Sleeping...... It isn't going to well!
I know sleeping is the backbone to a healthy life. I struggle to get better sleep! Recently got a new mattress and bed frame. I've tried over the counter sleep aid
aids, like Zquill. Doesn't help. Usually getting to sleep isn't problem. Staying a sleep is and always has been. I'm a light sleeper I'd say. I usually wake up a few times a night. When I'm really stressed I have a hard time getting back to sleep. I try to get 6 or more hours sleep a night. They recommend 7 to 8. It doesn't help I have sleep apnea and wear a mask while I sleep. If the mask or straps, to hold the mask in p!ace, slip or whatever whole I sleep, I'll wake and have to adjust the mask or straps. That is annoying! On top of all this, I'm still going through menopause! Most nights I have night sweats! I'll wake up sweaty and hot! I get so frustrated! Hopefully at my next doctor appointment I can get hormonal replacement! With help with sleeping I found some Centr Fit videos on YouTube. Centr Fit is Chris Hemsworth's fitness, health and wellness app. I have to go to sleep to a video if sleep meditation narrated by Chris Hemsworth! He has such a calming and smooth sounding voice! It does help me Falk a slew but not stay a sleep! I dud another sleep video on how to get back to sleep. Haven't v tried it yet. This is my next big thing to work! On the Centr Fit app is also medition videoes to help release stress, etc. They help and most are narrated by Chris Hemsworth! I just want to live a fuller healthier life! Hopefully I can!

itā€™s like the artful dodger (2023) was MADE for tumblr. thomas brodie-sangster and flowy bloody sleeves. delightfully gory victorian surgery. period romance that is way hotter than it should be. period costuming that is FOR ONCE not referred to as ā€˜stiflingā€™ or ā€˜tortureā€™ by the spunky lady lead (this oneā€™s for the historical dress community). anti-authoritarian. crime shenaniganry. young upstart tempted to their old ways. banger guy-ritchie-sherlock-holmes -2009-esque soundtrack. lovely lighting direction. what more could you possibly want.

"Remember to check with a teacher or one of the gardeners before eating what you pick from the gardens." calls out teacher Max.
The youngling centre was on a field trip visiting the ships indoor public garden that grows both flowers and vegetables from a variety of different planets. Younglings took joy in sharing and showing their friends vegetables and plants from their own respective planet. Even the teachers, Max and Kim, were happy to tell them about earth's plants.
"Wow, what's that Emira?"
"It's a glass flower!" she chirps holding up a beautiful flower with the petals and stem translucent. "They're my favorite flower!"
"So pretty! Can you...eat it!" the human grins.
"No!" the avian giggles. "You can't eat it! But my Maemae says you can use the roots for tea that helps tummy aches."
"I'll have to remember that." he nods, wearing an utmost serious and thoughtful face. The nearby gardeners chuckle.
"You should!"
"I shall-!"
"TEACHER MAAAX!!"
All heads whip to the south of the garden. At the very end of it is Ezshi screaming and waving their little tail and arms frantically. Beside them is Pollix, Zyz, and Tarlak huddling around a Kim kneeling on the ground grabbing her throat.
"Mr Max you stay h-" the gardeners watched as the human sprinted as fast he could to the other side of the gardens. Seconds later the younglings followed suit with Emira leading them, flapping her little wings as fast as she can.
"KIM! KIM WHAT'S WRONG?!" he skids to a stop beside her grabbing her shoulders to examine her.
The human shakes her head, face red, opens her mouth to speak only to go into a coughing fit. Her right hand at her throat, her left pounding her chest.
"What happened?? Did you eat something?? Kids what did she eat?!" later he'll apologize for shouting but right now he can't help it. Right now he's going through every lesson he's had about what to do when one eats something harmful/unknown to their species.
"I-I don't know! Tarlak gave it to her!" Zyz cries, tears streaming down their little snout.
"Tarlak, buddy, what did you give her??" the little Simia's lips quiver as he stares at the still hacking Kim.
"Tarlak, focus. What did you give her? What planet plot was it from?" Max grabs his shoulders, making him look solely at him and not Kim.
"...earth...it-it was from earth. This." he hands over a half eaten white plant bulb.
"...Kim's fine kids." he sighs flopping over onto the dirt. The adrenaline immediately leaving his body.
"What! What is it?!" they all cry.
"It's garlic."
For a moment there is silence save for some sighs of relief from the human children. And then.
"GET THE RED BAG!"
"CALL THE GARDENERS!"
"SHE'S GONNA DIEEE!"
