Percy Jackson hit series star Walker Scobell was spotted at Disney with his cast members and holding hands while hugging with a mysterious girl. Sources say it might be Y/N Christensen, Hayden Christensen daughter. This new speculation came out shortly after Y/N posted on her Instagram story a picture of two shadows, her and supposedly Walker, holding hands. I love Percy and Annabeth but they should not have been in Heroes of Olympus.
Because they overshadow everyone else.
People even say they skipped other characters povs just to read there's.
I love them but I think they shouldn't have been as prominently apart of the story.
Because yeah I love them but I've had 5 books of these guys, I'd really like to know the rest of the seven.
Hell Jason's birthday is the day they fall into Tartarus soo...tell me they aren't overshadowed..
Jason's our main character and he constantly gets pushed aside and is not written well and constantly compared to as being Percy's lesser version.
Which isn't fair.
And he's not given a chance to change that.
He's not allowed to exist outside of Percy because of course he isn't.
Percy's right there.
Also give them a break.
They just fought a war.
Personally would love if the lost hero started with a snap shot of the battle of Manhatten and zoomed out to the Roman part of the fight.
Jason leading the charge and just "Yeah.. That's me, your probably wondering how I got here."
And takes us all the way back to a mysterious woman giving Jason up and the wolves coming for him.
With us learning from kid Thalia demanding to know where Jason is that this Jason is her Jason.
Jason Grace.
We see the wolf house we watch Jason try to survive and absolutely break our hearts hearing someone so young think he's so alone and no one loves him.
Lupa becoming more motherly to him but that fear Jason has always remains that she will turn on him one day.
Jason wandering the streets to Camp Jupiter.
Jason's situation bring the reverse of Percy's.
Being out casted immediately and than put on a pedestal once he's claimed.
Jason immediately hating it.
Jason being pushed into this good soilder narrative but he doesn't fit it at all.
His upbringing has left him wild, less bothered with proper fighting techniques and more on survival.
He fights to kill.
He fights to live.
And no one else gets that.
Except one camper, Octavian, who's older than Jason abd the Augur.
Everyone after reading the Pjo series seeing Octavian...I got my eye on you Mr.
Who insults the elders and is the first to get Jason to laugh.
And encourages Jason to stand up for what he believes in.
Giving Jason the courage to deny his place in the 1st cohort and join the 5th.
This
Pisses everyone off.
Mostly the 1st.
Who are downright offended because you don't turn down the first cohort.
And Jason's like, but I just did.
The 5th have no idea what to make of Jason but in time they become friendly.
Dakota becoming a friend to him.
Jason knows this because he shares his kool aid with him sometimes.
He does get in trouble for squaring off with and scaring off some bullies of the upper cohorts.
Because Jason hates bullies and he recognises the kid, Frank being picked on.
Apparently they stole his stick and while Jason has no idea it's importance, it made Frank sad soo he goes after them.
Ends up on probatio and friends with Frank.
Who admires Jason's bravery and wishes he could be too.
So the rest of the leigion kinda miffed some 5th upstart is embarrassing them.
And so when the next quest is given its to him.
Quests are different here to Camp Half-blood.
Since they don't have a true oracle, specifics are never mentioned.
Leaving the leigion to give the prophecy to whoever they want.
And they want to knock Jason down a few pegs and so they send him.
Jason picking Frank and Dakota.
Neither of the two are hopeful because the day a 5th is sent on a quest is the day their funeral is held.
Not the case though and they do in fact succeed and do it well.
Frank even opening up about his stick and showing that he is as brave and courageous as he wants to be.
It's through that act of bravery Frank is claimed as a son of Mars.
And though he's not exactly sure he should be one, Jason and Dakota both tell him it suites him well.
They both even do the "all hail Frank Zhang, Son of Mars" speech.
Which makes him smile.
On the way back though they do find Reyna.
Jason gets the short straw and has to do the oh the Roman God's are real but she knows and that she's a daughter of Bellona.
And they all head back to camp together.
And while Reyna has her guard up she does genuinely seem to enjoy her company with the others.
She's also the only other person to truly understand how Jason fights and his instinct to survive.
Though she doesn't share why.
Octavian greets them, proud and Reyna is on probatio until they can see what cohort she fits into.
Though she remarks after seeing the egos of the 1st that the 5th might be better afterall.
Celebrations are held and Jason wonders if the quest is really over.
Also all or us wondering if Octavian was genuine about what he said to Jason to follow his dreams.
Or if he did it to take Jason's place in the 1st.
Can't tell me after Luke anyone of you guys wouldn't be mad suss of an older blonde boy befriending Jason.
Fool me once.
Shame on you.
Fool me twice...
Damn...
Also reading the series prior and than this means everyone agrees with Jason.
Like we saw Percy fight for his life over and over and are just like... Oh you bitches gonna have a rude awakening when you face real monsters 💅🏽.
I have no idea what the quest would be but I'd want them to all line up to the next big prophecy.
Instead of it coming out of nowhere.
Hazel does come around but later on because of the doors and with her so does Nico.

