THIS IS: SIARGAO ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
December film dump 🎞️
Growing up in Mindanao for almost 2 decades and never actually being able to traverse the picturesque landscapes in the eastern part of the island is something that I know I have to break before the year ends. So I did.
I flew from Manila to Cebu so early in the morning to catch a connecting flight to Siargao by noon. Traveling to Siargao was a lot of firsts for me. Not having to go to every detail but when the plane was about to take off to Siargao, we were all offloaded due to the bad weather on the island. Fortunately, instead of having to fly back to Manila, the airline was kind enough to take me to a nearby hotel in Cebu, all expenses paid including food, transportation, and next-day ticket. It was an unexpected staycation which surprisingly I enjoyed.
Tumblr media
Coming from a very tiring day at work and then going to the airport, I felt like I really needed this quiet time, and I was able to check in to this lavish hotel all by myself while waiting for my flight the next day. Also, I had a great night as well in Cebu catching up with one of my long-time friends and her beaux. I went back to my hotel around 3 in the morning because there’s just so many things to catch up and I really missed my homie so much. Keyword: low-maintenance friendships.
Tumblr media
So the day finally came, and I was able to land safely on the island of Siargao. Right off the bat on my first night, I had a lovely dinner with my travel friends slash buddies at work and we went to a bar, and danced the night away which to me serves as a prelude to the great experience this vibrant community had in stored for me as a Mindanaoan that have never set foot beyond the confines of Zamboanga and western Mindanao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We spent our days being on the road which to me was such a release. Being able to smell the fresh ocean breeze while blasting our favorite Y2K songs in the car and relying on Waze or Google Maps for our next destination, to me, makes the trip so much fun because of the spontaneity and unpredictability that it brings. We went island hopping, danced in the boat, swam on open waters, ate our hearts out, moved from one accommodation to another, and I tried surfing for the first time! I never thought I would enjoy the experience because it was raining lightly at that time and the waves were so big it could easily engulf me, but man, best day ever!!!! I fell on the surfing board and slammed my body on the rushing waves several times but being able to stand on the surfboard for the first time was such a liberating experience. A little bit of a stretch, but it was and I will try it again once I go back to Siargao.

I flew back to Cebu and then to Manila to catch one of my friend’s wedding and luckily I made it with no delay. Looking at the pictures that I got to develop from a Fuji film camera that I brought with me on the island, I am reminded again of the incredible healing power of what it’s like to try new things, be with nature, and just breathe. Knowing that the year is about to end in a couple of weeks, I felt so blessed to have that opportunity to break the complicated rhythm of corporate life and to disconnect for a moment.
After 3 weeks, I get to fly back to Boracay to celebrate New Year’s Eve. So many epic moments that I am also grateful for which I may save for the future but nevertheless, my last month of 2023 was such a banger and I hope it always feels that way.
By the way, I’m writing all these on my iPhone because I’m too tired to get up and open my MacBook, so I appreciate you for hanging with me this far. So that’s it for 2023!
Simply put, I just want to say Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones, and may 2024 be as effervescent as your hopes and dreams for the future.

And Now It's Time for Silly Songs with Larry: the part where Larry comes out and Sings a Silly Song.
That's right, the VeggieTales Villain Song Showdown is in it's final days, and that means it's time for the Very Veggie Silly Song Showdown!
Tumblr media
Playlist is Here. First Round of Polls (barring any major hang-ups) should go up on Sunday.
Match-up list and more details on how the bracket was formed under the cut.
Now, a couple of things: This is every song from a VeggieTales episode that fills the spot traditionally held by Silly Songs with Larry (so yes we do have Love Songs with Mr. Lunt, Obscure Broadway Showtunes, etc.) plus a few that even if they aren't in that specific spot, they're a non-traditional episode equivalent (feature film credits songs, song-compilation-episode premiered songs, and Lost Puppies because it just feels like a silly song).
This number of songs (and the number there would be if I did JUST the official ones) is... not traditional tournament compatible. So, to try to make this as fair as possible, I had to get creative.
First, and the easiest to see on the visual bracket, Semifinals will be Top 3 of the Left and Top 3 of the Right (as opposed to Top 2).
Second, there are 3 Round 1 "Themed" Match-ups. These do get to skip a round, which I'm not a fan of because I feel like it gives them a free pass; however, these also have 3 songs in each, which means to move on it has to beat 2 other songs as opposed to 1, and in my mind that makes it harder, so I'm thinking maybe hopefully it evens out? (If you don't like it... it's VeggieTales Silly Songs, don't take it so seriously).
These themed match-ups also serve as a way to compare similar songs. We've got the three Boyz in the Sink songs (Bellybutton, Mess Down in Egypt, and Bubble Rap), the three Christmas songs (Oh Santa, 8 Polish Foods of Christmas, and Wrapped Myself Up for Christmas), and three Pirates Who Don't Do Anything but-not-their-original-theme-song Songs (Do the Moo Shoo, Credits Song, and Rock Monster).
So that's how I tried to work with there being a non-easily-bracketable number of songs. And as far as how the match-ups were distributed: it looks random, but it's not? It was a lot so I don't want to try to describe it in too much detail, but it is based on grouping them in chronological order, pitting the groups against each other and putting them on opposite sides and in different branches of the bracket. Basically, trying to delay any potential rematches of the ten in the Ultimate Silly Song Countdown until as late in the tournament as possible.
