How he got back here is a pretty easy guess — why he's staying back here is anyone's guess. ( a breather, a break. He's been dragged, it feels like, from here and back and all over again in the very few hours he's been here. Tonight has not gone to plan, to say the very least. ) A towel is slung over one shoulder, the white sleeves of his dress shirt were rolled up past the elbows with a few mysterious stains he isn't focused on. Tattoos spot across his forearms, a patchwork of styles and designs mingling with the scars & wounds from a life lived running. He's lost his tie somewhere between that here and there — sorry, Kenji, but you're probably not getting that back.

The mask remains, however. This is what separates him from the actual bartenders. An inaccurate skeletal dog head — wolf head? He asked for a dog but it looks more like a wolf? Is it the ears? — covers half his face. His shirt opened, the top few buttons having more or less ripped open to let in a little air, reveals the tattoo wrapped around his neck — a meticulous lines detailing the accurate muscular and skeletal anatomy of an opened throat. A map on where to dig your teeth in if you get lucky.

Hiroji is not feeling lucky tonight. He had a plan and then fourteen other fucking plans suddenly derailed his plan. It feels like the second he stepped foot in here, he's been running. He just needs a job. He just needs to do something. Everything can sort out itself out later. "Alright, what can I get you? I don't know what they have and I don't care but I can probably find it and make whatever you want."

the  question  had  taken  justine  by  surprise.  no,  no  it  was  not  the  question  itself  that  had  taken  justine  by  surprise.  her  younger  sister  had  always  spoken  with  a  bold  earnestness,  one  which  gave  the  illusion  of  freedom.  

it  was  not  the  question  itself  that  had  taken  justine  by  surprise,  but  the  fact  that  lucinda  had  felt  the  need  to  ask  it.

justine  was  a  woman  who  carried  herself  with  grace  and  poise.  a  woman  to  prided  herself  on  it.  if  lucinda  felt  the  need  to  confront  her,  here  on  the  balcony  adjoining  the  bedroom  they  shared,  then  it  meant  that  in  the  fortnight  gone  by,  justine  had  carried  herself  with  attributes  polar  opposite  to  grace  and  poise.

Charlie was a slight, sudden stab of warmth against her shoulder. Staggeringly alive. All of Jude flinched. “Hey,” you’re going to be okay. A voice, steady and firm, it swallowed any reassurances. She couldn’t make a home out of hope. None of them could. There were no promises to be made—no certainty of tomorrow, rescue or one more impossible morning that lived divinely in her memories. They hungered still and would undoubtedly be fed. It was unpractised, the return—a wide palm on the back, hesitant at first but finally solid as she let Charlie fall into her. Unwavering. A heartbeat faint under her fingertips. Jude thought of iron bunk beds and the grief of left-behind children. She cleared her throat. “Jesus, kid, it won’t taste that bad.”

Jude stayed. In the snow and the destruction, she remained steady in the embrace. Held tight with the very arms that had only ever driven away before. Well, all except one. In a bed mere feet away, broken, somewhere warmer. It was Shaw who had ruined her. It was too late. Her chest burned with it all now, somewhere between heart and throat—the things felt but never spoken aloud. The ache of being anything at all. Nearer, Jude didn’t tell Charlie it looked worse up close. The fall. “Come on, it’ll get cold.” Not the characteristic shove-off; instead, she squeezed the other’s shoulders and tilted back. A departure signalled for once, rather than the impulsive movements of a being who frequently longed to be anywhere other than where it was.

Back to the kitchen, then. To the soup that still simmered on the stove, the thick cuts of bread and vegetables. Products of care that were as graceless as they were fierce. Tenderness, long unused, would only be frantic in its eventual spill. It was clumsy, this metamorphosis; it could not be stilled.

In the doorway, she turned to Charlie again. A mouth that curved but didn’t quite smile. “Just no hootin’ and hollerin’, you; they need to rest.” Jude held the door open for her.

Perhaps Charlie had grown too comfortable in her nine years here, had accepted reality and its twisted face too easily. They had almost had a sense of normality, the people that lived here, in the community and relationships that they built with one another. Even now, Charlie thought of Shaw and the greedy way she had taken up the doctor's time. Their time had clearly been so precious. And so fell the reminder: Arcadia was the place where wounded things came to die, choking on blood and suffering, sometimes for years, before ever conceding defeat to death.

Peachy. Charlie knew that that meant: An admission followed by an immediate dismissal that things were actually not very peachy. They were both alike then, in the quiet way they hid what hurt from others. Charlie would have argued that Jude's injuries were almost tangible to her than her own physical injuries, running deep in the caverns that the ranch hand how no doubt carved into herself all these years, but something hollow was starting to form in her too.

Hunger was a weird companion to the ongoing nausea she felt trying to process the event of the last few weeks. She averted her eyes briefly back to the now frozen puddle of blood in the wreckage and then forced herself to look at Jude, green steel as her stomach grumbled in answer to Jude's question. Charlie had been avoiding the diner, and if she was honest with herself she'd recently taken an impressive commitment to a liquid diet that was full of hops and hangovers.

"I could eat," Charlie answered, not one to turn down generosity. She maneuvered her way through the wreckage towards Jude. Passing her, Charlie paused, swayed back and forth on her feet and then turned towards the woman, arms wrapping around her in a hug too quick to second guess. It was as if to say, I'm sorry and also I'm afraid too most times.

A few hairs I threw together meaning to make Samurai and Heian era sims, although they're originally aimed toward ancient Chinese styles so should definatley work for that, too. With the exeption of the July 77 mesh (although it's certainly not a modern mesh either), these meshes are practically fossils in sims 2 CC terms so they suffer from issues, especially mapping issues, aha. I had more hairs on my list for this set originally and I ended up scrapping several that just didn't look good no matter what I did, so even if these aren't perfect, they're the ones that came out best. In the previews I used a few hairlines, for Cglvl 005 I used @spell-bloom's Fancy hairline recolours, Jade 5 has my Henshin Impact Geiko hairline in Dynamite, Qingshuangtongzi 123 Maji has Charismatictrait's ItGirlSims King Kylie hairline recolour.
