🏳️‍🌈PRIDE IN THE WHONIVERSE 🏳️‍🌈
What’s up ppls, So with Pride month coming to a close and with it a season of Doctor Who which included a Gay Romance with an openly Queer Doctor, played by a queer Icon, it only felt right to create a special piece celebrating Doctor Who’s long history of LGBTQ+ Representation.
Celebrating as many of the Whoniverses Queer or Queer Coded characters as I can think of, from the main TV show, to its spin offs like Torchwood and Class, to Big Finish audio’s which have given a litany of well written Iconic LGBT characters, to the Comics even. This show has such a queer identity and resonates so much with the community, it’s in the fabric of the show, even if there are those who would deny it. People will try and act like the Ncuti is terrible or that the show is dead when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Doctor Who now is no more political than it has always been. Doctor Who is Woke and it has been since it was first made in 1963 by A gay indian director and a young female producer, whith enlightened political views and commentary. It has always been Woke.
The Show has such a solid LGBT identity, it’s spin offs and EU even more so, with Fantastic Queer Stories and Characters throughout all mediums. So many of my favourite comfort characters are on this poster and come from the World of Doctor Who. this is my celebration of a show and it’s representation that means a lot to me. Having Come out as NB last year and knowing for Years that I was Bi, Prise is something that means more to me and gets closer and closer to my heart each year. It means the world to me that my favourite thing in the whole world, the franchise that made me feel safe, warm comforted and happy ever since I was 4 years old has such a brilliant history of inclusivity.

Happy Pride Month!
To celebrate I want to highlight this amazing article I was interviewed for a few years ago on the subject of queer coding, where I talked about what it means to make games as a queer person and how I perceive it to affect my work.
It's really well written and probably one of my favourite pieces I've ever had a voice in. To this day I'm still grateful I was given the opportunity to interview for it because everything I said in it I still find myself resolutely standing by.

The other morning I was resetting my classroom bookshelf because the kids had left it a mess when putting their books away the day before. One of the kids was sitting on the couch beside the bookshelf watching me and chatting. Part of this process includes setting up a small display of books on the top. I was searching for particular books to put on the display and the kid asked me about why I wanted those particular books and not a different one instead.
So I got to have a conversation with them about how it's Pride Month and I think it's important to have books about that because people need them. They made the connection that it's important for kids to have access to books like this in case they have family like their dad that "don't really like or understand" LGBT+ things so that they know that being LGBT+ is okay. I shared back that I think it's also important to have books like these for kids and all people because I'm asexual/aromantic and I didn't really understand those terms until I was a grown-up so I spent a lot of my youth thinking something was wrong with me, until I learned those terms and understood I wasn't alone. So I pick books that have great messages but are also good stories, books that children love but that also tell them that you're not alone and you are just right the way that you are.
I wanted to plant a seed that everyone deserves love and acceptance with that conversation but to also say 'hey, I'm a safe space if you need it, I've had some small experience with this'. But I've already begun to plant that seed a long time ago and have seen it growing in the three years this child has been a part of my room. Going from declaring they don't like JoJo Siwa (a previous favourite artist) because she's gay, to telling me they think it's okay to be gay, to purposefully picking out children's books that feature children with different gender presentations to read to me and to the class at story time. To telling me, while they read me "Sparkle Boy" that they think it's okay to dress how you want even if their dad doesn't like it because it makes people happy and feel good.
I hope that this seed that has been planted continues to grow into a strong confident person, full of acceptance and love who finds a spot in this world where they are celebrated for who they are.
I think the reason I feel compelled to share this now (not just because it's pride month) is because it's representative to me of the profound impact that we can have on another by continuing to share consistent messages about love and acceptance, sharing media that normalizes diverse identities, and calling out messages of hatred. It takes a community even if at first a community is just one person saying "I don't agree with your dad. I think that being a lesbian shouldn't change whether or not you like a singer."

On the Subject of Being Queer
To celebrate Pride Month, and the completion of my English-History degree, I wanted to share some thoughts on how I think Sebastian and Ciel would respond to being identified as Queer men.
Since the Victorian Era was limited in labels for Queer people (i.e., gross indecency, sexual deviants, and homosexual/homophile), I won't go into depth regarding what flavour of gay I would headcanon them as. Just playing with the idea of someone clocking them and labeling them as such.
I think their responses would be mundane and pretty similar.
For Ciel, (surprisingly), I think he would be rather unflapped by the accusation, and prefer not to identify himself as such to save face.
Tumblr media
"What is the point of labeling oneself in such a manner? Why would I draw attention to myself in that way? Moreover, prescribing such titles to those who are different from societal norms simply enforces scrutiny on them."