i have thoughts about the pjo tv show but they might not be beloved... (long post, mostly just for myself but feel free to read my thoughts) (also lmk your thoughts! im curious if my experiences are universal) (also obv spoilers for ep8)
now i recognize i am watching this show through the lens of a much older person than i was when i read the books. percy is no longer older than me - he is now just a baby to me. and the actors are so young. so that might be the cause of some of my feelings. also i realize that a tv adaption is not going to be identical to the book. but what is tumblr if not a place to vent my frustrations, despite how irrational they may be?
i'll start with the good because there were some things i liked. i thought the actors mostly did a good job. the effects and sets and lighting and design was all very good, visually i think it was great. i like the gods i think theyre mostly well cast. I don't really have many problems with grover.
ok now lets talk about my frustrations. this isn't going to be super organized or logical. first of all, i had a problem with the characterization. most characters were actually not bad, but percy didn't really feel like percy to me. he seemed kinda darker? (whats he gonna be like when its dark!percy time??). like book percy obviously was not happy all the time, but he seemed light and he made jokes and he was a little goofier and i feel like in my mind he smiled more. tv percy kinda just seems sad all the time. and this might be a controversial take, but i feel like they gave some of percy's best traits to annabeth?? like annabeth was the one beefing with ares the most when he showed up. and a lot of the time she'd have a line that seemed so percy like!!! don't get me wrong - i love annabeth and the actress did a really great job! but i feel like she was kinda percy and annabeth at the same time in a way. i missed percy. also hades was different. they made hades fun which is cute but in the first book at least hes supposed to be kinda scary!!! i wasn't scared of hades at all. hades seems like he'd be a fun drinking buddy in this. those aren't the vibes hades should have, at least not at the first meeting.
ok next!!! where is the fun. pjo was such a fun series and i feel like the show has taken on more of a darker outlook! again i realize its a tv show and it was only an 8 ep run so they probably had time constraints, but i miss the fun little scenes that make the books such a fun read! like the "say hello to the poodle" scene ? or the scene where they're telling charon they died in a bathtub? and don't even get me started on the Crusty's bed scene. they just breezed right through that!!!
and thats another thing!!!! in the book they kept figuring things out while they were in the thick of it. which was fine!!! especially for percy - hes brand new to all of this, he has some knowledge but he makes mistakes because he's a kid and he is in a brand new world! and we get to see him and annabeth and grover get out of these tricky situations and figure things out!!! but in the show they know everything basically instantly. like the lotus casino or crustys scheme. i like seeing them make mistakes and fix it!! i don't think i was ever stressed watching this show (good stressed, like suspense stress) which i guess is in part because ive read the books but also because they were never in too terrible a position. and the kronos thing!!! percy knew right away. he was like oh word big pit? must be kronos. he did everything. like that is way too quick for early percy.
and then this is just me being nitpicky but i don't like how they changed things. like the luke betrayal reveal? where was the scorpion. that was so iconic and they just completely scrapped it! i thought it made luke's character kinda scary! like this guy fully just summoned a scorpion to kill percy. instead in the show hes like swinging at percy and percy manages to hurt him. i'm not scared of this luke. young percy, away from the sea, manages to hurt him? little annabeth scares him off? he runs away? ok big man try showing up again we won't be scared. idk it frustrates me.
one more thing before i wrap up the longest (and only) post i've made in ages. Sally Jackson using Medusa's head to turn gabe to stone was SO iconic. and what a great way for her to show us and the world and the gods how powerful she is. like she went from being sally jackson, mother and protector of percy (who was already pretty sick) to Sally Jackson, Capable of Basically Murder in a Super Cool Way!!!!!! i loved that. but in the show they just have gabe snooping and accidentally getting turned to stone? if i had never read the books and was watching this show with no knowledge of the books, i'd think it was just kinda a lazy way to wrap up a loose end. kinda felt like they took sally's power away (i know she divorced him but it doesn't really have the same gravitas).
ok i do have other thoughts but this is so long already and its bedtime. is it weird that i'm worried the younger cast might come across this? they probably won't care what i have to say but incase they do come across my super long post and read it (i would if i was 15 and starred in a show with a built in fanbase), i hope they take it with the biggest grain of salt. bc at the end of the day people like the show, its profitable (i assume), and i'm just a cranky old lady who doesn't like change. most of the changes i understand why they did it and i respect it. i'm just venting here. and you know what? if they release a second season (and third and fourth and fifth) i will be watching.
i guess i just wish they maybe had more episodes, or longer episodes, so they didn't have to rush it as much as (i felt) they did. overall it made people happy so who cares. have a good night tumblr.

