Ok yeah double checked that I it doesn't work with the current timeline but I could realistically handwave stuff probably. The thing I'm kind or curious about is when the Kirijo group split off from the Nanjo group. I think the Nanjo group probably started looking into Persona's after the Mikage-cho incident and the Kirijo group would have known through them and then they split off afterwards sometime between 1997-2000 (would have to have been before the ergo lab explosion)

Granted It's entirely possible they were split off before, and the Nanjo group enlisted the help of the Kirijo group to help them look into personas because of their scientific resources.

The big thing, though, especially since I think Nanjo would probably be heading the group at the time, is that 1. I don't think they ever specify, but I chose to believe the Dark Hour is a global phenomenon and something all active persona users at the time would be experiencing, and 2. Nanjo is unable to get involved in any meaningful way due to red tape because the Kirijo group wants as few people as possible to know how badly they fucked this up
