edee are very much confused why all the alphas excluding 17 are so old. but in the way that they just make fun of six for being old. fox is the loudest about it and they suspect most aware that he's trolling. neyo too. colt is preoccupied. gree is just as loud but actuallly genuine about the why.

six is oscillating between "omg my babies are babies and happy and free ans i'll give them anything and everything" to " if these little assholes call me old one more time i'm throwing them in the ocean". also give him a break he has like 9 4 year olds to take care of. excluding the shebse his twins carry around like teddy bears. but they all cuddle pile at the end of the night and he not so secretly loves it.

17 goes hunting with the alphas and they're slightly emo about seeing a young alpha being free on cd "we're not crying its dust in our eyes"

rex is kinda confused as to ponds being so silent but not complaining. he very much enjoys carrying him around when baby fox gets too tired holding him. also the one embarrasing thing he does is dress them up in frilly outfits and take family pics (really this is payback for adult ponds who'll love them, if you've seen catawampuscorner's baby clones in animal onesies series think that, baby ponds also loves this)

fox follows rex or 17 around when he's not carrying ponds because thats hilarious. rex is somehow unnerved by baby fox. baby fox knows this.

bacara is fully sceptical/scared at first, they're not sure if it's because he doesn't remember anyone/anything or his baby personality is just like that (fuck davin). at first he sticks by neyo who can talk for him but seeing neyo trust six latches onto six too who's really nice to bacara. him and rex bond a little later on because it's the strongest memory he has from adult bacara and rex seems nice baby bacara thinks ( he is he gives him hugs and chocolate and doesn't seem to mind bacara not talking or having an accent when he does and can understand him pretty well. he even knows jp mando'a!). also fenn checks up and seems cool for a jp which is very confusing but he takes him to the jp training centers and to the novas and baby bacara has a grand old time. (imagine the novas with baby marine commander he'd feel so much love. they just finished making like a giant bouncy castle training course for the littles and baby bacara gets to test it. they rope keller into it too)

bly also wants to go exploring but noone trusts him to not get into some trouble so he gets distracted with puzzles, gree joins him when he's done and tells him all about cd. later aayla steals him away and they go on an adventure

I used to twist my ankle on the reg and have to wrap it and like use crutches for a day, but I’ve never had any real serious injury. I skinned my knee in Japan in high school, and that was pretty memorably unfortunate because we went swimming in the sea like hours later and it was excruciatingly painful, but worth it, because swimming in warm sea water has got to be one of the weirdest experiences, coming off of life in the Pacific Northwest where the ocean is always super cold.

I’ve officially dropped Love Heaven, because this blog is all about me getting the shiny pictures and Love Heaven just wasn’t doing it for me. So for the first half of November I thought I’d start up a new game, which you can probably tell by this tumblr’s new avatar: iM@S SideM’s rhythm game, LIVE ON ST@GE!

…in case you’re new and just joining me on this ride, I hate smartphone rhythm games.

This isn’t my first go-round with iM@S testosterone-filled half. I’ve played the base mobage, and for proper iM@S mobage overload, was juggling it at the same time as Cinderella Girls & Million Live!

Turns out that’s the easiest way to hit iM@S burnout.

Mobage’s games had the clunky interface where you always had to push a button, so between that and having MILLIONS OF CHARACTERS (Cinderella Girls this is all your fault), the shift over to GREE’s Million Live! was super easy, because it was easier to get more invested in 50 girls whose songs I genuinely enjoyed. RIP GREEmas. Of course, this was before 876 realized there was so much more profit they could be making and commercialized the shit out of everything.

Anyway, what my point actually is is that while I’ve got some familiarity with these characters already, I’m not too invested in them. Spoiler: This is a lie. Also, I’ve never listened to the music, which is a huuuuuge plus for when you play a rhythm game, let me tell you. Not!Spoiler: I’m terrible at sarcasm.

The game starts you off nice and easy on the characters, showing you its different units and asking you to pick one for your tutorial-focus card. I appreciate this so much more than UtaPri SL’s randomized method, where all I wanted was to level up Ren and the game insisted I pick Tokiya. Gimme my Suwabe voice, dammit.

