new wip wednesday
i wanted to get the first chapter of this done as an early bday present to me because ive been talking about this fic for foreverrrrr but its not gonna happen because im bad at measuring time and effort 😮💨 but look! hunger games au fic!
Anakin pushes his face into his neck, letting his lips press against his pulse for a moment.
“Anakin,” Obi-Wan murmurs, recognition and warning rolled into one tone.
But Anakin wouldn’t be who he is if he allowed the man in his arms to so easily twist away. He wouldn’t even be here now, pressed up against him with the scent of saltwater and lilacs and leather filling his nose, if he let one warning word distract him from his goal.
So instead he pushes further, wraps his hands around Obi-Wan’s hips and takes the skin beneath his lips between his teeth. The soft fabric of their pants brush together, so loud in the stillness of the kitchen that it’s deafening—that it’s almost loud enough to drown out the catch in Obi-Wan’s breathing.
But Anakin has trained himself over the past five years to listen for all the small ways that Obi-Wan Kenobi capitulates, so he hears his sigh, feels the slump of his shoulders against his own as his head sways forward and then back.
Anakin takes his time worrying a bitemark into his neck, just at the edge of his beard. On the holos that will film Obi-Wan’s face today, it’ll look like a shadow.
But Anakin will know. Obi-Wan will know.
“Anakin,” his lover murmurs, and Anakin’s hand moves from his waist up to stroke down his arm, corded with tense muscle. Fisherman’s muscle. Victor’s muscle too.
Not today, he means. It’s obvious in every line of his body. It’s obvious in the fact that he left the bed so early in the morning when neither of them must work. It’s obvious in the distance in his eyes, the frown across his lips.
Today is not a day where Obi-Wan will accept pleasure from anyone’s lips or hands, undeserving as he feels to be on the receiving end of such a kindness.
Anakin’s left hand falls to cover Obi-Wan’s, tangling their fingers together. His are rougher than Obi-Wan’s, working man’s hands now that he is twenty-one and a man of the sea like most are on Stewjon. The rough drag of his calluses over the hairy knuckles of Obi-Wan’s hand makes Anakin swallow a smile. Victors of the Hunger Games are forbidden from working laborious jobs. They’re meant to languish away in their Coruscanti-funded manors, with idle minds and idle hands, picking at paints or design stencils or any number of different government approved hobbies
Obi-Wan Kenobi is not made to be idle. He has no patience for painting or sewing, for cooking or jewelry design. Luckily for him, Stewjon is the fourth planet from Coruscant, on the edge of the inner rim, and it’s rather small, rather ordinary. In the colder months, during the few months of the star year where the galaxy is not forced to care about the Hunger Games and its Victors, he can slip away to the ocean. Fish and sail like he was born to do, Stewjoni through and through.
But Anakin is out on those choppy seas year-round now that he’s four years finished with his compulsory education. His hands are rougher than Obi-Wan’s and they always will be.
Anakin likes it. Likes the way Obi-Wan’s softness contrasts against his own rougher places. Likes that he can sneak away from Obi-Wan’s manor in the blue of the pre-dawn light, first to the sea and then to the market, and Obi-Wan will be there when he gets back. Likes that when he leaves, his lover is curled up asleep in their bed. And when he returns with the fattest fish from his haul, Anakin can cook it for him too.
He likes that he is the only thing Obi-Wan needs. He provides. He cooks for him. He feeds him. He touches him with his rough hands, to dirty him and then to clean him up. Everything that Obi-Wan needs, Anakin is the person to give it to him.
He supposes he has Coruscant to thank for that.
He’s not stupid enough to say that—ever, but especially today. Especially on the day of the Reaping.
#wip wednesday#obikin#hunger games au#so like its gonna be set in the gffa slightly#so each district from the book is a either planet or planetary system#and coruscant is of course the capitol#anakin and obi-wan live in district 4 aka stewjon#im having a lot of fun examining their relationship#my bday is on saturday i just think this first chapter is going to be so long#because it covers from them waking up to anakin's reaping#which includes anakin talking in the market with other people on stewjon#because we love an outsiders implied pov on obikin and anakin specifically#and then also obi-wan's own reaping#cause i figure more than one person has won the hunger games in the past 50 years or whatever#so they must do some sort of drawing for the mentor too#its usually obi-wan tho#bad luck or capitol favoritism#or obi-wan volunteering even though he hates it because one of the other victors just had a baby or has small kids#or is too old#or something#anyway this is not a start wednesday done by saturday sorta project lol#im too passionate about these batshit insane characters

The Other Side - Part One
Pairing: Jacob Seed x Reader, Eli Palmer x Reader
Rating: M (Language, Violence, Sexual Situations, Non-Consensual Interactions, Torture)
Description: You are the head of one of Eli's teams, and his sweetheart, then Jacob captures you.
- Part Two
- Part Three
- Final Part
War is never and will never be an easy road, especially when you are emotionally involved with the persons you fight beside. Brothers, sisters, friends, people you would do anything for, even die. That was the very case here, which made the decision of joining the Whitetail milita a double edged sword. On one end, you wanted to be near your friends so that you could protect them, but on the other end, being near them risked the possibility of failing them. You knew that failure, two tours in Iraq taught you about regret lived when someone you cared for died in the line of fire.
So, when Eli asked you to join his crew, you were hesitant at first. You knew about the fiasco that had been going on with the cult, you would be lying if you said you didn't have to fend off the cult members from time to time. You promised yourself you'd never give into to violence ever again, and you didn't. You willed yourself to stand free, away from those harmful thoughts and memories, away from alcohol and flashbacks. Eli's ask stood against everything you had worked towards, the progress you had made since returning from overseas about seven years back. He knew that, the both of you had surely talked about it across a campfire once before. You could see it in his eyes, the hint of guilt, the desperation of having you beside him. The two of you had been more than acquaintances, more than friends after his divorce, but less than partners. There was certainly always something lingering there. That was what made you say 'yes', that was what made you hurl yourself back into the pool of demons you had ridded yourself of. Him.
Three months in, after being a respective member of his main alpha team, you both made it official. This only seemed to make you more cautious about missions, about his safety, about the safety of the militia. It went both ways truly, but you never considered his feelings towards the matter as much as your own. This often led to arguments, loud shouting matches that never ended with a clear winner. The other militia members steered clear, sipped from their beer, conducted their surveillance ops, whatever kept them away from getting in between the two of you. One such argument took it to the next level, bordering damn near abusive at some point.
"I said, no! That's final!"
"Well, whatever you say I am still not going to listen to you! You aren't going out there!" In the past few weeks, Jacob had been getting more aggressive with his strategies, so much so, that it was starting to become too dangerous for Eli to leave the Den. Yet, for about a month Eli and you had developed a plan to cut off Jacob's weapons supplies. Such a convoy that took a path from John's region through the mountains and around to the Veteran's Center. It was a very complex, but heavily calculated plan, and you knew Eli was itching to be a part of it. Better you than him though.
"I'm in charge of this operation! Not you!"
"My point exactly, do you really think its a good idea to go out on a really important mission when Jacob wants your head on a silver platter?"
"The risks are the same now as they were then."
"Don't be ridiculous, Eli! You mean something to this cause!" You stepped around the map table and closed in on him, hands balled into fists, sweat on your brow.
"And you mean something to me." He muttered under his breath, those light brown pools not leaving your own, the tension in your shoulders dropped and you sighed. Almost instantly, the few standing members in the room began to clear out, even Tammy, who was Eli's strongest lieutenant left the room. You took a deep breath, stepped even closer to him, his head tilted down as he dropped his gaze.
"We knew what we were getting into when this started, El."
"If it was any other mission, I wouldn't mind, but this one is big." He finally raised his gaze, you grabbed his cheek and formed a sad smile on your lips, thumbs caressing gently at the scratchy skin above his beard.
"That's why I must go. I am the only one who knows this plan inside out and you are too valuable to lose."
"I hate it when you do this, (Y/N)."
"Do what?" He gripped your wrists with a sigh.
"Make it seem like I don't worry about losing you either." His eyes were like dark pools into another universe, and you wished for a moment that you could dive into them and be lost forever.
....
Thud!
The metal bowl hit the ground, slop spitting out from its edges and pulling its weight to sit on its side.
"There ya' go, sinner. Same as yesterday's." The peggie grunted, rot shining in his steely grin as he then trotted away from the cage, leaving you to your devices. You sighed, feeling the slop become more and more appetizing each day was starting to become a concern. No matter how hard you tried not to eat, there was no denying the hunger that consumed you. In comparison to those locked in the cages surrounding you, while they starved and screamed for your meals, the food was a luxury. Yet, you could not give Jacob the benefit of the doubt.