Anyway, now for the actual Match-ups:
Left Side:
A.1: "The Water Buffalo Song" vs "Monkey"
A.2: "Lost Puppies" vs "Astonishing Wigs"
A.3: "Dance of the Cucumber" vs "Sneeze if you Need To"
A.4: "SUV Song" vs "Best Friends Forever"
B.1: "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" vs "Donuts for Benny"
B.2: "The Blues with Larry" vs "Happy Tooth Day"
B.3: "Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" vs "Where Have All the Staplers Gone?"
B.4: "My Baby Elf" vs "The Perfect Puppy"
C.1: "Endangered Love" vs "The Hopperena"
C.2: "The Gated Community" vs "My Golden Egg"
C.3 (Boyz in the Sink): "Bellybutton Song" vs "A Mess Down in Egypt" vs "Bubble Rap"
Right Side:
A.1: "The Hairbrush Song" vs "The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo"
A.2: "Larry's High Silk Hat" vs "Supper Hero"
A.3: "I Love My Lips" vs "Sippy Cup"
A.4: "Schoolhouse Polka" vs "Kilts and Stilts"
B.1: "Song of the Cebu" vs "Pants"
B.2: "Pizza Angel" vs "Asteroid Cowboys"
B.3: "His Cheeseburger" vs "Goodnight Junior"
B.4: "Lance the Turtle" vs "Mac and Cheese"
C.1 (Bonus Pirates [Round 1 Pass]): "Do the Moo Shoo" vs "The Credits Song" vs "Rock Monster"
C.2: (Christmas [Round 1 Pass]): "Oh, Santa!" vs "The Eight Polish Foods of Christmas" vs "Wrapped Myself Up for Christmas"

NUPL Cebu Chapter on Twitter @nupl_cebu:
Press Release
Feb 25, 2024
The NUPL Cebu Chapter expresses its strongest condemnation over the killings of Hannah Jay Cesista and four other individuals, namely Domingo Compoc, Perlito Historia, Marlon Omosura, and Alberto Sancho in Bilar, Bohol, collectively known as Bilar 5.
An Iskolar ng Bayan, Hannah earned her Political Science degree from the UP Cebu. As a college student, she joined various organizations aligned with her principles and beliefs - Youth For Christ UP Cebu Chapter, Cebu Students for Justice and Peace, & Kabataan Partylist UP Cebu.
She then enrolled in the University of San Carlos (USC) to pursue a law degree. During her law school days, Hannah volunteered at NUPL Cebu and was instrumental in forming the law students’ arm of the Cebu Chapter.
NUPL Cebu members can attest to Hannah’s unwavering dedication and active involvement in the chapter’s activities in providing legal services to marginalized communities.
She was always the first person to volunteer when lawyers needed assistance in the countless legal work of the organization. She joined community visits for paralegal trainings & discussions on human rights despite the demands of law school. Hannah also passed the 2022 Bar Exams.
Numerous reports have circulated concerning an alleged “encounter” between the New People’s Army (NPA) and Philippine National Police (PNP) at Sitio Matin-ao 2, Barangay Campagao, Bilar, Bohol last February 23, 2024, Friday.
Contrary to law enforcement’s claims, initial reports received by NUPL Cebu show significant discrepancies and expose their possible commission of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) violations.
Several accounts support that no encounter has transpired. Instead, the five individuals were ordered to vacate the house where they were staying. The four men were forced to strip off their shirts. Along with Cesista, they were forced to roll in the mud.
The witnesses narrated that they were pleading with state forces to stop their inhumane acts but to no avail.
Killing Hannah and her companions is one of the many state-sanctioned efforts to harm activists, human rights workers, and dissenters- as part of their futile attempt to conceal the harsh realities of poverty and inequality in this country.
NUPL Cebu expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hannah. We call on the Philippine government to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation and to hold accountable the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of Bilar 5. Hustisya alang sa Bilar 5!
Long live Hannah Cesista! Long live Domingo Compoc! Long live Parlito Historia! Long live Marlon Omosura! Long live Alberto Sancho! Resume Peace Talks!

Trying to decide which events should I join next.
I’m thinking of doing the Laguna Loop Challenge 230 KM (Gravel Bike and MTB) on September 10 but I’m not sure if I’m ready for that kind of distance yet. The farthest I’ve ever cycled is 150 kms when I did the Taal Loop, plus at this point I only have less than 3 weeks to prepare. That said, there aren’t a lot of road races dedicated to gravel and mountain bikes so I’d like to take this opportunity to join a road race on my mountain bike.
If I do decide to join the Laguna Loop Challenge, then I wouldn’t be able to join either of these running events scheduled on September 17: the Mapanuepe Lake Zambales Trail Run or Pinoy Fitness Sub1 10K Challenge.
Skipping the Laguna Loop Challenge and choosing to run on September 17 poses another dilemma altogether: I like running in Zambales because of the breathtaking terrain, but the Sub1 10K Challenge will be held in Cebu so it’d be a nice opportunity to travel as well.
Another event on my radar is the Spartan Trail La Union which will be held on September 30 - October 1, but I am almost certain I won’t be joining this event because damn it’s just too expensive. 4,000 for the 21k distance is just too much.
Now here’s an event that’s pretty hard to pass up: the DBB Mountain Rockstar 2023 which will be held in Tanay, Rizal on October 15, 2023. I like joining races in Batangas and Rizal since they’re pretty accessible, which explains my choices for my past two races: the San Mateo Mountain Run and the Calatagan Trail Run.
