HORS-SÉRIE #40 - DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW S01 (2016) Spin-off de l’Arrowverse regroupant des protagonistes “secondaires” mais essentiels, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW prend le pari risqué d’accorder une chance à ces personnages, qui ne bénéficient pas de la même fan-base que les têtes d’affiches des autres séries phares de chez DC: là où certains n’y verront qu’une manœuvre commerciale pour avoir droit à un tv-show à la THE AVENGERS (2011), cette première saison se démarque du lot. En premier lieu, le lien scénaristique, tenu par le personnage de Rip Hunter, Maître du Temps déchu venant recruter des héros pour embarquer sur le Waverider, vaisseau spatio-temporel qui permettre à l’équipe de voyager... dans le temps: la menace répondant au nom de Vandal Savage -un bad-guy acharné-a en effet pris les vies de la famille de Hunter, et l’avenir de la planète est compromis de par ses actes cruels. Afin d’éviter que notre futur soit soumis à l’esclavagisme de Savage, les LEGENDS OF TOMORROW font office de véritables Bob Morane télévisuels: nous naviguons de la seconde guerre mondiale au futur dévasté, en passant par l’espace et autres périodes historiques, en espérant que la team de “bras cassés” aux fortes personnalités pourra enfin intercepter l’antagoniste, lui aussi se baladant avant et après J-C à sa guise. Une dimension de roman d’exploration/aventure domine une narration soignée, qui fait la part belle à l’action, à l’humour, aux twists, et cette continue variation d’environnement -la magie d’une timeline accessible à tout moment choisi-, où les personnages bénéficient d’un bon développement: aussi grand et varié que son échelle d’action, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW est le porte-drapeau d’un style décontracté et assumé qu’on avait oublié depuis longtemps. DC étant propice à la science-fiction, comment ne pas bouder cette série diablement divertissante, qui non seulement relève la stature autrefois “de seconde zone” de ses héros au caractère bien trempé, et qui en plus parvient à s’incruster dans l’énorme background du Arrowverse sans le faire foirer? D’ailleurs, on appréciera les caméos de visages biens connus, ainsi que les alternatives temporelles qui nous permettent de les voir sous un autre angle: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW est clairement le “comics télévisuel” le plus réussi à ce jour par la firme de Batman, bénéficiant d’un fan-service sincère et d’un soin tout particulier. Après ROGUE ONE (2016) et SOLO (2018), LEGENDS OF TOMORROW est une preuve supplémentaire de la valeur que peut apporter un spin-off bien réalisé dans une saga déjà en place: bien sûr, il faudra avoir ingéré chronologiquement l’Arrowverse pour l’update-compréhension du scénario de ce tv-show, remède à l’ennui par excellence. NON MAIS QUEL SAVAGE CELUI-LA /20

Danish actor Casper Crump will be joining the likes of Jamie Bamber (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), Miriam Margoyles and Josh Herdman (HARRY POTTER), David Yost and Walter Jones (POWER RANGERS), as well as DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW co-star Arthur Darvill in Nottingham this April as he takes to the stage at EM-CON 2017 at the Motorpoint Arena.

Casper, who casts an imposing shadow as Vandal Savage – the full-on baddie of the first season of the series – will be switching from snarl to smiles as he meets and greets with fans at both signing tables and photo opportunities, slots for which are available on the EM-Con website.

The actor will also be appearing on panels, giving him the chance to talk about his other notable work, including his roles as Rune in ALMOST PERFECT, Enzo in HELIUM, and Captain Kerchover in Warner Bros.’ THE LEGEND OF TARZAN.

The LEGENDS OF TOMORROW pairing of Crump and Darvill is just one of the fandom groupings that the convention has got lined up:

fans of the MIGHTY MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS original series will have the chance to get up close and personal with Blue Ranger ‘Billy Cranston’, David Yost, and Black Ranger ‘Zack Taylor’, Walter Jones;

fan favourites Miriam Margoyles and Josh Herdman represent the HARRY POTTER franchise;

…while RED DWARF smegheads get the thrilling three-way that is Danny John-Jules (Cat), Chris Barrie (Rimmer) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten), along with co-creator of the series Doug Naylor.

This also just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the incredible line-up of talent that is up for grabs at this show, which we are big fans of, here at AEISD – RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK / HOT FUZZ star Paul Freeman is a particular draw for Yours Truly, and you really can’t beat a bit of THE 100‘s Luisa D’Oliverira if the opportunity arises!

EM-CON will be running on the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April 2017 at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, with tickets selling quickly – make sure you pick yours up sooner rather than later. General Tickets are priced at £5 each, with Under 8’s able to get in for free, but you can buy Silver, Gold and Platinum Passes which add early entrance times and fast-track for autographs / photographs to  really enhance your experience of the show.

ENTRY TIMES ARE EITHER 10AM OR 11AM (9:45am for Platinum pass holders). Close is 5:30pm – Nobody will be allowed entry after 4:30pm