You eyed the tasteless grub, blotchy and red, with chunks of unknown substances stirred into its grime. It blended well with the dirt, that had turned soggy and muddy as the rain came and went. You prayed that that same rain would grace you, where it provided some shroud of comfort in this nothingless.
You committed to timing the guards on duty, understanding the cycles of prisoners as they underwent the seven days of hell that Jacob would put them through. You hadn't yet quite figured out how to get out of the cage itself, being so in the open, with an overall lack of materials, made the process difficult. It didn't help that as they days went by, one, two, three days so far, your thoughts had become more difficult to manage. Sleep was unattainable with the screams and the grime and the consistent playing of 'Only You' at the exact time every day.
Jacob would stop by at his conveinience, you hadn't been here long enough to see him make a habit of it. He would pass through while making critiques on the work his men had been doing. He'd stop and stare for a moment, meet your solid glare with his own and then continue on. It had become no question that he knew who you were and your significance. You hoped that Eli wouldn't break under the threats you were certain that Jacob had been pushing on him. Jacob had yet to conduct any torture on you. Upon first meeting him, it wasn't difficult to distinguish who he was among the fleet of peggie scum that stood around him.
The mission was obviously a failure, an ambush occurred, one of the Whitetails had been a traitor. You were so close to escaping before a peggie had managed to trail you down to the Henbane, knocking you unconscious. You were dragged into the prison-like walls of the veterans center, awakened by the shrill of terror echoing from the cages and the raw barks of crazed wolves. It was then that Jacob revealed himself to you. He said so little, but with his eyes you could see something stirring.
"Put her in one of the cages, I will deal with her later."
"Yes, sir." He never quite dealt with you though, although you wondered many times if he ever would. It didn't matter how. You would never speak a word to him, your love for Eli was too unconditional and strong and fierce. His authority resonated with you and you made note of it as one of Jacob's defining characteristics. He was like Eli's mirror, they would be friends if it was any other universe. For this, everytime that Jacob passed through, you conduct a thorough analysis. You would go back to Eli with all the information he would need. Not only on the compound, but on the enemy.
"Not hungry again I see?" You lifted your gaze from the bowl, so lost in your thoughts. You hadn't noticed that Jacob was coming around for his daily rounds. You hid your surprise at the fact that he was actually speaking to you today. "Is the food not to your liking?" His voice was so even, but strained, with his every breath, she could see his struggle. On the surface he was a strong man, inside he had his illnesses hidden. "I hope you don't mistake my kindness for weakness..." One of his men swiftly hurled the metal door open, grabbing the bowl and scooping its messy contents back in. "If you can't respect such kindness, then you don't deserve it." The peggie pulled away and returned the door to its locked and sturdy position. It was silent, but Jacob had remained posted at the bars of the cage, arms crossed, eyes focused. "I have decided what to do with you, wouldn't you like to know?" Those last few words were almost mocking you and taunting your existence. You could play games to, if that was what Jacob wanted from you for the time being.
"Kind of disappointed you didn't know to begin with..." You snorted and shook your head. "I thought you'd at least be somewhat prepared for this kind of situation."
"Oh, you aren't all that special. Maybe this cage has made you a bit cocky."
"Its not hard, especially when you're the person I have to look at all day." Jacob kept that composed expression, but you could tell the banter was getting to him. You felt you hadn't moved in days, but the effort to stand was well worth it. You grunted as you struggled to bring yourself to your feet, legs shaking slightly under you weight, and your head spun as you stepped forward. "Now, you might as well kill me, Seed. I am not saying a word." You inhaled sharply as you reached out for the bar not to far in front of Jacob, giving him your best smile.
"I already know everything I need to. The question is whether you are worth it or not." You smiled even further, feeling like you had won. For Eli. You knew Eli wouldn't dare risk the entirety of this militia and this operation and idea, for you. No matter how much love was worth, it wasn't worth hundreds of lives and the loss of freedom. The both of you had had this discussion before, however briefly and however painful it was to admit. The risks were a burden that hovered over the relationships, but the payoff always was worth the risks.
"I can promise you I am not. Eli knows the drill and I know my mission. I am better off dead than alive."
"Oh, you must be mistaken..." Your eyebrows furrowed and you couldn't help but swallow, your throat so dry that the sting lingered for a brief moment. Jacob's lips quirked up slightly and he stepped closer to the cage, as cool and as in authority as he was when you met him. Something was wrong. "Eli doesn't know I have you, and he never will." Your lips parted, the confusion deepened, further into your soul. "In fact, he thinks I've killed you already, isn't that somethin'?" You shook your head vigorously, not quite understanding-
"But then why am I here?! Why keep me alive?" You were the one that had become frantic, panicked, you lost your composure. Thoughts rustled through your head, all of which you couldn't control in this state, with this anxiety, and exhaustion, and hunger that coursed through you. Jacob shrugged, then so casually spun on his heel and started walking. "Wait! Stop!! I am talking to you!" You braced yourself against the bars, as tears streamed down you cheeks. Your greatest fear and you couldn't do anything about it. "Why?! Stop!" Jacob disappeared into a metal door of the veteran's center, its resounding slam emanated among the never ending chorus of screaming and crying from nearby cages.
You knew why: If Jacob couldn't get Eli to react with you alive, he would have to get Eli to react to you dead. And based on Jacob's smug glimmer, it was working.

My Unnecessary Pitch of the New Hunger Games Prequel (a book that has already been written)
So I’ve given a lot of thought to the new Hunger Games prequel that Suzanne Collins is releasing next year. While there’s always some risk in resurrecting older properties, I’ve decided that I am excited for this. 15-year-old me rise.
But I’ve also been wondering, how could this story work? What will Collins do to make sure this isn’t just a Hunger Games 2.0? What will make it new and unique? How can it add to the existing story in a necessary way?
So I’ve basically come up with the format, characters, and basic plot that I think would be really cool in this potential prequel. Of course I’m not expecting any of this to actually be in the new book, but on the off chance that I actually do predict something right, I just want to write all of this down for the record.
If you’re at all curious about what I have in mind, read below. It’s long. Whoops.
Why it won’t be Hunger Games 2.0
The first Hunger Games novel has a fairly familiar formula, no doubt because the Games themselves have followed the same formula and traditions for 74 years at that point. There’s the reaping, tributes being picked, the training, the ceremonies, the interviews, the Games, the killing, and finally, one victor. Katniss, being the revolutionary that she is, broke that when both she and Peeta shared the victory.
But in order to have Katniss in the 74th Games, there can’t really be a Katniss-like character in the 10th Games. I’ve thought it over, and I just don’t think the narrator/main character (assuming Collins continues with 1st person POV) will or should be someone who is reaped as a tribute. We’re too familiar with that experience. We know the motions; we know the feelings. Additionally, it would seem all too predictable to assume that the main character we follow will end up being victor of the Games. Unless Collins does make the bold choice to kill them off. But then what? Would that make an impact on the overall story? One kid’s death among hundreds over the years?
I then thought, what if the story were told be someone at home, someone witness to the Games through the TV, the same as everyone else in the country watching? Meanwhile, they have their own fight to survive or take care of their families or whatever. Perhaps it’s someone they know, a friend or a relative, who is fighting in the Games. Basically if the Hunger Games were told from Prim’s perspective.
But we know why this won’t work. It’s boring. We are the Capitol. We enjoy the spectacle. We need to be closer to the action. Can you imagine a movie adaptation of someone just sitting, watching the Games from their home? So no, we can’t have that. Not for an entertaining story.
But if I don’t think it should be someone competing in the Games or someone watching in the districts, what does that leave...
The Young Mentor
(Sorry if the gender-neutral pronouns make it confusing. I just don’t care if these characters are gendered one way or the other.)
So here’s my pitch: Our main character is a previous victor of the Games, winning within the last couple of years (7th-9th Games). Perhaps they won when they were 15, so for this book, they are 17. Through brief flashbacks, we can discover details about their particular Games without having to go through the whole routine again. Not only that, but we can explore the aftermath, the PTSD, the shock, the changes in their lives, etc. And being a previous victor, they now have to take on the role as mentor for their district’s tributes.
Other details: they should be from a district other than 12. I just think it would be important to explore more areas of Panem, especially early Panem. Was the inequality from district to district just as extreme as it was in Katniss’ time? What if our main character was from one of the Career Districts? Or would they even be Career Districts that early on in the history of the Games? Maybe our character’s actions or experience contributed to those districts basically cheating the system. I really don’t have a particular district in mind at this time, but I just don’t want it to be 12 again.