I think the Z Ultra in Cawag, Subic will solve my September 10 / September 17 dilemma - joining this event would make me feel less bad about not being able to join the Mapanuepe Lake Zambales Trail Run, which in turn will make it easier to choose the Laguna Loop Challenge. Plus, the Z Ultra will give me the opportunity to finish something I started but did not finish last February: complete the Cawag Hexa.
Going by everything I just mentioned I think this schedule makes sense:
September 10 Laguna Loop Challenge
September 17 Mapanuepe Lake Zambales Trail Run
September 17 Pinoy Fitness Sub1 10K Challenge Cebu
September 30 Spartan Trail La Union
October 15 DBB Mountain Rockstar Tanay, Rizal
October 28 Z Ultra Cawag, Subic
I’ll do the Laguna Loop on September 10 then skip all the other events for that month to give me time to recover and prepare for the events in October. The gap between the Mountain Rockstar and the Z Ultra isn’t that bad either, if I play my cards correctly (and barring any untoward incident) the Mountain Rockstar (21k) will be my springboard for the longer Z Ultra (30k). Though if I have to choose just one between the two then I’ll go for the Z Ultra since I’ve already joined races in Rizal and Batangas this year.
Let’s do this!

Latest AirAsia data shows that 250,000 guests have already planned and booked their flights to the island for travel from February, March, April, and May. "Camotes Island"
The island group is located east of Cebu Island, southwest of Leyte Island, and north of Bohol Island. It is 34 nautical miles (63 km; 39 mi) from Cebu City and is part of Cebu. The Camotes Islands are located in the Camotes Sea, off the coast of the Province of Cebu. It is known for its crystal clear waters, extremely fine white sand, and the spectacular view of sunset that it offers.
There are many public beaches in Camotes that are easily accessible and equally beautiful but most of the time, they get a bit crowded. If you’re one of the people who are not big fans of huge crowds and busy islands, then the Tulang Diot Island in Camotes – Northern Cebu is the perfect getaway for you. For only ₱10 per head as an environmental fee, you will get to enjoy its pristine white sand and crystal clear water.
Tulang Diot Island: White Sand Beach In Camotes, Cebu
Tumblr media
Summer is the perfect time for beach hopping and dipping in the blue waters, that is why a lot of beach bums are looking for beaches most especially here in the Queen City of the South, the home of white sand beaches.
Tumblr media
and also you can play basketball for free.
Tumblr media
Tulang Diot Island is one of the most secluded and fantastic places to be. It is an islet with white beach and clear blue waters.
Paraiso Cave Camotes Island
Tumblr media
Further down the mouth of Paraiso Cave, a five-foot deep natural freshwater pool about a size of a badminton court awaits it's visitors. Concrete staircases with metal handrail and lamps were installed inside the cave for safer and easier descent. Trekking from the cave entrance down to the rocky freshwater pool takes less than five minutes.
Entrance of Paraiso Cave costs PHP 25. Use of their bathroom should anyone needs to heed the call of nature requires a fee of PHP 10, and PHP 50 should anyone wants to take a shower after bathing inside the cave.
Tumblr media
Timubo Cave Camotes Island
Tumblr media
Far from the well trimmed site Paraiso Cave, Timubo Cave lies in the middle of a farm deep beneath a corn field. Unlike Paraiso Cave, surroundings were not fenced making the cave almost inconspicuous, if not because of a shack where a lady collects the entrance fee of PHP 20 per guest and sells key chains as souvenir items. At the cave entrance, signage bearing cautions for entering the cave and a recountal of the cave's significance to the people of Barangay Sonog could be noticed.
Santiago White Beach Camotes
Santiago beach is a public beach. This beach, one of the famous beaches in Camotes, has the widest beach on the island. It’s not just a beach, it’s a white sand beach with a long shoreline that stretches as far as you can walk
Tumblr media
This public beach is under the management of Camotes Local Government Unit (LGU).
That’s right! This place is being managed by the local authorities and make sure that everybody keeps the beach clean and safe.
Tumblr media
Santiago beach is great for kids for swimming and playing since its shore is shallow.During low tide, you can walk on the sand bar as far as you want or play any games you can.
Certainly, Santiago beach is great for adults, especially for friends, family, and bigger groups. You have plenty of space to play in the water without disturbing other visitors.

"Masareal"
Tumblr media
A Filipino delicacy made from a mixture of finely-ground boiled peanuts and sugar. It is dried and cut into rectangular bars. It is traditionally sold wrapped in white paper. It originates from Mandaue, Cebu. The known makers of masareal in Mandaue are the Mana Acion's, Didangs and Ponsas brand.
Masareal has been always my favorite delicacy since I was a kid, back then everytime my grandmother would go for a shopping I always insisted on going with her just to buy a masareal. eating masareal has been always my enjoyment. Until now this snack is still my favorite it's my cravings everytime I feel sad or lonely this brings back good memories when I was a child.
The masareal is now known as a consistent snack without complex or confusing flavors. It always delivers that same rich flavor and can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere. Its convenient portioning also makes it appreciably quick to eat, so you can satisfy your cravings whenever.

7 PROVINCES IN 6 DAYS (Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Guimaras, Antique, and Capiz)
This trip was both exhausting and incredibly rewarding! I planned it for my 26th birthday. After six months of research, I finally created an itinerary that perfectly matched my flight schedule. Yes, I bought the plane tickets before finalizing the itinerary. I’m excited to share all the details with you—this will be VERY detailed!
