. ✧ . * . ⌜ sohan pague, twenty-three, trans-male, he/they / who are you, really? by mikky ekko + always standing three strides back and one to the side, learning to speak through pigments on canvas, & finding your own family despite guilt to retain the name ⌟ hey, have you met GREGORY GOYLE yet? the PUREBLOOD is a FIFTH YEAR at hogwarts and are a SLYTHERIN. makes sense given they tend to be a bit CRAFTY and INFLUENCED. it seems the death of the boy who lived has placed them on the DARK side of the looming war. let’s just hope they make it out alive.
tw: familial expectations/obligations, drinking/alcohol mention, potential alcohol abuse, death mention
full name: gregory godlet goyle
date of birth: october 22nd
star sign: libra
place of birth: cambridgeshire, england
family: martyn goyle (father), moreen TBD (mother)
sexual orientation: queer. explaining his sexuality beyond that feels like a chore, and also not anyone's business. having already put so much out himself out there, greg is exhausted by the idea of explaining himself beyond need.
religion: ashiest.
tattoos: none yet.
style: a pair of tried and true black trousers, several silver rings along a fist, button-ups worn as jackets, doc martens, earth-colored basic tees, hems hitting at the ankle, patterned socks put on full display, worn-in denim jackets, wool jumpers, and an aged grey tweed overcoat nicked from his grandfather's closet.
eyeing your distorted reflection in the puddle of a rainstorm, always standing three strides back and one to the side, becoming numb to the T's stamped across test papers, black ink staining the side of your dominant hand, always casting a look to the side, the heel of your hand pressed so hard against your eye you swear it'll leave a bruise, a black cat providing your only bit of luck, learning to speak through pigments on canvas, inheriting your grandfather's name and his taste for bourbon, screaming below the surface of the black lake in competition with thunder, tripping on untied laces, a specific kind of comfort being in the dark, & finding your own family despite guilt to retain the name.
gregory goyle was born into a wealthy— though far from the wealthiest— pureblood family. his name wasn't gregory goyle then but that name hardly matters anymore. he's been gregory ever since coming out as trans at the age of sixteen. it had been a journey to get to that point, a lot of time spent battling the potential reactions and rejections in his head. coming from a traditional family, safe to say his parents were one of the scariest audiences
greg doesn't even remember what he'd said, mostly just remembers how his legs were shaking and how he couldn't stop playing with his fingers. he counted himself lucky that his parents accepted it, though that in itself might be an overstatement. they doesn't fully get it in truth. it seems the part martyn latched onto was that he now had a son, and therefore a legacy. a new weight for gregory to bear; and just when he'd thought he might get to breathe a little easier.
in a way, that might be why they latched onto being one of draco's shadows. it felt like the right thing to do, an expected pureblood course for him to chart, without having to take the lead himself. he could simply follow the leader and save himself a bit of stress.
well more stress. there really was no escaping that, especially not with his academic abilities. he'd found that he was somewhat decent at charms and passable (mostly) at defense against the dark arts... oh, but the rest. it's a punch of P's, D's, & T's. some of his classes he's only made it through by the help of some classmates, and then some with some less above-board assistance.
greg found that he did better away from books. like first year! he did bloody well in flying. why couldn't they have more years with that?! and, honestly, he'd done alright with the hands on stuff with magical creatures... it just wasn't his thing. greg had his one dealing with the hippogriff and was all set. he'll keep to his cat, moxie, thanks.
unfortunate it's not a class, and unfortunate goyle tends not to share any of his work with people, but he's a good artist. it was an activity that started as a habit, picked up on the edges of his notes when the lecture gave him a headache— that's when he'd start scratching away with his quill. little sketches turned to full papers, turned to journals filled front to back. there's an art club at hogwarts, but it's something they don't attend regularly, and when he does he's either sneaking in late or slipping out early. [ooc: if you are familiar with this guy/this gag, he's similar].
has always loved the rain, specifically thunderstorms since they were a little kid. if he overthought it, maybe it's because greg liked how it could get loud and shake out his thoughts, or that it felt good to know the universe wanted to scream too. but the light, easy, usual answer was that it felt fucking good just to go out in the middle of it. to run through puddles. to kick and stomp. you could be a kid in the rain. so any storm that comes, be prepared to see gregory out there.
just joined the quidditch team this year as a beater. he's not the most accurate and can be outsmarted, but when he connects, it does hurt.
goyle used to have a bit more heft to him. he'd started shedding the weight the day potter turned up dead. unlike the majority of his classmates, he'd gotten clued in sometime during the summer about the why, not the how. coming from a death eater family, the concept of voldemort being back was supposed to be a good thing. maybe eventually he'd feel that but first and foremost, what gregory goyle felt was stress. merlin, this was going to be another arduous journey for him to go on, wasn't it? as the weight of this new reality settled upon him this past summer, goyle lost nearly three stone. the clothes that used to cling tight now hang loose, shrinking a once formidable figure. funny what a harsh sense of mortality will do.
aside from swinging a beater's bat and dirtying his hands and parchment with ink, goyle has taken to unwinding with a drink. his grandfather started sharing his love for bourbon with gregory a good few years back, but this summer he'd broken out some of the very best. they had things to celebrate, of course. gregory learned quickly that he's knocked it back too fast, that he was meant to savor it. so he learned the proper way. still didn't mean that itch wasn't inside him every time, wanting to just knock it back and quick grab another. the stress definitely goes away easier that way.
... still figuring out more. any gaps/questions, feel free to ask!!
general connection ideas: friends outside of his core trio, ex-friends, pseudo siblings, childhood/family friends, classmates, teammates, ex-teammates, exes, fwb, one night stand, one-sided crush, old crush, enemy, annoyance, drinking buddy, someone he runs into at the kitchens, an art buddy, bad influence, good influence, extended fam, tutors… others that i cannot think of