What I especially love about this character’s age is that they would have memory of “before” the Games. The first Games would have occurred when they were 7. They could remember the distinct shift in the country, and they would be able to remember the adjustment to that life. Those are just very interesting topics to explore, since we’ve never seen life in Panem at that time, especially from the firsthand experience of a child.
The General Plot (& inevitable romance?)
So our main character is a mentor to their district’s 2 new tributes for the 10th Hunger Games. Perhaps this is their first time mentoring. Perhaps it is not, and the past year’s experience was either traumatic or just didn’t go very well. They probably still weren’t over the shock, and perhaps, like Haymitch, they were just too cynical to seriously mentor. Or maybe there is an older victor from the district who took on most of the mentorship roles. I like the idea of that relationship between 2 very new victors who don’t have any idea what they’re doing. Would it be antagonistic? Sibling-like? Would they just avoid each other? On the other hand, I also like thinking of our main character being the first victor of their district, and they have to deal with all that responsibility on their own.
Anyway, our character is a mentor, and one of the tributes reaped just happens to be someone they know very well. I’m thinking either a best friend or love interest. I also thought that they could be someone they don’t know well, but through the course of mentoring, they get to know each other and become friends/love interests/people who care about one another. But I think I’d rather they be invested from earlier on. There’s always potential for friendship at the start to turn into romance later. And one that feels slightly forbidden at that, between a mentor and a tribute.
(I don’t mean to over-emphasize the romance aspect. I noticed a lot of people looking forward to the potential romances in the new book, while others criticizing those for missing the main message of the story. I’m just trying to be realistic. This is YA, after all. There most likely will be a romantic storyline at some point. But I am trying to avoid any love triangles in this pitch.)
So our main character and their tribute friend are plotting for how to survive the Games. Obviously our character wants to keep their friend alive, ideally to victory. While in the past, they might not have cared as much, disillusioned to the whole ordeal, this time they have a reason to care about the circumstances of these Games.
As for the other tribute, the one who’s not the friend? Who knows, who cares? But really, the other tribute will probably be the focus of the other mentor (if there is one), or else will notice the favoritism toward the other tribute and feel resentful. That could brew conflict, especially once we’re within the Games themselves.
The Games Themselves
It being the 10th anniversary of the Games, you know they’re gonna make it special. Like the clock design in the 75th games, I figure this one will have some kind of special theme to it. What might that theme be, you may ask? I don’t know. I’m not writing the book. But really, I can’t worry about the specifics right now. Let’s just settle on...an arena in which you can only travel up, eventually meeting in the middle at the peak of a mountain with nowhere to go. Imagine a vertical-only course in which you have no choice but to climb, since there are cliffs and maybe even rising floodwaters that force you to keep moving. There’s a concept. I just made it up as I went. I guess that was specific.
Anyway, our main character is only concerned about the wellbeing of their friend within the arena. We get to see the behind-the-scenes of trying to connect with sponsors and influence the Gamemakers. Sure, there will still be some of that watching-the-Games-on-TV stuff, but our main character will still be much more directly involved with the action than if they were just stuck in their district. Also, we might see more daily life in the Capitol while our main character deals there.
Within the Games themselves, you know how it goes. People die, get killed. Our character’s friend will do all right for themselves, making it pretty close to the last few tributes in the arena. But I do expect that the friend will die. I know, tragic. But again, it just feels too predictable to make the tribute we focus on the most win the game. The circumstance of the friend’s death could be as simple as slipping and falling. They could’ve been killed by someone from another district. But now I’m liking the idea that they could be killed by their fellow tribute, the one ignored by our mentor. This tribute might end up actually winning the Games, causing a conflict of emotions in our main character as this new victor (who they’ll regularly have to be around from here on out) is the reason their friend is dead, yet they are expected to be proud that their district has yet another victor.
And now I come back to the idea of the main character being from a Career District, before the “Career” part even became a thing. Maybe seeing their friend die and feeling like they could’ve done more makes them feel guilty or responsible. Maybe they see that their mentorship wasn’t good enough. Something triggers them to want to be better, to make sure that deaths like their friend’s don’t happen again. Maybe they institute the “Career” ideology and promote it through the district, preparing the children there to fight to win. And there you have the start of a beast of the Hunger Games.
Other cool things that could be included
As I’ve said, I think a look at life in the Capitol would be interesting. Who’s leader/president at this time, and what are they like? Surely it’s not still Snow. I’ve had thoughts that he could be older than he looks, what with all his surgeries. But according to the wiki page, Snow was 1 when the 1st Games took place. That would make him 10 in this book. Possibly a cameo of a weird child in the Capitol? Maybe. (Imagine the book being narrated by him, a 10-year-old kid who would grow up to be a dictator, having no concept of life before the Games existed...scary.)
I wonder where their technology is at this point in Panem’s history. During Katniss’ time, it is quite advanced, but what about 64 years before that time? Where are they in technological and biological advancements? Do they even have forcefields around the tributes’ living quarters so they don’t jump and kill/hurt themselves? Maybe something happens in this book that gives them the reason to install those...
Speaking of Katniss, I know it would be cool to tie it back to her in some Skywalkerian way. But I actually don’t think that’s necessary, and I just don’t want a rehash of her same story. Perhaps some allusions are fine, but there’s enough time and distance from Katniss that I see very little reason to make it about her.
It’s late, and I really don’t know what more there is to say. I’m excited for the story, regardless of what it will actually involve. If it’s anything like my little prediction, great! But I’m not the author. And I trust that Suzanne will tell the story that she feels is the most necessary to be told.

Word Count: 4K
Summary: The people were tired of the unjust ruling of the king and wanted a change, therefore, starting an all out war. What happens when your neighbor, Min Yoongi, shows you exactly what he knows about this underground revolution when he takes you under his wing?
or...
Yoongi is full of secrets and one day has no choice but to reveal just what he’s been up to.
Warnings: Swearing, violence, blood mention, death, torture, PTSD
A/N: This was supposed to be a quick drabble / oneshot with these prompts but I’m actual trash. Also my summary is really terrible, I just didn’t want to spoil anything !! Sorry :(
Prompts: "Death is the only god who comes when you call."
"Do you think you are alive because you can fight? You are alive because of what I did to save you."
That was the night when I finally understood why people fear silence
"Stop," he said, his breath ragged. "Please."
There was no official start or announcement to when the revolution took place. People grew tired of the king's constant self-absorbed actions: using money for his luxuries rather than the people's food; people getting murdered on the street if they ever dare whisper a hint of rebellion against the Great King. The townsfolk were tired of the selfishness, of the mass killings, and they wished to put a stop to it. Outbreaks of revolt broke out occasionally throughout the land and word spread fast that the people had actually won, that they could actually fight back. There were hushed murmurs of an underground rebellion spreading, but it seemed only a rumor to you. There was no way that war was actually breaking out, right?
You couldn't be more wrong.
As more time went on, the more the people grew tired and frustrated and craved a change. Riots started and anarchy broke with people's hunger for a better leader, a better system. Death became a common occurrence and many became savage, only defending themselves and killing any that may pose a threat. Many people, too scared of what this war would bring, hid themselves to the shadows and subjected themselves away from any of the widespread violence. You were cut off from many friends, all becoming too scared or just seemingly vanishing in mid air. The only person you occasionally saw -- even after the revolt began -- was your neighbor, Min Yoongi.
Yoongi typically kept to himself before the war broke out but you would still have brief encounters with him. As war time began approaching, you saw more of the (dyed) blonde haired boy due to both of your parents meeting up and visiting each other before the crisis. You were never too sure just what they were up to, but you constantly had to spend time around the boy.
Sometimes you wonder if your parents knew that they would be killed. Other times you try to push that thought as far back into your mind as you could.
Rumors spread to the king that your parents had been conspiring against him and therefore were seen as a threat to be eliminated. You were left on your own after they never returned home. Not one person seemed to care; your parents being just more senseless corpses added to an increasing death count everyday. However, those were your parents, your home, your everything, yet they were taken from you. And no one gave two shits. That was when you made your first vow to kill that bastard king yourself.
Ms. Min soon became aware that her friends had been murdered by the king's men which caused you to have no family; therefore, she took you under her wing. She brought you into her home and fed and provided for you as best as she could with the crisis pounding on her door every moment. You were forced to spend more time with Yoongi due to this and you soon began to realize that maybe he knew a lot more than he let on.
He tended to disappear frequently at night and whenever he did show up, his sleeves were rolled up and soaked with blood while his eyes drooped into little dark pockets. You never questioned the boy, opting to only stare and wonder.
However, as more time passed, the more it seemed you and the Min's were being backed into a corner. You often noticed the king's soldiers wandering around you, watching you, walking outside the house. They were suspicious of you all. They wanted you dead.