All the younglings scream and wail. Most like Emira, however, simply cling to the human silently crying.
"...what?! Kids! She's not dying."
" 'm not...dying." Kim rasps, finally done coughing.
"Garlic is poison! It's how my Maemae's uncle died!" Emira wails.
"I heard one garlic clove can kill a hundred rextalians!" Ezshi frets.
"What are you talking abo...oooh. Thiosulfate."
"Thio-whatnow?" Kim coughs, spitting out a piece of garlic she frees from her cheek.
"Reason why most animals can't eat garlic and onions. Including most other non-earth species."
"...Oooh! Okay learning time! Listen up kids. Humans can eat garlic! Got it? Humans can eat garlic and other foods like garlic, our body breaks it down and stuff."
"But you choked and your face turned red!"
"Because the taste is very strong. It's like lemons. Basically I took a giant bite out of a lemon."
"...Ooooh!" cries out the younglings now understanding that their teacher is not dying.
"Wait why did you take a giant bite out of garlic?" laughs Max.
"I didn't know if was garlic or an onion and Tarlak's dad uses onions for to make a bug repellent...don't judge me I've never seen garlic in that shape before!"
"Why didn't you ask a gardener?"
"They're all the way on the other side of the field! Just-shush!"
"I'm never letting you live this down. Now help me stop the human kids from doing some kind of garlic challenge. I see Anthony and Piper eyeing them."

In that vein (hah), I just have to take a moment to gush about the costuming in The Lost Boys because. Have you seen the costuming in The Lost Boys. Like each costume standing on its own without anyone in it still gives you a sense of a whole character, which is important because some of these characters don't get, uh, lines. We have to be able to distinguish them immediately by visuals, and the thing is, we can, because they're not just dressed to look attractive, they're dressed with the purpose of establishing character.
Like, consider Michael. They kept it very simple for him, on purpose, he's a regular everyman kind of guy thrown into a Situation. But also, he's trying too hard. The white t-shirt, jeans, and leather jacket call back to James Dean, Rebel Without A Cause, but the leather jacket's brand new without a scuff or a crack, not broken in, and it sits uncomfortably on his shoulders. The earring doesn't suit him - it belongs to somebody else, a funhouse mirror version of himself that he's tempted by, but also it literally belongs to somebody else. Who gave him that earring? Star's implied to have done the piercing, for him, which also tracks - the earring's a little piece of someone else, someone darker and wilder, that's been dug right down into his flesh by his association with Star. It's tasted his blood.
It's also a little piece of the boys' uniting aesthetic bleeding over onto him. There's a magpie sensibility to all of them, but then each of them are visually distinct as themselves within it.
Star's clothes have 80s cuts but form a 60s hippie silhouette, solidified in time. She's the most colourful of them all, her white tops signifying a flash of innocence, but at the same time as she climbs on David's bike, she pulls on a big black jacket that almost envelops her, a little piece of his shadow falling over her and devouring her light. Again, it doesn't quite fit her, like she's playing dressup as a darker, wilder self just like Michael is.
And speaking of David. That boy is chin to toe wrapped up in black. The coat references batwings, which is a great detail. And those gloves! He doesn't touch Star; he doesn't touch Michael; he doesn't touch the world, except through a layer of darkness. It's real Old West, white-hat-black-hat level symbolism. Except.
The real villain of the piece isn't the dangerous, sharp-edged boy in black - although of course you need to look out for him, they don't call him 'dangerous' for no reason. The real villain of the piece is the most perfectly conventional, middle-class, unassuming, don't-look-twice take-him-home-to-mother normal guy imaginable. Grey and beige. Business casual.
It's the perfect camouflage for a predator.
(And then also like. I can't wax as poetic about it right now because my brain cells are otherwise occupied. But please consider how much character is there in, like, the Frogs' army-surplus duds and Sam's terrible, incredible shirts.)

One day Iā€™m going to finish that essay or whatever it was in my drafts thatā€™s about the themes of womanhood/relationships/thirtysomething stuff and TTPD but since part of this discussion has been revived on the dash but also itā€™s Saturday so this wonā€™t ruffle as many feathers, I think one thing that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle in the conversation about the muses and stories in the lyrics is just why the recurring theme of the broken dreams pops up all over the album, and why they permeate the discussion of both muses, if not *all* the muses in the album.
Not to project things on Taylor, but it feels pretty clear to me* that the dreams sheā€™s talking about specifically are about having a family, and that is the through line in the album, and why the successive blows devastated her. (*I donā€™t want to presume that anyone else feels this way and this is just my interpretation etc.)
