Written in the Stars
Star Tales: North American Indian Stories is retold and illustrated by Gretchen Will Mayo (b. 1936) and published in 1987 by Walker & Co. in New York. After getting a journalism degree and a teaching certificate, Mayo attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design from 1982 to 1984 and earned her MFA from Vermont College. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and in 1987, she received several awards and honors, including the Original Children’s Book Art Award and Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) Choice for Star Tales. Mayo has lived and worked in the Milwaukee area for many years.
For this book, Mayo, known for her children’s books, retells Native American stories related to the stars. Her work beautifully bridges cultural heritage and imagination, making her a cherished voice in children’s literature. Her illustrations enhance the enchantment of these celestial narratives, allowing one to imagine constellations coming alive with myth and magic.

'YA Novels' don't really exist, as someone who works in the industry there is virtually no difference between new adult, young adult, and general adult novels, originally YA was considered a way of describing bildungsroman novels that are specifically about teenagers (notably not young ADULTS, but adolescents), for this categorization think along the lines of 'Little Women', 'Anne of Green Gables', ect...
But as time went on the genre (yes, genre), began to specify and to age up, you can see a major shift during the post-WW2 years, with the genre becoming more masculine and aging up to mid and elder teenagers, you can see this with darker novels like 'The Catcher in the Rye', now if you're an avid reader like me, you're probably familiar with how diverse the YA sub-genres are, which is a newer development that I, a fallible amateur historian, will place in the early 2000s, this is also when the genre began once again to become particularly feminine, by which I mean that the fan bases where predominantly women, the writers were predominantly women, and the subjects were particularly 'feminine', flawed as that categorization is. This is also when YA became somewhat synonymous with romance, even in books that are widely believed not to have needed it, such as 'The Hunger Games' (though romance used as metaphor in dystopian YA is something I could write a doctoral thesis on)
By the 2010s, YA was no longer a useful genre label, with books no longer dealing with teen and young adult issues, sure, some 'YA' books dealt with the aforementioned YA issues, but they were typically grouped in with 'contemporary YA', which was generally indistinguishable from adult literary novels, for example: both 'The Book Thief' and 'A Little Life' have been labelled as YA during their years of publication, they are far from the only examples of this phenomenon of arbitrary categorization based on 'reading level', which in itself is not a useful categorization, particularly for people who read outside of a school environment, as a book like 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' might be considered of a 'higher' reading level given that it's older, but when it comes to complexity of theme and plot, it falls far behind some 'YA' novels like, for example, 'Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe'
All of this is to say, 'YA' is an arbitrary label that can, in many instances, be a way to demean a group of books that, broadly according to reports from the CCBC, tend to be trending upward in diversity, and a readership / writership that tends to be overwhelmingly female-identifying, according to the Atlantic, of NPR's 256 top YA novels 63% were written by women, whereas according to WordsRated.com, only 50.45% of authors generally were women in 2021.
Conclusion:
YA is a pretty unhelpful label, and seems to be a scapegoat for literary elitists to project biases onto fellow readers both consciously and unconsciously. Basically, read what you like, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Care Bear Types
Care Bears based off of the stuffed toys we love and cherish. As humans gave these toys unconditional love, that love materialized living spiritual bears who live in the clouds. Their job is to now give humans that love back.
Classic Care Bear - ccb
A bear thats about emotions and kind feelings. They inspire these emotions in humans and in other. Care Bears are based off of teddy bears, and they are born from these heartfelt creations of man.
Classic Care Bears or phenotype CCB are known to have single colour coats with a white tummy, muzzle and ear fluff. These bears are known as a technical "pedigree" compared to other bears.
Classic Care Bear Cousin - ccbc
A cousin is a relative of the bears. Although not in the usual animal sense, cousins are other animals born of emotions and kind feelings. Like other animal stuffed animals, care bear cousins also originated from plush stuffed animals. CCBC are single colour coated animals with a white tummy, muzzle, and ear fluff. Traditional Cousins have an ADJ + HEART name.
Mono-Chromatic Care Bears - mCcb
Some care bears have patterns but they are still within the same colour scheme (such as different blue colours) this is then a care bear that is mono-chromatic. Only allowed to have one accent colour, otherwise they fall into the tri-chromatic category.
Tri-Chromatic Care Bears - tCcb
To make looks and appearances simpler, 1-2 colours is mono and 3 or more is tri. These tri coloured bears can some in multiple colours, but most of the time it is three distant hues on the colour palette.
Pattern Care Bears - Pcb
A pattern care bear means it has a different fabric colour sown in. These bears have solid coloured markings made of different colours, whether they are are small accents or large patches.
Dyed Care Bears - dcb
A dyed care bear means it has markings that are a gradient. That means they carefully transition from one colour to another using airbrushing tools. If a bear has makings that become a gradient but are solid, they are a hybrid and are called a dPcb.
Textile Care Bears - tcb
These are ones with different skin materials. This is things like long fur, curly fur, smoothed scaley or just minkwy due. Not too many care bears of this type are documented because it requires the bare hands of a human to be able to tell these physical traits apart. Bears are fuzzy all over, so although they could probably spot an angora or cotton bear a distance away, the others might be more difficult.
Vintage Care Bears & Cousins - Vcb & Vcbc
This specifically refers to the original official care bears. Documented as a vintage item are older and rarely seen around, they get a special term and are spoken of as myth and legend in new bear generations.
The Antiquarian Arktos - Great Great Grand Child of Cloud Keeper. Gave himself a proper title but he still keeps the clouds when he isn't in the archives. As one of the very few humans who live in Care A Lot, Arktos took a great love in not only cleaning after the bears, but the various colours and hues they came into. After a while of seeing patterns on the bears, he is the one who created the phenotypes.
Although the core reason as to why bears are a certain colour are unknown, many believe that care a lot grew over top a rainbow, and wherever the bear soul is born is what colour their fur is. Bears do not discriminate, but they do feel allyship towards those who are of similar colour.
