The #afrolatinofestivalnyc is this weekend and I'm so excited to be around people who identify as I do.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It took me a long time to get to a point where I could confidently identify my race and ethnicity. It wasn't until I got into college that I was able to finally feel confident in referring to myself as an Afro-Latina. That I could finally feel confident enough to say, yes I am black.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My mother is from Puerto Rican, my dad is from Colombia and I was born and raised here, so you can see where the confusion may have set it.
