Cracky Ainur Theory

So like – right after the first music, when all the Ainur were newly awakened to sentience, I’d like to posit that the vibe was WAY more high school/college drama than they’d like people to think. 

Seriously, think about it. The Valar’s specialization/seniority/powers made them pretty much like teachers charged with providing an example for the students Maiar, making sure they kept on task with creating the universe and educating/disciplining them. 

I think it’s fair to say that since the Maiar were younger and more numerous (probs also dumber tbh) they’d be inclined to form cliques, jockey for social standing, and gossip like little motherfuckers. But this is like the first week of school the beginning of the universe and only one salacious thing has happened EVER so of COURSE every Maiar in space/time has thoughts/feelings on the time Melkor, the Principle’s brother Manwe’s brother, who was HIRED to teach physics/chemistry/gym(???) supposed to be the best and brightest grew weed in the green house and crashed the open ceremonies with his death metal band.

You CANNOT have that kind of legend at a school amongst the Ainur without SOME EDGY KIDS deciding he’s a total badass (even if they def still have plans to go to college and not become anything like him). And what major group is more edgy than the frat house Maiar of Aule, whose canon track record with evil is NOT GREAT, and willingly chose to follow the Valar most famous for going behind the school and creating MOTHERFUCKING LIFE behind the SUPER INTENDANT’S BACK. 

And lo, amongst these baby rebells that fancy themselves a ‘gang’ in the same way Danny Zuko’s buddies do in ‘Grease’, is Mairon. MAIRON: a Maiar whose NERDINESS is only matched by his SOCIAL AWKWARDNESS and INABILITY TO READ A ROOM (go, read the Lay of Lethian, I’ll wait). Mairon is totally that smart/talented/ambitious kid who gets along better with teachers than peers but also has a tendency to ask super distubing questions above his (and probably anyone else’s) maturity level, while taking enforcing the rules way too seriously (one of the reasons he and Eonwe get on as well as they do at first is DEF because Manwe’s Maiar are totally the hall monitors of this metaphor Mairon likes making sure rule are enforced). 

Thus, the frikken stage was set for our Twilight-ishly tropey Meet Cute, and I make the point that Angbang WAS ITS OWN HIGHSCHOOL AU ALL ALONG.
