Hi Error! I'm curious: is there any kind of ~proship content (a trope or kink or even specific phrasing or art style) that gets used a lot but that you aren't personally into, to the point where it ruins the stuff you do like? This is me with age gaps. So many wonderful kinks and fucked-up scenarios out there, but my libido just disappears if there's a huge age difference 😔. It's inconvenient! I'm just curious about others experiencing the same - do you try to read the stuff anyway? Do you do a lot of strategic filtering? Also, do you have any tips for gracefully saying "I am not into that, in fact it's a squick and I prefer not to talk about it, BUT I AM NOT MORALLY JUDGING YOU and I support your many ships that I cannot enjoy" to a new acquaintance? I swear this stuff was simpler 15 years ago.

PS: on consideration, my previous question - about proship stuff you dislike - might come across as being all TELL US YOUR TRIGGERS NOW, which is really not my intention. I'm just curious about how you deal with that kind of mismatch! Apologies if it came across weird; again, I think this fandom climate makes conversations super awkward.

There's actually quite a few "proship"/problematic things that squick me out badly enough that I avoid them even when the rest of the work is completely up my alley. Most of them are even listed out on this blog (my pinned post links to a list of "hard limits") but the biggest one I can think of is any form of ageplay; age regression, diapers, CGL, etc. I absolutely will not engage with it at all no matter what and I use a lot of filtering (and sometimes the mute and block buttons) to avoid it.

There's other things I don't like and that may even turn my stomach a bit, but that I'll try (or skip over lmao) when the rest of the fic/game/etc is appealing enough for me. It just really comes down to how prominent it is and how rare the other kinks/tropes are; if it's something hard to find that I really love, I can tolerate most things lmao. I'll deal with tentacles if it comes with some good whump and mommy kink is tolerable if I like the ship enough, y'know?

In my experience, "that's not my particular cup of tea but I'm glad everyone is having fun" is usually a good way to say that you're not into something without offending someone. Though sometimes I still get people complaining in my inbox about me saying I don't like stuff, so I guess there's no pleasing everybody. It IS super awkward though; it feels like everyone is on edge and expecting an attack, so any indication of not liking a kink/ship/etc is interpreted as hate no matter how nice or polite it is.

I've seen you write darker kinks, it's just in the past you have definitely inferred that there are acceptable kinks and non-acceptable kinks. You've said yourself that it's near predatory when a writer describes the Reader as small. Or that age regression is only ok when it's strictly sfw, because your type of age regression is acceptable. I don't like ageplay, quite squicked by it, and I'm not really a fan of aged-up characters either. But I don't call victims on here predators. Especially since those writers get real death threats on a weekly basis, some near daily basis. Have you seen the post "It's really fucked up when you treat characters like people and people like characters"? Because it describes your view of people who write about obviously grown up characters. I'm a human trafficking victim, and I personally find it wild that someone who wants to torture Hawks in a basement, calls other writers predators for having an idea of what married life with a fictional character 10-20 years after canon could be like. At the same time, I'm not going to start calling you a predator in danger of kidnapping someone or you having a red flag, you know? It's just nice over the past few months that you're not as angry at those who have kinks or fics that trigger you. You used to be so angry, that if someone had told me it was your IP that has been sending all the death threats to the aged-up authors, I wouldn't have been surprised.

This is blatantly untrue. I am supportive of ageplay/cgl. I was adamant that people do not sexualize MY age regression fic SPECIFICALLY because it would trigger me. I find it disgusting that you would attempt to twist my words in such a way, and I do not appreciate the backhanded language to make this ask make you look good or civil in your accusation.

I have never said it's predatory to describe reader as small? I said it's fatphobic? LMFAO? It's not inclusive to constantly talk about how fucking tiny the reader is. I also said not to describe reader as blushing red, am I also ableist against those with rosacea?

I do NOT want to torture Hawks in a basement. Are you fucking okay? I have ONLY talked about being on the receiving end of yandere because that is all I am interested in. I spent the first 13 years of my life locked in a fucking attic barely allowed to see the sun with the windows boarded by trash bags, I wasn't allowed to talk to other children for a decade because of being trapped inside, don't pull the "uhm actually it's problematic to write about trauma that isn't yours sweetie" card on me, it's not going to fucking work. Sorry it wasn't a basement specifically I was held in. Christ.

I just finished Dog of War like an hour ago after having started reading it just over a week ago and I just wanted to say how much I loved it!! Some friends recommended it really highly and it ended up being my first (but definitely not last) time reading an HDG fic.

