The Bearer of Good News

Summary: Dean has some good news to share with Ellie. How will they celebrate?

A/N: I always loved Ellie from the episode "Trial and Error" and I've always felt bad that she never got her night with Dean. (She didn't have a last name in the show, so I gave the character the last name of Garcia, which is the actress' last name.)

I also felt bad that, because the boys didn't close the gates of hell, her soul was still earmarked for hell when she died. So, I've had this head cannon for a while that once Crowley was more on the boys side, Dean convinced him to release Ellie's soul. Then of course, he has to go let her know the good news. 😉

A/N 2: This fic is written for @there-must-be-a-lock's Fics Against Humanity 4K Challenge. It's ridiculously late, but here it is. Sorry it took SO long! 😩 The two cards I picked were "Dirty Talk" and "My love language is _____" The section using these prompts is in bold.

"I'm not asking, Crowley."

Dean Winchester stared down at the shorter man in front of him, his gaze unwavering and his position unmoving.

"You were a dick when you took that girl's soul, without even giving her a timeline, or telling her that an invisible mutt would be along to rip it out of her."

Dean took a step closer to the King of Hell and used his height advantage to tower intimidatingly over him.

"Now, we've vanquished the darkness and Sammy is safe and sound and getting reacquainted with our mom, so I would like to take a trip and give a remarkably cute and sexy woman some very good news and see if she's willing to...celebrate with me."

Dean poked Crowley in the chest. "So you are going to rip up her contract and give her back her soul."

Crowley shrugged, not wanting to give in too quickly. He knew he was going to, but it wouldn't do to show that this particular Winchester had pushed his way into what used to be his heart. Crowley still remembered their summer together with fondness, even though Dean would never talk about it and, Crowley suspected, was actively ashamed of big parts of it.

But he remembered the way they'd howled at the moon and all the fun they'd had with Leda, Heidi, and Celia - the amazingly flexible Fisher triplets. It had been a great time, and though he'd tried hard to dislodge Dean Winchester out of his good graces, the Squirrel remained.

Finally though, Crowley rolled his eyes. "Fine. Don't get yourself so ruffled. If you must know," he grabbed Dean's finger and removed it from the center of his chest, "I'm not very proud about that particular acquisition. I was trying to position myself back then and was willing to take any soul I could get my hands on to shore up my numbers and secure my position as King of the Crossroads. So that I could eventually become the lovable, roguish monarch you see before you today."

Crowley stepped away from Dean and moved a little way down the alley they were meeting in. Dean followed closely, but Crowley just leaned up against the brick building beside them.

"I knew the girl was on the cusp of saying no and walking away, so I simply neglected to give her one or two of the more pertinent details. Not my most honest transaction, admittedly. And as you know, I consider myself to be an honorable demon."

Dean rolled his eyes at this description, as Crowley had known he would. One of his favorite past times was to see how annoyed he could make the Winchesters, when he got a full body eye roll out of one of them, his mission was complete.

Finally, Crowley sighed; he had to get back to his increasingly odious duties as King. So, he snapped his fingers and heard the distant tearing of a contract, like an echo in the back of his head.

"There, now the girl is free. Her soul is once again hers to do with as she pleases. Have fun helping her besmirch it this weekend."

He was thrilled at Dean's look of annoyance that came with two little dimples of displeasure that never failed to make Crowley smile. So his grin was wide as he zapped himself away.

Dean pulled up outside the little cabin, watching the smoke curl lazily out of the chimney and applauding Ellie's ingenuity and ability to hide herself. It had taken Sam hours on the computer and a bit of input from Cas to find her.

He hoped she'd be happy to see him.

Failing Ellie had been one of his only true regrets about not closing the gates of hell. Obviously he felt guilty for all the other souls he might be damning and for all the demons he was allowing to wander the earth, by keeping hell open and operating. But he hadn't been willing to let Sammy push off the mortal coil just to slam it shut.

But when the dust had settled around that decision, he'd remembered Ellie. He remembered promising her that she wouldn't go to hell - remembered that with the gates still open, that was her fate whenever she died.

For the last three years he'd lived with the knowledge that he'd failed her, the thoughts floating around in the back of his mind, just one more dull ache of guilt to haunt him.

But then, after Crowley had helped them fight the darkness, Dean had wondered whether the King had softened enough that he might be able to convince him to let her soul go.

It had been easier than he'd thought it would be, and Dean told himself to remember that the next time Crowley pissed him off seemingly beyond endurance, and maybe cut the demon just a modicum of slack.