Animal rescue centres have to turn dogs and cats away as cost of living crisis forces people to give up pets

Animal rescue centres have to turn dogs and cats away as cost of living crisis forces people to give up pets
Overstretched rescue centres are having to turn dogs and cats away, putting them on waiting lists instead, as the cost of living crisis forces growing numbers of households to give up their pets.
While inflation has soared to a 40-year high of 9.1 per cent, the cost of some animal essentials has climbed at an even steeper rate, notably dog food, which has risen in price by more than 16.75 per cent over a year.
The RSPCA said many of its 14 centres in England and Wales are “full or close to capacity”, as swathes of pet owners are forced to offload their animals in the face of mounting domestic bills.
It took in 49 per cent more rabbits, 14 per cent more cats and 3 per cent more dogs in the first five months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, according to figures released in its Animal Kindness Index report.
Andrew Gillon, director of operations at the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT), which operates five rehoming centres in the south of England, toldi: “For the first time, almost all of our centres actually have waiting lists for animals coming into us.
“Financial reasons are always central to why people have to relinquish their pets, so with the added pressures of the cost of living crisis we are seeing, and will continue to see, people unable to look after their animals.
“Most people are absolutely heartbroken when they have to give up their pet. We will never judge, and always support people who try to do the best for the animal. It’s a horrible situation.”
NAWT offers alternatives if it is unable to accommodate an animal, such as its Home Direct scheme, which assists in rehoming pets straight from one household to another.
The RSPCA has a network of private boarding spaces where animals it is unable to house immediately can be sent – however this incurs additional cost to the charity.
Emma Slawinski, director of advocacy and policy at the charity, said: “We are on the brink of an animal welfare crisis due to the rise in pet ownership during the pandemic, coupled with the cost-of-living pressures biting – especially those on lower incomes. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.
“We’re starting to see the knock-on effects of this as we, and other charities, predicted. Tragically we’re starting to see an increase in the abandonment of pets and growing numbers of cats and rabbits being rescued and coming into our care.”
Owen Sharp, CEO of Dogs Trust, told i the charity has already taken 13,000 calls from owners who need to give up their dogs in 2022, a 58 per cent increase on last year.
“We’re rehoming and fostering dogs as quickly as we can – but as soon as we free up a kennel space, there’s a dog to fill it again,” he added.
More on Cost of living
While national organisations are able to make use of vacancies across their network, smaller charities have no choice but to add pets to a lengthy queue.
Woodgreen Pets Charity, which can accommodate 72 dogs, 123 cats, and more than 200 small animals at its base in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, is already full.
Vanessa Cunningham, its director of care & veterinary services, toldi: “Unfortunately, we don’t have unlimited space and there are only so many pets we can keep at our centre whilst maintaining high welfare standards.
“At the moment, there’s a waiting list for pets coming in.”
The growing pressure on rescue centres is exacerbated by the falling rate of rehoming over recent years.
The RSPCA rehomed an average of 753 animals per week in 2019, dropping to 565 in 2020 to 518 in 2021.
Should this pattern continue, even fewer spaces will be freed up this year, meaning animals remain in care for longer.
Families across Britain are grappling with high fuel bills, record petrol prices and rocketing food costs, as inflation hit a level last seen in 1982.
According to the PDSA, an animal charity, it costs £50 to £70 a month to own a dog, while Battersea Dogs & Cats Home says cats cost an average of £1,000 a year.
Despite the costs, more Britons than ever are pet owners. March data from the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) suggests that more than 3.2 million people in the UK had acquired an animal since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, and 17 million UK households were responsible for a total of 34 million pets.