Where to start?
I started my trip in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, for easier transportation. My flight was 7AM.
I booked a flight from Manila (MNL) to Dumaguete (DGT) with Cebu Pacific. My flight was originally scheduled for 7 AM, but there was a one-hour delay. Fortunately, my tour guide was very kind and waited for me at the airport.
Day 1: Dumaguete, Negros Oriental
9:30 AM: Arrive at Dumaguete–Sibulan Airport. 9:30 AM – 9:45 AM: Wait for my checked baggage. 9:45 AM – 10:00 AM: Freshen up at the airport. It’s a small airport with only two restrooms, so it was a bit crowded. 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Meet up with Kuya Thony for the Dumaguete-Valencia Tour. I was a bit shy at first because I was running late, but Kuya Thony was incredibly understanding. I had booked a solo tour with him two months in advance. Despite the rain throughout the tour, which I usually dislike, we pushed on and I eventually forgot about the weather.
Here are the places we visited on the tour, including the entrance fees:
Subida Souvenirs Cata-al Museum: Donation only Tierra Alta: PHP 100 per person, PHP 50 for parking Sulfur Vent: No entrance fee Pulangbato Falls: PHP 100 per person, free parking Redrock Hotspring: PHP 100 per person, free parking Forestcamp Resort: PHP 200 per person, PHP 30 for parking Chada Valencia: No entrance fee Dumaguete Signage: No entrance fee Rizal Boulevard: No entrance fee Cathedral: No entrance fee Silliman View: No entrance fee Sansrival Pasalubong: Depends on what you buy Monkey Sanctuary: No entrance fee. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see any monkeys because of the rain, though I spotted some in the distance on the mountains. Dove Feeding Plaza: No entrance fee, but you need to buy bird feed to attract the birds for photos. I opted for the larger feed, which cost PHP 50. 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM: Arrive at the hostel, Antwet Backpacker’s Inn & Rooftop Bar, for PHP 449.98 per night. After settling in and taking a bath, I headed out again at 7 PM. The hostel is conveniently located in front of the Negros Oriental Provincial Capitol.
I explored the area, took some pictures, and visited Rizal Boulevard, which was also part of the tour. Kuya Thony had mentioned it’s especially lively at night, and he was right—it was vibrant and full of energy.
Since I wasn’t very hungry, I looked for a café near the boulevard and found Tom N Toms Coffee. I ordered a mango yogurt smoothie for PHP 200. It was decent, and I spent about 30 minutes there before heading back to the hostel.
I prepared my things for Siquijor before sleeping.
Tumblr media
Day 2: Siquijor
I booked a fast craft ticket in advance via the Oceanjet website, which cost approximately PHP 750 for a round-trip ticket. I mistakenly thought that purchasing the ticket online meant I wouldn’t need to wait in line at the port. Unfortunately, I was wrong. First, there was a long line to get a physical ticket, and then another line for the terminal fee payment of PHP 15. It would be helpful if they included all fees on the website to streamline the process for tourists. I wasn’t the only one confused; many other travelers seemed to be in the same boat. The travel time is approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
There’s also a cheaper ferry option costing around PHP 400 round-trip, with a travel time of about 2 hours.
5:30 AM – 6:00 AM: Wake up and prepare. I was supposed to check out of the hostel and leave my luggage there, but the reception was unavailable. So, I ended up booking another night through the Agoda app. I couldn’t reach the property representative either.
6:00 AM – 6:30 AM: Breakfast at Jollibee, which is conveniently located near the hostel.
6:30 AM – 6:40 AM: Head to the Port of Dumaguete. Remember to bring a valid ID, as it’s required for entry.
6:40 AM – 7:00 AM: Wait in line to get a physical ticket and pay the terminal fee.
7:00 AM – 7:20 AM: Wait for departure.
7:20 AM – 7:30 AM: Boarding. One thing I love about Oceanjet is their punctuality—they’re always on time!
7:30 AM – 8:15 AM: Fast craft ride from Dumaguete to Siquijor.
8:30 AM: Meet my tour guide, Kuya Dehm, outside the terminal. Although he wasn’t the guide I initially booked, everything went smoothly during the tour!
8:30 AM – 5:00 PM: Siquijor Tour—an action-packed day exploring the island. Here are the places we visited, along with their entrance fees:
Welcome to Siquijor: Free, located just outside the port
Saint Francis of Assisi: No entrance fee
Paliton Beach: No entrance fee; donation requested for photo ops by locals
Pitugo Cliff: PHP 30, plus PHP 30 for parking
Old Enchanted Balete Tree: PHP 20
Hapitanan Broom Shot: No entrance fee; donation requested for photo ops by locals
Lazi Church: No entrance fee
Lazi Convent: No entrance fee
Cambugahay Falls: PHP 20, plus PHP 30 for parking
Molave Man-Made Forest: No entrance fee
Salagdoong Beach: PHP 50 entrance fee, plus PHP 20 for parking
Cang-Isok Old House: No entrance fee; only for sightseeing, as you cannot enter
Lilibeth Pan Bisaya
Kuya Dehm and I parted ways at exactly 5:15 PM outside the port where we initially met. The Siquijor port is more convenient than Dumaguete’s. I just showed my e-ticket and paid the terminal fee. Although there were plenty of tourists, the line moved surprisingly fast. I waited until 6:00 PM.