As for our favourite dandy demon, I think Sebastian would be perturbed and mildly annoyed at the accusation (because, of course he isn't straight).
Tumblr media
"Humans are so very attached to putting names to superficial experiences. To define an entity such as myself on human terms is a grave undermining of my nature. Desire is best defined as raw and unassuming; or, better yet, undefined altogether."
Despite their apathy, I think they would both be fervent believers of "anyone can love/fuck anyone and it's none of your bloody business."
tl;dr, they are indeed both Queer but prefer not to get into it.

JOMP BPC: LGBTQIA+ PRIDE
For Pride month, I figured I'd share some of my favourite LGBT+ books!
Starting off easily, we have Heartstopper!
Tumblr media
If you're looking for a heartfelt, uplifting story that beautifully explores LGBTQ+ themes, "Heartstopper" by Alice Oseman is a must-read. This graphic novel series follows the blossoming romance between Charlie, a shy, openly gay high school student, and Nick, a popular rugby player who starts to question his own sexuality. The series is celebrated for its authentic portrayal of LGBTQ+ experiences, capturing the nuances of coming out, self-discovery, and the importance of supportive friendships and family. With its charming illustrations and tender narrative, "Heartstopper" offers a positive and inclusive depiction of young love that resonates deeply with readers of all ages.
Next is Cinderella is dead!
Tumblr media
"Cinderella Is Dead" by Kalynn Bayron offers a fresh and empowering twist on the classic fairy tale, set in a world where the story of Cinderella is weaponized to oppress women and girls. At its heart is Sophia, a determined young woman who is in love with her best friend, Erin, and refuses to conform to the rigid societal expectations. This LGBTQ+ inclusive retelling masterfully blends elements of romance, adventure, and social justice, providing a powerful narrative about resistance and self-acceptance. Bayron's novel not only challenges traditional gender roles but also celebrates queer love and the courage to fight for one's truth, making it an inspiring read for anyone seeking a vibrant and affirming story.
For a graphic novel, try The magic fish!
Tumblr media
"The Magic Fish" by Trung Le Nguyen is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel that seamlessly weaves together fairy tales and real-life struggles, offering a touching exploration of LGBTQ+ themes. The story centers around Tiến, a young Vietnamese-American boy who uses fairy tales to communicate with his non-English speaking mother about his own journey of self-discovery and coming out. This heartfelt narrative highlights the power of stories to bridge cultural and generational gaps, while celebrating the universal themes of love and acceptance. "The Magic Fish" is a poignant and visually stunning work that provides a compassionate and nuanced portrayal of LGBTQ+ identity, making it an essential read for those seeking a moving and inclusive tale.
For fantasy, how about A tale of magic!
Tumblr media
"A Tale of Magic" by Chris Colfer is an enchanting prequel to his beloved "Land of Stories" series that weaves a rich tapestry of magic, adventure, and inclusive themes. The story follows Brystal Evergreen, a courageous girl who defies societal norms and discovers her own magical abilities in a world that forbids female magic users. Among the diverse cast of characters, Colfer introduces LGBTQ+ representation through various characters and their journeys, promoting themes of acceptance, self-empowerment, and breaking free from prejudice. With its imaginative world-building and heartfelt storytelling, "A Tale of Magic..." inspires readers to embrace their true selves and champions the beauty of diversity in all its forms.
"But what about sad romance?" I hear you say! How about If tomorrow doesn't come!
Tumblr media
"If Tomorrow Doesn't Come" by Jen St. Jude is a profoundly moving novel that centers on LGBTQ+ themes with tenderness and authenticity. The story follows Avery, a young girl grappling with her mental health and the weight of unspoken feelings for her best friend, Cass. Set against the backdrop of an impending apocalypse, the novel beautifully explores Avery's journey of self-acceptance and the courage to embrace her queer identity. St. Jude's writing offers a poignant and hopeful message about the importance of love, connection, and finding strength in vulnerability. "If Tomorrow Doesn't Come" is a touching and inspiring read that celebrates the resilience and beauty of LGBTQ+ identities, making it a must-read for those seeking a deeply emotional and affirming story.
Looking for a graphic novel with trans representation? Take Welcome to St. Hell!