At some point it felt as if you all were completely trapped, left to be measly prey to simply toy with. The king loved playing games and you were over it. Yoongi apparently thought the same as you. One night, after a solider had actually approached Ms. Min, Yoongi grew frustrated and finally opted to reveal just where he had been going off to in the night to the two of you: a hidden building that belonged to the Resistance. A place that you all had to escape to now in order to survive.
Yoongi was a part of the organization that wanted to overthrow the king and the government, and now you were too.
~
It took a while for you to get comfortable with your new surroundings, to become comfortable with all the new people. You had become a different person after your parents' murder and it was difficult to be suddenly thrown into a new area with new faces. The only people you felt safe around was Yoongi and his mother. They were often the ones you found yourself drifting towards when everyone was to meet in the Main Hall for meals and meetings. You usually sat next to one of them or opted for eating in the quiet and emptiness of your room when they weren't there. You expected Yoongi to bitch, scolding you for not talking to people, for not contributing. However, he never once did.
Two weeks passed since your initial coming to the underground revolution and you had yet to talk to anybody besides the Min's. Yoongi became scarce after a few days and you wondered what happened to the pale boy, but you never dare asked. You spent your time mostly in your room or around Ms. Min. She became a mother figure to you after you lost your real mother and she never pressured you into anything but, in fact, made you feel more at ease. She was warm and safe and you appreciated her beyond belief for caring for you. When you met with her, you didn't speak much, but she didn't seem to mind, for she did all the talking anyway. She always spoke highly of Yoongi and what he was like before the uprising. She reminisced of his childhood. Her stories always put a smile on your face when she dished the embarrassing tellings of her son and what he used to be like. One day she spoke of getting a job within the Rebellion Base, as a nurse and cook. Her face lit up when she mentioned this to you, proud of the way she was contributing. You wondered if maybe you contributed to the Rebellion, would you feel happy too?
There was a morning when you finally spotted Yoongi, eating alone in the main hall. He looked exhausted and you wished you knew just what he had been up to. You tentatively approached the table, hesitant to approach him after so many days. Giving up on your hesitance, you sighed as you plopped down in front of him, startling him out of his seat.
"Jesus Christ, Y/N!"
"Hey, Yoongi. Can I ask you something?"
~
You aren't quite sure why you asked him. You aren't quite sure why you thought on a brash impulse instead of thinking things through like you normally would, yet here you are. And there's no going back.
You watch as hundreds of fighters in training spar and duel with one another as others look on, judging who is the strongest and therefore, the biggest challenge and competitor. You watch as people your age bark out orders to others and demonstrate perfect attacks to use against the king and his army. You watch as kids too young hold guns and fire them off with a steady hand and deadly eyes.
Just what did you volunteer for?
You followed in Ms. Min's footsteps and asked to be a part of the fighting units; to train to fight and kill any solider that dare protect that rotten king.
Your training was supposed to last weeks, maybe even months. You trained from sunrise to sundown, meaning you didn't see Yoongi nor his mother as much, if at all. You still lacked to communicate with anybody, choosing to stay to your own self and thoughts and worry about your own progress. You often time felt many eyes burn holes into you, wanting to know your secret, questions burning on their tongues: Were you mute? Where did you come from? How do you know the Min's? You never answered their silent questions.
Some days felt like too much and you never really knew where to turn to. You felt lost and alone, your reserved nature becoming too heavy and just ripping past your skin trying to escape and come to the light. Your mind was too laden for you to handle on your own. Luckily, Yoongi always seemed to sense when these nights would occur and would seek you out. He took you to the rooftop of the building.
He explained that this was his quiet place and where he often went. He enjoyed the stars; He said that they were so prominent because this was one of the few parts of the land that wasn't completely taken over and destroyed by rotten humans. He didn't glance at your reaction as he made himself comfortable: laying down on his back, his arms folding underneath his head as he sighed a breath of relief and closed his eyes. You followed suit, laying next to him but keeping your eyes open, enjoying the sight displayed in front of you and sniffing in the piney wood scent that filled and tickled your nose. Yes. This was perfect.
You glanced at Yoongi. His chest was rising evenly with his soft breaths. His lips were pouted and red from how much he constantly bit at them. His hair looked soft as it brushed against the pale and smooth skin on his forehead. This was the first time you actually admired the boy you've known for so long and you realized that-- goddamn! -- he was beautiful. You wouldn't tell him that though, he'd only snort and grimace.
His eyes shot open, almost as if he knew you were staring, and rolled to meet your own. After a few long moments, he flickered his eyes to look back at the starlit sky.
"How have you been holding up? How's your training?" He questioned, his elbow brushing against yours as he adjusted his position.
"As best as someone can with having to completely start a new life." You breathed out, a wispy and dry chuckle escaping your throat as you thought of all the terrible events that have occurred in the past few months.
Neither of you spoke, too distracted by your own pounding thoughts. Finally, a thought popped into your mind. "Yoongi? Do you believe those religious folks in the town? The ones that say this war won't happen with God watching over us?"
You heard his long inhale as he contemplated before answering, "This war has already started, Y/N. Many people just refuse to believe it and choose to ignore it, but it's begun...." His words trailed off and he thought for a few more seconds, "and Death is the only god who comes when you call."
You hesitated to say your thoughts, knowing Yoongi was the opposite of you: cool, collected, and calm. He always knew what to say and how to keep you straight. Maybe he wouldn't understand your worries or your fears that your thoughts conjured.
You turned your head to face him. His eyes were closed and his eyelashes fluttered across his light skin. His natural roots were starting to come out from their hiding behind the hair dye. His long fingers were laid out underneath his head which connected to his exposed, intricately veiny arms. Yoongi was beautiful and also the only person you trusted, the only person you knew. You shouldn't fear this man. And you didn't.
"Truthfully, I'm over all this bloodshed. I'm sick of the violence and constant fighting and the gunshots and all the screams and yells," you rambled, "but honestly? I'm terrified of it. It keeps me up all night sometimes. I feel like the shot...echoes around my room and inside my head. As if I'm there, and I just watched the person die in front of my eyes."
Yoongi revealed his brown irises at your confession. He said nothing, yet the look he gave you was everything and enough for you to instantly relax. Maybe that was the reason you became close to the boy in the first place: no words needed to be exchanged in order for an understanding to arise between the two of you. Yoongi seemed to understand every part and depth of you, without you uttering any worry. He knew you, inside and out. And he could communicate with you with just his sweet chocolate and cinnamon eyes.
You're not sure just how long you two laid there, only staring at one another as if having a conversation.
Finally, Yoongi pulled himself up and rubbed at the back of his neck. He twisted his head to look at you. "You're out in the field tomorrow. You should rest up."
He stands and helps you to your own feet, his fingers lingering against yours before releasing and walking back inside the bunker.
You truly needed Yoongi in a way you had yet to understand.
~
Your face stung endlessly and your body was sore beyond measures. You wouldn't call your field day a success necessarily but you weren't too bad, so that was enough for you. Your hand was pressed against your face, trying to prevent any more blood from seeping out of the cut across your cheek as you walked down the dimly lit corridors to find Yoongi. You were excited to talk to him, tell him about your experience, and even maybe get praise and approval from the boy. What you weren't expecting was to find Yoongi sat in a large office, sitting behind a beautiful wooden desk talking to a woman you recognized as one of the leaders of the rebellion.
You peeked through the crack of the door, intently watching and listening the exchange.
"Sir Yoongi, do you really think this is okay? Why are you doing all of this for Y/N anyway? I mean, seriously?! Making special preparations for her field day? What is this?!" The woman practically screeched, her arms thrown up in the air before she cleared her throat and regained herself.
Yoongi had his signature straight face on, where he showed absolutely no reaction, no emotion, nothing. "If you're done now, Ara," The way he spoke to the leader, as if she was a nuisance, made you wonder just how much power Yoongi held. "They weren't special preparations just for her. Many people have needed and requested a demo field day." His voice was icy and his tone sent chills down your own spine, even being outside the room.
"Is that what we're calling it now? A demo field day?" She laughed, "We both know that she wasn't ready for a real field day, hence why you requested that the trainers go easy on her. I'm sure your precious Y/N still got her ass kicked."
Yoongi's lips pursed but before he could utter another word, Ara cut him off.
"To think that the co-leader of this whole organization would allow such special treatment. Just what would Hye think?" You could practically hear the smirk in her snappy tone.
You recognized the name she mentioned as the leader of this uprising. Did that mean Yoongi was actually one of the leaders too? He was a part of this rebellion starting? Your parents had been murdered for fear of them being a part of the revolt, yet it was your next door neighbor that caused this whole thing.
An audible gasp left your lips, your hands automatically reaching to cover your mouth. Too late. Yoongi's eyes instantly found yours and you thought you could see the visible change in his eyes as his eyebrows rose to meet his hairline.
