John Beelushi

In honour of the late, great John Belushi, I made a small doll of him in the classic SNL Bee suit. The eyebrow is what really sets this doll apart from all other bee dolls. Springs can be used for the antennae to make them more similar to the source material, but yarn keeps him cuddly. 

Difficulty: Beginner

Yarn: Yellow, Black, Skin, Brown

Hook Size: 3.5mm

Crochet Stitches Used: chain, single crochet, slip stitch

Body/Head

Round 1: Using black yarn, ch 2, 6sc in second ch from hook. (6)

Round 2: 2sc in each st. (12)

Round 3: (2sc in first st, 1sc in next st) around. (18)

Round 4: (2sc in first st, 1sc in next 2 stitches) around. (24)

Round 5: In BLO, sc in each st around. (24)

Round 6-8: Sc in each st around. Switch to yellow at end. (24)

Round 9-10: Sc in each st around. Switch to black at end. (24)

Round 11-12: Sc in each st around. Switch to yellow at end. (24)

Round 13-14: Sc in each st around. Switch to black at end. (24)

Round 15-16: Sc in each st around. Switch to yellow at end. (24)

Fasten off. Sew hole shut with tail.

Using black yarn, sew one eyebrow flat across the top of the eye (approx. 1 row above) and sew the other pointing upwards in raised fashion.

Hair

Using brown yarn, cut several strands and use slip knots to create the hair.

Antennae

Round 1: Using yellow yarn, ch 2, 5sc in second ch from hook. (5)

Round 2: sl st, ch 20, cut yarn, leaving a long tail.

Unhook your hook and slide it through two stitch holes across either side of the project, rehook the last loop and pull the work through so that approx. five chains are visible on either side.

Round 3: 5sc in second ch from hook. (5)

Fasten off and sew in ends.

Saturday Night - Daemon AU

Okay so some of these were harder than others, especially Lorne. I’m VERY open to other ideas, in fact, please give me your thoughts because I’m indecisive and love hearing what others have to say :)

Lorne Michaels - Unsettled/Clouded Leopard(?)

unsettled because he’s lowkey this mysterious enigma that no one can seem to entirely figure out, like people on SNL were obsessed with trying to figure him out but many really couldn’t. I feel like he’d switch between animals like a Fox, River Otter, Cheetah, Red Wolf, Crow, maybe even a Goose that bites peoples ankles idk

if he does eventually settle, like if I were to write this (and I might) I think I might chose something like a clouded leopard but idk y’all

clouded leopard is giving “small but mighty” vibes like you don’t realize they’re that small until you see them in person and also they just look super young no matter how old they really are

I feel like Lorne’s daemon needs to balance him out a bit like they could be something a little less high energy/ act first think later and more calm and calculated, hence the clouded leopard

but they could share some other traits like being extremely clever and confident, having this “I know what I want and I want the best” sort of vibe

Lorne is not confrontational like he seriously avoids it at all costs and feels threatened when put into those types of situations (real Lorne gets genuinely angry), which totally fits Clouded Leopard since they’re typically elusive

Others Considered: River Otter (very close 2nd, aren’t typically characterized as ambitious), Snow Leopard, Cheetah, etc.

independent woman who doesn’t let herself be defined by a man

maybe a little bit manipulative but NOT maliciously, more so clever and very convincing

more confident than arrogant, but is very witty and doesn’t shy away from snide remarks

Chevy Chase - Swan

I’m not entirely sold on this one ngl so I’m accepting suggestions

arrogant and egotistical, truest definition of a pot stir-er, can be problematic, self centered

swans are loud af and also kinda aggressive which fits because Chevy is always running his mouth making rude comments and jokes about other people

John Belushi - Binturong aka Bearcat

binturongs are pretty aggressive animals tbh like do not mess with them

Gives another meaning to when Rosie tells John “with all that fur”

Dan Aykroyd - Belgian Malinois

was originally African Painted Dog but I think Belgian Malinois might fit better

kinda nervous and seems not super confident but is a network executive so he’s got to have some sort of backbone

very logical thinking and pretty smart I’d say, definitely prioritizes the facts which is definitely giving Beaver vibes

What if Lorne got hurt while trying to break up Chevy and John’s fight? Like what if there was a stray punch or maybe he’s shoved away and hits his head?

College or High School AU where Lorne is a theater kid who decides he wants to put together this show on campus that changes probably every couple of weeks. And I mean probably every couple of weeks because as a full time student it would be impossible to realistically do it all in a week. And he recruits people from all different cliques and such like Chevy was the football star and maybe John was a stoner band kid-type… you get where I’m going with this.

When Belushi's fiancée Judith had kicked him out of the house after a fight, he went to stay with Michaels, and ended up falling asleep with a cigarette lit.” — source.

Ok but now I’m just picturing members of the cast going to Lorne’s place whenever they need somewhere to stay. Like they just show up on his doorstep at the weirdest hours and he’s at the point where he doesn’t even bat an eye, he just lets them in.

Lorne coming back from a meeting with David Tebet, the NBC network executive with bruises on his wrist or on his throat where his shoulder meets his neck, and is shaken up but trying to hide it. And Chevy is immediately suspicious and confronts Lorne about how quiet and skittish he’s being. But then he gets up close and sees the bruises and just absolutely loses it, like he’s dead set on making David pay. Maybe in a weird sort of turn of events it’s Belushi, who prob already had to help hold him back from straight up storming into David’s office, that’s able to calm Chevy down and make him think rationally.

magic au where everyone has some sort of power or something, like nothing too crazy but some are obviously more powerful than others. And no one has any idea what Lorne’s power is, except maybe Rosie, and it drives them crazy not knowing. It’s what makes him so mysterious, like everyone’s got their own theories and guesses and bets on what it could be, but he they haven’t been able to figure it out. They try to get the answer out of Rosie but she refuses to spill literally anything because she ain’t a snitch (plus she enjoys watching the chaos).

Chevy has some options. I like the idea of him being able to change his voice to sound like other people he’s heard speak, basically impersonating them. Or maybe he has advanced healing which is why he’s great at prat falls. Or he prob has got something else I can’t think of at this time that’s wayyyy better than what I came up with.

Belushi might have some sort of fire power, which is convenient for when he’s lighting up and also could give a bit of flavor to the whole story about him nearly burning down Lorne’s apartment.

Maybe Dan is able to amplify his voice without need for a microphone. Like that one Harry Potter spell, sonorous or whatever it’s called. He can just change it at will to be louder than average.

If you wanted to as a Lorne/Chevy component, Jacqueline could have some sort of charming thing, like I’m thinking of charmspeak from Percy Jackson-type shit and Lorne could notice she’s using it on Chevy too make him stay with her (which is illegal).

Lorne could be some sort of empath, which is lowkey dangerous and kinda powerful because he can feel other people’s emotions. That could also be why he tries so hard to stay calm, because if he gets nervous or angry he might accidentally make everyone else feel his same emotions. But being an empath means it’s a lot of work to keep other peoples emotions from impacting his own emotions.

Lorne should have totally put on ice skates and joined John out on the ice like I mean he’s Canadian, right? Isn’t it basically law that you have to know how to skate if you grew up in Canada??
