who: chance @chancemonroe
where: Vet Clinic
Carleigha loved animals, often living vicariously through her friends' pets spoiling them with homemade treats and snuggles whenever she was around. With her health issues, she didn't feel right bringing a pet into her home with her future up in the air. When she noticed this little kitten hanging around the library though she couldn't help but let her heart melt. It wasn't long before she'd one the hearts of most the librarians and as long as her check up went well, the library was going to earn its very own cat.
Her head lifted as the vet tech stepped in and she offered them a smile. "Good morning, Chance! Look who we found at the library"

Carleigha couldn't help but chuckle at his words and she shrugs faintly. "Carefully how loud you say that in the library, some of us take our auntie duties very seriously, it wouldn't even matter that you're grown." She smiles and nods softly in understanding. "Sounds like a plan, I think we are debating on who will take him home in the evenings to give him something more stable when the library is closed. We don't want him there all alone. It may be me but I have to confirm if my roommate is alright with a nurse but I promise to ensure he gets all the extra love after that or any surgery."
"You sound more than prepared. It makes me wish that I had a whole group of librarians in charge of taking care of me," he replied with a laugh, filling out the chart as he continued to examine the kitten that would eventually have to be taken in the back for a weight and temperature check. "I think you've got it all handled and the kitten seems to be in good health. We can know more with a few more tests but I think they can come later. The last thing we want to do is stress him out more than he probably has been with living out on the streets." Chance glanced back up again with a smile. "I think he's in really good hands between you and the rest of the librarians taking care of him. Just make sure that you've got a place for him to stay when you get him neutered. I wouldn't recommend him staying at the library during that time. He'll need a lot more attention and one on one care."

Carleigha nods in understanding. She understood the struggle with rent and finding a good roommate. She was thankful for Leila, the pair of seemed to settle in well together. She smiles softly leaning against the counter and nods. "Sounds great, we did a bit of research..you know..cuz librarians but it'll be good to have confirmed information." Taking down a few notes to set a timeline to share with the group. They were prepared for it. Setting aside money in preparation for him to be neuter and any other issues. There was even a patron or two that donated to help with the care. "Not at all, we have a whole list of things he may need based off what we'd researched. On some level we are prepared."
"One day. Right now I've got to settle for a place that I can afford until I can figure out a new roommate situation," he joked, giving the kitten a scratch under the chin as he continued to examine it for any injuries or even if it had fleas. It seemed to be doing pretty well, especially considering they'd found it roaming loose before inviting it into the library. "I like it. It looks like a Catticus Finch. I think no matter what is chosen, the cat is a lucky one to be taken in and taken care of so well already." He nodded. "At least another two weeks, make sure that he's acclimated and on a steady diet. There's a few options to choose from and the receptionist can help with picking out the right one for a kitten. I'd say we schedule for him to get his first round of shots then, maybe talk about getting him neutered but again, that wouldn't happen until we put a bit more weight on him." Chance glanced up with a half grin. "None of this scaring you away? It's a lot of work to raise a kitten, but it sounds like you have a whole village."

"Oh no, well hopefully you'll find a place you like someday that allows for pets." She smiles softly and nods scratching the kitten's ears playfully. "The other thought is Catticus Finch..Library humor. I think we're voting on the name some time soon." Her head tilts faintly in thought. "Um, we'll i'm not sure what it had before last week, but for the past week he's had milk or wet food." Reaching for her bag she pulls out her phone to open her notes app. "Absolutely, I will take it all down to share with the team. We'll make sure he has the best care. How long do you think we'll need to wait?"
"I wish. Nah, I had a dog when I was a kid but I haven't had one since. Not through lack of trying, more 'cause the place I'm at won't allow pets." At least not ones they know about, which meant there were days or nights when he'd bring one home before finding it a forever home. "I like Odie. It makes me think of Garfield." He grinned at Carly before he went back to checking over the kitten, taking notes when he could for the file along with seeing what all needed to be done before sending the kitten back on it's way home. "Okay by any chance do you know what food it's been getting recently?" If it were feral, then they might not know but it would help determine if they needed to do a parasite scan now or wait until a later date. "It might need a few shots, just in case it hasn't gotten a rabies or anything like that yet. Not today, because it's still so young but I think if you guys are planning on raising it at the library, then we can figure out a timeline to get it to perfect health even though they look great already."

Carleigha grins up to him and nods. "Yep, I confirmed with Asa that it would be ok and he'd have a whole crew of people giving them so much love. Plus so many comfy places to sleep." She shakes her head faintly, "There's an ongoing debate on their name at this point. It honestly the hardest thing to get a room full of readers to agree on one name. There's two many good references. I'm partial to Odysseus..Odie for short but hopefully we'll have a vote soon. Maybe get all our patrons involved." Her head lifted to the others "Do you have any pets?"
"Is that so? So you're thinking of keeping it but for the library." He was happy to hear it, meaning the little guy or girl had a home full of people that cared about it as he moved towards the table to introduce himself to the little one. "Okay, well let's see if we can't give this little one a clean bill of health so that you guys can make it a new home at the library. Does it have a name yet?" He started to pet the kitten, trying to keep it calm as he checked it out before reaching out for the vet if needed. A normal tech appointment was routine by now, but there was no telling what the kitten might need as he smiled. "We got plenty here to help you get started. Though I'm sure you guys already have ideas of what you want."

Carleigha chuckles softly hearing Chance's comment when he comes in. She carefully sets the little kitten down on the table for him to check over. "Great to see you too Chance, though I can't blame you, they certainly are a heart stealer. The entire staff and many of our patrons already adore this little one." She scritches the little one behind the ear and nods. "We are actually, our last meeting was all about how we can be accommodating for her to be our adorable library cat."
Most of his time was spent focusing on the band, but he'd listened long enough to his parents that there needed to be some way to earn enough money that he wasn't living with them forever. Somehow he'd managed to scrape by enough to gather something of a degree and a job, one that he loved despite his passion being the music that coursed through his veins as he grinned at seeing Carly on the other side of the door. "You know, no one told me today was gonna be a lucky day but seeing you, I know it is," he replied with bit of a laugh when he saw the patient. "You're not bad either Carly," he added with a wink as he held out his hand for the kitten to sniff. "This guy looks barely old enough to be on his own. It looks like he knew exactly where to go too if he showed up at the library. Are you looking to keep them?" The notes had said that it was a wellness check, not a drop off.