You thought you saw him stand up from his desk but you were already gone to confirm. Your legs carried you as far away from that office as fast as possible, your blood boiling. You were sure steam was already shooting out of your ears like they did in cartoons.
"Y/N! Oh for fucks sake! Y/N, just stop already!" Yoongi's shouts were exasperated as he rushed to catch up to you. His footsteps were loud and quick and you could only imagine what the boy looked like when running -- an activity he was unknown for, yet here he was, running to you.
His fingers clasped around the flesh of your arm, tugging slightly to pull you back. Your body practically flung out of his grasp at the contact and you were sure you radiated pure venom.
"Were you ever going to tell me?! You were the one that the soldiers were looking for! Not my parents! Since when the fuck did you run this whole operation? Why didn't you tell me?!" Your voice was becoming more desperate the longer you went on. "And what's with this whole field day bullshit? Huh?! You think I'm so weak that I can't handle myself? That I need you to look after me?"
Yoongi's almond eyes narrowed, his voice even. "I'm not responsible for your parents, Y/N. I helped to start this organization to avoid people getting senselessly killed -- you should know that better than anyone. And Y/N? No offense but you can't handle yourself, that's why I had to do something about your field day." He shrugged his shoulders, seemingly not caring at all about the affect his words had on you.
"I can handle myself perfectly fine without you, Yoongi! My field day would've been just fine-"
"Look at you! You would've been dead if you were fighting the king's soldiers! They have no mercy! You weren't ready!" His voice became more strained, his fingers tugging at his blonde tips.
"I'm fine! I did just fine on my own! I shouldn't have even accepted your mom's request after my parents died. I could've handled everything by myself. Unbelievable!"
A dry chuckle escaped Yoongi's throat as he titled his head back. His eyes were dark while his hair hung over them, a threatening aura surrounding him. "Do you think you are alive because you can fight? You are alive because of what I did to save you." He had his signature tone back on, the one where he showed no emotion because he didn't care.
Before you even had the chance to respond, he turned on his heel and walked back the way you two originally came. Your teeth clacked and ground against each other as you tried to bite back your frustrated scream. You trusted Yoongi with everything and yet, he hid everything from you. For months. He considered you weak. Vexation clawed at your skin, trying to break free as irritation filled your veins. You watched the leader walk away, trying to hold back every urge you had to just yell in his face and tell him off. However, you turned your own back and stomped your way back to your room, releasing everything within you into your pillow.
Eventually your throat grows tired and raw and you have no choice but to give it a break. The new silence in your room intimidates you and you're left to only focus on the noise coming from outside the house's walls: the gunfire, the bombs, the explosions, the constant screams and yells of soldiers and victims. The sound of death was a regular occurrence, one that consumed you and chilled you to your bone. It shook you to your core and made your blood practically freeze in its wake. You couldn't help but flinch everytime another grenade went off, your eyes squeezing shut and your head filling with past memories:
"Mommy! What's going on? Why does this keep happening?" Your high pitched voice rung out through the room as you rushed to your mother's comforting and safe arms that radiated warmth. The soldiers footsteps were growing louder, their gunshots continuous, and fear had paralyzed your younger self. You didn't understand why this happened every few weeks. You didn't understand why so many of your neighbors had to be killed.
Your mother constantly expressed that the king was trying to rid out spies in the land, not wanting any type of betrayal or overthrowing to take place. Your child-like mind didn't understand her point of view, instead, you only saw your friends crying at the marketplace due to losing their family. You only heard the gunshots and yells. You only saw the soldiers dragging away the bodies and leaving behind a mass of blood behind. You only understood death.
You realize now that your parents only said such things to protect you. They only wished to remain a family, no matter the dark and violent times to eventually occur. However, the king was merciless and never gave a shit about any of his people. No matter what your parents would've done, they would've met the same fate; however, you were another story. You realize now that your parents did everything for you. Every step and every path of action they took was all to keep you alive and to avoid their cruel fate. They knew what was to come, but avoided it with you by befriending the Min's. They had to have known Yoongi's secret.
Yoongi.
The man could make your blood boil and want to do nothing but rip your hair out piece by piece but he did care for you. Yoongi had never once shown an interest in anything or anyone, yet he had taken to you. He would've left you for dead, to be continuous prey to the king and his soldiers but instead he took you under his wing and gave you a chance to survive. Your parents respected him for a reason and now you knew why: he had wanted to protect you and was willing to take any extra step to do just that. Yoongi wasn't responsible for your parents death, you knew that. You always knew that. You just let anger get the better of you. You let frustration override your clear sense of mind. You both knew you weren't ready yet for what a real battle would be like and he cared enough to allow you to learn and grasp it, not just watch you die on your first day.
Your eyes eventually grew heavy and filled with sleep and you turned over to the darkness, listening to the never-ending sound of violence as if it were a lullaby.
~
Things were still a bit tense. You weren't sure if things would officially go back to the way they were with Yoongi but you tried nonetheless. You would constantly sit with him when it came to meals but neither of you spoke much. Maybe you both were too prideful and stubborn for your own good. Either way, you eat in silence with the boy packed in a cafeteria with too much chatter and too many people. Until one day when Yoongi is no where to be found. No blonde heads stuck out among the crowd and you grew increasingly more uncomfortable the longer you stood standing, eyeing the mass of people looking for Yoongi.
Eventually you gave up and left the area, determined to find the blonde boy wherever he may be in this large hideaway house. You wandered the halls, searched his bedroom but still could not find him anywhere. Until you actually thought about where he might go.
Your legs carried you to the rooftop, the spot you knew Yoongi would be at. A head of blue hair met your eyes and you practically jumped in your skin when it turned and shown Yoongi's soft profile.
You amble up to the boy, opting to sit right next to him. You don't need to look at him to see he's watching the sky. (Although there were no stars out, you knew his eyes were filled with them.)
You two eat in silence once again, but the atmosphere is different this time. Unlike the crowded and large cafeteria, it's only the both of you alone. There is no senseless chatter as backdrop and no flashes of movement to distract you -- only you and Yoongi.
A smile grazes your lips because although there are no words spoken, something has changed between you and the now-blue haired boy. Things were back to how they were before your argument. It was an unspoken agreement of forgiveness and understanding and you basked in it with your best friend by your side.

13x01 - Episode Review - Part 2
"Nougat Winchester” and narrative mirrors in 13x01
It has taken me forever to finish this part of my review to the extent that we have already had another episode before I finished it! But rather than curse my inability to focus I’m gonna press on and complete this before I start my 13x02 review.
Ah Jack, Jack our little nougat Jack. The way the fandom has embraced you is very touching. The internet screams of “PROTECT HIM” certainly show that Alexander Calvert has done an exceptional job of “pulling a Misha” and making us fall in love with him by the end of his first scene. I was not expecting that one bit.
I’ll be honest and say that over the hiatus I haven’t paid too much attention to him. I did read some of the meta and speculation that @tinkdw and others put out there, but it was never really something I focused my thoughts on. I figured he would be another character that would test the team free will dynamic and would be a good avenue for the writers to comment on the concepts of nature vs nurture. I remember reading some speculation once the episode titles first came out about “The Scorpion and the Frog” and anyone who knows that story knows very well that the title itself foreshadows Jack going darkside – to his own potential destruction. (The scorpion, in carrying out its own “nature” and stinging the frog that carried it – not only doomed the frog, but doomed itself as well.)
Jack has officially won me over though. He was a charming innocent and funny character, and I think his interactions with Clark brought a lot of light to an otherwise terribly angsty and painfully heart breaking episode. (#bringbackClark2k17)
But what really blew me away was how both Jack AND Clark were such OBVIOUS mirrors for Dean and Cas and to a lesser extent to Sam. It amused me to no end. Therefore this review will focus on those mirrors, and what they mean.
Long post under the cut
Jack is a narrative mirror of Team Free Will
This is the important thing to remember. He is all of them, and will have aspects of all them characterised into his personality as we continue to get to know the character in the coming episodes.
I am sure that there are already thousands of words of meta on this topic (since I’m over a week late to the game) but I’m gonna throw my hat in the ring anyway.
The most obvious mirror we get from Jack is for Castiel. I have said already that Castiel was all over every single scene of 13x01. That Dabb didn’t want the audience forgetting him for a second. (thank you Dabb you wonderful man). I have already seen the many gifsets floating around comparing all of Jack’s “Cas” moments to the original famous Cas moments in the show - and we know that this carries over into episode 2 as well.