On the off chance you aren’t already familiar with the game characters, you also get to see a profile before you lock yourself into a choice. All the characters of SideM were scouted from other jobs, and Shinonome here is a former pâtissier. All the groups have themes revolving around their former jobs; for example, Cafe Parade’s members are all employees at the same struggling cafe, and they became an idol group to try and promote it.

The game also draws four other idols for you because you’re running in groups of five. One of the other ones I got was convenience store worker Kyoji, who’s actually another one of my favorites. (If you’re thinking he looks kind of homely here, he gets better.) His group, Beit, consists of people who were formerly just doing part-time jobs. If there’s one thing I greatly appreciate about SideM, it’s that the theming permeates everything, but it doesn’t feel too shoehorned in.

Gameplay is simple. There are short story bits to read through, with missions if you choose to complete them (to get those sweet sweet premium gacha M-Star points), and then you get to the production part, where you get 6-8 days to put your idols into activities and raise those motivation gauges to 100%. I’m leaving out details here and there, but this isn’t a “how to play x” post, this is a “I’m pretending people on the Internet care about my opinions” post. For a “How to Play” I’m gonna direct you over to this fan tumblr instead.

I cannot lie, this is my favorite part because of its management & math puzzle nature. There’ve been a few times in the two days I’ve been playing this game where I don’t manage to max out everyone’s meter because of poor planning and we don’t talk about those times. So far events seem to focus more on this side of gameplay, which I also greatly appreciate - but in all fairness, I’ve been playing this game for all of two days and I’ve only played the one event.

In regular production mode, after you finish the above you always move on to a live session, which is, of course, the rhythm game part. It’s a rhythm game where everything flows towards one point that you tap, and you can unlock more songs by leveling up. I don’t know what more I can say about the gameplay. iM@S knows its name brand is staked on being able to see these performances, so every iM@S rhythm game includes the dancing clips. I started SM LoS after they implemented MV mode too, which is great because I always get sidetracked trying to watch these while playing.

Oh, I guess there’s also a “Performance” part where you pick a guy or two and they strike poses. Let’s talk about the music instead. I’ve played enough at this point to unlock most of the songs it comes with, which are the group songs, and they’re basically what you’d expect…? I’m grumpy and like songs more for auditory pleasure than character affection at this point, so while they’re not earsplitting to listen to during the part where you absolutely have to listen to them, I’m not going to be chasing down the CDs either.

I do like that the character models are unique. For example, the muscles on Seiji’s arms are a very different shape than the sleeves on Kyoji and Shinonome’s outfits. The quality’s a little choppy compared to Theater Days, but MLTD has put all their efforts into the animation movements because it’s in everything - story, rhythm game, greeting screen. For LoS, you can only really tell when I take screencaps like here, and all the other images are 2D.

Speaking of the other images, other than performances, all the images are 2D, so Sogabe Shuuji’s designs still get to shine. Makes me just a little more excited to scout for event cards because of all the special outfits.

Probably my major gripes with this game so far are the stamina system and gacha points. It takes 40 stamina for a regular produce when you max out at 100 - but I think it’s the game’s way of trying to balance you into playing the rhythm part too, which uses a different energy currency (LP). It has been throwing loads of stamina replenishing items at me so far, so I’ll overlook it, but that limitation makes it too easy to run out too fast. You can play for maybe 7 minutes and then you have to wait for it to fill up again? Boo.

As for gacha points, this game, like all good gacha games, has two gacha currencies: Producer Points (the P sparkles), which serve as the free points, and M-Stars (…the M stars), which are the premium currency. There’s no discounts for 10-Scouts, which is unfortunate but livable. But Producer Points are also how you quick-level up your cards to do better in appeals/lives, as opposed to slowly gaining experience from lives. So I can draw an SR card I really want to keep in regular rotation, but maybe my R cards are doing better stat-wise, and that means I’ll have to sacrifice gacha rolls to squeeze them on my team.