6:00 PM – 6:15 PM: Boarding.
6:15 PM – 7:10 PM: Fast craft ride from Siquijor to Dumaguete. This was the most terrifying hour of my life—the weather was cold, the craft was fast, and the waves were huge due to the rain. It felt like a roller coaster ride. The woman sitting next to me said the rough ride was normal, though the waves were higher than usual. After this nerve-wracking journey, I took a tricycle back to the hostel. The caretaker was very kind and said it was no problem to leave my things in the room, even suggesting I shouldn’t have booked another night as it was unnecessary.
I checked out at 9:00 PM and headed to the Ceres Bus Terminal for the 10:00 PM bus to Bacolod. To my surprise, the only available bus was an ordinary one. The conductor advised me to wait for the 1:00 AM air-conditioned bus, which would be more comfortable.
In the midst of it all, I forgot to have dinner on my birthday! I quickly took a tricycle to Bazinga Dumaguete, where I enjoyed a burger and fries combo for PHP 200. It was delicious! I stayed there until 11:30 PM and then returned to the terminal, where I almost missed the bus.
1:00 AM: The bus departed for Bacolod. I slept throughout the journey to save time and hotel expenses.
Tumblr media
Day 3: Bacolod, Negros Occidental and Iloilo
I arrived in Bacolod at 6:00 AM and had breakfast at a carinderia next to the terminal—one rice and hotdog for just PHP 35, plus a free soup!
Since it was too early for the museum and The Ruins, I decided to explore the area:
7:00 AM – 7:45 AM: I took a tricycle to the Plaza, which was only a 3-minute ride, but the driver asked for PHP 200. I was unsure and ended up paying him. I took a leisurely stroll around the plaza and visited the following attractions:
Bacolod Plaza Bandstand Welcome to Bacolod City arch City of Smiles San Sebastian Church 7:45 AM – 8:15 AM: Enjoyed coffee at Dunkin’.
8:15 AM – 8:50 AM: Walked to Capitol Park and Lagoon.
8:50 AM – 9:45 AM: Visited The Negros Museum.
9:45 AM – 10:40 AM: Took a Grab to The Ruins, but unfortunately, it was closed for an event.
10:40 AM – 11:30 AM: Headed to Manokan Country and had lunch at Aida’s Chicken. The chicken inasal was decent.
11:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Stopped by SM City Bacolod, which is conveniently located just in front.
12:00 PM – 12:15 PM: Walked to Bacolod Port and waited until my departure at 1:00 PM.
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Arrived in Iloilo, took a tricycle to my hotel, and checked in.
2:20 PM: Arrived at the hotel, which was quite old and lacked an elevator. My room was on the third floor, so I rested until 4:00 PM before continuing my tour.
4:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Started a walking tour around Iloilo:
Calle Real Sunburst Park Plaza Libertad 4:30 PM – 4:45 PM: Commute to La Paz Market by bus with a La Paz signboard.
4:45 PM – 6:00 PM: Had an early dinner:
Netong’s Original Special La Paz Batchoy Madge Coffee, the oldest coffee shop in Iloilo 6:00 PM – 6:15 PM: Took a bus to Jaro with a Jaro signboard.
6:15 PM – 7:00 PM: Explored Jaro:
Jaro Plaza Graciano Lopez Jaena Park Campanario de Jaro Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral 7:00 PM – 7:20 PM: Returned to Iloilo City Proper.
7:20 PM: Arrived back at the hotel.
I must say, Iloilo City has an excellent transportation system. Buses seem to go everywhere, which is very convenient. Plus, the hotel I booked is located in the city center, making it easy to get around.
Day 4: Guimaras
6:00 AM – 6:30 AM: Prepare to head to the port.
6:30 AM – 6:50 AM: Travel from the hotel to Parola Wharf. Advanced booking isn’t necessary. There are various fast crafts available, with fares ranging from PHP 15 to PHP 30 one way. I chose the PHP 30 option because it’s air-conditioned.
7:00 AM – 7:20 AM: Ride the fast craft from Parola Wharf to Jordan Wharf.
7:20 AM – 4:00 PM: Met my tour guide, Kuya Ryan, and we started the tour right away. Here are the sites we visited:
Jordan Signages: No entrance fee.
Smallest Plaza: No entrance fee.
Windmills and Man-Made Forest: PHP 30 entrance fee, PHP 20 parking fee.
Pitstop Restaurant (for Mango Pizza): I was skeptical, but it turned out to be surprisingly good! Free parking.
Guimaras Signages: Free parking.
Trappist Monastery: Free parking; donation requested for candles.
Guisi Lighthouse: PHP 30 entrance fee, PHP 20 parking fee.
4:00 PM – 4:20 PM: Travel back from Jordan Wharf to Parola Wharf.
4:20 PM – 4:40 PM: Return to the hotel to freshen up.
5:00 PM – 5:25 PM: Commute to Molo Plaza.
5:25 PM – 6:30 PM: Relax and explore Molo Plaza—there’s so much to see and do!
6:30 PM – 6:45 PM: Return to the hotel by riding a bus bound to Iloilo City proper.
6:45 PM – 7:30 PM: Prepare for bed and get ready for the trip to Antique.
Tumblr media
Day 5: Antique
I woke up before my alarm and quickly got ready to start the day.
5:00 AM: Wake up.
5:15 AM – 5:45 AM: Prepare for the trip to Antique.
