Something For The Weekend

We are very lucky to be doing what we do in bringing live music to all our clients and their guests and his weekend was no exception. As mentioned in a previous blog We had the pleasure of playing at Mary & Peite’s wedding in Seagrave Barn on Friday. It was a wonderful occasion with a lot of familiar faces in attendance. We had our four-piece band booked for this wedding and they were amazing as always. Mary’s son Gavin got on the stage at the end of the night to blast out a few tunes too and he was terrific. On the Safety side of thigs and to try and minimize the risk of COVID i personally set up all the backline PA and gear and then asked y other band members to set their own gear up separately and just look after their own gear when leaving at the end of the night. We all wore our masks and I just removed mine while singing. We kept our distance from guests and endeavored to keep ourselves and the wedding guest safe too. I finished the night off with a DJ set and everyone was over the moon for a beautiful setting and beautiful night. Oh,, and even Eugene (Manager) sang some Italian opera after the meal. What a star he is. Really hope were beck here again for another celebration.

 On Saturday evening I had the pleasure of providing the music for a baptismal party in The Shirley Arms Hotel, Carrickmacross. This is a fantastic place to go for a party, celebration, evening meal or Sunday lunch. Michael the manger runs a really great operation here and the staff are some of the best around. The party was a great success and there were singers, dancers and frolics for the two-hour set. We had a truly great evening. This was one of the best christening parties I’ve[BM1]  ever been to. Following this party, I headed off to The Cavan Crystal Hotel to play for a couple of hours in the bar. The bar here has been newly renovated, and it looks great. The atmosphere here was very relaxed with couples and friends chatting over drinks and nibbles so, I kept the music low key and background.

  My last performance this weekend was in the stunning Bellingham Castle at a wedding afterparty in the bar. The wedding couple were lovely, and the guests were terrific. I played all sorts from popular music (Dermot Kennedy, Dua Lipa) to classics (Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles) to indie anthems by Radiohead, Bon Ivor, REM. It was a real mix for the few hours, and it was a lot of fun. One guest was a major fan of the band The Doors, so I played lots of songs by The Doors too. This ended what was a great weekend of music and fun.

GREG + NICOLE | MARRIED AT CENTURY BARN

Rewind 12 years ago, when Greg + Nicole met in high-school through mutual friends. What started as acquaintance, turned into friendship, and finally grew into the wonderful relationship that these two share now. Greg + Nicole weren’t interested in rushing into marriage, having so much they wanted to accomplish in life before settling down, like university, careers, and buying a home. After 11 years together, this past Saturday was finally the day that the two (three, actually, including their adorable pup Khloe!) finally became a family!

The night before the wedding was spent in Peterborough in separate hotel suites, with their closest friends. The ladies made the responsible decision to have an early night so they would feel well-rested in the morning to prepare for Saturdays festivities. The men, on the other hand, decided to stay up late with *ahem* a few drinks, followed by a late night dip, not in the pool, but in the river that ran alongside the hotel. That’s men for you, am I right?

I met Nicole and her girlfriends at Century Barn in Cavan, where they have a beautiful bridal suite, to finish her preparations. There were quite a few wet eyes, as Nicole stepped into her gorgeous lace dress, completing the vision of the perfect bride.

After preparations were complete, Greg + Nicole decided to share a First Look. Walking with Nicole towards Greg's turned back, she confided that she finally felt nervous, now that the moment was here. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders and covering his eyes with her hands, Nicole said “Are you ready?” and Greg finally turned around to be blown away by the sight of Nicole. Off in the distance, the bridal party cheered and cat-called.

Their short wedding ceremony was made special and non-traditional, first by having their dog Khloe attend (she was so perfect!), and by sharing shots of tequila at the alter as part of their vows.

After a sweet ceremony and family portraits, the real party started as guests enjoyed an open bar and finger-lickin’ good BBQ. Good music, outdoor games (horseshoes, anyone?), a bon fire, and an incredible, huge glowing balloon made this party one of the funnest we’ve ever seen!