so i've just joined the pjo series discourse on sm (i've read all the books) so maybe people might have already said this but i feel like the monster fights are kinda underwhelming ?? the fights themselves but the atmosphere around them too. i'm just going to say it point by point to be clearer :
Mrs. Dodds: she's the first monster and threat of the show. i was waiting for something scary and surprising, that would have terrified percy or something. but instead the "reveal" was slow, and there wasn't even a fight, he just kind of opened the sword (even tho we don't even see him doing it) and she just. dies like that ?? it was really easy and i get that they can't just kill percy in the first ep but there wasn't even a bit of struggle or anything. tbh this first fight really dissapointed me. there was mystery that creates an intrigue but she just wasn't scary or a menace imo (EDIT : I HAVE NOW REREAD THE SCENE AND IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THE FIGHT PLAYS OUT IN THE BOOK (extract down below) so forget everything i said in this part, i'm sorry. )
Tumblr media
2. The minotaur : i liked this one much more than the first one, the car chase was thrilling and the atmosphere of the scene was really cool. i've only got one little thing to say about it, but i think it's just a me thing and i'm nitpicking (idk how to make gifs so i hope you can picture it in your head) :
when sally takes percy's jacket to lure the minotaur away from the boys and uses it as a red cape like in a corrida, i think it kinds of take the attention away from the fear of the monster in itself by being comedic. AGAIN i know i'm nitpicking here but why not say it.
(also i regret that the last scene was so far away from the camera and from the camp border. i know it's bc it's percy's pov but i loved percy's desperation in the movie (I KNOW IT'S BAD) when he's failing to save his mother and finally sees her (and her emotions) when she is gets taken away from him.)
3. Medusa : i LOVED what they tried to do with medusa and how they tried to make us sympathise with her. however, the fight was REALLY dissapointing to me. it kind of happened from nowhere. it's implied that it's annabeth plan but it really happened way too fast and did not give enought time for the viewer to appreciate the threat that medusa can be. it felt way to easy for them to beat MEDUSA. the fight lasted 5 seconds max and it felt shy in a way, like as if they didn't not want to fuck it up.
+ special mention : 4. Clarisse: I'M NOT SAYING SHE'S A MONSTER, I'M JUST PUTTING HER HERE BC TECHNICALLY SHE WAS A THREAT TO PERCY. i like dior's acting, idk anything about her outside of the show but i'm going to be honest : not knowing the cast at all, at first i immediately thought she was drew 😭. she IS a really pretty girl but for me she doesn't emanate clarisse's ares' daughter vibe. when her spear broke she was so GOOD, but appart from that she's just really chill i think ? like she's not menacing, she just kind of a mean girl bully (which clarisse is ig but she's not a menace enough imo) and tbh i think she's just not as "rough" as i think she could have been.
tldr : i think the fights were not scary enough and did not set a good tone for the series. they were also too easy and fast for them to be enjoyable.
of course i still enjoy this show a lot so i will be watching the next episodes and the rest of it so maybe there will be improvements. please yell what you guys think !!
it's the first time i ever talk so much on tumblr, so i hope it was readable. if there was any mistakes please tell me, english is not my first language.

PJO TV SERIES EP 3-4
THIS SERIES IS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER
first of all, I LOVE GROVER, I REALLY REALLY LOVE GROVER. When I read the book which maybe almost a decade ago, I like Grover but I don't remember really love him. This series makes me fall in love with him.
This episode makes me remember I kinda dislike Annabeth at first, I mean she was really bossy and a know-it-all at the first couple chapters of the book but she really growing on me, episode 4 really show that, I know why Rick chose her as Annabeth because she is Annabeth
I felt really bad for Medusa, I like how Rick characterized her in this series, and Jessica Parker Kennedy is really good, I kinda hope her scene was longer though
I FELT THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN PERCABETH SO HARD THIS EPISODES, their good
AND WTF THE 4TH EPISODE WAS ONLY 32 MINUTES??!?!?! I WAS HOOKEDDDD, I kinda regret watching it this week because of the cliffhanger
Walker really show us how confused and mad Percy is and his acting is AMAZING
This series have one of the best casting I think, and again I'll never stop saying this WE LOVE SALLY JACKSON
I'm excited for Ares next episode!!!!

i want to start reading percy jackson, but i know next to nothing about it except that he's like a demigod lol. you seem like the pjo mutual to have can you convince me to sit down and start reading again
OMG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS QUESTION!!!
(also I seem to have misplaced that ask you sent about Harry Potter, I'm so sorry 😭😭😭)
So. Percy Jackson.
Lemme sell this marvel to ya. Percy, my guy, he starts off being 12. This dude, is the mosttt sassy pov character I have ever read from, and also the only ever time I've enjoyed first person pov outside of maybe hunger games. He's smart, he's quick on his feet, he's really loyal and kind, and one of the most genuinely honest characters you'll ever read from. Also, he's just badass.
The rest of the cast is equally as amazing. Annabeth, smart as heck, prideful and set in her ways. Grover, the best friend, the one who sticks by you, resilient and passionate and unflinchingly loyal. The wider cast is great too, with their own flaws and traits and characters arcs. it's great stuff!