5:45 AM – 6:15 AM: Walk to the public market behind Robinsons Place Iloilo. I needed to catch a jeepney with the “Mohon Terminal” signage. I was a bit anxious about commuting since there weren’t many clear instructions online. Thankfully, the hotel receptionist kindly advised me to head to the back of Robinsons Place Iloilo and wait for the right jeepney.
6:15 AM: Arrived at Mohon Terminal. I was initially confused because the only bus there was headed to Kalibo. Fortunately, I asked the driver, who confirmed that the bus would pass by Anini-y, Antique, my destination. I boarded the bus to Kalibo but informed the driver to drop me off in Antique.
6:30 AM – 8:30 AM: Travel from Mohon Terminal to Siraan Hot Spring and Health Resort in Anini-y, Antique.
8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Enjoyed relaxing at Siraan Hot Spring and Health Resort. The sulfur hot spring was wonderful, and the resort’s cliffside location offered stunning views. I would have loved to stay overnight, but I had other tours planned.
12:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Headed back to the hotel. I waited for a bus bound for Iloilo outside the resort. The bus dropped me off at Mohon Terminal, where I caught a ride back to Iloilo City proper.
2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Freshened up at the hotel and then prepared for an Iloilo City tour.
3:30 PM – 3:45 PM: Took a bus with a “La Paz” sign from Iloilo City. This bus also passed by the museums.
3:45 PM – 6:00 PM: Explored the museums:
Museo Iloilo
National Museum Western Visayas Regional Museum (This one was particularly interesting; it was converted from an old prison into a museum.)
Both museums are conveniently located side by side.
6:00 PM – 6:20 PM: Rode the bus back to Iloilo City proper and stopped at Robinsons Place Iloilo for dinner.
6:20 PM – 6:45 PM: Dined at JD Bakery Café. I tried their Molo soup, which was decent.
6:45 PM – 7:30 PM: Strolled around Robinsons Place and nearly forgot to buy pasalubong. Luckily, there was a Biscocho Haus kiosk nearby!
7:30 PM – 7:40 PM: Returned to the hotel.
7:40 PM – 8:00 PM: Prepared for the trip to Capiz and then went to sleep.
Tumblr media
Day 6: Capiz
I woke up extra early to prepare my check-in baggage. I had bought a bit too much biscocho and butterscotch, so I needed the extra time.
4:00 AM: Wake up.
4:00 AM – 5:30 AM: Prepare for Capiz and check out. I left my luggage at the hotel lobby before heading out.
5:30 AM – 6:00 AM: Went to the back of Robinsons Place again to wait for a jeepney bound for Jaro, as it would pass by Ceres Northbound Terminal.
6:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Traveled from Ceres Northbound Terminal to Roxas City Integrated Transport Terminal. There was light traffic, and we made a 15-minute stop in Passi City.
9:30 AM – 10:00 AM: From Roxas City Integrated Transport Terminal to Roxas City Plaza.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Explored the city. Here are the places I visited:
Roxas City Plaza
Manuel A. Roxas Monument
Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Capiz)
Capiz Provincial Capitol
Ang Panublion Museum
Pres. Manuel A. Roxas Ancestral House
I initially planned to visit The Edge, but it was an hour away, and traffic was heavy.
12:00 PM – 12:15 PM: Took a tricycle back to the Integrated Transport Terminal.
12:15 PM – 4:00 PM: Travelled from the Integrated Transport Terminal to Ceres Northbound Terminal in Iloilo.
4:00 PM – 4:30 PM: From Ceres Northbound Terminal to the hotel in Iloilo. I took a jeepney bound for Iloilo City proper.
4:30 PM – 5:00 PM: I had planned to book a Grab to the Iloilo Airport, but fortunately, I found a couple of travelers also heading to the airport. The hotel offered a transfer service that was much cheaper—PHP 150 compared to the PHP 500 Grab fare.
5:00 PM – 5:45 PM: Transferred from the hotel to Iloilo Airport.
5:45 PM – 6:00 PM: Checked in.
My flight was originally scheduled for 7:30 PM, but as usual, there was a delay. We ended up boarding at 9:40 PM. You know there’s a delay when you see a Jollibee box at the gate!
10:00 PM – 11:15 PM: Flew from Iloilo to Manila.

Overall, this trip was the most expensive and exhausting journey I’ve ever undertaken, but it proved to be profoundly fulfilling. The Visayas region, with its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, particularly Dumaguete, has truly captured my heart. Dumagueteños are some of the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve ever met. Their warmth and hospitality made every moment of the trip memorable and worthwhile.
Despite the challenges, such as navigating the various transportation options and managing expenses, the experience was enriching. From the breathtaking natural beauty to the rich cultural experiences, every aspect of the trip added value to my journey. The sense of community and the genuine kindness of the locals left a lasting impression on me.
If I ever decide to settle down or retire, Dumaguete will undoubtedly be at the top of my list. Its charm, combined with the incredible people and the serene environment, makes it a perfect place for a future home. The memories and experiences from this trip have cemented my affection for this wonderful region, and I look forward to returning someday.