Dean climbed out from behind the wheel and slammed Baby's heavy door with a bang. As he took the three small porch steps in one stride, the door opened and Ellie was there, beaming out from behind it.

"Hey Cowboy! Long time no see."

Dean grinned, secretly loving the nickname. "Hey Ellie."

She opened the porch door to him and he stepped past her into the bright, warm cabin.

"How are you?" He asked as she closed the heavy wooden door and leaned back against it.

She shrugged. "Good. Staying off the radar, I hope." Her smooth brow wrinkled and a twinge of worry entered her voice, darkening her soft, lyrical accent. "How did you find me?"

"An angel helped. Don't worry, you were well hidden." Dean frowned then. "But I gotta say, you let me in way too easily, Ellie. You should have made me drink some holy water or something before you let me through the door."

Ellie kicked back the colorful, woven rug that sat just inside the door to reveal a devil's trap beneath. "And the porch gets covered every couple of months with a mixture of varnish and salt. I've learned a couple tricks."

Dean grinned. "Impressive."

Ellie nodded a thank you. "Can't be too careful. I've spent the last three years sure that one of Crowley's minions was going to show up and drag me to hell."

"About that." Dean said and smiled brightly. "Your contract has been torn up."

Ellie's dark eyes widened and wary hope bloomed there. "What? How is that possible?"

Dean shook his head. "It's a long story, and I'm happy to tell you, but first, you got a beer?"

A couple hours later they sat together in front of the fire, feet up on the big wooden coffee table, a handful of beer bottles scattered across it.

Ellie shook her head. "I just can't wrap my head around the idea that I'm free. That no one will be coming after me, I can go back out into the world."

Dean stretched his arms out across the back of the couch, his fingertips nearly reaching each end. He let out a contented sigh. "Do you really want to though? You've got a pretty sweet set up here if you ask me."

Ellie laughed lightly. "Well, I might not abandon my solitude completely, but I would like to let a person or two back into my life."

She turned her head toward him and her lips were suddenly tantalizingly close. The familiar look of heat in her gaze made Dean swallow hard.

This time there was nothing stopping him from taking her up on any offer she might make, no hellhound stalking nearby, no death sentence hanging over her head, and no immediate, world-ending catastrophe to pull his attention away.

There was only them, only the warmth of the fire and the softness of her skin.

He decided that, since last time she'd done all the pursuing and he'd done nothing but reject her, it was up to him to make the first move this time.

But before he could even try, Ellie was shifting on the couch and throwing her leg over both of his so that she was straddling him, one knee on either side of his thighs.

She put her hands on the sides of his neck and leaned forward, her full lips just a hair's breadth away from his.

"What do you say, Cowboy? Should we try this seduction thing again? You were a little preoccupied last time." She rocked her hips against him and he felt himself harden beneath her.

She felt it too and grinned. She brushed her lips featherlight against his. "But I think I have your attention now."

Ellie was a little afraid that at some point she was going to wake up; this moment was just a bit too reminiscent of countless dreams she'd had over the last few years. Dreams where she was free, where she didn't have to run and hide anymore, and so many dreams where Dean Winchester was exactly as he was now - hot and hard beneath her, his mossy green eyes heavy-lidded with passion, and his mouth, slightly open, just waiting to give her pleasure.

He was the most beautiful man she'd ever known and the memory of him was a frequent source of warmth on very cold, lonely nights. But now he wasn't a memory, he was real.

His hands were really on her hips, his blunt, hard fingers pressing into her flesh through her jeans. His broad chest was really right in front of her and she could really push his khaki green t-shirt up over his flat stomach and run her fingers over the hard expanse.

He grunted as she pulled his stiff nipple in between her thumb and forefinger and the sound made heat pool at her center.

"Well, well, Miss Garcia," Dean said, his deep voice soft and teasing, gravelly with need and heat, "you're in such a hurry to sin now that you have your soul back. You willing to chance a bit of hellfire and damnation?"

His grin was wolfish and wicked. Ellie trailed her tongue along his sharp, square jaw and watched his grin melt into a groan.

"No way, Papi." She said into his ear. "We're going to heaven tonight."

He captured her lips in a deep kiss, pushing his tongue roughly into her mouth and ravishing it. She moaned harshly as he kissed her with all the skill she'd known he would possess. It would be a crime to have a mouth like his and not know how to use it.

She pushed the green and white flannel he wore off his shoulders and encouraged him to sit up so she could pull his t-shirt off over his head.