Tumblr media
"Welcome to St. Hell" by Lewis Hancox is a powerful and candid graphic memoir that provides a deeply personal and humorous exploration of growing up transgender. Through his engaging illustrations and honest storytelling, Hancox recounts his experiences navigating life in a small town, dealing with the challenges of gender identity, and ultimately finding acceptance and happiness. The memoir captures the struggles and triumphs of transitioning, highlighting the importance of self-discovery, resilience, and the support of loved ones. "Welcome to St. Hell" offers an inspiring and relatable narrative for LGBTQ+ readers, making it a valuable addition to queer literature that encourages empathy and understanding.
And if you want a book without a queer lead: Me, my dad and the end of the rainbow!
Tumblr media
"Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow" by Benjamin Dean is a heartwarming and vibrant middle-grade novel that beautifully explores LGBTQ+ themes through the eyes of a young protagonist. The story follows Archie Albright, a young boy who embarks on a colorful adventure with his friends to attend a Pride parade after discovering that his dad is gay. This journey not only strengthens the bond between Archie and his father but also introduces Archie to a diverse and supportive LGBTQ+ community. Dean's storytelling is filled with warmth, humor, and empathy, making the novel a joyous celebration of love, acceptance, and family. "Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow" is an uplifting and affirming read that highlights the importance of understanding and embracing one's true self and loved ones.

Hi I’m honestly in love with your writing and the fact that you write for male readers is just *chefs kiss 🤌* could I please request a Newt x male reader, kinda like your other newt fic except Thomas takes a liking to the reader and it’s Newt that gets jealous, while reader is just oblivious because he hasn’t really talked to the greenie and is too busy doing medjack things.
Please don’t stress to get this finished I’ll wait forever if I have to.
All the love ❤️ - Static
Ooo I'm loving the Newt attention right now, I'm obviously a Minho fan (*cough* the over 25 fics I've written for him *cough*) but Newt is easily one of my favourite characters and I'm honoured to get the opportunity to write him.
JEALOUS BOY
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST | NEWT MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: See above. Timeline doesn't line up (or exist) but kinda movie based fic. Teresa ceases to exist because I couldn't work out how to make that work- there's enough going on.
WARNINGS: Inappropriate language, miscommunication trope, kind of oblivious reader, Thomas being a dumbass.
Tumblr media
Greenie Day is always fun. It's definitely your favourite day of the month. Apart from having a fresh face to watch the other Gladers tease, you also get to celebrate with the Bonfire night.
And today is no different. You have been blessed with Thomas. He seems slightly unstable and unsure of himself, but he is definitely handling things a lot better than most of he boys do.
He's cute, for sure, but a lot of boys here are. That doesn't really matter though, because you've set your heart on Newt.
You don't really know how it happened, but the second in command caught your attention almost immediately. He's one of the more grounded people in the Glade, and he's probably the most reliably.
And Minho drunkenly told you that Newt's gay. So, you might actually have a chance.
Though, you're one of the three Medjacks, so you're normally busy with work. The Glades really isn't a place for romance, and Newt is one of the few people that is actually busier than you.
And Newt probably doesn't even like you.
Honestly, Newt hadn't even really thought about it- until Thomas beats him to it.
"Who's that?" Thomas asks as him and Newt share a glass of Gally's special brew™, sitting in front of a log, using it as a backrest.
"Who's who?" Newt asks after taking a swig of his drink.
"Him," Thomas points at you from across the Glade as you talk to Jeff and Clint, laughing as you recall some of the dumbest injuries the Gladers have had. "Who's he?"
Newt's smile falters slightly. "(Y/N)." He simply answers. "Why you asking?"
Thomas shrugs. "He's kinda attractive."
For some reason, a sharp feeling crosses through Newt's chests. He shuffles uncomfortably before getting up. "C'mon, I'll show you around."
Thomas scrambles to his feet, struggling to keep up with Newt as he effortlessly traverses through the crowd.
Newt pretty much introduces Thomas to everyone except you. And then he ends up in a fight with Gally.
Which is always a fun watch.
You remain oblivious as you continue on with your job in the day following. Normally, after Bonfire, your clientele consists of boys suffering from hangovers and embarrassment.
"Gally, if you're gonna throw up, go outside, there's only so many egg and garlic cures I can make in such a small space of time, yanno." You mumble, stirring the strong smelling solution.
"I'm not gonna throw up." The Builder grumbles as he hunches over the side of the bed.
"You'd think since you make this klunk you'd be able to handle it. Or were you just nursing your pride after being floored by a Greenie?" He glares at you as you pass him the drink.
"This klunk's gross."
"You do this to yourself."
"Hey," you look up as Thomas awkwardly knocks on the doorframe.
"Hey, Greenie, you need somethin'?" You say nonchalantly. Thomas is just another patient to you.
"Uh, just thought I'd come see what this job is about."
