“You Promised” - Posting Tuesday, July 4
Authors: anyrei and queerwerewolf ( @the-real-anywolf ) Artist: PetraAmia ( @deancodedcastielenby ) Rating: Explicit Featured characters: Castiel, Inias, Gabriel, Naomi Featured relationships: Castiel/Inias Length: 19,000 words Tags:  Pre-Canon, Canon-Divergent, Angel Lore (Made Up and Canon), Romance, Love Story, Coming of Age, But with Angels, First Love, Star-Crossed Lovers
Summary: Castiel and Inias are the best of friends, have been since they were fledglings. This is the story of their life, and the love they find along the way.
Excerpt:
Castiel sprinted forward, using his wings to give him a push, before he slid behind the pillar right at Heaven's gate to hide. There was a guardian sitting there. But it was Abner and he was either sleeping or pretending not to see them. Castiel waved Inias over.
Inias smiled and, instead of running across the hallway like a normal angel, he proceeded to do a somersault in his direction. His wing got caught and he ended up flat on his face before he proceeded to crawl the rest of the way to Castiel.
Castiel helped him up and rubbed his palm over Inias's face. He gave his friend a soft smile. "That was elegant. Are you alright?"
“Yeah,” Inias said with a laugh, “I was tryin’ to be sneaky.”

Which one of TFW got the best line in Spn?
Huh. If it has to be one of Team Free Will then you've got me. They all had so many great lines. Crowley, Bobby, and Lucifer all got some stonkers, too.
The line that really seared itself into my brain from all of Supernatural was guest-character Hester's:
Tumblr media
It really shook me! I mean, in and of itself it's a great line. But there's so much worldbuilding packed into the combination of the line with Emily Holmes's delivery. This idea that Castiel fetching Dean out of hell was the first domino tipped over, not only in Cas's personal fall ("You have fallen in every way imaginable,") but in the subsequent chaos and destruction in Heaven. And she's not wrong to single that event out as the turning point, but she turns the blame on Dean, who hardly got any choice in the matter:
"Why should we give you anything after everything you have taken from us? The very touch of you corrupts. When Castiel first laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost! For that you're going to pay." Supernatural 7x21 - Reading is Fundamental
She says these lines to Dean, and it starts as the whole aloof, disdainful shtick we've seen from other angels speaking about and to humanity. But Hester reaches max gross load right there and then, so it finishes raw. She breaks down, shouts, loses all self-restraint and just hurls her grief, rage and pain at Dean. Moves to punish him. When Cas deflects Hester from physically attacking Dean - no small intervention, given his fragile state of mind - she whales on the helpless Cas instead, trying to claw back some control of her life by attacking what she sees as the source of her problems.
Hester's completely adrift in this new world of free will and personal responsibility that Team Free Will have dropped on her, and on all the other, surviving angels who didn't get a starring role in the Apocalypse or the war in Heaven. Hester's fallen too, they all have, and she only knows it when Inias begs her not to kill Castiel. Then she snaps completely, and Meg kills her before she can kill Cas.
That's some corking dialogue right there, and in some ways it's more of a reveal about the state of things in Heaven, post-non-Apocalypse, than all Castiel's season 6/7 power-grab arc with its exposition about what's going on up there. Hester's public breakdown is one of the few hints we ever get of exactly what Cas is so regretful and self-hating about in later seasons. Every time his storyline trips him over another failure or mistake, it adds to this guilt until he ends up just desperate to do something right. So desperate that it blinds him to the nuances of an evolving situation, sometimes.
Tumblr media
I don't think Cas understands until almost the very end of the story, after becoming Jack's father and reaching rock-bottom in his relationship with Dean, that the one thing he always thought he got right in the first place - pulling Dean Winchester out of Hell, saving him, taking his side against an absent and uncaring God - was always victory enough.

