see listen I headcanon Mark as being a kinda tall dude so I imagine him seeing a "Cesar" who is taller than him (the real one is shorter) and goes "oh I want that to spoon me". so I'm so on board

i wanted to write one of my own prompts... little drabble under the cut if you're interested (very self indulgent. My Bad)

you and your f/o clearly have feelings for one another , but you're both too nervous and / or dense to tell the other . bonus points if this ends in tragedy involving feelings left unsaid !

Here they are again -- Cesar's room, late afternoon, dim orange light filtering through an open window. Smoke floats through the air from a pipe left burning, laid idly on the bedside table. All is quiet; a rare commodity to Mark, who's grown used to a more hectic home life.

"Mijo! Dinner's ready in 20!" calls out a voice from downstairs. Cesar perks up a bit, momentarily snapped out of a vegetative state.

"Aye, mamà! We'll be down in a second," he responds whilst using a hand to fan away the smoke in the room. He glances over in Mark's direction, a small smile playing at his lips; Mark returns the expression before breaking out into a fit of giggles. Cesar's heart swells in his chest at the sound -- God, he's so cute. I need to tell him.

He takes in a breath, catching his lip between his teeth. "Hey, marcador..."

"Dude, no. I told you to stop calling me marker," Mark interjects without a moment's pause, "like, it was funny the first twenty times, but you're pushing it." Despite his stern tone, his smile has grown wider, and he can't keep the laugh from his voice. He leans back against the frame of Cesar's bed, stretching his legs across the floor.

"Fine, fine," Cesar scoffs, his eyes rolling in an exaggerated manner. "Mark. Mark Heathcliff. My bestest friend in the whole wide world..."

"Yeah, yeah, I get it. What's up?" Mark tilts his head up to meet Cesar's gaze. The eye contact immediately makes Cesar's stomach erupt into butterflies, a pink tone rising to his cheeks. I can't. I can't tell him now. It's not the right time.

"...you know how much I care about you, right?" The sincerity in his tone catches Mark off guard; he's not usually this sappy, not unless comforting the boy after one of his parents' outbursts.

Mark raises an eyebrow. "Yeah... of course, man." He blinks a few times. Cesar's hand moves to rest on his shoulder, which, in turn, causes Mark's face to near instantly turn a bright red.

If Cesar were more in tune with his own emotions -- if he were perceptive to others' emotions, even, he might be able to deduce that his feelings for his friend are reciprocated. Wholly and completely. There's an awkward silence for a moment or two; Cesar's fingers dig lightly into the fabric of Mark's hoodie, as if physically holding himself back from doing something he might regret.

His expression shifts. "Right, yeah... good. Just wanted you to know." Then, he releases his grip to pat him twice. "C'mon. Ma probably wants us to help set the table."

Mark's brows furrow. He's desperate to know what Cesar was actually trying to say. There's a weird tension in the air as he pushes himself up to his feet with a groan.

"'Kay. Sure." He was hoping to sober up a bit before confronting Cesar's mother, and silently thanks God that she doesn't care as much as his own parents do. The older teen's hand comes to rest on the small of his friend's back to urge him out the bedroom door.

"We'll be friends forever, won't we, Mark?"

The question hangs in the air for a second.

"...yeah. Best friends."

A sneak peek of what I'm working on... (edited)

This is a rather long comic for me, in fact, it's the longest comic I've ever done. It's about my DoubleAlt!AU with the ship Markces!

Angst and fluff involved, I would say it's rather toxic, SFW if you don't count some blood stains.

(summary-slash-spoiler): Mark broke into Cesar's house to find two identical versions of his best friend, one killed by the other. He did not know if the man he saved was really the right one, and dared not to question. Worse, Mark himself did not survive from the alternate assault whole.

I personally hc both Cesar and Mark to be gay, and Cesar is like a openly gay guy (and has been for years, out to pretty much everyone including his mom. Because of this, he’s controversial at school, since he’s pretty much a “model citizen” of Mandela County otherwise.) but Mark is too oblivious to realize he’s… ya know… 💅🏻 so he keeps being friends until Cesar has to literally spell it out for him he’s gay.

Mark meanwhile is a baby gay who is dealing with a LOT of internalized homophobia and has no idea how to properly handle his attraction to men/Cesar. Not to mention the fact he grew up extremely religious, and his parents are likely homophobic (maybe his sister is also somewhat homophobic— not as bad as their parents, but I’d imagine she’d have a few prejudices/stereotypes, even if she isn’t straight up against gay ppl lol)