"You fancy being a Medjack?"
"Haven't you heard?" Gally scoffs. "Greenie here has his heart set on being a Runner." You raise your eyebrow at Gally. "Newt told me."
That's weird. It's not like Newt is the type to go around talking about everyone's business- to Gally nonetheless.
You scoff. "Well, good luck with that- you'll have to get Minho's approval. He's one hard nut to crack. Maybe aim lower for now."
"Or give up all together." Gally snickers to himself.
"Gally," you snap, "get out- you're just a whiney baby who overendulged- scram, shank."
Gally grumbles under him breath, but he does get up, even though he does nearly topple over in the process.
"You're uh, (Y/N), right?" Thomas asks once Gally is gone.
"Uh, yeah, who told you that?"
"Oh, I asked Newt. He didn't seem too pleased about it, though."
You brush off the comment, turning back to making more headache cures for the undeniable number of boys that'll be flooding into your tent soon.
"Well, you should be checking out some of the other jobs- people don't normally trail to be a Medjack very often. There's only three of us and it's harder to get in this kluck-hole than it is out in the Maze. You could be a Track-hoe or a Builder, or even a Slicer if you don't mind the blood."
"Yeah, but I want to be a Runner," you scoff, shaking your head to try and hide your smirk. Gally might be right about this one.
Thats a first.
"Oi, Greenie," Newt appears in the doorway, "the shuck are you doin'? Get your ass to the Bloodhouse, you're tryin' out as a Slicer today."
Thomas pushes his lips into a thin line, nodding at you. "See you around." You give him an awkward wave and he leaves.
"The Greenie's shuckin' weird." You laugh, but when Newt doesn't respond, you look over at him. He face looks like thunder. "You good, mate?"
'Mate' is something you only say to Newt, mainly because you secretly adore his accent but also to lightly tease him.
"Yeah," he clears his throat, "yeah, so, you think Tommy's a freak?"
"I wouldn't go that far- but I don't think we've ever had a Greenie with such a shuckin' death wish before." Newt remains silent. "You don't like him?"
"No," he sighs, "I do. The shank's got a spark- we need more of that. I just..." He trails off, making eye contact with you. "Doesn't matter. I'll catch you later."
Newt leaves as fast as his arrived, leaving you very confused and slightly lost. That's until Clint stumbles into the Med Hut with Jeff carrying him, clearly still intoxicated.
You'd been wondering where they'd been.
The next couple of days are... strange, to say to say the least. Thomas came in almost every morning to speak to you, which started causing some exchanging of glances between your colleagues.
You, however, paid no mind to it.
Newt, however, did.
"Who does the Greenie think he is?" Newt grumbles to Minho, who is mouthfuls deep in a portion of of Frypan's stew.
"This about your little crush again?" The Runner says after swallowing.
"What? I don't have a crush."
"Dude, you've been complaining about Thomas all week."
"So? I don't have a crush on the shuckin' Greenie."
"Wha- no," Minho snorts, rubbing his face in his hands at his friends own cock-blocking. "You're jealous."
"What?"
"Of Thomas."
"What?"
"You have a thing for (Y/N), and the Greenie likes him too- so you're jealous."
Newt blinks. "What? No, I don't have a shuckin' crush, okay? He's just distracting him from work, a'ight? And Thomas needs to get his ass to work figuring what job he's gonna do. This isn't about (Y/N) at all."
"You're full of klunk," Minho says after sarcastically nodding, waving his fork around.
"Mate-"
"No, you're full of klunk," Minho sighs. "You've been talking to and about this boy since he got here, and suddenly a new guy shows up, who clearly likes your 'bestfriend'," he puts that in air quotes, "and suddenly you're moping around like a shuckin' baby. You're thick as pig klunk if you ain't figured out what's going on by now."
There's a short period of silence as Newt processes everything. Shit, maybe he is jealous. He'd always liked you a little bit more than the other Gladers, but he kind of thought it was just admiration.
But he was jealous when Thomas pointed you out.
It made his skin crawl and his body burn.
"Shit," he mumbles, his elbows resting on the table and his hands in his hair. "I think I do like him."
"There ya go- shuckin' finally." Minho barks a laugh.
"So, what do I do?"
Minho hesitates, before just shrugging. "You don't see me having many romantic prospects around here, do ya? Box hasn't sent my type up yet," he attempts to joke, which just earns a glare from the second in command. He clears his throat. "Look, if your jealousy is getting to you that bad, just claims what's yours."
"Minho," Newt groans, "don't talk about people like that."
"You know what I mean- just ask him out. Tell him how you feel and get you a boy."
