CBD is anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiolytic. These properties allow it to prevent stress, anxiety and also help to relieve pain. The effects of these properties aren’t enough to allow CBD to benefit so many conditions alone, however. The interaction of the Cannabinoids found in CBD with the receptors is the leading property that produces positive effects throughout the body. These allow CBD to treat many conditions leading to a stable health condition in humans and animals alike. 🌿 . . .

Shoppers’ Online Medical Cannabis Consultations Changes the Game
Shoppers Drug Mart Expands Program Across Canada – LPC
Shoppers Drug Mart expanded its online medical cannabis consultations to most provinces and territories to favourable response. Dr. Paul Daeninck, an oncologist in Manitoba who sits on Shoppers’ advisory board, said the service will guide patients. "Often patients are coming in to see me with their product,” said Dr. Daeninck. “They’re saying to me, ‘What is this, how do I use it, my cousin, my grandson, my neighbour told me about using this, what am I supposed to do with it?’ They have no guidance." Shoppers’ online medical cannabis consultations offer that guidance. "For years, I’ve talked about using pharmacists as a good ally when you’re talking about medical cannabis," he said. "They haven’t been allowed to do very much about it... I think this is something that will be a benefit to all." Online medical cannabis consultations could be a game changer. Patients currently don’t have access to good information because their doctors have concerns about cannabis risks and benefits. That makes getting a cannabis prescription more difficult. Even CBD remedies are slow to gain acceptance. It’s a catch-22: doctors want more research to make information decisions, but restrictions are hampering cannabis research.
Online Medical Cannabis Consultations Help Patients Make Informed Decisions – LPC
Although doctors’ hesitance about prescribing cannabis is understandable, patients need a source of reliable, evidence-based information. Shoppers’ telemedicine services connect patients with health providers, explain the different cannabis options, and get their medical document. At the very least, patients can avoid the hit-or-miss self-medication game. "When you go into one of those (recreational) stores, you have a budtender, and it’s kind of like going to a bartender,” Dr. Daeninck said. “They don’t have the experience; they don’t know what they’re talking about in terms of medical cannabis." The telemedicine option is also great for those living in rural and remote communities. According to the Shoppers Drug Mart website, online medical cannabis consultations are free. Currently, telemedicine consultation services are not available in Quebec, Alberta, or the Yukon, but registration services are. Shoppers states on its website that it is "working hard to be able to support all Canadian patients soon." The site also lists nearby cannabis clinics, searchable by city and postal code for all regions of Canada. A huge segment of the human population is affected by anxiety-related disorders. Though there are many prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs available, more and more people are turning to CBD for anxiety relief. We started with organic remedies, then turned to science, but now we are slowly migrating back to mother nature, as many people are tired of synthetic medications and want a more natural, organic remedy. This switch back to a natural alternative has led straight to CBD oil.

Cannabis Epilepsy Treatment Denied in UK
UK National Health Service Watchdog Says More Proof Needed That Cannabis Epilepsy Treatment Works – LPC
Despite pushback from parents, the UK National Health Service (NHS) won’t back a cannabis epilepsy treatment. That’s based on the recommendation of health watchdog National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice). Parents and campaigners said this decision will contribute to unnecessary suffering. As usual, the reasons behind the decision to block CBD drugs are complex. But they amount to unknown risks and lack of evidence that cannabis epilepsy treatment works. “There are hundreds of thousands of people using cannabis-based medicines across the world,” said Hannah Deacon. Her son, Alfie Dingley, is one of only two patients to have a prescription for medical cannabis to treat their condition. “It’s having an enormously positive impact on their health. Many countries have legalized medical cannabis industries – America, Canada and other G7 countries. They see the evidence is good enough. The UK is insisting on reinventing the wheel for no reason and the people who are suffering are patients.” Dr. Catherine Jacobson, a neuroscientist in the US, found that CBD remedies helped her son with epilepsy. Now that hemp has been legalized in the US, CBD-based medications are legal in theory. However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would technically need to approve medical use. That CBD regulatory framework is coming as well, the FDA says. A cannabis epilepsy treatment could fall through the cracks as many cannabis-based medicines do in the US. That’s because cannabis is legal at the state level, but not at the federal area. CBD medications land in a legal grey area.
