WashPost Still Convinced That Trump is Secretly Working for Russia

It’s been nearly two years since Special Counsel Robert Mueller released his long-awaited report on the Big Question: Did the Trump campaign work with Russian intelligence to steal the 2016 election? Mueller’s report was clear and unequivocal: It never happened. The media and the Democrats had been pushing an outright hoax for the previous two years; there was no reason to believe that the Russians “had something” on Trump, and there was certainly no reason to think that our president was secretly beholden to Vladimir Putin.

But here we are, eighteen long months later, and the Washington Post apparently still hasn’t gotten the memo. In an op-ed this week, reporter Tim Weiner said that Trump’s allegiance to Russia remains a “crisis” that must be reckoned with.

“Despite the investigation by former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, despite the work of congressional intelligence committees and inspectors general — and despite impeachment — we still don’t know why the president kowtows to Vladimir Putin, broadcasts Russian disinformation, bends foreign policy to suit the Kremlin and brushes off reports of Russians bounty-hunting American soldiers,” Weiner wrote. “We still don’t know whether Putin has something on him. And we need to know the answers — urgently. Knowing could be devastating. Not knowing is far worse. Not knowing is a threat to a functioning democracy.

“Once in the White House, Trump was shielded in the invisibility cloak of presidential power,” he lamented. “If the counterintelligence agents wanted to follow the money, and they did, how could they get to Trump’s tax returns or the records of his 500-odd limited liability companies? And how could they do it in secret — an imperative for a counterintelligence investigation?”

Papers like the Washington Post won’t dare run anti-Black Lives Matter columns because they might be called “racist” by woke staffers, but they’ll print this garbage without a second thought. Readers are expected to walk away shaking their heads, convinced that – despite all the evidence to the contrary – that there really is a “pee tape” somewhere in the Kremlin. That Trump and Putin really did hatch a scheme to thwart democracy in 2016…and that they’re probably getting ready to do it again in November. Hell, they probably cooked up the coronavirus together during some top-secret meeting in the Seychelles.

Weiner has no problem maintaining these conspiracy theories long past their expiration date, and he has no problem pointing out what he considers the “problematic” aspects of Trump’s position on Russia. What he does have a problem with is mentioning that Trump has signed off on more new sanctions against Moscow than his predecessor ever did.

That…that wouldn’t quite fit the narrative.

Seychelles Bank Doesn’t Know How It Got Infected with Ransomware Last Week

The Development Bank of Seychelles (DBS) has suffered a ransomware attack that remains a mystery as to how it occurred, almost a full week after the fact. The bank notified the country’s regulator of the incident and is currently still assessing the extent of the impact.

DBS, a joint venture by the Seychelles government and several shareholders, said the cyber incident occurred Wednesday, September 9. The Central Bank of Seychelles, which regulates all financial institutions in the country, announced the incident in a press release issued two days later, on September 11.

“The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) has been informed of a ransomware attack on the network of the Development Bank of Seychelles (DBS),” the press release states. “The incident was communicated to CBS on Wednesday 9 September 2020. Since then, CBS has been engaging with DBS to establish the exact nature and circumstances of the incident and closely monitor the developments, including the possible impact on DBS’ operations.”

The CBS has instructed DBS to keep all affected parties in the loop as investigators sift through the data available.

“As a regulator of financial institutions, CBS is mindful of cybersecurity risks and the impact that cyber-attacks can have on the financial system, an issue that is continually monitored and discussed at the regulatory level by the Financial Stability Committee,” the announcement continues.

“In this light, engagement with DBS will also endeavour to identify areas of vulnerability that could have led to the ransomware attack. The CBS will be providing further details to the general public once the full extent of this reality has been clearly understood,” the CBS notes.

In other words, almost a full week after the incident occurred, the DBS and everyone involved in the investigation still don’t know how ransomware operators creeped in the infrastructure to deploy their data crippling malware.

The announcement also doesn’t disclose the ransomware strain used in the attack (whether investigators have identified it or not), nor does it say anything about the attackers’ demands. As of this writing, the official website of the Development Bank of Seychelles (www.dbs.sc) is down.

This event, like other ransomware attacks in the financial sector, points to the need of better auditing systems and procedures, automated patch management, human risk analytics, as well as forensic capabilities to aid investigative efforts. Not knowing how the breach occurred, what the extent of the damage is, who is responsible, and everything in between means it can happen again – and likely will.