"I don't know if-"
"Suck it up, shank- I don't risk my life everyday to come back here and deal with this klunk." Minho stands up. "Alby has you running this joint for a reason- figure your shit out."
And with that, Minho walks away, probably to talk to someone who isn't causing him a headache with romantic issues.
Newt decides to see what happens, play it by ear and stick to his job. After all, he's a busy dude and- oh my God, is Thomas talking to you again?
Newt spots you sitting with Thomas. You look almost bored, probably thinking about some kind of medical solutions instead of listening to whatever nonsense Thomas is spewing.
But for some reason, this sparks a new wave of jealousy in him. Maybe Minho's right- about needing to talk to you, not claiming you.
You're a person, after all.
Standing up, he storms over to you.
"Hey," he taps your shoulder, pulling you out of your trance, "I need to talk to you." He jolts his head in a general direction away from the small group you're in.
"Oh, sure," you scramble up, following Newt as he walks away. You can practically see the steam coming off his head.
You walk a fair few metres away, ending up at the edge of the Deadheads.
"Newt, is everything okay-?"
"I like you!" He snaps, turning around and starting you.
"I like you, okay? I like you and all your dumb medical facts and the way you help Chuck when he's freaking out. I like you, like I have a crush on you and it's freaking me the shuck out! A-and watching you flirt with the Greenie is driving me nuts!"
"I wasn't flirting with-"
"I just- Minho told me to tell you and that's what I'm going. Make of it what you will but-"
There's something about the normally calm Newt losing his cool over you that is weirdly attractive. Not only is your long-time crush confessing to you, but he's actually possessive over it. Should that be attractive? Probably not, but it still is to you.
Newt is mid-speech when you step forward, grabbing his face with both your hands and pulling him towards you. Your lips connect and Newt completely freezes.
You pull away from the blond as he doesn't react. He looks at you for a second, panic taking over you. You go to speak but no sounds come out as he starts to grin.
Pulling you back in, he kisses you again, this time actually responding properly.
The kiss lasts a couple of seconds before you separate.
"Will you please be my boyfriend, (Y/N)?" He asks you.
You smile. "'Course I shuckin' will."
Tumblr media
Another Newt request: done. I'm slowly getting there, and I have a couple of Gally requests to get through, but dw we'll be back to our regularly scheduled Minho content first.
I hope you enjoyed :))

What are three names you like that start with the same letter as your first name?
Amalia, Annika, Anjali
How old will you turn on your next birthday?
33 :/
What are three things you like about your birth month (besides it being the month your birthday is in)?
It's usually warm and sunny but not too blazing, it's Pride month and everything looks gay
And what are three things you dislike about it?
Sometimes it rains, I get older and it's the month we have a big work event every year
List three celebrities that are the same height as you.
Danny de Vito, Melissa Rauch, Judy Garland
Are you happy with your height or do you wish you were taller/shorter?
Taller. Much, much taller.
Which family member did you inherit your hair colour from?
My dad.
List three things in nature that are the same colour as your eyes.
Moss, fir trees, algae
What was your favourite class in high school?
English and Arts
How many sisters do you have?
Two.
How many brothers do you have?
Zero.
If you had a twin sister, what would she be named?
Salome? That's the name I was almost given.
How many dogs did you have in your lifetime?
One (Luna) for a very short amount of time. We only had her for three months, then we had to give her back to the shelter, unfortunately. She was sold to us as a "family dog", but she had been severely abused and re-building her trust in people would have required an expert's knowledge, not that of a first-time dog owner, and time that I as a full-time employee did not have. In the end, it was better for her to find someone better suited to her needs.
How many cats have you had in your lifetime?
Two: Kaveri (bless his little heart, he is now in his final resting place 💔) and our current cat Bertha
Do you prefer dogs or cats?
I like both, but cats flock to me naturally.
Where was your dad born?
Berlin, Germany.
Where was your mum born?
Berlin, Germany.
Where were you born?
Three guesses.... Berlin, Germany.
Have you ever met anyone unrelated to you with the same surname as you?
No, but it's common, so I'm sure I will at one point in my life.
How many sisters-in-laws do you have?
Technically 5, but Izzy only grew up with two of them. The other 3 are her half sisters.
How many brothers-in-laws do you have?
Two
How many nieces do you have?
Technically 7. My own sister has three daughters to whom I'm not allowed contact, my sister-in-law has twin daughters and one of Izzy's half sisters got two daughters as well, but Izzy's got no contact to said half sister. So I only really know two of my nieces
How many nephews do you have?