When I Knew You  |  Explicit  |  54,272 Words
Author: FriendofCarlotta Artist: xfancyfranart
Shortly after moving into his new house, Dean Winchester finds a strange, flickering light in the middle of his living room. When he touches it, he’s transported two years into the past, to the days when a man named Castiel Novak lived in the house.
Dean’s own time pulls him back eventually, but the gateway to the past keeps appearing, and Dean keeps visiting Cas — sometimes for minutes, sometimes for hours. They soon fall in love, but there is no possible future for them, for one simple reason: in a few weeks, Cas is supposed to die.
As the date of Cas’ death draws closer, will Dean be able to save his life? And if he does… will the two of them find a way to be together in the same time?

i just think that whenever one angel had to kill another they should have been more visibly distraught about it. i wanted to see anna stab uriel and watch his body fall in horror at what she'd been forced to do and castiel dragging his injured vessel to his side to weep over him. i think castiel should have lashed out even more at sam and dean every time he had to kill one of his siblings for them. i think he should have cradled rachel and balthazar's bodies as they died and been marked forever with the scars of their wings for it, to make him killing raphael and the hundreds in heaven even scarier when he doesn't show any remorse for it. i think inias and castiel should have both screamed when meg killed hester, even though there was no other choice, even though it was her or cas. i think dean and sam should have noticed something was wrong when castiel killed samandriel because he wasn't overcome with grief about it immediately and the only tears he shed were made of blood. i think cas should have stabbed hael out of fear of what she might condemn him to and then sobbed while holding her, telling her he's sorry that she won't get to see the world she once helped build and leaving her body even more scarred and bloodstained. i could go on.

I have a question
So Cas took over the garrison from Anna right and Anna found a woman to birth her before falling
Anna must be in her late 20s early 30s when they find her again.
But everyone acts like she has been gone for a long time and there are a few lines in the show that make us feel like Cas was head of the garrison for centuries
But like 20-30 years must be less ke a block nk to the angels right? So like did Anna have a few lives? Or how do you think that time frame works?
Hi! First of all, I can say without needing to extensive research that there will be no explanation in canon, like many things (especially with angels or demons) there is no effort at all for things to "make sense". They'll say whatever they need at the moment for whatever plot point they want. They only remember angels and demons are different from humans when the plot needs it.
That said, this is an attempt at reconstruction of "garrison leadership" timelines based on a few crumbs from the show.
--We know Castiel once was in Ishim's garrison (which is a different one from the S4 one we saw) in 1901 from Lily Saunder episode
--Ishim said after that Castiel got his own garrison
--~20ish years before S4 (1990s?) Anna was the leader of Castiel's garrison
--This means, between 1901 and 1990s, he led his own garrison. This could be before 1990s, when he led the garrison with Anna, Urial, Balthazar etc reporting to him; then maybe he did something and got demoted and Anna took over. Alternatively, he led yet another garrison but somehow got demoted and transferred over to Anna's garrison.
--They also have confused Castiel's S6 civil war with his previous role as a military commander. In S6, Castiel was the top leader of his side (must have been at least thousands of angels). But in Captives Bartholomew talked about serving under Castiel but that Castiel was just a low-level captain reporting to multiple other superiors. They meant to refer to S6 but that is a complete impossibility and I therefore declare that there was a pre-canon civil war in heaven when Castiel possibly led a garrison as well (or some other military unit).
--They implied Hester and Inias worked under Castiel but Hester clearly referred to S6 civil war/godstiel (you gave an scary speech and then left), so I don't think that meant they were in Castiel's "garrison".
----All of that is recent history. For Castiel to be a famed commander among angels, he must have served in different military units throughout millennia (see previous point about another civil war). Given his rebellious nature and how many times he got mind wiped, he probably got promoted and demoted and banished and transferred multiple times.
--Of course, this implies that, although he reported to Anna between 1901 and 1990s at most, he was likely as experienced as Anna or more so. But Anna was portrayed as if she was Castiel's commander for a very long time, and Castiel couldn't make any decisions without her leadership. Of course when writing S4 Castiel's history was an open book, so at that time, it was plausible to think Anna was the commander for a long time and Castiel was always a lower level soldier. But the show went on and the later canon contradicts with this.
Sorry for the rambling and trying to reconstruct pattern where there was none, bottom line is I think we are free to explain the show's events however we want.