Firstly, we can see immediately in the way Jack is dressed that he is coded as a Cas mirror:
Look at the tan jacket, the pale blue shirt, visually he is already a mini Cas. Remember they could have dressed him in ANYTHING. They chose a tan Jacket and pale blues. They chose these colours because this show has a visual library and certain things always mean certain things. Put someone in a tan coat or jacket and they are a Cas mirror. This is how these things work.
(the bulls horns hand symbol does however have Lucifer connotations which ties him to his biological father whether he likes it or not - but more on that when I go on about signs and symbols).
Probably the most “Cas” like moment in this episode was this one:
(x)
Poor baby is just as literal as his dad:
(x)
But there are many more. The constant confused expression for starts:
(I’m still waiting for the moment he actually does the head tilt as we all know it’s coming)
The scene with the candy was delightful - and gave him the fandom pet name of “Nougat Winchester” which I have stolen from Lizzy as my new tag for him because its so fitting.
(and we like you sweetheart)
(on that note - I did find it interesting that Jack isn’t able to answer the Sheriff when she asks him for a last name. Surely he knows his mother’s name was Kline? Why didn’t he give her that? We were all calling him “Jack Kline” over hiatus, but now it doesn’t seem like its the case - personally I think this is because he will indeed get “adopted” as a Winchester and will use the surname at some point in future - probably in front of Lucifer causing a hell of a lot of anger. God knows the show has pointed out enough times over the past season that Castiel is a Winchester - leading to mainstream media giving him the last name:
Why yes I did add my destiel adjacent quiz results to meta about Jack. I have no regrets. :P
Anyway, as I was saying Jack is a huge Cas mirror, and his adorably gluttonous love of candy was a call back to:
Perhaps we can once again talk about angels and addiction and how this may affect Jack? Because they really don’t have the self control that human’s do (even though Cas was affected by famine at this particular moment).
So why is Jack a mirror for Cas? Well this is probably the first clue:
I screamed the first time I watched this moment. I think we all expected it to remain subtextual. We all know that this season will explore the role of fatherhood and how it affects each character, but this was so much more than we were expecting. Jack is a Cas mirror because he has majorly imprinted on Cas from the womb. He is first and foremost a Cas mirror because Cas is on his mind from the moment of his birth, and this reveal confirms it. Every question of “Father?” that he says so ominously in the first part of the episode is directed at Castiel. It is Castiel he was looking for, not Lucifer.
I did say that Castiel was in every second of this episode, forcing the audience to continuously remember him and his importance - and this moment made me jump for joy.
The way the episode continuously plays with the audiences expectations is really interesting. They want us to assume the worst of Jack, but each time he surprises us by delighting us with some adorable Cas like thing. Jack says “I’m hungry” and we are supposed to feel uneasy about that because just 2 seasons ago we had another very hungry powerful child who fulfilled her hunger by eating human souls. We are supposed to worry about Clark in that moment, and to follow the Sheriff down the darkened halls and flickering lights terrified of what Jack has done - but he is sitting there cross legged on the floor with Clarke surrounded by candy wrappers and proclaiming how much he likes nougat. Its a lovely moment and it forces the audience to change their minds completely.
When Jack reveals that he thinks Cas is his father, our reaction is much the same as Sam’s, but we fall for him just like Sam does, and it sets the season up nicely because for once the audience is NOT supposed to be on Dean’s side here. (I’ll talk about this more in my review of episode 2 where it is more relevant but basically, we are supposed to feel sorry for Dean because we know that he isn’t seeing things clearly. We are supposed to root for Jack and be on Sam’s side in all this, and to see Dean as a character shrouded in a deep grief and anger)
I love that they made it textual that Cas is the father. (major flashbacks to 11x06 right now though)
“Jenny, he is not ready to be a father!”
I’ll continue jumping for joy over this as the season goes forward, but for now I want to talk about how Jack is also a mirror for Dean. Because he is and it again, wasn’t subtle.
(x)
A young boy on a quest to find his father, to have to accept the death of his mother right at the start, and who is forced to grow up far quicker than he should? Yeah that sounds about right.
Whilst Dean and Jack seem at odds with each other from the start, they are both set up as mirrors in their joint grief for Castiel. That heart wrenching moment at the end of the episode where Dean is wrapping Castiel’s body for the pyre comes only moments after we get to see Jack’s own grief for his mother so touchingly portrayed as a grip to her covered foot. Both Dean and Jack are only shown touching the feet of those they lost, there is probably some deep symbolic meaning to that linked to Christ and washing the feet of his disciples or something but I’ll leave that meta to someone far more versed in bible lore than me.
We know that in episode 2 the Dean parallels get much stronger, with Dean being the second Winchester (after Cas) that he imprints upon. I’ll talk about this in my episode 2 review, and instead leave this here. Jack is Dean for his grief, and his ties to humanity, and how he has been robbed of his childhood. I am interested to see how they go about keeping Jack innocent. He is in the body of a man, but his mind is still so childlike. I hope that he becomes a symbol for Dean’s own innocence in a theme started in 12x11.
Finally, the one touched on the least in episode 1 but probably the most significant to Jack’s own arc going forward - Jack as a mirror for Sam.
What so far is probably the least obvious in terms of mirror’s is actually the most obvious in terms of story lines. There is a reason Sam so desperately wants to believe in Jack, believe that he is good and can do good things. Because Sam has been in this situation himself.
Sam’s entire early series arc was about fighting the darkness inside himself, fighting against his own dark powers that came from a place of evil, and resisting Lucifer’s pull. Sam’s been there. So of course Sam is rooting for the kid. Sam and Jack have the biggest connection in terms of their connection to Lucifer. Sam immediately tries to see things through Jack’s point of view. Yes, he’s not as tied down with grief and anger as Dean is - Sam hasn’t just lost the love of his life (though the deancas parallels to SamJess are very strong throughout 12x23 and 13x01 as well).
Sam still has hope, because he see’s himself in Jack. He knows he managed to resist that dark power, and he has faith that Jack can to. I expect the Sam/Jack mirrors to come through far more strongly in episode 3 when we see them interacting together without Dean there to cause conflict, so it will be interesting if we get to delve more into Sam’s past and trauma this season, as it’s about time the show focused on his issues around Lucifer.
Clark as the exposition for Cas’s return... among other things
I could talk for hours about Jack and everything he stands for, but right now I just need to add this about Clark, because boy did he pull focus. In an episode so heavy with grief and full of reminders of Castiel as well as establishing Jack into the audiences mind, Clark comes out of no where and almost steals the show (almost).
When we are introduced to Clark only 5 minutes into the episode, he is mucking around with the menu changing every item into something ‘butt’ related. I could meta on this but tbh its so very on the nose that I don’t think it’s needed. You all know exactly what Burgers and Butts are making us think of. Its juvenile but its hilarious (my personal favourite is the salty butt combo - a bit of salt is a good thing especially in destiel fandom!).
So skipping past those obvious jokes, what interests me most about Clark is this:
“He’s fired me like seven times... and I keep coming back.”
Look at this face! Dark hair, Blue eyes, extremely charming? Hello Cas mirror!
also:
4x22 - Killed by Raphael
5x22 - Killed by Lucifer
7x01 - Killed by returning the souls (Dean thought he was dead before he healed himself)
7x02 - Killed by Leviathan
8x02 - Left for dead in Purgatory
9x03 - Killed by April
12x23 - Killed by Lucifer
At this point in the show, Dean has watched Cas “die” seven times. I don’t think the above was an accident.
The fact that Clark then says “Around here, I’m untouchable” is kind of hilarious. Since Clark later gets stabbed with an angel blade - AND SURVIVES.
However for the rest of the episode, Clark is so much more of a Dean mirror, to Jack’s Cas mirror. Clark shows Jack his humanity. He makes Jack happy enough for his powers to make the lights flicker (honestly if this doesn’t make the whole grace orgasm blowing out the lights head canon real I don’t know what does). He feeds him candy, jokes around with him, and is generally such a playful and charming character that we can’t quite help but associate him with Dean.
I love how Clark’s mum the Sheriff tells the police officer that “There’s no such thing as weird, everyone is normal in their own way” because isn’t that just a massive shout out to anyone who is slightly ‘different’? All of us who identify with this show about the ‘weird’ things because we are a little bit weird ourselves? Whose to say what is normal and whats not?
What I love about this line is that it backs up my claim that the show is trying to prepare the audience in a way for things they may not expect... especially the part of the audience that watches for macho men, guns and death - the Republicans, the dudebros, the right wingers, the assholes who think that to fit in in this world you have to fit into some idealistic little box. Well, believe me this show has a few surprises in line for those people. I can’t wait for it to all come to a head.