6. One of my sisters-in-law has a son, the other has two. Then Izzy's half sister to whom she has no contact has two sons and my brother-in-law who Izzy also cut off due to transphobic behaviour has a son as well.
How many of your grandparents are still living?
One.
What are three things you have been complimented on?
My organisational skills, my intellect and my humour
What is your dream job?
Probably an employee in a cat cafe or something.
Do you consider yourself religious?
I believe in God, but I wouldn't call myself religious.
When was the last time you stepped foot into a Church?
A good few years ago. I have a complicated relationship to the Church and like to separate it from my faith.
Do you regularly attend a Church? Why or why not?
I used to. I grew up very religious, going to Church was normal for me. However, it's a breeding ground for abusers. I was sexually and emotionally abused by Church members of different Churches and different affiliations, which made me lose hope in the Church as an institution. I still believe in God, but I am of the opinion that you can live your faith without attending Church.
Have you ever been to a mosque?
No.
Have you ever been to a synagogue?
No.
What is your favourite religious holiday?
Christmas.
If applicable, does your faith mean a lot to you?
It does, but I don't try and convert people. I also stopped believing in the kind of God that is spoken about by so-called Christians. I have read the Bible three times and attended Bible studies, so I know the historical context of the Scriptures and know that the reason a lot of the rules in the Bible exists is because it served a purpose at that time, especially hygienic reasons. Also, that book was written over 1,000 years ago by cishet men who couldn't imagine homosexual people even being a thing. And also, Jesus never mentioned gay people. At all. That was Paul, and he hated women, too. Don't listen to that misogynistic prick. In other words, yes, my faith means a lot to me personally, but I practice it within the confines of its historical and logical context.
Do you have the same worldview as your parents?
Absolutely not. They're creationists and while they accept me being queer, they think it wasn't intended for me to be so and that originally, God had other plans for me. We butt heads over it a lot.
Have you ever attended a Christian school?
Yes, twice. Though with all the bullying taking place there, you'd hardly know it.
Have you ever been baptised and if so, when or where?
Yes, when I was 14 in a big pool at my Church.
Are you happy with the current state of your nation?
No, Germany is becoming more and more right-wing and xenophobic, so as a queer person, it definitely worries me.
How many different medications do you take each day?
Three: Blood pressure pill, diabetes prevention and antidepressant
Which medication do you hate the most and why?
I'm frustrated I'm reliant on antidepressants, they also reduce my fertility which is already a problem and they sometimes give me auditory hallucinations.
Is your current doctor male or female?
Female.
Do you prefer male or female doctors? Why?
Male, just because female doctors often include me in this "us women" speak, which gives me dysphoria.
How is your mental health?
F***ed. I suffer chronic depression and anxiety disorder and lately, I've felt more burnt out than usual.

Happy fucking pride everybody!!!!
I’ve decided to celebrate by making an effort consume as much queer-centric media as I can because I tend to be very picky about the media I consume and as such tend to sleep on things I’d actually really enjoy. So, fellow queers, what should I be reading/watching/listening to this June? Books, movies, tv shows, fiction or non fiction, anything’s fine by me. Any recommendations you have would be fabulous (though I ask you to refrain from suggesting things that are already massively popular, e.g. Heartstopper, I’m looking for things I might not have heard of before).
I’ll start the recommendations going! I recently watched Boys in the Band, the 2020 version because it’s on Netflix, and had a blast. Very good film, very entertaining. Another good movie to check out is Pride (2014), not as entertaining but it still scratches that gay history itch that I always get this time of the year. I’d also love to shout out one of my favourite books of all time, They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. It’s a very good piece of queer science fiction, though be warned: it’s very sad. And if comics are more your style, Gender Queer, a memoir by Maia Kobabe, is very good, great if you’re looking for real, relatable experiences, and the art is to die for.
Let’s start this Pride month off right!

Hey beautiful people,
to celebrate pride month, this weeks theme was 'PRIDE', and it was so lovely seeing your models embracing their identities, sexualities and telling their stories.
Tumblr media
Onto the results! This week I was looking for edits that embrace your models story, whether it be their sexuality or their experience. This week, everyone made me just so proud to be apart of the community.

Iris, the Greek personification of the rainbow and messenger of the gods alongside Hermes. She is a goddess with few of her own mythologies, and worshiped very rarely, unlike most other gods. Also unlike many of the other gods, she does not have any specific stories involving homosexuality - at least, none that have been preserved in the annals of mythology. She was known as a virgin goddess, and the loyal handmaiden of Hera. Once the primary messenger to the gods, when Hermes came along she took the opportunity to dedicate her service to Hera. In some myths, it was said that she had a husband, Zephyrus - but said husband is known for his unrequited love for the spartan prince Hyacinthus (who was in love with another god, Apollo). Two gods, in love with another, but finding comfort in each other. And perhaps, Iris could be the personification of the Pride rainbow, too.

