Shoutout to Pat for not only having the balls to mention the transphobia towards Wuk Lamat but also perfectly addressing the phenomenon of people going "nuh uh I dislike her for [disingenuous other reason]" my podcaster fr fr

@theearthmagicguy I felt you would appreciate how accurate your tags are. Cause the CastleSuperBeast duo of Babylegs and Piestealer have almost codified Overwatch's tactic at this point.

It's always interesting to learn new things about RE and game development as a whole from you, and it's made me want to start to research about it too, but I don't know where to exactly start and it all seems a little overwhelming...
So are there any specific websites that go in depth about game design (specifically REs) ?
i'm sorry, friend, i don't know of any concentrated sources that you can sort of read through like an encyclopedia to learn in large chunks.
my knowledge is an accumulation over many, many years following many, many sources. a lot of my information comes directly from actual game devs -- like, david gaider was a huge source of good information back when he was still working at bioware, and i learned a lot just from following him on twitter. it was also through twitter that i was able to talk to john johanas, and dear god that guy is a wealth of information if you ever get the chance to actually sit down and talk to him. so definitely follow devs and listen to devs.
video game youtubers/streamers who have actually worked in the industry, even if they were only doing QA testing, are good sources, too. castle superbeast is a podcast that i can't recommend enough. but they'll never just have an episode that i can link you to that's like "this is where they discuss how games are made." it's sprinkled in throughout their stuff bit by bit as they talk about games.
my brother's a software engineer, so i know a lot from him. so if you have anyone in your life who works a job like that, ask them.
jason schreier is an excellent source, so maybe read some of his books.
and every once in a while, game studios will put out videos with like... behind the curtain looks at how the games get made. and they're all PR attempts, but there's insights there, too. i remember tango put out a LOT of those when marketing the evil within. supergiant is another studio who puts out videos like that.
for RE specifically, bawkbasoup has an encyclopedia in his head about RE. he's never taught me anything that i, personally, didn't already know, but like. he knows his stuff.
like, if you have a passion for video games, and this is something that you're interested in, the information is out there. it's just not easily accessible. it takes some dedication to access.

I was going to make a dumb spiel shaming you for watching a camrip instead of experiencing the true horror majesty of CGI on the big screen but actually nah, I don’t want to suggest anyone give this thing money even as a joke
pat from castle superbeast was not kidding about the final third of the movie being a parade of corpses

Every time pat and woolie get that one lady on castle superbeast I'm always like, huh, I bet I would probably look an awful lot like her if I put more effort into my appearance

I literally dont even know what the premise is for starfield beyond “you do bethesda content, in space”
Its entire lifespan on castle superbeast was centred on woolie not knowing how bethesda games work and pat not knowing how to communicate them to him, i have no idea what makes the setting remotely interesting or worth caring about.
I think the biggest sign of the grand “fall of Bethesda” or whatever is the fact that Starfield officially released a full calendar month ago today and I literally have zero idea what it is about or what happens in it. absolutely zero cultural osmosis seems to have happened, which would’ve been unthinkable for a Bethesda RPG like ten years ago

One Step from Eden is a lot to take in but I like it way more than Slay the Spire already. I tried StS for the first time the other day and idk how that game is as popular as it is. Its kinda uggy and none of the cards I got seemed that interesting, where in Eden I played for half an hour and I already have ideas of builds I wanna use, and almost every new card it threw at me was exciting
I know Pat of Castle Superbeast couldnt deal with skipping cards at the end of rounds, and I get that if youre coming off of Hades and games like that, but it isnt like Side Order where like, youre trying to max out passive skills. The reward cards are active skills so if theyre just gonna clog up your deck then just dont grab them. You get other rewards besides the cards for winning rounds
One Step from Eden is a lot easier to take in because of how good the music is if nothing else too. The spritework is also much better in motion than it appears in screenshots

Oh my god are you a fellow denizen of Castle Superbeast?
Probably not, because I don't know what that is. Sorry if I've disappointed you.

She let me hit her Spot if I Wrapped it up.
Again Westside Gunn is my top artist of the year. After Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West decided to ruin their enoyability by either putting out a mediocre project or being racist (guess which), I was subconsciously looking for a rapper to take that spot. Westside Gunn did so by having a constant consistent output and keeping the Boom Bap sound alive. Gunn has recently incorporated trap style beats which is a sign of his evolution.
I also explored the men behind the beats, specifically Alchemist and J Dilla, also Kenny Beats's Louie is a fantastic album. Steely Dan is on there because I'm pushing thirty and for male brains the older you get the more you yearn for The Dan. I started seriously listening to Deftones after going to their music festival, Dia de los Deftones. Also bad alt shawties go feral over their music.
As for podcasts can't praise these 5 enough. Chapo is controversial but I just like hearing these guys riff and since I don't use Twitter anymore it's a filter for what news happens on there. Castle Superbeast is surreal because it would be Woolie and Pat's 10th year podcasting and it doesn't feel like it's been 10 years but so much has changed in both of their lives, also its a video games news filter. Deadlock is the best wrestling podcast no contest. The 3 hosts have an energy unlike any other, they love wrestling so much that they can enjoy the terrible aspects of it. Podcast About List and Episode 1 are two of the most creative projects out there. The bits PAL come up with to evolve past simply reading lists have been incredible. E1 made an audio movie that nails the animate kids movie style with their movie Pixar's Sodas. Please listen to PAL and E1.

I have listened to Castle Superbeast for a long time. They are both devils on your shoulder. One is confident, the other is clueless.