Team Free Will
Ultimately, what 13x01 has shown us is that Jack is a combination of ALL of team free will. He is his own person of course, but he shares elements and traits with all of them. I think it’s so fitting that so soon after Dean’s memorable speech to Cas in 12x19:
“You, Me, and Sam, We’re just better together. So now that you’re back, lets go Team Free Will”
In which Dean brought this term back for the first time in canon since it was used in 5x13, do we now have a character who is the embodiment of all three of them. For me, it seems that this was intentional and that Dean’s words really were the truth - that once Cas comes back, all three of them will be able to save Jack from himself, along with any other nastiness that comes their way. It is my absolute belief that the moral of season 13 will be that Dean, Sam and Cas need each other, and need to work together in order to defeat whatever evil comes their way. Jack is proof of that. How he mirrors all three of them, and is at this point in time, internally divided:
He has Cas’s innocence, naivety and endearing curious nature, as well as his angelic power.
He has Dean’s humanity, his desire to be good, and a need to reach out to people and bond with them.
He has Sam’s inner darkness, linked to his emotions and leading him to question his own monstrous nature. His struggle between his own inner good and evil.
When these three sides of him conflict, it will cause problems. Just like how conflict between Dean, Sam and Cas is usually the primary cause of disaster in the supernatural universe. Jack’s fate, and his ability to control himself and his opposing sides, is intrinsically tied to Team Free Will themselves coming together and actually working as a team once again.
And I bloody well can’t wait to watch this story play out.

Meet Jessie Hotchkiss!!!
Of all the people I've gotten to interview over the last year or so, I would have to say Jessie Hotchkiss was one of the sweetest people I've gotten to know. I met Jessie on Twitter after entering the 2013 Acuvue Contest (see my entry here!). It turns out this 19-year-old, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native happens to have a lot in common with me. Not only do we share a love for music, but I also found out that she also has relatives that live near to where I live. Someday I hope to meet Jessie in person and jam out with her. In case you were wondering, Jessie, happens to be the first out of seven people to be chosen as winners of the 2013 Acuvue Contest. To learn more about Jessie, her music, and her adventures with Acuvue, please follow her on her Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Ask.FM pages, or Youtube channel. P.S. While on YouTube, don't forget to watch Jessie's winning audition video for the Acuvue Contest or Jessie's Mentorship Episode with Demi Lovato!!!

Did you grow up in a musical family? What age/instrument did you learn first?
Absolutely not! My sister was the first one to start learning an instrument in 6th grade. Once I got into 6th grade, I started playing the trumpet. So I was about 11 years old.
When you found out that you won the Acuvue contest, how did you/your family and friends react?
I actually got a call around 7 am on a Saturday and ignored it because it said “unknown," so I ignored it and went back to bed. They called again about an hour after that and left a voice mail. But I woke up around 9 forgetting about the voice mail and checked my email first, and that’s where I saw (1) in my inbox and looked. I had to stare at it for a good 30 seconds before I realized that it wasn’t spam! I literally started sobbing and ran into my mom’s room and told her that I won! She didn’t know what contest I was talking about because I enter a ton! So I explained and she couldn’t believe it! I then realized that it was Acuvue trying to call me and I listened to the voicemail. They told me to respond to the email to make sure I’m aware that I’m a winner. My friends didn’t really understand the concept of the contest. They were excited but they didn’t realize how big of a deal it was until the mentorship video came out. It still feels like it didn’t happen, but I’m glad it did!
What was it like working with Demi Lovato? Was she the mentor that you originally hoped for? What's the best advice that she gave you?
It was pretty surreal. It's like when you only see someone online and on TV, it’s almost like you don’t believe they exist (as weird as that sounds). But she is super sweet and genuine and a goofball. She had this aura that she gave off that immediately made me feel comfortable. I was nervous for about the first minute of meeting her, but after that, I was totally fine. She honestly was the reason I entered. I told myself I’d be content with whoever was chosen for me as long as I overcame my fears by the end of the day, but I didn’t actually think I was going to be set up with her. It’s funny because I originally wasn’t going to enter just cause it’s such a huge contest and I thought, “What are even the chances?” but I’m glad I at least tried because you have just as much of a chance as getting chosen as anyone else does as long as you enter. As for advice, I feel really dumb but I honestly can’t remember a whole lot…it was an overwhelming day overall. But something I learned that day is to just own it up on stage. You already know exactly what you’re supposed to do, so why be nervous about it?
Why do you think your video was chosen? For people who want to try out next year, what advice would you give them while making their videos?
I’m honestly still trying to figure that out. The Acuvue crew has told me so many times that it really stood out and I was obviously chosen for a reason. When I watched it back when I was about to submit the video, I didn’t think it was all that great. But when I compared it to the others, something did seem a little different about mine, and I’m not just saying that I truly believe that. For anyone who wants to try out next year, you really want to try to make it stand out. What I did is I watched the submissions for the 5 previous winners from 2012 and asked myself, “What is it about the videos that made them stand out?” I literally watched them about 5 times each. What I found out is they didn’t get off the topic of what they are trying to accomplish. I actually watched every single submission for the 2013 contest and what a lot of people did was talk about their pasts and how maybe they’ve been bullied or depressed (etc.) and they don’t focus on what their dream is. Acuvue wants to know about it and HOW bad you want it, they don’t want your life story and then only one sentence about what you want to do. They want to know how you got started with it and how much you want to progress in either your passion or how to get over the fears that are preventing you from taking your passion further. So I’d suggest that you leave out your life story and focus on your dream; THAT is what they want to know about.
Has life changed for you much since winning the Acuvue contest? What does a current day in your life look like?
As for just day by day, not really. Although since the mentorship I got to attend the 2013 Teen Choice Awards and got to walk the blue carpet (which was a guaranteed prize along with the mentorship). But I also got to do a separate event with my mentor that no one else got to do. So that definitely wasn’t expected. Being able to go to LA three times this year has been amazing; I just wish I could stay there, haha! I actually recently saw Fifth Harmony in concert and got recognized by about 15 people. They just congratulated me and/or told me how jealous they are, which is something I’ve been hearing a lot lately. A typical day for me consists of waking up and going to classes (it differs every day since I’m in college so it’s not the same schedule every day) and depending on what day it is, I go to work, come home and do homework. Then usually play guitar or keyboard till about midnight and may make a cover once a week or so. It’s not too eventful. Most of my friends go to schools far away so I don’t really have anyone to hang with here.
What was it like going to the Teen Choice Awards? Did you run into a lot of celebrities?
I did! It was honestly one of the craziest/surreal things ever (even more so than the mentorship). Our day started around 6-7 am (depending on when we got called to the room to get makeup done) and it didn’t end till about midnight when we got back to our hotel and chilled on the rooftop. The day started with us all one by one getting makeup done. After, we went into the room next door to get our wardrobes (which we picked out the day prior out of a crazy amount of choices)! Then we had to go downstairs to do a photoshoot! I ended up being the last one so it was a big rush trying to run all over the hotel and whatnot. But the photoshoot was very interesting considering I’m so awkward on camera. But they played Demi in the background which made it better, haha! Once that was taken care of, all of us winners hopped on a little bus to go to the TCA site and film a commercial with Shay Mitchell. No one was there yet so we got to see everything while it was clear. Shay got dropped off and I think we all got a little star-struck (except Olivia since she was her mentor). We took several takes of it and then immediately had to go back to the hotel because there was a party on the hotel roof with the mentors, out families and the CEO’s (along with their families) of Acuvue. Unfortunately, only Dwight, Joe and Shay could attend. But it was incredible meeting them all! After that was done, all of us (except Anthony and Olivia) got back on the minibus and drove to the TCA site again. We were dropped off where all the celebrities were and it was the craziest site ever; I have never seen so many paparazzi in my life. We stood by the gate where everyone was dropped and saw about every single celeb that attended. I met Ed Sheeran and other artist and it was insane how close everyone was to us. Even One Direction casually walked inches away to get around us. But we went in, watched the show, got out and went to an after-party consisting of free arcade games, bowling, and endless chicken strips and pizza! One of the best days by far.
In 10 years you will be...
Hopefully, I’ll be in a successful band, whether it’s a new band, already existing one, or be a backup musician for a solo artist.
Besides music, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love drawing! I used to do it high school a lot, but since I’ve been in college, I don’t have as much free time as I used to. I’m also really into making bracelets. I can make them out of string and rubber bands so if you ever want one, Hit me up!
What's your favorite quote and why?
“To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream; not only plan but also believe.” I really like this quote because I think so many people just act upon something, fail, and then give up. You’re going to be told “no” a lot in order to get where you want to be. I have, yet that doesn’t stop me. Even though I had this amazing experience happen to me, there’s a little voice in my head that likes to get at me and make me think that I’m not going to end up getting far with music, but I try to shove it aside. Don’t give in to the voices. Listen to your heart, not your head.