He sat up, and when his torso was bare, he seemed to think that turnabout was fair play and pulled her black tank top over her head. But instead of pulling it completely off her arms, he grabbed the material in his fist and used it to secure her arms behind her.

Completely at his mercy, all she could do was writhe and pant as he ran his fingers feather light across the tops of her breasts where they rose out of her bra, before dipping his head to nip and lick all along her collarbone.

He pushed up the cups of her bra and sucked one nipple into his mouth. The warm, wet heat of it had her arching her back and pressing closer to him. He grinned at her as he leaned his head back against the couch. "Just give me a short intermission, and I'll show you what I've got planned for Act Two."

Casting Goals: Moulin Rouge!

Ask and ye shall receive!

Ya’ll know that I absolutely hate the musical adaptation of Moulin Rouge! I think it is complete and udder garbage. But anyway, I have my own version of Moulin Rouge! that I wrote and here is how I would cast it. Also my dream designer would have been Maria Björnson, but since we lost her several years ago, I would have to chose Bob Crowley as my second choice. I was thinking Rachel Chavkin as director or honestly just bring back Baz... More importantly, I think the ensemble needs to be like Cabaret where every cast member has their own specific name and personality (The swings as well should play their own character when they are on) so I took the liberty of creating those names. Also Nini was literally played by an older woman (Caroline O’Connor being 39 at the time) so can we go back to that?

                    while the circle remains strong,  however,  there are ever -  growing whispers of change.  downworlders are banding together,  slipping through the cracks,  becoming more proficient at dodging each attack that the circle has to offer.  revolution is stirring  —  clearly,  the war is not over just yet.

-SUPERNATURAL SUPPORT GROUP-

A note shows up at your doorstep one morning, and somehow it goes unseen by both of your parents. The writing on the front is somehow a mixture of rushed and sloppy, but well thought out and nice, all at once. You open it up, and inside is pretty simple. An address, a time, and a few simple words that stick out more than anything else. ‘Supernatural Support group. By invitation only.’ You ask yourself why you would show up to that, because after all, it’s surely fake. But even so, what you are is forcing you to at least see what this might be.

The Supernatural Support group is a small and secret group set up by none other than neighborhood weirdo K Mars, as a way to try and push her niece to make more friends. The club is by invitation only, sent out exclusively by K Mars. The group meets twice a week after school in the living room of her house, and talk about anything that might be troubling them, while working on letting them know that they are not alone. Snacks are provided.

Who Won and What Happened at the 2019 Tony Awards

‘Hadestown’ wins best new musical.

“Hadestown,” a pulsing, poetic contemporary riff on an ancient Greek myth, won the Tony Award for best new musical Sunday night, triumphing over film adaptations, a musical comedy and a jukebox show.

The win, coming at a time when Broadway is enjoying a long-running box office boom, marks the sixth year in a row that Tony voters have chosen an inventive show nurtured by nonprofits over more commercial fare.

“Hadestown,” dreamed up by a Vermont singer-songwriter who as a child became fascinated by the doomed love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, is at once tragic and hopeful, suggesting that the very act of storytelling can be a salve for sadness.

Fueled by a seven-piece onstage band, the blues-and-folk-styled show is set in a jazz club that morphs into an oil drum, and alludes to climate change, labor strife and, indirectly, immigration. The show’s most resonant song, written before Donald J. Trump became president, is called “Why We Build the Wall.”

The musical beat out an original musical comedy, “The Prom,” about a group of narcissistic actors who try to advance their careers with an act of unwanted do-goodism, as well as two stage adaptations of well-known films, “Tootsie” and “Beetlejuice,” and a jukebox musical, “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations.”

All four cost more to bring to Broadway than “Hadestown,” which is also notable for the number of women at the wheel — still a relative rarity in commercial theater.

Two of its lead producers are women, as is the lead producer of “The Ferryman,” which won as best new play, and “Oklahoma!,” which won as best musical revival.

The 73rd annual Tonys ceremony, held at Radio City Music Hall, was a night more buoyant than surprising.

The inventive director of “Hadestown,” Rachel Chavkin, who previously brought “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812” to Broadway, picked up her first Tony for directing the new musical. She was the only woman nominated as a director of any show this year, a fact that she noted ruefully during her acceptance speech. And she is only the fourth woman ever to win a Tony as director of a musical.

“I wish I wasn’t the only woman directing a musical on Broadway this season,” she said, before calling for greater gender and racial diversity among theater artists and critics.

“This is not a pipeline issue,” she added. “It is a failure of imagination by a field whose job is to imagine the way the world could be.”