I absolutely loved nearly all of it (the CG/L parts didn't do anything for me but I really appreciate that you made them skippable) and I honestly thought that the ending was perfect. The arc after Princess became a floret was incredible, finally being the payoff of everything that came before while still adding some amazing new things like everything that happened with Jess (who ended up being one of my favorite characters by the end).

Looks like I ended up rambling a bit, but my point is that it was absolutely amazing and I'm currently in the process of recommending it to all of my friends!!

!!! We're so glad you enjoyed it so much! We feel we were perhaps a bit over cautious with our warnings on cgl, but it's nice to hear it helped you read it more comfortably. We definitely feel more positively about the floret arc now than we did when we wrote the afterword. As we said in another reply here, we were under a lot of stress due to an eviction from the place we had lived for like 6 years that happened right when we started the arc, on top of the anxiety over potentially ruining dog of war by making it 'satisfying' over 'leaving you wanting for more'. A worry that's very hard to hold onto after everyone gushes at you how perfect it all was ^w^

Hey! I'm Lethe and welcome to my writing and delusions sideblog :3 My pronouns are she/he and I'm an adult. Here I'll post the stuff i write and also chitchat about my interests and delusional thoughts about them. MINORS DNF.

intro post! about me!!

hello!! i've been lurking on emeto blogs for a long time now but decided i finally want to start interacting slash storing stuff... idk.

i don't really engage in puking myself (on a weird line between emetophobic and emetophilic...) so i'll most likely have no irl content but i very much enjoy seeing it, and writing it!!

speaking of writing, i do occasionally write emeto stories to do with whatever fandom im in at the time. the only fandom i currently write for is tma (jonmartin specifically) but i haven't posted any of my work yet. that may change!! i read most fandoms of emeto. i also roleplay!! i won't roleplay from fandoms i'm not interested in but i do have original characters that i'll flesh out soon : my askbox and dms are always open!! feel free to ask to roleplay, or if anyone has any tma emeto fic requests... pls give. i might not get around to them but i need ideas.

hey! i’m loving Inconsolable! I just have one question: What made you make Squid diabetic? Is there any lines in the source text? (I haven’t read the book in years.) I don’t mean this negatively, I’m just very interested in how fic writers make these decisions and what leads them to it! (:

hi there! thanks for reading my fanfic! it came at a good time, i'm working on getting the next chapter up this week!

there isn't any source material in the books about squid being diabetic, that's to say in canon he is not diabetic, and that's partially why i made the choice to make him diabetic.

compared to the other characters, we know next to nothing about him except for him being x-ray's right hand man/being seen as the "tough guy in d-tent", being upset about something (most likely that he doesn't have a loving mom like stanley) to the point he cried one night, and having shit parents. at the end he asks stanley to tell his mom that he, alan, was sorry for something. this was changed to armpit in the movie and it bugged me because it stripped us of the smallest glimpse into squid's life pre cgl.

squid is basically a blank slate. he has a missing dad, an alcoholic mom, and, as per the movie and it's deleted scenes, kind of dumb but also seen as tough. that's all we get. the fact that stanley yelnats' guide to surviving camp green lake stated he was arrested for breaking into homes to steal loose change and soda cans made me think "that's a very small reason to be arrested and put to labor" (ignoring the breaking in part). though if he was stealing that i thought "if he's stealing soda cans it must be because he's selling them for money." and then i thought "if he's selling it for money, he most likely is poor." and then i thought "if he's that poor then it's either because of his mom spending all his money on booze (which may account for potentially not holding down a job?) or there's another factor that's making them be short on money." so then i wondered what could make someone constantly short on money? medication. what medication is expensive (especially now)? insulin.

i then dove into hundreds and hundreds of YT videos, blog posts, reddit posts, and medical journals talking about insulin and it's history, how it was handled in the 90s, the effects if it's not taken properly, personal stories about how they manage it, and i had one reviewer on FFN give me some extra details to fix any mistakes i made in my portrayal.

it just made sense to me and how i see squid in my head. he's angry a lot because he has next to no control over his life. that's all he wants, that's his goal, control and agency. to live his life his way. not to have society telling him where he's supposed to be and where he's supposed to stay because of his (lack) of money, because of his alcoholic mom, because of his missing dad, because of his bad grades, because of his (terrible) friends (excluding mickey.) the biggest blow was being chained to life-saving medicine that he (technically) can't control either. it has control over him. (plus, it shows extra audacity for cgl to sometimes purposefully withholding squid's insulin as a form of punishment. especially from pendanski.)

once he finally reaches a point where he realizes that he can control how he reacts to those things and the outcomes, he'll grow and be headed in the right direction. it's taking him some time but he's getting there.
