Gong Gong Bang Bang Yeah Yeah Ow
What an interesting moment in my life. I am coming out the other side of being SO sick… like the weirdest cold that wen so hard and I couldn’t even think about all that is happening right now unless I was being explicitly talked to about it. Like, if someone was saying directly to my face what is happening right now or what is the answer to this question, I could answer but if left to my own devices, dead space. I am happy to be coming out the other end, as I hope that is what is happening and I won’t wake tomorrow to some new phase.
I talked before about following my gut and quitting my job which I have done. Every so often, the powers that be send you a little pat on the back action and I am happy to announce that I have been hired to work remotely for my old department at MGH and I am so excited because I get to live near my family AND work the job that I put so much energy into. When my boss emailed wanting to chat and we talked, I couldn’t believe that I had been wondering what I was going to do next for work and here is this opportunity and it goes to show you that taking a leap, even if you don’t 100% know what is going to happen but you feel it is right is worth it. I know that I have often felt a little jaded by those who say that because we live in a world that almost feels like it doesn’t allow for that type of jump anymore. And I know I’ve not jumped and started a bakery or something but I still feel terrific about the fact that I left a situation that was not sustainable and did so because I felt like it was correct for me and my health and life, and a situation I did not plan to come up did and was so perfect. This is a also a testament, I think, to working hard and building relationships because I know that my old department missed me as much as I missed them and that is because of the hard work we’ve done together.
I am excited about this new chapter. I know not everything is perfect…. I had wanted to start juicing the first week in January and, viola, my fridge is broken…. seriously. I had planned to move to my parents in a couple weeks and, viola, all three of us a sick with the demon cold and they have had zero time to pull together the house the way we need and I think it was too many things all at once (new job, new year, Dad’s knee surgery, demon illness, moving….) so I am going to get started on the new job here in Alexandria and then move in March or April. But I know that 2014 is going to be a marathon not a sprint…. you like that? I have many goals that are all very important to me and I feel inside of me a renewed sense of energy and hopefulness and joy and I seek to have some real spontaneous joy and fun this year and I know that the only way I can do that is by getting out there and not hiding anymore. It will be a challenge. I began hiding a long time ago, it feels like, when life went one toke over the line for me and I could only deal with my own head, let alone, input from other people. But I feel lifted. It is so ridiculous, maybe it isn’t, to feel lifted by getting your old job back… hahahahaha. But I feel courageous right now. Like I might be able to show up for myself in some ways I haven’t been able to in a while. Stop hiding in my hobbit hole.
Very exciting news. Now to find a new, pretty desk for my living room which will now become my office…!!! Yay to 2014 so far.

Here's a video and live recording I made with my friend Ed whilst I was home a few weeks ago. It's me doing an acoustic cover of Ce Ce Penniston's 90s hit and you can download the mp3 audio file here: soundcloud.com/mattbaxteruk/finally-live-1
It was all done in my friends shed/garage with and due to some technical difficulties I could only use one mic but it turned out pretty good!
You can also have a listen to the original song here: youtu.be/7DZkuz4uSNo