Észak-Korea németországi nagykövetségét használja rakétatechnológia beszerzésére nukleáris programjához. Ezt a német belföldi hírszerző ügynökség, a Szövetségi Alkotmányvédelmi Hivatal (BfV) vezetője, Hans-Georg Maassen nyilatkozta az Észak-német Rádiónak.

  A bejelntés nem jelent mást, mint hogy a világ legkiszámíthatatlanabb, nukleáris ambíciókat dédelgető diktatórikus rezsimje németországi nagykövetségén keresztül jutott hozzá rakétaprogramjához és nukleáris programjához szükséges high-tech alkatrészekhez.

  Olyan, „kettős felhasználású” eszközökről van szó, amelyek nem feltétlenül hadászati jellegűek, a civil gazdaságban is alkalmazhatóak. Maassen kijelentette, hogy a német illetékes szervek minden erejükkel igyekeznek megakadályozni Észak-Korea erre vonatkozó ügyleteit, de nem tudják garantálni, hogy minden alkalommal sikerrel járnak.

A nemzetközi közösség válaszul a rakétatesztre csökkentette a finomított olajszármazékokra vonatkozó kvóta nagyságát.

  A CBS News egy ENSZ-jelentésre hivatkozva azt írja, hogy Észak-Korea Szíriábal és Mianmarral együttműködve építgeti nukleáris arzenálját. Ugyanez a jelentés foglalkozott azzal is, hogy az észak-koreai tankerek a tengeren szivattyúzzák át más olajszállítókból a finomított kőolaja, és hogy nyomkövetési rendszereket sikerült beszereznie kedvezményes áron egy izraeli informatikai cégtől.

  Az észak-koreai szénexportra vonatkozó ENSZ korlátozásokat is sikeresen játszotta ki Phenjan. Az útvonalak és a szállítólevelek meghamisításával sikerült harmadik országokon keresztül értékesíteni. Az illegális széneladásban olyan országokban nyilvántartott cégek segédkeztek, mint Ausztrália, Brit Virgin-szigetek, Kína, Hong ong, Seychelle-szigetek és Nagy-Britannia. Az érintett országok azzal védekeznek, hogy nem ismerték a szénszállítmányok eredetét.

  A jelentés azt írja, hogy a pénzügyi tranzakciók lebonyolítását észak-koreai részről 30 tengerentúli képviselő bonyolítja, akik Ázsiában vagy a Közel-Keleten élnek illetve szabadon mozoghatnak szerte a világban, és rengeteg készpénzzel rendelkeznek – és a nyugat-európai hírességeket megszégyenítő módon használják ki az offshore cégek adta lehetőségeket.

Apologies for going missing these last few weeks. If you follow me on insta you know about all the interesting stuff that kept me busy last month.

2017 was a whirlwind of activity on all fronts whether it was CB, AU or personally. Here are a few things that stood out for me:

Amazing collaborations with super amazing partners. Urbanclap, Liva, Livon, Upasana, Nykaa and many more. My involvement at AU restricts the amount of projects I can take up in CB which forces me to pick and choose. I mostly use my judgement. Glad that the collaborations so far turned out well.

Travel to new places like Seychelles, South Africa, Auroville, China and revisiting some goldie oldies like Little Rann, Pushkar and Gir (twice last year!) made this a super happy year wanderlust goals wise.

Reinventing my projects at AU whether it was the Orientation week, project based learning or the Independent Study Period to make sure learning is as engaging as it is fruitful for students.

Reading 30 odd books. (Catch my top 5 from 2018 here). So, well it is nothing like my feat last year when I read 50 books but I am happy I back on the reading horse.

Workout journey. This has to be the best part of my 2017 highlights. I discovered a system to my madness, to my never ending quest of losing weight and eating right. I found the right trainer and a workout plan that motivated me enough to get to the gym every week. Also, finally got around to eating a full and balanced meal rather than just trying to fit my food into a calorie goal for the day.

Watched lots and lots of Netflix. Okay I agree this doesn’t count as a productive item but I am such a TV buff and 2016 was a so-so year on that front. And, this is also the time K & I spend together, so this is really a win! Get some recos on my Insta.

Met family, spent time with family, spent quality ME time (which wasn’t just eating empty calories), tried a lot of new cuisines and food items, survived without 2 cars (that’s a story for another day), laughed, partied (non-violently, it was rather sad) and generally had lots of fun.

I am looking forward to 2018 but with no new resolutions. I hope I continue to read, travel, explore & experiment and workout right this year as well. Happy New Year 2018!