“Hadestown” was conceived and written by Anaïs Mitchell, a singer-songwriter with no ties to Broadway (besides a childhood affection for “Les Misérables”), who won a Tony for her score. She began the musical as a DIY community theater project in 2006, touring small Vermont venues in a silver school bus packed with props.

Among the lessons Ms. Mitchell said she learned from working on the show for so long: “Nobody does it alone.”

The show’s other winners included André De Shields, a theater veteran who in 1975 broke out as the title character in “The Wiz.” He won for playing Hermes, a Greek god who serves as the musical’s narrator and travel guide.

“The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next, so keep climbing,” the 73-year-old Mr. De Shields advised as he accepted the award for best featured actor in a musical.

“Hadestown” picked up eight awards in all, including for scenic design by Rachel Hauck; orchestrations by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose; lighting design by Bradley King; and sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz.

The show is shaping up to be a hit, despite a lack of name recognition and a very crowded theatrical marketplace. Since opening in April it has been selling well, and word-of-mouth appears strong.

The other musicals did not go home empty-handed: Santino Fontana, the virtuosic star of “Tootsie,” won as best actor in a musical, and the show’s book writer, Robert Horn, won in his category. “Ain’t Too Proud” picked up an award for Sergio Trujillo’s electrifying choreography.

‘The Ferryman’ ends up on top in a strong season for plays.

“The Ferryman,” a sprawling Irish drama by the English writer Jez Butterworth, won the Tony for best new play, fueled by admiration for its sophisticated storytelling, which manages to be suspenseful and funny and romantic and eerie — all at once.

The category was quite competitive this season, which saw an unusually ambitious assortment of dramas and comedies, heartening doomsayers who have long fretted about the health of plays on Broadway, where the big money and big crowds flock to musicals.

The biggest play of the season — as measured by cost to develop and weekly take at the box office — is “To Kill a Mockingbird.” But it was not nominated for best play, leaving the awards race between “Ferryman” and “What the Constitution Means to Me,” an autobiographical reflection on gender and the law written and performed by the American Heidi Schreck.

The night belonged to “Ferryman,” which considers Ireland’s Troubles as refracted through a boisterous household that includes adults and children, plus a baby, a goose and a rabbit. Sam Mendes won as the play’s director, and Rob Howell won two prizes, for its costume and scenic design.

The also-rans will be fine — both “Mockingbird” and “Constitution” are planning tours, and “Mockingbird” is settling in for an extended run on Broadway.

Ali Stroker becomes first wheelchair user to win a Tony.

One of the night’s emotional highlights: Ali Stroker becoming the first wheelchair user to win a Tony. Ms. Stroker, 31, lost the use of her legs in a car accident at age two; now she is featured as Ado Annie, the lusty young woman who “cain’t say no” in a revival of “Oklahoma!”

“This award is for every kid who is watching tonight who has a disability, who has a limitation or a challenge, who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena,” Ms. Stroker said. “You are.”

Among the night’s other winners: The 87-year-old comedian, writer and director Elaine May earned her first Tony, as leading actress in a play, for movingly portraying a woman losing her memory in a revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s “The Waverly Gallery.” Ms. May, who burst onto the scene in the 1950s performing comedy with Mike Nichols, won for her first Broadway role in more than 50 years.

Bryan Cranston, a favorite among Broadway audiences, won his second Tony for the stage adaptation of the film “Network.” Mr. Cranston, 63, starred as Howard Beale, the “mad as hell” anchorman in the classic satire of television news.

“Finally a straight old white man gets a break!” he said, before dedicating his award “to all the real journalists around the world, both in the print media and broadcast media, who actually are in the line of fire with their support of truth.”

“The media is not the enemy of the people,” he said. “Demagoguery is the enemy of the people.”

Stephanie J. Block, a Broadway fan favorite, won her first Tony as one of three women portraying different stages of Cher’s life in “The Cher Show.” The victory is a triumph for Ms. Block, who famously lost out on the lead role in “Wicked” years ago, and who had been nominated twice previously.

She thanked not only God, but also “the goddess Cher.”

Bob Mackie, who designed Cher’s attention-demanding looks for decades, also won, for the show’s costumes.

Celia Keenan-Bolger was named best featured actress in a play for portraying Scout, the daughter of Atticus Finch. in Aaron Sorkin’s new stage adaptation of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Ms. Keenan-Bolger is 41, and playing Scout both as a young woman and as a child; in her acceptance speech, she praised the novelist Harper Lee “for making the greatest literary heroine of all time.”