And that's not even talking about the Story. God. The story. Pjo itself is a five book series, after which there's heroes of Olympus, trials of Apollo, the pjo sixth book, various spinoffs and other series connecting together. The original series is about a twelve year old boy who gets a harsh introduction into a world with monsters and gods and forms great bonds and does incredible things and goes thru horrible things too. It's funny. It's relatable. And most importantly, it's a story for those who don't belong, who've always been on the fringe of things, who have never quite been normal, but were incredible and powerful anyway. It's been my comfort read and my companion for some of my darkest times. Maybe I'm just a tad bit biased, and maybe to someone starting the series, it reads like harry potter. Idk. That's what my brother told me. but I'll tell you right now, it's really a book series that stands on its own and it's amazing.
if you like books about mythology, books with great action, humor, adventure, and good representation, you'll love this book. If ya like themes like love, parent-child relationships, loyalty, the eternal conundrum of being ordinary, you'll absolutely adore this book.

Here's the thing, I've seen WAY TOO MUCH Leah hate in this fandom, but next to no one talking about Percy and Luke's casting.
I've been thinking about this for a long time but want to make this explicitly clear: IT'S NOT THE ACTORS FAULT FOR LANDING A JOB!
Everyone is up in a tissy about Annabeth being black, but no one seems to care that Percy is white. Now I'm aware that his race was never explicit in the text but Rick did mention in an interview that Percy has a "Mediterranean complection" a description so vauge it could mean anything from a slight tan to very melanin blessed. I think many of us in the PJO Fandom with some melanin were disappointed if not expecting the casting to fall as it is. It's not uncommon in Hollywood for casting directors to choose the conventional Blone haired blue-eyed white dude to be the main character of the story. It's what's expecting, and the primary projected audience for the show is going to be early teens white boys who want to see themselves as Percy.
Now, with Luke, my problem is the exact opposite. Being a white dude is intrinsic to his character arc (I'm only kinda joking about that) Luke Castellan, despite his rough child hood, was born and raised in Westport Coneticticut, a place where the population is over 92% white. To me, his character arc reminded me of the white men who thought they knew what was best for everyone. Taking the path of violents and anger to get his point across while others, often POC (see Charlie beckendorf, Ethan Nakamura, possibly Michael Yew) were caught in the crossfire of what he thought was the best course of action. Innuendo Studios on YouTube has a series called Alt Right Playbook, and in the episode titled "The cost of doing business," he explains how marginalized communities are offten the pawns in the game of white supremacy. For Luke, the pawns of this game are underage, often unclaimed, or children of minor god who feel they have no place at camp. Maybe his intentions were good, but ultimately, he didn't care about the demigods he was claiming to fight for as much as he hated the gods and wanted revenge. The thing that made Percy Jackson different was how he acknowledged the problems in the system and used his one shot to create institutional change.
I'm not saying that Walker and Charles can't tell the same story, but the message is certainly different, and it bugs me. Remember that Disney isn't your friend for bringing your childhood to life. It's a carefully crafted money-making scheme designed to appeal to the largest audience possible. Stop harassing the actors, especially Leah Jeffries, poor girl has been through too much. Dedicate that energy towards Disney and the fact that they're sending money to Israel to fund a genocide. The time is now to be a hero, fight some titans to get the gods to listen. Remember the moral of the story you hold so dearly and see that the God's are corrupt, but that doesn’t mean you're powerless against them. Percy Jackson didn't defeat Aries at 12 years old for you to feel powerless. You're strong, your voice is powerful, and you have the power to change the world. Have a nice day.

Subjects and Interests
My favourite subjects are Maths and Classical Civilisation but I enjoy most subjects. (Lessons can still suck tho bc dam some teachers can be boring)
I enjoy drawing, playing games, reading (books and fics), listening to music and watching youtube.
Video games
I have a few favourite games at the minute:
• Hades
• Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West
• Genshin Impact
Finished games I still love:
• Astro Bot (its a vr game abt a little robot)
• Spiderman PS4
• Spiderman PS5 Miles Morales
• Portal 1 and 2 ♡♡♡
I am also 100% a completionist so if I finish a game I probably have 100% on it.
Reading
My fav books are everything Rick Riordan but i plan to read some other stuff as well soon.
My fav characters from the main series are Nico, Leo, Frank and Lester/Apollo but I do love pretty much all of the main cast. I haven't read Magnus Chase or Kane Chronicles since I was a kid so I'm gonna reread those before deciding favourites but I think they were Alex and Carter. Also, in love with all of the side characters even if they are 90% hc.
My fav canon ships/friendships are
• solangelo (Will x Nico)
• percabeth (Percy x Annabeth)
• frazel (Frank x Hazel) (But I do hc that either Frank was younger or Hazel was older bc the age gap was a bit strange in canon, being 13 and 16. Its a bit inconsistent , as all ages are in PJO, but if time works normally Hazel should be 14 and therefore definitely older than Nico too but thats a topic for another time)
• shelper (or shipper as I like to call them) (Shel x Piper)
• Lost trio (platonic)
• PJO trio (platonic) (Grover my baby, why must they always forget you)
• Lester and Meg (I dont think i have to say this but platonic) (please say I don't have to say that. No one ships that right)
• Reyna and Thalia (platonic) (omg let aroace characters exist in peace) (no hate if u ship it but my gods)
Fanon ships/friendships
• Valgrace (Leo x Jason) (but aroace Leo is still amazing)
• Pollen (Apollo x Darren) (Is this entirely about Dear Reader by wrongcaitlyn? Yes. Do I care? Nope. Am I insanly invested in their relationship? Oh absolutely.)
