for the last year i told myself i was gonna make a table to help figure out some things for my fics amd smooth out the details. unfortunately i habe now made the table, with no idea where i should start

catb have been such a big part of my life since i was 14, i have memories of different times and ages related to them gathered in my mind, that afternoon I spent 2 whole hours just listening a live version of 7 while I was doing homework; at 17 staying up late waiting for the balance release, crying with Mission, the background noise of my parents arguing downstairs; when a friend of mine gifted me the balcony and the ride at my 16th birthday; at 15 when at our old bedroom my sister asked me "what's the name of that song that goes[...] of that band that you like?" referring to Business, at 21 going to the bathroom from my class at uni so I could listen to Showtime right when it was dropped out.

I just think that is lovely and pure how some things simply stuck with us, how we carry them through time

Not to gripe but it’s all feeling a bit impersonal :/ like I know it’s a part of the marketing ploy to build hype by being secretive and cryptic but i feel like it’s kind of wearing on. I feel like there’s also a difference between being cryptic and just plain impersonal, like maybe have 6 seconds clips of new in the background or like the back of his head in a shot but feels like there’s no personality behind it and it’s kind of giving bleh. Maybe I’m just being sour but there’s a lot of IG comments saying similar and you’d think the marketing team would be taking those into consideration, again, maybe I’m just in a sour mood today 🙁

I don’t think you’re being sour, all opinions are relevant and I kinda agree with you, especially about the impersonal bit. Even if Van’s not gonna show himself yet a bit of his personality coming through in the captions on posts would be so nice. Anything really!

It’s literally just faceless updates. Catb’s fanbase are so loyal and we love the band and the music and we’ve had one single since first announcement of comeback in November, there’s an absent frontman and we don’t even know who’s in the band. People are spending hundreds on gigs and merch and we’ve not even had a “thanks for sticking with us, we’re really happy to be back”

Anyway I’ve had my rant, I’ll go back to shameless fangirling again 🥰

I remember that. CATB got crap for not saying anything so Bondy logged on and posted the black square. They got crap for that too because they didn’t post any info. Damned if you don’t, damned if you do. 😬 I believe whoever posted the R&L clip in Nov 2023 had a little clean out and deleted that along with the Stereophonics gig advert. 🫣

I think Bondy and Benji helped with background vocals, but if you asked me to point out where, I won’t be able to. 🙈

what are you hoping for from their Reading set? A new setlist? New songs?

I know if I see that fucking Toucan the whole time, I’m going to rage.

I’d like to see a fully immersed CATB experience that showcases some songs off all their albums, and album art appropriately- and some new ones thrown in to tease us for what’s coming. Then…I want Van to introduce the new members and when he gets to Benji, the crowd goes batshit crazy and this is all during the bridge/“talking bout your background” portion of Soundcheck. And after they cheer for Benji he says “and I’m Van McCann and we’re back baby!” Then cuts right into “And I race through soundcheck just to meet you-“ and finishes the song. And I cry, and Instagram goes wild and then I dip into my savings, fully prepared to follow them on a US tour.

Hello, hope you’re well! I just wanna thank you for your hashtag on my post. You said Bondy was photoshopped out so I went to investigate, went down a rabbit hole, and found some lost CATB videos. So thank you for that! 😂 I couldn’t figure out if he was photoshopped out as the only instance of that pic is what we’ve already seen but hopefully he wasn’t. Take care lovely. ❤️

Why why why am I only just seeing this :o I'm happy I sent you down that little hole hehe. I honestly don't know that they did Photoshop him out I just thought something looked off about the image and then realised like, usually their photos like, you see one of the other boys in the background even if just in shadow. Like it looked odd to see a totally empty mic when I know the others would have been there haha xx

What are your thoughts on the possibility of new music from Van/catb?

mixed. i honestly feel like it’s very ill timed and sort of in poor taste of him to even think about releasing new music to a fanbase that are really really pissed off rn like we want ANSWERS not new music and he needs to address things before he does anything else at this point i feel because it's just gonna taint the music and kill the whole excitement of the fact we're getting new music if he just keeps putting off an apology or refusing to acknowledge the problem.

I am however excited to hear what he's done with it, but i'll still have a sour taste in my mouth because obviously there's also the looming knowledge in the background that bondy and bob and possibly benji weren't even a part of it. I'm also super curious to see how he announces/promotes it since he clearly is incapable of using social media 💀

ALSO ALSO excited to see how the fandom receive it tbh cause if they're enraged it could be really funny watching it all unfold and the start of van's solo career flopping like this, a bit like karma after all that's happened. But it could also end up redeeming him like maybe he's written a song about everything/an apology song and putting it out to start his solo career with a clean slate. who knows.

I was kinda expecting the new people to be people Van stole from other rock bands 😆 Do you think it was sorted by catb's team? I don't see how they would've shown up on Van's radar if they both come from a mostly pop background 🤷‍♀️

I’m imagining Van full on kidnapping musicians now 😆 I don’t know how this works, I presume there’s like agents to scout for suitable people then they’d have to audition. I’m sure Van would be very involved in the process seeing as he’s got to play with them.

I’m so torn about the session musician thing as on the one hand it will be good for Van to have the control he most likely wants, but then sessions are just there to do a job, they’re not invested in the band the way members are so they’re not there to mess around and try new sounds like Bondy with his pedals, they are just gonna play it like it is no frills. They did an amazing job though but I guess you’re not gonna get the same passion, they’re just there to play and not take attention away from Van.

I’m not gonna lie. I was sad that he wanted nothing to do with CATB when he was done but it seems like he’s still appreciative of his time in the band despite what went down. I’m glad he still has his Catfish memorabilia and is being more interactive with fans. I know he’s trying to sell tickets but still! He’s a very private person and to open himself up like that is a huge feat. 🙂

You have a time/teleportation machine! You can go forwards or backwards in time to anywhere in the world and take one member of CATB with you for the experience… where and when would you go to?

Hiii luv! Well, I want to cheat so much now because I have so much places and time to go with them, this is hard!!!

As I'm a big football fan I would go back to 1981 when Flamengo beat Liverpool in the FIFA Club World Cup. As I'm a big Flamengo fan and Benji seems like a big Liverpool fan it would be fun to have a beer with him later on this day and make him a little happier with my happiness in seeing my team beating up his.

I also would like to take Van or Bondy to Shea Stadium in '65 to see Beatles' most famous concert. Even tho they didn't play Helter Skelter and none of my favorites. And even tho I do not like John Lennon not even a lil bit. I would be there for my beloved Paul and took one of my fav men with me.

Anyway I'll not choose any of these even tho it hurts so much to choose neither football nor concert, and I'll go with a happy place in my head: July 21th 1969. One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. Neil Armstrong being the first man to walk on the moon. Me and Van lying on the hood of the car, the doors playing in the background, we both having a beer watching an event in which I wish I had participated. Now that's a romantic event ladies.
