Out of curiosity, how does the skill grading work? Will we be getting a gift equal to or better than our artwork? Asking because out of honesty, I did not feel like I was paired with someone at my skill level.

This is a question we get a lot. Usually I avoid answering, because a lot of the time it's people trying to push us to disclose if we graded their art as "GOOD" or "BAD", which is totally not how it works nor is the purpose of our skill ranking system!! But considering how much more popular pairing people based on skill was as an option this year, and considering we will thus likely run it this way going forward as well, I'm willing to disclose aspects of our system.

These are my (the host's) guidelines copy and pasted from our mod chat:

"one is the lowest while five is the highest. when ranking i want you guys to consider the technical skill, how finished the works in their portfolio are, and consider the resolution their gift is at/the quality theyre able to share their gift. like if theyre decently technically skilled and their works are finished, but their art is all blurry because they draw at like 100x100 then theyd get marked down on the scale for that

were trying to be objective, of course. if youre deciding between one ranking or another, think about why specifically. we had great examples and explanations earlier from [mod] and myself should anyone want to see

take a participants entire portfolio into account, and try not to use preexisting knowledge of any participants capabilities, if it was not shown in their portfolio. this makes it fair between those we know/may be buddy-buddy with, and the rest of the strangers we are managing

ah and, be considerate towards a wide variety of art techniques and styles. what i mean is, dont just give higher rankings based on background/lighting/rendering, because plenty of super talented and technically skilled artists may not do backgrounds, or lighting, or rendering, or anything else along those lines

additionally, people who only offer writing/physical arts/other are just put in their OWN category, not on the number ranking scale. for those who offer drawings And another art, please mark it as [number]/[other art type]"

We ask for a portfolio, and maybe some people put art in it willy-nilly because they assumed we just wanted to know if they were capable of making a gift in the first place, but it matters a lot more than you think. There were some people who I personally knew were capable of making very large technically skilled pieces, but they only put small doodles and such in their portfolio, and out of fairness to all participants, I ranked them accordingly.

Sometimes people accumulate a small amount of incredible pieces over the years as well, and even if that's not an accurate representation of their typical art, I would rank them higher for that, because we rank people exclusively on what's in their portfolio.

This is also why we ask people to curate a portfolio instead of linking an art blog. If you only linked an art blog, your social media, or a gallery of every artwork you've ever made, we do take everything in your portfolio into account!

To answer your question, this system is far from perfect. I stated "technical skill" in my quoted response there, which is vague. Technical skill, as we define for this event, is not merely based on whether someone can do lighting, or express volume and texture, or naturalism, or anything else, because while those can be indicators of technical skill, we try to be open-minded and accommodating to all kinds of art styles and artists. To define how we rank via technical skill would be going into a lot of very complicated art philosophy and definitions (which to be fair, if you really pressed me, I could define in-depth for you. I'm in uni for fine arts, this is my niche).

If you feel like you weren't paired with someone of similar skill as yourself and feel disappointed by it, that's unfortunate, but it's also the nature of the event. We do try to pair people of generally similar skill levels, both giving and receiving-wise. Either you were paired with someone who was at a higher/lower end of your ranking bracket, or it was a quirk that comes out of inconsistently curated portfolios.

I'm disclosing this information in hopes it can bring ease to people in showing how much we care about being unbiased and fair in this event, to artists of all skill levels. These rankings are, for the record, not comfortable to assign to others in the first place by nature, and they're definitely not an indicator of whether one's art is "good" or "bad". Art is a journey with many steps, and a skill that takes a lot of time and energy to hone. Being at the bottom of a mountain doesn't mean you're a terrible climber, it just means we haven't yet seen your full potential!

I think Squirrelflight is probably the best catalyst to talk about fandom misogyny in the modern day because no matter how much people put down evidence, argue, and explain her situation people are STILL going to use the same weasely tactics to somehow blame HER for the abuse she endures.

To be clear, I am not saying that she is entirely innocent. She 100% is not and that’s what makes her an interesting character.

However, I find it disturbing that people will try and make it seem like it is her fault for being abused

“Oh she led him on!”

“She cheated!”

“She’s the one who started it!”

“She shouldn’t have opposed him!”

You guys realize that these are some of the exact arguments used to victim blame actual real life people who experience abuse, right? Misogynistic people will always find a way to blame the victim, women in this case, even though no matter WHAT the abuser is ALWAYS. ALWAYS. In the wrong for doing the abuse they do. It is NEVER the victims fault and the way people seem to treat the case with Squirrelflight makes me feel really uncomfortable. If you genuinely believe this you should be ashamed of yourself and you should reevaluate your actions.

She was verbally and physically abused. Threatened. Attacked. Stalked. Anything you can think of she’s probably been there. Yet people still sit there and say “well, she just should have stayed in her lane and obeyed.” Fucking disgusting.

This isn’t a new thing either, not only has this treatment been around for AGES but also now whenever someone brings it up people will say “oh you’re just parroting moonkitti” or “another Squirrelflight glazer/stan/whatever the fuck”

I understand being skeptical of someone who seems to be just agreeing with a YouTuber, however, moonkitti is the largest creator who’s actually gone in depth about brambleclaws cycle of abuse. She cites evidence and she makes her stance CLEAR. I think it’s fair for people to cite moonkitti as the reason they believe what they believe around her character BECAUSE they would consider her a reliable source.