• Nico and Leo (platonic) (This had no reason to not be canon and had every reason to be and I will never forgive Rick for this until he fixes it)
• Frank and Leo (platonic) (I swear every book they would fix their relationship and then as soonas the next one starts they would hate each other again)
• Nico and evey side character ever (platonic) (especially year round campers) (bc hes genuinely just a nice guy)
• Will and Clarrise (platonic) (this is kinda canon but all we really know is that he can calm her down)
Feel free to ask for fic recs if u want them.
Music
My fav music artist is 'Grandson'. (He writes rock/alternative/indie/rap (?) music often about political/social/personal issues.)
But I listen to tons of other kinds of music too from metal to pop to instrumentals by a ton of different artists:
• Måneskin (italian rock band)
• Polyphia (instumental, primarily guitar, math rock)
• Chappell Roan (yk who that is)
• Chase Atlantic (u have probably heard at least 1 of their songs, pop/alternative/indie/r&b)
• Dutch Melrose (alternative/indie/pop)
• Mother Mother (yk who that is right?)
• Eminem (right?)
• MSI (punk/alternative/rock)
And a whole lot more
I also play guitar (acoustic and electic).
TV
Loveeee Spiderman: Into and Across the spider verse.
My fav characters are Miles, Hobie, Pavitr, Spidernoir and Gwen but I love all of them.
Shows:
• Avatar the Last Airbender
• The Legend of Korra
• Batman: the animated series
• Voltron :)

Saw a recent ask of yours about percabeth was sidelined during BoO and totally agree. I've read all of WCWSTHWAS and I think you did a better job than rick at giving the new AND old characters their time to shine. What's your opinion on the new and old characters and their "screentime" through the series?
VERY interesting question - and thank you for the compliments! personally, i am struggling in my own fic to give every character their Moment. i think jason and piper got theirs, and hazel, leo, and frank will get theirs next chapter. i feel like percabeth's getting all the attention overall ahahaha, but i can't stop myself. i JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH-
hoo is an interesting series. it's very hard to balance a story like that because the way rick did it, he introduced a new cast of characters while keeping the older fan faves (percy & annabeth) still VERY pivotal to the main plot. with this structure, he had the hard task of keeping the new characters fresh and interesting, while also having to make sure that he doesn't do a complete disservice to percy and annabeth, who are already well-known and incredibly loved within the fandom.
it's HARD. i am struggling with it right now, and i have a lot of respect for rick for accomplishing it (partially). i know i criticize rick a lot, but he hit a perfect balance with the first three books of hoo. tlh gave us good stuff from jason, leo, and piper with the PERFECT sprinkling of percy mentions and annabeth acting as a support. the son of neptune gave us all the percy content we were missing + 2 new characters with GREAT origin stories. the mark of athena gave us annabeth. and percabeth. need i say more?
the next two books are FUCKED. rick tried to give hazel her moment, but she is completely overshadowed by percabeth in tartarus. frank gets magicked hot and loses me entirely. leo went from being my favorite new character to my least favorite with the addition of calypso. idk what piper does, and jason is just a vehicle to show off the new favorite - nico. and then rick adds in the nico reveal, which, okay?? i personally was never THAT invested in nico, and his coming out (which is incredible for the lgbtqia+ community, not denying that) came out of left field, didn't align with what we saw of him in pjo, and his coming out itself was forced. literally. which left me feeling...super off about it. if he was gonna come out, it should have at least been his choice.
my point is: the house of hades has SEVEN POVs, a HUGE step up from the usual three, which is...a choice. percabeth (and to some extent hazel) gets the spotlight. the lost hero trio doesn't really get too much screentime other than leo meeting calypso, so why did we get ALL OF THEIR povs? and then...nico is thrust into the spotlight?? why???? we already have 7 characters to focus on. why did we need another? a mess.
and then, in the blood of olympus, we get...five povs. jason, leo, and piper, and...reyna and nico?? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. i did not give ONE FUCK about the journey back to camp with the athena parthenos, and even if it was necessary, why did we need BOTH reyna and nico's povs? at the MOST we just needed one. i HATED leo's new lovestruck ramblings. and the characters that we had grown up with, percy and annabeth, were shafted on a whole new level. i don't remember frank and hazel getting much time to shine either. it's offensive. it's genuinely offensive.
with those last two books, rick completely shatters the balance he spent the first three books doing VERY well. with the last two books, i lose complete sight of who the fuck to care about within the new cast of characters, and so the only ones i DID end up caring about were the ones i cared about all along: percy and annabeth! and what happens to them? they are completely wasted in the final book. after tartarus, we needed one of their povs to know that they were okay, and we got none of that. yeah, NO.
i know i went the fuck off on this and i didn't mean to, i swear! it just gets me so angry, because rick just...was not making good choices towards the latter half of the series. his choice to include percy and annabeth in an important role in the new series was to keep the old audience hooked while still attracting a new one, and he completely botched it. if he was going to make them lynchpin characters, he should have given them the respect they deserve in the final book. if he wasn't going to use them, he should have just left them in supporting roles, the way he did in toa. you can't get both, and i think hoo proves that.
in the end, none of the characters got a satisfying ending (imo), other than maybe nico (LOL), and the audience isn't fuckin happy. or maybe they are, and i'm just an old bitter grandma in her rocking chair screaming about things long forgotten.