My other half as well as I are now preparing our following vacation in October and also have no concerns as we understand he will be in great hands while we are away.

The genuine love and care offered by Abi Purser is incomparable. We have every confidence as well as rely on the solution Longcroft give, and also really feel able to kick back when we are away knowing they are being so well cared for.
What Issues Will A Regional Authority Think About When Deciding To Give A Permit?
Consumers accumulating pet cats earlier than the agreed day will certainly be billed for the full reservation period. All felines are boarded as agreed at the time of reservation and as shown on our booking graphes. Any kind of feline not provided or accumulated within our mentioned opening hours will go through a charge of one extra day's boarding. It was our first time being aside from our 5 month old kitten, Tom Tom so we desired the most effective holiday accommodation we might discover for him.

Longcroft cat hotels should be your first and also only selection for your hairy infants. https://kettering.cattery365.co.uk/ needed to find a place to look after my 2 hairy family members after needing to vacate the house. Abi went out of her way to help for the 7 weeks I required to home Pepsi and also Summer. They were cared for and also pampered for their entire remain at Longcroft. Abi sent out great deals of images on exactly how they were doing with out their keep to maintain me updated on how they were. Could not give anymore praise to the Longcroft Hotels for the aid I required to take care of my 2 felines. The ordinary price for a pet cat is ₤ 9.57 per day or ₤ 134 for a two-week stay. Kennel Cough is a chest infection caused by an infection that spreads from canine to dog and also prevails in kennels and other areas where dogs are hugged together. We chose traditional kennels instead of high-end "pet resorts" which our company believe would certainly cost more. If your cat is not under vet care at Pet Medical Centre as well as is signed up at another veterinary method, please supply information of your existing veterinary practice sometimes of admission. All male pet cats over the age of 6 months should be castrated; this is to minimize stress levels to name a few boarding felines.
Exist Any Kind Of Alternatives To Kennels?
I could see that he had made great buddies with the girl that brought him up at hometime and also was informed that he would certainly had a bath and also his blanket had actually been cleaned - despite the fact that I really did not demand or anticipate this. I have actually checked out various other evaluations claiming about foul-smelling dogs yet do these owners really realise it is a kennel setting and in some cases they do naturally scent Doggy!! General I wouldn't be reluctant to place my dog in next time we vanish and also would extremely suggest Eco-friendly Lane to also the most anxious canine owner. s dissatisfied there yet the team relocated her a number of times to various locations within the kennels and hand fed her hen, pork, and also deals with to obtain her to feed. they took her with them around the kennels to maintain her entertained they couldn't have done a lot more to attempt to settle her down extremely happy with all the treatment the team revealed.
