// GMG Final Day AU [Part 6]

It was soon time for the mages to start, and Rufus was perplexed at Fairy Tail not moving like the rest at the signal, as if they were waiting for the others to get into position, as suggested by the First Master's strategy.

"Time for us to have some fun, gihi. Let's go, Juvia!" Gajeel announced, rushing forward with the water mage. Without Gray around, Mavis had altered her tactics to have Gajeel and Juvia close together so they could team up when needed, due to their time together in Phantom Lord.

"Memory Make: A Night of Falling Stars."

Rufus made his move once the Fairy Tail team started moving, targeting the members with his homing lightning magic.

"As much as I'd like to take you down, we're leaving that to someone else," Laxus commented as he blocked the attack easily, leaving it to Max to deal with Rufus as planned.

Max and Monica walked out just following him. Monica held her hands out and upward in a stretch to show to the crowd how ready for the fight to come she was. Max walked more straightforwardly and seemingly confidently, but in his head, he racked his head to think of a plan to beat Rufus. His mind was so hellbent on this that he could barely hear the roar of the crowd’s chear.

Kyle was himself disappointed in the performance, no where near taking things as hard as Grey was, but still beat himself up about somethings. His head flowed with advice to himself. He should have acted faster, he should have used more of Rogue's power, he felt he didn't deserve the one point he got, and so on.

But even despite the loss when he got back to his team, Monica ran up and jumped into a hug for him. Both her and Max felt proud of the display he showed. In Monica's own words, "You. Kicked. Fuckin'  Ass out there."

"You went against Rogue and didn't even get hurt at all! Well at least not much." Max added and it eased the weight in Kyle's mind.

Rufus gave Kyle an innocent but taunting wave as the Hidden Game ended, the Fairy Tail mage was so close but was just used as a pawn to the very end. Soon the Fairy Tail team regrouped with the others, the participants’ spirits low even as the others tired to cheer them up.

“Don’t worry you guys, we’ll get them back next time!” Natsu reminded them, eager to do just that when he was up next.

// GMG Final Day AU [Part 5]

“Your excitement was probably a factor in you being chosen, jeez…” Laxus commented on Monica’s enthusiasm, she was honestly a little too loud for his liking.

The next morning, Laxus realised Monica did not calm down any overnight, so focused his attention on Max. “You’re not having second thoughts, are you? Don’t forget, you’re also there to settle the score for your friend that lost,” he told him, talking about Kyle.

Soon it was time for the new Fairy Tail team to make their official appearance in the crowd, with Laxus walking out first for the rest to follow. “Let’s go, it’s time for Fairy Tail to make their comeback.”

“Oh Hell YES!!!” Monica yells in excitement. “Ka-gu-ra!” She intentionally over enunciated. Monica then linked her fingers together and gave a devilish smile the way a psychotic supervillain would while planning.

Meanwhile Max was visually panicking. “Ru-Rufus, I-I… hmm…” Last night, Max was calmed by the reminder of Mavis’ tactician legend and Laxus’ reassurance. This morning those two things see to be the only thing keeping his worry to just a panic attack. Max racked his brain for a plan to fight him.

“I can’t wait to see how she’ll react to Ama no Murakumo. She’s beaten me against all of my family’s swords, but we haven’t dueled since I put Ama no Murakumo together. I’m so excited.” Monica went on.

// GMG Final Day AU [Part 5]

“It will be alright, I will ensure Fairy Tail becomes victorious even with the recent changes to our roster.”

With the First’s reassurance, Laxus added to Max. “She is a master tactician, so we’re in good hands. The stakes are high, and that is more reason why. You were picked because we have faith in your abilities, you should believe that too. Think it through tonight, you won’t have that luxury tomorrow.”

The next morning the new team of Fairy Tail consisting of Max, Monica, Laxus, Gajeel & Juvia gathered for a final meeting before the final day of the games started. Max was to take over Gray’s role, and Monica with Erza’s.

“You all got that? We stick to the First’s plan right from the start, the rest is unknown territory with this free for all. But we’ve seen what the other mages are capable of, so adapt to your surroundings accordingly," he reminded the group, acting like the unofficial leader.

“Yes sir!” Monica exclaimed loud and enthusiastically. Monica started to walk off.

Max hesitated however. “Ar-Are you sure First Master?” He asked to her before leaving. “This isn’t just about the games anymore. This is like… life and death kind of stuff.”

“We have a lot riding on this with winning these games, for our pride as Fairy Tail mages, and for those we left behind all these years,” Laxus admitted, but still looked at Monica without any doubt in his eyes. “But that doesn’t mean we’d easily forget those who have joined our guild, you’ve certainly proved yourselves while we were away.””

“You don’t need a speech to convince us, your magic and ability says enough,” he added. With everything decided, it was time for them to leave. “You guys better get some rest and get ready for tomorrow, we’ll have a meeting in the morning to discuss our new strategy, right First?”

“Wel-Well shit yeah, obviously.” She answers not even pretending to consult Max to ask if he wanted to. “Its jus- We- I-” She pauses her sentence and takes a deep breath to stop from stuttering. “I thought you all had just forgotten about us an-and I was preparing this whole fuckin speech in my head about how we deserved to be in, and…” Her words start to trail off.