(a very late disclaimer: this is all just my opinion. you can disagree with me, and that's cool!)

Ok so I just watched episode 5 of the pjo show and honestly I might get dragged for this but I have some very real criticisms of it that I want to share. And if you enjoy the show that’s fine, I’m enjoying it to but at the same time I have a lot of issues with it and want to talk about it because I think being able to be real and critical of stuff that you like is important.
I think I’ll start with the pacing because that’s my biggest issue with it rn. It is moving so fast it feels like it’s just doing the spark notes version of the book. And ik we are all on the train of adaptations not having to be exactly like the book anymore, (which is literally just a thing that came about bc of this show and if it was any other show to book movie I think ppl would have a different tune but that is an entirely different conversation that maybe I’ll talk about later because I find it very interesting tbh), but the show is cutting out a lot of stuff that I feel was very important to the characters and in the books. I don’t know if this us because of the episode count or the episode length of if it’s the right, maybe it’s all three, but I feel like because the pacing is so fast the story is just breezing past a lot of emotional beats.
Which brings me to my next point. I have not felt a single thing watching any of these episodes. In fact I felt more about this show when I watching a single clip from episode 5 on TikTok than I did while watching the actual episode even at that clip. The show is so bad at building tension for literally anything. And I know everyone hates the movies and all that but the movies scene with Mrs Dodds had more tension and life than the scene did in the show. And I’ve heard people dispute “oh Percy has been seeing stuff all his life he probably thought that this was just that and didn’t realize it was real” but that has nothing to do with this. Why didn’t Mrs Dodds lead him away from all the other students? Why would she attack him in broad daylight when she’d aware that Chiron and a satyr are there? Or even if she didn’t know Chiron was there if she knew there was a demigod there she should’ve at least suspected the presence of a satyr.
The chimera fight was also very disappointing. Now I don’t remember exactly how this fight went in the books or in the movies but I don’t need to remember to know that this fight as equally tensionless and emotionless as the Mrs Dodds fight. And yah, they’re kids, it doesn’t need to be some epic battle or anything, but there should be tension. We should feel a least a little nervous even if we know what’s going to happen. Ngl. I don’t even know what to say about the Medusa fight bc I don’t even remember what happened. I don’t remember what happened in the books when it came to Medusa besides Percy cutting off her head and sending it to the gods. I’d definitely have to reread the books again before I comment on the change of theme surrounding Medusa and like half of the main theme of the series because Rick did some serious reconning with this stuff but unfortunately my books are lost somewhere in my basement.
I do think the Minotaur fight was fine really good though. The bond between Percy and his mom was built up really well and it was pretty devastating with that last scene between them. You could really feel the impact that Sally’s “death” had on him. However, it was so fucking dark it was hard to see half of what was happening and I’m gonna talk about that more later.
The next thing I want to talk about is the acting/casting. And before anyone says anything this has nothing to do with Annabeth being black or Percy not having black hair. Their characters feel flat and honestly I think that if it’s anyone’s fault it’s the directors and the script. I’ll use Walker as a reference because he’s the only one I’ve seen in anything else, in The Adam Project he was brilliant. Like there were multiple times where his performance alone had me in tears. That movie had me ugly sobbing at least three times and Walker was definitely part of the reason why.
In the pjo show he just feels… dull. And a tad bit lifeless which is baffling. How do you even make a character like Percy Jackson that, I’m sorry to say but, boring. Even the movies managed to give him more personality than the show, and I genuinely hate to say that but if I had to rank all the Percy’s show Percy is at the bottom which is so hard to say because Walker is perfect for this role but still he has more Percy Personality in that Kraft Mac and Cheese ad that he did with Ryan Reynolds. I do realize that part of this could be because we don’t have Percy’s inner monologue, sorta like what happened with Harry in Harry Potter, but there are ways to combat that like having a character be more expressive and stuff and that is also just not happening.
*(Also if anyone of curious my Percy Ranking goes 1: book Percy, 2: musical Percy, 3: movie Percy, 4: show Percy).
Speaking of expressiveness, Leah as Annabeth is also very disappointing because in her interviews she seems so Annabeth and I can see why Rick choose her but in the show all of her lines are delivered the exact same and the most emotion we get from her is a pinch of her eyebrows. And it’s a similar issue with Walker because he doesn’t emote that much either and neither does Aryan so I’m definitely thinking that it’s an issue with the directing instead of the actors. I don’t have much to say about Aryan. He’s ok, he has the same issues as the others of just not having a lot of emotion or very good dialogue/line delivery but again I don’t think that’s his fault and instead the direction of the show.
