Book: We Contain Multitudes Series: Standalone Author: Sarah Henstra Pages: 336 Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Favorite Quote: “The US Postal Service is abuzz with the missives of sad, solitary, estranged teenagers.” Recommendation: If you like epistolary novels, gay romance, enemies to lovers, high school setting Synopsis:
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe meets I'll Give You the Sun in an exhilarating and emotional novel about the growing relationship between two teenage boys, told through the letters they write to one another.
Jonathan Hopkirk and Adam "Kurl" Kurlansky are partnered in English class, writing letters to one another in a weekly pen pal assignment. With each letter, the two begin to develop a friendship that eventually grows into love. But with homophobia, bullying, and devastating family secrets, Jonathan and Kurl struggle to overcome their conflicts and hold onto their relationship...and each other.
This rare and special novel celebrates love and life with engaging characters and stunning language, making it perfect for fans of Jandy Nelson, Nina LaCour, and David Levithan.
My Opinion:
The armpit scene was completely disturbing. It didn’t need to exist and read like it was only for the author’s indulgence.
I absolutely adore epistolary novels, but this one wasn’t the best written I’ve ever seen. The way they repeated scenes they were both present for didn’t seem realistic.
I loved the realness of transitioning from the state of unknowingly suppressing who you are to accepting it
Gay representation is usually good, but this one didn’t read properly, likely because of being written by a straight women.

Not every day can be productive, especially not when it was your dads birthday. Had a chance to visit Davis yesterday (where i saw the mural) and send the vibes of ✨let me into your college✨ into the air, so hopefully those work out. I’m also absolutely loving this new ipad lock screen (im using the simplified version for my phone shh don’t tell) by @bulletnotestudies
Zoomester Studyblr Challenge:
Day 4- For my researching fellows, what are you researching on? If you’re not currently researching, what is the topic within your field that you’re most passionate about?
Of all of my current classes right now, I’m really enjoying learning to code with Python 2 in Intermediate Computer Studies. It’s really hitting a lot of notes in my ADHD brain with its formatting and pretty colors and I can and do work on it for hours a day. It’s really the only reason I’m sad the term is ending.
Day 5- Tag 3 studyblrs that you like seeing on your dashboard.
🌱 @athenastudying - their posts are always so nicely formatted and informative, with a touch of added reality so it feels achievable (my true studyblr inspiration). literally meike is going to make me start to learn german.
🌱 @philology-studies - literally everything is curated so nicely. their original content? gorgeous. their reblogs? always aesthetic. plus their tagging system is so comprehensive. true goals for an organized studyblr
🌱 @spanishskulduggery - i don’t know if they consider themselves a studyblr but their content is such a good supplement for learning spanish. i have post notifications on for them because it’s such a good resource. thank you for making such high quality spanish content

My productivity essentials
My ipad has been invaluable during distance learning. I can do all of my work on goodnotes and then export it directly to google drive without ever needing a piece of paper
My bullet journal is the only reason anything gets done at all. Without it I wouldn’t remember that I had tasks, let alone finish them

something that made me laugh today studying spanish:
the expression “shaking like a leaf” is translated to “como un flan”
and i love that instead of being a direct translation they related it to the jiggly dessert :D

#Zoomester Studyblr Challenge
Day 1- Introduce yourself! What’s some basic info you’d like to share about yourself? Also! What are you studying? (If you’re in college, what’s your major? which semester are you in?)
I’m Cat! I’m a senior in high school turning 18 in May much to my chagrin (what does an adult even do?).
My mascot is my stuffed frog: Ferdinand. He is the most fantastic friend and good for online school motivation honestly. 10/10 recommend a stuffy friend.
My favorite subjects are English and Spanish because languages are just the most fun, but I’m also really enjoying my yearbook class. It’s cool to be a part of something that will live on for a long time after me!
My current classes are:
Intermediate Computer Studies (coding and the like)
Ap Human Geography (a freshman class as a cool down for the end of high school)
Leadership (useless during a pandemic)
Literary Publications (making the school’s yearbook)
Ap United States Government (absolutely kicking my butt - hardest class I’ve ever taken. I’ll be lucky to get a B)

Today was surprisingly more productive than I thought it was! Had time to make myself a delicious and nutritious lunch, dance with my sister, and make the lesson plan for my leadership teacher (told you the class was useless if my bsed group project became the lesson plan for tomorrow)
Day 2- If you’ve chosen a major, why did you decide on it? If you’re in any other grade , what field/major interests you the most?
I haven’t chosen a major because I haven’t even been accepted into any colleges yet, but I think I’m going to end up going into a field involving linguistics or an aspect of history. I’ve always loved English, mythology, language learning in general, and the part of history that delves deeper than names and dates. I wouldn’t mind dedicating the next 4 years to those.

To Do:
Emerging Technology Essay
Emerging Technology Presentation
Unit 4 Review (it’s due today so no more procrastinating)
Unit 5 Review
Day 8- International Women’s Day! What’s your take on feminism?
I think as a society, we need to work harder for the equality of men and women. However, the positive message of feminism has since been co-opted by groups such as trans-exclusionists and white supremacists. We need feminism, yes, but feminism needs to first include the people who are being most marginalized, like women of color, trans women, disabled women. It’s gotten to the point where seeing a feminism tag on someone’s blog makes me wary. I’d say that I’m for the ideals of feminism, but I prefer they be practiced and not preached. If you have to say you’re a feminist with your words, you need to work harder to ensure that your actions say it for you.

1st July - What are your plans for this summer?
My plans for this summer are:
to collect all the Ghoulia Yelps dolls (7/30)
to get either a part time or full time job (2 applications, 1 interview so far)
get to number one in the Diamond League on Duolingo (Obsidian League)
set up my college bullet journal

All super doable, but mostly not studying related! I’m super excited for college but I’ve decided to have the most fun possible this summer :)
