters of either gender have been shown with the 'opposite' starting letter, and Beta canon has mentioned a tradition of bestowing the name of a family matriarch upon a male child and a tradition of not naming newborns and instead naming them at some unspecified later date.

What were the ROs like as kids?
i love this question aww
Dawn was a quiet kid, they'd keep to themselves if they weren't with Mara. They we're sweet, though, they wanted to be a knight so that they could help people. They'd paint rocks and hide them around the palace for people to find. They weren't allowed to spend much time with any of the kids in the kingdom, so they were sheltered in a social sense, definitely.
Arthur was just so full of curiosity. He'd sit and ask his father question after question after question about anything and everything. He was a really caring kid, he always wanted to help out and make a difference. Always wanted to be a priest, but there was a small part of him that wanted to be an adventurer.
Kynes was a little feisty: they stood their ground even through childhood. They spent a lot of their childhood looking after their mum, but when they were out in the kingdom with other kids, they were more often than not beating the shit out of the bullies that would target the weaker kids.
Cerys was a little spoilt, to be honest lol. She was a true princess at heart, but was always an independent child, she wanted to do her own thing, her own way, without anyone telling her how to act or who to be. She'd always play the mum when playing house, but just so that she could delegate chores :)
Jax was a sneaky little shit. They've always been a troublemaker, ever since the day they left the womb. They were a restless kid, always wanting to go and do something, see something new, toy the line of what they could get away with. Jax was always a considerate kid, though, they were the type to hold meetings before a childhood game to make sure everyone would get included.

How do the ROs feel about the outer villages suffering under Queen Lyra rule?
Dawn, unfortunately, is relatively unaware of the happenings outside of the walls. Sure they’ve heard talk, but any ‘rumours’ they hear are usually dismissed as rumours by those in the palace around them. Upon finding out (and possibly visiting The Rocks themselves, if MC feels like letting them see their home), they’re devastated to know that their family hasn’t been caring for the people like they thought.
Arthur is troubled by it, he does as much as he can to try and help those outside of the kingdom, having been on both sides of the walls. He takes people in and let’s them stay in the church, but hasn’t gone so far as to join a revolting group— he’s a little too far gone to be fighting back, what with missing a leg.
Cerys has gone back to visit her late husbands village only once since his execution, and upon seeing the neglect it’s faced since the Kings death, she’s probably the most upset of all the ROs. Even though she does what she can to help those from the outer villages whenever they pass through the tavern, she feels like she could do more…
Kynes finds it hard to place their feelings on the matter. They’re devout to their position, and opposing Queen Lyra is not on their list of duties— but they do empathise, they grew up with very little and know struggle when they see it. If push came to shove, Kynes doesn’t know if they really could shift blame on the people for revolting against a Queen that doesn’t care for them.
Jax, being from The Rocks, obviously knows how it is. They hate the idea of a monarchy regardless of how well they treat the people, but Queen Lyra especially is on their shit-list. Now that MCs sister has died because of their need to branch out for money, Jax will be first to sign up for anything that puts power to the people.

She's portrait worthy, standing with a glass of wine in one hand and the most distant expression drawn across her face. You want to seek out her deepest thoughts, wash them clean... you wonder what has her lips turned downwards in such an extreme manner. She catches your gaze, and her mouth twitches into a soft smile, one a mother would gift, something soothing. There's an empty depth to her eyes, though, one she can't upturn out of existence—you want to swim in it.
Cerys Seline changed her name and left her home village at eighteen for a fresh start in Cape Lyra. With only enough money to afford a room for a few nights, Cerys stuck in and got a job at The Rabbit's Foot. A few years later and she's practically running the tavern herself when the owner offers to sell it to her. Cerys has other things on her mind, though... like falling in love and running away to star as a romantic tragedian in her own story. She doesn't see Cape Lyra again until years later, when during the summer of King Cedric's death, she's pulled from bed in the middle of the night to witness the public execution of her lover: the supposed assassin. Left with nothing but grief to her name and a hollow shell of a body that still needs to eat, Cerys returned to the only place that would give her work: The Rabbits Foot. Now she owns the place, and seems to be doing okay... as okay as she can be.
Despite her work-till-you-die outlook on life, Cerys is one of the most interesting people to sit down and have a conversation with. She's slow to open up, but fiery in her beliefs and opinions; she takes a stand even when others cower. Still, she's sweet-tongued and easy to get along with. Working in the tavern has made her bystander to every drunken conversation in the kingdom, and she's a good listener: she knows everything about everyone. Cerys feels safe, and takes pride in being Cape Lyra's most trusted confidant. Just don't run out on your debts at the bar, because she will put you on your ass.
Cerys is 5'4, rather petite, and has long black hair, though it's usually tied out of her face for practicality. She has olive toned skin and dark 'dead' eyes. She opts for practicality above all else when it comes to fashion, and more often opts for pants and boots over skirts and heels.

What do the ROs voices sound like?
I dont have voice claims, I'm not great at linking voices like that but if you want to use someone as a voice claim youre more than welcome to go ahead :)
Dawn is relatively soft spoken, though the volume of their words may be average, they speak in a gentle manner that keeps them from ever sounding too harsh.
Arthur has a definitive tone to his voice, like he's always sure of what he's talking about. He has a deep voice, too, with a little rasp from so many years of raising his voice to preach.
Cerys has a slight rasp to her voice too, but her words are very honeyed. She has a semi-melodic voice, one that you'd expect from someone a lot more outgoing than she is.
Kynes has a pretty monotonous voice, they speak directly and their words are often pretty sharp sounding. They actually have a relatively quiet voice for a guard, that's not to say they wont raise it when they have to.
Jax has an almost melodic voice, one that carries a certain charm to it. They tend to lay dramatic inflect on their words in such a way that sometimes they sound more like they're singing than speaking.

ROs hobbies?
Dawn can paint super fucking well. Mara often jokes that they were born with a paintbrush in hand, but the royal families portraits were all done by Dawn :)
Arthur likes to go on walks, he'd be a hiking buff if he had the energy and both his legs, lol.
Kynes loves to read. It's not often they get some time alone, and learning how to read can be a rarity so they put their literacy to use as often as they can.
Cerys likes to bake, anything she can share with customers or friends that come to visit and drink. She makes the best scones. The best.
Jax makes jewellery out of anything and everything. Their sets are usually bulky and made of sharp scraps but they always end up looking great.

Hi I'm already in love with this if! Question! What are the RO's relationships like with each other?
thank you! this is a guuuud one,
Dawn is fond of Kynes, and Kynes lets Dawn get away with a little more than they should.
Cerys despises Kynes. Kynes was the one to complete Cerys' partners execution, so theyre now banned from The Rabbits Foot and Cerys refuses to acknowledge they exist.
Dawn and Arthur have a history of sorts, they havent seen each other in years so there isn't bad blood but they aren't friends at all.
Cerys and Arthur are close, she often goes to his services and they spend time together when Cerys isnt working.
Kynes doesn't care much for Arthur, being ousted makes him an enemy of the kingdom and therefore someone to keep an eye on.
Dawn loves Cerys so much, Cerys loves Dawn in return; she really takes care of them.
Jax is as new to the ROs as MC is, their opinions form as the story unfolds