Why the Delay in Approving CBD Medications in the UK? – LPC
In the UK, doctors have the same concerns about CBD as they do everywhere. Here are people who spend a good portion of their lives studying to become health experts. It’s worth listening to what they have to say. Doctors opposed to cannabis epilepsy treatment aren’t convinced that the results outweigh the risks. The effects of CBD on children are not well understood, though cannabis can affect brain development. Doctors who wish to do no harm want to understand those risks better. On the other hand, doctors for cannabis epilepsy treatment say there is enough non-scientific data to okay the drug. In severe cases of epilepsy, children can have 50 or more seizures per day. It’s hard to imagine based on the data available right now that the long-term effects of CBD could be worse. Still, the concerns of the doctors against the drug are valid. Perhaps the answer is to create a system referring patients to doctors specializing in CBD medications. These doctors would be more comfortable prescribing cannabis epilepsy treatment – and treatments for MS, chronic pain, and other conditions. They would also be more aware of the risks, and be able to better advise their patients. CBD Remedies Gaining Acceptance
Research Still Needed into CBD Remedies, but Facts So Far Are Encouraging – LPC
When it comes to CBD remedies, it’s difficult to decide who is right and who is wrong. You hear all these “miracle” stories about how cannabis cured this disease and relieved those symptoms. But then you hear from doctors who say there is no proof it works. The truth about CBD remedies is somewhere in the middle. This New York Time report (please see link below) explores anecdotal evidence of CBD remedies and why research is challenging. The story starts with Dr. Catherine Jacobson, a neuroscientist who switched her specialty to epilepsy. Her son Ben has epilepsy, and she wanted to find help for him. Among other things, she researched CBD remedies for epileptic seizures. The research was slim. But one study from Brazil had amazing results. CBD remedies reduced or eliminated seizures in seven of eight patients. In the placebo group, only one improved. Sixteen patients is an extremely small sample size, but the results were amazing nonetheless. Dr. Jacobson’s own research helped her son Ben get relief from his symptoms. But the real success story was a girl in Colorado who also has epilepsy. She went from 50 seizures per day to almost zero after taking CBD remedies. CBD has also been found to relieve nausea, pain, and other neurological disorders. Some research suggests that CBD remedies can perhaps prevent symptoms of schizophrenia before they appear. Other researchers hope CBD can replace opioids for pain relief including one cannabis research project https://licensedproducerscanada.ca/news/cannabis-research-to-investigate-ex-nhlers-and-opioids underway in Toronto.
Cannabis as Medicine Has a Long History – LPC
CBD remedies are not new. Portuguese physician Garcia Da Orta wrote about cannabis as medicine in the 1500s after travelling to India. But when the US Drug Enforcement Agency classified cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug in 1970, it effectively stopped all modern research there. However, there has been a shift in recent years. More states in the US are legalizing cannabis for medical and recreational use. Federally, cannabis is still illegal but hemp was legalized in the US in December 2018. CBD products are also popping up around the United States with big names such as Martha Stewart and her line of hemp-derived CBD products with partner Canopy Growth. and Neiman Marcus recently launched its cannabis-based beauty products as well. However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is not yet convinced of CBD remedies. The FDA and scientists alike also have concerns about quality control. The agency itself tested CBD products and found many did not have the amount of CBD advertised. An independent Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) research study found that over two-thirds of products had either less than or more than the CBD advertised. One person using CBD for his illness died of a fungal infection contracted from black market cannabis. This is why the Gold Standard that Canada is creating is so important. Safety regulations -- including those that protect our children – are crucial. But the most useful CBD remedies are those that have consistent quality control. Charlotte Figi, CBD Trailblazer, Passes Away
13-Year-Old Charlotte Figi Experienced Seizures Since Infancy – LPC
Charlotte Figi, the American girl who became the face of medical cannabis in that country, died of complications due to COVID-19. She was 13 years old. Charlotte Figi was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that starts in infancy. She experienced seizures every 30 minutes on average by age 5. Where other medications didn’t work, cannabidiol or CBD did. She didn’t have any seizures for seven days once she started treatment. Since then, CBD remedies have gained more acceptance for everything from chronic pain to mental health. Charlotte Figi’s mother said she was adventurous, liked to hike, and rode horses with her sister. “She found incredible resolution from cannabis but she didn’t know,” Ms. Figi said. “She had a good life.” Charlotte Figi and her family should be honoured for their strength, courage, and spirit.