The suburban gothic allegory in Fortnight depicting a miserable, lonely marriage. The ring on the ring finger in TTPD making her explode with joy because it was a shorthand for lifelong commitment. ā€œHe saw forever so he smashed it upā€ in My Boy. ā€œIā€™m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for freeā€ and dying on the sacrificial altar in So Long London. Marrying her wild boy in But Daddy. ā€œGet the matches, toss the ashes off the ledgeā€ in Fresh Out the Slammer (as in, she burned her life down). ā€œYou shit-talked me under the table talking rings and talking cradlesā€ in loml. ā€œThe deflation of our dreaming leaving me bereft and reelingā€ in How Did It End. ā€œPromises ocean deep and never to keepā€ in Peter. The allusion in The Manuscript that the man in question made her think he was in it for the potential of a serious commitment only for her to feel used when he moved on. And there are probably more examples Iā€™m not thinking of off the top of my head here.
But what Iā€™m trying to get at delicately is that from what sheā€™s put down in TTPD, as well as what sheā€™s put down in previous albums (ā€œgive you my wild, give you my child,ā€ Paper Rings, Lover, renegade, YLM, etc.) building a life and a family with this person (Joe) was not only something she wanted, but seemingly deliberately planning and working towards. So in the death throes of the relationship, her grief was not just about things like losing someone she once loved, the breakdown of this relationship that was once comforting to her, what she gave up to make their life work, etc. but about this important thing she had dreamed of and what she seemed to feel was on the horizon. What I think Iā€™m trying to say is that it had likely shifted at some point (even just based on the album pipeline) from a hypothetical ā€œone day weā€™ll have ten kids and teach them how to dreamā€ thing you wonder about with a partner to something that felt a lot moreā€¦ tangible. (Again trying to be sensitive in my word choice/not project or assume things etc.)
I donā€™t want to make any accusations or assumptions on main, but I think those kind of life plans feeling within reach not only makes it understandable as to why someone would stay in a relationship whose cracks were turning into fault lines, but on the flip side why giving up on something that felt like it was on their doorstep would be so wholly devastating.
But itā€™s also why what happened in the two successive relationships *was* so devastating in the songs on the album, and why the Matty thing specifically was so twisted. Heā€™d reentered her life and heā€™d insinuated himself back into her circle and gained her confidence which in turn led her to confide things in him (the ā€œhostile takeoversā€ of it all, the whole bridge of The Smallest Man with its honey pot spy mission imagery in which like a mark he sweet talked her into sharing her most vulnerable, compromising ā€œsecretsā€ only to then turn it around to use her and ghost her like a trained operative). And given the way the family thing appears in both presumed storylines, itā€™s again because Muse #2 used the info gleaned about the life with Muse #1 to sell her a con about an alternate path to what she was mourning so deeply. (And why itā€™s such an unconscionable act because itā€™s manipulation, at least going by her own words about her experience of it. Itā€™s as cavalier as the organ donor line in The Manuscript, with the same effect.)
The shittalking about rings and cradles is both of them (if not all of them) because in all cases, they ended up raising her hopes only to not plan on following through. One because he maybe couldnā€™t commit, one because maybe he was never serious about it. (And the one who did it first who was both šŸ„“.)
If I had to guess (because I am not Taylor so I will obviously never know any of this for sure besides picking up context clues), the dream was like a carrot dangling in her mind, feeling like this is what the ā€œagonyā€ to quote another one of her songs was for ā€” like, things may be hard, but life is hard, and at least they were building towards *something* she felt they both wanted. And as that dream slipped through her fingers, it created a cascading series of events that crippled her emotionally for a time. So when she mourns that life in her songs, itā€™s almost like itā€™s the same dream, just in shifting contexts. The conman selling her dream back to her is comforting at first, but hits doubly hard and leaves her broke when it disappears.
The story throughout the muses on the album isnā€™t ā€œshe jumps to the person who promises her these things,ā€ itā€™s that itā€™s a whole life sheā€™s built that crumbles under the weight of reality knocking at the door and a foundation that shifts until it disintegrates. And losing that foundation and the dreams built upon it leaves her searching for answers in the wreckage ā€” and looking elsewhere for clarity for a time. And itā€™s why itā€™s so hard to remove one muse from the other (or again, all of them), because that central driving force is used by each of them in different ways to build her up and take her down. And why working through the pain of one situation bleeds into that of another.