there is a special type of guilt that comes with the feeling of letting time pass by. the second half of the year officially begins and the summer days continue to fade and turn into muddy skies of blue. the july sun is a different shade of orange, one that glistens against the rusty sandayong that covers the neighbor's home in the slums of pasil, but i can tell you that it doesn't shimmer like may does. i've been trying to write since february, since the last time the thought of what could have been crossed my mind. it seems i have forgotten my own name, the one that your tongue easily curved around. i try to find the courage to say it again but i find that i now prefer to take the passenger side of jeepneys instead of hailing angkas rides.
the beach trips haven't been the same since i was ten. i remember the joys of spending half the day under the heat of the sun and in the cool of cebu's beaches. the other half would be spent riding waves in the car and letting the comments about my suntanned skin come in one ear and out the other. the time spent scrubbing the brown away with a bar of silka and a farm grown loofa has turned into being perched on an orocan chair on the shores of bantayan island with a book i've been trying to read since the summer of 2022. i do hope i don't come off as pretentious. it's been a long time since my mind has given me grace. sometimes i feel guilty about the shells i take from the beach.
it's july. franz kafka's diary entry on the 2nd of july was just the word 'Sad'. i don't know how to feel exactly, but i do hope it isn't that. i think i've lost way too much of my life because i was sad. the second half of the year is here and i've grown since the last time i walked across the stage to receive a piece of paper with my name on it. the time has passed since the last time a medal looped itself around my neck and i'm thinking of getting my new id picture taken tomorrow. maybe even get my new uniform fitted. i can't lose too much time anymore! maybe tomorrow when i look at myself in the mirror, i won't be too bothered by the kinkiness of my hair. or by the things i don't have.

2023 HIGHLIGHTS
Half of the year has passed and it's just now that I had the time and energy to do my 2023 highlights 😅 Lol better late than never! I'm doing this anyway for archive and memories when I look back and reminisce those times 🤍
Drag Race PH S1 Stars in Cebu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally met the queens from Drag Race Philippines Season 1 - Minty Fresh, Eva Le Queen, and Lady Morgana! They were all so beautiful and stunning! From their makeup, costumes, to their performances, they all SLAYED! Queens from the local Cebu drag scene also surprised us with their wow-mazing performances especially Letina Lyccah's performance. Lip syncing Alexia's Happy while throwing and giving out products named "Happy" to the audience was the best!!! (I got Happy peanuts lol). Such an entertainment to enjoy Sinulog night with some of the most famous drag queens in the country.
Spring Vacation in South Korea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Savored what was left of spring when we visited South Korea last year. Wrote more about this memorable trip in four South Korea 2023 blog posts hihi
Honne Concert
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn't just a Honne concert. It was Honne + Beka !!! Crying Over You is my favorite Honne song, so to witness them perform it with Beka made it all the more complete as if I'm listening it in Spotify but BETTER. The end of their concert tho with those visuals made us 🥺🥺🥺 (iykyk). Enjoyed the concert so much especially that I was with the company of my friends who I hadn't seen for a while hehe.
Turned a year older
Tumblr media
This was a sad birthday because I was not able to enjoy it as much as I would have wanted to. Failed to enjoy the moment when I had a short dinner with my family because I had to go back to school immediately for a rehearsal :( My birthday fell within Intrams + Cookout week so acads and org life was just very hectic :/
Oh well, the world does not stop for me. I turned 22 last year. But wasn't feeling it just like Taylor Swift. It was Nothing New > 22, if you know what I mean.
My First Internship
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summer who? We don't know her! We only know internship!! Last academic year was wild and hectic because we only had a one-week break from second sem and immediately transitioned to being interns. Honestly, I've never legit worked before so this internship was somewhat my first work experience. For a month I mostly did marketing collaterals for an HR management system they developed.
I really wanted my first work experience to be in an organization that's not toxic and stifling. Looking back, I'm glad that I had my internship in MYT because everyone was so welcoming and approachable. We always had free lunch and snacks, and we also joined in their foundation's outreach program on our last day. I love that they also give back to the community and sponsor scholars.
I was also able to sit down and talk to the founders of the company and learned so much from them as well as my growth here. I'm so grateful for the experience because I also learned so much especially with being resourceful on how I can create marketing collaterals with the resources available (thank you Canva for making video animation and editing possible and easier! haha).
Exploring the City of Smiles
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Visited Bacolod with the fam! Went to The Ruins, Campuestohan Highland Resort, Ilaya Highland Resort, etc etc (only a few we could fit in our sched). And of course we indulged in their most known delicacies - Eron's Cansi, Calea's cakes, Napoleones from Merzci (+ other brands actually), BongBong's Piaya, Chicken Inasal in Manokan Country, (Bar) 21's Batchoy, and brunch and pastries at Cafe Bobs! We indulged in more food than places so this was a food trip haha happy tummy = happy Andie!
Mayday Parade's 2nd Concert in Cebu
Tumblr media
Three Cheers for Five Years since they last played in Cebu for the first time in 2019. That time they promised to be back. Five years later, they kept their promise. Mayday Parade, thank you for accompanying my emotional masochist ass when I was in high school (oahverrr). I'll always be an emo kid 🖤
Performed in a Musical Play
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a wannabe musical actress, I took the opportunity to perform in a short and sweet musical play competition representing our university. We won and were headed for nationals yayyyy
I was really excited when they chose me to be in the musical because that time, I was not able to deliver a lot of acting performances in my org. I couldn't say that I was that good in acting. But to be feeling (lol), I was kinda confident in my singing since I grew up listening and singing to Disney and musical songs. So this was my chance to do what I love.