Listen I think they’re all incredible and the chemistry that they have in interviews is amazing. But the fact that I can see more of their characters in interviews than the actual show is insane, especially because it’s so obvious they all care about their characters and the world of Percy Jackson so much that I think if they were left on their own they could do this show perfectly but someone behind the scenes is stamping down their performances for the sake of the show taking itself too seriously.
Charlie and Dior were both great for the screen time they had. I mean not much to say about them tbh bc they didn’t have that much screen time but Dior’s scream after her spear was broken was literal gold. Adam Copeland as Ares was amazing and Lin Manuel Miranda as Hermes is quite possibly the worst thing that they could’ve ever done.
I know a lot of people were praising the change they made with Annabeth and Percy’s relationship and how that instead of disliking each other because of their parents they disliked each other because of bad personal impressions. But honestly I have to disagree. If I remember correctly Annabeth disliked him because he was son of Poseidon, and Percy disliked Annabeth because she was rude to him. And to me that made perfect sense because Annabeth was literally being indoctrinated by the gods/what they teach at camp for years/half her childhood why wouldn’t she hate Percy based solely on the fact her mom hates his dad? And I think that was actually kind of important as a character trait and I’m pretty bummed it was changed. (Ngl tho like I said earlier I haven’t read the books in a long time so I could be wrong about this, I’m just basing this off what other people have said about the beginning of their relationship in reference to the show and the books).
Also going back to what I said about the lighting ‼️SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 5 ‼️this really pissed me off because so many shows do this and it only started becoming a real problem in recent years. In episode 5 when Percy and Annabeth are entering the amusement park it is so goddamn dark I could not see what was happening. I have no idea what that machine over Percy’s head at the entrance was or looked like. I don’t know why it made him so scared because I could not see it. I could not see their faces as they were talking. I could literally barely see where they were when they panned out to show them walking through the amusement part and this makes no sense to me. You have this huge elaborate set that I would really like to see but it is so dark the only things I can make out is a ferris wheel and maybe a bumper car? I could not see shit, it was so annoying and so many new shows do this where the scenes at night are just so dark you cannot see anything. And I get that sometimes it’s intentional, you’re not supposed to see what’s going on, but this is not one of those scenes so why am I having such a hard time finding our main characters?
I really need to reread the books again and when I do I will add more to this probably or just remake the post. But so far I think the show is really mediocre and pretty disappointing, and I think it’s important to point this stuff out and not just heap piles of praise onto the show just because it’s written by the og writer of the book. We’re definitely going to get more seasons and I would like those seasons to be better than this one and actually let the actors shine and for the show to reflect what was so amazing about the books. Also, I just want to say that there are moments/stuff that I like about the show and as critical as I am of it it’s because I like the series, not because I’m just trying to be a hater. But seriously, I used to hate the movies with every fiber of my being but because of the show I have a new found appreciation for them, which I think that in and of itself says a lot about how the show has been so far.

ok im not super in the mood to rant and i gotta shower soon hut i love how uncle rick first made percy jackson for his students abd sons with adhd and dyslexia so thwy would have representation in the media (it was 2005) abd then gradually over the years made his books more and more diverse and listened to his fans about things. like the first series thwres very few poc and no explicitly queer characters. the next series theres a lot more, (4 of the main 7 are poc, and one canon queer character explicitly). idk when magnus chase (mcga) and kane chronicles (kc) are but both come after percy jackson and the olympians (pjo) and have also more diverse characters. (i havent read kc in a while but theres a lot of egyptian characters abd the main characters are biracial. and mc has a deaf character, hijabi character, genderfluid and pan chatacters being the main relationship, etc). abd then toa and the last two solo books continuing this trend of more diversity. and then when it came tome to cast the tv show, rick cast more diverse charactrrs and redid is og series. some people complained about annabeth being black now but its been almost 2 decades. a girl being overlooked because shes blonde is no longer an issue, but a girl being overlooked because shes black still is.
i just love how he includes all these, despite not being "perfect" representation and sometimes it's not great. but its amazing that hes including all this at all, especially since hes a major famous author partnered with disney. hes stayed with his mission of letting kids be able to see themselves in the stuff they read/watch. genuinely it hit me so hard when the first character came out in the books and then now almost 10 years later getting to see him be in a happy, healthy relationship. hes also giving queer and poc creators a voice. yhe book with said happy and healthy gay relationship was cowrittwn with a queer author (i think hes also not white but dont fact check me) plus his riordan presents which shows off smaller authors. like i know uncle rick isnt perfect but hes trying, and hes given me morw than most big authors and stuff have.
ok i didnt mean this to be so long shit uh hope you enjoyed bye bye
I DID!! that made me vv happy ty :3

The Percy Jackson series is amazing!
I loved the cast, they captured the characters extremely well! I was never really attached to how the OG PJO cast looked in the books, so as long as I could recognize them from personality or character I don’t care who they cast.
The story changes were also great! They really differentiate the story from the books in a good way. It really made me think about what was gonna happen next in a way that having an exact copy of the books wouldn’t have. It really made the series better!