And Bertie Carvel won as best featured actor in a play for his portrayal of a young Rupert Murdoch in “Ink,” a British drama about an early chapter in the media titan’s tabloid career.

James Corden proves an amiable host.

The show’s host was James Corden, a lifelong theater lover who won a Tony in 2012 (for “One Man, Two Guvnors”) and who led the ceremony in 2016. He proved, once again, an amiable, apolitical and self-deprecating host.

As the telecast began, Mr. Corden exhorted viewers — who, ironically, were mostly watching on television — to think about getting off their couches and going to see a show. He cracked joke after joke about the challenges facing Broadway — high ticket prices, low artist salaries (at least when compared to television) — but celebrated the joys, and the spectacle, of “actual people in an actual space.”

At one point he showed his father taking a phone call in the audience and describing his whereabouts as “some theater thing James is doing.” Later he joined last year’s hosts, Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles, for a spoof version of “Michael in the Bathroom” — a popular song from the cult Broadway musical “Be More Chill” — the trio joking in a Radio City restroom about their insecurity over the broadcast’s ratings.

And then, saying theater would be more popular if its stars feuded with one another as they do in pop music, he pretended to try to get stage stars to air their grievances with one another, but they mostly just expressed their mutual fandom.

‘Oklahoma!’ wins as best musical revival.

A provocative production of “Oklahoma!” — dark and violent, doubling down on questions the show has always asked about America — won a two-way contest for best musical revival.

The win marked the first time the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, which first opened in 1943, won a competitive Tony contest although it was honored with a special prize in 1993 for its 50th anniversary.

The new production features video, contemporary dance, and an unsettling depiction of frontier justice that is startling to those accustomed to more traditional versions of the musical.

A starry 50th anniversary staging of “The Boys in the Band,” a pioneering gay drama by Mart Crowley, triumphed in the contest for best play revival.

Mr. Crowley, tearing up as he accepted the award, paid tribute to “the original cast of nine brave men who did not listen to their agents when they were told that their careers would be finished if they did this play.” Several members of the original cast later died of AIDS-related illnesses.

King Kong and Spider-Man’s aunt are already winners.

Each year, noncompetitive Tony Awards are doled out, some of them noted on the televised broadcast, and others presented at earlier ceremonies or during commercial breaks.

The biggest winner this year, at least as measured by tonnage: King Kong. The massive animatronic marionette at the heart of a new stage musical, “King Kong,” was honored with a special Tony, given to his Australian creators, Sonny Tilders and Creature Technology Company.

The industry’s annual lifetime achievement awards went to Rosemary Harris — a veteran stage actress, now featured on Broadway in a revival of “My Fair Lady,” who played Aunt May in three Spider-Man films; to the playwright Terrence McNally, whose “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune” is now running on Broadway; and to the musician Harold Wheeler, best known for his years as musical director of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Among the other honors:

Madeline Michel, the theater director at Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Va., received the Excellence in Theater Education Award. Ms. Michel’s program used drama to explore racial inequality after violence followed a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in 2017.

The actress Judith Light, a two-time Tony winner, won the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award, which recognizes volunteerism, in honor of her work on H.I.V./AIDS issues and her support for gay rights.

Marin Mazzie, a beloved stage actress who died of ovarian cancer last year, received a posthumous special Tony Award in recognition of her advocacy for women’s health.

Jason Michael Webb, a composer and musical director, won a special Tony Award for his arrangements of the gospel songs and hymns sung in the play “Choir Boy.” The cast of that play, which closed in March, will reunite to perform at the award ceremony.

The annual Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theater were given to the choir Broadway Inspirational Voices; to Peter Entin, retired vice president of theater operations for the Shubert Organization; to Joseph Blakely Forbes, the founder and president of Scenic Art Studios, Inc.; and to the Theater District’s firehouse, FDNY Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9.

And the annual regional theater Tony Award went to TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, a nonprofit founded in 1970 that is one of the nation’s few major regional theaters located in suburbia.

The Tony Awards, named for the actress and philanthropist Antoinette Perry, are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing.

The recipients are chosen by 831 Tony voters, many of whom work in the theater industry and have a financial connection to one or more nominated shows. To be eligible, the shows must have opened by April 25 in one of the 41 Broadway theaters located in and around midtown Manhattan.

Winners will get an eight-inch high statuette featuring a circular silver medallion with the masks of comedy and tragedy on one side and information about the winner on the other.

The awards ceremony takes place at a time when Broadway is booming. Attendance is at record levels — 14,768,254 seats filled during the season that just ended — and so is the total box office, which was just over $1.8 billion.