It was my first musical play (and a competition at that), but playing in a musical in front of a large audience kinda excites the theater kid in me 🥰 (Broadway and West End, I know you're too far, but a girl can dream HAHA LOL)
Last year was very busy and hectic tbh so these were the highlights that I can remember BUT there's so much learning and growth that happened that year. Gratefulness for everything is just pouring everywhere despite the sad and overwhelming days <3 Thank you, 2023! 🌟
Love,
Andie

hdakfhjs.note, a love letter to humss12d batch 2023-2024 / closing remarks to the sugbuhi documentary festival as we finish out creative nonfiction.
there is a misconception that writing creative nonfiction is traumadumping. that its talking about our worst experiences, projecting it onto our readers, and making them carry our burden, and that it's a dead and moot genre of literature that isn't as interesting to read and write like poetry and fiction and plays. no one will write creative nonfiction, no one reads creative nonfiction, no one even reads creative nonfiction! what for do i have to tell you how i know my parents hate me in such a dramatic fashion?
the department of education curriculum guide described the subject creative nonfiction in this manner: Focusing on formal elements and writing techniques, including autobiography and blogging, among others, the subject introduces the students to the reading and writing of Creative Nonfiction as a literary form. The subject develops in students skills in reading, and thinking critically and creatively, that will help them to be imaginative readers and writers.
what the deped and your nonchalant mindsets miss about the genre, sir jason and i had to take on the gargantuan burden of meeting: how do we reconcile the demands of teaching a loaded subject to a student body going through senioritis, and how do we mold you to write what you know from the heart, ergo, to write oa?
we had to go back to the basics and build up. throughout the midterms we had to rehash what you knew from CW on figurative language for poetry and fiction, and the elements of a plot to tell your personal stories. as my first ever creative nonfiction mentor johanna michelle lim said to me at the cebu young writers' studio, "to write creative nonfiction is easier than poetry. there is no form. there is no rhyme. there are no rules, just write."
but while for most of you the act of writing in a literary manner is as natural as breathing, formulaic, almost, sir jason and i realized a challenge as your teachers and you as budding nonfictionists. we had to work against a heavier thing that barred you from truly writing your best nonfiction piece, something sir jason and i could not feed you, something you had to resolve yourself that you yourselves also acknowledged: it's your fear to get naked.
Unlike your Grade 11 subjects COMM01: Oral Communication in Context or ENG01: English for Academic and Professional Purposes, where every sentence required a source in order to persuade your audience that this is a real phenomenon, we had to work reestablish you to get in touch with your emotions. in creative writing, you could worldbuild, rhyme to your heart's content and hide your hurt in between the lines.
but creative nonfiction is looser, more open, you are allowed. oa is valid. reflection is valid, and over the sem we worked to understand that.
as I said in a module i wrote for this subject, and i quote: this kind of writing requires a high level of maturity and reflectiveness as it requires you to think deeply about what you have experienced, the culture of the community you live in, and make observations about it. It is no longer about providing sources for every single sentence you write. Through the seamless weaving our opinions shine through in a frank description of what our reality looks like. As HUMSS students, we already have the background to write for this subgenre of nonfiction, as we are closest to the 'katilingban'.
some of you might not have been ready to be mature or naked, but had to catch up in the challenge of taking this class. as you pass the midterm, you are then exposed to how your writing, while talking about you, is no longer JUST about you. now validated in what you have observed about the katilingban, you were then enjoined to participate in the rudimentary simulation of the creative writing workshop, through the blind critique. you were each other's panel through the annotation activities we did weekly, and you wrote critical responses on the essays your peers produced and got critiqued back to reconsider your choices in your work. the nakedness in creative nonfiction is not just in the fighting back against what tim kreider calls the "mortifying ordeal of being known". we had to allow ourselves to be poked at in order to become beautiful, and to write beautiful.
we then began work on the ethics of creative nonfiction and how that affects the writing of literary journalism, where everything from its elements to the language use came together to depict a person you have so admired in both the making of these documentaries and to write for this prestigious genre.
a writer is stereotyped as a disheveled shut-in, alone, in a dark room, dark rimmed eyes and stacks of empty cups of coffee on a coffee-stained table, writing nonstop with the curtains drawn so shut he can no longer tell if it is day or night. in a letter that i wrote to palanca awardee omar khalid, i said, while writing is a one-man act, it should be done with the presence of like-minded friends and seniors to spur you on to continue and do better [...] the people [...] showed me what a ‘writer’s rehabilitation’ could look like. like my former professor dr cindy velasquez said in one of the shortlisted documentaries and aligned with the carolinian core values, writing is a social responsibility, for the preservation of culture. you are with the katilingban. this, right now, is your writing rehabilitation: you write for the katilingban. so you must join the katilingban to write about the katilingban.
humss d has qr codes outside linking to their cnf ebooks, where they have compiled their best essays and the biographical profiles of their documentary subject. these are free, and the fruit of our sweet labor over this semester drafting, critiquing, and revising, contributing to the quietly loud field of creative nonfiction, naked and beautiful.
and with this culminating performance task, we finally conclude the litessay: creative nonfiction. congratulations not just to the winners, but to you, each and everyone. you have truly grasped not just the technicalities of creative nonfiction, but what it truly means to be beautifully naked.
people who are not interested in cebuano literature say cebuano lit is dead. how loud the outsiders are, how downplayed we may be, with you finishing CW, CNF, and hopefully graduating from humss, sylvia plath was right: "little or nothing. so many of us, so many of us! we shall by morning inherit the earth. our foot's in the door." writers, congratulations, and welcome to the cebuano literary scene.