Since I was a kid, I knew I was "different." I didn't know what words like "bisexual" or "gay" meant, all I knew was that they were things my parents didn't approve of. As I got older, I learned those words, and I learned the awful connotation that came with them. I was called a delinquent, I was told I was greedy, that I was somehow sinful for the way I was born. Things were assumed about me; that I could never be a good father or a significant other, that I was a cheater and/or a whore. I was told a lot of shit, and I believed a lot of shit, but I'm here to tell you know of it is true. We are all so much more than our sexualities! We are your loved ones and your worst enemies. We are sinners and saints. We are fire and ice. We are liars and honest. We are evil and good. We are different and the same. Perfectly contradictory, but perfectly blended together. We are everything, everyone, and anything in between!

Ember: "I always try to attend the pride celebrations in San Myshuno when I can! Pride is something very close to my heart due to the fact that it's a time of the year where I, along with many others, can celebrate our sexual orientations and identities (And this very much includes Ace people as well!). That having been said, I am sadly all too aware that not everybody is fortunate enough to have accepting blood relatives embrace them, which is why it has been so important to me to support my brother Phoenix, who came out as bisexual four years ago; and now that he's 18 I've finally been able to introduce him to my favourite gay club" (pictured)

Dillion Carter by @mewo-ita
Tumblr media
Their tiny, punk-rock band hadn’t started out very prideful. How could it be when it consisted of closeted and queer jocks, nerds, and cheerleaders from their high-school? They were first bought together by a non-binary punk transfer student— Dillion. Each song, outfit and neopronoun they shared in secret went against their assigned roles by society; both inside and out of school. Each member’s shared love for music outweighed the other’s socioeconomic stereotypes. However, they insulted each other and got into arguments constantly in the beginning. Multiple times someone had left only to come back a few days later. But the actions that had once held deep shame, denial, and phobias blossomed into confidence and acceptance after all the commonalities and time spent together. It wasn’t strange these days to find them in a group cuddle after practice, at a sleepover, or just hanging out as friends in public. By the time they were in college, their group of outsiders had turned into a close-knit family. For once in the years of all the questions and hiding, the teens found themselves happy they weren’t “normal.” Today was the day they would go public with their band while in front of a live audience. With a shared nod, they stood tall in their poses and bright grins as the instrumental of "Moonlight Densetsu" kicked in. What was there to be afraid of when they had each other?

grabbing this from @galacticlamps bc I am nothing if not narcissus staring into a pond ig!!
What book are you currently reading?
I've just picked war and peace back up after ditching it for a couple months!! I'm like. a quarter of the way through ahjgfkdg. getting there.
What's your favourite movie you saw in a cinema this year?
god I think the last thing I saw at the cinema was the broadcast of a coldplay concert?? (which was rlly good & I do need to pick up the dvd. like. I need to own footage of people of the pride being performed live thank you) but I have NO idea what I saw at the cinema before that omg. definitely nothing this year
What do you usually wear?
if I'm out, then a kilt + button-up shirt/tshirt + knee-high socks + docs. maybe a waistcoat or leather jacket if it's a bit colder
How tall are you?
5'3"ish! I am. small.
What's your star sign?
pisces! I don't care about zodiac stuff at all but I do think it's funny that there's sailors + fishermen on both sides of my family, my star sign is a fish, and yet I get terribly seasick
Do you share your birthday with a celebrity or historical event?
I mean probably but I also share my birthday with my fav animal crossing villager & that's worth more to me than any celebrity tbh
Do you go by your name or a nickname?
just by my name! I've never really been one for nicknames.
Did you grow up to be what you wanted to be as a child?
absolutely not haha. think I kinda talked about this in some tags the other day but I wanted to be a vet right up until I was in late high school/starting uni, & then it all just. dried up. have wound up working in museum collections management & I love it!!!
Are you in a relationship? Who is your crush if not?
yes!!! with @ettelwenailinon ❣️💕💞💓
What's something you're good at versus something you're bad at?
ogufjkdh I am clean out of ideas for this one so I'm gonna say. I'm the gay who can drive and also the gay who can't cook <3
Dogs or cats?
cats, 100%. dogs are cute (& I have a massive soft spot for enormous female dogs who are terrified of everything) but I wouldn't own one. but at the end of the day I am a horse person over everything
What's something you'd like to create content for?
hmm idk!! I think I'm already """"creating content"""" for everything I want to be tbh. I would like to actually learn how to draw but not necessarily anything specific, you know
What's something you're currently obsessed with?
well if you've been around my blog lately you might have picked up on the fact that I'm a little obsessed with holding achilles right now. like, watching it all the way through every day obsessed whoops.
