can't even begin to describe how insane i am about the "keep bringing me pencils line" because it might as well just be a full on love confession and proposal all in one. like it's saying im letting you in please continue staying by my side please keep helping me in the ways you know how keep handing me what i need to figure it all out im reassuring i need you and yet she doesn't need to say all this because they both already know!!! it just takes a pencil to figure out!! im going insane!!!!!

hi again. i found this rambling of Caspar and Ava's relationship in my drafts. I probably wrote this around the release of Chapter 35/36 sooo this might feel a little outdated but i wanted to share it anyways 😭!

omfg the acknowledgement of caspar and ava's relationship !!! and caspar equating it to orpheus and eurydice is so sad actually

I am so in love with the complexity of their relationship and how it has evolved over the course of the story. Like, what do you mean he tossed her into space to bringing her club sandwiches and having a whole routine for when she gets into the zone, just resharpening her pencils and pouring her coffee hello??? What's also great about them is the clear effect they've had on each other as a person. Thinking about it now, Caspar tossing Ava into space is one of the catalysts for his change. I mention this because they presented another distinction of Caspar's growth during the conversation he had with David in the latest episode (which i loved by the way)

How different things would've gone if Caspar had not done that. (and. of course. along with Gloria knocking the radio over and Ava messing with it heh) Would they still have talked it out? Would he have ever acknowledged something more than his fixation for opening at six with the fragile hope of seeing his son again, driven by the guilt of losing him??? This is all supported by the "I didn't mean to surround myself with people I care about" conversation (which i made an animatic out of if you're interested) Don't even get me started on Ava. That's a whole other can of worms.

It's all just really neat to witness.

ava really is the most character ever because slowly letting go of the ‘i’m a genius, leif build good, gloria good leader cook, and then there’s you’ thing actually requires her to rewire her brain. for ava to accept that caspar belongs at the diner despite Not Excelling At A Specific Role is for her to accept that SHE would still be welcome even if she wasn’t able to figure everything out all the time. which is like—sorry!—totally antithetical to how she has operated for uhhhh her entire life. and that SUCKS. and she’s doing it ANYWAY. because he brings her club sandwiches and the greatest repositories of potential energy in the universe. whatever i don’t even care about them i’m normal

Thinking about the midnight burger crew in an ikea don’t ask me why

- The Mucklewains are in the PA system speaking and playing music

- Caspar and Ava are making up different personas and stories for each fake room/apartment

- Gloria is stocking up on new kitchen and cleaning supplies (lord knows she needs a new grill brush)

- Leif is taking things apart for spare parts and decides he wants to line the roof with led light strips

- Fiona and David (who are the reason they’re there because with this many people in the diner they need more beds and storage) are in the children’s section climbing on the bunk beds that say do not climb and are pushing each other into the bins of stuffed animals