I especially loved the added Grover scenes! It really makes him a more prominent character and he deserves his time to shine.
The dialogue was so fun too. I actually giggled at a lot of it, it was very natural to how 12 year olds would talk, I loved the dynamic between the Grover, Annabeth and Percy.
The settings were so good too! I ADORES Camp-Halfblood, the cabins, Medusa’s lair, etc.
Just. The series is everything I wanted from a PJO series. The only things I want more than more seasons are Magnus Chase and The Kane Chronicles movie trilogy’s , and a Magnus Chase x PJO crossover book

Hey, I saw you mentioned the Thalia casting for the pjo show. I’ve never seen anyone else on radblr mention pjo, so I was very excited to see I’m not the only one who likes it! I’m more of a crypto/lurker here, but I thought I’d say hi anyway!
I think they cast a great Thalia, and I’m excited to see what Tamara Smart will bring to the character, especially when they get to season three. Idk about you, but I think the casting thus far for most of the characters has been spot on, and specifically the main trio are phenomenal and perfect for their roles! But I think the writers made so many mistakes with things they changed in season one, so I’m not super optimistic I’ll be thrilled with any plot changes they make to season two.
Sorry if this is a bit awkward, but I just wanted to say hi and get your thoughts about the show and pjo in general, because I’ve never seen anyone else in this corner of tumblr mention it before :)
The casting for the show is hands down the best part of it, every character nails their roles. In particular, me and my best friend agreed Grover (Aryan) was actually the standout of the main trio so far. So excited to see how Tamara portrays Thalia next especially, since shes so important. Absolutely fantastic performances all around tho! I think about Clarisse in episode two when she screams after Percy breaks her lance all the time, it was soooo freaking chilling, just small things that show the entire cast is making up for any weaknesses the writing had in season one lol. There were def things they changed or left out that weren't my fav, but still held enough spirit of pjo for me to relax and hold out hope for future seasons. I believe I read that the writers took note of the season one critiques, so fingers crossed some of the pacing is fixed and hopefully (major hope) more episodes or longer episode lengths for the next season pleasssseeeee that would fix most of the issues people had!
But I won't lie the show adding some new scenes was super fun and fresh of them, like the chair in the tunnel of love where Walker and Leah acted their butts off and had me and my best friend in complete shock as we watched. Or the scenes w Ares and Grover! That was so freaking fun and a cool way to develop Grovers char more. So I do like the changes the writers have made, but sometimes their lack of inclusion of stuff is where it gets tricky and upsetting for future plot points.
I've been a pjo fan since it was the book series that actually made me fall in love w reading as a kid. Fun fact, i borrowed my friends sea of monsters book while he read the lightning thief, and I loved it so much that i devoured the next four books, and ended up reading the lightning thief last! its just that good of a series lol, so fun and engaging especially as a young kid diving into the world. so its super nostalgic for me, but admittedly my bestie is the one who remembers the books far better than me. she'd be like oh this is that monster or oh they left this out and i was like what 💀?? oh right! i gotta do a speed reread or something lmao, but im glad the show was well received and hopefully inspires more kids to pick up the books and enjoy reading.
I read all the classic YA books as a kid so truly I have an opinion on mostly all of them except a select few, but I also read these things in like middle school so they're not as fresh in my mind so if you want more specific opinions you can ask lol, but hopefully this was an enjoyable ramble

Okay, but I was watching the Making of PJO special, and one guy called it "Percy Jackson season one" and now I'm almost certain they're going to adapt the other books.
Also I can't not mention the five seconds of Star Wars props in the background. I see you, Grogu, Chewbacca, and Boba. Don't think I don't.
Walker, Aryan, and Leah really do have amazing chemistry though. And Walker's chemistry with Charlie.
They really put so much into this series, and it shows. There's something about watching the BTS, watching it happen that makes it feel so nostalgic both toward my childhood and the books themselves.
"She can really scream." 😂 Walker is Percy Jackson.
This is the best thing about watching BTS footage. Watching the cast bond, watching them become a family, watching them teach each other and lift them up to their full potential. I miss when BTS releases used to be more common. I'm very glad that this show got theirs released.
Walker is actually very inspirational though. He's so talented, and so invested in his work- I can only imagine how his career will develop. He deserves the attention he's getting.
I will never not say how much I love that Cerberus is a Rottweiler. All the the creatures are amazing in this show, but as someone who's owned a Rottie-Lab mix, there's something so personal about Cerberus.
Something, something, the producers hiring teachers to continue Aryan, Walker, and Leah's schooling while they create this. And the way they remain so positive throughout juggling both.
Bear McCreary is underrated.
I knew the casino gave me mall vibes. Good use of something that was never completed, though, and I like that it's not being wasted.
There's also something really awesome about the younger cast interviewing the actors of the Gods.
Coming back to my first note, Walker just said "next season." They are totally doing all the books, right? Right?? 🥺
Also, Walker's dad deserves a shout-out for being so supportive. It's so wholesome.