(I need to sit down and actually write out my notes on it bc I have a LOT of thoughts but that's going to inevitably end with me making actual spreadsheets. of recurring motifs and when they crop up. rn I want to figure out all the references to prophecy vs promises (there's an overarching meta in my head about like. the way achilles and patroclus relate to death and responsibility, respectively, and how that drives their dynamic/the plot), but also all the different ways their relationship is defined/described by themselves and others? and how that relates to how ultimately what they want is to be unknown, and the kind of. queer idea of being undefinable. I'm being SO normal about all this if you can't tell)
tbh it's thrown me back into greek mythology in general. I have been watching so many greek god vine compilations & they all absolutely send me
What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
eurovision.................. god the songs this year are so. there's a handful of ones that are pretty good but so many are just boring pop songs. take me back to 2021. I'm hinging my entire sanity on kalush orchestra's winner's performance tbh that's going to be the highlight of the night
What's a hidden talent of yours?
ok I said I'm the gay I can't cook but the one thing I can make is potatoes. I do really good mashed/roast potatoes. mutuals you are invited over for this
Are you religious?
nope! my family's never been religious for as long as I've been alive, and I just. don't believe in anything. not necessarily ruling anything out though, the universe is very big. and like, I think I have a kind of spirituality in some ways? like I have some vague beliefs about objects holding stories/memories. but I think that's a function of working in a museum gkfjhds, you can't help but personify stuff a bit
What's something you wish to have at this moment?
the uk visa I'm applying for............................ or the truly ridiculous amount of money I paid for it. god why is it so expensive.
not tagging anyone bc I think this was technically meant to be for new year's??? but hey if anyone wants to do it, you're welcome :)

I get really happy when I think about my Gay Shelf. My bedroom wall space is covered a solid 40% in bookshelves, and I have my own special system for organizing everything, but my Gay Shelf is maybe my favourite.
It’s got a pocket-sized Dorian Gray right next to its full-sized Italian counterpart (working my way up to being able to translate it), which is to the left of my battered copy of The Song of Achilles with the little notes me and my best friend wrote while we shared custody of it. It’s also got the Italian translation right next to it. Two out of the three All For The Game books are there (the first one is on loan) and they’re right next to my copy of Red, White, and Royal Blue with the highlights on every page. One Last Stop is on its right, and they have matching pink spines with I Kissed Shara Wheeler. That one’s the newest addition to the shelf. I got it from the oldest queer bookstore in my city after watching my first drag show. It’s right next to Gideon the Ninth, which is next to Harrow the Ninth, which is next to Nona the Ninth, and there’s a space open for Alecto when that gets published. Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor is on there, too—and the only reason a fair few Rick Riordan books aren’t included is because I have a dedicated Rick Riordan shelf on the opposite wall. Iron Widow will slot nicely next to it when I get it back from my friend (you know who you are). Legends and Lattes and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe are leaning against each other like buddies. Her Royal Highness is there in all its underrated glory, seriously, go read that book, it needs more love. Wayward Son is on the end because it is bright yellow and matches absolutely no other aesthetic and I love it for that. My Gay Shelf is only half of a larger shelf with a sliding door. The other half is full of classics (my absolutely destroyed copy of Dracula is right next to a mint-condition Frankenstein, which is right next to a stolen library copy of The Hobbit). It’s very discreet. But I keep the door covering the other side of the shelf, unless I know there are people coming who will ask questions about it. The Gay Shelf is not organized by genre or age category or anything—I keep series with series and translations together, but otherwise, it’s a free-for-all. I really like it that way. Something about it feels like solidarity.
Maybe that’s a kind of cringe thing to say about a bookshelf, but I’m choosing to kill the part of me that cringes, so cope. I like having science fantasy horror books about mentally unstable necromancer lesbians right next to cheesy modern YA rom-coms with useless bisexual protagonists. I like having The Picture of Dorian Gray right next to The Song of Achilles right next to The Foxhole Court. The entire shelf just makes me very, very happy, and Pride Month is coming up, and I want to reread everything on my Gay Shelf before the end of June to celebrate.
I hope other people get to have their own Gay Shelves, if they want them. Mine makes me happy. Queer people deserve to have things that make us happy.