Do you write your own music? If so are we going to hear it soon on your YouTube channel? If not, what's your favorite cover that you've done and why?
I’ve been trying to write some original stuff lately. I actually do have an original song on my channel, but it’s a very rough version and has been touched up a bit over time since I posted it. I may end up deleting in the future and reposting the version I have now. I’m also working on another one now, but I can’t think of how to make it flow. I have lyrics, just not the music. So I’m working on that currently. I think my favorite cover would actually have to be “Not Gonna Die” by Skillet. I don’t sing, but I’m playing electric guitar and that’s originally what I started out on. I haven’t played one for a few years so it was fun going back to it and playing some rock!

Did I actually mean this, once upon a time?
Let me start by asking you this one, very common, exceptionally over-analysed question:
What is love?
To some it's the rush of endorphins flowing through the body when your crush's hand grazes ever so softly against the delicate skin of your knee, for others it's the wind blowing through ones hair as they throw their arms wide with spiked adrenaline in an attempt to encompass life while they reach constant velocity on their free-fall to the surface of the mighty globe we call earth. Perhaps for you it's the awkward hand scrawled letters to the girl that sits across from you in chemistry that inevitably make your heart leap into your throat and silently strangle you under your teachers piercing gaze. Now go on, I dare you- ask me that same question... What is love?
To me, love is the tapestry of evolution.
Let me explain.
People spend their lives going through relationships, dating, figuring out who's traits are best suited for them. Since the art of courtship is decreasing, the real gentlemen are becoming more difficult to find due to the fact that every man that will hold the door open for a woman is inevitably taken already. Desirable traits, be it looks or personality are crucial in finding true love, you wouldn't want to settle for someone substandard with a bad attitude now would you? Part of the Darwinism effect is survival of the fittest- it's part of evolution- when you find your one true love it's the person whose traits are best suited for you, the person you click with will be best for you physically and mentally, regardless of how others view them. No one is free from evolution, let's be real- And for me, nature's paired me up with the best of the best. You see, I've been gifted with a beautiful brunette with long luscious curls that cascade over her shoulders and rest above her chest, a girl with teasing eyes that are constantly lit up, whispering the undiscovered tales of life under the bright blue canopy of the ocean, a woman whose dimples reflect the childhood innocence of days long past, and whose figure displays the painstaking effort of late nights out in the gym perfecting the ageless art that her inner heart compels her to do. Let me tell you my friends, this woman is the one nature destined me to be with. Fret not though, if you're still fighting the Copenhagen Interpretation- with all of the potential outcomes- only one will will be suited properly for you and she will absolutely and undeniably tear you from the roots of your world and send you spinning out of earth's mere atmosphere. The undeniable pull of endorphins, the rush of adrenaline that comes with the first kiss- that is what you look forward to right? Well you have yet to make it through the first date. Good lord- let's talk about the first date. Simply put, the girl(or guy) you're with is either going to be everything to you, or nothing. For the time being however, you are a living interpretation of Schrodinger's cat. Neither of you can tell, nor can the rest of the world, your partner is either a decaying nuclear atom that will trigger the geiger counter and utterly end the life of your passion with one another in one swift blow, or an atom that hasn't yet begun to decay, and therefore you're intimacy remains alive. Only after the progression of a tragically beautiful thing can one tell if your love lives on or is suffocated in poison- much to the same effect as the cat. So now let's say the first date goes exponentially well and you're feeling like you won a million bucks- and the odds aren't exactly in your favor since you would be 1 in 750 million.. But that's besides the point. First date went well- hopefully the two of you feel pretty comfortable and confident with yourselves and each other- inevitably the two of you will end up sleeping together- which is again, another make it or break it scenario; you'll find out if you're actually in love or just in lust with your partner; you see- Biologically, love is a powerful neurological condition like hunger or thirst, only more permanent. We talk about love being blind or unconditional, in the sense that we have no control over it. But then, that is not so surprising since love is basically chemistry. While lust is a temporary passionate sexual desire involving the increased release of chemicals such as testosterone and oestrogen. In true love, or attachment and bonding, the brain can release a whole set of chemicals: pheromones, dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin and vasopressin. However, from an evolutionary perspective, love can be viewed as a survival tool – a mechanism we have evolved to promote long-term relationships, mutual defense and parental support of children and to promote feelings of safety and security. Reflect on that for a minute. So at this point I believe I've effectively communicated my understanding of the act of love, so perhaps you might be wondering how I feel when I am struck by the unnerving power of love without the scientific portion. Per- say, you want to know the "magical" side of the emotion, the soulmate principle and what-not. Go ahead, ask me again;
What is Love?
Let me tell you my friends, it is one of the most painfully exhilarating, passionately destructive things in the world. It's the draining trek through the Himalayan mountain range- the long frigid nights, sore feet, blisters, aches and pains; But it's the view from the peak- the hawks soaring eons below, the clouds drifting over the gently rolling hills into acres of farmland, the lakes and ponds, feeling the dizzying sense of life as you face the crest of the cliff, toes peeking out over the edge of a 5,000 foot drop. It's the waves cascading over your body in the ocean- throwing your helpless figure against the unyielding sandy floor, causing painful discombobulation and excruciating burns; but its also the thrill of discovery, the excitement of something new, the sensual cooling whisper of the water against your shoulder-blades, in a spot where the scorching tongue of the sun landed for a little too long. Love, god it's such a difficult thing to explain. The moment it happens you can feel it in your chest, the building of pressure, suppressed excitement, impossible to contain just aching within you to be released but to the rest of the world you look completely normal but something inside you just has to give! You can't contain all of the emotions inside of you, pouring over you, drowning you in a tidal wave of wants, needs, desires- oh, the insatiable desires just for that one person! Nothing else has that effect, that soft brush of their skin against you will make you want to swoon, landing in their arms, your face flushed with exhilaration. the choking desire to have them close to you, to feel their soft lips parting, the quick breath before a kiss, the minty taste it has- the tug of their teeth against the sensitive skin of your unprotected throat and oh the glory of them touching you! The ache behind your rib cage, the yearning of just wanting to hear their voice again.. But wait.. I'm getting ahead of myself, let me elaborate..
Have you ever sat down next to someone, had them look at you sideways out of their eyes, feeling the ghost of a smile lurking around the corners of their mouth, not noticing until it's just one moment too late that their hand had traveled the short distance between the two of you and now rested on your knee? Have you ever felt the jolt of electricity run through you, starting at the point of contact, a literal spark lighting your system on fire- you now hide behind a curtain of hair, smiling coyly at your partner as if this were a hidden game only for the two of you to play? There's that quick catch of air in your throat, the hot rush of blood to your cheeks, every nerve ending in your body is tingling as her hand brushes up your thigh and comes to rest almost too close but simultaneously too far from what you really truly want. Just that simple movement from your knee to your inner thigh has you on fire. You're aching for a more intimate caress, and your very face reflects your thoughts as you draw in a shaky breath and bite your lower lip, eyes travelling from her hand to her face. Your eyes meet and you see something more sinister lurking in the depths of your partner's eyes, she's squeezing your thigh now, digging her finger into that one spot that drives you wild- your ability to focus has decreased, your breath comes quicker, you lean towards her, feel her lips part on your throat, trailing steamy kisses up to your ear- whispering to you, pulling you in... her hand travels up your shorts and strokes the thin silky fabric of your briefs and you know that you've lost all inhibition, you want more..
The trust, the lust, it's part of love. Try this for taste too:
She comes to pick you up, arriving at 7:15- exactly on time. Standing in your driveway adorned in grey vans, jeans, and a blue flannel shirt; She puts her keys in her pocket and walks up to your door, not once reaching for her cell phone to text "I'm here". You can't resist smiling at her old fashioned way- she hadn't once ceased to make you feel anything less than the only girl in the world. The door swings open. Excitement shoots through you as you rush to greet her at the door, to introduce her to your father and siblings, hopeful that they will like her as much as you do. Semi- formal introductions bring laughter from your family and most importantly from her, and relief cascades over you knowing that she will fit in here just fine. She places her hand against the small of your back to put you at ease and let you know that she would be there, that you could relax now and that everything would be okay.
You see, Love is expressed differently in both scenarios, but it's the same beautiful irresistible love in both, and that creates a more pristine and perfect relationship than any other- a true bond between two people- a passion, a mission, an unconscious addictive feeling. God, god bless those that fall in love.

new wip wednesday
i wanted to get the first chapter of this done as an early bday present to me because ive been talking about this fic for foreverrrrr but its not gonna happen because im bad at measuring time and effort 😮💨 but look! hunger games au fic!