As a fandom that’s been around for over 20 YEARS we should have grown from this and we should be looking back at how the fandom has treated female characters and learned from it. But guess what? Nothing has fucking changed. And it’s really irritating. And it’s even more irritating that Squirrelflight is only the most prominent and hotly debated example of it. Because there’s so much more both in the narrative and in the fandom that is worth bringing up and with discussing in depth.

Use this as a way to learn, I’m begging you guys.

I've used fairly common level names for this internship as I couldn't think of any others that fit perfectly. Some might sound familiar as I utilized them from The Sims and Sims 2 console games, such as Lab Assistant and Lab Cleaner respectively, although I haven't played those games myself, so the tones used here may differ. The work days for this internship are scheduled for Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays due to Thursday is considered as a holiday if you have the Seasons expansion pack and Shop Club meetings are on Tuesday and Wednesday if you have the Generations expansion pack. The package file includes uniforms and one of them is taken from the Generations expansion pack, specifically from the Catalyst Chemistry Lab Station (Chemistry table) excluding the goggles. Recognizing that not everyone may have this expansion pack, I've created two versions. The Generations version features a lab coat for levels 1 and 2, while the Base Game version uses base game outfits for all three levels. Please download and use only one version in your game! 📣 Upon reaching level three in their internship, teens will be eligible for promotion to the Science career upon applying once they become young adults. Instructions are provided in the picture above; right-click on it and select 'Open image in new tab' for a clearer view. As stated above, you will need NRAAS Careers Mod for these careers to show up in the game and as long as you have the latest version of it, it should work for higher patches. ALRIGHT!! I've gotten what I can from the EXITors and compiled all of my notes, it's time for me to show my findings on!!

The EXIT!

So what IS the EXIT?

The best thing I can gather having not been there myself, is that it's an extra-dimensional space that exists within Four. Whenever something is eaten (or... in Four's words "zooped") by Four, they shrink down to accompany the initial "space" of Four's mouth, AKA the only place in his body that is closest to following the laws of Physics... Once you enter that door, things get WAY stranger....

I should also preface that we don't know for sure if every algebralien has such a space, as we have only observed these in Four, who seems to have far more power, or at least.... he decides to use far more power than other algebraliens... It's entirely possible that Four is the only one who has the ability to house a space like this!

LAYER ZERO: The Entrance

Four's mouth, one of the entrances to the EXIT. Appears much, MUCH higher up once anything enters Layer 0. This diagram does not show the true depth of how far the floor is from Four's mouth.

Four's OTHER mouth. His main tool of contestant transportation when contestants get eliminated... It's not very visible at all, you'd have to pull back Four's mane to even see it, and even then it's also invisible from the other side!

Skin?? Layer?? Honestly I don't know what makes up algebralien skin aside from the fact that in Four's case it acts as the catalyst for the initial "shrinkage" of anything that enters the space... It also seems to give Four a weakness to fire!

The EXIT door... The entrance to the rabbit-hole...

Strange trees. I don't fully know why these growths populate this area and beyond, as they don't seem to have any sensing function such as taste buds or stomach cilia, but I believe they were the first creations Four practiced on when constructing his inner world... he does think about himself quite often.

LAYER ONE: The Classrooms

Starting with a simple algebra classroom, Layer One is a seemingly endless collection of rooms down a long, winding network of hallways that range from other typical classrooms, to portals to areas outside of the EXIT, and even strange, nonsensical collections of things that are.. well... according to Pencil, "don't deserve a description"...

This layer was the only one accessible to the EXITors for months on end before Liy decided to take a peek behind the curtain... Since I believe the EXIT's vast characteristics were created from personal aspects of Four, it makes me think of just how much Four keeps hidden away about himself... Why does he like school so much??

LAYER TWO: The Fourest

Feeling claustrophobic? Take a trip to the scenic and expansive Fourest! I consider this a bit of a "hub" of the EXIT, as it seems like the most widespread place to put different entrances to other, deeper areas, as well as, of course, the pathway out...

Compared to the classroom, this area is the most "organic" in terms of literally being comprised of Four... The classrooms themselves contain a percent of material created from his own body, but it seems a lot has been taken from outside and placed within... This area, however, is pretty much all him. its thanks to this area that I was able to take some small samples stuck to the EXITors clothing.. and i am SO excited to study it! Ahh!!

LAYER THREE: Below...?

The descriptions I got from Match, Liy, and Stapy were pretty... odd... to say the least for this wacky pocket dimension, and its certainly where my knowledge of the EXIT seems to come to a close, as the closest the EXITors got to any deeper level was this strange little castle full of even stranger secrets.... You must admit, Four might be cruel but he has an eye for architecture!

Out of the other layers, this one seems to be a combination of both Four material and outside material, making me wonder if this is where Four keeps his best kept secrets or... maybe even his insecurities?

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Oh yeah... I heard about this... thing that some of the EXITors encountered... From what I know it seems to be simply another part of Four rather than a thinking creature of its own, but it's certainly hard to say!