Itā€™s hard to delve into this more without crossing boundaries or whatever, but itā€™s just such a palpable open wound in the album, but also why working through the pain in different contexts on TTPD brings to light all these different kinds of hurt but also the emotions that go along with them.
Anyway. That other essay will write itself at some point idk.

I'm back with more demigod dead boy detectives (parts one and two for those interested)! In short, Edwin is a son of Athena (born at the turn of the 20th century) who spent seventy years in the fields of punishment by accident - after he escaped it was 1989 and most of the gods had moved to America of all places.
And despite all that, St Hilarion was still functioning as a demigod heaven. Edwin is not happy. At all.
Charles on the other hand is having an interesting time all around. The backstory for him that I came up with starts from before he was born. The OG pjo au that I read had his father be Ares and yes?! I adore the Frank Zang of him?
But his mom and Ares didn't click in my mind until I realized that Ares is in an on-and-off relationship with Aphrodite - who is cutting and sharp and tough but also soft and ditsy and a bit shallow. His past lovers don't all need to be veterans or kickboxers. It was an eureka moment, to be honest.
Charles' mom (name still in the works) met Ares in a museum showcasing ancient pottery and jewelry - some of them Greek - most of which depicted old heroic tales or bore the scars of the years. They started talking completely by chance - Aphrodite had stood Ares up and he didn't feel like going back to what he was doing. He decided to check this collection out - to reminisce or to try and remember fallen friends. Or just to sulk. Either way, he was there.
Charles's future mom sees him and the conflicting aesthetic of his clothing and the display he was looking at makes her want to talk with him. They hit it off. He asks to see her again and the rest is history.
They are together for four months before she gets pregnant. As expected from a god, Ares disappears from her life with only a few words. Charles's mom is left alone with a baby, in a shitty apartment with no family in the country.
It sucks. Like a lot.
Then she meets Paul Richard Rowland.
(I'm sorry but I can't do Paul's name dirty in a pjo au, I just can't. Although the irony was amusing enough to make me consider it for a whole second.)
They hit it off even with the occasionally crying baby in the next room. Soon they are engaged to be married - and married soon afterward. Charles's last name is changed and would you look at that - a happy family.
Not.
Charles is a charming and athletic boy with a love for ska and a bit of a temper. His dad is a cunt and his mom is quiet. That's fine until it isn't.
In an argument, it gets out that Richard isn't Charles's actual father (he is 14 when that happens). Stuff gets progressively worse after that (both with Richard and with the monsters - Richard's whole "something is wrong with you" really drives in the "I am different" mindset you really don't want in an untrained demigod) until Charles' mom gets desperate and contacts the boarding school - Ares had assured her that it would always have a spot for Charles.
(The phone number is that of the school board of all the still functioning demigod establishments. Had Charles been a girl they would have referred the mom to one of the all-girls or mixed schools. It's a system run by descendants, wind spirits and satyrs.)
((It's not as efficient as say sending satyrs to schools, but they only have so many satyrs. They do the guardian routine! Honest!))
Fast forward and Charles has been to St Hil for almost a year and a half. He is a semi-full-year camper in the sense he went home once for one summer and then only for two to three days a year.
He gets along with his siblings and the cricket team. He is friendly and nice but 80s racism and classist bullshit exist - he can't be too vocal with his thoughts and opinions less he is ostracized by his peers, he has to play a role he only has half the script of. The demigod thing isn't always a blessing.
He is a deft hand with daggers and knives, he is skilled with a sword - but he would prefer to play cricket or go to concerts. No magical barrier means nightly patrols and the occasional monster attack.
Cue the death scene. It plays like canon but with weapons. He is chased into the freezing lake by his siblings and his former mates. (And Charles had been so excited about having siblings - but this - they - he couldn't call brothers.)
There aren't any naiads during the winter - or they are sleeping deep into it. No one intervenes. He manages to escape his pursuers by going deeper into the woods until he comes across an old shed.
Charles goes in.
(He didn't hear the sharp snap of twigs and branches in the other direction of the one he was going. He didn't notice the second pair of footsteps shadowing his own.)
((He does see the lantern.))
And they finally meet. Isn't it grand? (TBC)

VQT!
Dev Patel mentioned in his reddit AMA that some of the hijra in Monkey Man were not actors and were from the hijra community. I just remembered your tag and thought you might like to know!
AH THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW!
I was trying to find anything in interviews and coming up short. It does make it have some grounding in real world collaboration with people, rather than "just" coming from the outside and making statements -- obviously can't say for 100%, but it feels like it was supportive and respectful in the narrative, and hopefully behind the camera too
